sorry I'm still reeling from reading the Natori cousin arc (up to chp 115 bc that's far as I can find the scans).

They really hit us with:

Natori explicitly trusting Natsume with knocking him out of yokai-magic induced hallucinations of his traumatic childhood memories.

Hiiragi literally saying that could only work with someone Natori trusts UNCONDITIONALLY and kinda implying natsume is the only person that applies to in natori's life........ o k a y!!! catch me sobbing!!

After natsume knocks natori out of it natori is like: "sorry for being so weak and a loser lmfao I'll walk u out so u can get back to ur day" and natsume says "Nice Try But I'm Helping You Idiot."

a Yokai-illusion version of Natori (built from the yokai seeing into Natori's soul) literally tells natsume how he was lonely and scared and ostracized as a kid and desperately wanted specifically a younger relative who could see the same shit he sees. and when REAL natori pops up and dissolves the illusion and is like haha don't listen to that thing lol and natsume is like isn't it built from your soul tho and natori doesn't rlly argue against it that hard........................ okay.

Natori blaming himself for mitsuru not being able to exist + no younger relatives getting born in general bc it was so feared that they could get the sight like natori like GOD the self hatred is so thick here fucking hell.

and let's go back to natori desperately wanting a younger relative who also had the sight so he wasn't alone. Natsume. literally natsume. his relationship to natsume. I'm biased bc I headcanon their relationship as sibling-like but I feel there's a lot in canon to back it up and POINTS POINTS POINTS LIKE THIS RIGHT HERE...

Also not super relevant but important to me specifically Nyanko offhandedly saying "good grief you and this kid" but like. to natsume. so referring to natori as a kid which he normally only does with natsume. could be specific translation or me misinterpreting it but um. Nyanko softening up to natori.

And there's a scene within like. a single page. where nyanko transfers from natsume's shoulder to natori's head to natori's arms which shouldn't be as funny and sweet to me as it is but it is.

(tho should be noted whenever I get back into natsuyuu, I usually do reread/rewatch it in order. so I don't remember if nyanko softening up to natori happened a while ago or whatever lol)

Another hc is I think Shinji loses a lot of weight during the 2 years just cuz he isn’t getting enough to eat and he’s getting sicker and then when he’s recovering he has to take a lot of time to be able to move again so he’s definitely not doing much strenuous activity and he regains weight slowly. I think what is able to really help him both gain weight and learn to be nicer to himself is he makes food that he himself would enjoy (its a long journey cuz he’s not used to being nice to himself and he’s very crabby about it lol) and I like to imagine him having a sweet tooth and liking cookies and cake a lot and he gets chubbier over time and Akihiko is like over the moon cuz Shinji is taking care of himself and it’s showing!

Then Mitsuru um because of fucked up angsty reasons shes had to prioritize her appearance a lot, a whole metaphor for keeping up a facade so she doesn’t reflect badly on the company, and she always is very controlling of what she eats and how it’d make her look. She also puts a lot of effort into her hair and makeup to keep up a perfect image of femininity. Then like during her social link she’s with Kotone just kinda exploring common shit for the first time and she develops a love of fast food and it frightens her cuz like. What’s happening to her she isn’t allowed to have this kinda indulgence and she certainly isn’t allowed to enjoy it either. But she’s supported and encouraged to let herself eat whatever she wants and she just explores a lot of options and eats what she likes even if it’s not some perfect shit that keeps her skinny I think Kotone and Yukari would collectively be like PLEEASSEEE DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY IF ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING WE WILL MURDER THEM WE HAVE OUR WEAPONS DRAWN. So Mitsuru gets fatter and also stops wearing makeup too and it’s very scary cuz she’s always had it ingrained in her that this is the last thing she’s allowed to be but she also feels her body and looks at her natural face and she finally feels like her body is her own and she loves what she’s made

Obviously we gotta have Shinji and Mitsuru bond over their new food revelations it’s part of repairing some strain in their relationship I think Shinji can definitely be pretentious about food and would probably have negative opinions of fast food like he’ll eat it cuz sometimes you just can’t cook but hes snarky about it. But when he sees Mitsuru likes it she figures he’s got something snarky to say and he’s just like "uh actually knowing what you’ve gone through I’d be pissed if you didn’t eat fast food let’s go get some borgers". He does make some of his own shit occasionally though like burgers and fries for Mitsuru to have and it’s a nice gesture but it just doesn’t capture the ENERGY of wild duck burger 🙄. Shinji would melt anyone if they said that though alsjka. Mitsuru in return would get Shinji some fancy ingredients and any special sweets that are all expensive (even though I strongly believe the happiest ending for Mitsuru is one where she isn’t really a part of the Kirijo group family anymore let’s just say she still has a way to get yummy snack akjsks). They candy is always really strange and tastes like shit 8/10 times and Shinji will eat all of it anyway and he will not share

i’ve thought ab this with shinji constantly (i’m not sure the oversized clothes i put him in have ever properly showed it tho 😭) but i’ve never imagined it with mitsuru !! i definitely draw mitsuru a bit thicker than she actually is but ive never put much thought behind it besides it looks better to me LMFAO … now i will have a reason to continue drawing her this way and more…

in general, the whole “gaining weight to signify growth” oh i could collapse i fear … literally the most perfect & beautiful hc for any fandom…

Arashi is in class, like usual

unlike usual she’s very on edge

She keeps seeing little dolls in her peripheral vision, they’re outside, on the windowsills, watching her, and no one else seems to notice them. (Also they are Minireena from fnaf sized :D )

when class ends she doesn’t stick around for long, she says bye to Mika and then rushes off to get the fuck away from this shit for a little bit

Mika isn’t too upset about being left alone today though cuz he gets to have lunch with Shu (after accidentally telling Arashi that he and Shu were friends Shu agreed to have lunch with him to keep up the appearance of normalcy)

Shu chose somewhere secluded to have lunch tho, so like, sir what??? How does this keep up appearances for anyone?? Idk man, seems like you just want to have lunch with Mika. Too bad Mika hasn’t figured this out yet.

Anyways after a little bit Shu notices the bandages on Mika’s hands and asks about them

Mika tells him about the kitty and then Shu demands to see his hands

Mika tells him not to worry about it and Shu rattles off some excuse about how it’s “my responsibility to take care of you” and “the bandages are sloppy and it upsets me”

Shu unwraps the bandages and takes care of the wounds

Mika just watches him and turns a bit pink, don’t worry about it,

Anyways Shu redresses the wounds and the whole scene looks like an old shojo anime tbh

we cut back to Arashi who is eating lunch with Leo and Ritsu

she’s still a bit on edge cuz she’s practically living in a glittery horror movie but her friends are here to calm her down

Leo makes a couple jokes to calm her down “don’t worry, if any dolls show up I’ll deal with em, with these!!!”

anyways they move off the topic and they discuss inviting Tsukasa and Mika to their weekly karaoke

Ritsu is a little against it cuz he’s a bit iffy about including new people in their friend group tradition but Leo is all for it, so Ritsu agrees

after lunch school goes on, Arashi sees more dolls, she’s still a bit on edge but she has track after school so she decides to ignore it

we cut to after her track practice where she and her teammates that have cleaning duty for the day, also it’s raining outside so track is practicing in the gym today

she, Adonis, and Mitsuru have some funny banter, mostly just Mitsuru saying absolutely unhinged shit while the other two vibes with each other

Adonis and Mitsuru go off to put something up and Arashi is left alone for a couple minutes

After a few minutes she hears crashing sounds from where Adonis and Mitsuru went, and then the lights go out

there are golden strings all over the ground leading toward where they went

Arashi drops what she’s doing to go check on them

when she gets there she sees a couple odd things, first of all Adonis and Mitsuru are passed out face down on the ground, next up, there are a lot of small dolls, and third there’s this guy? No doll? No, what the fuck is he?? His face is covered by a veil and he moves unnaturally smoothly.

she tries to speak to him to figure out what’s going on but this guy immediately attacks, by which I mean he sicks the small dolls on her while saying nothing.

she transforms and starts fighting the dolls

shes winning but then this little asshat starts using the actual extent of his powers

Adonis and Mitsuru rise from the ground, propelled by strings to attack their friend. They are completely unaware of their actions and their eyes look hollow and devoid of life, the look like dolls.

Arashi struggles to fight them because she doesn’t want to hurt her friends.

So she’s losing, badly, the guy with the strings on his hands starts approaching her and she is straight up freaking out

he gets really close to her and actually starts trying to grab her sword

just as he’s almost pried her fingers off of it another knight rushes in and immediately cuts the strings tethering Adonis and Mitsuru to the puppet guy, he also gets the guy away from Arashi

He fights off the guy but every time arashi tries to help he brushes her off and forces her back

after the fight is over this other knight doesn’t stick around and he tries to chase the puppet guy down

Arashi is left to clean up the mess he left behind because her two friends are passed out and the gym looks like a disaster zone

episode 4! like 4 months later lol

anyways i love when girls r on the edge of a panic attack for some supernatural shit, shes just like me frfr

and yeah that's kind of all i got to say lol, i really enjoyed reading this and the other outlines! is just i dont have a lot to add when theyre already this good, writing this took me a whole day cuz i didnt knew what to say lmao

just finished watching the first p3 movie and i want to write my thoughts down.

first, about the art style of the movie. i thought that it'd be more of a deterrent but i got used to it pretty fast. the animation and art is a bit jank at some times but the composition and overall vibes are reaaaally good! the ambience in the dorm and at the dark hour are immaculate.

they made akihiko very ugly, however. it pains me to see him. it also pained me to see whitewashed kazushi and normie-fied kenji. god i hope they don't do the same to yuko...

i know that when it comes to animation, you have to make choices on how to allocate resources but idk.

second, the voice acting. i played reload w/ the english voices because the english voice actors tend to be really good for modern persona games, however i hate watching dubbed anime so i went for english subbed movie. the voices were alright for the most part, the only caveat to that being that yukari's voice acting was a bit too cutesy and high pitched. that being said, i think the voice matched her character in the movie, even tho i have complaints about her portrayal in the movie.

third, plot changes. i didn't mind how they condensed the time, because otherwise they would have had to make a 5+ hour long movie which would have sucked. i do wish we had at least seen how Makoto had met his social links, if not his interactions w/ them.

the added fuuka and moriyama scenes were really good tho! fleshed out some stuff that needed fleshing out. i also liked that makoto stayed behind during the fuuka rescue mission. it gave him some external struggle and gave pharos something to do that wasn't just standing around being ominous as fuck.

to quote my sister "i still hate that little shitstain but at least he's doing something" (i don't hate the little man, but she does)

fourth, yukari and junpei. those two are my fav members of SEES, they stayed in my party 'till the end, so i have the strongest opinions on their portrayals in the movie.

i'll be positive first, i really liked junpei in the movie. he had that classic iori charm without shying away from his flaws. he's hot and cold w/ Makoto in a way that i felt p3 reload was lacking. i really liked the "personal space" bit as well. that moment where Makoto called back to the "watching my six" thing from the beginning of the movie was so cute too.

that being said, i have complaints w/ movie yukari. listen. she's just too soft. i need her to have more edge and bitchy-ness. i didn't even sense any of the tension that was supposed to be between her and mitsuru because she was being too chill and polite about it. when akihiko asked if she didn't want to be alone w/ mitsuru because she didn't get along w/ her, the movie didn't do the work to make me believe he was right.

when Makoto offered her a hand after she fell on the monotrain, i wanted her to slap his hand away before maybe apologizing, saying that she didn't need his help. it just didn't quite feel like yukari.

in an effort to combine my two hyperfixations rn, this is the Insomnia Spidey trio's favourite persona games:

Peter loves Persona 3 FES. It's just hard enough that he has to keep notes about how to effectively min max his party. He's not looking up guides, he's building the optimal guides. The man makes Makoto sick on purpose to max his social stats. He's on playthrough 5 bc he refuses to cheat on his girlfriends just to max their social links. The mans has built the guide on how to fill the Persona Compendium. He laughs every time he sees Elizabeth try and go up the down escalator. He stans Akihiko and Mitsuru. He's a little bit of a stealth goth bitch. He has no sense of time management in real life, but you can bet he's got every event planned out in his days in P3 FES. That's not even mentioning the story of a protagonist giving everything he has in service of the people he loves, up to and including his life. No no reason he's mega into that. No reason at all.

Harry Osborn loves Persona 4 Golden like Yuu loves Nanako. This is his baby, that he's nurtured since the day it came out. Sad? Play Persona 4. Happy? Play Persona 4. Anxious? Time for another Persona 4 playthrough! Marie being a melancholic romantic poet speaks to his soul, and you BET he's played this game so many times that he's got the schedule down PAT for maxing out all of his social links the first go around. He keeps saying that every time he plays he finds something new to love about the game, but this is a damn lie, he knows this game front to back to sideways. Marie and Yosuke are his favourite social links.

MJ lives for Persona 2 Innocent Sin + Eternal Punishment. IT'S THE PERFECT YIN AND YANG YOU GUYS. One story leads into another, the story is about futility of high school and how hopeless time feels to the young, and then the oppressive survivalist nature of early adulthood! Min maxing is not her thing, but the mystery that surrounds the story, the characters at the heart of the plot, the idea that capricious gods play with humanity like toys as a part of a bet. All of it speaks to her rebellious nature and anti-authoritarian bent. She also loves that Tatsuya and Maya have the chance to be canonically bisexual. These games harken back to when JRPGs had good story and didn't need schedules to 'min max' your 'friendships.'

Miles is a fresh face. He's a simple guy with simple needs. Persona 5. He hasn't played P5Royal and he's probably not gonna any time soon. He's played it fully through casually a few times. He loves the characters, he loves the idea of getting back at corruption and hitting the adults that fuck kids over where it hurts. One day he will play Royal and he will get to the second trimester, and it's going to mess him up so bad he's going to gain a hyperfixation. And Peter will see himself in his young protoge all over again, and will ask, "Hey if you want a day-by-day schedule to max out all your confidants and do all the mementos missions I wrote one. I'll send it you." Secretly tho he likes the dancing games the best. These soundtracks hit hard.

Fine are like the pseudo-villains, esp eichi, but it's mostly just a farce. eichi acts in a lot of ways that directly hurt people (and caused an entire arc called the war) but usually does what he does with good intentions behind them. i have mixed feelings on the guy tho so. sdkjgh . also stream hajimari no fantasia. Trickstar is like the unofficial "main" group of enstars and tbh i dislike their music but they're a cute little unit. best friends. love mao btw. mao is also ritsu's childhood friend and also they're kinda gayasses together. RYUSEITAI is based off of like, superhero shows :) their whole gimmick is being superheros and their music is very upbeat and fun :) silly little guys. ALKALOID is a new unit in !! and they are silly. mayoi and tsumi are gayasses. hiiro and aira are gayasses. the entire unit is in gay love. #win. for realsies tho they are touted as "underachievers" and are the main unit in the !! main story alongside crazy:b :)

uhu newdi my beloved ! Knights founded as a direct consequence of the war! founded by leo and izumi (izumi suggested the name. btw.) and very integral to the story. i am not going into that here this is long enough as is. anyway. leo's a silly little composer who goes "uchuu~" and is obsessed with aliens. besties with madara. gayass with izumi and ritsu. izuritsuleo the world btw. izumi is a prissy little bastard who i love for some reason. prettyboy. a dick to most people but cares underneath. also hardcore yandere for makoto. even stalks him and shit. not cool izumi. ritsu is a vampire who's sleepy all the time and relies a lot on mao. bpd guy imo. my beloved also. arashi i told u abt already but i love her dearly. big sister knight <3 and kasa loves sweets and is a silly little dude !! MaM is madara's unit ! he calls himself "mama" and takes on a motherly role for a lot of people :) also claims to be anzu (the protag's) childhood friend. they were not childhood friends but anzu just goes with it i guess. besties with leo. saved his ass during the war also. Switch are my beloveds. my meow meows. natsume is a magician and a flirt and calls anzu "kitten" and i hate him but also would kiss his very punchable face. gayass with tsumugi btw. he's actually very caring underneath his rough exterior. tsumugi is the resident cringefail malewife. guy who goes "uwah!" i love him. knew natsume as a kid and made a promise that if their red string of fate ever broke that he'd grow his hair out to tie it back together with his hair. which he does btw. he grows his hair out bc of that promise. believes a lot in luck and stuff. sora is a cute little guy ! very energetic ! he has synesthesia but it manifests as him seeing people's "colors" kind of like auras, and every enstars character has a color from sora :) people's colors also reflect their mood !! Double Face died. yeah they're dead. ANYWAY. mama and kohaku kill people. that's it. did i forget to mention that kohaku was raised to be an assassin and kills people? yeah. that 15 year old has killed. anyway df died and mama is going on hiatus and kohaku is just kinda there.

Okay so. I'm flipping through these screencaps again in hopes of collating all the info and summarizing. Hang on.

Mementos is back. Why? Because don't worry about it. (The game basically shrugs on this one, lmao.)

Maruki has a persona and it is able to affect real people, not just cognitions. The power is called Actualization, and is basically him taking someone's desires and making them real by altering cognition.

It should be impossible for an individual to use their power like this on a massive scale, but the death of Yarblegarble left a power vacuum in Mementos, and Maruki slotted himself into place there. So he has godlike powers in the same way Yahtzee did.

Akechi points out that the Thieves had the masses' attention and worship, that's how they defeated Cuphead, so why did that influence shift to Maruki? Turns out Maruki has been consciously or not shifting the cognition of the Thieves through his therapizing, so subconsciously everyone wanted the easy out that Maruki was supplying. yeah sure whatever, that's not more of an ass pull than the Mementos thing

All this only became possible when the Cognitive World and the Real World merged in the finale. Now, the worlds are trying to separate, but Maruki is interferring. They need to finish separating, or the Cognitive World will supplant the Real World and there will be no escape from Maruki's control. We got about a month before things are set in stone.

Okay summing that up actually helped me grok wtf is going on, awesome.

Anyway, back into the Palace, and Sumire gets another persona awakening on top of her original one.

I'm really torn on Sumire. Like, as a plot catalyst she's fantastic. But she's been the weakest of the cast for the entire game and I still struggle to care about her outside how crunchy her situation is.

Blah blah, seems like Maruki has a bunch of data trunk lines running to Mementos, so we gotta go see wtf is up in there.

also i got to see Ann's bedroom/flat and oh my god that's so many clothes that's my nightmare. I mean its super cute but wow.

Her new persona pops and oh my god this is the most scene kid thing I have ever seen, WOW. the mismatched tights, the bubblegum, the double belt. I can hear Paramore playing when I look at this.

Also Lavenza visits Reverie and falls asleep TWICE in one visit. This girl needs a fucking nap, wow.

Anyway, plot. Mementos has a bunch of Maruki's data cables running through it. I do love the shift from fantastical science to the cold reality of surveillance in Maruki's methods.

BASICALLY its complicated, but Maruki is watching over Mementos. To give everyone the perfect life they want, he catches people in Mementos and changes their cognition from there. Without the surveillance, he wouldn't know who to help and how.

So I guess his perfect dream of just fixing the world is more complex than he thought. Sure, he has all of human cognition on tap here, but he still has to handle each case individually with the info he gleans from Mementos. There's still many people who don't have their happy psience yet and that is going to take time to fix.

I do appreciate a lack of subtlety. I hope the intention with Maruki is to inspire some discomfort and reflection in players as they contend with his motives and methods, but also, gamers can be dumb so yes, please just insert a room that looks like it'd fit in The Stanley Parable into this whole narrative to make sure people understand this whole thing is fucked.

Akechi as the repeated voice of "yo this shit sucks" is a lot of fun. When the guy who murdered a bunch of people for his evil dad is calling out your bullshit, that's worth paying attention to.

She's my watsonian/in-universe explanation to where the rest of the arcana shadows are

Her persona variant is Akhlys; heavily based off Riordan's interpretation of her, meaning she can control poison

Her appearances changes a lot more than her brother's since the collective idea of suffering/misery changes over the ages while death stays stagnant (I've been considering making her look gyaru since that seems to be associated with japanese mean girl tropes)

Ena Kutsuki (Persona Series)

Initially, her name was Era, but I changed it somewhere down the line (did you know that the name 'Ena' has japanese origins too?)

Demigod of order; got a certain cup's magic handed to her after Striker's AI takeover attempt

Her bones are fucked up because of said magic (her spine can literally burst out of her back and turn into extra arms doc ock style)

She is being rizzed up by the goddess of misery and neither are aware they're in the slowburn plot and mutually believe they are friends (both of their friend groups can see how lovesick they are)

Cai An-Yue (ProjMoon; Lobcorp)

She's named after me! (My chinese name is Cai An Yu)

She has stolen her world's Library and made it her own

I'm considering classifying her as some flavor of Erlking because she's been fucking around the timelines and superimposing herself on various people and/or corpses
