So, I caved in and I did it in detail! A few days ago I posted a meme of the Charlos lore iceberg but then I had some people asking about some bits and I thought, oh, might as well make the whole masterpost. LOW AND BEHOLD, it is here; an extensive compilation of the rich Charlos lore

DISCLAIMER: before we begin I must note a few things. First, this isn't a whole detailed timeline of Charles&Carlos' relationship and every single bit of their moments bc I would've genuinely gone insane, so, like with the iceberg meme, this is merely key details of their relationship that make ME particularly unwell. This is also almost 2K words long. Lastly, not all points are linked as some of them are rather quite simple to find with an easy Google search

They have the same name in different languages. (In fact, Carlos has explained that his ‘chilli’ nickname comes from the fact that a lot of his friends went from calling him ‘charlie’ to calling him ‘chilli’). Their name is of Germanic origin and it means “free man”. Charles is the French/English version of it, Carlos is the Spanish one.

Beginnings & Pre-Ferrari era (2017-2020)

“I knew you before you knew me” – Charles said he had heard about Carlos when he was coming up in racing while Carlos was competing in KF3 (2008-2009)

They were already hanging out by 2017, when Charles was still only a Ferrari academy driver – as told by a reddit user who works in the Yas Marina circuit and shared the story with a tiny Renault helmet signed by Carlos

The Curious Case of Charlos and Pierre Gasly’s PR accusations – During a fan forum in the Singapore GP ’23 weekend, Carlos joked that he would’ve picked Charles to be stuck with in a deserted island, saying: “You see, I would’ve picked Charles, Esteban, I like my teammate” (because Esteban had been asked the same question just before and upon being told he wasn’t allowed to pick his own teammate, Esteban jokingly went: “I wasn’t going to pick Pierre anyway”).

Pierre and Esteban Ocon had a rocky relationship as teammates in Alpine, on top of having an already complicated past together since they’ve known each other since they were kids. Nearing the end of 2023 season, after Pierre (and Esteban) had been criticized for their poor relationship, Pierre talked about friendships in the paddock in an interview and he name-dropped Carlos and Charles, claiming that people “shouldn’t think that they’re all friends”. Despite Pierre having also named Mercedes and Red Bull pairs, people seemed to only latch onto Charlos

It’s important to note that Pierre Gasly is the driver Charles is famously closest to in the whole grid (as they’ve been friends since childhood) but also, he was teammates with Carlos in Toro Rosso for two races in 2017, and is fairly one of the drivers that are close-ish to Carlos as well. In fact, Pierre sometimes hangs with both of them, too.

Lee is re-watching Sherlock for some fucking reason - Season One

I'm well aware that the crossover between "currently popular and loved British comedian in the US updates, thirst, and accoutrements" and "BBC show that went so off the rails that people now like to pretend Andrew Scott's breakout role was the Hot Priest in Fleabag" is limited, but weirdly, returning to Sherlock was one of the few things that was keeping my brain somewhat grounded and whirring during Work Hell.

We're in uncharted territory here. You're gonna learn a bit about the things I do when I'm not tracking John Oliver obsessively. I am nervous about this but hey, I'm guessing most of you knew I don't solely live and breathe John Oliver. (I know. I have multitudes. This is a shocking revelation. Please take time to process it.)

Firstly, a content note - there's going to be discussion about queerbaiting and queercoding villains, and the beginning of this goes into some of James Somerton's absolutely disgusting claims about the AIDS crisis. This post will only be focused on Season One, as that's all I've finished at this point.

My sudden re-emergent hyperfixation started because of the hbomberguy takedown of James Somerton, weirdly. I don't follow many YouTubers - I like Bright Sun Films because he goes urban exploring, something I've always wanted to do but have never managed to make happen, and also Todd in the Shadows, whose Trainwreckords series is very well-done and expertly researched. Seeing that name, you might know where this is going. Todd dropped a video about James Somerton, who I had never fucking heard of and now wish I'd known about before, so I could scream bloody murder about what an absolute fuckwad he is.

(I don't want to get too in the weeds here, but the things James asserted about WWII, Nazis, and the AIDS crisis are so vehemently offensive that I'm still struggling with them. Claiming that only boring gays survived the AIDS crisis in particular is so vile that I have gotten anger flashes thinking about it almost daily since hearing it.)

Todd recommended watching all four hours of the hbomberguy plagiarism video, and I ran that in the background while working about two weeks ago. Eventually I had to stop doing that because the plagiarism revelations were so distracting and shocking. Todd's video was even more of a goddamn mindfuck, and even the smaller, less offensive things have taken up far too much space in my brain. Californians, does anyone at all deify Bob Iger??? Like... what the goddamn fuck??? Bob Iger????

After watching one hbomberguy video, the algorithm did its thing, and gave me a video called "Sherlock is Garbage and Here's Why". Posting it here for posterity:

Because my brain works in mysterious ways (-cough-ADHD-cough-), watching this... made me want to rewatch Sherlock.

I initially saw Sherlock for the first time thanks to someone I met in my last year of college, 2012. At the time, Michael (a nickname) was my neighbor in the dorms; over the past ten years, she's become one of my closest friends and a true rock in my life. One of the first things we bonded over that I introduced her to was the San Francisco Giants and the ghost I will always be chasing, Tim Lincecum; one of the first things we bonded over that she introduced me to was BBC Sherlock. The show was in the early months of its extended hiatus after Season Two, at the height of its fandom, and we were both completely obsessed. I read all the Doyle stories, took in a truly wild amount of fanfiction, wrote a not-very-popular AU fic, became part of a strange inter-dorm ARG based on Sherlock orchestrated by Michael... it consumed a huge part of our lives.

When Season 3 dropped, I almost stopped watching after "The Empty Hearse". I don't want to get into why it offended me so much before we get to a Season 3 post, but just know my enthusiasm severely dampened there. The rest of Season 3 I think of with blase emotions, especially the ending, which I found just dumb, save one part of it. I recall going to see The Abominable Bride in theatres with my mom (and maybe Michael?), and I think I liked it fine - aside, again, from the ending. But I had no interest in a Season Four, and when it dropped, Michael's long rambling phone calls describing the absolute shitstorm of a plot cemented that I was never going to watch it again.

Until now.

I definitely don't think the hbomberguy video is perfect. His insistence that Doyle canon never had Holmes pull answers to cases out of his ass is... something, lol, as is his opinion that changing the solution to certain puzzles in A Study in Pink disrespects the original canon. (Bro, these stories have been retold a bajillion times, they need to mix it up to keep it interesting.) But he put a finger on something that I'd wrestled with regarding Sherlock for a long time - that the show's writing often teased something big and new and conclusive in the horizon, but almost never delivered. That wasn't an issue in early days when there was less invested in an increasingly convoluted mythic story, or when they weren't fully blowing off the resolutions to cliffhangers, but the flaw in writing a story where you promise something huge on the horizon and never deliver should be obvious.

The first season doesn't trade much in that idea, and going back to it was something I found exceptionally enjoyable!

Before I watched:

I remembered bits and pieces of "A Study in Pink" and the whole plot in summary.

I truly didn't remember anything about "The Blind Banker" except that I found it fairly 'yellow peril'-y when I saw it in 2012.

I mixed up huge chunks of Season Two's "A Scandal in Belgravia" with "The Great Game" in my head and somehow forgot the main plot thrust was Moriarty kidnapping people and strapping bombs to them.

I genuinely forgot Sebastian Moran was a character basically hallucinated into existence by the fandom and didn't appear in the show at all until a brief appearance in Season Three.

In a way, it was like I was watching the show for the first time all over again. My partner also watched the first season with me, and it was interesting to get his thoughts on the show as we watched.

To start, his favorite character is Mycroft. Watching Season One, I had to agree that Mycroft has a depth of character that I'd forgotten about. Mark Gatiss plays him perfectly, aloof and smarter than you but unsure of how to deal with his natural feelings of concern and fear for his oft-spiraling, danger-seeking younger brother - and how those feelings magnify with the influence of extreme danger-seeker (at least in this season) John Watson. The show wants you to believe so badly that he's Moriarty in "A Study in Pink", which I don't think works even if you know he isn't Moriarty - there's a warmth to Gatiss' Mycroft that, even while he's doing incredibly ominous things like shutting off all cameras in a busy intersection, still comes through.

My favorite character is Moriarty. I haven't mentioned this very much here, because why would I, but my favorite character type in media is "theatrical abject shithead". It's why I cosplay Bakugo from My Hero Academia and loved everything about Akechi in Persona 5. Hell when I was a kid, I told teachers that when I grew up, I wanted to join Team Rocket. I love the theatrical shitheads. And boy, is Moriarty some sort of theatrical shithead. I don't DISAGREE with hbomberguy pointing out that, as written, Moriarty is a complete mess of a character, a queer-coded literal terrorist with no motivations besides "I did that because I'M CRAAAAZY!"... but he's my queer-coded literal terrorist, ok? I could write a whole paper on all the harmful stereotypes inhabiting this version of Moriarty... but I can't deny that the flamboyance and violence pulsing just beneath the surface of Andrew Scott's performance was the beating heart of that show for me. Sure, Sherlock and John, at least early on, were a compelling duo, but the show was at its best with Moriarty pulling strings for inexplicable reasons in the background. I love him.

(An aside: watching Sherlock made me remember how hilarious it was to see basically every major actor from the show in one of my favorite movies of all time, 1917, to the point that I actually kinda laughed in the theatre thinking about it.)

The entirety of the first season also is more devoted to actual crime-solving and detective work than I remembered the show being. I think that works strongly in its favor, and as I recall things from later seasons, drifting from that element definitely hampers the show greatly. In particular, while the lazy and uncomfortable Orientalism of "The Blind Banker" is still incredibly glaring, the actual mystery at the core of it is very excitingly tracked and easily followed while watching. The fact that John is treated like an equal (mostly) throughout only enhances my thoughts on that. "The Great Game" is a little more slapdash (and hurt by the fact that the entire Vermeer section would be solvable with a smartphone nowadays), but you can still make connections mentally with most of the cases and deduction/investigation is being shown logically. (hbomberguy cites the Golem as a problematic logical leap akin to some of Season Two's dumbest, and I can't agree. It's a reasonable suspension of disbelief to assume Sherlock knows about assassins and is followed by some more sensible investigation and inspection of the Golem's victim. The sequence of Sherlock fighting the Golem, however, is very, very silly.)

Related to that... the autopsy doctors on this show are fucking AWFUL at their jobs. Like straight-up negligently awful. How in the actual fuck did they not investigate the puncture marks on Connie Price's body? How did they not notice a highly distinctive heel tattoo on three recently-murdered corpses? Is Molly the only vaguely competent person in the mortuary? My partner and I were extremely amused that, while Lestrade and his police force are thankfully shown with much more intelligence than in other Holmes adaptations and BBC!Watson wouldn't think jam is a clue, the writers seem to have shunted the stupidity straight to the invisible autopsy doctors.

The first season also does a good job of making Sherlock seem like an overly intelligent if socially stunted human being, instead of the condescending prickish intellectual Ubermensch he ends up becoming as the show progresses. "A Study in Pink"'s ending being Sherlock throwing aside his deduction of the cabbie's killer when he realizes it's Watson, unconvincingly lying to Lestrade and insisting he's in shock before rejoining the other man and genuinely bonding with him, is remarkably compelling as fulfillment of a promise we get from Lestrade earlier in the episode - "Sherlock Holmes is a great man. One day he may even be a good one." My memory is admittedly faulty, but part of why "The Empty Hearse" turned me off so viscerally was Sherlock's (and to an extent, Mycroft's) insufferable growing smugness, particularly where explaining plans or mysteries to John. We get told often that Watson humanizes Sherlock and that the two have a strong bond throughout the series, but Sherlock gets much more dickish in general as the series progresses. One thing I do remember with stark clarity is that after being utterly chastised at a Christmas party in "A Scandal in Belgravia", Sherlock does visibly treat Molly MUCH better throughout the remainder of the show. So, uh, why did we lose that energy with the show's central pairing?

Speaking of the show's central pairing, the queerbaiting starts SO EARLY on this show. I want to make it clear that obviously the benefit of hindsight and knowledge of how the show ends really colors a lot about the Johnlock relationship now, and as a society, we're more aware of what queerbaiting is and what it looks like, which will obviously alter how I perceive these interactions now. I also want to make it clear that I never really shipped Johnlock outside of just kind of assuming that it would be canon because everyone seemed really convinced of it. (I was an absolute degenerate that shipped John with Moriarty. On top of enjoying theatrical disasters, I enjoy ships with an abundance of chaos and impossibility.) There's some biases at play here.

Even so, we are not far into the episode where John is protesting that obviously he needs a second bed in 221B to Mrs. Hudson, he's not gay! The scene in the restaurant has such an aggressively shippy energy to it (despite Watson's consistent denials) that I actively commented on it to my partner as it was happening, saying "the queerbaiting happens WAY SOONER than I thought!" It's distracting and has aged absolutely terribly. The worst by far is John quipping, after being removed from a bomb vest at a pool in "The Great Game", that people will talk because of Sherlock ripping his clothes off in a darkened swimming pool. Why is Watson's heterosexuality so fragile that he's thinking about gossip rags as he's actively recovering from a near-death experience?!

(Aside: I'm aware that last point is not as effective when you think about the fact that I shipped two characters whose sole canonical interaction was one man kidnapping and forcing the other into a bomb vest. In my defense, a) I love mess and b) John never quips about thinking people will talk because he got kidnapped.)

Moriarty's first appearance in "The Great Game" sees him as Molly's fake boyfriend slipping a phone number to Sherlock, which lead to my partner commenting about how distracting it also was, on top of the queerbaiting, that almost every single person on the show has some sort of deep metaphysical attraction to Sherlock. Those people aren't on the lighting and cinematography team for sure; Benedict Cumberbatch is lit ominously and sometimes demonically throughout the first season, highlighting his antihero and brusque nature effectively. But many, many characters in the show - just in season one, Molly, Moriarty, multiple characters of the day, the Cabbie, and John - are all drawn to Sherlock and his very special brain and his very sharp cheekbones. Signs of a big future problem come through in this way, where the show starts sidelining Watson as our central figure and puts Sherlock squarely at the center of everyone's universe and makes lesbians fall in love with him.

(My partner also laughed pretty hard at how obvious Moriarty's pratfalls were as Molly's boyfriend, noting that the show was pretty bad at hiding who Moriarty was every time it came up.)

Some of the seeds of Sherlock's destruction are sown in this first season, obviously. The big one I haven't touched on is the ending cliffhanger itself. Moriarty has John and Sherlock trapped in the pool, tens of sniper sights trained on them, and says that he can't let them escape. Amazing cliffhanger here! It is not fulfilled on at all, but because Andrew Scott can carry anything on his back (including Spectre, which I cannot start talking about because we'll be here all day), the scene doesn't feel like a total waste and makes you want to hang on to find out what happens later.

But there was so much here that was delightful. All the acting is uniformly excellent, and the overt physical tics that come to define Sherlock's mind palace and mental prowess being showcased are barely evident here. The actual detective work, like I said earlier, is really involving! I don't feel like I figured out the solutions for the mysteries I couldn't recall the answers for too easily and thought Sherlock's deductive reason largely followed and wasn't too obscure. I'm still such a sucker for the show's style - that opening credits sequence is so perfectly put together, the text messages that interact with the scene and at the time made this show feel so fresh and modern to me, filming the character's faces in taxis through panes of glass and obscuring material in "A Study in Pink" to give everything an obfuscating sheen... give me all of it.

The music, too, was something I'd forgotten about and truly ended up adoring. Taskmaster (and The Horne Section's score for it) really owes a debt to Michael Price and David Arnold. So much of Sherlock's score could probably be dropped straight into a Taskmaster episode and I would have to think pretty hard to notice a difference in the show's usual musical palette. I've been eyeballing the vinyl on eBay, to give you an idea of how much I love this score. "The Game is On" is a perfect piece of music, clockwork spinning noises emphasizing the jauntiness of Sherlock as he drags Watson on his latest case before sliding into the more subdued, vaguely ominous thrum of its second movement descending into the madness of the third part, violins shrieking as the action reaches its apex.

Normally, with such a degree of pleasant surprise, I'd be eager to move forward to Season Two. Unfortunately, I know the first episode of Season Two is... a doozy. To say the least. A doozy that may get its own essay because of how doozy-ish it is.

Owen gives him a sad smile. "She does, TK. She used to talk about when you'd get married all the time."

There's a pause, and TK curls his fingers tighter around his mug, letting everything simmer between them.

"When I got married," TK quietly repeats. "Not if?"

The salty air, the pleasant sun, the way TK walks without a line of tension in his shoulders. He knows they’ve transcended all different sorts of honeymoon phases since they gave their relationship a real go a few years ago; he knows that they’ll still be them once Owen picks them up from Austin-Bergstrom and they go home to the loft and work and responsibilities and Lou II. But he doesn’t know how he’s supposed to go back to a life without his father.

Cap had told them they’d be able to take a few days off to grieve, and so she grabs the dog-eared paperback Carlos leant her a week or two ago and her headphones from her bunk and stuffs it all into her bag, approaching the stairs as she goes. It’s then that Marjan hears it, tiny but distinctive in the quiet firehouse: a thud, followed by the sound of frustrated cries, all suspiciously coming from the ambulance bay.

Marjan moves quickly, maneuvering deftly around workbenches and supplies in the bay, biting on the inside of her cheek when she sees the source of the noise: Nancy, hunched over in front of Tim’s locker, staring down at the box of his belongings that’s tipped over onto its side.

Shouto visits Touya just before Valentine’s Day.

“You almost killed yourself in one of these when you were a dumb baby, you know.”

Shouto looks at Touya curiously. The sun wanes in the sky, still an hour out from sunset. The koi pond they’re sitting by reflects golden hues in the scales of the fish.

“What happened?” she asks.

Touya doesn’t look at her, focusing on the fish beneath their dangling legs instead. She doesn’t mind. It’s enough for her that the two of them can sit here, like this.

“You stumbled into the pond when no one was watching. Mom must’ve been gardening or something, I don’t know. You didn’t even yell. I found you splashing pathetically, half frozen in the water with tears rolling down your face.”

Shouto kicks her legs. The action is freeing. She’d never been allowed to in childhood; her tutors would snap a wooden stick across her shins. “So you saved me.”

Touya scoffs. “You would have killed the fish, and that was the only good thing that godforsaken place had going for it.”

It’s quiet out here, in the countryside, away from Musutafu. Away from the house, from the history there. Their father is away in Fukushima for a charity event, no longer a working hero with what the War had brought out.

Strangely, Shouto thinks he doesn’t mind. It’s almost inconceivable to consider, that her father spends his time out here with Touya, away from the public eye. She can’t reflect on it for too long without it becoming difficult to breathe.

“No one saw?”

“Obviously not. You couldn’t even figure out how to dry yourself. Just sniffled with smoke coming off of you.” There’s a twitch at the edge of his lips as he follows the koi as they float, suspended in the cold water. “I had to pick water weeds out of your hair after I dried you.”

The only thing Endeavor used to tell her about her siblings was how jealous they were of her quirk, how they would be grateful for the training she received, how superior she was to them. The only thing she had ever heard about Touya was that he tried to kill her as a baby, and if she didn’t train diligently, she would turn out to be a failure like him.

These moments are a blessing she doesn’t deserve, to sit across her brother like this and reminisce, to hear things so different to what she knew. It causes an addicting warmth to rise in her chest.

She’s lucky. She’s so lucky. It could have all been so different.

“Should’ve let you drown, honestly.” Touya says, eyeing her.

“I don’t think my body would have been good for the ecosystem,” Shouto says. “Then I would have really killed the fish.”

“Look at you. An environmentalist on top of being the golden prodigy.”

There’s still some resentment behind the words. He’s watching her now, assessing her reaction. She never knows how to respond, can only hope that what she says won’t end in a fight.

“I’ll add the endorsement to my twitter bio.”

There’s no burst of blue flames, in fact, Touya — Touya snorts, rolling his eyes. “That’ll be the most exciting thing on your entire profile. How is it possible for you to be even more boring online?”

“I’m not boring,” Shouto defends. “I tweet about exciting things all the time.”

Touya is already pulling his phone out of his pocket. He was given internet access two months ago (monitored, of course). Fuyumi had made a group chat immediately, which Touya had tried to leave six times before Fuyumi had started a group call to yell at him. He doesn’t text often — mostly reacts 👎 to memes Natsuo sends, 🙄 to questions Shouto asks, and 🫡 to every single one of Fuyumi’s texts, including the one where she told him to stop adding reactions to every single one of her texts.

“I recently had the amazing opportunity to spend two weeks volunteering at JCN,” Touya reads, sarcasm dripping from every word. Shouto thinks he would have been good at being a stage actor, or maybe a newscaster.

…she keeps that thought to herself.

“That is exciting,” Shouto interrupts. “And it’s important. Did you know that 93% of cats who are returned are euthanized? It’s even worse with the recent zoning changes —”

“You literally say exactly that here. I think you need more talking points.”

“You could volunteer with me next time.”

“Pass. I’d rather drown in the koi pond.”

“Not very environmentalist of you,” Shouto mutters.

Touya knocks his shoulder into hers. “Look at that,” he croons. “Baby’s first joke.”

They slip into silence. The sun slips further down in the sky. Shouto needs to leave eventually. She has class tomorrow, and her father will return here in the evening. Their relationship has gotten better, and Shouto has even forgiven him, but —

— but it was still hard, sometimes.

Empty trees shift with a slight breeze. The two of them sit in a single layer of clothing each. Their quirks are even more similar, now.

“Mom sent this for you,” she says, pulling an envelope and a small box out of her bag and handing it over. Touya raises an eyebrow but takes it from her, setting the package to the side, holding the letter in his hands.

He turns it over a few times. There’s only his name written on it, in their mom’s handwriting. It’s not a particularly thick letter, or anything particularly elaborate — Rei had used stationary gifted to her by Shouto. Touya sets it aside and opens the box.

“We made chocolate the other day,” Shouto offers by way of explanation. “Fuyumi helped. I brought you some.”

Touya picks up a chocolate piece between two fingers, but makes no move to eat it. After a few seconds, it melts instantly into his hand.

“Oh,” Shouto says. “I have some hand wipes —”

“Why are you still here?” Touya says, abruptly, coating his hand in ice and melting it off. The chocolate water drips into the pond. “You did your good deed for the month, and you can go home and sleep peacefully now.”

This happens, sometimes. The testing. The unsaid do you actually care? Shouto’s all too familiar with it herself. Pushing people away because letting them in made it your fault when they would hurt you.

(She can never convey just how deeply grateful she is for her friends, for pulling her in. )

She doesn’t move, but doesn’t push in closer either. “I didn’t visit to do a good deed,” Shouto rebuffs softly. “I visited because I wanted to spend time with you.”

“Right,” Touya scoffs. “Because you’re just so good and loving.”

“I’m not trying to be good,” Shouto says, trying not to let frustration leak into her voice. It’s a familiar conversation, and she’s not sure what spurred it, exactly. “I do love you. I come because I love you.”

“You’re fucked up, you know that, right?,” Touya says cruelly. “Just like me. I’ve tried to kill you your whole life, and you’re sitting here saying you love me.”

“You saved me, too,” she says quietly. Touya’s eyes narrow. “I don’t care if it’s fucked up. It won’t change.”

“How sentimental.”

There was nothing Touya hated more than sentiment.

“What did I do wrong?” Shouto says plainly.

“Why do you assume you did something wrong?”

“You’re upset. I made you upset.”

Touya rolls his eyes. “Not everything is about you, little hero.”

“But you’re upset.”

Touya stands up suddenly. The air around them heats up, and the frost over the pond begins to melt. Shouto doesn’t move, watching him carefully. “You seriously don’t get it,” he laughs. “You seriously don’t know.”

He stalks away from where they were sitting. Just when he’s gotten far enough that Shouto almost stands up to follow, he stops. She can see the energy slump from his form, and he turns back.

“You always needed things spelled out for you,” he mutters. “Could never understand hints unless they were said straight out to you. Even then, you’d still hang off of me until I pushed you off.”

Shouto waits.

“You’re the only one who makes such an effort, you know?” Touya says, finally. “If it wasn't for our birthdays just recently, I wouldn’t have even seen Mom. Even Natsuo barely knows what to say to me.”

Shouto doesn’t know what to say to that, either. She still lives at the dorms, only coming home for the weekend, and they’re still settling into their family dynamic at home.

“…I never saw Mom until I went myself,” she says eventually. “Sometimes I think it wasn’t a good idea. We…ended up crying making the chocolate. I think I made her cry. Even though she denied it.”

“Save it for your therapist,” Touya snaps.

“It’s not easy,” Shouto says. She takes a deep breath. It’s not easy to say this either, to be so candid about her feelings. But it was not talking about anything that got their family in this mess in the first place, so she continues. “We’re both learning. I think we might always be.”

“You want me to reach out,” Touya says, mirth underlying his words.

“Mom tried to save you at Gunga too,” Shouto says. “Most of your skin grafts are grown from,” she stops herself from saying what was left, “— from her.”

“This is how we show love in our fucked up family, huh,” Touya says.

“My therapist loves that topic,” Shouto shrugs, and Touya looks at her for a moment before doubling over with a wheeze.

“God,” he chokes out. “This is my life.”

“I’m happy you let me be part of it,” Shouto says.

“Fuck off,” Touya says back, but it’s without the heat of their earlier convo. He picks the chocolate back up. “Surprised you made chocolate and not your shitty noodles.”

“…”

Touya turns so quickly towards her Shouto has to suppress a flinch. “Don’t fucking tell me. Are you serious?”

Touya was always quick on the uptake. “I didn’t say anything,” Shouto says weakly. She’s glad they shifted conversation topics, but. This one?

“You?”

“I don’t know why that’s such a surprise,” Shouto says, definitely not sulking.

“What the fuck,” Touya says, laughing in disbelief. “Wow. Who is it?”

“…is that really important.”

“Yes,” Touya says with emphasis. “Absolutely. As your older brother, I have to know. It’s part of how things work. I have to approve.”

“What happened to our fucked up family dynamic?” Shouto asks.

“This is the only normal part,” Touya dismisses. “Tell me. Or the first thing I’ll tell Mom is that you never talk to me.”

“She’ll know that’s not true,” Shouto says, exasperatedly. Touya gestures give it up.

Shouto sighs. “It’s Bakugou.”

Touya’s silent for all of one second. “Explosion boy? You’re joking. This can’t be real. Shouto, he’s fucking crazy.”

“I just told you his name,” Shouto says. “And I’m crazy too.”

“You’re one of the sanest people I know,” Touya brushes off. “Unbelievable. He looked insane in that fight with AFO. Literally manic.”

Shouto is silent for just a little too long. “Shut the fuck up. You found that hot?”

“We’re friends,” Shouto stresses. “We get along. We have fun.”

“This is my next therapy topic,” Touya mutters.

“It’s really not that serious,” Shouto says.

“No, it really is. Unbelievable.” Touya eats a piece of chocolate, continuing to mutter to himself. “Blasty boy. Toga’s going to lose her mind.”

“Bakugou,” Shouto corrects, and Touya rolls his eyes with exaggeration.

The alarm on her phone rings, thankfully disrupting the moment. “That’s for my train,” Shouto says.

“You’re ru~nning~ a~way,” Touya singsongs.

“I am not.” Shouto stands, brushing dirt off the back of her skirt. Touya watches her lazily, making no move to get up himself. “I’ll tell you how it went the next time I visit.”

“I’m equal parts interested and horrified at finding out,” Touya says, looking up at her.

“You’re being dramatic again.”

“Yeah, yeah.” He waves his hand in the air languidly. “Feel free to never come back too. You won’t be missed.”

She can hold his gaze. There’s no trace of the glee she saw in the forest the first time, no manic glint from the first time he hugged her.

Or — not the first time, actually. A time. And if she’s lucky, if he lets her, it won’t be the last.

Shouto smiles. “See you in two weeks, Touya-nii.”

anyway, some backstory for recent posts

Surpising emotions about rediscovering an old interest

under a cut because 1) length 2) Homestuck is mentioned and I get the impression some people don’t like it very much.

Let us turn back the clock to spring 2008. I was in high school and my Standard Grade exams were just a couple of months away. I had a lot of favourite media, but relevant to this story are examples such as: Treasure Planet, Dan Brown books (which I have definitely left behind in that era, but for a while they were definitely A Thing in my brain), Operation Red Jericho by Joshua Mowll, The Mummy, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones. Hopefully you’re sensing a theme here: I would absolutely devour anything with an adventure/mystery combo, especially if it involved codes, maps, riddles, secret organisations etc. And one day, probably a weekend afternoon, we switched on the TV to find this film was on.

And that film... was National Treasure. And surpise surprise, during the scene inside the Charlotte (and over the course of the rest of the film) I got attached to Ben Gates like a limpet.

Things then followed a pattern which had already become very predictable in my life. I liked a character, which then quickly merged into liking an actor (in this case, Nicolas Cage) and of course then Special Interest Brain dictated that I then had to watch as many of his films as I could. Over the next few years I saw... pitifully few of them, now I’ve finally got up the nerve to look on IMDb, but enough to make it a thing (6 before I went off to uni). Unfortunately, because I am notoriously bad at keeping my interests to myself whether I want to or not, my family inevitably finds out within, like, a week of any new obsession, which as a teenager embarrassed me very greatly (and still does a bit). My mum did try to relate to me with such things (she even got my dad to watch one of the National Treasure movies but I don’t think he was that bothered about it tbh), but that usually only made me awkward because I was watching things with my mum and it was embarrassing.

My Nicolas Cage-watching would get one last hurrah in 2010, when I went to see the university film society’s screening of Kick-Ass in freshers’ week. Again, obsessed. Obsessed enough to go as Hit Girl for Halloween that year, but we all know the drill by now - the highkey messed-up (but my kind of messed-up character, with a tragic backstory, incredible combat skills and a cardigan) Damon Macready was really the blorbo of choice.

But what happened then? Why did I go from this high point to trying to avoid mentioning Nicolas Cage as much as possible? Two words: ‘the’ and ‘internet’.

I was already aware that some of Cage’s films were, to put it bluntly. not great. I had felt the cringe a bit even as a teenager, but I soldiered on. However, when I discovered social media and other similar websites, all the memes and jokes and so on made me even more embarrassed about it, and I felt like no one should ever know because I was worried that then even people whose opinions I respected would just laugh at me and tell me I had no taste, and other things of that nature. Some of those jokes were probably exaggerated for comic effect, but I’m really bad at judging tone and to me they read as straightforward mockery or dislike.

Fast-forward to 2023, a week or two ago. I have just moved to a new flat and have no wifi yet. But clever me thinks “ah, but I have the Unofficial Homestuck Collection saved to my laptop, which requires no internet, and the whole new-job-new-flat hassle means I did get behind on my routine catch-up reading. Let’s do that.”

Those of you who are familiar with Homestuck probably knew where this was going as soon as you read the word in this post. For those of you who don’t know, one of the main characters in Homestuck loves the movie Con Air. It’s referenced at least a few times (I’ve just started Act 5, so there may be more to come). There’s one scene (pp. 1660-1666, CW for some ableist language on the last page) that just really made me emotional because it connected this film with the friendship of two of the characters, and it was like a switch was flipped back on in my brain. Or more like pulling down one of those giant switches they pull down to give electricity to Frankenstein. I felt like I had gone through the cringe and come out the other side. I had to watch Kick-Ass and I had to watch it now. Or at least as soon as I got a free two-hour block of time. 

And then after a few days of reliving autumn 2010 (complete with Lady Gaga songs), I had to watch National Treasure. And I vowed that as soon as I got wifi I would watch The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which I had made myself avoid when it was first out. And now I have. I’m not quite on Javi’s level, because 1) I don’t have Javi’s budget and 2) I would have drawn the line at the sequinned cushion. But let me tell you, teenage me would have gone absolutely feral at that movie. I probably would’ve felt like I shouldn’t be allowed to watch the sauna and pool scenes, for a start. (Thankfully, I’ve become more chill and less wound-up about that sort of thing, relatively speaking.) But god, I had to really get up my nerve to make that ‘what is the internet’s opinion’ post. Now I’ve done that, and gone to the tags in a roundabout way by searching for related movies first and then tag-hopping, it’s a lot less scary. I even managed to look up IMDb, and ignore my brain shouting ‘THE SEARCH ENGINE WILL JUDGE YOU’.

So, my Nic Cage obsession is back “not that [it] went anywhere” (yes, that’s a reference to The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent). More to come, if I can find good content. Unless he gets overtaken by Good Omens

1 & 9 for my latest fic which would be soaked soul, bone deep tired

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way? this fic was from Steter Week and I did a smushed mess of all the prompts (visual and words) for each day and each of the visual prompts gave me a bit of a vibe I wanted for each day and I just ran with it once the inspiration finally hit. mostly I wanted to write Stiles as the more feral of the two. that was the big inspiration I guess? 9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic? there were no other versions of the fic but I did end up rewriting the 3rd chapter a couple of times before I managed to hit the right vibe for it that I was going for

3 & 11 for my first fic. I have no idea what my first fic would be for sure but my first posted on Ao3 (First Breath) is from just over 10 years ago so it would probably be around that time...

3: What’s your favorite line of narration? probably the last lines: The rest of the guys share a knowing look - the crowd was theirs now. They were trapped in the clutches of a predator they never even saw coming. 11: What do you like best about this fic? honestly just the fact that I actually wrote it and posted it and it has a lot of good memories of first getting into fandom as a writer and actually putting my stories out there for people and making new friends

Bonus Question Answer: if we go with that posted fic on Ao3 then I would have been 25, almost 26 (my birthday is in November and I posted that fic not quite a month before my 26th bday) but I've been writing bits and pieces of original stuff since I was... 12 or so.

First impression: TERRIFIED!! He was stupidly pretty and had a dragon, I knew he would end up a favorite, but I didn’t know how MUCH of a favorite, I needed to know what his problem was dhdhdhd

Impression now: I can't even put into words how much I love Mizael sometimes omfg, he had such an impact on me and I'm a little saddened at how quickly he was removed from the story in the end I need to rewatch more of his scenes, I'm very insecure about how I write Mizael and I really want to get his voice down One day I’ll finish his cosplay wig too, if I style all of the wigs for my favorite ships, I can convince people to cosplay with me surely (copium)

Favorite moment: His introduction is wild, like both him arriving to Alito and Girag but also him challenging Yuma Miza just shows up, shoots Tori with an energy blast, and then is just like we're dueling But then COMPLETELY forgets about Yuma as soon as Kaito shows up and whips his dragon out Also love when they have their little Barian meetings where they just bicker, they're truly real housewives

Idea for a story: I always have Mizael and Kaito ideas gjdkslajg Whether they're fics or oneshots, time usually tells, but my drafts definitely have quite a few for them saved Usually lots of dragon focused ones, obsessed with the idea of Photon and Tachyon eloping and them having to just deal with it Mizael going over dragons with Haruto...

Unpopular opinion: I don't know if there is anything the small Miza community doesn't agree on honestly jgdsklaj I'll just start drama, Miza's not a natural blonde

Favorite relationship: I feel like I don’t even need to say haha, Kaito and Mizael are incredible and I am cursing Zexal forever for not giving them more time because I feel like I'm blowing out steam looking at all of the loose threads I also love how much Durbe and Mizael respect each other, there's clearly a bond there between them, wish we saw it more I also wish we could have seen more of Mizael and Nasch since you can tell Mizael revered him quite a bit-

TAKERU

First impression: Oh I KNEW I was gonna love him the second I saw his face omg I did the bad fan thing where I had to pull up the wiki bc the Vrains episode I was watching at the time didn't answer a really niche question I had about something someone said and the "related pages" tab on Yusaku's character page had Takeru's face on it So I had to find him I speedran my Vrains watch to get to him and boy was I rewarded

Impression now If you asked me in 2021 who my favorite yugioh was, I'd tell you Takeru Homura in a heartbeat Literally was only dethroned as my favorite by Kaito recently Takeru would be the next character I deep dive and dissect if given the chance, I just think he's so cool, I love how well done he is, I think he's one of the best done characters in the franchise His deck is fun, his design is fun, I've cosplayed both Takeru AND Soulburner now, working on slick back look one day when I don't have cosplay deadlines I just... love him, he's one of my favorite voices to write through, I always find an excuse to drabble as Takeru, whether it's something I post or not, and I am always at home when it's with him

Favorite moment: ALMOST ALL OF THEM!!! BOTH OF THE DUELS WITH REV! HIS INITIAL ENTRANCE! HIS FLASHBACK SCENES! BEING CRINGEFAIL!!! AAHHHH!!!!

Idea for a story: Oh I've got a REALLY hefty 3+1 fic that's gonna tie in with recoil week that explores all of Takeru's relationships gjdkla Here is a very small bit from the first chapter:

The first time Homura Takeru thought he fell in love, he was a young boy intimidated by a pretty girl. He doesn’t remember many of the details of how he met Kiku. It was a portion of his memories that lived in what feels like a lifetime ago, before everything had suddenly slipped out of his young grip. He just knew that he was a scared boy overwhelmed by her kindness and spirit the moment they met while he was on a trip to visit his grandparents.  It was an instant connection. Kiku had pulled on his hand and pulled him into the light, smiled and laughed with him whereas the other kids at the time hadn’t. He’d almost call it foreshadowing. Having her in his life made the sudden change of up and moving out to the country after his parents’ deaths a little easier. Within a month of moving, they were almost inseparable. And the following years as well, no matter how hard it got.

So stay tuned for that!

Unpopular opinion: I'm so sorry but I'm about to be a hater But the fact that Takeru haters even exist is really fascinating to me since most of his other counterparts are rather beloved Like he's got more fans that haters for sure, but I've seen every single one who has a think piece say "Takeru's only there to show off the card game" as if Salamangreat wasn't released in the OCG until July while Takeru has been showing off the deck since May, but I digress Yusaku's entire arc was finished in season 1, he got all of his answers, protected Ai to the very end, and was ready to move on. Yusaku just being a fix-it man for an entire second season? Would be BORING. So they needed a second voice to duo-lead, a new one with new motivations who hasn't already been shown, but could be tied back in a meaningful way. And what characters were left we knew very little about? The Ignis. What was unveiled in Season 1 about the Ignis? They're tied to six children, and we've now seen 2 of them. Also it's? Yugioh? Do you expect them NOT to show off cards and real strategies so you go spend your real life money on product? Remember Yuri randomly using an Ancient Gear deck in Arc V when the structure was starting to come out? Or most of duelist of the week duelists from GX? Got some really fun things to look forward to! Probably the biggest ones will be PAX in October, and then in late November-December, we're going to Singapore, then cruising back! I'll be in Darwin on my birthday :D

21. What's something new about your place of residence (room, home, or general location) now vs the start of the year?

We finished the bathroom renovation (much needed, it hadn't been touched since the house was built nearly 40 years ago and was starting to leak) and I moved back upstairs, and we rearranged the living room.

Two very very different locations - PAX in Melbourne (like, with PAX specifically being the place, not Melbourne), and the absolutely gorgeous Huon Pine Walk in Tasmania a couple weeks ago (see 17!). Beautiful place <3

Safta will be able to meet nibling before she passes. She won't know a huge deal about what's going on, but she'll be able to meet her first great-grandchild nonetheless, and it'll be comforting.

Collecting my thoughts on Persona 5

Warning this gonna be a ramble/rant/a mess, whatever you wish to call it! I beat P5 a while ago (on June 9th) and I needed to stew on it. On one hand, it was super fun and I blitzed through a big chunk of it in two weeks in late December 2023. On the other hand, a couple arcs made me stop cold for a week due to how much things annoyed me. Came back months later to start and finish the 3rd semester in 3 days.

A part does wonder if I should've spaced out playing it more but I had the free time to keep going. I ended up with 120 hours of playtime when I completed it. I do wanna go back and replay it one day. There was so much I missed because I went in blind. The one guide I did have was how to unlock the 3rd semester (AND IT STILL GOT STUFF WRONG).

So here's my weird tier list thing read more for nonsense if you want below~

Okay, I'm sure my putting Morgana as my favorite will jar many people. I started the game assuming I'd hate him, ended with him just being a little guy. Honestly, I didn't expect him to be a party member. I thought he was a mascot guy who hangs out like in magical girl shows. Ended up adoring the little dude. He is a mouthy little kid at times sure. But he's excited to show everyone the ropes. Plus his puppy crush on Ann is adorable.

Futaba is another character I only saw memes about before playing. And this girl broke my heart. She did end up reminding me a lot of myself at that age (minus the kid genius, I'm a moron). From the goofy way of talking and her awkward mannerisms. Some of it hit a too-close home, especially with her being stuck at home all day. Plus the arc of everyone taking turns to help her out of shell was super sweet. Especially her just rambling her heart out about games to Joker. The amount times I do this to my older brother about whatever I'm into atm. I do wish we got ahold of her mom's research for her at some point.

Slight tangent from the tier list but p5 felt like a very weird time capsule to me. I'm very late to this party, but the year the game came out is the year it takes place. Which means I would've been the same age as Joker. The game does date itself several times and weird looking back on it.

Now Sumi and Akechi are just in separate tiers even though they should probably be in the top tier. I started the game not caring to much but grew to really adore them! I think a replay will make me pay attention to both of them more. because I noticed more stuff was off with Sumi very early (lack of blood first awakening, her school ID having a brown hair/a mole). It just bunch clues that don't get pay off till veryyyyy late in the game.

It's pretty apparent they crowbarred Sumi in the first part of the game. I think execution wise it could adjusted a bit to work better. I still think there is more to explore like her relationship with her sister and parents. Also would've killed to go to one of her meets/competitions. I wanna be her #1 cheerleader! Would love to cosplay her thief design, Violet, one day!

Speaking of her thief design sense so much of her character is emulating others and confirmed her violet design is based off Joker as her idea of "rebellion" I really wish she got a new design to further show her coming into her own. Unless it is confirmed somewhere she really was scrapped femc at one point. There's really little reason why her outfit has nods to jokers. At least change the color scheme to be more in line with Ella and her gymnast outfit. And her persona. being based on Cinderella is an odd choice for me. I feel the better choice to keep with the trickster theme is Odette/Odile. Last I wish I had few more scenes with Maruki post her 2nd awakening.

For Akechi... One of my old coworkers compared him to Dimitri from fe3h. I love Dimitri, he's a favorite character for me. But all I knew of Akechi was that he got shipped with the Joker a lot and he's "mean/tsudere". Other than that, nothing! I didn't know he was a murder going in. So to spite said coworker I kinda went in determined to dislike Akechi for poor Dimitri comparison (said co-worker kinda like bashing me for fe3h characters I liked and overall was not the most fun talk to about games I played.).

As a result, I didn't pay much attention to him at all in early support. Further into game, i noticed more Lupin the 3rd references so i kinda wondered if he was gonna be Inspector Zenigata (who is my favorite from The Little I've Seenof Lupin the 3rd.). But he kinda off put me off because I called him forcing the prince persona from when you met him. As the game went on I figured out he was black mask and just got more and more worried about the guy. It becomes pretty obvious by Futaba Palace he's gotten himself into something he not gonna easily get out of. It's pretty clear holding back what wants to say. Even when he joins I recall very long text messages about the "motivations" of the black mask killer. It's just him spiraling into an indirect makeshift confession of his crimes.

And the third semester where he little more honest in how he acts. He is not at all what I expected, his navigator lines are indeed hilarious to me (the delivery is similar to Hubert from fe3h they share eng voice actor) for the most part he gets the ball rolling and helps spearhead the 3rd-semester palace heist. He's very blunt but I wouldn't call him "tsundere" or "crazy" at all. He has trust issues for sure but The navigator lines seem to exception, as he comes off pretty level-headed outside of combat. He is very upset at the fact he got left off easy, he wants to face the consequences of his actions and works to make sure it happens. I really ended up adoring him sumi by the end of the game Though I still don't think Dimitri's comparison is apt. Besides the hair?

I have so much to say about akechi and sumi but I'll stop here!

This is more of an issue I have with the player/writing but you really can't reach out properly to any of the cast. Joker kinda feels like he's stuck as a rule of cool protag. So it seems a lot of the cast is talking at him. It's like the devs were a little torn on what direction to go with him. He's more like the smug scheming Lupin the 3rd vs gentlemen thief angle of the OG Arsene (and Miyazaki's Lupin 3rd run as well). So they kinda don't wanna make the player feel bad at any point if that makes sense. It's nice to see the original director did see this issue and fixed in his newest game metaphor (voice acting does wonders yall)

Even if you as the player get to point out stuff like where you need to go next. The game has to stop you until another character (generally Makoto) gives you the green light. The game seems to have a bad habit post Makoto joining, of having her and Futaba just info dump on the player which extenuates the issue. The only time they kinda dump an explanation I didn't see coming was how the whole interrogation room stunt worked. I'm honestly very surprised there wasn't more emotional fallout from said stunt. I know it's based on an actual Arsene Lupin story but one of the moments in the game post the reveal I was taken aback by.

I think my biggest issues with the game are the emotional tone and whiplash it can have from arc to arc. The support lines feel separate from the characters in the main story (even though they continue to lose ends from their initial arcs). I get there are a lot of characters to balance and some do end up fading in the background if they aren't stuck expositing the next plan at you. But it feels certain comedy moments really shouldn't have happened due to what occurred in the previous arc and in character support links.

There is also the issue of the game being very... aimed at the male audience. The first arc has the main antagonist a predatory adult sexually assaulting students. But you playing as a student can romance all the older adult women. Almost every female support you have, you can also romance. There are also several points in the game where you can pick a girl and go on a date or go with ryuji to hit on women who don't wanna be bothered. Even near the end of the game on Valentine's Day/Christmas the game hammers in how "sad or bad" it is if you choose to not romance anyone ( which I choose to do purpose). Even the way your support links with how the teacher starts to feel very invasive to her life outside of school. Ann at the start of Yusukes arc just makes me feel terrible for her.

I know I'm biased due to being a lady but it's just not cute nor funny to me guys just walk up and don't go away. I really would've been fine just sitting on the beach with Morgana or getting ice cream rather than getting forced into dates.

Well that's all for my word barf, if you read this I'm sorry. I'm not very eloquent as you can tell. Despite my complaints, i did enjoy the game i just think it has a very shakey execution on its themes for what ever plot currently demands in the moment.

Here we are little over a week after my initial question about your opinion on politics in your country, but we also have Georgia and South Korea.. Interesting outcome, but I anticipated it, at least when it comes to Romania - Russia still has its tentacles spread wide on many ex-communist countries, mine included.. the influence is so big, they cannot stop it effectively.. In many countries within the EU, we see this clash with modern democracy and a push for radicalism, and what's worse is that the number one target is younger generation through social media and an appeal to get their vote through "speaking their language" which might seem funny a bit but we saw it in the US elections, also in Germany earlier as well as France. A thing I do not hate that has become so modern the past decade and is the push for neo-liberalism. Many actors with odd backgrounds proclaim themselves as experts in geopolitics and brand different groups and parties to be defenders of Euro-Atlantic relations, a term coined and used now more than the word "democracy". Reality is much scarier and a wake-up call is needed in many countries' voting populace I liked your take.

I did not see the cancellation of the first round of elections tbh, when I was first told I thought it was a joke💀 It doesn’t seem like a bad decision I just think it should’ve been dealt with much earlier. I guess we’ll see next year again what will happen but I think the way a lot of people voted now was very concerning. I cannot give the Romanian people any benefit of the doubt because we’ve just had the revolution like 35 years ago and that is simply too recent for anyone to be in favor of any sort of authoritarian regime (granted many people might just be plain stupid, that may be mean of me but some of the takes I’ve seen lately were something else). Like people will tell you how bad communism was so often and you don’t even have to ask, you’ll just hear about it whether you want to or not lol.

I completely agree on the social media part. One of the candidates from this first round started posting memes on tik tok and I heard some guy at the office say he might vote for him next time because at least he’s funny (hello ??????), that’s completely insane and it’s not like a couple jokes will erase everything that was bad before.

A letter to the political parties of Canada concerning the genocide in Gaza

Social Media is something that has been vital to our society since it's inception. Many people my age will use it to unwind, to communicate with friends, to share funny memes and to organize against injustice. I use it frequently, and like many people, the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do at night is glance over at twitter while I counter-intuitively wait for sleep to come.

Ever since October 7th, my social media has been flooded with the death and destruction of Gaza and the West Bank.

Today I woke up to the news that it has been confirmed that when Israeli soldiers evacuated an intensive care unit, the babies the doctors were tending to, who they had been promised would be cared for, were left to die. They were found during the ceasefire decomposing in their hospital beds. This was one of the few censored videos I've seen. I have a six week old nephew, and when I saw a picture of a 17 day old baby who had been killed in an explosion today due to the end of the temporary cease fire, I decided it was time to contact you all about how disappointed I am in my government, a country that prides itself on its reputation for peace, to be one of the few who voted AGAINST a call for a cease fire weeks ago now. I wanted to send an email at the time, but to be honest, I was so angry and disgusted with everyone who represents me that I couldn't write anything that wasn't just pure vitriol.

Part of what stopped me was the absolute disillusion in the entire government. Canadians are not generally idiots, which may come as a shock to some of you. We know 90% of politician speech is just lip service to keep the status quo. I wasn't kidding myself thinking the liberal party actually cares about marginalized communities, or that they, or any other political party in this country, care about untold deaths over-seas. You must be very big-picture to continue to refuse to stand up for a community being paved over before the world's very eyes. But I'm not sure how any of you can sleep at night knowing that innocent people-- real men, women, and children-- are being slaughtered en-mass, and you have in some way enabled it by not speaking out. I'm honestly not sure, if you're either on Israel's government's side on this one, or indifferent to it, what you're doing in politics. Because it's certainly not to better anyone's lives. I assume it's money that stays any politician from speaking out against the horrors we are seeing come out of Gaza every day, with help from our weapons and our government's support, but I hope you know it isn't worth it. I cannot describe how low my opinion of every government party has sunk through this crisis. Normally I would say the NPD are exempt from my disappointment, but you called for one of your own to step down when they spoke out early against the genocide, so unfortunately it's you I'm most disappointed in of all.

I'm sorry to anyone who actually feels very strongly about what is happening in Gaza and is reading this letter, because I'm sure you're the only one who will actually take that disappointment to heart. And on top of that, you have the worst coworkers in the world. But know that if you're speaking out against this, if you are truly fighting and doing all you can to stop our government from helping to exterminate an entire people, I am not upset at you. I marvel at your ability to continue in the face of so much opposition. Truly I feel as though I'm losing my mind watching our prime minister stumble and refuse to say 'cease fire'. You were elected as a lesser evil, Justin, and you managed to flub even that. I can't imagine what our next election will look like, but for failing your promise of restructuring how our votes work, and as a party for your failure to look at the most black-and-white situation and refuse to call a genocide a genocide, know that whatever havoc is wrought if the cons win is on you as well. Canadians overwhelmingly want positive change, and instead we have a bunch of adults acting like children and hemming and hawing over whether killing and driving out an entire population from their own land is a genocide. Is bombing hospitals a war crime? Apparently none of you know. Maybe you should leave politics and go back to school.

All this is to say: call for a ceasefire. It's the RIGHT THING to do. I know politicians aren't (generally speaking) renowned for their ability to empathize, but give it a shot in this case, while there are still Palestinians left to save.

I have very little faith in all of you after this, truthfully, and I don't say that in anger or in hate. I am truly just indescribably disappointed in you, and the choices you've made as parties. Imagine all of you standing up and applauding a nazi, your country giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're all just sort've idiots, and then not speaking out to stop a genocide. Wow. I suppose we're the fools for electing you all, but when your options are clown1, clown2, clown3, and clown4, you can't really avoid getting a pie in the face.

My (24f) boyfriend (27m) just told me that he thought my tattoo made me look "desperate."

Okay so this is a weird one. Throwaway account, because my boyfriend knows my reddit username.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost a month now, and I just found out that he thought my tattoo was functional this whole time. For the record, the tattoo is a pair of eyes that I got on the back of my neck. They're smoky eyed, long lashes, and wink offset on a three second cycle. Normally they're hidden by my hair, so I can brush my hair to one side to reveal them. I thought they looked sexy and flirtatious. I've gotten compliments about them before.

Apparently, my boyfriend has thought all this time that I could see out the back of my neck. What's even weirder is that he apparently leaped to the assumption that I got the tattoo because I was paranoid about people stalking me, or something like that? I've tried to find out more, but I kind of laughed at him when he admitted this to me and now he says he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. He verbatim said he thought I looked "desperate", because he thought they were blinking one at a time, so one eye would always be open to keep watch???

I feel like I'm going crazy. Nothing like this has ever come up in our relationship before. He's always been very supportive of me, every time I tell him I'm going somewhere he asks if I want him to come along. Maybe almost to the point of being clingy, but frankly I appreciate that sort of attention. And now I find out that all this time he thought he was protecting me?? somehow??? from some vague unknown threat????

At this point I'm wondering if our whole relationship was based on false pretenses due to some ridiculous misunderstanding. I don't know, am I taking this too seriously? Should I just laugh it off? Help me, reddit. I have no idea how I should react to this.

I saw him checking me out at a party, and I thought he was hot, so when I walked by him I made sure to move my hair to the side to show off the eyes. He is not a stalker or a weirdo or anything so don't worry about that. If anything he was trying really hard not to seem pushy when we first met. I know that there are people who use body mods as a form of transhumanism, extra eyes and anti-surveillance sigils and everything, but even then it's such a leap to assume you were doing this out of fear and not because it's cool to have 360 degree vision.

It sounds like maybe he read a bunch of William Gibson and got into the whole mindset. Does he have tattoos of his own? Maybe that's why he made the assumption?

Like why would he think I need them to blink out of sync in order to have one eye open at all times?? They don't have tear ducts. They don't dry up. You could just tattoo on an unblinking eye. I actually know a few people irl with functional eye tattoos. They all say it's really disorienting at first but eventually your brain rewires itself to accommodate it? I don't know why you felt the need to humiliate your boyfriend like this. People who mod themselves with extra eyes statistically tend to be disproportionately concerned with countersurveillance/ sousveillance. It's hardly an outlandish idea to suggest that someone willing to tattoo eyes on themselves might be slightly paranoid about keeping watch.

Guys, I Think The Leaks Are Fakes Made By The Owl House Crew

yes yes i know, right now that might be a WILD ass claim to make but i want those who are reading this to hear me out and read this whole post, because I've been chatting with friends since these leaks happened and i think there’s reason to suspect we might be getting punked here.

And i say this fully accepting there is a chance i could be entirely wrong about this and they could be real, but I think there’s some reason to doubt the episode actually was leaked to the internet.

Now to get those who need it up to speed, the first of the three specials for toh s3 “Thanks to Them” is airing this Saturday on the 15th, it’s a big 45 minute episode that takes place on earth in Luz’s town of Gravesfield. There was a comic con panel about it a few days ago were some fans got to see some sneak peaks, it was all over the internet and everything.

But the day after, some images floated around, 6 of them mainly, claiming to be spoilers from this episode and everyone went WILD with anger, rightfully so, this huge ass episode got leaked to the internet and spoiled for everyone? Man what a way to ruin a week huh?

Well i thought the same for awhile too, but i’ve had some time to cool down and talk to others and guys....something isn’t right about this whole situation.

Below i’m gonna explain why this whole situation feels REALLY off and why I think there might be a chance that not only did the episode NOT leak, but the leaks were fabricated by the crew itself.

And just to be safe, i will do so without showing said leaks, nor will i tell you exactly what’s in them.

Those who saw them will understand, but for those lucky enough to avoid them, i’ll give you an idea of what about them makes me and others suspect something isn’t right.

Now i’ve had episode leaks before in fandoms, it’s nothing new, they can happen to any fanbase due to issues with scheduling, or mishandling, or episodes being put up online and some people get to it fast.

So the idea of this happening isn’t odd.

However, i raise you this, because i found this to be REALLY Strange.

How come it’s only these 6 images?

Remember when ST and EE were shown privately to the TOH discord by crew members as a treat before they aired? Remember how afterwards there was a ton of images about lumity blushing and amity’s parents?

We were told the ENTIRE EPISODE was not only LEAKED, but put ONLINE. 

And yet all i and anyone else have seen are these images and people claiming they’re real, and nothing else.

There were gifs, clips, dozens of frames from willow’s dad’s holding hop pop books to the “That’s rough buddy”. There was so much about these episodes the moment the internet found them.

So let me get this straight? Those episodes the moment the fandom gets them get dozens of gifs, clips, drives to watch them, screenshots, memes, and fanart.....meanwhile this HUGE 45 MINUTE EPISODE has nothing but these specific 6 images?

I’ve never seen anything besides these images floating around when it comes to the the claim the episode was put out, there are no clips, no audio, no gifs, no dialogue being mentioned, nothing.

Is that not strange? 

Don’t you guys think if the entire episode was leaked we’d see more then these specific images? Don’t you think we’d see MORE then these shots?

 Like this is a big episode, and there is nothing else worth spoiling? Nothing about the wittebanes? lumity? Huntlow? any other big reveals? You’d think if the episode was revealed those would be leaked too right? 

Isn’t it so odd that these are the only leaks out there? if there’s video, why doesn’t it seem to be posted anywhere? Heck, where is the video that shows off what’s happening in the leaks with the biggest spoilers?

it’s also strange how this got “Leaked” over a week before the episode comes out, because how in the heck would someone get access to the full episode THAT early? When episodes usually leak, if they aren’t shown privately, it’s either the day before or because of a scheduling error. 

So that also seems odd.

There’s also this to consider, the content of the images themselves.

I won’t go into detail obviously, but you know what i found so off-putting? That the images in question proved a specific theory, proved a few theories and predictions people were floating around the fanbase...theories that aren’t something that’s strongly supported by any current evidence or even liked by quite a few people.

The last images are so....out of nowhere too. They’re sequential enough that they could tell a story of what happened without context and some of them are DEFINTENLY SHOCKING.

But the first two, they have nothing to do with the context of those last 4, so why did they get leaked? they reveal nothing, they’re also things we get to see in the promos that just were released.

Except, if you consider they were “Leaked” to make these leaks seem more real.

Don’t you think it’s odd two of the leaks are things that ended up in the promo that showed up later that day? i mean, what are the CHANCES? 

But if you were on the crew, and you wanted the fans to buy into the leaks, you WOULD pair up the fakes with real ass images the fans would see later that day wouldn’t you?

It’s so oddly deliberate.

You would also make leaks that would support big theories and have shock value so people were bound to spread them more. Which is EXACTLY what these ones are.

And if you’re on the crew, you know what the characters are wearing, so even easier to make them look real, because no matter what clips are shown in any disney promos or commercials they will appear to line up with the leaks.

There’s also other off stuff, like how one image is VERY oddly cropped compared to the others, or some character inconsistencies, some even seemingly off model.

“But the 6 minutes in HD are a thing-”

yeah and if someone wanted to fool the fanbase into thinking these leaks were real they WOULD release the 6 minutes alongside it to claim the episode had to be out.

The thing is, the 6 minutes have already been leaked to the fanbase from the nycc panel to the entire fanbase the moment it ended, it’s not as if putting the hd version out there will spoil anything because everyone already basically saw it.

And again, if the episode is OUT, why is that the ONLY footage that appears to have been posted anywhere? The footage we the fans already know about and saw?

And i wanna send off the rest of the suspicious details about these leaks by talking about the crew.

The crew, has been DEAD SILENT about these leaks, they have not said a word about these specific ones, not even to warn fans about them or how upset they are or anything. 

So....

Which is not what they usually do, they have warned fans before, so why not warn us about these supposed BIG leaks about a big episode?

And ok, maybe they don’t wanna make a fuss about them, fair enough, but there’s something else.

Rebecca Rose, who works on this show, liked this tweet just recently.

Now for those who don’t know, Alex Hirsh (Voice of King and Hooty) is the creator of Gravity Falls, another Disney Cartoon. That cartoon is infamous for it’s mysteries and secrets, and Alex, actually made a fake leak about a major spoiler to troll the entire fanbase.

He made this tweet after it successfully tricked the fans.

Now not only does he work on this show too, but you wanna know where these “Leaks” started out? 4chan and reddit.

Same place his did.

What are the chances?

What are the chances a crew members likes this old tweet about his stunt NOW of all times? When the episode has supposedly been leaked?

Now would it suck to assume the entire fanbase got fooled into thinking the episode was leaked and all the posts made about shaming the leakers were completely for nothing?

Oh yeah.

For the crew to pull this stunt and make us all look like doofuses would be insane.

But i think there’s reason to find this whole situation off and i hope this post makes you all reconsider some details you might not of considered before. Maybe we were leaked, maybe this is all a huge coincidence.

But if you ask me.

This is all too fishy for my liking.
