FOR: @gabyharrisonx WHEN: August 24' WHERE: Pick-A-Part. Int. Reception.
Andrés was stood at the front desk, a place he should've never been allowed. Whose genius idea was it to get sick over the weekend? Albeit, the damage that had wrecked what should've been a lovely weekend had caused some nasty coughs. Damn fuckin' sand. Knocking over a pot of pens, as a few choice curse words fell from moving lips, he was reaching for the bull point, the noise level increasing, a constant hum of cars being trashed, and crushed, taken apart bit by bit (It was in the name, honestly) but it was loud. However, the jingle of the front doorbell had his head snapping up. Great, fuck, perfect.
Customers.
"Good mornin', ma'am, welcome to pick-a-part."

I think the only one I like out of those Secrets is Ivan singing heavy metal lullabies to his little sister.
Ya know what I have the list pulled up so I can go over them and give my opinions real quick!
1.) "When Alix was a child, she was given a rabbit as a gift... from her future self!" - Kinda cute. Hope she at least like, warned her dad somehow because dropping a pet on a child is a bad time.
2.) "Juleka's song: "Even if nothing is decided, nothing as solid as stone, everything can burn up and then we are alone... So love life, eternity."" - this is just the lyrics to what she sang as a record in Migration. On brand for her though.
3.) "Nino's headphones were given to him by his favorite DJ after a concert. That's why he always carries them with him!" - that's cute!!
4.) "Nathaniel naturally has chestnut brown hair. His hair is dyed by Alix." - Brunette!Nath is cursed so this isn't canon to me but it's a fun tidbit in theory!
5.) "Ivan sings heavy metal lullabies to his little sister. And she seems to like them a lot." - Adorable!!! I'm debating on yeeting into HC/LL because I always planned on him being an only child.
6.) "Sabrina's best friend before Chloé was Cléo." - Naur Cléo!!! No seriously whomst the FUCK-
7.) "André sells his ice cream at locations where famous French films were shot." - Fair enough. It works in the sense of always being able to find him.
8.) "Miss Bustier was once a student of Mr. Damoclès and once pinned a fish on his back as an April Fool's joke!" - This one's cute I love it! This one should come with an anecdote for the foreign audience that the French have a fish-themed April Fool's Day and this is a common prank for children. Doesn't make it less fun!
9.) This one was a 'sketch from Marinette' rather than a fact, and was an image of a dress. It's a pretty basic but cute dress.
10.) "Sass's favorite food is a tofu" - why??? Why is the Snake's tofu?? What happened to the fridge magnets with the gummy worm snack? Granted that didn't make the most sense either but the consistency.
11.) "Marinette wears her 2 pigtails in memory of a very good friend from school who is sadly no longer at her school." - In theory this is cute but I hate nearly everything about Socqueline's existence.
12.) "Adrien's full name is Adrien Émile Gabriel Donatien Athanase Agreste." - the absolute fucking EGO from his parents to have two of his middle names be their names.
13.) "Since Plagg adores cheese, especially Camembert, Adrien had to convince Nathalie that he is obsessed with Camembert." - Absolute fucking hilarious.
14.) "Gabriel's real name is Gabi Grassette" - I actually hate this. I hate this so much. Like it's inconsequential in the long run and it makes sense but GOD I hate it for some reason.
15.) "Kim actually has two surnames namely "Ature" and "Lê Chiến", then after their marriage both of his fathers each kept their surname." - this would be cuter if I didn't know it was a retcon of a retcon. It was originally "Lê Chiến", then they changed it to "Ature", and then they got backlash for it. But hey two dads now if only htey'll show up on screen! (this may end up in HC/LL? Debating).
16.) "What if Lila's biggest lie so far was that her name wasn't Lila?" - so on principal I hate this whole superspy con artist plot, but this is fucking hilarious.
17.) "The real name of The Gorilla is Placide I.T." - I think I already dunked on this enough.
18.) "Alya has received various Chinese treatments from Master Fu. So, he almost chose Alya over Marinette... to be Ladybug!" - I hate this one actually. Like not that I don't like LB!Alya! But she's new to Paris but has somehow received various treatments from Fu? Yet on the other hand Fu knew her very well and could've easily mentored her, but he decided to go out and choose some rando???? the fuck???
19.) "As a child, Marinette dreamed of tailoring a hat for the Eiffel Tower to protect it from snow. And from then on, all she wanted to do was be a fashion designer!" - That's really cute I love it so much!!!
20.) "Zoé's best friend in the New York City was Jessica Keynes." - I hate this. I hate this so much. This makes Jess look like such a shitty friend.
21.) "Kagami has drawn a manga about her childhood in Japan but she hasn't dared to publish it yet." - Adorable, actually!
22.) "Rose and Prince Ali stayed in touch after they first met and have become really good friends." - We knew ofc but it's glad to have it confirmed!

Ronan Odeja OC Headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ronan Odeja
Age: 40s
Ronan is the father of Michael, Noelle, and Anais Odeja.
He has been happily married to Alyssa Odeja for over 20 years.
Ronan is a photographer who owns his own photography studio. He is well known in his profession for taking pictures that reflect "absolute perfection" by revealing the truth behind each photograph.
In other words, Ronan has a talent for telling whether a picture reflects genuine emotion or fake.
He has spent his lifetime taking pictures of perfect happy families. Ironic given that his own family is nowhere near happy.
Ronan does photography work for Gabriel from time to time. He's taken every family portrait of the Agreste family since Adrian was born.
Ronan is a kinder, more loving parent who loves all his children unconditionally.
Unlike his daughter, Noelle, who has no problem with blood and gore, Ronan cannot even endure talking about such graphic details let alone the sight without becoming nauseated. He still tries to support his daughter's interests by asking her about them even if he ends up feeling sick to his stomach.
Has an amazing singing voice. He always sang lullabies to his children when they were younger and still sings to them whenever they are sad or having night terrors.
A combination of stimuli such as flashing lights and loud noises causes Ronan to have panic attacks.
Ronan is old friends with Gabriel Agreste (Gabi Grassette), André Bourgeois (Anaximandre Bourgeois), Harry Clown, and Emilie Agreste.
During his freshman year at university, he met Alyssa at a party, and they both had a drunken hook-up, which resulted in Alyssa getting pregnant with Michael.
Not wanting to abandon his child, Ronan thought that the "honorable" or "right" thing to do was to marry Alyssa, a decision that his friends were strongly against (they had only met her once at that point and they could already tell she was a huge bitch).
They tried to convince him to not go through with it and to think about if marrying Alyssa was what he truly wanted. Gabriel, of all people, even made a big speech about how Ronan should marry for love and not out of obligation.
Despite Gabriel's speech speaking volumes, Ronan had already made up his mind to go through with it, even if he would end up regretting his decision for the rest of his life, he wanted to give his child a chance at a normal childhood.
Despite being in a loveless marriage, Ronan did everything he could to make their lives "comfortable" for them, even if it meant having to put up with his wife constantly berating him.
Tensions began to rise higher in their marriage when their son, Michael, came out as a boy. Ronan was supportive of his son's gender identity, but Alyssa was beyond pissed.
He paid for Michael's hormone therapy and had his name legally changed.
Took Michael to have gender-reassignment surgery at the age of 18 behind Alyssa's back. This act led to a MAJOR fight between the married couple, resulting in Alyssa nearly blinding Ronan with a glass vase that she threw close to his eye and kicking Michael out of the house.
Ronan continues to support Michael and help him through his struggles with depression and pill and alcohol abuse.
Had an affair with a family friend on Anais's last birthday, who also happened to be the widowed father of one of Anais's friends. Noelle witnessed the affair and called for her mother without even thinking first due to the shock.
Their marriage became unbearably worse after that day. Alyssa brings up the affair at every chance she is given and torments and berates Ronan even worse than before.
The affair is still ongoing; they just think that they are doing a good job at keeping it hidden.
The word about Ronan's affair had gotten around at Noelle's old school, which led to the bullying that she was already dealing with becoming worse. This also led to the decision for Noelle to transfer to Dupont.
While Ronan likes Noelle's new friends, the only friend that he doesn't completely trust Lila Rossi. In his words, "There's just something not right about that picture".
Despite his miserable and depressing home life, Ronan has yet to become akumatized. Hawk Moth/Shadow Moth/Monarch is lying in wait for the moment that Ronan reaches his "breaking point" and is at his lowest.

i dare you to write an essay about vivo 🙊
oh my god, yes, finally someone who wants to hear about vivo THANK YOU BEL ANON FOR THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY.
so first of all, who is vivo? vivo is a kinkajou anon, and you would probably ask me now: what's a kinkajou? oh baby, i think that you're ready to learn a thing or two it's a yellow monkey (idk i'm dumb, ok? but he is cute and he has a little hat and big brown eyes and lin-manuel miranda's voice), he lives in cuba and he is a puerto rican rapper making music with his best friend andrés.
Tumblr media
okay, you may be thinking: what's a kinkajou doing playing music in cuba, don't they like usually live in the rain forest? well, maybe he fell in a shipping crate as a baby, next thing he knew, he was somewhere new, he wasn't singing the same chorus-
and then andrés found him and saved his life and they have been best friends ever since.
Tumblr media
but then, like 15 min into the movie, andrés dies. pretty fucked up if you ask me. and now vivo is on a mission to deliver a love song written by andrés to marta, the woman he was in love with. and gabi, his new friend, helps him.
Tumblr media
(of course they don't get along at the beginning)
the whole story is amazing. the soundtrack slaps, but what else did you expect, it's literally lin-manuel miranda. the thing is, it's actually so underrated and no one ever talks about it, so it's my duty to force all of you to watch it now. please, do it. i promise you it's amazing.

Collusion - André and Gabriel scene
André : Be serious, Gabriel. What's with those police-bots?
Gabriel : Was any of my idea bad, André? We always had each other's back, right?
André : Do you remember when we were young and penniless? When we were rewritting the world, Émilie, you and me in our small room under the roof? You made my first costume so I gain in confidence and so Audrey - who I have fallen in love with - noticed me. Don't you think we were happier back then? Than our lives were better? Fairer?
Gabriel : What are you talking about? You have everything to be happy, André. You have the wife of your dream, a daughter, Paris city hall.
André : A wife who barely respects me. A daughter as selfish as she is heartless. A city hall I didn't wanted. I've entered politics as a father, to impress Audrey. You know that.
Gabriel : I don't see what you are talking about.
André : Gabriel, look at me. I admit, I've lied, I've cheated and I've abused of my power. I had dreams. I was an artist. I wanted to make movies. Now I have becomed a puppet in the service of his family and his friends. Police-bots today and tomorrow, what's next? Well, maybe I'll replace teachers by machines or change schools into jails. Turning them into factory of cretins just good enough to buy products to increase the wealth of you, me, and Tsurugi-san. And you? Look at you. You create unique clothes to give shape to people's dream. Today, you design police-bots and connected rings. But... maybe there is still hope. We can still change. Abandon our privileges. Change back to who we were.
Gabriel : What do I say to Tsurugi-san?
André : Tell her "no". I won't do it. I will now on be on the side of the good guys, Gabi.
Gabriel : If it is truly what you want...
André : Hey! That script wasn't half bad actually! Haha! There is funny scene there!

'34 pt. II, thoughts:
Gaby Triquet is, ah, a child actor. She's doing her little best. Baur is fantastic opposite her, all his gruffness gone gentle. (Andrée Rolane in '25 has utterly outshone all other child Cosettes for me, to be honest.)
Thénardier puts the bowl of his pipe in his mouth. I'm weirded out.
We don't see Valjean's recapture or escape from the Orion, but ten months have passed since part I. If I understand correctly (by which I mean, per the Wikipedia article), there's possibly 25ish minutes of film missing—not sure how much info we have on that, or on the content of the original release, but maybe relevant to this gap. Alternately, it's another moment where '34 forgets itself in conforming to the Brick.
The scene in which we are introduced to Cosette and Valjean's "mature" (she's sixteen!) relationship feels like walking into the middle of an argument, one to which both parties are accustomed yet neither has tired of, and which has no rancor. Cosette argues that she remains & will remain the daughter he rescued in Montfermeil even as she reaches new milestones, while Valjean believes instead the change of her beauty and maturity (! such as the latter is!) makes an essential alteration that will leave him behind. This is to some degree the argument that Valjean believes himself winning at the end of the Brick (a "winning" which kills him), debuted in '34 rather early in the narrative. Cosette is sweet and willful—I wonder whether Josseline Gaël didn't read at least some of the Brick for this role, as it's a very close adaptation IMO of the character's book portrayal (the film makes me think of what Cosette's dialogue would've been like in the Brick after her marriage if she weren't so afraid). There's a line of dialogue here—"It's like a chain that binds us, M. Fauchelevent"—that startles hell out of me, given what chains signify and evoke in this film, but—OK, sure, Cosette might not precisely know what the associations are, but while she's playful she's not playing and her language says as much.
The age gap is squicking me out in this version. No deep thought just squick. Go away and come back in a few years, Marius.
Javert is at the Musain investigating political dissidents. He takes one look at Marius and facepalms. They have never met before. Is he having a presentiment of how much trouble this boy is going to cause him? Meanwhile the Amis have terrible opsec, there's a copper at the door and they're in back politicking boisterously. Maybe they are banking on Javert being as unable to tell them apart as I am.
'34 anticipates Schönberg-Boublil with its musical Amis—we have a singalong, "Si César m'avait donné/La gloire et la guerre" etc.
The subtitles for the version I'm watching misspells Lamarque's name as Lamarck throughout, making this the very dramatic funeral of—uh, a biologist?
When Marius is begging for permission to marry and exclaims "mon père!" I don't entirely buy the flow of conversation, but his "aw, shit" expression afterwards is excellent (in any case, I'm not sure I've bought this exchange in any version, including the Brick's). This Gillenormand is an awful little man who I suspect I'm meant to find funny.
Éponine, what are they DOING to you? I couldn't even tell you how I feel about this portrayal as it relates to the novel or to other adaptations—it's the uncovered cough by Florelle all over again, I can't focus on Demazis' performance past my cringing. The insult culminates with Éponine being turned away at the barricade in part III, but it starts as she tidies up Marius' room on his behalf.
Marius informs Cosette of the Gorbeau ambush in a deviation from the novel—and I don't think the reordering of events is actually the most important aspect here; that's a simple storytelling choice, not having the time to have their courtship on-screen but still wanting the drama of the ambush to happen. Rather, it's one of the moments when Cosette is kept informed, and another instance where her demands are met by the men in her life (in the way they aren't, in the Brick). I wonder if this isn't so much the adaptation where everyone communicates more clearly as it is the one in which they communicate more clearly specifically with her. (An aside: she divulges the address on the Rue Plumet, which she has previously withheld, which she, uh, might best still do? Whatever, her past loyalty to Valjean is sweet.)
Marius then informs Javert of the Gorbeau ambush, gifting us with the seed for '34's best moment of comedy. Unfortunately we are also given this, Javert speaking: "Ah, yes, Fauchelevent. An old carter from Montreuil-sur-Mer. He finished his days as a gardener at the Picpus convent." This, here, is the worst dialogue in the film. It's doing two things: trying to inform the viewer why Valjean is going under the name Fauchelevent—asking us to tie this to Cosette's mention of a convent and draw a conclusion (seems to me what it's really doing is relying on us knowing the novel already and only needing a reminder of some details, which is cheap). It somewhat functions to demonstrate why Javert is drawing a connection to Valjean, but it's not the most salient detail for him to blurt out. Vanel tries so hard to pull this off as a thoughtful, ruminative statement, like it's something any normal human would say out loud, and fails; Servais stares at him with a flat, fixed expression—might've been better to look irritable, responding to this as the weird digression it is. If I treat this as anything other than a narrative failure, it's as more evidence of the way in which Vanel's Javert's primary trait is awkwardness. Like when you've got a hyperfixation, have a great deal of knowledge about anything connected thereto, and will infodump at a nudge.
Éponine is granted one (1) dignity during the ambush as she questions Marius for not alerting the police to the ongoing old man assault happening next door.
Criminal that Criterion will not let me screenshot this Javert gang. There's something to be said about these adaptations where he is visually interchangeable with other police—where he is only one member of the authority that threatens Valjean.
I do not mind how drawn-out the fight is between Valjean and Patron-Minette, watching Harry Baur beat the shit out of people is good fun.
Javert turning up at rue de l'Homme-Armé, playfully pretending there's any question of Valjean's identity (he smiles a great deal in this scene, he's having a great day, until—), being whupped in the face with a tablecloth, and then somehow losing a foot chase to a man who has lately been beat to hell—*chef's kiss* Comedy. Also, despite the lack of any comparable scene in the novel, retains the spirit of the way in which Hugo undercuts Javert's dignity. (Subtitles indicate Valjean identifies himself as "Ursule Fauchelevent"—the sound quality and my ears are both bad, is this accurate...?)
There's something to be said about the meaning of the chaîne ending part II but it will have to take someone with more brain than I currently possess to dig it up.

Harry Baur in Les Misérables (Raymond Bernard, 1934) Cast: Harry Baur, Charles Vanel, Florelle, Josseline Gaël, Gaby Triquet, Jean Servais, Orane Demazis, Gilberte Savary, Charles Dullin, Marguerite Moreno, Émile Genevois, Robert Vidalin, Paul Azaïs, Max Dearly, Henry Krauss. Screenplay: Raymond Bernard, André Lang, based on a novel by Victor Hugo. Cinematography: Jules Kruger. Production design: Lucien Carré, Jean Perrier. Music: Arthur Honegger. Harry Baur gives one of the great film performances in Les Misérables, beginning with a tour de force in the first installment, subtitled Tempest in a Skull, in which he plays not only the brutish convict Jean Valjean and his first assumed identity, the benevolent mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer, M. Madeleine, but also the addle-brained Champmathieu, wrongly fingered as the fugitive Valjean. Baur's Valjean is not the dashing, younger heroic figure embodied by Fredric March in Richard Boleslawski's 1935 Hollywood version or Hugh Jackman in Tom Hooper's 2012 film of the musical. March and Jackman had to work hard to suggest Valjean's hardened convict past, but Baur looks the part. He cleans up nicely, though. Raymond Bernard's version is closer to the epic Victor Hugo novel than the later adaptations, which necessitates its miniseries length: a 281-minute total run time, divided into three films. Trilogies typically sag in the middle: In Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, for example, The Two Towers (2002) is weaker than The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and The Return of the King (2003). But Bernard manages to give each part fairly equal heft, concentrating on Valjean's transformation in Tempest in a Skull, on the thwarted manipulations of the titular couple in The Thénardiers, and on the fight on the barricades in Freedom, Dear Freedom. This is not to say that there isn't some slackness within each installment: Bernard, like many directors who mastered their skills making silent films, doesn't seem fully at home with sound even yet; there are scenes in which the actors seem to be holding a pose a beat or two longer than necessary. And despite Arthur Honegger's distinguished score, Bernard allows some scenes that could use the "sweetening" of background music to go without it. In The Thénardiers, for example, the plot to ensnare Valjean and the ensuing fight scene could have used some tension-and-release music, but the score only begins, rather abruptly, when the lovers, Marius (Jean Servais) and Cosette (Josseline Gaël), meet. But as a totality, Les Misérables is a triumph, and apparently a little-known one, to judge by the fact that it doesn't come up as one of the top results in an IMDb search. Jules Kruger's cinematography gives an expressionist tilt to some of its scenes, and the production design, from the slummy haunts of the Thénardiers to the opulence of Gillenormand's mansion, is superb. But most of all it has Baur and a tremendous supporting cast, particularly Florelle* as a very touching Fantine, and Émile Genevois as a memorable Gavroche. Charles Vanel's Javert is not humanized sufficiently in the script, I think, so that his suicide comes as something of an anticlimax, but he gives it all the implacable menace the role allows him. But it's Baur who carries the film as impressively as he carries Servais's Marius through the sewers in the climax.
*Her full name was Odette Elisa Joséphine Marguerite Rousseau, and she was occasionally billed as Odette Florelle. It's too bad that today her screen name sounds like an air freshener.
