everytime i see someone say stuff like "why should we help underdeveloped countries? they got like that themselves" the rage I feel literally like almost kills me.
how stupid are u...
to just ignore colonialism and like the blatant thievery, genocide, and like other horrible shit other countries have done to them to have them be that way.
like think about all the beautiful Indian jewelry and resources stolen by Britian, the stealing of resources from the African continent, the Berlin conference, fucking slavery (and not just African slavery brought to the Americas), the "white man's burden", AND SO MUCH MORE SHIT that has negatively affected the lives of people living in these 'third world countries' like hmm maybe they're having a hard time providing for their people because the thriving countries stole a lot of their shit!!!
like how gross can you be??!!
also feel like this needs to be said, but a lot of what ppl consider "underdeveloped" works for the people that live there. and when I say this, I mean villages where ppl have everything they need to live and thrive that preserves their tradition, but isn't what we are used to. and Africa is a big continent many of those countries are thriving economically.
but anyways my post is talking about those countries that are actually struggling to provide their citizens their basic needs and rights.

I cannot believe I sit through hours of lecture on the French Revolution of 1789, hours of lecture on French history from said revolution to the World Wars, then to today, hours of lecture on historiography and propaganda, spend hours writing essays on these subjects and reading about the Revolution of 1789, on its historiography and how the US are liars because they are an imperialist nation that just wants you to hate France for being against the war of Iraq, only for some usamerican tumblr user to tell me that I don't know shit about the subject and I'm just against anyone talking about French history because I'm French.
Shut the fuck up, you don't even know that "La Liberté guidant le peuple" is not this revolution, but the one from 1830. You don't even know what la Commune de Paris is. And those are things 15 years old know in France. I say "Never listen to a native english speaker about the French Revolution of 1789 or really, French history in general", I know wtf I'm talking about. I know wtf they are teaching you, and I know it is a distorted reality. For fuck's sake, they compared Robespierre to Ben Laden, this is the craziest shit I have read in a history book, and my professors, HISTORIANS WITH DOCTORATE, laugh their ass off at that. And, it's the same broken ass logic used by fascists in France rn, so thanks for bringing that in, but that's what the us wanted after all.
And, yeah, I know more than OP about history, because I know a bbc article isn’t an acceptable source. The media are like the biggest propaganda machine.

Since I'm on my soapbox this month (and rightfully so), I'll also say that I liked the message that I got from Kendrick's performance, as well as the little Uncle Sam dialogue. It really means a lot that this was all performed in front of the President, too.
Here's what I interpreted from the imagery: Like it or not, black americans are a part of this country, a fundamental part of it. It's been that way since its establishment, and it will continue to be. We are, despite what everyone else thinks, also what it means to be American.
We were brought to this country only 13 years after the Anglos arrived, and centuries later we're still treated as anomalies. It is paradoxically both surprising and unsurprising that whites still grapple with the fact that blacks and black culture has become Americana, that our culture has always BEEN Americana...but ours was simply a form of it that was overlooked because it didn't align with white interests and superiority.
Racial progress has stagnated so much because of this, whites refuse to accept/comprehend the basic multicultural makeup of this country.

it’s honestly kind of impressive how integral the jesuits managed to become to the cultural and scientific infrastructure of the entire planet in the early modern period even though literally no one liked them

the dutch and their descendants (esp afrikaners) are the most underrated colonizer ethnicity, like the ratio of the devastation wrought by dutch and afrikaner imperialism compared to the general reputation (particularly within the scope of western awareness lol) that the dutch have for their colonialism is 100:1

just a sidenote about nuclear testing in australia that i felt was too off topic for that post but it feels important in context since i'm really fucking annoyed about it actually lmfao
like. i'm uncomfortable talking on the colonial aspect of nuclear testing in australia as i'm not Aboriginal so i'm not gonna talk about that, this isn't some well researched post that i want spread around, etc etc. but speaking personally i can say a few things on the topic so. guess i will!
the nukes dropped in australia weren't somehow like. isolated from society. the racist terra nullius myth thought process needed to justify that idea aside, most of my extended family has cancer from nuclear waste being dumped in their towns, that's if they aren't dead from it yet (most of them are.) irradiated wood and iron was used for housing which is still actively being lived in, abandoned trains would sit full of scrap metal contaminated with plutonium waste in the middle of the towns (which would be scavenged by scrappers, melted down, and reused. fuck knows where it went). the rest of the wood would be burned into the atmosphere on cooking fires. like, my grandad has no more living immediate family, they're all dead from the (literal) fallout of nuclear testing. this isn't a fuck off country town, this is a town about an hour away from a capital city. the only reason i even know about this is because i have/had family there and it's um! alarming!
and it's like even if we aren't talking about testing specifically, australia has a shitload of uranium and a shitload of uranium mines. i lived pretty damn close to a dried up uranium mine for awhile and i personally know of several secret uranium mines within a few hours of me through what i'll call word of mouth, all of which are obviously on unceded Aboriginal land. there's entire ghost towns that have been locked up behind fences and removed from maps because they were depending on uranium mining for money and, when the uranium dried out and the people all got sick, people moved away. guess where all that excess waste went? i'll give you a hint, it wasn't disposed of. the towns are locked off because they're fucking radioactive.
like, this is a fucking horrendous part of australia's history that isn't spoken about or even known about by most people for some reason. even in australia! the most aussies really do is joke about shit like "yeah those south aussies are a little fucked up and ~weird~ from all those nukes dropped on them haha. why do people shit on the east coast btw" like... haha yeah that's so fucking funny mate, now can we talk about the absolute fucking devastation inherent in the jokes you're making orrrr.
like there are many people who could speak way more eloquently on this in way more detail like this isn't some fucking psa but uh yeah i'm Pretty Fucking Annoyed! at white europeans/brits on that post acting like the usa is somehow uniquely terrible about this topic. like you realise you guys fucking nuked my country right? you know you guys killed a decent chunk of my family with your own nuclear testing, right? i'd hope so! i really would, since you're calling americans as a whole ignorant! bit fuckin ironic ay mate! like, you're not in the gallows here! you aren't even in the sidelines! your government is directly involved in this! and despite your own ignorance on show, i'd hope that people would give you the kindness you refuse other people in understanding that individual citizens in a country aren't somehow responsible for fucking NUKES being dropped by their government. continue to shift the blame, i guess. fuuuck meee.

Just realised that I wrote about it in my other socials, but not in here, so I think it's high time to say:
This Eastern European stands with Palestine.
(and no, accusations of anti-Semitism for not supporting the Israeli state will not be listened to.)

hey seriously all of my thoughts and all of my heart to any palestinian follower I might have, any israeli who lost someone and/or tried to oppose this murderous regime and whose voice is being silenced right now, any arabic and/or muslim follower who feels like their lives aren't worth even half a shard of empathy from the western world at large, and any jewish follower who may feel like their faith is being instrumentalized in the worst possible way
I'm genuinely so sick, so disgusted, so appalled, and I don't know what to do but donate and that feels like nothing, and I'm not even close emotionally to any of that so I can't even fucking imagine what you must be going through.
I'm so, so, so sorry. This is so wrong. This is so unfair. There are no words. Genuinely. This is humanity at its very worst.

You know that people are allowed to emigrate to other countries without it being colonialism right?
You know that middle and upperclass people from rich countries live in poorer countries because of the strong dollar value right? You know people from poorer countries are forced to work in richer countries, states still thriving on colonial legacies if not expanding as current empires, because of the way world systems work right? You know both of these examples show how neocolonialism by a core nation toward peripheral nations work right? You know human emigration is natural throughour history and a neutral phenomenon while this fuckshit system makes it easier for some passports to get into poorer countries and drive up living costs while the people around them are stuck to pay higher taxes, starve, get evicted, forced into servitude, die?
Who (think for a moment maybe rub those braincells together a bit) do you think, is allowed?
Read the very basic core periphery model by Immanuel Wallerstein please before you ask questions with 0 critical thinking on anon.

Fun thing about writing [fem] 19th Century England is you can genuinely go one step forward three steps back like oh I just wrote positive interactions between them and America which was in fact the very opposite of toxic yay progressive steps forward only to then the following chapter go and be like ah yes but what if they were the absolute worst to Oz. Like irredeemably insecure and greedy and selfish. That's the ticket.
