Current State of NaLu:

The new 100YQ chapter just reaffirms the current theory of Natsu thinking him and Lucy are dating without asking her or knowing that she doesn't think the same 😭.

NaLu was never "will they, won't they", it's "when will they (realize that they're totally not on the same page about their relationship despite having mutual feelings because one is thinking about marriage while the other is convinced her feelings are unrequited)"

I’m afraid that the nalu fandom will be disappointed no matter how great Mashima writes their confession scene. But I can’t blame the fandom for setting high expectations — it’s Mashima who curated this difficult situation. He’s prolonged the inevitable for so long that his only way out is to do it badly or not do it at all.

The fandom has had almost 20 years to write fanfics, make fanart and come up with headcanons that speculate about how Natsu and Lucy finally will get together. 1 canon scene can’t possibly make up for the hundreds of thousands, no, probably millions of ways the fandom made them get together. It’s Mashima’s fatal flaw. He made two too good, too loved characters, and now he can’t live up to the expectations everyone has on them.

i see your "natsu has proposed to lucy with dragon gifts and she has no idea" headcannon and raise you "every other 1st/3rd gen dragon slayer also believes they're married because of it".

of course gajeel saw it as a competition and tried to one up him with obscure dragon gifts until levy 'emotional intelligence' mcgarden realised he was up to something and corrected him.

everyone sting and rouge have met also believe it because the two of them casually talk about how they're married.

wendy thinks natsu is the most romantic partner ever and it has subconsciously set her standards for her future relationships.

because laxus and erik weren't raised by dragons they don't understand but neither of them care enough to correct or explain the situation.

So aparently this is my first digital art since 2018...!? I've been trying a lot of different and fun things.

When I was younger, I used to hate romance in fiction (for a variety of reasons). Erza and Jellal, though, were the first love story that managed to touch me and make me cheer for them to be together. Many years have passed since I first read Fairy Tail, and I'm now a lot more open to reading romance, but these two are still my favorite fictional couple ♡
