sanguis translates to ‘blood’, from porous heights, teeth barred in the manner of an animal. there are two happenings, orpheus and eurydice, marked by their grief and selfishness, then cupid and psyche, enraptured by overwhelming emotions. headlined in toe with a figure shadowed over by his cruel smile, a stark terror-stricken darkness in his eyes which cannot exemplify anything besides pure contempt. he made her this way. he made her a monster. she shall make him pay.

sanguis ( 생귀스 ) is a south korean girl group formed by the frankly tiny mystine records. appearing from the depths of nowhere and headlined by a dark story holding back no punches, the group earned initial attention from their unique concept, a concept which had been developed from the remnants of a canceled book series. though originally meant to debut as a quintet, the group eventually made their debut on october thirty twenty-twenty as a four-piece, consisting of members aelia, novalie, areti, and flora.

despite the much late departure of ▇▇, one of their key members who played a crucial role in the groups storyline ( the others clearly have leftover contempt for her ), their creative team pursued. the group explores themes of grief, codependency, immortality and existential subjects throughout their concept, not always through the music, but you could glimpse it in the several written lyrics which may delve too deep.

aside from that, there is forever criticism, the members in pair with their creative team have been ripped to shreds by certain outlets for the bleakness of their stories, the portrayal of relationships ( which are not always heteronormative ), and of course.. the gore. there is typically no response for these kinds of comments, that’s unless you count their batshit fans, if you erase that though, they have been praised for their storytelling abilities and versatility.

CEO Yongjin’s Sidequest Series — Monthly CEO*

As PARACO’s public image started to waver due to the number of successive scandals being unveiled during 2019, the company knew that they had to do something to fix the damages before PARACO’s stocks plummeted even further and took them out of the 'Big Company' roster. Behind the scenes, the company was also facing some problems- no one really agreed with Yongjin taking his father's role as CEO- and it was Yonjin's big (and possibly only) chance to prove that he wasn't too young or inexperienced to take on PARACO.

For several months, the company's higher-ups struggled to develop a foolproof plan to win back the public- until an intern in the marketing division was like ‘YouTube?’ and everyone clapped. You see, Yongjin is attractive, and naturally charismatic to boot, so by using the marketing techniques already applied to their idols, PARACO would be able to reel in a large group of parasocial company stans in no time.

For six months, Yongjin would host his own YouTube series on the official PARAGON COMPANY Channel, with the episodes ranging from his daily life to whole new experiences. It was initially meant to last a full year (for a total of twelve episodes) but was cut short by COVID-19, resulting in just six episodes airing before its cancellation.

Despite the series officially ending in 2020, Yongjin is still very interactive with the public, and more specifically, fans of PARACO groups. Notable moments include; Yongjin constantly appearing in behind-the-scenes content of PARACO artists; Yongjin being swarmed by fans at the Kansai Airport when he touched down for PARAFEST 2023; and Yongjin taking finger heart selfies with American POPPIES after being recognised at OLYMPUS’ LA concert.

Yongjin’s high interactivity with fans has made him one of the most ‘likeable’ CEOs (not that there’s much competition) in the K-Entertainment sphere. However, some people are reluctant to absolve him of all his sketchy behaviour just because of his good looks and charisma. Some fans often point out the nearly inhumane work schedules of some of their artists, alongside his weirdly outdated and authoritative rules that manage to leak once in a while.

Nevertheless, ‘Monthly CEO’ remains a huge success. To this day people are still rewatching the videos and ignoring the slight sour taste it leaves in their mouths when remembering that it was all just a cover-up scheme. The most popular episode (Week 3: The Sweetness is Over 9000?! ft KISSME) has 12.4 million views and counting- not including the views on several clip channels that repurposed the content in their own videos.

A/N: when i first started planning this i was like, ‘there’s no way this would happen irl lol’, but then i took a look at the current kpop twt climate and quickly changed my mind.

hunched over from running through every corridor of the hotel, yunho finally regains the gallons of breath that he lost along the way. he stays like that for at least five minutes before straightening himself up. after flattening the creases in his suit and brushing his ruffled tresses away from his eyes, he almost looks presentable.

the issue is that his flushed cheeks won't cool down. correction: the heat can't subside—not when you're standing there, back resting against the ebony guardrail. he wants to know that you didn't see his little.. spectacle, but judging from the amused smirk painted on your lips, that's too good to be true.

“o-oh, boss..” he clears his throat and smiles, albeit a little awkwardly. “it's a beautiful night, isn't it? really takes your breath away-”

“hiding from kang yejin of room 1117, manager jeong?”

he opens his mouth and tries to come up with a lie, but eventually gives up with an embarrassed nod. one would think that after working in this establishment for almost a year now, he'd be used to seeing ghosts with.. unique looks, and he actually is indifferent to it now. it's just that this guest in particular has done two things:

caught a case of severe infatuation for him

follows him everywhere then acts coy when he catches her

yuehua has already advised him to reject the girl, but there's something about possibly angering a phantom that scares him. or maybe he's watched one too many horror movies where such a scenario occurs. either way, outrunning her seems like his only option at this point.

unaware of the inner monologue going on in his head, you call his name. when he doesn't reply, you repeat yourself. sighing, you walk up to the distracted male and cup his face in your hands, effectively bringing him back to his senses.

now the coolers in yunho's cheeks have malfunctioned. he stammers to ask, “boss, what, uh.. what are you doing?”

“getting your head out of the clouds.” you reply before putting your hands back down to your sides.

you walk back to your place, standing at the forefront of the balcony, while yunho tries to shuffle back. there might be a lovesick ghost waiting for him once he goes back to the main floor of the establishment, but that's much easier to face than your wrath if he sticks around much longer and ruins your alone time—

“stop.” he immediately follows your demand, confused yet aware that it's wise to not question it. “you can stay, no need to leave so soon.”

“but.. boss, are you sure?”

“i wouldn't tell you if i wasn't.”

he purses his lips, unsure of how to answer. instead, he chooses to walk over and occupy the space on your left. he braces his forearms upon the metal bar and looks ahead of him.

now that he's got the opportunity to look at the scenery, he knows that what he said earlier is true. it really is a beautiful night, but he can think of something someone else that easily overshadows it. if he had an ounce of courage, he'd tell you that.. but he doesn't know where to find it, so he awkwardly hangs onto the silence.

fortunately, you break the tie for him by asking, “do you like working here?” and quickly add, “be honest, i won't bite.”

“apart from a few things, i am enjoying my role as the manager. thanks to this job, i found friends, learned a few lessons, and my boss does pay pretty well.”

you nod, then laugh at the last incentive. after the establishment was handed over to you, it took a while before you could give your human employees their deserved salaries. it would have been done sooner, had your predecessor not slacked on paying taxes and other bills. but as your dear friend once said: sooner or later is better than never.

“that's good, i'm glad to hear that..” you trail off towards the end, a thoughtful look shadowing your face.

yunho looks at you with a slight tilt of his head. “what's going on, boss?”

“it's nothing, no need to fret.”

“come on, boss. you let me speak truthfully without judgment, i'll do the same for you.”

his works are like a key, one that unlocks the box that holds all of your deepest thoughts. and with this newfound freedom, they come rushing off your tongue like a waterfall.

“i'm scared that i haven't done enough for this hotel, for everyone. i know it's running smoothly right now, that's all thanks to you and the rest of the staff, but what if it suddenly doesn't? what if the day something goes wrong is the day i can't be there to fix it because-”

even though you cut your words off, yunho knows what you're about to say. after all, a solution to that situation was supplied in his contract. and it reminds him that you're a lost soul too, waiting for the grim reaper to come guide you to the afterlife.

the courage that yunho was looking for earlier finally kicks in, leading him to take your hands and gently turn your body towards him. he puts on a smile, one filled with sincerity and admiration, and lays out his heart for you to hear.

“everything you've done, and will do because we both know you have more plans up your sleeve, it's more than enough. sure, the staff does loads of work to keep this hotel running, but so have you. your determination, creativity, and kindness act like a beacon that leads souls to this place where they can stay and rest while tying up loose ends.”

after hearing all of that, a tear falls from your eye. you go to wipe it away but his hand is already there, the pad of his thumb lightly caressing your cheek as he does so.

“and know that no matter who may come next, you will always be remembered as one of the best owners that this establishment has had the fortune of having.”

“dummy, you can't say that.”

yunho's face shifts slightly into a frown. “why not?”

“there's only been one person before me so it doesn't count.”

“well then, you're the best owner that hotel del amanecer has had the fortune and pleasure of having.”

“now you're just asking to be haunted-”

the two of you dissolve into a puddle of laughter, smiles as wide as the crescent moon shining upon you at that moment. when you finally calm down from the serotonin, you do something that the young manager never expected, not even in any lifetime: you kiss his cheek.

it's bad enough that he barely got his blush under control, now he's fighting (and clearly losing) to keep his whole face from darkening into a scarlet hue. his mind and heart are trying to work together to get him to say something—do something—but they come up empty-handed. so now he's looking like a realistic statue that should be in the lobby, not on the rooftop with you, his boss who clearly doesn't know the effect you have on him.

“come on, let's go downstairs and grab a drink. i'm sure yuehua has got two vacant seats with our names on them.” you phrase it like a demand, but it's actually an invitation.

this time, he knows how to answer it. “lead the way, boss.”

“y/n. just call me y/n, manager jeong.”

“well in that case, call me yunho.”

and throughout the whole walk to the bar, he doesn't call you out for still holding his hand. nor does anyone else who notices it, not even kang yejin of room 1117, who realizes that she's fighting a losing game. it isn't the ideal way to let anyone down, let alone a lovestruck ghost who can probably haunt him, but que sera sera—whatever happens, happens.

just like one day, you'll move on. and after some time, he might too. but for now, he likes the feeling of being by your side, red cheeks and all. it'll make a nice memory that he can look back on during those days you come to mind.

perhaps, if fate will allow it, you'll come back to him too.

"no, yeah. i understand that dilemma. especially now that i've tasted it..." yejin couldn't believe it, it felt too bold to say, but it was possibly the best mac and cheese she'd ever had. "mai, i wish i could say that you don't owe me anything because who wouldn't want a shopping spree just because they disagreed with you. but i can't lie." with all seriousness yejin can muster up, "mai, i think this is the best pasta i've ever had. and i know that's bold to say because mac and cheese is so different from like the cacio y pepe's and carbornaras of the world. but this is something else. and i don't know how to live unless we come back and order this like at least once or twice a month."

“It was the East Sea Group. From Jeju. Do you remember when you dissolve partnership after suspicions of debt subsidies?” Her advisor briefs her, but half of her attention was at the operating doors. “They investigated one of the men and he confessed. What’s the plan?”

It was a miracle she wasn’t the one completely hurt. Her team would rather have part of her missing than deal with losing the head of the company. It appeared no one knew the truth. She was unsure if the pain in her chest was from her injury, or the brace that hindered motion temporarily. All she was waiting for is that Ryunosuke is okay, and that everything will be okay.

“Miss Choi?”

“The current head to ToraCo is there because of me…” confessing as though she was in church, her hushed tone indicated seriousness outside of her usual professional manner. “I know for a fact he wouldn’t want me to inform his parents… I’m praying no one is waiting for him at home.”

“It’s a difficult matter, Miss Choi. But there’s also something you need to handle.”

The wrath was still there. Minseo was aware she needed to control it. A time to make a decision isn’t now after having Ryunosuke as collateral. The doors open and she jolts up to approach the doctor, only to be assisted in frustration because of her injury. She waited for good news, it was tense between all everyone that was in the hall.

“Mr. Park is stable. It’s fortunate the injury wasn’t severe though he may have trouble with healing,” All she heard was he was alright, and everything else needed to be take care of on her own accord. “Ah— Ms. Choi. I’d advise him to stay in the hospital. I would assume he’s under your supervision for the time being…. His father may hear word soon, and I’m unsure what to say.”

Connections of the underworld doesn’t stray far from where it started. It was a domino effect and someone probably already knows of the ambush at the Choi grounds. This territory doesn’t run free under Minseo’s call considering it wasn’t her home country. She had power but not all.

She expresses gratitude to the doctor, ensuring nothing will differ from how she treated those who worked for her back home. Her requests were immediate and the first thing to ask was a phone, her advisor was confused on who she requested…

“I know it’s you unnie~~” Yejin teases, chuckling a little with Minseo’s urgency. “Miss ya~”

“Shake your branches little tree—“ there was a heavy pause. The code for an underground request with in the family was something the younger latter hasn’t heard in ages. It was safe to say Yejin wasn’t expecting it with her silence on the line. Minseo repeats herself once more, urgency grits her teeth. “Shake your br—“

“Toss gold and silver down on me.”

“I was ambushed at my home in Hokkaido. We investigated the leader of East Sea group. Someone will be sending you more information. 32 million won on tab if you could do it for me.”

Yejin curses under her breath with the amount, what an oddly specific number…? “This… seems too soon— Are you alright?”

“I wished you asked after…” there was a soft huff, pressing a finger between her brows. “‘m fine, everything is settled but I can't leave him until I know he'll be okay.”

“Ah.” It humored her, really. Even before, she'd never recieved this much from her family. “Alright, anything else, boss?”

“I want that man’s ring finger in my office.” It was a serious request, one where it didn’t appear to be out of ordinary between the two women. “Finish this with in a week. They’ll be meeting you at the hangar if you need anything, Chaewon.”

“—I... it’s Yejin now.”

Minseo’s frustration must’ve spoken for her, with the stress piling up that she can’t even have basic respect. Realization hits after the correction, and she sighs out tense emotions. There was a brief pause, herself apologizing soon after.

“Thank you, Yejin.”

“Yejin has been reported to have come back to the weapons hangar.” Her advisor speaks into the blue, looking over to Ryunosuke who’s woken up after a few hours. His suspicion adverts towards her. “We’ve secretly requested her to be followed just incase, as requested. they reported she did incredibly well...”

“What did you do..?” Ryunosuke wonders, not wanting her to dive into much over it. “It was an accident... You didn't know."

“We’ve also instructed guards for Yohan’s safety, as a precaution."

"Geez, Minseo you're acting like--"

"YOU COULD'VE DIED...!" She finally spills the pent up frustration, taking a sharp breath and the outburst alone made everyone tense. She didn’t need a lecture, and was asked that they be left alone. "You’re in danger— everyone will be in danger. It comes back to me— Can you let me do this? I have to do this because you just never fucking know,"

"—But I didn't." Ryunosuke was stern, despite a pressure he felt when he spoke. There was a soft grunt that prevented him from arguing any further. Arguing with Minseo wasn't always the best. "I'm fine, see?"
