A President’s Orchid

This orchid hybrid was named after the President and First Lady of the United States of America when they visited in 2013 in his then capacity as the vice president. The image was taken with the Fujifilm X-T2 that gave me quite pleasant colours except that the greens had need to be tamed a bit in post.

For a bit of fun, I came across a guide on how you could extract a lens from a disposable camera (I used the Kodak FunSaver) and install it on a body cap to recreate that 90s nostalgic feel. For these photos, I used the #Porta160 simulation which is similar to the original film they used in those cameras. Overall, I quite like the results (with flaws and all) and intend to keep shooting this setup over time!!

Afternoon Snooze

A King Penguin catching forty winks in the former Jurong Bird Park. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.

A stop of positive exposure compensation was used to lift the shadows of this snoozing king penguin. The camera had to be braced against a handrail as the shutter speed was a mere 1/50 second at ISO3200. Lighting was pretty dim in the air-conditioned penguin pen.
