saw your post about no longer wanting to be a phan blog and i just wanted to say i get you especially the reaction to this tour has been very uncomfortable and i could never figure out exactly why it felt... overbearing ig??? but it has been building and the tour leak and announcement just seemed to put a spotlight on people seem to have learned nothing from the previous years and seem to think that now that they're back it's okay to push their boundaries because they're engaging with us again. and tbh i appreciate you for helping put into words the discomfort ive been feeling and it sucks that it turned out like this that the enjoyment of the thing gets harder because of others

I was so so hoping it wouldn't get like this again

The first 5-6 months of the gaming channel being back were mostly wonderful

Everyone was behaving and respectfully enjoying dnp being back as a duo

I've seen/felt it building up over the past few months but I kept ignoring it because I figured it was just newer phans who didn't know about any of "the lore"

But every time I'd check their page out it would almost always be someone in their mid-late 20s who has been around for 10+ years

I was dumbfounded

if i may explain a bit of the psychology behind the backlash, i think it’s because people have gotten paranoid about media they enjoy

i think that because of the critical re-evaluation of so many pieces of media, people- and mcr fans in particular- have become worried their favorite pieces of media or favorite bands are “problematic” in some way. they don’t want to let their guard down because what if the media they like IS problematic and they’ve been liking something bigoted all this time? no one wants to seem like someone who willfully pretends that everything problematic in a piece of media doesn’t exist because “it’s good”.

so mcr fans criticize the band any way they can. they try to find parts that are problematic so they can be critical, and not seem like a “crazy obsessed fan who thinks the band can do no wrong”. the whole ticketmaster thing was just fuel to the fire.

and i will say that yeah, mcr DID (and sometimes still does) do some weird and sometimes problematic shit, but that shouldn’t damper your enjoyment of the band. as an mcr fan, i’ve learned to take the good with the bad and enjoy the band for what it is. i’m not defending all of their behavior, but i still enjoy their music and their activism against homophobia and transphobia.

anyway yeah. that was my rant. if this was cringe, let me know and i’ll apologize lol

In addition to that, the thing is that, well - I was gonna say "i hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to be an apologist" but fuck it I don't really give a shit what they're gonna think i am, not when i know that what I'm gonna say isn't wrong - when you're a human being producing art which is basically content based on the things that make you human, it's very unlikely, if not impossible, that everything you'll produce is always gonna be flawless, or always reflecting something good about you. People forget that art needs humans to exist and vice versa, and our brains are poisoned with things we shouldn't think about each other and ourselves. Sometimes that just happens to be visible, specially when you're a well known artist. Truth be told, if those anti-fans knew how awful of a person i was in my early teen years, they would be making an insane effort to make sure I'd end up killing myself. They would never recognize my humanity, they'd never see a person who grew up in an environment that lead me to repeating that awful behavior that i was forced to endure and ended up accepting as a norm. I met amazing people in this fandom, and those are the same people those anti fans (I'll call them anti fans because it's just easier and, cmon, it just makes sense) absolutely despose because they, well.. we would be falling into crazy hardcore fan territory. Tell ya what, i prefer being in the hardcore fan territory who's too forgiving than being in the same territory of people who say they would never want to meet gerard because they'd want to hurt them and who make me feel like I'd never be welcome. Specially with my disorder that makes it really hard for me to have a good relationship with people and just the act of socialization in general. It's already hard for me, and my disorder along with my past make it harder because I'm still growing and learning and unlearning things, and I'm incredibly desensitized to a lot of shit. To give you an idea of how far it goes, i thought of tattooing Gerard's knife speech because it genuinely felt exactly like what i feel all the time. Who do you think will be more welcoming? people who are a little too forgiving or people who are actively hunting a reason to treat you like shit?
