Everyone is so hung up on enemies to lovers but what about lovers to enemies?

the angst

the suffering

the gradual hardening of the heart as the hero realizes they will have no choice but to destroy the one they love before that person destroys them

I get it, I too enjoy enemies to lovers but there is something painfully delicious in watching it go the other way.
