Daily Dose of Disney (Princess): Mulan
So Mulan isn’t technically a princess, but she is always grouped in with them, and I love her! So she’s totally going on the list!
Princess: Mulan Movie: Mulan Year Released: 1998 Original Story: “The Ballad of Mulan”
Fun Facts: ~ Mulan isn’t actually based on a true story or real person, but an actual Chinese legend/poem. ~ In the legend, Mulan has a younger brother who is too young to fight. The Disney iteration portrays her sibling as her dog, appropriately named Little Brother.
~ Lea Salonga provided the singing voice for Mulan, as well as Princess Jasmine. She is the only woman to voice two Disney princesses. ~ Mulan’s sidekick, Mushu, was supposed to have a song in the movie, but it was later cut. ~ Princesses typically don’t kill people, but Mulan is technically the princess with the highest kill count. She kills 1,995 people in her movie. ~ She is the first Disney princess to not be an actual princess, as she wasn't born to royalty. She also didn't marry a prince. ~ She's also the first Disney princess to be raised by her biological parents for her entire childhood and the second to have both of her parents alive during her childhood (the first was Aurora). ~ Mulan is the first Disney princess to not sing about her love for a hero or prince. ~ She is the first princess to be seen getting a haircut in a Disney movie, and the the first princess to be visibly physically wounded. ~ Mulan fights with one hand and writes with the other, implying that she is ambidextrous. ~ The gorgeous flowers in the film are commonly associated with cherry blossoms, which are native to Japan rather than China (though there are cherry blossoms in China as well). It’s speculated that the pink blossoms are actually magnolias, and it’s said that the name Mulan means “blossom.”

My two cents on frozen 2:
Anyone who has seen my blog knows I am an Hans stan (and also a former Helsa shipper) and yes I was kinda disappointed when there was absolutely no Hans in the new movie. But above all the discussions I'd like to tell all those who are much more disappointed than me (and posted complaints and eventually started arguments about it) what happened and why it's important.
So what happened exactly in Frozen 2:
most of the female characters wore trousers. This sounds like nothing I know, but the only others disney female characters who had this privilege were Jasmine in aladdin (1996) and Mulan (1998). So yes it took 23 years for a Disney princess to wear pants again.
ok lets forget about the trousers, what I'm trying to say is that we live in a ridiculously awful time (ridiculous because one would think that in the 21st century people understood the basic human needs):
-right wings are being more popular than the last 30 years with them there's growing racism, xenophobia, all minorities (lgbt+, ethnic minorities, religious ones.. ) they are living one of the worse possible scenarios.
-Also the rising of the feminist movement create a public backlash of those who consider women nothing more than housewives.
-Climate change exists and is our fault.
Frozen 2 touched these 3 major arguments in a fairytale way and it was the best thing they could ever do.
-They explicitly address the fact that the supposedly good side (Arrendellians) have committed slaughter towards a peaceful native tribe. What a wonderful Thanksgiving we had this year, where the usa couldn't hide behind the turkey.
The grandfather It is not even the main villain, the villain in the story are the consequences of hatred and lies, how it destroyed the forest, caged those who were not able to make peace and ultimately how it hid the truth about Elsa's magic origins.
- both Elsa and Anna are incredibly 3 dimensional character, they have passions, interests, ambitions, things they hate, things they love. They are NOT there to be pretty and poised. They have their own will in the second movie much more than the first.
Please dont forget the scene where the little girl asks Elsa for a scientific instrument instead of a toy, it was subtle, but how many women can't get close to sciences and math because they believe that is something for boys: Too many.
In Frozen 2 Anna faces the death of whats left her family and still has the strength to destroy the dam flint had problems with water too i guess which was the symbol of the oppression of the nourthuldras. She doesn't free Arrendellians, they might loose their houses, but they are already free. They can leave if they want, they can rebuild, they have possibilities. The Northuldra don't and she chooses to give away even her own house to fix 30+ years of unfair inprisonment in a magical forest without being able to see the sky
Elsa instead goes on a journey to find her true self, which is different than not believing yourself as a danger to others (see plot of frozen1). She finds she had much more power than she thought, show yourself is canonicaly an empowerment song. After that she finds her own freedom too. The freedom to choose where she wants to live, how and in which terms. Although she might even be siuted for being queen, she choses to live a different life than the one paved for her by her parents. And she does it without closing doors.
- how they addressed climate change, it was subtle yes, but it was there. The elements of nature dont answer anymore to the humans will. Well in truth they never did. But they didn't even rebel too much either.
In frozen 2 nature rebels willingly towards the people (Arrendellians, Northulrda, all of them). The spirits are clear: you either make peace with each other and fix the damage you caused to the forest, or f* you, we can't live without humans, humans without us, let's find out.
Elsa sacrifices herl life to find the truth on how to fix their relationship with the Northulrda.
I'd like to point out that granpa was all about killing the Northulrda, and not about killing the forest, but he ended up damaging nature in his way of genocide, because guess what, that's exactly what happens when you try to damage a population of any kind, you start by damaging their land.
Eventually being able to make peace with other humans was also the key to make peace with nature, as if not trying to destroy each other could bring benefits.
-and least but not last, the question far too many people ask about: Elsa sexuality. THE MOVIE DOESN'T EXPLICITLY ADDRESS IT. But the writers and Idina Menzel and probably the whole cast were totally cool with the giveElsaaGirlfrien hastag.
If they ever going to address it directly I don't know, but I glad that disny stopped teaching girls that their final goal is to find the love of their life.
Marrige is not your first purpose.
You can do anything in the world before choosing to be with someone. Im not saying do things alone, but do it knowing that you don't have to have a love interest to be happy. Find what you love to do for yourself, your passions your interests, everything that brings you joy, dont just end up with someone because movies shoved romance in your brain since you were 3. Have fun with your life. For yourself.
After this long rant, back to the starting point, having Hans in the movie would have made me a much happier human, but that's just not what the world needed. Writers knew hundreds of thousands would go watch the movie, and they will re-watch it again and again; it was their chance to make an impact on the audience, and those little boys who will grow up having Kristoff singing he missed his love maybe will be more open, maybe they won't have so much toxic masculinity in them because movies are changing the way they portrait even strong men. And maybe girls will identify with a powerful goddess who has a gentle heart of maybe they will find more inspiration in a very brave and loving new queen, who could chose to do the right thing despite losing all she had.
Hans would have taken away too much of the message they are trying to make.
Maybe there will be a Frozen 3 one day, who knows. But if I had to pick between a favorite character and a movie with a real impact on youth that is about changing the way we see ourselves as a society and how we can cooperate to make a better world. I'd pick the latter.
Hans is a rounded character, has personality and everything, but he's just not worth the world
So please stop bagging about hans not being in frozen 2 and stop insulting the authors.
Im referring to those in the hans fandom who are rude and act like spoiled brat. The others know they didn't do nothing wrong.

Maybe it’s because I grew up watching Disney movies all the time but I don’t like the Disney movies for their romance. Yes the romance parts are great especially in some of the later movies but there’s so much to learn from each and every princess. Ps, this is really fucking long but I think it’s important and carries a lot of good life lessons. Sorry for bad grammar and weird language. My only language is English but I don’t speak it that well when I’m tired.
Snow White: She didn’t let her fear get in the way of her caring heart, and the only reason why the old crone was her stepmother was because her stepmother actively looked for her knowing that Snow would help her because of how kind she was, which is how she convinced her to take her into the house. The only person who did something wrong was the Evil Queen in taking advantage of a girl of 14 who doesn’t understand what she did wrong.
Cinderella: Being brave enough to follow your heart and work to make your dreams come true is something I especially think that we could learn form today. She worked to get all her chores done and because of everything she did for them the mice helped her finish the dress. The fairy godmother saw how hard she tried to go to the ball, and so she helped Cinderella get there and make sure she wasn’t recognized by Lady Tremaine so that way she couldn’t be abused further for leaving the house. Also while Cinderella was excited by the idea of meeting the Prince, she was excited because she wanted to meet to him and talk to him and that’s what ultimately drew him to her. She wasn’t throwing herself at someone because of his money or titles like Drisella or Anastasia or the other women, in fact she fell in love with him and married him for the way he loved her.
Jasmine: A lot of people don’t recognize the strength it takes for Jasmine to make the decisions she made. Instead of quietly submitting to a marriage she instead used her position as princess to make a point and refused to sit idly by as a glorified prisoner within the palace walls, and a lot of people don’t realize that a lot of women/girls in middle eastern countries aren’t allowed to leave their homes or are forced to married the men that their fathers chose for them either because they don’t know better, or fear of retribution. It also makes a point that just because women may be the money makers doesn’t mean that the man is any less important in the relationship. Jasmine chose Aladdin because he supported her as who she was as a person and recognized that she wouldn’t want to marry a prince who thought he was worthy because he was a man/Prince so rather he proved that he wanted to marry Jasmine because he loved her for all of her.
Mulan: This is another one because Mulan broke the gender roles that are present even with modern Western societies. Men go off to fight in wars and women stay home get married and maybe get a job and raise the kids, but there are so many women who fight for our country and rights and our freedoms, and continue to fight to make sure we can keep them, but also create more and help others. Also Mulan shows that sometimes it goes beyond raw power and the ability to follow orders that makes a person successful. You have to be driven, hard-working, creative, and cunning in order to achieve your goals. Also not to mention it teaches girls to be proud of who they are as fighters, and not to hide behind any type of mask because they aren’t worthless. Also there are so many unspoken women in history that did a lot for their countries during war times, and Mulan barely begins to cover it.
Belle: This is one of my personal favorites for multiple reasons. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie and Belle is my favorite princess and theirs a reason. There are so many types of people out there and being book loving introvert that didn’t have a lot of friends growing up Belle was a huge role model for me. For one she didn’t take shit Gaston and refused to let him and the villagers influence her values and get in the way of her passion for reading and refused to let people make fun of her father, because her parentage was something she was proud of, and rightfully so, as her father was a ingenious inventor. Also not to mention she didn’t take shit from the Beast as well, being the first person to let him know throw a healthy way *cough* unlike the Enchantress *cough* that he wasn’t treating people with the respect they deserved, but she still helped him when he saved her life showing that she has a good heart, as she just returned to the very castle she had been escaping. Of course another thing she does is instead of immediately leaving, as soon as she sees hope of progress and change within the Beast she teaches him what it means to be a good person, acting as a teacher and good influencer. The reason she doesn’t do this with Gaston is because he not only refuses to change, and instead tries to change her, he also threatens her, and as soon as she’s not submissive to him, he labels her as crazy and casts her to the side and goes on a jealous rampage against the man she does have feelings for, as I do often see within my own school. Belle also sees past the views of the villagers, who see Gaston as more then a strong handsome guy and instead for the asshat he is, which is something that girls should keep in mind when approaching anyone of the preferred gender. Look at personality and not physical features. Most of the time you can see the warning signs of an abusive relationship before it actually starts, if you look for them.
Ariel: This is one that I find really intersting and I’m at odds with. On one hand I think that Ariel had a right to be curious and she was right to look past her family views and try to see humans for what they were rather then what her family labeled them to be. This applys great to people who have bigot parents and absolutely encourage curious people to ask me questions about my heritage and my sexuality and a lot of my guy friends ask a lot of what it’s like being a girl. Education isn’t always what you read in books. Also I like how even though Ariel was putting herself at risk, she recognized the need that Eric was in, and set her own self aside to save Eric, as you should always value life and try to help others in need when possible. On the other hand, Ariel gave up a lot for Eric. While I understand her need to leave her family behind she knew nothing about Eric or if he was in fact a mermaid killer as she had never had a true conversation with him, and you should never jump headlong into relationships like that because it’s not always healthy and can lead to a lot of miscommunication. Also another thing I don’t like is the Flotsum and Jetsum reminded me so much of creepy old men luring kids into cars. Stay safe and aware. Your life isn’t worth a guy or whatever your willing to get yourself killed for. There was a reason Sebastian tried to warn her and a reason Flounder took his side. Your friends often times have your best interests at heart, and are looking out for you. Listen to them. Sometimes they can see stuff you can’t. Also the fact she gave up her voice for Eric is something I’m at odds with. Yes relationships do take sacrifice and work, but you should never ever feel the need to give up such a huge part of yourself for someone else, and a person who cares about you would never ask that if you. If Eric truly cared about Ariel he would have saw past the tail and they could have tried to find another way to be together without putting Ariel in danger. Also irrational choices. Times of emtions and clouded judgment are not the time and place to make life changing decisions. Also people may claim to be helping but often times if they want something out of it, especially something big and personal, they are you using and should not being trusted.
Aurora: Not gonna lie I don’t have much to say because she wasn’t in much of the movie. But yeah talking to people isn’t a bad thing, you can’t let your guardian determine your social life that’s for you to figure out. For me it’s social media and a lot of theater nerds, for others they’re sportsy and they like taking to people and making friends face to face. But also talk to people a bit before asking them in a date, and if they name a sketchy place or seem to have a sketchy background don’t meet them. They could be fishers or rapists or just weird. Not really Aurora’s fault and for the time picking her up at a woodsman cottage in the middle of the woods isn’t that weird, but Phillip hun if the lights aren’t on and the voice sounds like the wicked fairy from your fiancées baptism then don’t go in. Also don’t date people if your engaged it’s rude.
Pocahontas: While I understand a lot of the movie isn’t historically accurate for a kids movie about looking past race and understanding someone before you judge them, and misplacing your anger, 100% done right Disney. Amazing. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Also find those key supporting figures in your life like Grandmother Willow, because those are the people that in the long run, will be there for you and love you forever. Also, again, be true to yourself. Pocahontas wasn’t happy with being the conplacent wife, don’t be the conplacent girl. If you have dreams, go fucking get them. They are so within your grasp all you have to do is leave the haters behind, jump in your canoe, and look at what’s around the river bend. Also thank you for discussing how precious every single bit of life on our Earth is and how much we should preserve it, but also for calling out white imperialism. You didn’t come form this land, just because you say mine like a spoiled child, doesn’t give you the right to commit genocide and kill multiple cultures and thousands of people, and destroy the land they worked so hard to preserve, and then deny them rights in their own country. My ancestors are guilty of this, and my ancestors have also been the victims. While it’s horrible and needs to be taught better in schools and bigotry needs to be erased, we also need to move past it a preserve the dying cultures by teaching people about them, even if they don’t necessarily belong to the culture by blood. I’m more Irish then Aztec, but I want to know more about my heritage on both sides. And I live for teaching people my history if they’re willing to listen.
Tiana: Girl you are a strong black women and you have a dream and you work hard and you make your daddy proud every goddamn day. But you also have to remember that you need to give yourself the space to grow and be a person outside of work. You need to remeber to have fun, and you can only give 100 if you treat yourself like you’re 100. But also you can’t dilly dally along all day, and you’ll never get anywhere if life if you don’t work for it. Even the smallest of dreams is something more then nothing (looking at you Naveen) also hey maybe that person worked for that shit you don’t know, but don’t go about the wrong way of doing something through anger because it never ends well. Also hey thanks for showing off the racial devide of the historyocal time period. Just letting you know it was extremely rare for white anf black girls to be friends because most of the time they wouldn’t see each other. Also allowing Tiana into the costume party was truly revolutionary on Charlotte’s part as black people weren’t supposed to be treated as equals. That obviously had changed a lot but it also needs to change still. Not to mention Naveen would have never been allowed to marry Charlotte due to his skin tone even with her daddy’s blessing unless he was a prince, because he would’ve been lynched otherwise. Also that image of family and neighbors being one. That’s was something amazing. Share what you can with those around you cause they other have less. Also let’s make sure that the divide between white and black folks keep getting smaller ok.
Rapunzel: Boy could I go on a tangent about this movie because recognizing who you are as a person and who you want to be is just the start. Mother Gothel was horrible, terrible, awful, and no-good in so many ways I’m surprised the movie is rated G with the level of abuse portrayed in the film. First off you shouldn’t steal, and you cannot claim something made for those in need for yourself when there are others out there suffering so much worse. (Definitely talking about the Medicare system here get your act straight) Also you shouldn’t find the need to control everything about your child’s life. You have to let them be there own person and figure things out on there own otherwise the message will never get through. Also treat your child like a goddamn person they aren’t a slave or your own personal slave they are a human being. Don’t get me started on stealing a child because holy fuck how bad of a person do you have to be.
Merida: I love this movie for a variety of reasons. First a female character does not need a romance to be a successful lead role. Also sane thing, your child isn’t a mini you, or a mold to make as you want. They are a human being. They must grow and learn on their own, or they’ll never truly understand the lesson. The best you can do is support them. Also like with Merida and the princes, a girl doesn’t need a man to be a Queen, a man or another person of preferred gender should just make her stronger. Also one of the things I have learned is that this movie wasn’t Queen Elenore finding the courage to let her daughter be herself, or Merida finding the courage to admit her mistakes, but more then that, it was finding the courage to live in a way Disney had never shown before. Brave was about family love, and how there are so many bonds and relationships that are so much more important and valuable to use then our selfish parts of us like pride, being a family with people who hold different values then yourself is one of eh hardest thing, take it from a person who knows. But you have to find the courage and the strength to move past the fear, anger, and sadness to work together as people who where originally designed to love each other unconditionally, and make a family work, and as shown it only works if every person who’s part of it, puts in the effort and emotion in order to truly create the bond needed to love each other above all else.
This was my long ass rant as to why I think Disney princesses are important and don’t necessarily hold a bad message I didn’t talk about lesser know princesses or Frozen because that is a whole rant in itself that I’m not going to get into because it’s nearily one in the morning here.

Mulan and Pocahontas
So after rewatching Princess and the Frog (and I guess Ralph Breaks the Internet, technically), I realized I want to go back and watch every one of the Disney Princess’ movies just so I can actually see what’s up with them. Obviously I’ve seen bits and bobs about them, and I basically get the gist of who they are, but even if I did see their movies, I’ve probably forgotten the actual events of it because I honestly think child me didn’t really care to remember much. So, I started with Mulan and Pocahontas, really just because they’re the ones on Netflix...
Mulan did kind of start this spiral, since I wanted to watch this movie anyway. I could definitely sing along to a bit of Make a Man out of You, but I didn’t remember how the movie resolved exactly. I knew she shot a rocket at a mountain to kill some of the Huns with an avalanche, but I thought that was the very end of them. I didn’t know about the final bit, so that was fun. I also didn’t really know what was up with Mushu either, apart from him being a part of the comic relief animals.
Honestly, I don’t know what to do with those types of characters in Disney movies, especially in these ones, but Mulan more specifically. They tend to just ruin tense moments for me. There was that one scene in Pocahontas where they remarked at the killing of one of the Natives, but that was about it. In Mulan, though, they really should’ve just been kept out of that scene where the troops look upon the thousands of dead soldiers near that attacked village. You already got a feel of dread and sadness from the village, and then panning over that bloodbath with all of the characters showing visible grim on their face, and one of them bringing up the helmet of the dead general, and then... cut to proto-Will Smith in dragon form with gigantic puppydog eyes. It just breaks the feeling.
It’s also weird, though, because those three other soldiers who basically are comic relief also don’t feel as bad when reacting to such a scene. Maybe it’s just because they’re designs aren’t quite as exaggerated as the animals? I dont know. It’s almost how upbeat they usually are that makes their somberness so much more impactful, especially when the scene cuts their joyful shanty short.
Speaking of songs, Mulan’s Princess ballad actually struck a chord with me. I say “actually” because it was pretty much a generic “I want to be what other people don’t want to be” sort of deal, even with the “women are supposed to be seen not heard” tones of the film that are a little blown up nowadays. I mean, if you’re ever going to use that tone, it should be in ancient(?) China, but still. The song really got me.
I mean, that’s basically all that needs to be said. It was a great movie, obviously. There’s 0 chance in hell that I’d watch the sequels, though. I don’t think anyone would shame me for that.
Pocahontas was probably the weirder one for me, even apart from the obvious historical inaccuracies, including but not limited to ol’ Poca not being of legal age when meeting the dreamboat Smith. I mean, when it comes to the fictitious version, frankly, this might’ve been the most believable love-at-first-sight I’ve ever seen. They established that she (I’m not going to type her name out every time) wanted someone with a distinct personality and a wild side, so naturally she’d be into a strange man with strange trinkets from a faraway land. Not to mention, he was seriously charming. I was honestly charmed. I’m not even into that type, and I wanted them together. It was probably helped by the fact that they didn’t resolve it with the perfect happy ending too. If you don’t resolve it yourself, then the audience will be more likely to want it resolved, anyway. If you do it for them, it feels slightly cheaper.
With Poca herself, I got that same sort of vibe I got when watching Lilo and Stitch. I’ve always seen her in merchandise and whatnot, so she never felt entirely like a character, and more like an image. Her few bits in Ralph Breaks the Internet just sort of cemented my preconceived notion that she’s the more reverent and quiet princess, but seeing her in action broke that, which is a little bittersweet. Obviously the wild-type is super charming, always has and always will be, but that seems to be the case with basically every princess. Obviously again, she’s one of the earliest princesses, so you couldn’t really blame them for maintaining a trend, but having a more quiet princess would be nice. Maybe that’s what they’re going for nowadays. It’s hard to tell, since she’s in basically nothing, especially with Elsa taking the Disney Princess reins.
It was also weird sometimes with the discrepancy between the flawless, probably rotoscoped faces of Poca and her friend, mixed with the highly cartoonic (cartoony? apparently cartoonic isn’t even a real word?) animals. It really gave off that same feel when a live actor is (trying) to interact with a CGI character, but decades before CGI was even a thing. It’s kind of interesting in that regard, but still really jarring. Thank God animation isn’t doing that anymore. The normally animated humans, like Ratcliffe, looked great though. They seriously spared no expense in the animation, as is the case with early Disney works. I just thought this movie was going to be more reminiscent of Snow White or Sleeping Beauty, where it was good, but not quite as polished. It was definitely polished.
The climax of the movie genuinely got me going, though. Both clans interchanging the same beliefs but from different sides through this gigantic, angry song was actually fucking amazing. You do sort of side with the Natives though, since they’re the ones acting in self defense, pretty much. By the end of it all, you of course realize that Ratcliffe was the source of the altercation, and frankly I wish one of his men shot him just as he was about to shoot Poca’s father. That would’ve been amazing. But, alas, John had to take the bullet. If only it were that easy in real life... There are just one too many Ratcliffes in the world.
Again, the sequels might as well not exist, because I ain’t touchen em.
I’m going to hope that I’ll get the chance to watch Snow White and Sleeping Beauty next, because I really want that classic Disney dose. I’ll take Brave as a substitute, even though that movie was seriously a disappointment in concept at least. I wanted a badass warrior princess, dammit! I mean, the only time I’ve actually watched Brave was on a party bus during a school field trip, so maybe I’m missing something.

If they could be a Disney character who would they choose
For a lovable anon. So, dear leaders, whose place would you take?
Anduin: Alice. Azeroth is crazy, Anduin might just as well become another blondie in Wonderland.
Ghost Varin: Donald Duck. He has this sort of a feeling he is like that duck guy a lot alike anyway. Ruling the kingdom was like herding cats... or taking care of three nephews.
The Council of Three Hammers:
Muradin: Genie. The only downside is being stuck in the lamp and that becomes a choice, right? Who wouldn’t want to be a genie? Moira: Elsa. Sure,a fire-princess would be more cool, but still. Choose freedom! Falstad: Samuel Thomas “Falcon” Wilson. Marvel us owned by Disney, whatever your argument is, it’s invalid against Falstad (and the Wildhammer Fact-checker)
Tyrande: Owl. A) it’s an owl, b) knows everything. More or less.
Mekkatorque: Audrey Rocio Ramirez. Mechanics and engineers to their own.
Velen: Zazu. The knowing bird.
Genn: Beast. Strong feeling he is him anyway.
Aysa: Bagheera. Tired, but protective, rationally thinking. A big fluffy cat.
Thrall: Buzz Lightyear. The Hero Designed To Save Everyone, slightly disillusioned by the end of the first movie, but still trying, ok?
Spirit of Vol'jin: Eugene “Flynn Rider” Fitzherbert. Look, it’s almost his life, except Vol’jin killed more people.
Ghost Garrosh: Fa Mulan. Protecting his (her?) land from evil invaders! People actually standing up for him at least once, too?
Baine: Aladdin. The adventurous voice of reason. Well, “reason”... He would have gone fur Tulio, but apparently Tulio is DreamWorks (Baine doesn’t get the difference, he’s a simple Tauren.)
Sylvanas: Hades. When in doubt, rule the Underworld.
Lor'themar: Aurora. He is all down for the Big Nap.
Gallywix: Cedric the Sorcerer. This is bound to be so much fun!
Ji: Vaneloppe von Schweetz. See, this is the perfect Huojin insight on things.
Taedal: Kim Possible. He bets you didn’t know this was an option.

Happy December everybody!! I now present to you....
Í RÉTTU LJÓSI!!!
The last song!!!
I really, really love Í réttu ljósi. ESPECIALLY the 1998 version, with Selma and Valgerður killing it on the vocals. This context is, this is the culmination of the Unity Festival, or Equality Festival, Sameiningarhátið, whatever you wanna call it. After Immi quits pouting and joins both the cause and the party, they all get together and sing this song, about how you just have to look at things in the right light and you’ll see why everyone should be equal and work together as one. The chorus is just different permutations of “one for all and all for one”, that I have a hard time distinctly translating but thats basically what it means. It’s quite fitting that this is the only song that EVERYONE sings together, what with Gedda being missing from Litir.
What I find really nice about the 1998 Ávaxtakarfan is that it has a bit of narration at the very end. Usually on albums like that, there is no ending narration, and the last song is all you get. On this album, there is one, and it is short and sweet: “Hafið í huga, allir eru sérstakir hver á sinn hátt. Takk fyrir að hlusta.” which means “Keep in mind, everyone is special in their own way. Thank you for listening.”
I think that is a nice, fitting end.
Comments and screenshots under the cut:
1998:
Good news! There’s an actual video clip of Í réttu ljósi from 1998 online! So I can include screenshots this time! Hooray!
Everybody looks extra cursed from this angle.
So, can’t talk about 1998 Ávaxtakarfan without talking about Stóra Graskerið. The Great Pumpkin. I guess technically the word is BIG pumpkin, but...I’m gonna call her the great pumpkin.
I know absolutely nothing about her.
Okay, that´s not EXACTLY true.
I know that she appears twice in the play, once to sing Litir and once to sing Í réttu ljósi, but has little bearing on the rest of the play as far as I can tell--She’s the Haninn of 1998 Ávaxtakarfan. I’m so sorry
I know that she is portrayed by two actresses that alternate lines in the album version of í réttu ljósi:
Valgerður Guðnadóttir, known for being Ariel, Pocahontas, and Mulan in the Icelandic Disney dubs, and known by me as Mara, Klettur’s mom in Hafið Bláa. She is GORGEOUS, and so is her voice.
Selma Björnsdóttir, known for-do I REALLY need to tell you, person who clicked “keep reading” on this 12th iteration of my Ávaxtakarfan gallifreyan project, that she went on to play Eva in 2005 Ávaxtakarfan? Well...if you didn’t already know, now you do. And just two years prior to this, she was the original Solla Stirða from Áfram latibær, and ALSO has been many Icelandic dubbed Disney Princesses like Valgerður.
Iceland is a small country, what can I say.
So, who’s up for another round of Horrifying Implications??
The Pumpkin has the ability to do THIS!
She just...SINGS í réttu ljósi like this, like she didn’t just RIP HER ENTIRE BODY OPEN. I mean, I know WHY, it’s because when she’s in it she looks like she’s drowning in the deep end of a pool and I bet its hard to sing out of it, but I can’t stop thinking about a regular goddamn pumpkin just EVISCERATING itself and the core and the stem singing a song at me. Is the outside flesh of a pumpkin just a covering for the person inside? Is it like Eva’s orange peel wrapping in 2005? Does she sing Litir like this too, or does she stay inside the pumpkin for that??
Also, why does she have a crown on??
The answer to all of these questions is, I don’t know, because Stóra ONLY appears in 1998 Ávaxtakarfan, the cryptid play that is not available anywhere online, and even then she isn’t even mentioned in the main part of the play. She is a cryptid of a cryptid, and a huge mystery, and also I love her.
The last shot of 1998 Ávaxtakarfan! Can’t see Gedda or Palla or Eva, but it’s a good view of those we can see, it ends strong.
2005:
In this version, there is no Stóra, so Gedda is the one who sings í réttu ljósi. Honestly, this way is more...fitting, in my opinion, because she’s the one who did the heavy legwork to bring everybody together. However, she still DOES get a costume change, and it IS reminiscent of Stóra.
She comes out and captivates everybody with her song, and she looks GREAT while doing it.
And if I could indulge my ship a little here....
“SING YOUR HEART OUT IM SO PROUD OF YOU” --Mæja, probably
Another fun thing about 2005 Í réttu ljósi, is everybody in the background is having a great time during the verses, for example:
Immi bouncing on this thing that just says “HOP!” on it,
Palla discovering, along with Immi and Guffi, that the weight is TOO heavy for her....
And Græni looking at his reflection in Eva’s mirror.
Of course the camera focuses the last shot on two of the big Eurovision stars...but there’s Mæja hand in hand with Gedda so all is right here.
(Fun fact, this exact screenshot I took when I barely, barely finished subtitling the entire play, and I felt very celebratory at this moment)
2012:
The strange thing about 2012 as a whole, despite continuing to have Birgitta Haukdal, is that especially musically it takes a LOT of elements from the 1998 play. The way that Farðu burt and Vaxtarlagið are, instrumentally, the deletion of Immi Verst, there are a lot of parallels from 1998 to 2012, like 2005 was some sort of fever dream that was mostly forgotten about. But even so, there is no pumpkin-esque costume change here for Gedda, possibly since she isn’t the only one singing the main lines this time.
That’s right, this is yet another example of Mæja Litla Song Thief, back at it again. But in this one, she doesn’t take ALL the lines, she and Gedda alternate lines in the verses like Selma and Valgerður do in 1998 (look at that, more parallels), and during one line, they even duet.
And ABOUT that duet line....remember back in the Fandalaggahoj post where I talked about Mæja and Gedda having a little moment in Í réttu ljósi that I was gonna get to later? Well, later is right now.
Context: Gedda’s line right before this was “if looked at in the right light you’ll see, what really gets a little heart to beat”. Then Mæja sings the “Ef horft er á í réttu ljósi” (”If it is looked at in the right light”) by herself, and then...
Gedda and Mæja look into each other’s eyes, hold hands, and sing “Hvers vegna ást er eitthvað sem allir þrá” together, which basically means “Love is something that everyone longs for”
HELLO???? WHEN’S THE WEDDING???
Also, check this weird thing out:
This is literally how it ends, they say the last “allir sem einn” after this, and all I can think of is that one birdsrightsactivist tweet:
Immanúel Aðalsteinn Ananas, we JUST talked about how everybody is equal :[
The last shot of this one is quite nice, though, Immi Ananas’ spotlighting notwithstanding.
Finally, after three iterations, all of the characters are in the final shot!! They did it!!
And that concludes this Ávaxtakarfan Gallifreyan project!! It’s very bittersweet being at the end of this project, because I will miss doing these posts, but maybe someday in the future I will think of another reason to do more of them for another topic. If you are reading this, thank you so much for sticking with me throughout this project, I really appreciate that people are continuing to read these big rambly infodumps, even if it’s just a few of the same people every time, Ávaxtakarfan is really important to me and I am so happy that I can share it with people <3 I hope you all learned something.
So keep in mind, everyone is special in their own way. Thank you for listening.

Fun bonus: í réttu ljósi, from Birgitta Haukdal’s 2004 album Perlur, one year before she was to play Gedda in 2005 ávaxtakarfan

Final Project: Female Icons in Disney
For generations now Disney films and series have had female leads that it’s viewers, young and old have adore. From Snow White to Moana, Disney Princesses inspire but also give way to stereotyping its females in their films. Many different factors impact the stereotypes from age to race in their respectively stories. “Disney’s cocktail of morality, stereotypes and a sprinkling of magic had any lasting impact on this generation of adults who, once upon a time, devoured these films as children? And could it be influencing how your colleagues behave in the workplace or even your future career?” (Martyn Griffin) Why are the antagonists in princess stories either ugly stepsisters or old witches & fairies? However, through the years we have seen a shift of Disney princess &leads going from damsels in distress to becoming their own hero being able to save themselves with no outside help needed.
When watching some Disney princess films, you start to notice different tropes and similar patterns of how most the girls in Disney grow up motherless. Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine, Ariel & many others do not have mother or a positive older woman figure to look for guidance. “In shorthand, it's much quicker to have characters grow up when you bump off their parents. Bambi's mother gets killed, so he has to grow up." [Don Hahn]. By not having a mother/parent to help guide them in their life/quests they are force to take responsibility for themselves but others as well.
In contrast the Disney movie “Brave” tells the story of princess Merida with her mother that is forcing her to get married against her wishes. Merida decides to run away from home to keep her freedom which leads her to find a witch who can change her fate. However, this turns out to be a mistake because the potions that was supposed to change her fate, give her freedom turned her mother into a bear! We see Merida and her mother struggle to undo the spell bringing them closer together to find a compromise to problem.
Her story is one of the few that shows a full family and how they all impact one another life.
The result of this shows that princesses that come from broken families can still find happiness on their own from the friends they meet on their journey but within themselves as well. The best Disney story example of this is in movie “Frozen” where two sister princesses Elsa and Anna lost their parents at a young age and only have each other to rely on. Elsa becomes queen of their kingdom but struggles with her magical powers afraid they will go out of control. She leaves her sister and the kingdom, but Anna goes on a journey to bring her sister back and shows that she isn’t a dangerous to those around her, that they are in fact her strength. So even without a perfect family they can still find happiness within themselves, their friends and their kingdom. That is one of the reasons why there is a lack of mothers& parents in general in Disney films we watch as the princess protagonist struggles with doing what is right making mistakes along the way but learning from them.
We see in princess movies not only heroines but female antagonists who are shown as ugly and old. The sea witch from the little mermaid, the evil/dark fairy from sleeping beauty showing us that older women shouldn’t be trusted. In the movie “Tangled” we learn early in the story that Rapunzel was kidnap by Mother Gothel so she could use Rapunzel healing abilities all to herself to make her young and not to age. Watching we see that Mother Gothel doesn’t care for Rapunzel only using her for the power she holds, showing us that older women can become evil to get what they want. Ursula the sea witch from the little mermaid also uses Ariel’s talent of singing while Ariel gets human legs. Ursula is fat& ugly & an older woman putting a negative view of people with these traits. That if your fat, old and ugly that makes you evil and unapproachable. Someone people may see someone with these traits and thinking about to Disney villains and end up treating them badly. This is the impact that Disney films can have on kids growing up, watching these films.
One of the biggest themes shown in Disney films is when the character is forced to grow up and become an adult. Many of our heroines are in their early/late teens where in real life teenage struggle with the concept of what does it mean to grow up. A good example of this struggle is in the film “Peter Pan” where the oldest daughter Wendy is being told she has to grow up and not stay in the nursery with her younger brothers anymore. This distresses Wendy and her brothers; they don’t want her to grow up and leave. Peter Pan comes flying in and takes them to Neverland! Where they can play& have fun all day long! Never having to worry about growing up. Once they get to the island, they learn that it’s okay to be serious and mature sometimes because when you play around too much and ignore your responsibilities you can get in trouble and hurt others.
In the last few films, we have slowly seen a more positive shift in Disney princesses being able to defend & fight for themselves instead of assigning that role to the princes of Disney. The heroines get tricked or threaten the old evil witch so then the prince comes in to rescue her to become the hero in the heroine own story. We see this twisted way of assigning certain “roles” to characters depending on their gender
In the movie “Beauty and the Beast” we watch as Belle gets weird looks and people in her town talk bad about her because she can read books. Women were supposed to know how to read, their roles were to cook, clean and take care of children, not waste their time reading and learning new things. This can negatively impact children showing girls shouldn’t waste their time becoming educated but get to married and have their husband/ a prince take care of them. On the other hand, we see Gaston who suppose to represent the ideal “look” of what a man should be like. This shows little boys that you must be strong, confident, and good looking to become perfect, to get the things you want in life.
Eight years later Disney releases the film “Mulan” that challenges social norms, and all previous films Disney has made. The story of Mulan is about a girl who decide to protect her father& family by joining the army as a man. The story shows us that girls can be just as brave, confident and good at fighting as men! The men in the story acknowledge her talents and she save not only her family but her country as well. Mulan shows young girls and boys that girls can be the hero in their own story! That girls can save themselves & others while fighting to protect what is important to them, to do what is right even if it’s difficult, with the right mind set & enough hard work you can make a change!
In the end the company Disney is in the movie business to make money, however their target audience is children. Little kids are very impressionable what little kids watch is what they will act out and try to behave like. "Disney is quite pervasive within our modern culture,” says Martyn Griffin, an expert on the cultural perceptions of work and organization at Durham University in the UK. “Home videos exposed kids over and over again to the ideas in Disney films. If they were doing this from a young age it is bound to have an impact.” When I was younger watching Pokémon one of the girl characters in the series was very girly and should always take care of her hair and try to look her best, so I tried to imitate that, to try and always look pretty & perfect with my hair. Disney has started to take steps in the right direction with films like Frozen, Moana and soon Raya which show little kids that girls can fight& defend themselves that they don’t need a man to come and save them. Boys don’t have to be the hero, don’t have to be strong and confident but gentle and kind. Those type of lessons and traits need to be included in their films moving forward for future generation of children.

⠀⠀⠀❝SHE WAS TRULY A PUZZLE BUT GOD FORBID ANYONE WHO TOOK HER FOR A GAME❞ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⁞ ◜ISSA INTRODUCTION FOR YAELIS XIOMARA MANRIQUEZ
trigger warnings include drugs, overdose, self-harm, physical & emotional abuse, attempted suicide, child pornography, unconsitional sex / rape while under the influence, child-selling ( ?? ).
originally from westerville, ohio, rosario carolina dolton was the healthy newborn baby girl to chester dolton and jimena hernendez, two sixteen-year-old teens who were definitely not ready for not a baby. jimena was gonna go through thick and thin to make sure her daughter will be living well. unlike her, chester just couldn't handle the responsibility. when turning 5 months, chester insisted on taking rosario for the day, to spend some daddy/daughter with her since he was never around. that same day was when the baby turned into yaelis xiomara manriquez, the daughter of wealthy casino and nightclub owner vincent manriquez and his wife, screen writer, and director yolanda favela-manriquez in new york city.
because the married couple couldn't reproduce on both sides of the house after having their oldest son ( WANTED CONNECTION ; LOOKS LIKE NOAH CENTINEO BC IM FUCKING TRASH FOR THEIR SIBLING RELATIONSHIP ) since they decided he was it, it killed them to not have a daughter. they didn't just want any little girl, they wanted a practical newborn, and that's when mrs. manriquez came across rosario and her birth mother jimena on social media. she wanted, no NEEDED this baby to be hers, and whatever his wife wanted, she was gonna get.
turning 6 years old in the manriquez residence was honestly any little girl's dream. it was princess themed, having pocahontas and mulan show up to her party because, in her mind, they didn't "get enough credit." the family went all out for her; 3 layer chocolate cake covered in brown, white, and yellow frosting with a candle of an exact replica of the bird from pocahontas on top. it was memorable, her most favorite memory til this day. the little girl didn't know that this was when things for her were gonna go down the drain.
she had this nanny, a woman she could've considered a second mother to her. since yolanda was almost barely ever home, they bonded the way that a mother and daughter should. some things did ring alarms in her head, like when the older woman would kiss her on the lips and they linger for too long, or when she would join her in the bath but tell her to never tell anyone. one night when it was just the two of them awake, the nanny asked yaelis to do some weird things. she asked her to get undressed, smile wide and pose for the camera.
it wasn't til a month later that police raided the 2 story mansion after getting word that explicit photos of their little girl were floating over the internet and being posted on adult websites. the sites were taken down immediately, and when tracking down the person who posted them, it led them back to their address. unaware of what was happening, the parents were slightly afraid that they were there for other business, but were proven wrong when a laptop that belonged to the nanny was obtained with the illegal and disgusting photos.
the manriquez household was turned upside down for the next three weeks, reporters following them to harassing their kids, spotlight staying on the family of four. the pressure of having his business getting shut down and to have his actual plan behind it all come to light was weighting vincent down, which resulted in him basically treating yaelis like she was no longer one of his own. he would belittle her small mind, pop her arm too hard that was leave a bruise and shove her until she fell. the 6-year-old was confused, scared, but more importantly, she was hurt. she felt alone. and she kept it buried up inside of her, tucked somewhere so deep that even if she did wanna think about it, her mind wouldn't allow her to.
now at the age of 11, yaelis was inspired to become everything; a dancer, singer, artist, accountant, magician. her little heart just wanted to have it all. dancing brought her into the world ballet, tap, salsa, hip hop while singing gave her the life of country, jazz, classical, and blues. pop stood out for her, so that was what she mainly had her mind set on. going into middle school was when some people started to begin to remember the name that was all over the news for weeks. they would call her "dumb" and "slutty", laugh at her and poke at her tiny figure to make her squirm uncomfortably ( fun fact; this is the reason why she HATES being tickled ) to get a reaction. it led all the way to high school, which messed with her mind in too many ways.
freshman year. two words that will automatically make the black-haired femme go off like a firework. this was when trust, genuine care, and friendship went up in flames. these words are no longer in her vocabulary, along with chill. she was invited to a junior party by a close friend of hers who stuck by her since seventh grade. she caught the eye of a senior and got her drunk to a point where she could barely see straight. they filmed him "sleeping" with her and put it on the school's website, labeling her a whore. the thing that fucks with her so much is that she was aware of what was happening. she was frozen, stuck in an out of body experience. sometimes she has nightmares about it.
she had enough. and at the age of 16, she tried hanging herself in her walk-in closet. the maid, however, was able to find and stop her before she was able to jump. that didn't stop her though. sophomore year she tried to OD on pain killers and sleeping medication. her close friend made her throw them up, landing her in the hospital on suicide watch. she also attempted to drown and suffocate herself, yet that didn't work. so she resulted to self-harm. she's not afraid to show them to the world now because it made it a huge impact on how she viewed life.
cutting the main artery, she nearly ended her life if she wasn't already in the hospital. no one knew what to do with her, so she became this evil person, praying to god's name that things will work out for her sometime soon. she never wanted to end up like this, but it just happened.
now, she's just unapproachable without trying to get you to leave her. to make you hate her guts, to wish she was no longer there. she loved it, she soaked in the hatred and fueled herself up to hate the world. if only she knew that this was gonna be her downfall instead of her rise.
HEADCANONS
her parents are republicans while she's a democrat. she did vote for hillary and stayed locked up in her penthouse for 2 weeks drinking alone.
she does heroin and bath salts when she's feeling stressed and has no one to talk to.
is a great chef. loves cooking cuisine meals but settles for burgers and pizza. fun fact, she loves making homemade pizzas. it's her favorite past time.
sleeps on the left side of the bed because she remembered that she was sexually assaulted on the right side and forbids to even sit other there.
a lover of all sea creatures and aquariums. favorite animal is either an otter or sea turtle. her fascination with them started with finding nemo.
speaking of which is a secret fan of disney movies. was shooketh to the core after watching descendants 2.
is quite the reader / writer. novels and autobiographies are her all time go-to's when needing something to read.
nathan drake fan. refuses to finish 4 because she's in love with rafe and doesn't want to kill him. secretly wishes they have a 4some and just live happily ever after.
fucking hates crash bandicoot. can never get all the damn apples. rage quits games, especially board games and mario kart. never pick rainbow road in space.
ralph macchio is her sugar daddy in her mind because karate kid and the outsiders fUCKED HER UP.
when she's nice, she avoids all types of eye contact if it's someone she's never friendly toward. if she's lying to someone she cares about, she starts scratching her self-harm marks on the inside of her arm.
when focused, her tongue is usually poking the inside of her cheek or she's pacing around whenever she is while looking over something, like a script or a really good book.
was set on being an atheist but instead became a christian after her grandmother made her come to services after the whole nanny incident.
she's still considered a missing child in ohio til this day and her birth mother is still looking for her.
her weakness for falling for your muse? bubbles. she freaking loves them, especially the big ones where you can just run and it forms by itself.
chocolate chip cookies, warm milk, a onesie, and lilo and stitch reruns is how she spends every friday night.
is afraid of thunderstorms, black-outs, and being alone. these 3 things alone will make her hysterical for hours and she won't calm down until she's literally cuddled up with someone and they're humming bohemian rhapsody to her because it's what her birth mom did when that type of stuff took place in ohio.
she's a closeted bisexual because she's afraid of being mistreated even more by her father and being disowned by her mother. the last thing she needs is to have two angry parents, and possible brother, mad at her.
YOU'VE REACHED THE END OF MY LONG INTRO POST AYVUHBECNJ. Her connections page is here. Feel free to like this up so we can plot together! i never went all out for a character like this in months, so i really hope you all love her as much as i do.

Thoughts I had while watching Aladdin
1. Going right into a song is such a strong opening. 2. It's hotter than hot where I live, too. 3. I would 10/10 buy something from human Genie. He's a great salesman. 4. Did anyone else notice the man who gave Jafar the beetle to the Cave of Wonders said he had to slit a few throats? I hope he was joking. 5. I've always wondered what made Aladdin the diamond in the rough. I mean he's a thief, so what makes him worthy of the treasure? 6. "I think I'm gonna have a heart attack from not surprise" Iago is me. I am Iago. 7. Abu: one of the best sidekicks in Disney history. 8. “One Jump Ahead” is the best song in this movie, don't @ me. 9. This is the only princess movie where the princess is not the central character of the movie. 10. Aladdin is probably worthy because he gave his bread to these poor children. 11. I forgot how wonderful he was. He could move up my list for favorite prince. 12. He might be poor but he has a great view of the palace from where he's living. 13. The law says Jasmine has to be married by her next birthday, and the Sultan says she only has three days. What's with Disney movies and people falling in love in three days? 14. Anyone who looks at Jafar can see he's a creeper, WHY would anyone think he could be trusted?
15. If I had a staff like Jafar's, I would hypnotize people into giving me free food. 16. Why hasn't Jasmine ever been outside before? Surely she can go with guards or something. 17. Rajah is the cutest pet. Can I have a Rajah please? 18. This market looks like a lot of fun, tbh. 19. Find you someone that looks at you the way Aladdin first looks at Jasmine. 20. Aladdin is so savvy. I would not have come up with the story about Jasmine being my sister. 21. Jasmine leaping over the wall is so bad ass. She is a great princess. 22. I love that they understand how the other feels even though they're in totally different situations. 23. Jasmine's first few hours out of the palace and she's already about to kiss a stranger. Can I have some of that luck? 24. Jafar: master of sass. 25. You know, in all my years of watching this, I don't think I ever once realized it was Jafar that had Aladdin arrested so he could get him to the Cave. 26. Why is Aladdin only allowed to touch the lamp? If he's worthy enough to be in the Cave, he's worthy enough to take some treasure. 27. "Don't touch anything" says Aladdin, whose foot is touching Carpet. 28. I really really want a magic carpet. Especially one as cute as this one. 29. I am such a sucker for inanimate objects being sentient. It's the thing that Disney does best for sure.
30. This scene with the Cave collapsing and Aladdin trying to escape is so visually appealing. The animation is amazing. 31. Doesn't Aladdin know how a lamp works? I feel like it's common knowledge that when you rub a lamp a genie comes out. 32. Robin Williams really was truly brilliant in this role. 33. Fun fact: the animators animated Genie around the things that Robin said and it was mostly all improv. 34. “Friend Like Me” is so catchy. It makes me want a genie for myself.
35. Aladdin tricking Genie into getting them out of the Cave is 10/10. Love. 36. It's really amazing what goes over your head as a kid. Like the fact that Iago's idea is to kill Jasmine and the Sultan. 37. Or that Genie turned into Pinocchio for a second. 38. There are too many great lines for me to keep up, but everything Genie says is making me crack up. 39. If Jafar can hypnotize anyone with his staff, why doesn't he just hypnotize Jasmine? 40. "But you're so old" YAS, Sultan. 41. I could never decide if I liked "Prince Ali". I guess it's a catchy song but i always felt like it slowed the movie down. 42. The Sultan is easily impressed with all of the fun things Aladdin brought with him. Same. 43. I feel like he should know all the princes in the land though. There can't be that many. Surely royalty knows all the other royalty around. 44. "If she found out I was a street rat she'd laugh at me" not really, dude. She liked you in the market before. 45. Jasmine’s face when Aladdin is talking is my face whenever a guy tries to hit on me, too. Probably why I’m still single.
46. If a stranger showed up on my balcony with a magic carpet I'd probably go without asking any questions too. 47. I'm afraid of heights though so this would probably be a bad date idea. 48. If you don't belt out "A Whole New World" when it comes on, are you even a Disney fan? 49. That was also a gorgeously animated scene.
50. Is it just me or does the place where Aladdin and Jasmine end up look like the ending of Mulan? 51. Fun fact: whenever Aladdin lies, the feather on his hat falls down to cover his face. 52. Why do the guards listen to Jafar anyway? Why does he have any kind of power? He's just a royal advisor as far as I know. 53. Genie and Aladdin's friendship gives me life. 54. "Speechless, I see. A fine quality in a wife" damn, Jafar. That's savage. 55. Aladdin figured out in two seconds about his hypnotic staff when he's been using it on the Sultan for years. 56. Abu, Carpet, and Genie being all sad makes me so depressed. Stop being mean Aladdin. 57. No one wants to check where Aladdin came from to make like a royal trade or agreement or something before he gets married to Jasmine? What if he had commitments or actually had to rule a place? 58. I feel like Jafar should not have been able to have Genie grant him wishes or become his master when Aladdin still had wishes left and was still the master himself. 59. I went to Disney and met Aladdin and Jasmine once and I had a toy tiger for them to sign and the Aladdin was like "this looks like the time Jafar turned Rajah into a mini Rajah" and it was the greatest moment of my life.
60. Jafar outed Aladdin like Jasmine would actually care, since she liked both him in the market and him as a prince. 61. I would not survive ten seconds in snow like that even in a fur coat. 62. I think this is one of my favorite climaxes in a Disney movie. It's so intense. Jasmine flirting with Jafar is honestly super brave. He's so gross. And creepy. And old. And evil.
63. If I saw a snake that big I would run for my life and forget about Jasmine. 64. I know this is like the tenth time I've said this, but Aladdin really is so clever. I feel like he doesn't get enough credit for it. I could never think of half the things he did. 65. Jafar as a genie might be more terrifying than Jafar as a snake. 66. But also baby Rajah is so freaking cute. 67. Jasmine loves Aladdin after one date and like two days? While it's cute and I love heir romance it's a little weird. 68. Aladdin wishing for Genie's freedom makes me cry every time. 69. His happiness makes me happy. 70. I wonder why he never developed friendships like this with any of his other masters. 71. The Sultan is adorable and I love him. 72. Genie wanting to travel the world is actual goals. 73. What a honeymoon on Carpet, am I right? They can literally go anywhere. 74. Wow this was a short film. 75. This was so much better than I remember and might make my top five Disney movies now.

Disney Princesses Inspired Legacy Challenge
So. Because some people believe that all the Disney princesses are the same, I decided to create this challenge in order to prove that they all have unique personalities and traits that make them special. I hope I managed to do that. Have fun
oh and I KNOW THAT THE FACT THAT ARIEL IS ACTUALLY KILLING AND EATING FISH IS WEIRD but I found it kind of funny.

Shiratorizawa boys as sons of fairytale characters?
Sen: Can you hear me screaming? I’m screaming. Definitely am. This is mostly based off of disney princesses and the like since surprisingly I don’t know that many fables but this was really fun to write out! It’s a bit of a mix of the original stories and the disney version so do forgive me if it seems inconsistent.
Current song
Ushijima
Mulan: He’s strong and barely needs to depend on anyone to succeed. Their emotions are kept down quite a bit but that doesn’t mean that he won’t acknowledge his friends and tell them how much he cares for them. He looks up to her so much. She plays a big role in him coming to terms with his own identity and accepting other people since she does obviously does not conform to conventional gender roles and teaches him to be strong yet in touch with who he is as a person.
Semi
Beauty/Belle: An almost flawless appearance is a predicate for the son of Beauty as well as the gift of knowledge. He’s learned not to judge things by their appearances as well, having been told how his parents met (what a wild journey). Despite the fact that his life is pretty much solved, living in a castle with servants to attend to his needs, his mother makes sure that he doesn’t get too lazy. He’s hardworking and always tries to better himself, taking full advantage of all the books that his parents have collected over time.
Reon
Issun-boshi: It’s weird to think that your dad was once no more than a few inches tall but fortune’s granted him that he wouldn’t inherit his father’s previous height. They share a sense of bravery and duty towards others, a value which he prides himself on. He’s learned not to judge others based on appearances and initial impressions. He doesn’t gain some sort of extraordinary talents or abilities from his father, but instead a found appreciation for the little things (no pun intended) is instilled in him.
Tendou
Alice: Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back. Tendou questions everything and gets into all sorts of trouble but not just out of seeking mischief. He wants to find out the mysteries that life could solve but it doesn’t always happen in the most conventional of ways for him. He’s got great intuition and judgement, but this mostly comes from his past experiences. He learns quickly and tries everything out at least once. Tendou’s a risk taker that sees life through a kaleidoscope rather than through a looking glass; don’t expect him to sit by and just watch.
Goshiki
Rapunzel: Luckily he didn’t get the whole magical hair thing (no matter how much he wanted it as a kid), but what he did learn from his mother was to always try to satiate his ardent curiosity. Some may say that he never grew out of his child-like view of the world but he’s a bit stubborn and thinks that it’s better to get out into the world rather than look at things from the surface. He’s learned to appreciate the little things in life that his mother didn’t have at first.
Shirabu
Ariel/The Little Mermaid: He didn’t end up listening to his parents. Seems like defiance is something that runs in the family, but it’s not malicious or harsh in any way. He just wants to see what more there is to life. Feeling like he doesn’t even belong with those on land and under the sea is weird, something that nobody else but his mother can relate to. However, he’s at least glad that his curiosity is never misplaced in things that have gotten him into trouble. Yet.
Kawanishi
Sleeping Beauty: Legit, all he does is sleep so it’s not surprise that the traits get passed down. He’s also someone who’s a lot more calm and tame in comparison others. However, he has deep family values because of his mother. There is no greater place to him than home and he makes sure to let his family know that. Though, he’s not the best at expression, the message eventually comes across in some ways.
Yamagata
Goldilocks: It seems like he just got passed on bad luck. Not only is he misplacing his phone a lot, but he himself gets lost pretty much every time he goes somewhere he’s been to only once before. Why couldn’t he have been the son of a different fable instead of just ending up with random bears chasing him every other week. He doesn’t mean to piss them off, it just sort of happens.

Evolution of Disney Princesses theory
Guess who’s back with another theory? Me! How did you know? Anyways, I’m going to be taking a break with my Harry Potter theories and venture out to one my childhood's fondest memories. Yes, Disney. More specifically, Disney Princesses.
Like every single living organism on this planet, everyone (even your beloved film characters and TV series) goes through a form of evolution. In this theory, I am going to be talking about the “Evolution of Disney Princesses” and how they adapt to our ideas of what a Disney Princess should be.
But before we get into all of that, we need to answer: how does one become a Disney Princess?
Simple, really. (sarcasm).
Each Official Disney Princess must meet the following requirements: A) has a primary role in a Disney animated feature film, B) is human or mostly human-like (e.g. Ariel), and C) does not appear primarily in a sequel. The actual title of Princess (or equivalent) is not necessary but certainly, helps.
Then, if they pass the requirements above: there’s more! Whereas the first set of requirements required you to meet all three, in part b) you only have to meet one of these criteria. A) You have to be born royal or B) you must be born royal or C) perform a significant act of heroism.
Then, the final test. The unspoken rule. Box office revenue.
As of 2017, the eleven characters considered part of the franchise are Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida.
Fun Fact: Tinkerbell was revoked of her Disney Princess membership.
Disney Princesses are a massive thing for every young girl. They are role models for the next generation and as generations and generations pass, the ideas of roles of a Disney Princess becomes different.
Classic Era:
These are your “reactionary” princess who saw a lot of action but didn’t do much about it. They are very dependant of basically everyone else and victimised a lot - feeding into the stereotypical “women”. Granted, this was princesses that represented the era that “girls should be seen and not heard.”
Snow White
Snow White is the first and original Disney Princess. Snow White is a beautiful young princess, described by her evil stepmother's Magic Mirror as having 'hair as black as ebony, lips as red as the rose, skin as white as snow' and also dubbed by the Mirror as the 'Fairest Of Them All'. Then, somewhere along the movie, she seeks refuge in the Seven Dwarfs, eats an apple from an insecure witch and is saved with a true love’s kiss. Disney regards Snow White as kind, sweet and respectful, encouraging children to, "be a friend to all," in the same way she is depicted in the film.
Cinderella Cinderella is the second Disney Princess. She is often considered the "Leader of the Disney Princesses". Forced into servitude by her evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and her two cruel stepsisters, Drizella and Anastasia, after her father's death, her only source of happiness was her animal friends, which consists of birds and mice. While scrubbing the floors of her late father's mansion, an invitation to the Prince's ball is delivered, inviting all of the eligible women to attend so that he can find a wife. And, you know the story. There’s a godmother, a clock, about a dozen of songs and a glass slipper thrown into there.
Aurora Aurora is the third Disney Princess. She first appeared in Disney's 16th animated feature film Sleeping Beauty (1959). To be perfectly honest, I actually forgot what this movie was about. Blah blah, blah, a princess was born. Blah, blah, blah, the Holy Trinity appears in a fairy form. Blah, blah, blah, she gets cursed how she’s going to prick her finger on her 18th birthday. Ouch. Blah, blah, blah - she does. Blah, blah, blah, prince charming comes with a true love's kiss. Oh, what an excellent plot convenience.
Renaissance era:
Then, Disney introduced these princesses that had more independence, more complexity and depth in their character - challenging social norms (well done for being bold Disney.) Sure, they still had their critics but not as much as the classic eras.
Arial:
Mermaid. Sees the human world. Trades for voice to an octopus in order to experience the human world. There’s a prince in there sure but still, we see a more feisty and independent woman who wants to take charge of her own fate. You go, Arial!
Belle:
Everyone knows her. Her story can be best summed up by this mantra - “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Pretty sure there’s a handsome beast in there (who she helps saves), talking objects and Emma Watson thrown in there. But really, Belle is an independent, intelligent, headstrong and courageous princess - again challenging society and social norms.
Jasmine:
There’s a genie. Three wishes. A castle. The songs are amazing. Jasmine, despite she’s so independent and headstrong still has red flash marks as she “seduced” the villain or something and still depends on a man. Though on the positive side, she does challenge authority. Actually, her dad. Actually, that might not be a good message to parents after all. Oh well, still a great fairy-tale from Disney.
Pocahontas:
If you ever want to see an inaccurate, loved-up, innocent version of racial domination, you got it in Pocahontas! But seriously, her independence and bravery need to be commended.
Mulan:
She also does not fit in with the expectations of a young Chinese girl of the time; despite her natural beauty, she is clumsy, outspoken, and independent rather than graceful, silent and demure. After her meeting with the matchmaker ended in chaos, the matchmaker claimed that even though she had the looks of a bride, she would never find a match. However, her courage, intelligence, and determination helped her through her adventures, in which she disguises herself as a male soldier in order to fight in the Chinese army in place of her wounded father.
Modern Era:
Get ready to see a storm of feisty and confident princesses who actually kick-ass!
Tiana:
Tiana offers a new perspective as simply a hard-working woman who bears no reliance on a man. She gets turned into a frog. Then becomes a human again. She then fulfills her dream to open a restaurant. She also does marry a prince but that’s not her intention in this movie - marrying a prince for her was just a “bonus.”
Rapunzel:
A princess. Long, blonde hair. Teams up with a thief called Flynn and go on a magical journey to see the lanterns and to escape the tower that her stepmother forces her to be in. We learn freedom.
Every girl’s dream. :)
Merida:
First Disney Princess to not have a love interest nor to sing in Brave. A huge achievement on its own from Disney. The best way of putting it: she is basically like Katniss Everdeen without actually competing in the Hunger Games and instead tries to reverse the spell that landed of her mother into a bear.
If you want to learn more about the history of Disney Princesses: I strongly recommend you to check this site :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Princess in which I got a lot of this information from.
As society progresses, our ideals for a Disney Princess changes. Who knows? Maybe we will have a LGBT+ Disney Princess, a plus-sized Disney Princess or even just an ordinary person - you don’t have to be royal to be a princess. (or something corny like that.)
Additionally, from the complaints Disney got about their line-up of Disney princesses, they teamed up with Kate Moss and created a poster called “The Princess Principles.”
It’s actually quite a clever advertisement endorsement. Checkmate, Disney. But you can’t deny, the poster DOES look pretty.
It actually sorts of makes sense. I would prefer to be blunt and say “thy shall not kill” but you know, each to their own.
Edit #1 - 26/06/2017: So, I was walking and I saw this awesome display board at my college. It was basically pictures of Disney Princesses with motivational quotes such as, “off to work we go!”, “you got to dig a little deeper”, “i am not a prize to be won” to show that Disney Princesses are role-models despite their heavy criticism (as we discussed the Classic Era). I feel like the need for this display board was mainly due to geographical factors. I live in a poverty-deprived area where a small number of people go to higher education and universities and such, and so, this display board was made just to inspire us - seeing that I attend an all-girls-school. I still have multiple theories in my mind about who was responsible for this display, none of which I confirmed. Either way, I sort of love this display board and the idea behind this was pretty damn cool.
MY FRIEND: What are you doing?
ME: Can you move?
MY FRIEND: Why?
ME: I’m trying to take a picture of a Tumblr post.
MY FRIEND: What’s Tumblr?
Me: *sighs*
Avoir un lieu magique et une journée incroyable!

Epic Movie (Re)Watch #109 - Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Spoilers Below
Have I seen it before: Yes
Did I like it then: Yes.
Do I remember it: Yes.
Did I see it in theaters: Yes.
Was it a movie I saw since August 22nd, 2009: Yes. No.
Format: DVD
1) The early 2000s have a lot of truly underrated gems, especially from Disney. Along with The Emperor’s New Groove and Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire is probably one of the most underrated and overlooked films in their catalogue. Which is a true shame because it is such a great film.
2) This film opens with the city of Atlantis being washed away by a great flood, but if there was originally an alternate opening featuring vikings with the Shepard’s Journal in search of the fabled city. I prefer the opening we have, but you can watch the viking prologue if you want.
youtube
3) Michael J. Fox as Milo Thatch.
I saw this movie when it first came out in June of 2001. I fell in love with Back to the Future in February of 2009. So when I realized Marty McFly and Milo Thatch were one in the same my love for this film only grew. Fox brings a sincere enthusiasm to Milo, and like with the best voice acting you forget that you’re listening to Michael J. Fox. He BECOMES Milo, the guy who has to deal with everyone doubting him while still clinging true to his beliefs. It is a great character supported by an incredible actor.
4) There is a nice juxtaposition between how Helga sets up Mr. Whitmore (“Don’t worry, he doesn’t bite. Much.”) and the quirky little nut Mr. Whitmore actually is.
An enigmatic man who I would’ve liked to know more of, Whitmore is a little eccentric but comes off as a good hearted man. His relationship with Milo’s grandfather seems to be the defining thing in his life, so much so that he’s funding a multi-million (1914 million) dollar expedition to find a myth. John Mahoney (best known for the role of Frasier’s father on Frasier) gives a strong performance in his little bit of time, but this film is filled with strong voice over performances so it is no wonder his stacks up.
5) This line was improvised by Michael J. Fox:
Milo [after he throws up from being seasick]: “Carrots. Why is it always carrots? I didn’t even have carrots!”
6) Animated films tend to be short and with the added benefit of exaggeration need to establish personalities of supporting characters IMMEDIATELY. This is very true of the expedition’s crew. This starts with Jim Varney as Cookie, a hillbilly type who fits Varney’s comedic styling very nicely. Varney passed away before filming was complete, leaving some lines to have a stand in, but his life is in Cookie all the way.
Helga: “The men need their four basic food groups.”
Cookie [holding up three fingers]: “I’ve got your four basic food groups! Beans, bacon, whiskey, & lard!”
7) Oh my god Vinny.
Every line out of Vinny’s mouth is glorious! Voiced by Don Novello, Novello makes Vinny his own in the same way that James Woods made Hades his own in Hercules. I saw a behind the scenes featurette for this film way back when that said Novello improv-d a lot of lines and most of them are included in the film. Vinny is hysterical, with his penchant for blowing things up and dead pan delivery. The crew is made up of a bunch of great individuals & Vinny is no exception.
8) Rourke...
Rourke is the captain of the expedition and - after the film’s twist - turns out to be the main villain. Voiced by James Garner, Rourke is honestly at his most interesting towards the end when he can be a ruthless bad guy. Up until that point he’s a pretty good commander and seems like an honest man. But looks can be deceiving.
9) There are so many jokes you don’t get in these movies when you were a kid (just wait until I do Shrek). For example:
Mole [about his dirt from different countries]: “England must never merge with France!”
10) Although Vinny is awesome, there’s a good chance that Sweets is my favorite crew member in the film.
He’s fast talking, genuinely kind, a good doctor, and when the crew needs to start acting like bad guys he’s the first to abandon Rourke and his selfish quest (although much more quietly than the other characters). Phil Morris - like the other actors - breathes such life and personality into Sweets that you don’t even question that he’s real.
11) I love the wit in this film.
Sweets [presenting Milo with the vials presented above]: “Here, I’m going to need you to fill these up.”
Milo: “WITH WHAT!?”
12) And to round out the crew, Audrey.
Like most of the crew, we learn more about Audrey in a pivotal scene later. But when we first meet her she’s already impressive. Just a teenager, Audrey is the head engineer on the expedition and tough as nails. She knows her shit and is tough as hell, but that’s not why she’s awesome. Well, that’s not the ONLY reason she’s awesome. But more on that later.
13) The Leviathan.
Mike Mignola, the creator and artist behind the character Hellboy, is credited as a production designer on this film. Nowhere is his influence more clearly scene than the leviathan, the mechanical sea beast meant to defend the entrance to Atlantis. It is an impressive feat of imagination and animation, a creature which is truly menacing in both size and design. The leviathan and its attack on the submarine crew could quite well be the best part of this film.
13.5) Why does a science expedition have battle stations? I mean, now we know because they’re mercenaries. But did this not raise any red flags?
14) God bless Packard. I’m not even sure what her role on the ship is besides announcer, but god bless her.
15) The pivotal scene for so many of these characters in this film is when Milo eats with them for the first time and we get their backstory.
Sweets’ of mixed descent, part black part Native American (I believe he said he’s Navajo). He studied to be a doctor when he got enlisted in the army.
Audrey’s father wanted sons, one to run his auto shop and another to become world boxing champion. Her sister has a shot at the title.
Vinny’s family owned a flower shop and when the business next door blew up, “It was like a sign from god! I found myself in that ‘boom.’”
And then of course we get this line.
Milo: “What’s Mole’s story?”
Sweets: “Trust me on this one. You don't wanna know. Audrey, don't tell him. You shouldn't have told me, but you did. And now I'm tellin' you, you don’t wanna know.”
You see THIS is what fleshes out these characters. Its this one scene which makes them more than jokes or stereotypes or archetypes, but real people. We get their conflict, their history. We learn of Audrey’s family, of Vinny’s boredom with flowers, or Sweets’ history in the army. THIS is what makes the film standout in the way it does.
16) Kida.
It’s too bad Atlantis didn’t do too well at the box-office, otherwise Kida might take her place among the official Disney Princess line. Along the same lines as Mulan, Kida is a warrior princess. A woman who can kick ass but also loves her father and her people very dearly. Cree Summer is an accomplished actress in the voice over world, with Kida possibly being one of her finest roles. Kida is tough but never mean, curious but never overbearing, capable but able to form a meaningful relationship with Milo (while also not being too over the top lovey dovey), and just an all around great character.
17) Hey look, its Spock!
Leonard Nimoy has had a number of voice over roles, particularly in the 21st century. Its nice hearing him in this, even if we don’t get to spend too much time with the king.
18) So you know the trope of a 100+ year old vampire forming a slightly weird relationship with a much younger woman?
Well...
19) The betrayal of the crew wouldn’t have hurt nearly as much as it does if it weren’t for the scene where we get all their backstories.
Notably we don’t get the backstories of the two most evil characters in the film: Rourke & Helga. This is when Rourke becomes REALLY interesting and when James Garner has a lot of fun as the bad guy. He’s a brute! A bully! He’s ruthless, pretty much kills the king, beats on Milo when he’s down, all while cracking a jock and flexing his impressive muscles for a 60+ year old man. Rourke doesn’t get enough credit as a Disney bad guy in my opinion.
20) I love this.
Milo [after Rourke asks him to translate better]: “I know, why don’t you translate AND I’LL WAVE THE GUN AROUND!”
I live for heroes telling bad guys who are “in control” to f*** off.
21) The entire crystal chamber scene is just absolutely gorgeous. The early 2000s were noteworthy for frequent mingling of hand drawn and computer animation, with Atlantis being one of the finest examples of it.
Also this shot is gorgeous:
22) I never got this line.
Rourke (after his crew decide to stick with Milo & the Atlanteans): “PT Barnum was right.”
Only now do I know one of Barnum's famous quotes is, "There's a sucker born every minute." And I had to google it.
22.5) Fun fact: Joss Whedon worked on the story for this film! For you Whedonites out there, doesn’t “PT Barnum was right.” sound like a very Whedon-y line?
(GIF originally posted by @marshmallow-the-vampire-slayer)
23) Okay, as a child and even now I was OBSESSED with crystalized Rourke.
Like that image is just very memorable to me, especially after Rourke was supposedly killed by being encased in crystal. It’s too bad we only got a minute or so of it before the airship crashed, but damn that’s just the coolest thing to me. If there are any Kingdom Hearts fans reading this, imagine this: A Rourke boss fight, where after you beat him the first time you have to fight his crystal form and its an even tougher fight.
24) And of course Milo stays in Atlantis at the end, because it is what he and his grandfather sent their entire lives searching for. What would be the point of returning to the surface where either A) no one will believe him, or B) people will believe him and try to take advantage of this culture they found? It’s a great ending which makes a lot of sense.
I love Atlantis. It’s one of my favorite Disney films, but it maybe wouldn’t be if it weren’t so underrated. If you’re a fan of action, adventure, Disney, animation, or heck, even Stargate, I think you’ll enjoy this film.

Top 10 Hottest Disney Character (Girl Edition)
Because Disney makes cute girls ok.
DISCLAIMER: Don't expect a list of just princesses. Only about 3-4 are technically princesses (one being kind of honorary.) Also this is just an opinion. My word is my own, don't listen to me. I'm a terrible influence.
10) Nani (Lilo and Stitch)
Wowieeeeee is she gorgeous as hell!!! Look at her, just look at her. Her whole existence is good and wonderful. She's also so relatable because despite raising her sister as if she was a mother, she still has bouts where she's still a young adult and wants to have fun. I love her so much. She's low on the list though because it's been a while since I've watched the movie but know I love her.
9) Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
One of my favorite princesses idk why. I love how she was drawn to have a more sharper look than Cinderella and Snow White, who appear softer and rounder in the face and body. Her voice also kills me, it's beautiful. I wish she had more lines and more singing. Bless this lovely princess. But, side note, why was I not that hot when I was sixteen? I'm nineteen and I still look thirteen. Wtf
8) Lottie (Princess and the Frog)
What a fuckin cutie pie. I love her character and her look so much. She's beautiful and spoiled, but such a sweetheart who wants the best for her best friend. Even if it means not getting a prince. She's such an excited and giddy girl too omg. She's so extra and kind of vain, but still pure and good?? She's a pure blessing and I want her to be with Travis ASAP
7) Tiana (Princess and the Frog)
Look me in the eye and tell me she's not wonderful. She's gorgeous and such a strong, independent soul. She could kick my ass, your ass, and anyone’s ass. Bonus points to her for being a leftie as well bc I am one and that makes me happy. People always say Belle or Pocahontas or Merida is the strongest and take nothing princess, but i disagree. Tiana is definitely the most can do of them all. Also, LOOK AT HER EYES!! They are so beautiful yes yes!!
6) Megara (Hercules)
What a badass she is. A lot of people think she's relatable and I can see why, though I don't think many have that bomb ass figure of hers. (Seriously, that is one tiny fuckin waist.) Not only is she beautiful as hell with a great singing voice (thank you Susan Egan, you wonderful human) but she's such a stubborn and cynical bean who realizes her mistakes and tries to not let them happen again. Everyone adores Meg ok. Don't tell me they don't.
5) Esmeralda (Hunchback of Norte Dame)
LOOK AT HER AND SEE THE GODDESS SHE IS!! Damn, no wonder almost every main man in that movie wanted her. She's definitely “"the finest girl in Paris.” Though I hate that she ends up with generic guy Phoebus, she's still a great human being who cares about Quasi and for people’s rights. My main girl here is a liberal and was willing to die to make a point. That's what iconic is lemme tell you. Also, side note, I love that they gave her thick brows because they are beautiful and work so well for her omg.
4) Honey Lemon (Big Hero 6)
I had to add this dork because I mean??? She's beautiful, tall, and a genius??? Usually when we see a tall, thin girl who wears girly things, they aren't portrayed as “"a genius” but Honey Lemon is definitely the epitome of one. She loves science so much and isn't afraid to show it. She's also so loving and warm, I mean? What a tall bean. And, of course, those sixties inspired outfits! Yes, yes! I love them so much. Protect her.
3) Rapunzel (Tangled)
Rapunzel, to me, is more gorgeous with short hair. I don't know why, but she rocks it well. It's also good to note that this cutie pie has a slight overbite which is wonderful and makes me so happy because I also have one. What I like about her more though is how much Arts of any sort means to her. She's talented and determined and bold. While we see her being so naive a lot of the time, it isn't overdone. I mean, wouldn't we all be the same way if we were stuck in a tower?
2) Jane (Tarzan)
I love this woman so fucking much. Look at that face, my friends, that is a gorgeous and dorky face. Her eyes are a gorgeous color and her hair is slightly messy and realistic to mine when it's up and falling out of its hair tie. Jane does not really give a shit about Clayton which makes me laugh my ass off, she just wants to study animals with her little dad. You can see how much she cares about the jungle, despite the rough start and she doesn't think less of Tarzan because of how he grew up. A plus to her. She deserves the best.
1) Mulan (Mulan)
LOVE OF MY LIFE RIGHT HERE!!! They drew her so beautifully. We always shit on Disney’s style of bodies for their women, but Mulan really is not that small waisted. In fact, Ling is slimmer than she is. Growing up, Mulan did kind of confuse me because I thought she was hot af when pretending to be Ping despite knowing she was a girl? Consider her, one of my earlier realizations of pansexuality. I love how much of a badass she is too. Another representation of someone who could kick my ass. One thing people forget though is that she's still pretty fuckin awkward and I love her for it. She's is brace, family oriented, and ambitious. I will always hold her as my favorite Disney girl. And also as my Disney wife whoops,

Favourite characters
I was tagged by the lovely @bell88x9y to list ten of my favourite characters. Thank you for the tag! Some of these aren’t fandom specifically.
Now, I’ve read a lot, and I’ve watched a lot of TV and films as well, but damn it if this was harder than I could have imagined! No doubt I’ll post this list and then later tonight I’ll go ‘Oh crap, how could I forget such-and-such!’ so... yeah!
Thorin Oakenshield Of course he would be the top of my list. And - this is going to be sacrilege of the highest order - I prefer the Thorin that Peter Jackson and the ever-talented Richard Armitage gave us than the Thorin Tolkien gave us. Thorin is one of my favourite characters because he is so extremely flawed. He is so morally grey, yet what he does, he thinks is done for the good of dwarven-kind. Yet, we are also graced with just how much the Dwarven King-Under-the-Mountain has suffered for his people, and how much he would suffer still to give them a home, as well as how much pain he would DEAL OUT to ensure that his home isn’t taken away from him, all whilst suffering under the curse of gold sickness. Richard Armitage brings this marvellously to life, and honestly I just admire him and I’m so grateful to him for that.
Robert Sugden Yes, he does make the list, and yes, I have recently favoured him over Aaron. Again, because he is morally grey, because his moral compass is sometimes pointed somewhere a little south of north, because he is mightily flawed and sometimes he knows this, but sometimes he doesn’t. And there is an air of mystery to him which I find so fascinating. Robert doesn’t see things in black and white, and that has led him into trouble sometimes, but it also allows viewers to sometimes see things from his POV in a way that they never would have before. Add to this the way that he is a scratched character. He’s not broken but he certainly knows what it is to have a less than sparkling childhood, and it’s something which is still affecting him now. He still isn’t treated to the concept that he is good enough and it’s heartbreaking.
Marsh From the Mistborn series. I was drawn to him first because of the way he felt that he had given all he had to give, and he just couldn’t do any more. And yet, even after he had all but given up, he was persuaded to do one last thing which led to his downfall. Except it didn’t, because Marsh is a Good Guy, but he still struggles against himself most of all. The reason I’m being so vague is because if I was to divulge everything, there’d be spoilers galore. Just know that I am in love with this character, and he is the one I cite when I need to provide examples of minor characters who I care about more than main characters!
Thomas Nightingale From the Peter Grant (Rivers of London) series. Another minor character that I love. Again, he is mysterious. We know next to nothing about Nightingale but that for a good long while he thought he was the last wizard left in London. That, and he is Old with a capital ‘oh’, and again, that just gives him an air of mystery because sometimes we’ll be told through Peter something about his boss, but never enough to build a full picture. Also, in book four we are treated to just how amazingly powerful the man is, and it’s quite spectacular
Mulan She defied every law (both written and unwritten) to stand in her father’s place in a war. She was always brave and outspoken and courageous and fiery, but she found the place where it MATTERED that she was all of those things. She didn’t find it in her old life where she would have been a wife for a man returning from war, she didn’t even find it in the army although she was one step closer there. She found it in herself. Let young girls watch this movie; let them see girls who can be strong, who can do things which people would think them incapable of, let them see that it was only when she was MULAN that she was able to save China.
Miles Edgeworth If anyone has played the Phoenix Wright games, you may well know why I love Miles Edgeworth. He’s a haughty, snobby son of a bitch, with a past that just won’t quit. SPOILERS He was made to believe for years that he killed his own father, a lie which was perpetuated by the man who took him in, whose master plan was to topple Miles from his lofty heights and land him in prison. So yes, I love the angst that comes with this character, and I also love his development: it is through his old friend Phoenix that he realises that honesty is far more important than prestige. And oh my god, don’t even get me started on the Phoenix/Miles pairing! That ship can sail itself. Seriously, if they were the opposite sex then they’d get together by the end of the series but because the gaming company seems to think that kids can’t be exposed to ‘that kind of thing’, they threw in one of Phoenix’s old girlfriends, like give me a break!
Belle Yup, two Disney princesses. Deal with it! (I know that Belle and Mulan come from older stories but I do like the Disney versions of their characters). I love Belle because she’s different from the girls in her town: she’s smart and not just in the book-smarts kind of way either - she knows that Gaston is bad news as much as she knows that she wants something different from life. She sacrificed her freedom for her father (much like Mulan did for her own father), she knew what the Beast was, and she saw past the way he looked and the way he acted, and to the kind person within. I know that ‘Stockholm syndrome’ is passed around when it comes to Belle, but I personally don’t see it that way. I think that she genuinely did fall in love with another lonesome soul, and in doing so she also got the life that she wanted.
Ignis Scientia Anyone who has visited my blog in the past few weeks will know that I am obsessed with Final Fantasy XV, and as amazing as the game is, I do think it’s the characters that keep me coming back to it whenever I turn on my PS4. Ignis Scientia is, again, a minor character. But he has a past which we’re not altogether clear about. He was serving the prince from a young age, he perhaps had to grow up at too young an age, and who can say what happened to the rest of his family? He’s mysterious, he’s witty and sarcastic (the British accent for the English dub was a great choice!), he cares, he’s loyal. And (I’m gonna be vague in case some people haven’t played it, who want to play it) he’s hurt during the game. If there’s one thing I love for my fave characters, it’s to see them hurt, and it delivers. I’m hoping for Good Stuff in the Episode Ignis DLC!
Robin Scherbatsky She’s gorgeous, she’s fun, she’s a little weird, she’s sensitive, she’s kind, she’s witty, she’s sometimes lonely, she’s sometimes walled up. I’m more than a little bit in love with her!
Merida It was a toss up between her and Pocahontas (I almost want to defy the rules and add Pocahontas as number 11!), but I love Merida’s development, and I love the fact that she doesn’t want to marry, I love that she starts as so headstrong and whilst that doesn’t really change, it does get aimed somewhere different. I love the relationship she has with both her parents, and I love that they lead her down completely different paths, I love her independence but her need still to depend on her mother, I love her curly red hair and her Scottish accent, I love that she’s an amazing girl turned woman who knows her own mind and feels that she shouldn’t be dictated to by anyone.
Sorry that that got long. Actually, I’m not that sorry, I love talking about my favourite characters! If you got to the end of this long list, well done! I tag @shonamoyce, @turquoiseterrier, @stulot, @cassiopea-13, @fairytalesdonthaveendings, @heartneverliez (Sorry if you’ve been tagged before! Feel free to ignore this!)
