OK. I've been in the anti Wavier and anti Xavier Thorpe tag to see what's going on and... Most of them are also anti Wyler and anti Tyler Galpin ?! Wtf ?! Also, what's the problem with people saying that we like bland white heterosexual men... This hatred of men for the benefit of female characters (plus lgbt) gets really annoying sometimes. (And i am a bisexual woman) As long as the character is well-written and interesting, who cares about their gender or sexual orientation ?! I'm seriously sick of this kind of stuff, in addition to coming across posts saying that Tyler is a bland character, summarizing him as a straight, white male (like that's a crime ?), when he is the most interesting character in the series along with Wednesday and Enid !? (And yes, I love Enid ! If Tyler Galpin didn't exist, I would most likely be a Wenclair !)

One thing about what Doohan's said though about Hydes in more than one of these interviews is that "Nevermore doesn't accept them and won't teach them how to control their powers": Françoise was a student at Nevermore. But Hyde powers are too dangerous to be controlled. Anything can set them off, as Fester mentioned that Olga (the fourth* Hyde mentioned in the show) just transformed in the middle of her Chopin performance. Faulkner was killed by one trying to figure it out. I mean come the fk on...if Hydes were too dangerous even though they had Bradbury Tower on the grounds....

Tyler's final full onscreen transformation also had nothing but his rage against Wednesday & Nevermore behind it. He wasn't being commanded by Laurel.

Also the screenshot you posted of that tik tok? It’s the fact that these people are using an AI generated voice of Jenna to narrate their glorified fanfic, something that Jenna is highly against smh.

Well, I use Wednesday's (and other characters' voices, like Jonathan Miller and Cairo Sweet's) to enhance my fic as well; but I am always clear that everything is AI generated (hence my 'jennAI ortega' tag), that it's all fan fiction enhancements and nothing more. "Multimedia fan fiction artistry", is what I like to call it, because my fics often go beyond the writing and into something immersive. I used to do the same in online role playing.

I don't know what Ortega's exact thoughts about her voice being used are, but she is highly against AI photos (pervy ones generated using her underage face; that's what caused her to say that she hates AI). I've done non-pornographic AI to enhance Afterburn ("The Raven" by Donovan comes to mind

as well as a snapshot of Afterburn Wednesday in the Guns N' Roses t-shirt; the triplet of fire for Afterburn 2 photo is based off of one AI photo that I bought the rights to). I think that AI has its place in fandom for those who don't abuse it (like using 'real people voice' vs. character voice, and yes there are distinct differences between Ortega's two characters that I use for mine, vs. her regular speaking voice).

But back to using it to narrate their queerbait. I mean, if the Wenclairs wanna play that game, I can too: There was unintentional Wenovan snuck into this flaming sack of anti-canon, too.

This never fucking happened on screen, but ooo, yay, Mejia threw some more Sheriff-to-Addams contact in there just for thrills:

It's nice to add to Wenovan moments, but it isn't canon and not what happened in the show. Donovan just left her there with his stanky Hyde son, and she seems to have had to have found her way back to school on her own.

(In my fic Donovan takes her back alright...only after railing her 100 feet from the crypt. Fan fiction. My fanon, not canon.)

I could even argue for that addition to be canon since it's much less intrusive to the characterizations (that is very much a canon-compliant characterization of Donovan) with just a small re-write of the scene that does nothing overall.

But then there's this load of crap that I will neeeeeeeever get over, and maybe if people fkn hear it, they'll understand just how bad changing Ortega's lines is:

I will give everything so that in season 2, we are an episode from Tyler's point of view in relation to the events / certain events of season 1. Either because he would think about it or talk about it on Wednesday. It would be terribly interesting and probably heartbreaking.

When I see people recalling Tyler's crimes it makes me laugh. Yes, Tyler killed people. And ? Do you think that makes it impossible to have redemption ? Something tells me this kind of person isn't used to enemies-to-lovers romances in fiction. And then, people forget the whole context around why Tyler committed these murders, namely that he was forced by a psychopath who awakened the Hyde in him, also amounting to a monstrous 2nd personality that she enslaved to let him do what she wanted. We are more of a victim than a master killer and/or manipulation. Yes, because many still like to convince themselves that Tyler never loved Wednesday. People love to forget to think. Literally, it's easy to understand that Tyler has no idea that Wednesday was his mistress' target when he met her. Many Wylers understood this long before the Tyler actor's statements. Between his attitude and the fact that he tried to help her leave town, it seems obvious. And then, without forgetting all the times or during the show, Tyler looks at Wednesday completely in love when she is not looking. Who would he pretend to be for? The spectator? Wednesday isn't the kind of show that requires deep thought, it's pretty standard. So I worry about people who don't understand Tyler's character. Including one of my own friends who is however... very good in her way of thinking about many very complex things. So, wtf ? Also, why do people act like Wednesday could never forgive Tyler ? He has very extenuating circumstances, not to mention that she likes to protect the underdog and that Tyler is the ultimate outcast, even among outcasts. Yes, he tried to kill people she loves, but ultimately they are alive. And again, there are extenuating circumstances. Why couldn't she actually forgive again? I doubt she has such a special attachment to Tyler's other victims that she would never forgive him. It's stupid. She didn't care about these people. And once again, the real killer in the story isn't even Tyler. Tyler was basically just a puppet. Let the antis Wyler and Typer Galpin go fuck themselves frankly.

Thank the gods someone else said it, so I didn't have to. Been thinking about the whole I Can Fix Him/Her thing a lot since it's rife in Wyler 🤢 Maybe even worse with the Wenclairs (love the babies but it's really bad, and then the forced romance shit coming from Wednesday's mouth every time someone tries to write Wenclair is so out of character/OOC that's it's worse than anything I saw in Potter back in the day). But we're talking Wyler/Tyler rn.

I've also been thinking of Xavier and how much he suffered through this hot mess of a storyline. How fucking cruel was it to assign Xavier to do his Outreach Day community service with the motherfucker who assaulted him the previous year? No one seems to have thought about that one enough (except for the writers, who knew what they were doing with that, for once).

I read somewhere that Doohan has said that Tyler didn't know who Wednesday was when she came into the Weathervane to get her quad, but that's bullshit. Tyler was already in deep with Laurel, and Laurel's plans were clear by that point. And when Laurel stated at the end that W was never getting to the train because Tyler was sent to intercept her, that actually also applied to the very beginning...there was no way Laurel would have allowed Tyler to take her to the train station the night of the Harvest Festival either. Him giving her her father's file was a means to manipulate her to stay, not a kindness that she thought that it was. (It was also a clue to shove in her face about Gates' hidden motivations -- since Gomez was accused of murdering her brother. Foreshadowing at its finest.)

Don't even get me started on the inexplicable bullshit that was Woe What a Night. (Wednesday dancing her famous dance with the dude she was just told was a bigot and assaulted an outcast...it's inexplicably stupid and ruins the dance sequence for me. It feels like it was edited poorly, since Wednesday stood there staring at him for the last dance like she had just found out about the assault...it's just a jumbling of what should have happened.) Tyler and his stupid fucking entitlement manipulation. "Oh, you asked the kid I beat the fuck out of last year? But I thought we liked each other!" 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮

Tyler may have been groomed a little (we're led to believe that he's a little older than W, so he's at least 17 or 18) by Laurel, but he was a POS before Laurel. Hell, for all we know, Tyler's Hyde was brought out by the boot camp he was sent to by Donovan and merely brought under control by Laurel. Wednesday's "explanation" in the conservatory was wrong, IMHO, especially since there was no "Galpin Family Secret" when Ansel was alive (Ansel Gates died and orphaned Laurel when she was just a kid...long, long before Donovan ended up with Francie; Tyler was born around 2004, Ansel died close to ~1991 if Laurel was sent overseas as a kid); she had been wrong several times in her conclusions. Prima Mutatio (my own term for the first turning of a Hyde, so I'm just going to use it) is hinted at being something that is not exactly forcefully or purposefully unlocked directly by one person, but by a traumatic event, like childbirth (Francie and her Hyde first coming out). Fester didn't even know what brought out Olga's Hyde when he knew her; that she massacred people during a live performance hints that pressure/nerves/something completely random can bring out a Hyde's Hyde, without them being commanded to kill.

It's pretty clear in the original pilot script and in the nuance of Sheriff Galpin's behavior that he hadn't a clue she was a Hyde until Tyler was born. Tyler's bigotry was picked up somewhere, and (despite the Wenovan moments I've picked out for us in fandom*) Donovan is a (soft) bigot as well, spurred on by the Garrett Gates "murder" and whatever else he experienced in his youth with outcasts. He outwardly groans when he sees the Nevermore outcasts file into the square on Outreach Day...so he is still harboring anti in him. Still, he's bound by his duty as a cop to protect them, and despite her being the daughter of the dude he thought was a murderer, he softened after Episode 5 about Wyler...unknowing(?) that his son was manipulating her all that time. (And already suspecting that he was the Hyde...he knew once the photos came back. Which goes to question: If he knew that Tyler was a Hyde, how could he give them his blessing with Gomez? Seems a bit dangerous and careless to the little thorn in his side, but then again, he also warned Tyler to stay the fuck away from her in Episode 6...not for his sake, but for hers.)

Thank the gods Ortega said that Tyler is off the table for Wednesday as a love interest. I hope she sticks to that, because it would be infinitely worse for the show if she sank into that I Can Fix Him role that fandoms latch onto.

TLDR;

*But Torrrrrrr if you think he's a bigot too, then why Wenov -- SHUSH. Donovan loved an outcast so much that it broke him, and it broke him to fear that Tyler would turn out as violent and fucked up as Francie was. I really hope the new season, if they include Tyler which I think they will, will explore that further. McShane and Ortega had the most chemistry/underlying in their scenes (watch how Ortega speaks with him versus the way she speaks with Weems & other adult authority figures and with her peer characters, or family members...the only other one she speaks to so casually, and the only other one she let her smile out for, is Uncle Fester), they can pull off a backstory on what happened with Francie in a way that might garner Tyler and Donovan some sympathy despite their bigotry, especially if they want to go that "I can fix him" route with Tyler.

The thing about Tyler is the consequence of a general attitude that took over narrative in the last years: the belief that nobody is inherently evil, that there are good reasons why a character does despicable things, and they can be "fixed" making them "good". EG the behavior is the result of something sad that happened to the character, or the character is misguided/lied to/brainwashed, or was traumatized. So if the character is confronted with "the power of love"(TM) and heal their trauma, they will abandon for sure their evil ways.

Also, a lot of people believe that suffering purifies (a very Christian concept, I'm saying it as I was raised Catholic), and that somebody who suffered a lot can't inflict pain to other people; and that if they do horrible things noonetheless then they deserve our compassion because, well, it's not entirely their fault if they are a piece of shit; and sooner or later they will understand their predicament and stop inflicting pain to the others.

It's like the audience (and sometimes also writers and narrators) completely forgot that sometimes people are just rotten and are willing to step on the others for their personal advantage, ot just because it amuses them. Just like in Tyler's case.

I personally think that people can change, but I think you’re correct to an extent. Other than giving them the chance to change, sometimes people are just bad. And yes, sometimes it can be explained with nurture vs nature, but sometimes it can’t be. Two kids can come from the same type of household and come out completely different, yknow? And we have it confirmed that Tyler was a bully. The kids that bully Eugene said he went “soft”. He assaulted Xavier bad enough to get court ordered therapy. He was already a jerk to outcasts before Thornhill came along. She made him worse, that’s for sure, but he was already a bully.

I’m also a believer that people don’t just get a pass because something bad happened to them, except in very nuanced cases. And Tyler very clearly enjoyed what he was doing. He said as much in the police station. He should be held accountable. And until we get more information on Hydes and how they actually work, that’ll be my take.

I mean, in my eyes it was clear that he didn’t care about Wednesday past the attraction that he may have felt when they first met. But he very clearly had fun taking advantage of her. I mean, the dude kissed her, probably knowing that she’d die in a few days. That’s just despicable to me.

Forreal let’s examine this for a second. (And I’m gonna put a disclaimer here right now that I’m not actually an anti of any ship. I think they’re all fine and could be interesting, Wyler is just my OTP).

Enid and Xavier both crack having to deal with Wednesday, and understandably so. Any normal person would. She IS toxic. She literally tells Tyler that she will stomp on his heart and always put her needs first. We are SHOWN this by the way Wednesday always puts her mission first at the expense of everyone around her. She forces Enid and Tyler to break and enter with her and puts them both in line of the Hyde by manipulating them into thinking they’re having a social event she has no intention of going through with, and she accuses Xavier of being a murderer and gets him arrested by the police.

Enid and Xavier cannot deal with this and eventually lash out at her for putting them in dangerous, life-ruining situations. Meanwhile Tyler is like lol I’m good. Sure, this is because he’s got his own manipulative plot in mind, but THAT’S THE POINT. He can keep up with her because he’s literally doing the same shit she is.

Furthermore, both Enid and Xavier cannot take Wednesday’s darkness seriously. Enid is horrified when she first meets Wednesday and has to clarify that she didn’t actually try to kill anyone to move forward with being around her. Guarantee you she brushed off Wednesday’s response of almost killing 2 kids as sarcasm. She passes out when Wednesday is trying to talk about the case and showing her evidence, something Wednesday is genuinely interested in. Xavier is scoffs at her quip about sticking needles in her eyes, and could you IMAGINE what he’d say if she told him she’d do worse to him than Tyler did in ruining his mural? 

We KNOW Wednesday secretly likes when people don’t like her, and yes this changes as she forms legitimate connections with people outside of her family who CANNOT handle the type of person she is the way her family came. But that’s why Tyler is so fascinating to her. Unlike literally everyone else she’s dealt with so far outside of her family, he doesn’t shy away from the other things people either shrink away from or dismiss as a joke. On the contrary, he likes her more for it, sees a kindred soul, whatever. Tyler is the only one she’s interested in because on some level, deep down, she saw the same darkness in him. And yeah, it stings it was him and he’s got shit to make up for because he hurt Eugene and endangered a lot of other people, but you know what? He’d still embrace all of her fucked up little pieces without hesitation because he’s got the same type of fucked up pieces in him, and whether people want to believe it or not, he ALSO had the same capacity as Enid to make Wednesday soften up and reassess her selfishness in putting people in danger/taking them for granted.

And that’s what makes him perfect.

i feel like the tyler reveal honestly increases the chances that weyler ends up together instead of eradicates them like the general rhetoric tends to be. this is the fucking addams family and he's a murderer

I just don't understand how Tyler or Peeta being Heterosexual, white, and men make them bland? Both are very sweet and complex characters. Yes, I'm going to compare Tyler galpin to peeta mellark because I can. Xavier is a whiny pathetic fuck and reminds me of movie Gale 🤣

Why is it a crime now if you are straight? And the hatred for men? For the benefit of lgbt & women is fucking annoying as shit. Especially with what Jenna's bullshit she was spitting. Saying Wednesday can't have a love interest because it'd make her weak. No, it wouldn't. Stop hating on Tyler just because he's straight and honestly is a better & more complex character than Enid. Yes, Enid has her moments (like with her family and relationship with Ajax), which might cause her character to have more development in the future. Like her standing up to her mother and standing for her relationship with Ajax. Tyler has so much more complexity than Enid and possibly Bianca as well.

Like the people that say Tyler is a boring straight white male are the same people that only watched the trailer for Wednesday (didn't watch the show) and yelled at Tim Burton for making the bully a black character when Bianca isn't even a bully🤣 she's a rival there is a difference. Or the same people yelling at Tim Burton to make Wednesday lesbian with Enid. Just because they have a sisterly bond and are opposites.

Anyways I'd never ship wenclair because that'd be toxic asf anyways with Enid constantly trying to change Wednesday. Wednesday does not want to be changed. Plus Enid is just.. too opposite of her. Idc yes opposites can attract look at Everlark. But not someone as opposite as Enid & Wednesday. That's like comparing night time to day time. Enid is just not the type for Wednesday she's too goody goody and hates blood. While Wednesday can do good on her own terms and beliefs. She'd be the type that likes blood and gore and murder. While Enid is not. And she'd constantly complain about it. They have more of a sisterly bond or best friend vibe than a relationship. Sorta like Wednesday & Eugene. It's more of a brotherly/sisterly vibe.

Sorry, I do ship petroclair & wyler. Tyler is my favorite character. He will probably always will be.

OK. I've been in the anti Wavier and anti Xavier Thorpe tag to see what's going on and... Most of them are also anti Wyler and anti Tyler Galpin ?! Wtf ?! Also, what's the problem with people saying that we like bland white heterosexual men... This hatred of men for the benefit of female characters (plus lgbt) gets really annoying sometimes. (And i am a bisexual woman) As long as the character is well-written and interesting, who cares about their gender or sexual orientation ?! I'm seriously sick of this kind of stuff, in addition to coming across posts saying that Tyler is a bland character, summarizing him as a straight, white male (like that's a crime ?), when he is the most interesting character in the series along with Wednesday and Enid !? (And yes, I love Enid ! If Tyler Galpin didn't exist, I would most likely be a Wenclair !)
