Galadriel: I see Sauron at night while I'm in bed

As I rewatched episode 8 the other day and the scene where Estrid tells Isildur that her bethroded started building a house for them, that until then she believed his kindness was love and that she felt sick when she realized that the man she loves now is standing before her, I couldn't help but think of Galadriel, Sauron and Celeborn. And I think it was wanted, because Estrid and Isildur's romance totally mirrors Galadriel and Sauron's.

We know how Galadriel felt about Halbrand/Sauron, and it's not platonic friendship. Even before we knew that Halbrand was Sauron, Morfydd Clark said that this man had changed her forever; that's just not something one says about a friend, at least not when referring to a scene that has very heavy romantic connotations (the Haladriel scene in the woods). Galadriel is just as much in love with Saurbrand as Estrid is with Isildur.

The one time that Galadriel mentions Celeborn, she describes their meeting as happening in a time of innocence ("We met in a glade of flowers. I was dancing and he saw me there.", "war was so far away then "). Celeborn was most probably Galadriel's first lover, and she was his. What she felt for him was certainly different than what she would later feel for Saurbrand. Don't get me wrong : I'm not saying at all that Galadriel didn't love Celeborn (I don't want this post to feed a ship war, to be clear), only that this love was certainly different, like.. Purer ? Because she was pure herself then, and so was Celeborn. When she meets Saurbrand, she has lost her innocence a long time ago and is not the same she-Elf who fell in love with Celeborn in a glade of flowers. This she-Elf would have probably not fallen for Halbrand, wouldn't even have considered him as more than a low-man who didn't deserve her attention.

Hearing Estrid say she felt sick when Hagen asked the gods to bless their love, made me wonder how Galadriel will feel when she and Celeborn build Lothlorien together, or how Sauron will feel when he builds his fortress of Barad-Dur, where he will find himself all alone.

I also wonder if Estrid will become Isildur's wife in the future (it's possible since said wife is left nameless in LOTR), or if he meets someone else while she stays with Hagen, both being haunted all their lives with what could have been...

it's so funny how the people who constantly whine about the creative choices in a story are often out of touch with the said story.

bc why bring up celeborn in a conversation about galadriel x sauron and why they shouldn't be together when finrod is right there and the actual conflict in galadriel's storyline is that she has feelings for the man who killed her beloved brother?

like, why was galadriel obsessed with killing sauron? whom was she avenging? FINROD! she never brought up celeborn when talking about her destiny to kill sauron. it was always about finrod!

during their fights, finrod's dagger is always either brought up (the fireplace scene) or between the two (the finale raft scene).

the actual and the only third between galadriel and sauron is finrod!

s1 begins with finrod warning galadriel about the temptations of the darkness, in s1 finale sauron takes on finrod's form to persuade her to be on his side, even in s2 we see galadriel thinking about finrod and then having sauron call her in her mind!

these two are the most important individuals in galadriel's life!

it is about galadriel's love for her brother vs. her feelings for halbrand.

Oh my god... why am I coming across this bullshit ?! No, Galadriel is definitely not done with Sauron after the season 2 finale ! She is in no way free in spirit and mind ! Damn, Sauron forcibly bound her to him by blood ! Are you being stupid on purpose ?! And of course... Mister Celeborn would be the key to Galadriel's happiness. The man from whom even in Tolkien's texts she spends a lot of time apart and who is not more important than that in the arc of our lady of light. I swear this kind of shit annoys me.

I was tagged in a first-lines-of-fic meme by @eisoj5​!  I’m pretty sure I’ve done this before (can’t remember my tag), but it’s been a long time!

Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway!

My first lines under the cut!  I’m partial to #9 for some Current Project reasons.

1. late night arrival - May 2019, Rogue One, 1k, complete

Their transport arrives late back on base, late enough that Jyn isn’t surprised there’s no one waiting to meet her in the hangar. Melshi nudges her when he catches her looking around out of habit and tells her Cassian probably got told to stop hovering around like a grim-faced shadow, which earns him a solid punch in the arm. She pulls it, but Melshi makes a show of wincing and shoving her away with a huff of laughter.

2. guilt goes away if you let it -  January 2020, Rogue One Black Sails AU, 500+, the start of a Ficlet Collection because I don’t write long fics but I do have ideas that take up residence in my brain

The letters feel hot beneath his coat, even through his shirt, the inner pocket fabric, and the protective leather keeping Galen’s words safe from the water.

3. it was inevitable - January 2020, Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, 200+ ficlet in a collection so technically complete

Finn wakes up after Starkiller and knows what he has to do.

4. before the fords - May 2020, Rogue One LotR Grey Company AU, 400+ ficlet in a collection… who knows if I’ll write a full separate AU fic, but I do love the idea!

The night was dark and cold, the full moon shrouded by clouds, but the Company rode together and rode hard as they had through the many leagues from the Angle onward to… wherever they were now, Jyn thought, exhaustion weighing her down in her saddle.  They had thought Halbarad would have called for a rest a ways back, but Chirrut had urged Baze to bring the two of them up beside their Chieftain’s Second so that he could pass on news up ahead.

5. first flush of hope to carry the grey away - May 2020, Rogue One, 1k, complete

It goes bad fast, the way it sometimes does in a city ready to blow, a match flicked on a trail of fuel and sparking the firefight.  Cassian dodges the first punch aimed for his face, but takes a hit from a glass someone throws at his back, and chaos descends where there could have been something else—not clean, nothing is clean in this grimy cantina full of shadows and sharp teeth and knives—that’s a knife in that informant’s hand, the blade catching the light as it arches toward Cassian and slices into his side.

6. far from a hearth-fire - November 2020, Brothers of the Wild North Sea which is a slash romance novel that I devoured, saw there was no fic for, and then decided I needed to fix that!!! 2k, complete

The dream came to him again, the one of the warrior in the storm. Fenrir stumbled out of the angry Sea, his arms reaching for the man beside him, dragging him onto the shore. Rán’s fury howled in waves crashing onto rocks, but Fenrir knew in the drumbeat of his heart that the man clutching him back, shuddering with cold and yet warm with life—that man was his to steal from her, his to hold.

7. the far away shore - November 2020, Brothers of the Wild North Sea, 2k, complete

“So,” Tekla said, setting a heavy tankard of ale down next to Fenrir and then thunking down onto the dock beside him. “Who is he?”

8. I took a break from writing fic through basically all of 2021, but that was because a ton of my creative energy was going to my Akallabêth TTRPG Campaign.  Anyway, I’m going to cheat a little and do a quote from the first scene of Session #7 (out of 35 and counting!) from May 2021 which was when I think things really began to click in for my players.  I have all these titles and headers for my notes / recaps and this section was called “Sails & Sea-Monsters”.  The whole session overall was called “The Whale & the Corsair”.  I write little bits of prose to set up a scene, so here are the first two sentences:

Morning arrives with the rolling of fog along the Sea, a hazy cloud blanketing the ship.  It’s gloomy and oppressive, heavy veils shifting through the sails, the wind lifting the canvas but failing to bring more than a vague glow of sunlight.

9. fell in love with the fire long ago - last updated December 2022, Silmarillion / Rings of Power Uncorrupted Mairon AU, 11k (!), my current project and WIP that I am calling a ficlet collection so that I don’t scare myself out of writing a long fic

Mairon goes when the storms subside, when Ulmo sends word to the other Valar that he and Uinen have brought Ossë back. He doesn’t tell Aulë why he leaves the Forge early, but some measuring glow in the Smith’s golden eyes tells Mairon he knows Mairon's mind. He sees the dark corners of his heart.

10. grant a name to a buried flame - February 2023, Silmarillion / Rings of Power Uncorrupted Mairon AU, 3k, complete

“Well, I can’t fault your taste,” Mablung says, swiping the flask of wine from Celeborn’s hands and taking a healthy pull. Celeborn scowls half because he’d been saving that, damn it, and half because he knows Mablung doesn’t mean his taste in wine.

Word of warning we just got a ton of possible leaks about season 2 of "Rings of Power" coming from The One Ring Net source. However, I will point out while a few of these seem possible this reminds me a lot of other "leaked" things for my other fandoms, especially DC and Marvel movies/shows, and most of those turned out to be false and fans just posting things for their own enjoyment. However, this is how it first leaked that Halbrand was Sauron before season 1 aired. Some of these do match scoops/spoilers we've gotten from Fellowship of Fans an interviews with the cast, but some of these are so out of left field. I'll post a breakdown under a cut of the major ones but you can see the post in full here. But I will point out some of these would be massive changes to the lore that even I'd be shocked if they do it, so again we'll see.

So the first thing that matches what FOF and even Charlie Vickers teased is that season 2 is going to show a lot of Sauron flashbacks and tell his side of the story and that we'll be in on his plans the whole time. But according to this post the Mairon version is a separate actor and that Gavi is actually the Annatar version but Halbrand/Charlie is still the main one going forward.

They're saying the Tolkien estate gave Amazon more access to "The Silmarillion" and we will see all the Valar, Maiar, Eru (he's just a voice though so we won't see a person), Melkor/Morgoth, Mairon (even called this name), Gandalf/Mithrander (who is Daniel's The Stranger), and even Ungoliant as we get this full backstory in the show.

Halbrand will go back to the dwarves and reveal he's Mairon to them and they truth him because of Aule.

It'll be revealed that Sauron/Mairon had a son and Adar killed him, which was why the line Adar said about "a woman or a child" was said in s1. No idea who the boy's mother is but possibly Amelia Kenworthy's character. This is a huge departure but would be interesting to have Sauron/Mairon/Halbrand actually have been a father and the 2nd Maiar besides Melian to have children.

Gandalf/Mithrander will also have flashbacks, including that he almost sided with Mairon, and even introduce Shadowfax.

Tom Bombadil and Goldberry will appear, which we already saw a leak about this possibly happening last year.

Supposedly Halbrand/Sauron does keep up his infatuation with Galadriel but actually goes back to Eregion not as just Annatar but as Celeborn!!! 😮 So they don't rescue Celeborn after all but it is Sauron/Halbrand and it's making it sound like there's romantic scenes between them but again it's actually Sauron/Halbrand with Galadriel and not Celeborn. I know some of us Haladriel shippers have written this exact thing in our fics and if this really does happen that again hints that Sauron/Halbrand really could be Celebrian's biological father which I would be shocked if the show did this even though I'd also love it. LOL Then add in if they do this change where Sauron had a son that died and possibly ends up having a daughter with Galadriel. It does sound like the real Celeborn does come back too at some point so if this happens this is going to be interesting, even though I know a lot of the purists and regular LOTR fans might hate it.

The season does end with Sauron forging the One Ring, which FOF has also been speculating. The thing is if Galadriel will be with him when he does as FOF reported on her being captured by Adar during the Battle of Eregion with this also confirms happens in the last 2 episodes.

They're also saying too that the season will also end with Galadriel making a choice to save either real Celeborn and/or Sauron/Halbrand as Celeborn, which again could point to above that she gets captured and then decides to stay with him. So this is going to be very interesting if any of these turn out to be true.

Yo what are we going to do when Celeborn rolls up next season? Accept that our girl Gal is going to be married to that piece of wet toast for eternity after 2 seasons of FIREWORKS with Hot Sauron? Not to mention her best friend is low-key in love with her and I would DIE for that elf and his hair and if anything hurts him I'm going to throw myself off a cliff.

(edit to add that I have read the books so I do know that book Celeborn is more exciting than movie Celeborn, I'm just dubious about how they're going to build a convincing love story for them, if that is the plan. Hence why I feel like he could end up feeling like wet toast compared to Hot Sauron. Okay bye)

I was today year old when I learned that apparently, there was a popular theory circulating that Sauron had actually eaten Celeborn, based on him eating clams in this scene...

And I thought I was nuts to see only a hint that Sauron wanted to "eat" the memory of Celeborn... Him actually eating him is another level of conspiracy theory lmao

But no, I don't think it's meant to be taken literally. He may have never even crossed Celeborn's path, not personally at least...

One thing's sure, anyway, is that it wasn't random. We see Sauron eat only one time during the entire show, and it's in this scene. In this scene, Tamar asks him is he's close to the she-Elf, to which he reacts with a face that says "oh yeah, man...". He also jokes about stealing "their women" lol I mean...

i'm going to be completely honest with ya'll.

i don't hate elrond x galadriel kiss. why? bc aint nobody shipping these two for real. the show can have this arrange pair up while we can ship sauron x galadriel with no shame and stop making excuses for ourselves to the lorebros.

also, this probably means that they won't bring in celeborn, or will but in late s4 at the earliest. galadriel is married to celeborn so he can be used against haladriels better. but elrond x galadriel will be ambiguous at most.

it actually gives me some hope that they will experiment with these dynamics more freely, and maybe after seeing how popular haladriel is, tap into it more boldly.
