Quote
"Justice Elena Kagan memorably castigated him for treating 'judging as scorekeeping,' whining about 'how unfair it is' when he loses, and repeating the same bad arguments 'at a higher volume.' Justice Sonia Sotomayor has repeatedly accused him of outright dishonesty by misrepresenting precedent and dangling false promises. In a fed-up dissent in just her first term, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson compared a Kavanaugh majority opinion to the children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. [Samul] Alito’s rebuttal to Kavanaugh’s dissent in Sackett v. EPAconsisted of exactly one sentence: Kavanaugh’s argument, Alito wrote, 'cannot be taken seriously.'"
Justices are 'losing patience': Brett Kavanaugh skewered as a 'lightweight' in brutal analysis
Hold up.
This guy?
“The consequences will extend long past my nomination. The consequences will be with us for decades. This grotesque character assassination will dissuade confident and good people of all political persuasions from serving our country, and as we all know, in the political system of the early 2000s, what goes around comes around.”
This piece of shit?
The guy who spent his entire life as a right wing activist judge, who was part of the Brooks Brothers “riot”, snarled and barked and insulted the Senate Judiciary Committee during his farcical confirmation hearing, who lied repeatedly about his history of sexual assault, his gambling debts, and threatened to explicitly hurt people who he views as antagonistic to him ... turns out to be an intellectual lightweight in the mold of Thomas? He doesn’t give a flying fuck about law or justice or precedent, he just wants to hurt people he doesn’t like under the color of law?
Wow. None of us saw that coming.

My favorite take is the idea that we create a federal law that requires every man to get a vasectomy until they’re ‘determined ready to have kids’ as they’re reversible. And when women propose this idea men lose their minds. Like, “you can’t tell us what to do with our own bodies, ow when we can and can’t have kids,” etc, and every woman is like “well, you finally fucking get it, then.”
Making Brett Kavanaugh cry is very presidential.

Most of the US Supreme Court is corrupt.
Samuel Alito
Amy Coney Barrett
Neil Gorsuch
Brett Kavanaugh
John Roberts
Clarence Thomas
President Biden is working to change that. He proposed an amendment to the Constitution there is no immunity for presidents for crimes committed while in office. The No One is Above the Law Amendment.
18-year term limits. Bill that has been introduced by Democrats.
Binding Code of Ethics. Bill that has been introduced by Democrats.
Of course, Republicans are opposed to these bills.

THANK FUCKING GOD
"The Supreme Court on Thursday [June 13, 2024] unanimously preserved access to a medication that was used in nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the U.S. last year, in the court’s first abortion decision since conservative justices overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago.
The nine justices ruled that abortion opponents lacked the legal right to sue over the federal Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the medication, mifepristone, and the FDA’s subsequent actions to ease access to it. The case had threatened to restrict access to mifepristone across the country, including in states where abortion remains legal.
Abortion is banned at all stages of pregnancy in 14 states, and after about six weeks of pregnancy in three others, often before women realize they’re pregnant.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was part of the majority to overturn Roe, wrote for the court on Thursday that “federal courts are the wrong forum for addressing the plaintiffs’ concerns about FDA’s actions.”
The opinion underscored the stakes of the 2024 election and the possibility that an FDA commissioner appointed by Republican Donald Trump, if he wins the White House, could consider tightening access to mifepristone, including prohibiting sending it through the mail...
Kavanaugh’s opinion managed to unite a court deeply divided over abortion and many other divisive social issues by employing a minimalist approach that focused solely on the technical legal issue of standing and reached no judgment about the FDA’s actions...
While praising the decision, President Joe Biden signaled Democrats will continue to campaign heavily on abortion ahead of the November elections. “It does not change the fact that the right for a woman to get the treatment she needs is imperiled if not impossible in many states,” Biden said in a statement...
About two-thirds of U.S. adults oppose banning the use of mifepristone, or medication abortion, nationwide, according to a KFF poll conducted in February. About one-third would support a nationwide ban...
More than 6 million people [in the U.S.] have used mifepristone since 2000. Mifepristone blocks the hormone progesterone and primes the uterus to respond to the contraction-causing effect of a second drug, misoprostol. The two-drug regimen has been used to end a pregnancy through 10 weeks gestation...
Biden’s administration and drug manufacturers had warned that siding with abortion opponents in this case could [have] undermined the FDA’s drug approval process beyond the abortion context by inviting judges to second-guess the agency’s scientific judgments. The Democratic administration and New York-based Danco Laboratories, which makes mifepristone, argued that the drug is among the safest the FDA has ever approved."
-via AP, June 13, 2024
--
Note: A massive relief and a genuine victory - this will preserve access to the medication used in 2/3rds of abortions last year, for at least another 2 years. (Probably minimum time it will take Republicans to get their next attempt before the Supreme Court.)
Still, with this, a sword that has been hanging over our heads for the last two years is gone. There will be a new one soon, but we just bought ourselves probably at least 2 years. The fight isn't over, but this is absolutely worth celebrating.
#edited like two hours after posting to add clarification that this decision isn't permanent#thanks to @queerrights for pointing out that wasn't clear#but it DOES buy us a couple years#and importantly it gives us two to three more years to fix this situation#because if democrats win the presidency and both houses of congress#(without fucking joe manchin there to singlehandedly stop them he's a fucking bastard)#then democrats WILL make abortion legal nationwide once again#abortion#abortion rights#bodily autonomy#reproductive rights#abortion is healthcare#united states#us politics#supreme court#us news#us supreme court#republicans#democrats#healthcare#public health#medicine#abortion pill#abortion access#abortion bans#current events#usa#pro choice#scotus#mifepristone

This fucking asshole.
Who voted against conviction in Trump's first impeachment.
Who confirmed Brett Kavanaugh and gaslighted the nation about it.
Who expects us all to believe that she is shocked -- shocked -- to just learn now, in the far off future year of 2023, that she's been enabling, protecting, and promoting Fascism.
Get fucked, you piece of shit. You did this. You own this.

Only 200 years too late but SCOTUS has finally formally drafted and adopted a code of ethics. We will see if this leads to any punishment for any sketchy actions committed by any judges.

I KNOW he’s gonna find a way to worm his way out of it like the Worlds Biggest Bitch Baby that he is but… the thought of watching our future president absolutely eviscerate that orange sack of pond scum in a debate on national television make me feel indescribable joy. The mere thought of it makes me feel A L I V E.
I hope that if he refuses to debate her, she still stands up there by herself, looks directly into the camera and lists all the ways he’s a Scaredy Little Punk Ass Bitch.
Listen, Democrats might still have some understandable nerves (though listen to me, LISTEN TO ME: this is NOT THE TIME FOR MORE PANIC, THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO TALK ABOUT HOW SCARY THIS IS, WE KNOW! WE KNOW! THIS IS THE TIME TO GET TF IN FORMATION AND DO YOUR GODDAMN JOB!) but let me say this, the Republicans are LOSING it. They put ALL their chips on facing Sleepy Old Joe who don't talk so good anymore, and suddenly they have a 59-year-old lawyer and prosecutor who literally spent her whole elected career going after sex pests, frauds, and felons. (We remember how she made Brett Kavanaugh fucking cry at his confirmation hearing, right?) And suddenly, they have to bring it against Kamala. GODSPEED, DIPSHITS.
So yes, Trump is already whining SO hard about all the money they "wasted" going after Biden, laying the groundwork to escape getting his ass handed to him at the next debate, got stuck with a terriblawful VP pick (even Fucking FOX NEWS cut away from Vance's rally the other day because it was so boring) and suddenly realizing that he spent so much effort to make this election about age and mental competency when... now it's him. WHAT NOW, FUCKFACES. WHAT. NOW.
I'd also like to point out that abortion rights are going to be a HUGE issue, they have won everywhere they have been on the ballot (including in very red states) post-Dobbs, they will be on the ballot in several more important states (including Fucking Florida, not that I actually think we'll win there), and Kamala has a great record as a defender of reproductive freedom. Biden did his best, bless him, but sometimes the Old Catholic Man still leaped out. So the absolute fucking schadenfreude of having a black female president BEAT TRUMP IN A POST-DOBBS ELECTION??? MAGNIFICENT.
(As @silverbirching says: we wonder how many minutes it will take SCOTUS to row back the "president god-king" ruling if Kamala wins. We're guessing 15. That is, if Joe does not finally just embrace the fact that presidents are immune AND he is leaving office, and send Alito, Thomas, and Kav on a "special indefinite vacation" as an inauguration present.)
I am not overconfident. I know this is unprecedented. I know we don't have much time, and how hard this will be. This is not 2016 or 2020, and we all have to do the work and not let up. But if the Handmaid's Tale party is literally now trying to make "Kamala doesn't have children because she's an Evul Feminist" into their main line of attack, all I say is, Please proceed, chucklefucks. I'm sure that will go great.

THEY FUCKING OVERTURNED THE CHEVRON DOCTRINE WHAT THE FUCK
WE KIND OF NEED THAT
It's only, like, the ruling that gives the EPA (and all other federal agencies) the power to define environmental law when actual laws aren't specific enough. Tell me, do you want lead in your water?
If not, you'd better move out of the US!!!
This is appalling. We want experts handling our water and air quality, not politicians who have no idea what they're talking about!!
Call your senators. Call your house representatives. Hell, send hate mail to the asshats who overturned Chevron (John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Amy Coney Barrett, Samuel Alito, Niel Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh). This is appalling.

A bunch of UT Austin pro-Palestine protestors got arrested on sketchy charges like "trespassing." The cops said they were there to arrest people because the governor directed them to watch for "unlawful assembly," and the governor fucking confessed that it was because he thinks their viewpoint was antisemitic.
This should be a slam-dunk case for First Amendment retaliation. It isn't. Thanks to the Supreme Court, you can usually only sue for retaliation if you were definitely 100% innocent. These protestors might or might not have been technically trespassing, and if they were then they're gonna have to jump through some legal hoops with a hostile judge.
This is not an old precedent. 2019. Features special guest star Brett Kavanaugh.
The moral of the story is to vote for Joe Biden. Even if you think he's somehow exactly as pro-genocide as Trump, you probably want judges who protect your right not to get arrested for protesting it.
#as usual there's a solid criminals-don't-have-rights bloc#depending on where you look it might call this a 6-3 decision or 8-1#the evil part was 6-3 and I promise there are reasons to expect Biden's nominees to be more with the 3 than the 6#actually judicial nominations are one point where Biden is *uniquely* good and a generic Democrat might just give us Kagans instead of KBJs

Kavanaugh is a pervert and a crook. Following in the steps of Clarence Thomas. He is a traitor.
Flashback to September 2018
Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in September 2018:
“Under the Constitution, the president is not above the law. No one is above the law…The president remains subject to the law.”

Re: porn stuff and Trump - apparently the main way they want to do this is via the Comstock Act, a 19th century act that banned sending obscenity through the mail. This is primarily going to be used to ban pill abortions, and possibly some forms of birth control. It's a backdoor way to do that. It might be used to ban sending porn through the mail, though that'll run into some First Amendment stuff. It sucks, and this law should have been explicitly repealed and not just not enforced years ago. I don't want to sugarcoat the impact this is going to have on reproductive rights. Mifepristone is a big way that women have still been able to get abortions in abortion-ban states, and this is obviously an attack on that. But I think that that being the main way that they plan to go after porn means that online smut, especially of the written variety, is going to be safe, if they even enforce it against porn in the first place.
There's also this discourse that young bro-y men won Trump the election (it's only sort of true - Harris did win Gen Z men actually, but not by the usual margins, and I think that the radicalization of young men online probably did contribute to some of that). So I think they're going to be hesitant to piss them off by getting rid of Internet porn, along with, as you said, the fact that the Constitution is going to make that very hard. The Project 2025 people absolutely do want to do this, but this is going to be a lot harder for many reasons than what they want to do to abortion.
(Obviously, Trump doesn't care about some of his other supporters who will be hurt by his policies: Latinos come to mind. But young white bro-y men are future Republican politicians, future foot soldiers in their crusade. I don't think they're going to want to piss them off en masse.)
The saving grace for smut fans is how relying on an antiquated law makes it hard to go after stuff spread through new technologies like the Internet.
Also, case law in the U.S. has traditionally treated written smut very differently from visual porn. It's hard enough to restrict the latter, but it's near-impossible with the former in the 21st century.
Of course, who the fuck knows with this Supreme Court, though I'm guessing a least one of those Republican appointments (frat boy Brett Kavanaugh comes to mind) doesn't want porn gone either lol
if there's any saving grace to the far right nominating a reality-TV star who is known for his numerous affairs, it's that he probably won't be willing to go along with the anti-sex parts of their platform that involve hurting his fellow straight white cis men, and it would be really hard to restrict written smut of the kind that appears on AO3 without restricting a ton of stuff those guy are into, too. Anything that would ban AO3 would also ban like, the "Nude Africa" board that Mark Robinson the Black Nazi posted on. Or most of what appears on 4chan and 8chan. Do you think they want to do that?

Samantha absolutely got the WORST BeForever dress. I mean okay Felicity’s dress probably wins for the ugliest, but at least there it at least looked like they were TRYING to be accurate.
Looking at Samantha’s newer outfits and BeForever line.... goddamn is it PINK. Granted, pink was a popular color in the 1900s, but not THAT popular. And somehow this very modern looking party dress is supposed to be an every day Edwardian girl’s dress? Just.... no. Fucking no.
Look, I get the urge to go pink. And the good news is that in this era, you can go pink! but this..... ugh it just completely disregards the pigeon breast and dropped waist silhouette and goes for lacy and ruffly. I know Samantha can be a little reckless with her nice clothes, but going bicycling and climbing trees in THAT? No. No. No.
Why does she have a headband? I think they’re going for the art nouveau thing but NO. A proper young Edwardian lady going out about her day must have a hat! Ugh this is such an atrocious mess. You can go pink, but do it like this:
(Abiti Antichi)
You can even do a pink party dress, but do it like this:
Ugh the worst part is they abridged her books into just two (which all the girls got, literally fucking diminishing the brand) and they took Eddie Ryland out completely! That is fucking criminal! I know I said previously that both Annabelle and Harriet were THE WORST, but Eddie Ryland somehow managed to be even worse than both of them. I mean, look at this little ginger fucking gremlin:
He was born to antagonize girls and would be an incel today. And the worst fucking thing about him is you just fucking KNOW he grew up to be a senator who said that the New Deal was socialism and that Hitler was nothing to worry about. OF COURSE HE FUCKING DID. Brett Kavanaugh lookin ass. How are girls supposed to learn what misogyny is if they don’t have Eddie Ryland there to embody it?!
Ugh Samantha Mattel did you so dirty I am sorry.
