the way I just know musical tumblr and the rest of the internet would be obsessed with Mula sa Buwan (musical retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac set in 1940s WWII Philippines) but it’s locked behind a language barrier
#like cmon#myke salomon’s portrayal of cyrano was so 💗#playful charming confident idealistic (mildly homoerotic) sincere#a cabaret of misfit student leaders who are childhood friends#being led by a trans woman#AND SHE HAS A WHOLE POWERHOUSE NUMBER ABOUT BEING FREE#which is like yknow about gender and identity expression but also alluding to the japanese colonization of the philippines#there’s also a swordfight rap battle at the start and a song where cyrano jokes about his nose to hide his insecurity using dick euphemisms#and he’s a poet like the original so his comebacks >>>>#and cyrano and roxane are childhood friends here (not cousins lmao) and they act so much like best friends it’s so cute#and he supports her dreams of being a fighter and living her own life but unfortunately society was very set on gender roles#and the music FUCCKKKKKKKKK#‘lahat ng tao’y nakangiti sa buwan / ako’y mula sa buwan (on the moon everyone’s smiling / I must be from the moon)#and then the love song that confident witty cyrano sings while pining after roxane from afar#and the duet they sing together at night where he confesses everything under another man’s name and she’s unaware but it’s still so sweet#there’s love and revolution and friendship and family and growth#CAST RECORDING PLS#gab pangilinan’s voice >>>>#mula sa buwan#musicals#theater

01-02.09.24 | Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Circuit Makati X Filling Station, Poblacion
So our indecisive asses finally made a decision between MSB and OMC. Although I've watched MSB 3x already, I'm still excited to watch it every time they have a rerun. Since it was last minute, (we booked a Sept. 1 show on Aug 30 lmao how impulsive) we were not able to get the seats that we initially preferred but pleased that we still get a good view from the seats we got (Loge - Left Side)
My dudes, Mula sa Buwan did not disappoint. This year's rerun brought more! The songs were top notch, as they have always been. In addition, the stage itself was graced with gorgeous back drop and projection.
Myke Salomon did Cyrano justice, but it will always be Gab Pangilinan's Roxanne that captivated me. Her live vocals is what I pay those tickets for!
The show started at 1930H so we were not able to grab an early dinner prior. We went out of the theater with my girlie pop being antok and hungry hahaha. So we booked a ride from Circuit to Poblacion. The rain has not stopped so we just went to Filling Station (since it operates 24H and we weren't sure how long we'll be stuck with the inclement weather)
With her being antok and hungry, she kinda over ordered yet again, resulting in take aways lmao. I got my favorite strawberry milkshake and buffalo wings. We shared a pizza and salad, while she ordered pasta and steak for herself.
Took some cute photographs downstairs before booking a ride to her workplace at 0500H. After we got there, I booked my own ride home. Clingy? Di na lang nag book from Poblacion, hinatid pa nga hahaha.
Really glad to have someone watch my favorite stage musical with me. Now she asks if I want to watch OMC as well because she enjoyed MSB so much daw hahaha idk mayaman ba ko?

anyway my mula sa buwan thoughts!!! 🌕
and before i go any further there's one last day to stream today, march 26th 2023! go to mulasabuwan.com/tickets for info!
really loved it! i enjoyed the humour and i thought myke salomon as cyrano was a great charismatic lead, and ofc he had great chemistry with his Real Life Actual Wife ms gab pangilinan as roxane... i really enjoyed the cute 1940s costumes and hairstyles, i also really enjoyed phi palmos' in-drag role as rosanna. i love seeing pinoy theatre champion LGBT performers and characters especially in not making them the butt of a joke (tbh a good contrast to the portrayal of phi palmos' character in ang huling el bimbo musical too, he seemed more like his character WAS the butt of the joke sometimes in that show)
songs good. loved ikaw the most, i'd been really waiting for the full version since they dropped the teasers. i loved the reprises too especially with cyrano+ christian together, beautiful harmonies there, very kilig
when we got to the absolutely crushing emotionally devastating act ii where we get Right In to the horrors of war... fhhfhf very visceral i won't linger on it but let's just say if you know your filipino wartime history they really Went There.
the whole cyrano de bergerac love triangle situation is highkey always frustrating but never more so as when christian is like... kind and likeable AFDHDGHFHD also tbh markki stroem is SO handsome out there on stage with his captain america physique giving full himbo absolutely tearing my heart to shreds!!!!???!!?!!? everything about That Scene after roxane and rosanna meet the soldiers at their camp hahahaha could NOTTTT stop sobbing like from the moment christian has his realisation up until the end of the whole 'at war' scene... 😩😫😭😭
tbh the last couple scenes DID drag a bit but its pretty in keeping with the filipino dramas/tragedies ive ever watched before, they love to really milk the angst. just think maybe we didnt need one longass sad solo from roxane, then, following cyrano's monologue... another sad solo from roxane.
THAT BEING SAID i cannot get ENOUGH of the symbolism of the ghostlight at the beginning and the whole play bookending roxane in the present day like... summoning everyone's ghosts to tell the story, and the final visual of cyrano taking his place on the stage as like this immortalised figure.... very beautiful very powerful i WAS crying again loved it
#loren talks#mula sa buwan#spoiler warning but i mean#it follows all the regular historical cyrano de bergerac beats including all the death haha#cyrano de bergerac

Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical 2023 #AHEBTheMusical2023
Ako ngayo'y lumilipad at nasa alapaap na Gusto mo bang sumama?
Last July 2, 2023 one of my many dreams happened--that is to watch AHEB live. I watched it on YouTube last 2020 during lockdown. Had the knowledge of the said musical since its first run last 2018. I love watching musicals may it be a movie or a theater play. But since I've watched AHEB, I've been wanting to have the opportunity to watch it live.
When they announced last December 2022 that they will have a re-run on April 2023, I know in my heart that I will be able to watch it live. I don't know how or when, since I do not know how to commute going to Manila. Fast forward to June 2023, my birth month. I want it to be a gift to myself. But still, I do not how. Hahaha. Then I had lunch with my HS friends (Allaysa, Shi, and Janelle). They asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday and I told them I just want to watch AHEB live. Then Allaysa said that she'd been wanting to watch it too so they decided to go with me. Grabe huhuhu.
(Thank God for friends who's willing and ready to do things with you. Being so supportive in everything I want to do. They played a huge part of this momentous time in my life. Kasi kung hindi sila sumama, for sure hindi ako natuloy. Love you, girls so much!)
June 17, we booked our tickets for the July 2 show. I didn't know what to feel!!! I am so excited that I am so speechless! Then came July 2, I was able to watch it live for the first time…
It's my first time to watch a musical play in a theater!!! As in legit musical play in a legit theater!!! Until now I cannot describe the feeling. Still can't believe. Parang nasa alapaap pa rin ako huhuhu. (Kaya ngayon lang ako nakagawa ng entry here huhuhu) Our chosen seats were nice too. I got to buy merch as well. And I got to watch Gab Pangilinan perform!!! Ahhhhh my heart! All the casts were so good in their roles! Got the chance to have a photo op with the old version of the main casts. Sayang lang hindi kasama young versions, but still!
I remember, after Act 1, I remained in my seat while everyone's having a break. All I could utter was 'Thank You, Lord'. Because my heart was so full, so grateful for that privelege of being there. That dream to perform once again rekindled in my heart. Someday, one day, I'll be able to perform in a musical play…
What an experience it was!! The first time, but definitely not the last. Here's to more musical plays to watch in theaters in this lifetime!

PasigLaban
2022's 5th Most Memorable Moment
I never intended to go to Leni’s campaign rally in Pasig, but my sister, her friends, and Annie had encouraged me to come—their selling point was, “Ben&Ben will be there.” I wanted to be a silent supporter of Leni—someone who who wasn’t vocal about which candidate I support, but deep down, I was a Kakampink.
But… Attending the PasigLaban rally changed all of that. It was the first campaign rally I’ve ever joined.
That was also the first time I heard the song by Nica del Rosario.
I felt quite ashamed that I wasn’t able to sing along with all the others when Nica and Gab Pangilinan sang this song live during the rally.
I was able to sing during the performance of the bands and artists before them, but I ironically couldn’t sing on the songs that matter.
So I promised myself that I would repeatedly play this song until I’ve memorized it—even the voicing (yeah, I also listened to the version by Bukas Palad Ministry).
Anyway… anyone who has attended Leni’s rally know the feeling of inspiration and exhilaration it gives. Yes, it was also exhausting and uncomfortable as an MRT ride during pre-pandemic rush hour, but it was definitely worth it.
Read more about my PasigLaban experience here.
