Thinking about a world where Sega and Capcom came together and gave us what we all deserve: a Sonic X Ace Attorney crossover game. I would think it'd lean more into a visual novel style, maybe with some parts more similar to the Investigation games where you play as Sonic in kinda an isometric platforming stage? Honestly that part isn't as fully formed in my mind.

Some sort of Eggman plot ends up getting everyone accidentally sent to the world of AA while he's on the search for some kinda spirit channeling maguffin to aid him in a take-over-the‐world-plot. And of course Phoenix "luckiest unlucky man ever" Wright ends up getting himself stuck right in the middle of it all.

For the first/tutorial case I think Sonic would absolutely need to be the defendant. I would think the events of the case probably take place either the same day of or the day after the Sonic cast gets transported into the world. Something along the lines of Sonic not having an alibi because he was moving too fast for them to see him would be a perfect kinda turnabout twist to combine the logic of both series together imo.

Also throughout the whole game there would 100% be a running gag about people mistaking Phoenix and Sonic for eachother purely because of Wright's hair and Sonic's quills

Case two's defendant is a toss up between Knuckles or Tails imo, I lean more towards Knuckles being the one though for one very important reason. Tails would be perfect for the Ace Attorney 'weird girl assistant' role. Obviously Sonic would be tagging along too (because no way in hell would you not be able to have both protagonists hanging out together) but Tails would be totally down to help and Sonic, while he totally wants to help Knux, is very much in a "I could just break him out and be back before they could even notice he's gone" mood which is causing Phoenix just SO much grief.

I think this would probably break from the general mold of AA and not be a murder case and instead be a larceny case, with Knuckles being accused of the crime due to his digging skills, and the fact that tunnels were found all around the property of the stolen object. This is where we learn about this spirit channeling macguffin through either a Pearl cameo, who we learn through fluff dialogue is now an honorary member of Team Rose due to how well she gets along with them. It turns out to actually be Rouge who stole the macguffin under orders from G.U.N to keep it out of Eggman's hands meaning she doesn't sentenced for the crime since she technically didn't break any laws.

Case three's defendant would be Big the Cat because I think it'd be funny. Something along the lines of Big looking for Froggy and ending up at a totally unrelated murder scene. You play as Apollo in this case because he's my favorite boy and I think it'd be funny to watch him struggle with having to deal with Big. Just a general silly case full of wacky crossover fun before getting more seriously into the plot with the final two cases. Also the Chaotix are there because you can't have a mystery game without detective. Are the helping? Are they against you? Not really sure. But it'd be a massive missed opportunity to NOT include them.

Amy would be case four's defendant, with her piko piko hammer being found at the scene and Omega's body being found in pieces. That's right! I think it'd be interesting to have a named character be the victim of one of these cases, but obviously I'm not gonna kill anyone off. I think Omega would be the best pick though since he's a robot and it'll take time for Tails to fix him from the totally wrecked state he's in. I think it'd be fun to have Shadow as a key witness in this case, believing Amy did it. He doesn’t want to suspect she did something like this, but claims he saw her in the act of tearing Omega apart with her hammer, take the macguffin and then bolt.

It goes without saying it's obviously Eggman trying to frame Amy for this, using Metal Sonic to frame her by using his shape shifting powers from Heros to disguise himself as her, take apart Omega to retrieve the macguffin, and get it to Eggman. Leading into the final case.

The final case would be a continuation from there with out heros all joining together to try and stop Eggman from using the machine being powered by the Macguffin. Maybe something about Phoenix needing to come with because his magatama is able to counteract it...? Idk. Get that mandatory Edgeworth cameo in there with it being revealed that him and Franziska were teaming up with Team Dark the whole game to help put a stop to things (Giving us fun Phoenix + Sonic and Edgeworth + Shadow parallels). Of course the heros manage to put a stop to things and everyone goes back to their own world yadda yadda happy ending.

This came out way longer than I expected haha but I hope y'all like the concept! If I had the patience I'd totally write this as a fan fic but I know I don't so if anyone wants to take my idea and expand on it absolutely do it! Just let me know so I can read it too. :3

Chisaki was wasted

With the MHA manga ending and getting an end to Chisaki’s story I have just a couple of things to say.  Most importantly wtf was that. Fortunately in every other piece of media I chose to consume my favorite character is usually one of the main ones or at the very least they are a fan favorite, originally when I started to watch MHA I fell in love with Bakugou but then everything changed when I saw season four and laid my eyes on Mr. Evil Bird Man. I was not expecting Horikoshi to dive into characters who really despised quirks and their existence. It was a fresh perspective on the series and as we got to learn more about  Chisaki I started to understand him more and more. I know fans of the show sometimes make jokes about being reincarnated into the show and being born with a hammer for a head. At first it would be fun to go into your favorite series, but the implications of that universes rules can seriously mess you up. For example Dabi’s flames burn him. Quirks are not always a blessing they can be a curse, a sickness. 

I believe Chisaki was the first character to bring this up maybe besides characters like Skinner showing that he was bullied for his. Quirks are terrifying when you think about their potential effects, Eri accidentally killed her parents when she got hers and Shigaraki killed his when he manifested an altered version of overhaul. This brings up my next point. Why did nobody dwell on the fact that decay is the first half of overhaul?? Dose this not imply that Chisaki was experimented on as a kid as well? Is that why he is fine doing it to Eri since he clearly shows no remorse to her for his actions, only Pops? Is there some sort of trauma with him and that that he never addressed so he believes that what hypothetically happened to him was okay? Is that why he doesn’t care that he did the same pain onto Eri? This is where my issue lies. Chisaki was used as nothing more than a plot point to push the story further. We barley know anything about him. Why is he the way he is? There are so many unanswered questions. 

Chisaki was used to introduce Nighteye, the big three and Eri’s quirk so there was a way to defeat All For One. He doesn’t get expanded on past the bare minimum which I think is insane for a show that has as many flashbacks that it has. The time line we have is that he was in one of All For Ones orphanages, he was somehow on the streets, Pops picked him up, he got into fights growing up defending his fathers honor and he was never really stopped from continuing to do so, then he’s a grown adult and we see his crazy plan being told to his father and he freaks out to then Kai needing to please and repay him so bad he did with anyway. Did Pops not give him enough love and reassurance growing up? Why did he feel the need to go out of his way to help his family. We know the Yakuza was weaker, were they being mistreated? If so why were they allowed to exist if they were just going to be mistreated?

Next thing I want to talk about is Pops and Kai’s reunion, I’m so upset that Pops was somehow woken up via technology. They should have just left him in the coma if Chisaki wasn’t going to get his quirk back. Now I like how Chisaki didn’t get his quirk back but it would have been so easy for him to with the way other characters quirks evolved, like Toga being able to use other people’s quirks of the blood she took, why couldn’t Overhaul turn into creating matter or having skin touch not just hands touch? How hard was it for Pops to be one of the civilians Shigaraki killed and Kai to go into such a panic that his quirk evolves and he helps the heros or goes after Shigaraki himself??? Which brings me to my next hot take. The only reason people hate Overhaul is because we got to meet his victim personally. Shigaraki, Dabi, Toga, all killed and hurt others but their crimes get overlooked because we never knew the names, faces, or anything really about the people who’s lives were taken. I’m not excusing Overhauls behavior whatsoever because the whole Eri thing was insane. I don’t understand why he couldn’t have just taken her hair, or sweat or something. Why blood??? If he needed her DNA it’s literally all over her, you really needed her blood? Okay crazy. ANOTHER THING THATS CRAZY IS POPS COMMENT. What do you mean Hari should have done better? This guy seems to love putting his problems onto other people, Kai is Hari’s problem, Eri was Kai’s problem. Dude you are his Dad maybe if YOU parented him he wouldn’t have turned out like this. Hari was his somewhat equal you had power not him.

Another thing people get mad about is the killing of Magne, she attacked first, just saying.

Lastly him losing his arms was beautiful irony. Yakuza getting fingers cut off for messing up in missions, him cutting off Compresses arm, him wanting to destroy Quirks. Shigaraki was a twisted genius when cutting off Overhauls arms. I’m not mad about him getting the consequences of his actions. I’m just upset he was never expanded on and the fandom collectively hating his surface level character when he had and has so much potential.

WARNINGS ⚠️ BRIEF VIOLENCE TO READER / GUNS / BLOOD MENTION

As a nomad, you were traveling from place to place in Romania. This winter has been especially cruel to you unfortunately. Snow blizzards were repeatedly hitting your trail, forcing you to stay longer in cities, towns, and villages than you anticipate.

But you were off to a great adventure finally, no snow or rain while walking through the forests. Even if it did you had the tools necessary to survive such conditions.

Coming up on a mountain side, you see the view of a village with a castle overlooking everything. You get excited at the thought of finally reaching civilization and possibly warming up next to a fire. You could restock on supplies and water too.

Unbeknownst to you, the village has a ring of lycans that patrol the village from any outsiders, or villagers who wish to leave.

Sliding down the layered snow in the mountains, you could see the faint outlines of crouched figures in the tree line below, obviously waiting for your descending figure to reach them.

Your stomach flips at the sight and you halt your slide down. They can sense you’ve noticed them and reveal themselves in the overcast sunlight. Growling and snarling as they creep up to you.

As a nomadic woman, you couldn’t risk traveling without some sort of protection. You carried a shot gun, metal staff and a knife on yourself. Usually the sight of your shotgun hanging from your back is what set certain people away from you. But these creatures were different. You thought they were locals at first. They looked human enough but reacting nothing less than savage predators. Their teeth chipped and covered in blood. Arms and hands covered in dirt and blood. Skin having an unnatural color.

Firing a few warning shots didn’t scare them away. In fact, it made them even more determined to tear you to shreds. You fired again at one who got too close to you. He stumbles back but is quickly back up.

You consider this to be a losing situation if you just stand here and waste ammo. You decide to run and find better grounds to aim and defend yourself.

Big mistake though, because you just run into another group of them.

Cursing yourself, you find the next best thing to do, you start climbing a tree to get range with your shotgun. You kill about 3 of them before you reload. As you were grabbing ammo one of them jumps up to your level and grabs the gun from your grasp, flinging it into the bushes far away.

Finally reaching that point in fight or flight mode where you’re gonna do everything to survive, you start swinging at them. A few get knocked down and you manage to stab some in the face making them go limp. But there are still too many.

You’re panting for breath and hanging onto hope that someone heard your gunfire and come to you.

Oh someone heard you alright, but nobody that would be on your side.

“What seems to be all the commotion here boys?”

You blink at the sight of a man, casually walking through to the scene of you surrounded by 3 lycans twice your size. Carrying a giant hammer on his shoulder with a freshly lit cigar in his opposite hand. He doesn’t even spare you a glance, thing you’re just one of the many terrified villagers wanting to escape Mother Miranda’s grasp.

You notice that the Lycans see him and acknowledge his presence, but they don’t attack him. You conclude that he is somewhat of a leader for these mutated beings….

“Make it quick, I have a meeting to get to..”

What the fuck? He’s not going to help you? Now you’re pissed.

Before they rush you again, you take the knife within your coat and throw it at the man. The knife would’ve hit a bullseye within the side of his head, but it was stopped.

The lycans for some reason halt their actions to storm you. Just guarding you against a tree.

You gap at how the knife stops in mid air just hanging. The man turns towards you this time, finally looking at you. He tilts his head slightly, making his black glasses slide down to reveal his golden eyes, looking you up and down.

He grins, pushing his glasses back up with the cigar hand.

“Oh, you’re not local…”

His accent is so strange. It’s nothing like the dialects or foreign accents you’ve encountered before.

“Please help me, I’m just trying to pass through.” You plead, you’re not giving up your metal staff but you speak with him to see if you can actually make it out of this.

Your cheeks were flushed from the fighting and exhaustion of traveling, your adrenaline making your heartbeat pump faster and faster. Your (h/c) hair was sticking to your forehead and neck from sweat. You were very nice to look at.

Your facial features were different from what Karl was used to seeing in the village, he liked that. A traveling woman? All alone? And good looking? How was his luck so great?

“Nobody gets to pass through. Normally this is the end of the line for you poor travelers. But I think I can make an exception this once..”

Throwing his cigar out, he brings up his hand to snap his fingers. Before you could react, one of the monsters closes in and disarms you, while another one comes to knock you out.

“W-Wait!-“

The lycan strikes you against your face, hard. You sway in the others hold as your vision fades.

Against the odds of these creatures, you held your own pretty well in Karl’s opinion. Way more than any other riff raff that’s come into this village.

You start to drop and the lycan releases you. But you never hit the snow. Karl catches you and hoists you onto his shoulder like you weighed nothing.

“You’ve got grit, kid. I’ll spare you. Let’s see if Mother Miranda will allow me to keep you…”

Superhero/Supervillain AU: All Sawada Tsunayoshi wants to do is help people. Considering his occupation as a Vongola Inc. superhero, you'd think that wouldn't be much of a problem. You'd be wrong. [Of course 'people' isn't supposed to include wanted supervillains. But it's hardly Tsuna's fault that the training manual doesn't specify that, is it.] Along the way, he learns to help himself.

this series is just so, so good! all the works in it are simply *chef's kiss*. the worldbuilding is amazing, the characters so in character and complex and with so many layers and depth to them. also it's obviously planned down to the last detail, so it's incredibly fun to follow along and try to piece the puzzle along with the various characters' pov.

A mysterious pillar of ice drops out of the sky and fuses with the grounds of Yuuei. It's not the strangest thing to happen, especially for this school. But the boy, frozen within, is strange - yes, very strange indeed.

haven't read chapter 2 yet, but i have no doubt it won't disappoint whenever i'll be able to get to it. as for chapter 1? a fucking masterpiece. it's a khr x bnha crossover, and i don't usually read crossover, but boy, am i glad this is one of the few i gave a chance to haha.

it's been a while since i've reread this one, but i still have the reaction of "oh, this one was so, so good!!" whenever i come across it lol, so yeah. what i do remember is i absolutely love the depiction of hibari in this one as well as his dynamic with tsuna. also little miss bunny is one of my favorite khr writers, they're so good at crafting the different aus they come up with and making them feel real while still keeping the characters in character, i love it.

Target Acquired: Wicked Jester by poorasdirt

Colonnello has always been a military man. He understood what led to him being cursed. He understood why the others had been cursed. Or, well, why most of the others had been cursed. Skull's motivations had always been a mystery to him. Now that the curse had been lifted, Colonnello could finally sit back and try to puzzle it out. If only it were that easy. Or Colonnello's instincts were telling him something wasn't right and curiosity only kills cats.

i know for a fact i've already recc this one before, and i'm doing it again because it's just that good. <3 it's another one heavy on worldbuilding, which is funny because usually worldbuilding isn't exactly my thing, but how can i say no to them when they're all so well written like this. anyway it's a skull-centric fic through nello's pov, so of course i was all for it zfsegfdsds.

Starstruck by Little_Miss_Bunny

All Tsuna wanted was his siblings to be happy. So, he didn't see a problem attending a fan signing for one of the hottest bands to date, even if he had no clue who they were. He did start seeing a problem when more idols started appearing in his life. It got even worse when they just wouldn't leave him alone.

i love this one so, soo much! this is my favorite work of theirs. it's currently at 153k words tho, so not too sure how to summarize it lol, but just trust me on this one! it's more on the lighthearted one compared to their other works, tho still touch on serious stuff and do it well, but i'd still consider it a comfort (and funny) fic.

another one from little miss bunny that i love so much!! maybe or maybe not because nello is the first arco to appear, so there's certainly no shortage of nello & tsuna interactions. more seriously tho zrfsdfds, this is another one where the worldbuilding has obviously been given a lot of care, and the characters are written so well, tsuna first of all, and it's just super fun to read.

Forever Family, Forever Vongola by AnimationNut

They're a group of insane, energetic, destructive and hyper people. But they also love each other, whether some are willing to admit it or not. Family sticks together, through thick, thin, and crazy.

the ultimate platonic/familial khr fic! with how many chapters it already has (57 for 195k words), you're bound to find more than one you'll love. some are connected, most are not. some are lighthearted fluff, some more on the heavy, serious side of things. but all chapters are written so well, and at their cores it's all about how much these guys love each other.

another incredible series that is just so, soo good! it's about tsuna not wanting to become vongola decimo and doing what he can so it won't happen. no happy endings yet, but the series isn't marked complete yet either, so we'll see.

i haven't reread this one in a long while, so i honestly... don't quite remember how it goes zqdsfds, but i still remember it was an amazing read all the same!! i mean, the summary alone is so good? also this writer is one of the best in the fandom imo, so yeah.

Reborn is not yet the world's greatest hitman, not quite a proper Sky, and definitely doesn't want these ridiculous Guardians that he keeps running into.

sky arco reborn who does not want to be the sky arco? it's just as chaotic and funny as you might think zqefdddsf. the interactions in this are absolute gold, and it's just such a fun ride to see all the bonding happen despite reborn's best efforts lmao. also ourliazo is another one of my favorite khr writers. the way they write the arco and tsuna (and every other khr characters tbh)? absolute peak. and then you add their humor, and i will simply never be tired of their writing.

heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. i actually had forgotten i had this one in my bookmarks, as well as the fic as a whole tbh 😅, but it all instantly came back to me like a punch in the gut. there's so much love in this one guys. the kind that hurts and the kind that heals and the kind that makes it all worth it in the end.

Forgotten Memories of a Broken Soldier by Maintenant

The Arcobaleno arrive at their collective house after their yearly meeting turned mission. Skull had been left there to cook them a warm meal for their return, seeing as he is useless in a mission, but it is not Skull they find when they return. Rather, it is, but it is not. For this Skull has cold eyes and harsher threats, and he doesn't know the rest of the Arcobaleno. Perhaps more importantly, the Arcobaleno find, is that they don't know Skull.

i love this one for the ending and the build up to it. it's a wip, but the first chapter can be read as a one shot (imo) so it works well. it's a skull is harry potter fic, and like i already said i don't usually read crossover fics, but this is another one i'm glad i gave a chance to.

Tide-Line Blue, a 2005 anime which should feel made especially for me: i love one-season post-apoc anime. it's available on tubi (which is where i found it dicking around for something to watch) but i'm not really sure why it's so difficult to find videos of it on the actual internet.

Tide-Line Blue is set after an environmental disaster later called the "Hammer of Eden" has submerged 90% of the Earth under water and taken six billion lives. The series begins fourteen years after that event with the new and remaining countries being brought together under the New United Nations. However, Gould, a renegade submarine captain wishes to use military force to create peace in the new world order, while Aoi, the secretary-general of the New UN, wishes to use diplomacy, and a boy named Keel finds himself caught up in the middle of it all.

unfortunately this was VERY bad at laying out and explaining the political drama driving the plot. we do not find out Why the rogue submarine captain went rogue until the second to last episode. and not in a teasing raising the stakes way. we spend So much time with this captain, and his decisions feel quite frankly nonsensical a lot of the times without this EXTREMELY important context we do not find out until a halfhearted flashback when he is remembering something. never is this communicated to one of our main POV characters. ever!

i also had to throw my disbelief into the next county bc an astronaut is trapped up there for seven years on a private imaging-based satellite. that man would be dead. it takes the combined powers of many nations and thousands of engineers to keep the ISS at "not currently exploding". and part of that is bc she is very old and only has a little bit of a taste for blood (unlike skylab which actively tried to kill her astronauts at every opportunity) but ONE guy for SEVEN YEARS is still able to make daily transmissions???? that man should be exploded by now. or in organ failure. the human body is not meant to be in space and does not like being in space, as a general rule.

there's a mom that's just. missing. and this is not particularly remarked upon or relevant. i guess she's off doing her own thing? or maybe dead? very unclear. not important but did annoy me.

very pretty pilot episode, and i had a fun time thinking about the ways people survive during massive sea rise, how communications networks without satellites work (i assume there's a lot of bouncing stuff off the moon but the debri cloud around earth looks fucking gnarly in the outer space segments). really do wish this one was better but it is incoherent at best a lot of the time. "eeeee big ship lots of loving shots of instrumentation" only gets me so far

It’s rather silly to assume anyone who likes Totally Spies is a sex criminal and needs to be locked, nor does fetishes make anyone a bad person. Totally Spies does not suck because it has tons of fetishes in it. There are many great works that have sexual or perverted themes in it; such as Beyond te Valley of the Dolls, Fellini Satyricon, Caligula the Ultimate Cut, etc. And some are even fairly entertaining (not because of sexual appeal) otherwise, such as Caligula’s original trainwreck 1979 version, some of the later Hammer Horror films, the Friday the 13th series, etc. No, Totally Spies sucks because of two reasons. One, is that it’s the creation of adult men, adult men who wrote, draw, and animated teenage girls in fetishistic situations. Y’now, some states would classify “teenagers” as “children”, and almost all classifies teenagers as “minors”, it’s why it’s illegal to have impure relations with them in pretty much every state. If they had just done pretty much ANYTHING, like set the series in college from the start, or have them be fully adult spies this wouldn’t have been so bad. Now one could say “Oh this is fiction” however propaganda is a thing (whether intentional or not); it’s why many who watch Steven Universe are under the stupid belief that anyone could be redeemed no matter how horrible they can be (but that’s another case for another time), and when you consider people like Chris Savino and John Kricfalusi; the latter of which drew underage women in skimpy outfits for a shitty special… and before someone mentions something like the Friday the 13th series, well for movies like these technically the “teenagers” are all played by grown adults (probably in their 20s), so really they’re sexualizing young adults’ bodies so that’s not so bad there. But in animation only the voices are truly adult, otherwise it’s grown adults (most commonly men) drawing and animating young kids/teenagers bodies in… questionable material. And even then the creator of the tv show Euphoria, Sam Levinson (which depicts several sexual scenes with its teenage characters) is under fire for some creepy vibes to him, so… The second, and less serious reason, is that ultimately the fetishes are ALL Totally Spies has for it. The aforementioned works above at least have a little more to them than just sex stuff, be it F13’s hilarious kills and sympathetic murderer, the overall insanity of Caligula’s production, British stars, etc. Like let’s just say for this moment that shows like Kim Possible, Winx Club, and W.I.T.C.H. have tons of fetishes in them. Well the reason they’re not known for that is because there’s more to them than that. They have fun characters and plots, decent stories, etc. But what does Totally Spies have? Nothing really. This is just one of many dime a dozen empty cartoons. Not helped by the characters. Y’now… alongside the simple fact of “just make them adults from the start”, if there was just one queer sensibility to any of the cast or themes of this show I MIGHT have been on board with it. However Sam, Clover, Alex, Jerry, and Mandy for that matter are some of the most mainstream heteronormative patriarchal assholes on screen. Those scenes where they fight over what boy of the week they want to date, stupid popularity contests, and the girls getting bossed around by a stupid incompetent old man who’s not fit to run a world security agency? Sorry, that is sooo 2000s ago. Compare that to shows like the Owl House, Amphibia, the new She-Ra and Harley Quinn series which are not afraid to depict queer relationships and they all kick ass. Couple that with some bizarre messages- two episodes in the series does the mean girl character try to make amends and be an okay person and both the characters and series say “No, having a bully torment and try to ruin your life is a GOOD thing really!”- and you got what is certainly NOT one of the best 2000s animated cartoons.

1, Read the post you made about Athenas law stuff, and you could just have it be that Athenas an overachiever and reads ahead in the books so to speak; in that she studies law things on the side before she gets taught them in class so she can be prepared early. This would probably happen if she finishes work early in a class, like she got done with her assignments and has a half hour to kill so she continues teaching herself law stuff instead of just relaxing for a minute. Or she learns stuff when she has time off "for fun" (<kinda reminds me of one of my friends, who taught herself trigonometry over a 4 day weekend for fun, but she actually likes math because whenever I make a friend it's usually the most neurodivergent person in the room, {<aka the only person who understands me properly} sooo. Not quite Athena Ig)

2, I would help with figuring out school stuff, but I am not old enough to be in college yet, and new Mexico is rated 50 in the country for education, so I'm not the best source I suppose. It's ranked 50 for pre k - 12 but higher for higher education, cus college is decently good here actually, not like I'd know from experience tho. It's also ranked 50 for public safety and internet access :D, yippee /sarc our highest ranking is a 4 though, because we have very little pollution evidently. :]

3, I feel like I would probably not have learned anything as a child if I didn't like learning, cuz I taught myself probably at least half of what I know (which is why I know far too many nature facts and far too little about stuff like how to take care of a home, or how to find the area of a circle. No clue what a cosine means cuz I did not care enough to learn about that properly, but I can tell you like 30 facts about flamingos)

4, With the whole history thing it reminded me of something. I remember back in middle school I would procrastinate on quite a few assignments, and I would actually spend a long time watching YouTube videos that were pretty educational. Instead of doing my math work I would be watching a video on the Irish potato famine or something with my headphones in, because I didnt want to cause problems in class or anything, I just couldn't focus. I got good grades back then because it would get to be like the day before a project was due, and I would just get it all done at once, turn it in, and apparently do good work when I'm panicking and doing an entire assignment at far-too-late-o'clock, but nowadays I don't get good grades. Because. My brain throws hammers at me when I exist, so I use up all my daily "being functional points" on doing things like eating food and generally appearing like a person and not a stressed out bedraggled coyote someone just dragged in from a rainstorm. So its possible Athena also did that kinda thing, and was learning history in class when she wasn't supposed to, or if she was either a better student than me/ too scared of consequences, she would just do that after she got all her work done.

-🌻 (my Easter was kinda sucky, this morning I just kinda awkwardly sat next to my breakfast for like 2 hours instead of eating it because the concept of putting the nice food that I enjoy into my mouth was not something my brain could get behind evidently, so I just put it in the fridge, then I went to IHOP with my family. And proceeded to sit there in the car as my parents argued while we sat outside waiting for like 25 minutes cuz apparently everyone wants to go to IHOP on Easter for some reason. I mean something that's interesting is that it snowed recently even through it's the middle of April. {Our seasons are hot, actually predictably nice going into chilly, cold and sad and grey and dry, and chaos/mud} but today it was like 60° out {16~C} and while I was sitting in the parking lot I could see the air wigging from heat above the cars in front of us, with snow on the mountains in the background. Kinda weird! Neat. The snow sticks around on the mountains cuz they're colder than the basin that Albuquerque sits in, due to being higher up. And the temperature can range so drastically cuz there's barely any humidity and NM generally is very high in altitude, so the sun can blast us and heat things up very fast, but the air doesn't retain heat so it also cools down really fast. Also the lowest altitude I'm regularly at is when I'm in Albuquerque, which is like 5000 something feet in the air, and the highest city in Germany is like 3000 feet in the air, so assuming you're in a city and not at the peak of a mountain or something, I'm at least 2000 feet above you at any given moment. I don't know much about the traditions in other countries or honestly even in other families from mine, but we have egg hunt, chocolate, and the Easter bunny. There's also a more openly religious tradition where you make a lamb-shaped cake in reference to Jesus but that depends on how religious your family is ig. A Sign Of Affection Episode 4: What Kind of Voice

Boy oh boy there is a lot to talk about with this episode. Incredible production, incredible boards, incredible plot and character developments- it's got it all. So much so that it's hard to really put it all into words, but I'll do my best.

First off, let me talk storyboards. Yuta Murano has been insane with this series, boarding every episode so far- and he's been killing it, hell, even carrying it on his back (since he's the series director as well).

Anyways, point being that Murano has been incredibly intelligent in regards to boarding with this episode. How, you might ask? Spacing. The whole episode really hammers home the idea of space, both around characters but also between them. Murano leans heavily into the wider layouts like you can see above, but similarly uses first person perspective to create a strong awareness of the space between characters to help provide more feeling to Yuki and Itsuomi's relationship.

One super easy example is Kyouya and Itsuomi's late-night interaction. The combined use of first person perspective between the pair, as well as the wider shots between to show the empty space around them, really highlights their nature as friends incredibly well. He also really likes using doors and whatnot to frame the characters, and I love it.

Hell, I'll take it a step further too. See how Itsuomi is able to see Kyouya's face, but Kyouya can't see Itsuomi's? That's intentional, and shows how open Kyouya is vs how closed Itsuomi is. Very very great work.

And then there's this example with Shin and Emma. It's really subtle, but we never get a first person shot from Shin within. Even with Emma's singular first person shot he's slightly off center. The whole interaction is framed as Shin being there for a reason other than what Emma feels he's there for. His body language and demeanor, the way he reacts to Emma's words, there's considerable distance between the pair, and that gets illustrated very easily with the table in front of them.

Of course, my favorite pieces of this are with Yuki and Itsuomi. No barriers, no space between the pair, all of their shots really sell the idea of the empty space that exists around them as a pair.

I also just love that Murano has Itsuomi's personality down so well. He always strikes the exact same pose when focusing on talking with Yuki

Speaking of him, I love how catty he got with Oushi earlier on in the episode. Really fun addition to his very playful but reserved personality.

But lets rewind and dig a little deeper into that whole sequence.

Oushi, once again, really shows off his true colors a little too blatantly when talking with Yuki. The easiest comparison to make is the fact that Oushi is hitting Yuki's head while Itsuomi only ever pats it. Combined with the sign language for "cute", you really get a grasp on the challenges that face Oushi. Does he not pat her head because he knows what it means in sign language? It's hard to say, but paired with how he plays with her hair I think it's pretty easy to say that he does have some awareness of those things, and it probably comes from Itsuomi.

Anyways, moving forward again. While questionable behavior that does highlight Itsuomi's more... challenging side, I might say, the interaction between him and Oushi is really really great.

Firstly, because Oushi tries to use his familiarity with Yuki and sign language to put down the people around her so that he can take the top spot, but also because Itsuomi claps back and completely destroys him.

Of course, when it rains, it pours, so there's plenty of other character interactions in this episode.

Really, it's something that I'm incredibly critical about with my slice of life and romance series. The world itself is very wide, and people have more than a few friends. Being able to express that while preserving the core intent of the series can be challenging, but it makes a massive difference in overall quality and breadth.

And A Sign of Affection aces that aspect. Kyouya and Rin, whatever Emma's got going on with Itsuomi, then of course Oushi as well. There's a solid cast of characters that exist to surround Itsuomi and Yuki, and even more that exist in the periphery. It makes it feel so much more alive, and creates far more interesting dynamics that can ebb and flow based on which characters appear and where.

Though obviously, the main focus is Yuki and Itsuomi here, so that's where the majority of the effort goes, and it's entirely worth it. Just even simple things like Oushi only being seen in a crowd today vs Itsuomi being isolated when with her.

You might say that's just how the visuals shake out, but obviously a Costco isn't ever going to be that quiet so the idea is that because of Yuki, the focus is on Itsuomi so we don't really see much of any background characters.

Add on top the incredible sound design, and in this episode voice acting, and it's just a flawless experience. We as viewers experience the world in a surprisingly different fashion to Yuki, and the episode highlights that with things like the tone of Itsuomi's voice.

Incredibly simple and small details pepper this episode and the story at large, but they end up insanely important to comparing and contrasting the viewer's experience against Yuki's, challenging us to think and view things through her (very cute) eyes.

Anyways, let's put the icing on the cake here with animation and other work.

We know that this production is hand-obsessed due to the sign language, but that quality extends to other aspects. Being a very reserved and casual series there's not a lot of room for impressive animation, but the episode still finds way to show off with cuts like Shin cutting hair here.

Similarly, 2D vehicles? It's really a whole other flex. The requirements for keeping such a detailed object on model, all while in motion is really really incredible. And there's a surprising amount of those cuts in the episode.

Overall, A Sign of Affection continues to hit home run after home run with each episode, and delivers an experience that is only possible because of the medium. Creative to the max, it does everything in its power to elevate the source and create and entirely unforgettable experience. Saturdays really have been great this Winter season.

WHY GOD WHY COULDN’T THEY TREAT ALL THEIR CHARACTERS WITH RESPECT. The source material is endlessly fascinating and riddled with interesting storylines that can be followed and or improved upon(within reason) . Like you have the knight without honor whose only true light is a queen who he can never have. A woman whose life is tied to the men around her, which is her circumstance but she does nothing to try to help or ruin them but laments her part in everything. And i’m not saying the story can’t be built upon the relationship between rhaenyra and alicent.

It’s a great place to start. START. It can’t be just about them. Why don’t we see Jaeharys and the pressure he feels as a bastard and a possible future king. What about halaenas mental state her visions, and the fact she lost a whole child. And how come all of a sudden Aemond is kinslaying psychopath whose only goal is to become king, is there no internal conflict. Where’s that remorse and horror we saw at the end of season 1. Aegon is being made fun of every second and being ignored (and before u come at me i know he is a pos rapist, not defending him) nobody sees him as a threat even though he is QUITE LITERALLY THE KING.

Alicent is on her sad girl bs. And I LIKE ALICENT. Do you know how hard it is to make me dislike a character I originally loved. I thought her character was heading into an interesting direction feeling guilt and remorse about her actions because it is against everything she believes in. Because AGAIN they have hammered into the viewers that she is a religious. But she just becomes whishy washy. And not an active participant.

And don’t get me started on our titular protagonist a one Rhaneyra Targaryen. Have I mentioned my dislike at the obvious bias towards team black. Also why are there teams why is everything black and white. I don’t know about yall but I thought the whole point was there is no good and evil and that killing your family for a crown is wrong and morally unjust so therefore anyone participating in the war (as in anyone who has a choice, not the small folk forced to fight and stuff) is already not the greatest person. So i don’t know why they are acting like Rhaneyra is the goddamn messiah. They’re trying to make her a Daenerys variant. She’s not Dany and she shouldn’t be forced to be. Like their trying to make her a reasonable person who only wants best for people around her but she is also someone actively participating in a war with DRAGONS and as everyone keeps repeating there isn’t a war as bloody as one with dragons. And look i love a little hypocrisy in my characters i eat it up but this is ridiculous. You want a war so be in it. And if you don’t want to work with some people tough shit, you need others to get things done. And god forbid they challenge you on anything.

And look I tried to ignore it as much as i could but, do they hate men. Like genuinely asking, because every man in this show with the exception of like 2 characters is immensely unlikeable. And i’m not saying you can’t have unlikeable men. But like it’s a bit of a pattern. The women are the ones trying to avoid war and the men are all gung ho to lose their lives. Like i think they were trying to be feminist by making the women the only reasonable ones and men unreasonable. But they were so feminist that it came around to being misogynistic. Which i didn’t think could happen. And this being pseudo medieval time period with misogyny and all that it seems like there are parts where they are just like forcing patriarchy and other parts it does not seem to exist. Like equality is the norm and patriarchy is the outlier. Like there were women in charge of houses, which is not abnormal in of itself but like they don’t explain it. Like they could’ve been like the lord of that house is ill and his lady-wife takes care of everything. Or been like she’s in the fighting because she has a talent for it and is a bastard. Like I don’t know if any of you have seen the show Black Sails but one of the characters Eleanor basically runs pirate island and that doesn’t make sense because it the 1700’s but it’s explained that her father put her in charge because she was raised there and had a mind for business. And I know it’s a sad thing to be like a woman can only have power in proximity to a man. But like aren’t they going for realism, that’s what was so intriguing about the game of thrones universe. How people given shit circumstances rise above them. And some of these people happen to be women. If this was like one of those comfy fantasy with like fantasy creatures and like loose plots and there aren’t really rules and modern sensibilities are ingrained then I could dig it. Like yah you go girl be a pirate and you be a merchant and you are an advisor to the king. abut this isn’t that. And I can already see how an argument can be made that the entire show is overcoming the circumstances of your birthright being taken because you are a woman. Which I will reply that like I said earlier in order to do that they need the women to have agency and push for it or let it go. Which is options that Rhaneyra has.

And maybe i’m wrong and all those loose plot threads and bizarre character choices will payoff in season 3 and i’ll be the weirdo who doubted them.

i love jegulus & haters can suck it

saw this reddit post from last month and got really heated and then this rant came to be

it's crazy to me how people who are in the mauraders fandom (specifically more canon-mauraders fans) have such a strong hatred towards jegulus. first of all literally please grow up it's a fucking fictional world about wizards first and foremost. IT'S NOT REAL ANYWAY. but like y'all are shitting on people having fun with people creating characterizations for a character(s) that in all honesty, jk rowling only used to further her plot to help the good guys and were nothing more than black and white bad guys or random names of people who were friends but didn't matter enough to be anything more than names.

the fact that the one main issue some have with jegulus is that there is no way that regulus and james would never have interacted with each other which is honesty, truly a stupid take. even during harry's years we see him interact with people who are in the years above and below him so to think that james never interacted with regulus at any point during their time at hogwarts is ridiculous. not only would he have met regulus during his second year because honestly to think that sirius would not have introduced his younger brother to his friends is kinda dumb and you obviously don't have a good sense of who he is as a character in my opinion. sirius would still have treated regulus as his little brother, would have wanted to share his friends with him. i don't care how they differed later on, it didn't happen over night and it probably didn't happen until after regulus started at hogwarts and got more and more indoctrinated with the other slytherins.

now later on when regulus starts to get involved with the death eaters, and as he goes through his time in slytherin yeah they probably didn't interact much. BUT again, who is to say they didn't end up in the library at the same time, they didn't interact with each other through smack talk about quiddich, weren't in similar clubs, hell weren't in prefect meetings together. you truly act like they will never have seen each other ever, that james and regulus will never have said a single thing to each other.

another point jegulus haters love to try and make is that sirius hated regulus and that regulus (barty and evan too) are bad people. in canon they killed people, they were death eaters. first of all again it's fanfiction, it does not have to have a damn ounce of whatever is in canon. second is that there is not one time in the entire series that sirius says that he hates regulus. he says that he was naive and believed everything his parents said. THAT is canon. THAT is what can be literally found written by the terf herself. also to reduce regulus (and again barty and evan) to their actions like "they killed people" and that's all there is to say about that is dumb. yes in canon, they killed people. evan and barty are confirmed to have killed people. regulus with the fact that he was a death eater most likely killed people. that is not anything we negate as people who like jegulus. what we do though is take that and create characters who are able to fucking have more depth than the bad shit they did after having been indoctrinated into a cause that they were made to believe was the correct way of thinking since literal birth and then continued to get hammered into them for years and years at school and at home. like yeah they were kinda shitheads, but let me be honest, barty is always portrayed as a shithead, he's a little crazy, gets into trouble, might have some messed up morals, he's also got a shit home life, his dad kinda sucks and that doesn't mean he can't be a good friend, doesn't mean he can't love someone, can't be loved, can't be silly, can't be smart. the exact same thing happens for evan. he's the same as regulus raised in a pureplood slytherin household. like what else was he going to think? but again does that mean he can't have more depth, doesn't deserve love? can't be a good friend? can't be silly? then we've got regulus. yeah he can be cold, take no shit, be kind of pretentious, but you know what he can also be babygirl. he can love, he can have love, he can be anxious, he can change his mind after learning that the way that he was brought up was shit. they all can need comfort and need their friends and ride or die for their friends. like none of that negates either point.

now the biggest thing that gets to me and makes me really heated is when people shit on jegulus and say it doesn't make sense then have the gall to like drarry but then say the paralle between jegulus and drarry is wrong.....how the actual fuck does that makes sense. regulus and draco are so much like each other. not only because narcissa is someone regulus grew up around and was also bought into the same bullshit he did and married someone who was just as in deep if not more into the whole volemort love fest, but you think they aren't the same? they don't have the same ideals? they didn't have to go to the same type of pureblood parties and dinners? like draco wasn't around people who were death eaters from the jump? like even more than regulus probably was given the time he was born. like no the only difference between draco and regulus is that one had actual loving parents who cared about him and the other was born into a family where his parents were cousins and definitely only had kids to carry on the family name and nothing else.

my last thing is that people act like regulus doesn't have any redemption in what he does with the locket. like yeah fine he probably only went after voledemort because of what he did to kreature but like okay and? he obviously wasn't indoctrinated as much as y'all love to claim he was the same way lucius wasn't as loyal as everyone thought either bc they knew that that loyalty only ran so far. this man hurt someone they loved and THAT meant more to them than this war and pureblood culture. like so i think regulus had some room to actually become like fanon regulus where he's able to see a different side of things. he's able to get away from that deeply ingrained prejudice. you know the same way draco does at the end of the series. but like y'all can only care and love and vouch for draco bc he's still alive god forbid we want to see a character that was killed off at 17 trying to destroy the one thing that he could to get revenge and hurt voldemort.

all in all let's be real clear it's fucking fiction. you guys are allowed to hold dear something that has meant so much to you for years because of course harry potter has meant a lot to a lot of people and still does despite jk rowling being a terf and bigott. but that doesn't mean you get to police or shit on how other people interact with that content because they find are also finding solace and fun and enjoying shit the same way you are and that means something to them.

please just just let people ship and enjoy what they want. it doesn't have to make sense to you. it doesn't need to be your cup of tea. if you and others aren't being genuinely hurt by it shut! up!

Barty Crouch (Sr): Average Middle-Aged Man Experience

Let’s all be straight with ourselves, Bartemius Crouch (Senior) has no idea who this artist is, or what they do. He knows you’re a fan of them, and he knows a few of the words to certain choruses, but he has no idea. And he doesn’t care to. His preferred ‘concerts’ are closer to the philharmonics than the modern music you like, and who can blame him? He may have lived through the Rock N Roll era, but he cares as much about Elvis as he does the colour of his coffee cups; that is to say, not at all. But you try being in your sixties with an inappropriately young girlfriend and not understanding any of her language or the things she likes. He’ll take you to the concert, of course he will, but don’t expect some strobe light-induced hysteria. You’ll be taken care of, but there will be no merchandise, and certainly no alcohol. If you’re good, and it finishes before half eleven, he’ll take you to his gentleman’s club, though. But not too late, he has golf in the morning.

Fenrir Greyback: Finna be in Pit (Bro)

If you aren’t imagining some sort of death metal when picturing Fenrir in concert, you’re probably on the wrong wavelength. Nothing about him is even vaguely interested in the music, he’ll just appear for the vibe, and an excuse to get absolutely hammered on a Tuesday night. Unless you need to be sitting/in an accessibility area, he’s getting standing room. It’s more fun, he’ll tell you, and everyone in the seating area will be standing anyway. That being said, he’s surprisingly good at not pushing it, especially when it turns out the concert is a week before the full moon and he has to buy himself earplugs. Bright pink, they were the cheapest. He’ll help you source merchandise beforehand, because you are not paying merch prices. If you get him pregamed enough he might even let you put something in his hair. Go for pink bows, it’ll match his earplugs. Pretty solid concert companion overall, minus the fact he’s too tall to go through the security gate and has to get patted down.

Rufus Scrimgeour: Reasonable Effort

Barty’s cluelessness mixed with Fenrir’s enthusiasm creates a new entity, the Rufus. He doesn’t care, at all, nor does he bother to listen to any attempts to explain your newfound obsession; but what he does care about is making you happy, and how does one go about making a music fan happy? Taking them to the artist’s debut London concert is probably a pretty good start. He’ll get solidly decent seats, nothing over the top or attention drawing, and nothing that can solidly prove he was actually there. If you promise not to put it on him he’ll buy you merchandise, but he is not spending that amount of money on subpar spirits, you may drink at home. If you’re close enough to his office, he’ll just get a hotel and bring his bag with him, but only if you promise not to tell anyone where he took you. Bonus points for being the only one to get you there perfectly on-time and still have time to wrangle the merch queues.

Lord Voldemort: Better luck taking an actual snake

Now, all of the other HPQDs have the inherent ability to truly, actually care about you. They love you, in their own ways, and they want you to be happy and have fun because- You want people you love to succeed… Right? But let’s be honest with ourselves, for once, Tommy does not love you. He cares about you, very deeply, he adores your presence, but canonically? He can’t actually even experience love. And, of course, this can cause a bit of tension. No, he is not taking you to the concert, you can take your friends and get absolutely plastered. He’ll make sure the lot of you have an enjoyable trip: access passes, whatever you want, but he will be having an enjoyable evening by himself at home. He will still drop you off and pick you up, though, he isn’t risking the idea of you getting lost in a big city and having to be unceremoniously rescued.

Igor Karkaroff: More of a Fan than You

And now, boys and girls, we come to Igor Karkaroff. Born girl dad, commander of teenaged celebrities, and a bigger fan of wherever you’re supposed to be going than you ever will be. It isn’t that he tries to one-up you (he stopped that years ago), it’s that every person gets one embarrassing hobby in their lifetime, and his is an unashamed kinning for American pop stars, apparently. Rest assured it’ll be him up at 2am on Ticketmaster, and not you. You won’t know which seats are the best- Gods forbid you get standing room- And the artist is only doing two shows in Eastern Europe. No prizes for guessing where*. He’ll pretend he only listens ironically, but we all know he doesn’t. He won’t do anything stupid like get a giant sign to bring with you, but he will make sure you know all the lyric before you go; you are not embarrassing him by not knowing the choruses (chori?) again.

Barty : Johnny Cash (But it’s a secret)

He knows, he knows. He grew up in the 40s and 50s, so he remembers some of Cash’s first songs being released as a young man - He was a young man once, shocker. He doesn’t even have anything to say about it, he just appreciates a baritone. Barty doesn’t necessarily believe in God, he just likes Cash’s gospel albums. He will not go near any of the “rolly nonsense” (rock), but you can find him playing Ring of Fire every so often.

Rufus: John Cage (4.33)

For those of you who didn’t watch Horrible Histories growing up, 4.33 is four and a half minutes of musicians pretending to play instruments. It’s five minutes of silence. It’s not that he doesn’t like music, it’s that it irritates him. Strings are too harsh, brass is annoying, and if he hears one more British artist fake an American accent he is going to scream. He really just does not care. If he’s in a good mood he’ll let you play your music, as long as it’s not that godforsaken death metal.

Contrary to belief, being the Dark Lord of a new magical empire is, actually, kind of stressful. With the war won, it’s more of a bureaucratic position than anything else, and that means a hell of a lot of time staring at paperwork and wishing he was somewhere else. Yes, it’s weird. He knows it’s weird, leave him alone. It’s probably your fault for introducing him to her. The students think it’s hilarious, but are entirely sworn to secrecy- You know what? She’s totally banned. Curse on her name. It is shockingly easy to find things for assorted presents, though, just get him a vinyl he doesn’t have. Yes, you will get tickets to ERAs, and it will be beautiful. Do not doubt him again.

I always roll my eyes when I see people be like "well tommy HAD to have been flying the plane" cause like. all you were doing is talking about reality vs the show like why r people so pressed about that. like I'm an emt and I do that all the time cause I think it's fun to talk about the realities of ems care vs tvs depiction of it. I'm not saying the show is bad or whatever i just like talking about emergency medicine and how tv gets it wrong alot. anyways I appreciate u talking all about aviation its really interesting and I hope ur not too disheartened by people being weird cause I love reading ur posts about it <3

Hypothetically, the show decides to film an emergency where a huge chunk of an airliner's roof tears off. The whole plane is basically hanging by a thread, one engine fails and the landing gears are not secure, but somehow the pilots manage to make a successful landing. What is it? An open top plane instead of a bus? The writers are running out of ideas.

Or what if it's an Airbus with a faulty auto-throttle that needs constant monitoring by the flight crew. When the captain is holding onto the throttle, he just happens to have a heart attack and lets go, now the plane is banking to one side because the malfunctioning auto-throttle has rolled back one of the engine. Oh wait, the first officer is more used to flying Soviet planes and their altitude indicator has a completely opposite mechanism comparing to the western one. (Western ADI shows you the horizon, Soviet ADI turns with the plane) So the first officer turns the wrong way and crashes the plane. Wow, really? A Final Destination parody?

Or maybe a FedEx employee tries to commit insurance fraud by hijacking a cargo plane, killing the pilots with a hammer and a spear gun then crashing it to hide the evidence. The first officer, suffering from brain injury due to the attack, decides to fly the DC-10 like a fighter jet to help his equally injured colleagues subdue the hijacker. He first makes a sudden steep climb, then a sharp roll to the left until the plane is flying upside down, and finally dives so quickly it's approaching the speed of sound. Somehow they manages to land safely and the attacker is arrested. Did the writers get the wrong memo and wrote an action movie instead of a plane emergency?

Except I didn't write all these to mock the show, these are actually Aloha Airlines Flight 243, TAROM Flight 371 and FedEx Flight 705. (The FedEx DC-10 was later repaired and it flew until December 31, 2022. Amazing.) Sometimes real life is stranger than fiction, and it is fun to talk about, I think you understand exactly what I mean. We all get to learn what works, what doesn't, and what is surprisingly realer than we thought.

Even the shark on freeway call people keep bringing up to prove how crazy, how unrealistic the show is, well, there is a place called Florida, and everything that can happen has happened there.

This shark didn't bite anyone though, it didn't survive the crash. :/

I actually started writing about real life pilot training and how hard it is to fly a helicopter because of the discourse going around back then claiming Tommy didn't deserve a medal because he did nothing. "It's not real, it's a TV show where anyone can do anything, anyone can drive that helicopter lol." I wrote about the difference between helicopter pilots and fixed wing pilots because I found the contrast between them interesting, and Tommy's characterization is aptly appropriate for someone who flies helicopters professionally. I even worked that into a little headcanon of my own, about Tommy dating an airplane pilot in the past and the difference in lifestyle and attitude that broke them up. I've never forced anyone to accept my explanation as absolute fact, it's always about my interpretation of Tommy's character. People can ignore top/bottom debates, D/s discourse, KINKTOMATO, right? Yet I say Tommy doesn't fly a 4 engine air tanker (but he's still super badass as a helicopter pilot, I wrote a 3 part series just about how dangerous and difficult the cruise ship rescue mission in 7x03 is), people just feel the need to tell me I'm wrong, to express their displease of me obsessing over tiny details, or simply "shut the hell up". Adding a disclaimer and creating a whole tag for people to block wasn't even enough. It's just... discouraging.

I don't know, I just hope the show never goes full Fire Country (2022-). It misrepresents real life firefighting so bad that CAL FIRE chief publicly condemned the show. The president of CAL FIRE's union even made an unsuccessful attempt to sue the show and later released a statement basically saying "we can't force them to do anything, but know that we have nothing to do with the show." I just think real firefighters spending the whole afternoon talking to the news about how dangerous and impractical it is to dump bunch of water over a crowded urban area, then immediately after that 911!LAFD, a fire department for the city not the surrounding woodland, showed up with the exact air tanker Trump suggested, that would be kinda... goofy. I've seen a retired firefighter praising the later seasons of 9-1-1 for striking a good balance between dramatization and authenticity. I hope they keep it that way.

I think one important distinction when creating characters with nature inclined powers is the difference between a forest nymph, a forest fairy and a forest guardian

All three are protectors but you generally want to differentiate between them to make your audience know what to expect when you say one appears both in terms of looks and behaviour (and also to regulate their behaviour accordingly)

Nymph: Generally what men will think all 3 of them are in terms of aesthetic, seductress style. Generally protect those who come into the forest with good intentions as well as the forest from mean intended people, they do it by using seduction to lure victims in before they can do harm, or pretending to be a helpless beautiful woman walking around and waiting for an attack, and killing them, generally you see it being by poisoned lips and the like. Generally will leave a intact corpse, even if sometimes humiliated, the ones that don't are usually the cannibalistic sort. They are sometimes tied to one specific plant and will only attack if that specific plant is attacked but sometimes they protect the entire forest.

Fairy: Wether big or small generally what little girls think when they think fairy, ethereal women with flowing hair and long light coloured and flowing dresses surrounded by small animals and perhaps a sleeping big predator if you want to hammer home the idea of peace they have around them. The ones you wander into the forest to make a deal with and cannot accept food from. Helps the forest by fixing broken branches and helping smal animals find food and protects it by turning malicious people into harmless animals or just straight up trees. Will not leave a intact corpse to be found generally.

Guardian: When you can get weird generally, some are human, some are plants, some are big animals, some are a mix, some look like a straight up nightmare, some are meant to confuse you, have your pick it's time to put your creativity to good use. Generally you have local legends on how to appease it in order to enter the forest at all and while inside you have to be super respectful and if you're hunting you have to hunt precisely what you need and not an animal more, honor the animal and leave offerings beforehand, giving back the bones of the animal you hunted afterwards is generally appreciated. If you fail to do any of those things you either get confused around and get out without meaning to or get mauled by a wild animal, sometimes the guardian itself depending on their form.

This is based mostly on myths and legends and the difference in portrayal I see of the 3 words in media.

It's also not the bible, you can do differently if you'd like. In fact I encourage you to use these expectations to trick readers into thinking they are dealing with one then spring the other, trick characters even it will be fun.

Pleasee note that ive been reading all the Jason comics in order of release (started at flying todds jaybin currently at rhato), I've only read countdown once, my memory issues are a bitch, and everything is subject to change for forever 👍

I'm like, basing this whole ramble off my memory of events, and no rereading means no potential updating of feelings on it

To start on positives, I love many concepts and characters it brings to the table and all the different earths traveling they do, I think Donna, Jason, and Kyle are a fun trio as well, and their adventures are delightful. The different earths are all very interesting and i dearly wish we got to have more focus on them. I may not like it being so long but ehhh I've considered rereading it on occasion. The issues counting down are also a fun gimmick as well.

One of my problems is the like. Main story. It feels pretty messy just to like, read though. The extra issues onto the main 52 don't help. Not being familiar with that many dc characters in general doesn't help (was more of a marvel kid). Don't really remember how many character stories we were following in there anymore, it just felt like alot and I genuinely can't remember where half of them led

I ALSO. Skimmed it a bit. Especially later. That's on me. But to be fair to me it's 50 issues and I just don't think I'm big on long comic stories like that. in general. So it was always doomed to fail in the test of my personal opinion

I dont like the ending where they all hang out in a bunker on the good earth and the virus they have is spreading to just. kill that entire world. And they just go home after that. That's like, that felt weird. I'm just not big on heros accidentally slowly killing an entire universe. That just like. Hhhhng. Um. You know when the stakes get so big and bad they just kinda suck? If that's what I mean??

While I do like looking into Superboy Prime and Jason's resurrection. Don't like his dialogue here. Don't know if that's normal for him or not though

I felt a teensy bit validated when I looked it up after reading and saw many others not liking it I fear

But ignoring at all that. (Because while important to acknowledge when talking about my problems with it, most of what I just had to say is unfair to it)

My knowledge is on Jason. Let's focus on Jason

Jason just kinda. Sucks? He sucks in this. Do not get me wrong Jason is absolutely allowed to be an asshole, I won't ignore those edges. But he was more like,,, a generic asshole? He didn't feel like Jason to me, just more like, a template character or something. There are fun interactions and moments he has but just. Bwah. And it feels like a very strange turn too because for the first few issues I was actually really enjoying the Jason here. I'm not sure what happened

(Fun fact this is the first comic I felt showed Jason as angry. Actual "wow that guy is angry". the angry i was expecting when i started reading him. It was when Dick and Tim interrogated him, I actually think about this moment alot in some of my vague rambling thoughts on Jason, his anger, and how the controlled narrative after his death effects how people expect him to react and thus treat him. Its neat. I thought his interaction with Jimmy was fun and it's a neat contrast bc Jimmy and Dick n Tim were asking the same questions. I enjoyed the early issues of countdown alot, which I think made it have a harder fall for me)

But back to the bad. He's also. Consistently looking down on female heros? Excluding Donna but like. I can't remember it all exactly. but I do remember, that I felt very very very nervous when they said they were going to the genderswap dimension next (he didn't say anything here tho, actually)

Jason also just sorta,, very consistently gets beat up and knocked down? Felt very 'wow look at this guy he sucks don't you think he sucks. Do you want to see him get beat up constantly and not win any fight.' And there's no payoff to this at all. Nothing changes, nothing gets better, he immediately throws the red robin costume in the trash and we never talk about any of this ever again. He's just sorta an asshole punching bag the whole time and it's not something I enjoy. He gets into fights and gets put down and no one likes him. He doesn't even get to have fun while he's here, iirc he's basically just miserable and trying to get this over with the whole time. Kinda distantly wanted him to not leave the victorian era gotham, just a little bit, just a tad, to be real

And there's just a bit of whiplash to his whole character. We go from silly and carefully planning and competent to. Gestures vaguely. There is NO DOUBT very fun analysis about Jason you could do with this and the whiplash. But its not something I personally want to do with countdown

thinking about endgame thor again... with all appropriate caveats, i think there's a possible universe in which a) he's skinny thor rather than fat thor, and b) it's good.

like, i think it would be genuinely quite arresting to see a character so defined by his strength, as represented by his physical size, literally diminished. it would be a reminder that thor is not a god, just a person from another planet - he has needs, he gets sick, he can die.

and to be clear, i know that using thinness to represent vulnerability and tragedy can play into fatphobia, and it's absolutely fair to criticise canon for simultaneously using fatness to represent serious ill health in thor and treating it as a joke. fat thor should have been a tragic and arresting figure too.

but the thing is, fat thor's actual size is not that big of a deal. his mental illness and addiction certainly are, but his body type is not, in and of itself, unhealthy. of course laughing at fat thor is fatphobia, but making a huge tragedy out of the fact that he's got a bit of a belly wouldn't be any better.

thinness, on the other hand, gets dangerous much faster than fatness. if thor had lost the amount of weight canon had him gain, he would be in imminent danger of death. and considering that thor had a body-builder physique to begin with and therefore basically only had muscle to lose, it's even more alarming. (i'm not necessarily suggesting that they should have gone for weight loss that extreme, just trying to demonstrate the contrast in the core concepts here.)

and with all that in mind... they would have to get more creative with thor's plot and character than just winding him up like a toy soldier again if he were actually too physically unwell to fight. the idea of thor "still being worthy" would hit harder if thor's worthiness didn't have to take the form of killing people with hammers yet again, and what he contributed to the cause came instead from his heart or his mind.

and this would also probably not involve undoing the destruction of mjolnir, but even if it did, it would probably *feel* less like simply undoing it and more like completing an arc, because it would mean saying several related but distinct things:

mjolnir does not give thor his power.

mjolnir does not define thor's worth.

thor's power doesn't define his worth either. he doesn't need a magic hammer or lightning powers to be able to help his friends or to have a reason to go on.

oh, and finally, for the gimmicky marketers and easter egg nerds: it could be a fun callback to skinny steve in ca:tfa. cmon kevin, i know you want to do an eight-years-later cgi comparison! it would still be a little silly, but at least it wouldn't be a fat suit. and if there was a story with heart behind it, i think they could get away with it again.
