I really don’t know how to explain that climate town has filled the hole in my heart that was made when Disney got rid of Ellen’s energy adventure
#LISTEN#is Disney terrible? yes#is Ellen also terrible? yes#was Ellen’s energy adventure sponsored by Exxon? also yes#BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS EDUTAINMENT#and instead of replacing an edutainment ride with another edutainment ride#they replaced it with stupid fucking guardians of g the galaxy#and I have been so devastated at the decline of edutainment at Disney parks and in media#the reason I loved that ride so much was that it actually sparked conversations about energy and natural resources in kids#it’s why living with the land will always and forever be my favorite Disney ride!!!!#second is expedition Everest bc I love Joe rhode#BUT as much as I love not just bikes and strong towns#climate town brings much more of a entertaining aspect to his videos as well as his educational aspect#not just that but he even reworks his videos to be swear free for teachers to use for kids#it makes me so happy

Why the fuck didn't ExxonMobil just start a bunch of renewables businesses? Like Wh How do you fumble the bag that badly
Imagine It's the 1970's or whatever time it was You make this big discovery Oh! Oh shit! Okay well that's bad news Well
I guess we will need a new energy system And we found out Before everyone else about this. So we get to make The energy system Before anyone else gets to make it And, Due to this information, We know, That fossil fuels of all sorts have to phase out 100% Which is all of our competitors basically So come on let's put our thinking caps on We all know that the industrial revolution Was a big thing Back In the day And here we have information that means we can make another energy revolution A million times bigger And we can lead it And make money off it If we just, you know, Made a smart business decision If we shifted course real fast right now Put in all the money we've made into it Get all the technology ready We have like 40 years to do it, but definitely Before more companies can find out Then, once we're ready Start pushing for new laws. With money Educate the public on it. So they vote on it And then because an extinction event is something nobody wants For obvious reasons Even if its hard at first, we should be able To get all our competitors Out of commission Even if they try to copy us, We've had time to prepare, We can lead the change Internationally - In every country - And become a single monopoly Controlling all Energy resources on The planet And be basically the biggest company Making money from another energy Revolution Which would give us WAY more money Than EVERYBODY.
Why didn't they just do that shit?
#It's just weird they decided to make less money#In a worse way#This isn't my ideal scenario BTW#Just trying to get into the mindset which is a mind fuck of its own#Climate change#exxon mobil corp#renewable energy#climate crisis

climate rant under the cut lol
I find myself listening to music from pre 2000’s and I can’t help but think about how their world was so different from ours. Not politically, but environmentally. They had winter, they had snow and the seasons were stable-ish. They reference these things in their music sometimes, but even when they aren’t talking about it I can’t help but think about it. The changing air suffuses every single day, and I grew up believing my home would be safe, and now the lakes don’t freeze. My childhood memories are just that, memories, forever.
Literally what the fuck. Wish i could do something about any of it…
#rant#climate anxiety#grew up with a teacher who believed her class could save the world from exxon mobile#def fucked with my head a little#sighhhh#first summer of wearing masks to avoid daily asthma attacks from wildfire smoke#first winter my good winter jacket from years ago has been too warm#just. everything is changing and its difficult yknow#negative post

Parasyte is so good until it starts trying to make the audience ask “but who are the real monsters? Humanity is bad too!”
I’m pretty sure the real monsters are the ones trying to kill and eat people. 💀

Ok I'm not done about the Essequibo thing. If y'all truly care about Venezuela then fucking. Be aware the US has a chokehold on them pretty much on everything. Their oil imports were mostly FOR the US.
This whole thing just reeks imperialism to me.
#the usa is once again meddling with us in latam and man i am so tired of this shit.#no i am not defending the guyana president. what i am defending is the fact that most people native to essequibo#do NOT want to join venezuela.#i fucking hate exxon mobil

I've also recently encountered an unfulfillable desire to "vote with your money": medical supplies. i have to buy my prescription medications even if I hate Bayer or EL or purdue because it's legal and Desirable under capitalism to restrict the ability to produce vital drugs and medical equipment.
Not to say that what you buy doesn't mean anything. boycotts Do work (although they only function to force change when there is a unified front with express demands). but "just stop participating in the system" usually isn't doable.
we should do everything we can AND we as consumers are not solely responsible for the practices of those selling to us.
I feel like we don't talk enough about how the whole "capitalism is a democracy! vote with your dollar!" myth falls apart once you're dealing with a company that doesn't sell directly to individual consumers
Like say you want to boycott Norfolk Southern after the East Palestine disaster. Presumably you're not in the situation where you personally do business directly with Norfolk Southern, so that's not an option. Products don't have stickers telling you what freight company shipped them, two of the same product sitting right next to each other on the same shelf may well have been handled by two different companies and there's no way for you to tell. And in some cases companies like that may have monopolies on transporting certain goods in certain areas, so you couldn't make a different choice even if you knew. How could you possibly say that such a situation is "democratic" and decided on by consumers?
Capitalism enjoyers love to pretend that the whole economy is Tommy trading his apples for Mary's flowers in a mutually beneficial exchange and ignore 99% of the nuance in the economic system they claim to believe in
#i dont need to conserve energy because billionairs are the ones using the most#commentary#i was literally thinking yesterday about how MUCH transport was involved in making my little cup of diced pears#how i can never know and it always varies#capitalism is violence#like if i could stop supporting exxon i would in a HEARTBEAT#if it were up to me id never use limited energy again#but i'm a renter with zero say in where my energy comes from#the same way I don't get to decide to boycott my medication providers#i certainly choose who fulfills my prescriptions (fuck walgreens fuck cvs fuck walmart) but even that is a luxury#my circumstances allow for that#poor people shopping at walmart for example are not the problem#I will get a little bit pissed off though when people act like they don't have to make conscious choices#like every time i hear#you Matter and that Does come w some responsibility yk#ur actions have consequences even if they are small#long

If anyone is still undecided on voting or like, not going to do it at all, remember that it's not just one person you're voting for or against, it's all the people they surround themselves with that you don't get a direct vote for. So if voting AGAINST Trump isn't enough, consider it also a vote against the Steve Bannons and the Betsy Devoses, and the Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. (To jog your memory, Tillerson was an Exxon CEO who is only second to fucking Henry Kissinger to "Americans who have interacted the most with Putin").
I would enumerate the people in Biden's cabinet in the same way but they have all been generally benign people that don't become household names from how awful they are. Did you know that less than half of Biden's cabinet are straight white men? If nothing else I can vote for a presidential cabinet made up of a diverse group of people.
And don't forget that a president's cabinet also becomes the line of succession and, given how old the candidates are, is likely to become VERY relevant.
#us politics#please vote#I am the aunt to a disabled immigrant#at the very least I'm voting for the secretary of education that ISN'T likely to gut protections for disabled students
