@urfavcrime hope it was okay to tag but I've been itching for an excuse to talk about Gem and Tommy!! Forgive me if this is a bit ooc I've only watched a few of Gems videos-
Gem takes her role as Auntie very seriously.
At first, she was a bit miffed about the whole situation. fWhip had no intention to tell her—his sister—about this, and she would have gone on unaware of Tommy even longer if fWhip wasn't terrible at hiding him. Doesn't fWhip trust her?
After fWhip explains the whole situation (Tommy has come from some kind of abusive situation; fWhip doesn't know the details, just that Tommy pleaded to be kept hidden so "he" never finds him), Gem eases up about the whole affair.
Seeing the fondness fWhip has for Tommy, the way he effortlessly laughs at his jokes and gently scolds him for his bad language, is enough to convince Gem that everything is okay and that her brother hasn't made some huge mistake she'll need to fix.
Gem's actually quite proud of fWhip for taking on such a big responsibility. I don't think she'd view him as parent material until she sees the way he interacts with Tommy.
Gem acts sort of like an old grandma when Tommy visits, always checking if he's hungry, and even if he says no, she's shoving plates of food towards him. complaining about how fWhip doesn't feed him enough, and he's all skin and bones (which, when you live in the snowy mountains, body fat is very important).
She lets Tommy borrow a few simple spell books after he whined and pleaded to be taught magic (not enchantment table magic that's cringe and lame, real poggers magic like hers!). If she had any doubts about Tommy being fWhips' kid before, she certainly has none after Tommy nearly blows up half of the Eastvale Manor with magic. He is promptly banned from performing magic at home unsupervised.
The Crystal Cliffs are a nice getaway from the Grimlands when Tommy needs it. Gems' tower doesn't have the regular echo of explosions and fireworks. Tommy has slowly grown to learn that he's safe in Eastvale and that fWhips' experiments won't ever be used to hurt him. But even if you consciously know something isn't dangerous, that doesn't necessarily translate over to your subconscious, and it certainly doesn't for Tommys' C-PTSD. So on occasion, he goes to stay with Gem when it's all too loud and stressful at home.
The only problem with it is that Tommy has a habit of running off and not telling anyone where he's going. Tommy does it a lot more than he'd admit—a flight response to his fear of abandonment, I suppose. Tommy could get away with it when no one was worried about where he'd be going, but now he has people who care for his safety (fWhip) and would burn down empires to find him. He's raising his whole familys' blood pressure; Papa fWhip is no exception.
Luckily, Gem knows this and will send a message to fWhip every time Tommy comes to see her, regardless of whether he says fWhip is aware or not. Gem is good at remembering the little things that are important with Tommy: the areas he doesn't like being touched but won't say, the way he likes his tea, the kinds of sounds that upset him, etc.
Gem, as usual, tries to be the voice of reason in her chaotic family, so she's usually the one who has to stop Tommy from causing problems on purpose (fWhip is an instigator, and Sausage always wants to join in). Think of Gem picking him up by the scruff of his clothes so Tommy doesn't bite someone who mildly inconvenienced him. She can and will invent a whole new spell that's just an up-sized child leash if she has to, young man, do not test her. or she just lightly bonks him on the head with her staff; that works when he steals her hat.
All that being said, Gem is a lot more forgiving of Tommy if he does something genuinely wrong. I imagine she'd view him in a similar light to the way she views her Pillager students, "good people from bad homes," and all. She's patient when Tommy doesn't understand why something he did is wrong and never expresses anger towards him, just understanding and kindness. It works surprisingly well, especially with some sort of physical touch (handholding, hugs) to help ground Tommy in the present and remind him that he's not going to be exiled or hurt for 'fucking up' again.
It's confusing for Tommy why fWhip and Gem are both so nice to him when he clearly doesn't deserve it for inconveniencing them all the time. But he's also desperate for the love and attention they give him, so as much as he hates it and feels weak leaning into it, he happily calls her Auntie Gem, and out of earshot, he refers to fWhip as 'dad'.
Gem is the #1 supporter of fWhip officially adopting Tommy, and she's not subtle about it whatsoever. fWhip hasn't signed the papers yet because he doesn't want to lock Tommy into something he doesn't want, and Tommy hasn't brought it up because he doesn't want to annoy fWhip, and it is so frustrating to watch. More frustrating than Gem watching Scott and Jimmy not realising their crushes on each other are mutual.
That's all I've got so far with her. Sorry, it's not a whole lot 🖤

fWhip woke up to the feeling of a hammer pounding his brain from the inside. Way too much light came into the room, in his opinion, and he rolled in bed to the opposite side in an effort to keep sleeping. It didn’t help much, considering the amount of windows some idiot decided to put in his room. The Count grabbed his pillow and used it to cover his head, groaning in annoyance.
“fWhip? Are you awake?” Someone asked from the other side of the room.
No, he was not. He tried to tell them that, but whatever came out of his mouth weren’t words.
Suddenly, the blankets were yanked from him, cold, cruel air hitting his still warm body and killing whatever hopes he had of returning to sleep. fWhip opened his eyes, looking for whoever dared to steal from the Count of the Grimmlands and ready to sent them to jail.
“You already slept in,” Sausage told him, unimpressed. “And people are probably starting to talk, specially after yesterday”
Yesterday. Right. The no good, very bad day he had that apparently not even all the alcohol he had consumed had helped him forget. He could still recall her face when he told her to stay away from him, which meant that the horrible headache he was suffering through right now was for nothing.
At least the memory didn’t sting anymore.
It just… hurt.
Sausage was still looking at him from the side of his bed as he recalled what happened. He seemed annoyed, though not mad, which checked out. He had never been the most open to him about Gem (scratch that, he hadnt said a word about the situation to anybody), and he did probably ruin his chances to make up with her. Not to mention how he had risked Mythland’s possible allyship with Gemini’s almost-empire (Cristal… Crystal mountains? Crystal steps? Whatever), and the whole having-to-pick-him-up-drunk-from-a-tavern.
To be fair, he had no idea why he had done that last bit. It’s not like fWhip had asked him to do it, so it shouldn’t be on him. Sausage was perfectly capable of taking bad decisions if he so chose.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m up, mother” he grumbled, sitting up. “What are you doing here, anyway?” The thought of apologizing for his behaviour last night crossed his mind, but he quickly threw it to the side.
A change of clothes was thrown to his face, as Sausage kept digging through his wardrove. It wasn’t his first time in his room, and for what he could tell from the state of his couch in the other side of the room, he had probably stayed the night here and was currently looking for something to borrow.
Again, not the first time. fWhip started changing.
“I didn’t want to leave you alone last night. You got pretty drunk, you know?”
“Well, that would explain the headache,” he didn’t waste time replying. “What, afraid I’d fuck up my relationship with my sister more than I already did?”
fWhip shouldn’t had said that. He realized the moment the words left his mouth, but by then it was too late to take it back.
It wasn’t like him to go right to the point, but then again this last two days nobody seemed to follow the rules. Gemini went back from her little disappearing act, Sausage didn’t follow him after his outburst with his sister, fWhip actually confronted his problems.
He really hoped this whole madness stopped sooner than later, preferably before he started opening out or, and he knocked on wood, he talked about his feelings.
“It’s not my place to call you out,” he told him in a voice that held clear disappointed, and the memory of the last time he had tried to pry about fWhip’s sister. The Count couldn’t help but feel guilty at the way he had lashed out at him, told him to stay away from his family matters. Yeah, he wishes he hadnt done that. “But I would be an awful friend if I didn’t remind you of your duties. People are expecting to hear what you have to say, you know. The only reason why your council hasn’t throw down your door is because they know I’m here”
fWhip had no doubt of that, and the reminder only made him want to go back to bed and curl down behind a thousand blankets until the word forgot about him. The talking, statements, public image, that was his least favourite part about ruling. And if you added up the whole emotional factor to the equation? The Count was probably about to have the worst week of the year, almost as bad as his birthday if he guessed correctly.
But right now, it wastn what bothered him. It was Sausage’s voice, part annoyed, part hurt, deffinetely disappointed that he could pin out only because of how long they had know each other. fWhip knew Sausage wanted to say something more, wanted him to communicate, but knew better than to try.
It was probably for the best. Knowing himself, the Count would say something mean or cruel to get him out of his case, and he didn’t want to hurt Sausage. He was the closest thing he had to a friend in the world, and he didn’t think he could afford to loose him, both political and personally.
There was always time to reach out, he told himself, even if he knew he would never do so. He was too proud for that.
Sometimes he wished he wasn’t so much of his father’s son.
“Do you know what you’re going to say?” Sausage asked him, as he finished getting ready to go out and face the world.
“I mean, yeah” he responded. “Im going to sign the papers to allow negociations about how much the Grimmlands are going to aid, terms of allyship, that stuff, and then read some statement about my sister to the people that I have no doubt one of my advisors already made up”
That made the mythlander turn around.
“You’re going in?” he asked, surprised.
fWhip just looked at him. “Well, yes. I know Mythland is definitely going to sign-”
“Our magic has-” Sausage quickly started explaining, the excuse obviously having been playing on his head from the moment he heard the deal.
“-has been growing weaker over the years, I know. I understand. This is not a deal you can turn down, and the Grimmlands definitely can’t either without looking bad, and my council will have my head before allowing me to make an enemy of one of our closest neighbours, much less of one that’s allied with Mythland” he finished explaining.
Because that’s all politics boiled down to most of the time. Logic. There was no time or place for fWhip’s pride, even if it made him mad to think about sitting in a meeting room once a month with his sister for the rest of his life.
This was about his people, not himself. If he wanted to be a better ruler than his father, he would have to get used to the idea of his pride being stomped down now and then.
“And…” you could hear the hesitation in his voice a chunk away. “You don’t mind?”
fWhip snorted. “Of course I do, but it doesn’t really matter”
“Oh”
They looked at each other, fWhip trying to guess what the next uncomfortable question was going to be, and Sausage thinking of the best was to ask it. They were both ready to go, and at this point there was no reason to stay in his room, but it was difficult to tell which situation would be worse at this point.
“Do you want to go back to how things were with Gem?” Sausage finally asked, and fWhip knows he must look like a Salmon in a dry bucket by the way his mouth opened and closed with no rest, as he tried to think how to answer that.
As if sensing he had no real answer, the king continued. “Because I think you should decide on that before you speak with her again. Or you might do something you regret”
The night after this little piece, again, with 0 proofreading/editing.
This two parts are from a wip I'm working on that it's looking like a 15k oneshot instead of the 3k planned. Yay. Good part is Im already 11k in.

Jimmy still felt like he was in a daze when they made it back to his empire. Lizzie hadn’t let go of his hand once, and he was grateful for the grounding touch. She was still murmuring words of comfort and asking what happened, but Jimmy could only nod numbly. Every single thought and feeling he had of Scott felt tainted now. Was anything he had felt even real? Or did Jimmy just fall right for Scott’s plan (whatever it was) hook, line, and sinker. Just thinking about it made Jimmy feel nauseous.
Katherine and Joel landed beside Jimmy and Lizzie, and Katherine looking equally as distraught as Jimmy felt shook him out of his stupor slightly. Wordlessly he let go of Lizzie’s hand to pull Katherine into a hug. He held her tight as she hugged him back, crying into his shoulder.
“It’s gone. It’s all gone. There’s barely anything left of my castle,” she hiccuped. Jimmy didn’t know what to say as he held her, but gently rubbing her back seemed to help.
“Fwhip was plotting against the House Blossom Alliance the whole time, Sausage too. I think Gem, Pearl, and Scott were involved as well,” Joel explained. Jimmy just about shuddered at the mention of Scott, trying not to cry.
“Why would they do that?!” Lizzie gasped.
“Fwhip said something about how the alliance was too argumentative, and should be destroyed before anything worse could happen and bring down our empires,” Joel explained. Katherine let out another hiccupping sob at Joel’s words, and Jimmy murmured words of comfort to her. Then he looked up to the skies, and his heart froze. Three figures were flying towards them- one with elytra, one with bright yellow feathered wings, and one with white feathered wings tipped in gold. Joel noticed Gem, Pearl, and Scott in the air as well, and grit his teeth as he put a hand on the hilt of his sword. Lizzie rushed over and put a hand over Joel’s, shaking her head.
“Stay on guard, but let’s hear them out. We only know that Fwhip and Sausage were the masterminds behind this. But if they are here for trouble, we’ll make sure they regret it,” Lizzie said, tone going dark at the end of her statement. Joel hesitated for a moment or two, but dropped his hand from his sword with a frustrated sigh. He and Lizzie did, however, stand protectively in front of Jimmy and Katherine as Gem, Pearl, and Scott came to a landing in front of them. Jimmy let go of Katherine, but she didn’t go far, taking his hand and gripping it tightly.
“I know we’re not high on your list of people to see, but hear us out. We didn’t know that Fwhip was going to take such… drastic measures,” Pearl explained, hands up placatingly as her wings fluttered anxiously.
“But you did know Fwhip was up to something,” Joel countered.
“We knew he wasn’t super happy about the House Blossom Alliance, but we thought that he would just pull a harmless prank or pick a fight with Jimmy or something. Not destroy Katherine’s castle,” Gem continued, Pearl nodding along with her. Scott stayed suspiciously quiet, and Jimmy’s mouth settled into a firm line as he let go of Katherine’s hand.
“But Scott knew. Didn’t you,” he accused, glaring at Scott. His expression immediately turned guilty, and that was all the confirmation Jimmy needed.
“I wanted to tell you, really! But-”
“But you kissed me instead of telling me or ANYONE about Fwhip’s plan!” Jimmy shouted, stepping forward and gesturing angrily, that cold numb feeling from before now replaced with molten fury. Lizzie gasped, drawing her sword and fully intending to lunge at Scott, but Joel quickly scrambled over to hold her back.
“Joel, let go of me, I need to give Scott a piece of my mind for taking advantage of our sweet swamp boy’s heart!” Lizzie fumed, straining against Joel’s hold. Joel glared at Scott, but his grip on Lizzie didn’t let up.
“Scott, you better have an explanation for this, or I will let my wife loose on you,” Joel warned. Scott actually looked a little terrified, and part of Jimmy hated the fact that he was relieved at that.
“I should have warned people about the TNT, I know. I just- it was stupid of me to hope that Fwhip was going to change his mind. And I was going to tell Jimmy, but then I saw Fwhip in the distance, and he had his crossbow aimed at him. I- I figured that Fwhip wouldn’t take the shot if it meant hitting me too. So that’s why I kissed Jimmy, and by that point it was too late to warn anyone,” Scott explained, his expression pleading and apologetic. Joel and Lizzie seemed to accept his explanation, as Joel let go of Lizzie and she sheathed her sword- but they both still glared at him. And Jimmy wanted to believe him, wanted to say he forgave Scott and rush back into his arms again- but there was something else that bothered him.
“What did Fwhip mean, when he said something about ‘playing the part?’” Jimmy asked, absolutely terrified of the answer but needing to know the truth anyway. Scott swallowed nervously, expression overcome with guilt once more.
“Fwhip told me to keep an eye on you, make sure you wouldn’t be a problem. It wasn’t just Katherine goading me into being nice that kept me coming to your empire, at first. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t-”
“Leave,” Jimmy growled, having enough of Scott’s excuses. Scott flinched at Jimmy’s tone. Good, it was about time people stopped seeing him as the sweet swamp boy or the friendly Codfather. He was done being pushed around, done being used and tossed aside.
“Jimmy, please- believe me, I really do care-”
“I don’t wanna hear it! I’m sick of your lies and manipulation! I never want you to set foot in the Cod Empire again, if I ever even SEE you again I will make sure you regret it,” Jimmy shouted, the words fracturing his heart into a million pieces. But he couldn’t afford to trust Scott ever again.
“Jimmy…” Scott trailed off, any fight finally leaving him as his wings drooped. His gaze shifted between Jimmy’s angry glare, the tears on Katherine’s face, the glares from Lizzie and Joel, and the sympathetic and apologetic expressions on Gem and Pearl’s faces. He looked back at Jimmy one last time, eyes glassy- before taking off into the night sky. Jimmy couldn’t even watch him leave.
“We truly are sorry for everything that happened. We know it doesn’t make up for it… but we wish you the best, Codfather and allies,” Gem said softly, before taking off into the sky as well. Pearl gave them a weak smile before following Gem. Jimmy waited until he could no longer see either of them in the sky, and finally let himself cry, falling to his knees as ugly sobs wrenched their way out of his throat. Lizzie scrambled to his side, pulling him into a hug and letting Jimmy cry into her shoulder.
“It’s okay, let it out. I’ve got you,” she soothed.
“He tricked me. And like a fool I fell for it, I fell for him,” Jimmy said between sobs, desperately clutching at Lizzie. Joel came over to kneel at their side, pulling both of them into his arms and rubbing Jimmy’s back. Katherine joined the hug pile too, on the opposite side of Joel. Jimmy wasn’t sure how long the three of them all stayed there with him, but they all held him until he finally had no tears left to cry.
-
After Jimmy had finished crying, Lizzie gently prodded him into changing, insisting that he would feel better in his normal clothes. She was right, and a lot of the tension drained from his shoulders once his trusty cod head was back on his head. From there, Lizzie and Joel brought him and Katherine to Lizzie’s empire, saying that Katherine could stay in the embassy she built, and that neither of them wanted either one to be alone at the moment. Katherine and Jimmy didn’t argue, neither of them wanted to be alone either. So they ended up huddled together in Katherine’s embassy, a borrowed blanket from Lizzie over both of their shoulders. Lizzie stayed with them and made sure they were comfortable, while Joel flew to Pixandria to update Pixl on everything that had happened.
“This is all my fault,” Katherine said numbly, after a long silence. Jimmy and Lizzie looked at her in confusion.
“It’s really not, you didn’t blow up your own castle, after all,” Lizzie pointed out. Katherine smiled weakly, shaking her head.
“But none of this would have happened if I didn’t insist on making friends with everyone. Everyone would have been fine if I just stayed out of it and stopped trying to bring people together,” Katherine said, voice watery.
“Katherine, if you hadn’t tried to bring us all together, I’m sure much worse would have happened. Who knows how many empires would have been destroyed if it wasn’t for you,” Jimmy countered softly. Katherine let out a small sob, hand clasping over her mouth as she tried to collect herself.
“But if I hadn’t started those meetings, pushed you and Scott to be nice to each other- then you wouldn’t have to be feeling this way,” Katherine said, voice as fragile as glass when she dropped her hand from her mouth. Jimmy shifted to face her, gently gripping her shoulders and looking Katherine in the eyes.
“Katherine, listen to me. My- my heartbreak is not your fault. None of what is happening is your fault. If anyone’s to blame, it’s Fwhip. You hear me?” Jimmy asked, voice gentle but no less serious. Katherine’s eyes went wide.
“You’re heartbroken?” she asked in a shallow gasp. Jimmy gave her a sad smile, throat growing tight as he felt his eyes watering again- funny, he thought he had run out of tears.
“I learned what love was, only for it to get crushed barely a day or two after. So… yeah. I think I am. But that still doesn’t make it your fault,” Jimmy said, tone forlorn before it turned gentle and serious once more. Katherine let out a shaky sigh, nodding her head.
“Okay. Okay. I’m still sorry you’re feeling this way, though,” Katherine said softly. Jimmy just smiled, pulling Katherine into a hug.
“So what’s our next step? Plotting our revenge on Fwhip?” Lizzie asked, and Jimmy couldn’t help but chuckle at her casual ruthlessness.
“I think before we do anything revenge-related, we should help Katherine rebuild her castle,” Jimmy replied, frankly not wanting to think about getting revenge on Fwhip, because that would likely lead to getting revenge on Scott as well. And Jimmy definitely didn’t want to think about Scott at the moment.
“I don’t know if you’re the best person to help me build,” Katherine teased lightly. Jimmy gave her a weak smile in response.
“I think I’ll be able to manage if you’re guiding me,” he replied softly.
“I would definitely appreciate the help,” she said with a smile, and it was the first time Jimmy had seen her smile, truly smile since the ball.
“Then I’ll help, mediocre building skills or not,” Jimmy insisted, glad to have something to look forward to so he could think about anything other than Scott. He was done with him, no matter what his traitorous heart thought about his sunshine smile, his laugh of gold, or those icy blue eyes that contradicted them both. So much about Scott felt like a contradiction, now. He snarled and teased and jabbed, but there was a hidden fondness too, or at least it seemed like there was. Jimmy wasn’t sure if it was ever real to begin with. Then there was how he sided with Fwhip, even though Katherine was his true ally, a business partner too. Nothing made sense, and Jimmy wondered if he should have let Scott explain- no. Jimmy was never going to give Scott a chance to use that silver tongue on him again, paired with a smile that was only gold-plated. He wouldn’t be hurt again.
