and one of the scene that will explain to you exactly how much Zack meant to Cloud is OPTIONAL.

The town welcomes you with its graveyard, and at this point you've seen so many towns that lost a huge part of their lives to the reactors' explosion that it's just another one, just a town that had the "luck" to have bodies to bury
