This will be my master post, I guess :D Hello! I am the creator of Gale Guides and I want to spread my unhinged nerding about Gale on Tumblr too. Because why not. Maybe someone will find it helpful. ever since the annoucement that gale's canon age will be revealed soon-ish, i'm now very attached to my gale is at least one century old headcanon and he just never corrected anyone in their assumption that he's only around ~40yo bc a) it never came up and b) it honestly didn't occur to him to mention it.

1300yo elminster still calls him m'boy.

and, most importantly, he's still tara's little love.

Such a simple word.

To him, it means the world. It’s his life’s work, his greatest achievement, the backbone of who he is — who he was.

That man does not exist anymore. Gale of Waterdeep. Vanished into thin air, like dust in the wind. The way the rest of him — his body, his soul, his essence — would have fallen into oblivion, if only he had obeyed his goddess’s command. If only.

But he didn’t — he wouldn’t, he couldn’t — and now he no longer knows who he is. He looks in the mirror, the reflection staring back practically unaltered. Just one more line on his face, one more streak of silver in his hair — still handsome, still himself.

And yet, decidedly other — different, changed.

Traces of his former self remain, smouldering under the ashes: his passion, his devotion, his ambition. But how to channel them? All that he ever was, he achieved because of Mystra. For Mystra. What is he without her?

He looks at the person sleeping next to him, how their chest rises and falls in their peaceful slumber, how their beautiful face is touched by the shadow of a smile.

Is it him they are dreaming of? Did he put that smile there? He cannot know for sure, not until morning. But what he does know is the depth of his love for them — a love that makes him question everything he has ever known. A love that has brought him back from the brink of the abyss. A love that dares him to hope of a thousand more days to come.

He feels it in chest — in the space where the orb ravaged him, where only a few weeks ago there was nothing but pain, hunger and nothingness — the life-affirming knowledge of being seen, of being wanted, of being loved and accepted exactly for who he is.

Chosen.
