A Star Trek thought inspired by this post.

I really like when this happens. It's great for world and character building.

Firstly, it just make logical sense. TNG era is 350ish years in the future. They have an extra 350 years of history that we don't. I'm sure there are some things that happened in the 1600s that people in the 1700s thought were important, but most people today don't know or care about. It's not as relevant to us as it was to them. To Earth Star Trek people, Zephram Cochrane (the Human inventor of the warpdrive for Earth) is probably a more important historical figure to know about than Amelia Earhart. And you only have a limited amount of time to teach history in school. There's no way to teach everything, and a student won't retain everything they do learn.

They also live in an intergalactic society, so some non-Earth events are going to be important history that's shaped their society. Stuff like "This event on Andoria led to them joining the Federation, which has led to blah blah" and "This Klingon leader is why we've had peace with the Klingons for the past 50 years because blah blah" might take some general history class space.

As for the character aspect, that's a realistic detail that works. I like Julian not knowing about the 2024 Bell Riots while Sisko does. That historical period and topic is something Sisko finds important or interesting, while Julian doesn't. Paris knowing about 20th century gas-powered cars when they've had non-gas hovercars for at least 200 years is an interesting detail for him.

Personally, I have very little interest in any history after 1900. As result, using a "DS9: Past Tense" style example, if I was thrown back in time to an important WW2 battle, I'm not going to know a damn thing about what's supposed to happen and how. And that's not nearly as big a time difference as it is between Julian and 2024. To use a Paris style example, I have little idea how the very first cars from over 100 years ago worked, and I don't care to learn about it. All that matters to me is that I know how my 2021 car works.

Anyway, I just like whenever this happens in the shows, because its realistic and gives insight into the world and characters.

loved all the little cameos in the mall, very fun. also leafy! didnt really have too much screen time but oughhh they were teasing her for so long i almost lost hope. so very close to the first ever bookleaf interaction

the main event of course is tennis ball and nickel’s excellent adventure. if i had a nickel for every time a random donut line from bfb was justified by bfdia i would have two nickels: past nickel and future nickel. its nickel’s fault gaty got eliminated btw he lured that bug up there. he also caused all of tpot 15 by kicking the yoylite into the future so THANKS BUDDY

overall very funny episode! as much as i hate to say it i think needle is going to go here, she was very close to elimination last time and she also didn’t really have much to do this time. nickel is also a solid possibility due to him destabilizing the fabric of spacetime, which sources tell me is not a very “cash money” thing to do

ive seen people say they dont like the time travel but me? im eating this up its so good, wonderfully silly depiction of the butterfly effect, its perfect for bfdi. the host continuously being changed was a wonderful bit, and host with a screen! there were so many callbacks for the bfdi geeks in the crowd (me), i hope they do more with the tfi style it is so nice to watch

Suddenly struck with a really fun trineshipping idea! This time focusing on Skywarp

He was born a commoner in Vos with an exceptional outlier ability: he's the only living mech with a natural warpdrive. It has very serious connotations about his future. The nobility and royalty in Vos are notorious for hoarding all the special mecha for themselves, offering money and positions the common folk can't refuse in exchange for lofty marriage contracts or absorbing pretty outliers into their harems.

It's only by sheer luck that Skywarp's first time teleporting was within their own aerie, and very few of his relatives actually witnessed it. He was really young, and the family kept the secret gravely. If he was found out there'd be nothing they could do to keep him. The nobles of course couldn't force them to sign any contracts, but a teleporting sparkling would be a prime target for kidnapping, reformatting, and then being presented to Primus knows what buyer within or outside their city's limits. Skywarp's family is as average as they get, very few of them have higher education and they all work menial jobs in Vos. Selling him to nobility would set them up for life but his parent trine is so against the idea they refuse to breathe a word of it to their aerie's patriarchal trine.

They keep him secret as long as they can, and it's slowly suffocating him; it hurts, not being able to ever warp, lying to everyone through his teeth and pretending to be normal. Eventually, he leaves, whether out of fear of being found out or just desperate to escape, to take control of his life, and he takes on the best possible career that will let him support himself but also, more importantly, keep him from ever being high society trine material.

He becomes a high class courtesan.

It's one of the few jobs he could get, being aerie-less. Family is a huge deal in Vos, what family you come from has a lot of bearing on your prospects for life. Your accomplishments are theirs and vice versa. Their character and integrity are your character and integrity, and they're staunchly loyal, multi-generational homes that look after their own through life and death. To be without an aerie implies some serious family drama: if you screwed up bad enough to make your aerie drop you, to no longer claim you as family? It speaks of incredible crimes committed or the greatest faux pas imaginable. To be without an aerie is to be labeled untrustworthy or crazy, or a whole slew of other horrible things. Getting a job without an aerie is borderline impossible.

Of course, Skywarp wasn't kicked out, he left of his own accord, but he can't say that without arousing suspicion. He just declares he has no aerie, and that's that.

Vos has a number of high class brothels and Skywarp's beautiful, with a cute face and a better body, a smooth talking people person that can make even the most stoic mecha laugh. He's naturally funny, very charismatic, and an exceptionally fast learner: he's a born entertainer. He skates through the rigorous training and makes a grand debut, he's pulling in clients left right and center within his first week, and is booked out into the next vorn within his first month. He swiftly becomes one of their top earners and is much beloved.

He's a courtesan for a looong time, incredibly popular and has received multiple purchase offers, lovestruck regulars asking to buy out the rest of his contract so they can run away together, but he sweetly declines every time. He has no intention of retiring or settling down, ever. If he ever has sparklings of his own and they inherit his abilities, he'd just be setting them up for misery right from the start. He refuses to do that. And besides, being a courtesan is fun, in his humble opinion. He gets to wear the finest paint and sweet smelling polish, he's got a make up bureau bigger than his room at home. He gets paid to play tabletop games, dance, and sing all day, and he's always got a pretty spike to ride or a nice tight valve to fill, and always someone hot to kiss him. He gets luxurious baths and the other courtesans are fun to gossip with on their days off. He even gets to teleport a little bit, granted only back and forth across his private room just to work off the extra charge. He likes his job, and it's better than being married off solely for his special ability.

Then, they get some very exciting news! A new assignment, one of the most influential and wealthy noble houses has rented them out for a night. Apparently they're having a ball and want the prettiest and most talented mecha to perform for their guests. It costs a small fortune, more than most people make in their entire lives. They must really want to show off.

Skywarp is ecstatic. The cut each of the courtesans is promised is an incredibly hefty sum! He'll finally be able to afford those front row seat gladiator tickets that he's been dreaming about! He and his coworkers spend decacycles preparing and practicing to make themselves even better than perfect: these rich snobs have this kind of money to throw around, then they definitely have to pull some of them in as new customers! It's going to be an easy night compared to their usual work: skydancing and pouring wine, giggling and batting their optics and being as beautiful as can be for the nobility to gawk at. There's a strict no touching policy when they're outside of the house, so there's not even going to be any rigorous exercise 🤭 best performer of the night will even get extra allowance!

Ok, enough of my gabbing! You all know where this is going! Thundercracker's family is of course the host. I don't know what the event is. Maybe celebrating an especially important engagement, maybe just an elaborate blowout party to flex on the other nobles. Regardless, anyone who's anyone is there, including the Crown Prince 🤭 this is naturally where the three of them meet, and where Skywarp gets exposed as an outlier.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how. Does he foil an assassination attempt? Is he somehow accidentally drugged and stumbles off to get some air, and Starscream or Thundercracker witness it? Maybe Starscream can just Tell™ that he's different?

So who is in each branch of Artillery's Resistance? We know Sonar, Tremor, Hot Shot, Moonracer, Nightracer, and GorillaBot at Autobot, Rubric and Sunburst at Axellerator, Siege at Maximal, Midnight Express at Caminus (?), Blades at Protectobot, Downshift at Tech Insitute (?), Overrun at Aerialbot, and Smokescreen on his own (?).     By the way, "(?)" means that I didn't know these were schools. ~~~ From the Academy's observations, Artillery, Sonar and Tremor were the founding members, travelling around. During their time at the Maximal Academy, they recruited Siege, Zaptrap, Salvo and Shothole to their ranks While at the Axel Academy, they were able to recruit Rubric, Sunburst, Snowflake and Sablestrike. From the Protectobot Academy, they were able to recruit Blades, and through him Heatwave, Chaser and Boulder. It is known that they were able to recruit Overrun, Starbreak, Warpdrive and Lightningshock. The only known recruit from the Tech Institute, as you have observed, seems to be Downshift. From the Caminus Central, only Midnight Express was recruited, though given its nature as an art focused Academy, he was only a member in an observatory role, rather than recruiting more. Once joining the Autobot Academy, they were initially able to recruit the students Hot Shot, Moonracer, Nightracer and Gorillabot. Following the initial attack by the one we've learnt to be known as King Atlas, the students Beta Maxx and Tap-Out had also joined the group, with Tap-Out's sister Glyph allying with them during that time. By the time of the supposedly future Cybertronian's second attack, their ranks had increased exponentially, with Lightbright, Bomb-Burst, Thunderhoof, Misfire, Bumblebee, Hosehead, Roulette, Windcharger, Vroom and Cybaxx has joined, dragging the unfortunate Scrounge with him, and by the time of the Siege of Acadeimos Treadbolt had also joined their ranks. Furthermore, they seemed to have an outside agent in the form of Smokescreen. That being said, the true depths of Artillery and her resistance's influence was unknown, and given her nature, it was highly unlikely that she's even revealed her whole hand at this point.

I'm pulling an Araki here and going further without looking back! Re-reading through the "Tabaan Accomplishments", I see that I had left in that part of the Tabaan having taken humans to develop a slave race elsewhere...

I've been heavily considering removing that part as, while in the past it helped set up another character of mine for the future, I'm not sure if I want it now...or maybe I do? Sans the slave-race thing, and the Tabaan just have secret knowledge of a primitive sentient race and the Galactic Paragon Alliance (considering renaming) being none the wiser. Or, they aren't even sitting on this secret and instead humanity is discovered by the Sol-Tabaan and are mutually protected by their efforts. If I keep THIS idea, then I'll have to do something entirely different for this other character of mine, which is becoming increasingly harder to reconsider right now.

UGH. A big reason I don't want the slave-race idea is because I don't want to have the GPA just leave the matter alone for the sake of my story; the Alliance would find out about that whole operation and as penance seek to aid this race as well, even if just solely to hunt down any Tabaan that might be there...buuuuuuuut...?

The Paragon, currently, was going to make it to earth by being cosmic flotsam from a destroyed Alliance ship accidently following a wayward warpdrive/jump made by our Sol team, then eventually crashing to earth after taking much, much longer to make planet fall. If I keep the slave-race thing, then...I guess I could still kinda keep the paragon being spacejunk? But then why wouldn't the Alliance follow up on helping us Earthlings?...Maybe they'd see that the majority weren't actually affected, and having learned from the Tabaan, decide it best NOT to interfere with a race's progress into the stars? The Sol-Tabaan could still maybe find a way to stay hidden with stealth technology, and the Paragon still makes its way to earth........BUT FOR HOW LONG IS EVERYONE RESTING? Are the Tabaan conveniently in cryostasis until something like nuclear bombs go off and alert some secret sensors or something? Interesting, except that kind of feels like it might get in the way of any future ideas that take place in the past, but more importantly, what of the Paragon? Surely it would have been found earlier if it were to still land where Alex would otherwise find it, a town was being developed there, after all.

I need to think about this some more, and this is why I wish I was smarter and had a team with me. Or the ability to clone myself.

Info: In the year 4312, the United Systems of Earth faced a split of a semi-autonomous Construction, Demolition and Mining Company that after leaving the USE went on to forge its own Space Civilization based around the company. In the year 4386, the Aegis-Class has entered production with about 1324 produced by year 4403. The class fields a Basic one layer bubble shield to decrease the hitting power of projectiles, as even in this great future pirates became the new terrorist, the shield itself can stop 57mm slugs and slow down up to 6 inch slugs, it however is useless vs 8 inch and above. The ships also were armored with 130mm thick face hardened plates of titanium around vital areas to bounce slugs if the hull is angled. The ships all field a neural plug-in system that allows one man to control the entire ship with great ease, rendering crew largely redundant but it does field at least 5,000 of a Skeleton crew to protect and maintain areas repair drones cannot touch. The ships all mount 5 inch coil guns with the hitting power to shatter small asteroids and destroy small ships in 2-4 shots as well as a few 40mm point-defense mounts to protect against missiles and high speed micro asteroids. They also feature 5 harpoon launchers to reel in loose cargo or to drag a smaller ship into a more viable angle for their guns.

so like I might of become mildly obsessed with this idea and I need to hear more. Are starscream and thundercracker still in shock from having just been saved from an assassin by a courtesan (an outlier no less!) or are they trying to find him? Or is it someone else’s idea to try and find skywarp?

2. So, widely, yes. The two of them are very surprised and for good reason. The entirety of Vos's high society was there and now everyone knows about Skywarp. The party disperses quickly and Thundercracker is swept off by his overprotective grandcarrier to make sure he wasn't hurt. Permafrost also arranges for someone to escort the rest of the courtesans home safely, and word spreads like wildfire that there's an S-class outlier somewhere in the city.

Skywarp is taken in for emergency surgery due to having his mainline slit. He wakes up to an enormous mess waiting for him: his face is all over the evening news, his family is waiting at the hospital, and he's got no less than 20 proposals in his personal inbox from the varying noble houses, offering exorbitant amounts of money and privilege for his hand.

He's terrified, honestly. He feels like a cornered groundling up against the wall with nowhere to run. He took up sex work both because it was a job he could get without an aerie, and because he figured the noble houses wouldn't want him without his purity and chastity in tact, even if his secret was ever discovered. Evidently not. He's the only living mech with a warpdrive and his being a high class prostitute isn't even enough to make him undesirable. There's nowhere in the city he could hide, no other courtesan house he could go to where they wouldn't find him. He could get a total reformat, change his face and body and paint and even his voice, but how long until the surgeon is bribed and rats him out? He could run out of Vos as a last resort, but the ground is no place for a lone seeker. He'd probably be kidnapped and sold onto the black market. Someone might even try to steal his warpdrive to sell. And the other sky cities are out of the question: he wouldn't be welcome in Helex, and Kalis... they'd find him there easily.

There's nowhere he can go. There's nothing he can do. The staff is nice and doesn't let anyone into his room without his permission, and the first person he sees is the house mother. She looks extremely troubled. Of course, she had turned down every offer to buy out his contract in the past, not just because he's so profitable, but because he doesn't want to leave the brothel. She loves having him around, adores all of her employees and treats them with love. This isn't the first time a noble mech has petitioned to take one of her workers and it certainly won't be the last, but this. This is an extremely unique situation, because for the first time, there's multiple noble houses actually fighting over one of her workers. There's a full-scale bidding war going on, and she's got Skywarp's family demanding she relinquish him too.

He stresses to her once again that he has no aerie. They have no right to make decisions about his future now, it falls only to him and the manager. She says that she's turned down every offer so far and will continue to do so, as long as it's what he wants, but... there's one family she can't refuse. That no one can refuse. The royal family, naturally.

She apologizes and says that there's someone he needs to speak to, immediately. Prince Starscream and his fiance, Lord Thundercracker, are here to see him.

TC brought snacks, a few fine energon sweets swiped from the gourmet kitchen in his aerie tower. He thanks Skywarp for saving them, and is deeply apologetic that he was hurt in the process. Sky waves off the concerns, saying it was just the right thing to do. He couldn't just stand there, right? Starscream is a bit sour and broody at first, suspicious that it was an elaborate ploy to curry favor, but Skywarp truly has no interest in marrying into nobility, or in marrying at all. He wants to go back to work and pretend this never happened, but that's not really possible, is it? This is going to follow him forever, and the upper echelons of Vos's society can be crafty. Eventually, someone is going to make him an offer he can't refuse, and whether that's through honest means or not, no one can say. Winglord Hurricane and his two mates have naturally set their sights on him as well: an heir born with such a rare and powerful gift would be the ultimate jewel in their crown. The royal family is naturally pressuring for Starscream to be engaged to him asap.

Starscream and Thundercracker have no interest in dragging this poor mech into their ever-revolving circus of misery or forcing him to trine to them as complete strangers. It's clear as day he wants no part of it, teary eyed and flinching every time a new message pops up. They make him an offer, to buy them all some time: to come work in the palace as Starscream's personal attendant and head of security. After all, he just saved both of their lives. His ability to teleport immediately puts him leagues above any other royal guard. And there's not a noble house in existence that would dare petition the prince's firsthand mech-in-waiting. The royal trine will back off, seeing an engagement as "an eventuality". It's not a perfect solution but it will gain them all some sorely needed breathing room. They'll pay him very well and he very strictly won't be expected to perform any bedroom activities. No sex, no spark sharing, nothing. Just an extra precaution for security, because clearly that assassin was hired by someone.

Again, it's not a perfect solution. Skywarp asks if there's any way he'd still be able to perform his courtesan work, and Starscream regretfully tells him no, probably not. But it will stop the harassment cold, and he won't be forced into anything he doesn't want to do. They'll figure something out, somehow, a way to get him freed from the clawing hands that want to pin him down so badly. Consider it proper repayment for saving them, helping him wrest his freedom back.

Skywarp sullenly agrees when it comes out that, officially, legally, on paper? He's still technically listed as part of his family's aerie. He changed his name when he became a courtesan, but he never officially went to the hall of records to have himself removed. Which means, technically, the patriarchal trine of his family could sign off on a marriage contract without his consent or input if he's in a vulnerable state. Such as being hospitalized. They haven't done so, yet, because they themselves haven't realized the loophole. This is the only out he has.

The announcement that he's been elected as the Crown Prince's personal attendant sparks shock and outrage, but there's nothing anyone can do. While it's not technically law anymore that direct employees of nobility need their master's permission to marry, it's still an intense faux pas to ask. It would be incredibly shameful and embarrassing, to be so desperate they'd go behind royalty's back.

It's only meant to be a temporary arrangement. Starscream tells Skywarp to take all the time he needs to recover from his operation, and when he's ready they'll send a transport to retrieve him from the Heaven House. Later, Skywarp says goodbye to his coworkers and house mother with a heavy spark, thoroughly dreading moving into the palace.

That awkward moment when you take someone on as your body gaurd so he doesn't have to be trined to royalty and you (royalty) fall in love with him.

But seriously, how's Skywarp feeling about all this?

Oh Skywarp is not faring any better than the two noble idiots XD when he was much younger he hated the idea of trining for political reasons: he strictly wanted to fall in love naturally and be with his future mates because he genuinely cared about them, because they made him happy and vice versa. But as he aged he realized that something like that would he impossible if anyone found out about his warpdrive, so he kind of... abandoned the idea of love all together. His work as a courtesan meant he was never without affection or conversation, and he was honestly content with that. His new life was comfortable and he felt fulfilled, so he adopted the idea that he would just never trine. Falling in love would complicate things, after all: he couldn't very well still be a courtesan and be in a committed relationship, and... trining would almost certainly eventually lead to a family. Sparklings. And then there would be the risk of them inheriting his ability to teleport, and then they'd be stuck in the same situation he found himself in

No. No way. He refuses. He's not ever goimg yo find love, he's not ever going to have a family, he's going to skate through life a trine-less, aerie-less seeker and he's got to be fine with that

But then, the dinner party happens. The assassination attempt happens. Starscream and Thundercracker happen. Feelings happen. Seeing the two of them blossom and find joy in each other and the world around each other makes him so proud, he's so happy for them and it's... scary. Its really scary, when he realizes he's growing inappropriately fond of them.

Of course, Skywarp is a master of the performative arts: it never shows on his face, never influences the way he speaks, there's not even the slightest hint to the prince or his fiance that he's started to feel such warmth toward them. He's never been interested in any of his clients on a romantic level before, and he intends to keep it that way. He knows if anyone found out he'd practically be marched down the aisle at gunpoint, and he is not going to trample their trust that way. Starscream and Thundercracker have made it abundantly clear that they're not in the market for a third, and they hate having everyone in Vos constantly throwing themselves at the two of them. That's why they hired Skywarp, to keep them at bay. He's an object of convenience for them, and they've only just started to enjoy their lives: there's no way in hell he's going to spill his guts and burden them with the truth of how he feels. He is not going to be like all the annoying lords and dukes the two of them complain about. The last thing they need is their bodyguard coming onto them out of nowhere. As far as Skywarp is concerned, they are friends and nothing more, and if he were to express his feelings he would be met with disgust and horror. An admission would get them all dragged down to the temple for a marriage ceremony, and he can't force that on them. It wouldn't be fair 😔
