@lcstinfantasy asked: ❛ are you ever going to choose me ? ❜ - from reign
"What are you talking about?" Mason was confused, tilting his head. "Pretty sure I did choose you - but if you're talking about serious, Reign, I told you that wasn't going to happen. I don't settle down."

Long before, radio stations already broke my Nadiege listener's heart with their songs. The melody reigned supreme. At first, however, the idea did not arouse enthusiasm because of the commercials. I hated listening to the radio for this reason. And the program or the announcer announced; Here comes a DJ returning from a season in Europe, he brought songs in his luggage, which he tries to sell without success. And another DJ was hired to run the radio, I was already fed up and decided to invest in something new, buy a cell phone and look for commercial-free radio apps. Before, however, Rádio OiFM, in Rio de Janeiro (English music), was already starting to say goodbye, "and my happiness ended". And two more stations went on air and would return my happiness with the European dance music genre, one of the DJs was the most played.

It was an immense success - especially among housewives like me - the radio stations guaranteed my happiness and had high audience ratings and soon became privileged showcases for sponsors. The production brought together a huge contingent of professionals - professionals from Rádio JP alone brought together more than 15 DJs per week, some coming from other countries, others trained by the radio itself. The most powerful vehicle of mass communication, radio ended up functioning as a fertile source of talent that would be recruited by tv?

Cleopatra's Needle (New York City)
Cleopatra's Needle in New York City is one of three similar named Egyptian obelisks and was erected in Central Park (at 40°46′46.67″N 73°57′55.44″W, west of the Metropolitan Museum of Art) on 22 February 1881. It was secured in May 1877 by judge Elbert E. Farman, the United States Consul General at Cairo, as a gift from the Khedive for the United States remaining a friendly neutral as the European powers – France and Britain – maneuvered to secure political control of the Egyptian government.
Made of red granite, the obelisk stands about 21 metres (69 ft) high, weighs about 200 tons,[1] and is inscribed with Egyptian hieroglyphs. It was originally erected in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis on the orders of Thutmose III, in 1475 BC.[1] The granite was brought from the quarries of Aswan, near the first cataract of the Nile. The inscriptions were added about 200 years later by Ramesses II to commemorate his military victories. The obelisks were moved to Alexandria and set up in the Caesareum – a temple built by Cleopatra in honor of Mark Antony or Julius Caesar – by the Romans in 12 BC, during the reign of Augustus, but were toppled some time later. This had the fortuitous effect of burying their faces and so preserving most of the hieroglyphs from the effects of weathering.
Moving the obelisk
The formidable task of moving the obelisk from Alexandria to New York was given to Henry Honychurch Gorringe, a lieutenant commander on leave from the U.S. Navy. The 200-ton granite obelisk was first shifted from vertical to horizontal, nearly crashing to ground in the process. In August 1879[5] the movement process was suspended for two months because of local protests and legal challenges. Once those were resolved, the obelisk was transported seven miles to Alexandria and then put into the hold of the steamship SS Dessoug, which set sail 12 June 1880.[6] The Dessoug was heavily modified with a large hole cut into the starboard side of its bow. The obelisk was loaded through the ship's hull by rolling it upon cannonballs.[7]
Placing the Obelisk in the Hold of the Steamship Dessoug
Despite a broken propeller, the SS Dessoug was able to make the journey to the United States.[7] The obelisk and its 50-ton pedestal arrived at the Quarantine Station in New York in early July 1880. It took 32 horses hitched in pairs to bring it from the banks of the East River to Central Park. Railroad ramps and tracks had to be temporarily removed and the ground flattened so that the obelisk could be rolled out of the ship, whose side had been cut open once again for the purpose. The obelisk was carried through the Hudson River.[1] The final leg of the journey was made by pushing the obelisk with a steam engine across a specially built trestle bridge from Fifth Avenue to its new home on Greywacke Knoll, just across the drive from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.[8] It took 112 days to move the obelisk from Quarantine Station to it resting place.[9]
Jesse B. Anthony, Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York, presided as the cornerstone for the obelisk was laid in place with full Masonic ceremony on 2 October 1880. Over 9,000 Masons paraded up Fifth Avenue from 14th Street to 82nd Street, and it was estimated that over 50,000 spectators lined the parade route. The benediction was presented by R.W. Louis C. Gerstein. The obelisk was righted by a special structure built by Henry Honychurch Gorringe. The official ceremony for erecting the obelisk was held 22 February 1881.

A Gothic Disaster: St. Peter of Beauvais Cathedral
Tumblr media
The Cathedral of St. Peter of Beauvais was an ambitious project with lofty goals. It was supposed to be bigger and better than the other cathedrals being built at that time. But, it was not to be. Instead, Beauvais Cathedral wound up as one of the most unluckiest projects of its time, the unfortunate victim of its own elaborate architectural plan, which was hindered by both funding problems and structural defects. Construction would be halted numerous times for any number of reasons. It has never been completed. The church has only its 16th century transept, choir, apse and seven apsidal chapels.
Construction started on the eastern transept in 1225 and it was meant to become the grandest church in all of France. When the cathedral opened in 1272, it was the tallest monument for four years straight, standing at 159 ft at its tallest point. However, in 1284, the choir vault along with several flying buttresses, collapsed. This collapse was a turning point in Gothic architecture, as now masons were hesitant to build such tall structures, marking the beginning the age of smaller structures. However, building of the monolithic cathedrals continued, with an improved architectural design. More columns were added in the chevet and choir, and the ceiling vaults went from four ribs to six ribs, called  sexpartite vaulting.
𐰸 An example of sexpartite vaulting, as this one seen here, from Lyon cathedral𐰸
Tumblr media
After the collapse, work started immediately to shore up the remaining parts. But, after the death of King Charles IV of France, who left no male heir to carry on his reign, unrest and warring broke out. And thus started The Hundred’s Year War, halting any further progress on repairs to the cathedral. Luckily there was only minor damage to the cathedral and,150 years after the original construction started, once again work resumed. Twenty years after work started, its architect, Martin Chambiges, dies. This explains the fact why the turrets of the roof are in more of a Renaissance style, and, once again the transept is completed.
For whatever reason, it was decided that instead of building a nave, the money would go to build a grand spire (this would, later, literally prove to be the cathedral’s downfall). It took six years to complete and was almost 502 feet tall, making the cathedral the tallest building in the world! But, as luck would have it, on April 30, 1573, the spire and three levels of the Bell tower collapsed. Fortunately no one was killed. So, once again, construction and repairs start. In 1600 plans to build the nave begin, but only one arch is completed. Without a nave for some support, it left the cathedral in quite the precarious state. Interesting point of fact here, there is a small Romanesque church dating back to the 10th-century, known as the Basse Œuvre, that occupies the site where the nave of the Beauvais Cathedral was supposed to be built.
Wars were a real jinx to Beauvais. In 1793, during the French Revolution, the church was ransacked. All the statues in the doorways were beheaded and the interior desecrated. During the bombings in World War II, the cathedral was further damaged, BUT, it did remain standing! Most of the stained glass windows were destroyed and the organ rendered useless.
𐰸 Beauvais (in the distance) and the aftermath of WW II 𐰸
Tumblr media
In 1993, things began shifting once again. The north transept had four large wood-and-steel lateral trusses at different heights, installed to keep it from collapsing. Also, the main floor of the transept is punctuated by a much larger brace that juts out of the floor at a 45-degree angle. It was placed as an emergency measure to give additional support to the pillars in an effort to stave off any further movement. Then, in 2000, scaffolding was erected around the façade, as renovations and solidification of the building began. Presently, Columbia University is performing a study on a three-dimensional model using laser scans of the building in an attempt to pinpoint where the weaknesses are greatest to see what further can be done to shore up the building.

Best Athletes Biographies: Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh
Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, (born July 30, 1977, Los Angeles, Calif.born Aug. 15, 1978, Santa Clara, Calif.), For American duo Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in 2008, not even water falling from the Beijing sky could rain on their parade as they became the first beach volleyball team to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals. In the final match on August 21, May-Treanor and Walsh ignored a steady downpour and drenched bathing suits to beat Wang Jie and Tian Jia of China 21–18, 21–18 to continue their four-year reign over women’s beach volleyball. The match was the American pair’s 108th consecutive victory and their 14th straight Olympics win (they did not lose a set either in Beijing or in Athens at the 2004 Olympics). In their first post-Olympic tournament, May-Treanor and Walsh extended their winning streak to 112 matches, but it came to an end on August 31 with a 21–19, 10–21, 25–23 loss to Olympic teammates Elaine Youngs and Nicole Branagh in the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) Crocs Cup Shootout in Mason, Ohio. The defeat also ended the pair’s streak of 19 straight titles—quite an accomplishment for a team that had started playing together only in 2001.

Misty May grew up in California and played indoor volleyball at Long Beach State, where she led her team to the 1998 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title in her senior year. She then played for the U.S. national indoor team at the Pan Am Games, after which she decided to try her hand at beach volleyball instead. She teamed with Holly McPeak at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, finishing fifth after losing in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, 1.9-m (6-ft 2-in) Kerri Lee Walsh helped Stanford University win consecutive NCAA indoor volleyball titles in 1996 and 1997; she was named national co-player of the year in 1999. She moved on to play for the U.S. indoor team at the Sydney Games, finishing fourth.

May and Walsh teamed up on the sand in 2001 to finish with the number five ranking in the world before reaching number one in 2002. They got even better in 2003, winning a then-record 90 straight matches and all eight tournaments in which they played, including the world championships, where they upset the defending Brazilian champions in the final. That success carried over to the 2004 Olympics, in which they became the first American female tandem to win gold in beach volleyball. Following the Athens Games, they captured two more world titles, in 2005 and 2007.
In November 2004 May wed Major League Baseball player Matt Treanor, and Walsh married volleyball player Casey Jennings in December 2005. After the Beijing Olympics both women said that they would like to start families and take time off from competing in 2009, but first May-Treanor took on a different challenge as a contestant on the television show Dancing with the Stars. An injury she incurred while rehearsing, however, required surgery on her Achilles tendon. Neither May-Treanor nor Walsh ruled out the possibility of making a run at a third straight gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London. “I’m not done. I hope Misty’s not done,” Walsh said. “I can’t imagine playing beach volleyball without her.”

In the 10 years that Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been on the airwaves, each of the sisters has become a fashion and beauty mogul in her own right. Kim has KKW Beauty, Khloé has Good American, Kylie has Kylie Cosmetics and Kendall has become a bonafide supermodel. Now Kourtney‘s cementing her footprint in the fashion world, too.
The eldest Kardashian sister and mom to Mason, 7, Penelope, 5, and Reign, 2, is launching her first solo fashion collaboration with PrettyLittleThing, available starting tomorrow at 12am PST. The 32-piece “Studio 54, old Hollywood and ’70s-inspired” collection of sexy sequin mini dresses, faux fur jackets and sparkly biker shorts has Kourtney written all over it — but she didn’t go through the whole design process without a few opinions from her sisters (she is a Kardashian, after all).
“I see my sisters almost every single day, so while I was designing the collection, if I was going over fabric swatches and they were sitting next to me, I would ask their opinion, like confirming, ‘This is really a good dress, right?’ to just kind of get their stamp of approval.”
Of course, Kourtney is no stranger to putting her mark on the fashion world. The KUWTK star teamed up with her sisters in 2011 to launch their first clothing brand, Kardashian Kollection, sold at Sears, but this time she was ready to be the woman in charge. “With my sisters, we would always have to incorporate each other’s style into the collection. A lot of times Kim and Khloé would agree and maybe I wouldn’t agree, so we’d have to have a two-against-one rule,” Kardashian told us.

And her love for clothing design extends well beyond her time in the spotlight. The 38-year-old studied fashion design in high school and costume design in college, and still owns the same sewing machine she started using as a teenager.
“I used to sew my friends’ clothes on the weekend if we were going out and they wanted something, just for fun,” she told us. “My love of clothes since I was so young – playing in my mom’s closet and even my passion for interior design – has helped with this.”
In the end, once Kim and Khloé saw their sister’s final pieces, they totally approved of Kourtney’s work. “Khloé wrote me because she was out of town a lot when I was doing it, so I mostly showed it to Kim, but she was like, ‘Oh my god, congratulations. The collection looks amazing. I am so proud of you,’” she said.
Although at times on their hit E! reality show, fans see the sisters bicker and fight (can we all take a moment to remember Kourt and Khloé ruining Kim’s Bentley moment?) when it comes to their separate businesses, they’re each other’s biggest cheerleaders. “We’re 1000 percent supportive and there’s no competition at all,” Kourtney said. “I send inspiration to them all day. Like, if I am looking online and I see a cool ’90s makeup vibe, I’ll send that to Kylie.”
When designing her party-appropriate pieces, Kourtney always had one request: “I would always say, ‘This needs to be shorter, shorter, shorter!’” the petite 5-ft.-o-in. star said. “When I buy something I usually have to tailor it and shorten everything like four inches, but these dresses I didn’t have to do much at all.”
The pieces in Kourtney’s collection are affordably priced ranging from $12 to $100, which was a conscious effort she made to reflect her interest in mixing high fashion and lower-priced pieces. “I love an expensive shoe, so I like mixing an expensive shoe with a more affordable dress,” she said. “I think it’s all about wearing what you love and what makes you feel sexy.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Even though Kourtney’s PrettyLittleThing collection is totally inspired by her own style, we still had to ask her which pieces she would dress all of her family members in.
“I would say the bike shorts are so Kim. One of the colorful furs is definitely Khloé. Kendall, maybe the oversized blazer that you could wear over the bike shorts or as a dress with belt. I would love to see how Kendall would wear that,” she told us. “Kylie is definitely a dress girl — she’d be in one of the sequin dresses. For my mom, there’s a really cool high-neck black long sleeved dress with openings on the side. I could see Mamacita in that.”
And as for herself?
“My favorite piece is the black satin jumpsuit. I love that you can wear it from day-to-night, with sneakers, with boots, with heels or a belt,” Kourtney said. “There are a lot of different ways you can wear it.”

Hyperallergic: Inside LA’s Newest Art Museum, the Private Foundation of Fashion Moguls

LOS ANGELES — On May 25, a new private art institution opened its doors in downtown Los Angeles. The Marciano Arts Foundation (MAF) — it prefers not to be referred to as a museum — welcomed the public into its 110,000 sq. ft. building that contains over 55,000 square feet of exhibition space.
Originally designed by California painter and architect Millard Sheets as a Scottish Rite Masonic Temple, the building had been vacant since 1994. The structure’s original mosaics and exterior sculptures have been largely left intact, and the opening last month marks the first time the building will be open to the general public. This new sizable art institution is courtesy of Guess Inc. co-founders Paul and Maurice Marciano, who conceived of the space as an ‘Artist’s Playground.’
The space will host temporary exhibitions, welcome site-specific installations, and house the Marcianos’s 1,500-piece contemporary art collection. The duo have focuses their collecting on art from after 1990s, including artists such as Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, and Takashi Murakami, and their personal collection occupies the top floor of the building. In the main lobby, visitors are greeted by a mural-sized work by Cindy Sherman flanked by sculptures by David Hammons.
The building and its Masonic history, plays heavily into MAF’s inaugural exhibitions. For their launch, the museum chose an established LA artist who has never had a comprehensive solo show in the city before, Jim Shaw. His large The Wig Museum installation fills a good portion of the galleries. The artist drew heavily on artifacts left behind in the temple by the Masons, from the wigs to enormous backdrops used in the Masons’ elaborate pageants. He created a maze-like installation in the massive multi-story main space, which had previously been a multi-level 2,000-seat theatre.
Another site-specific piece occupies a dark room on the second floor; inside a unique tent is a “sculptural theater” video piece by Ryan Trecartin and Lizzie Fitch. Titled “Ledge,” the artists were given free reign inside the empty temple for three months before the renovation began to create their six-channel video.
With such an extraordinary building the art inhabiting it is going to have to be up to the challenge.
