not exactly sure what date but somewhere within This Week! marks my first 1 year of being an actual NSR fan (and my subsequent upwards spiral since then) so to celebrate i am throwing a BIG PARTY in FESTIVAL PLAZA and ALL OF YOU ARE INVITED!!!!🤑🤑🤑🤑 Just kidding. there is no party. BUT! below the Keep Reading i will share some of my earliest (and somewhat crude) drawings of mayday (and a bit of zuke). it feels like it's been ages since then...

transitional phase....... these range from like november 2023 to march 2024 i believe? in no particular order

fun fact about me; i used to be a Strictly total drama fanartist and i preferred to draw pretty on-model to the very heavily stylized characters in the show. it was kind of difficult going from... that (Hardly ever venturing out of my comfort zone) to the oh-so-scary and intimidating world of No Straight Roads. in order to make art i'd be happy with, i'd have to inevitably get used to THREE-DIMENSIONAL SPAACE and... *gulp...* Dy.. Dy... DYNAMIC ANGLES!!!!!!!

love is one hell of a motivator however. and i love this schtewpid game and i love its world and characters and most of all i love MAYDAY!!! and here i am Today! obviously i still have a long looonngg way to go and much to learn but i've still come pretty far. and i'm pretty proud of myself! 🐊🐊🐊

Jeff, hanging upside down from a tree: *sobbing* Eighteen!

Jeff: Infinity!

Jerk Ford: Good, we're at an understanding. However, just in case- *continues to blow on dog whistle*

(In all seriousness, Jerk Ford would definitely leave with Stanley. They would struggle being homeless in Stan's car for a few weeks or months depending on when they were kicked out, but they both still had scholarships to Backupsmoore so they'd be good once they went to college. Jerk Ford would conduct so many séances around Pines Pawns in the meantime that it would be super haunted forever)

Your art style is very unique it reminds me of professional artist that draws old children stories

What inspired you ?

Thank you so much 😭😭😭 Im honestly very surprised whenever someone says I have any form of a style in what I do, because, personally, I think I am a bit all over the place (which is normal since Im still trying a lot of things out for myself)

First of all, I'm very inspired by Brecht Evens, especially the way he works with color and is capable of showing different light environments through it.

My brain chemistry was also forever changed by the way over the Garden wall artists went about depiction of creepy cartoony stuff.

Also, I've been going though a process of re-evaluating soviet art for the last couple of years. I absolutely HATED it as I child but I had to revisit it for one of my Uni researches and there are actually a lot of fun examples of work with color and shapes there????

i got almost all the next month's updates sketched! i'm not doing the last one simply because i am feeling the burn out of composing these pages. (each have at least 6 pages, a good amount have the max 12!)

that said, these are all just sketched. i want to do it in this order: backgrounds -> lineart -> transcript. i got other projects i need to work on (winning hat and NightFell) so I can't really guarantee when Tag will start to update again.

I can't find it now but there's a post about suspension of disbelief and how it's broken when the story starts trying to excuse it. "character gets knocked unconscious for hours but there's no further issues from this" okay 👍 "and actually this makes perfect sense because of this and that" um no it doesn't why are you lying to me. like i am willing to ignore the holes and the discrepancies!! all you need to do is let me and not bring unnecessary attention to it!!!

and all that is my issue with the whole robin child soldier argument. like i am willing to ignore it i am willing to engage with the fantasy literally all you need to do is NOT try to convince me that Actually It's Fine Because They Want To Do It or whatever. like literally just shut up about it and i can engage with the fantasy!!

I think it’d be really funny if a doctor who writer just added a new time lord chapter, like have the doctor be going on about the time lords and just name a chapter we’ve never heard of before and then go ‘well they��re dead now so it doesn’t matter’ and never mention it again

Heavensward Era

(spoilers for one of the worst-kept secrets in all of XIV below as well as some personal lore for this catboy)

I've been playing around with more of X'vahl's lore between the start of ARR and Endwalker and my brain will not let go of this so allow me to spill some more lore I've been kicking around for him.

So in X'vahl's canon Haurchefant did indeed have romantic feelings for him. It was an open secret and pretty much everyone in Ishgard who knew Haurchefant knew about it. Unfortunately X'vahl did not feel the same way. He counted him as a very close friend but he was still very much in his "I'm not ready for a relationship" mindset as well as some additional "I am not worthy of love" thoughts that had crept their way into his mind. So when Haurchefant confessed these feelings to him, X'vahl, thinking that he could not give Haurchefant the feelings and relationship he deserved in return, gently turned him down. Being the kind of person he was, Haurchefant accepted X'vahl's decision with grace and vowed that he would be happy to simply stand beside him as a valued friend and ally.

Then of course, The Vault happened. Watching Haurchefant die and knowing the feelings he had for him compounded the guilt that X'vahl already would've been feeling at the time. He blames himself for what happened and when he finally gets time alone with his own thoughts, all he can think about was the many different ways that things could've been different and how he could've prevented his death (this is what prompts him to run to the Astrologicum and rush his way through learning how to use healing magic, despite Alphinaud insisting that even had X'vahl been an expert healer there would've been nothing he could've done and magic of any kind is not something one should rush into).

Everyone knowing how Haurchefant felt made them treat X'vahl with an uncomfortable kind of pity that really just made things even worse for him because now everyone is feeling bad for him, meanwhile he's thinking that he's literally the last person anyone should be feeling bad for since he's one of the primary causes of his death in the first place. Like X'vahl just wants to scream every time someone sees him and gets that look in their eyes like they're silently apologizing to him for his loss. Like "NO! STOP! It's my fault that he's dead! I'm the reason Ishgard lost one of it's kindest and most loyal souls! You should be furious with me! You should be screaming at me! Pray The Fury strike me dead where I stand! I don't deserve kindness! Just... give me your pain and rage."

Fast forward to pre-DT and he's in a much better place but then being asked to help with what he sees as another delicate political situation by someone that he's struggling to allow himself to admit that he's developed feelings for and he can't help but have these flashbacks to what happened in Ishgard. He's finally considering allowing himself to be happy again but he's downright terrified of what might happen because he knows if he loses Erenville he might never be able to recover (at the time he's thinking these thoughts, it's already too late for him though because his heart is already in too deep to back out now).

It also makes Estinien noticing that there's something more between X'vahl and Erenville a bit more layered since he definitely knew about Haurchefant's feelings (albeit he was a bit preoccupied with his own situations during HW, that didn't stop him from learning about how Haurchefant felt). I think if he didn't think it would be wildly inappropriate to bring it up, he'd probably tell X'vahl that it would please Haurchefant to know that he had forgiven himself and found some measure of happiness.

I can’t stop thinking of how despite it baffling most non-brits, and most of the Hollywood a-list audience, David Tennant decided to do a skit on his little lockdown rpf show, make a bunch of puns that only people familiar with British culture would get, wear a kilt and be his usual manic self when hosting an internationally prestigious award show
