There's a discussion happening about the rights and wrongs of Lineker referring to the Nazis in The Tweet. I do think it's more than fair to point out how fucked up it is that 'the Nazis' are so often brought up as an abstract 'Big Bad' with little to no sense of what actually made them so bad (the genocidal antisemitic, anti-roma, anti-lgbtq, all-round eugenicist white supremacism).
Yet, at the same time it is factually correct that the tory rhetoric surrounding immigrants and asylum seekers is grossly dehumanising and in this way reminiscent of the Nazi's antisemitic propaganda in the 1920s & 30s (even though the targets of that propaganda were citizens rather than would-be immigrants to Germany. Baddiel really needs to pull his fatuous head out of his arse...). And, in the spirit of the Holocaust Remembrance exhortation to 'never forget', it is important to point out when contemporary policies and rhetoric drift towards the kind that existed in Germany in the 1930s - precisely because it is so fucking dangerous
If you don't put the 'never forget' fully into practice, the Holocaust is grave danger of becoming frozen in aspic; divorced from the lived experiences of people today and future generations, as well those directly impacted at the time
That said... it is *also* true that UK (and US) immigration policy at the time was rabidly antisemitic. When German and Austrian Jews were trying seek asylum from the increasing hostility and terror, the UK was quick to say 'you ain't coming here'. The Daily Fail was (as ever) quick to side with Europe's fascists. Doors were actively closed on them by the British.
In the same spirit, pretty much every European colonial-settler state from the Americas to Australia had some kind of explicitly white supremacist immigration policy (eg: White Australia , and South American 'blanqueamiento' polices prohibiting non-European immigration to countries like Brazil and Argentina following the abolition of slavery).
The irony is that the same people criticising Lineker for invoking 1930s Germany in his tweet are by and large the same people who criticise anti-racist historians who seek to decolonise curricula and present a broader, more nuanced understanding of British history. They're the same ones that spend every other day pearl clutching about the so-called 'woke agenda' if someone so much as says 'the Transatlantic Slave Trade was fundamental to British industrialisation as it provided both the raw materials and finances necessary to power it'
If the majority of the British population had a better understanding of British history - its long history of antisemitism, and its pivotal role in creating the antisemitic, white supremacist, eugenicist, imperialist values that informed the Hitler's worldview - they would realise that it's not even necessary to invoke 'the Nazis' when discussing a Big Bad. The call has always been coming from inside the house
The UK was (and is - alongside its children-in-imperialism, the USA, Canada & Australia) a Big Bad for millions around the globe for centuries. From the Transatlantic Slave Trade, to the Opium Wars, Irish Famine and Bengal Famine, Millions have died or been displaced, languages and cultures all but annihilated, people dehumanised, economies battered all in the name of the European white-supremacist capitalist hegemony that is distinctly anglocentric
Sure, there have been many Big Bads throughout history, and the UK's own spectacular track record doesn't absolve any of them. But it's about time that people were able to refer to British policies and colonial activities. I mean, we don't have to look back far given that the Windrush scandal is still in full effect; people who should not have been deported are *currently* dying destitute because of this country's racist immigration policies
The UK is indeed *not* innocent, and, as Sivanandan said; 'we are here because you were there'

Dismas for the bingo? Also I keep seeing the 'fandom is wrong about them' the filled with no further explanation, if you fill it could you elaborate? Thanks!
ding-ding-ding we have double bingo!
who is surprised? certainly not me
Tumblr media
as for the "everyone else is wrong about them" elaboration...
my problem mostly lies with how fandom loves to absolve characters of their shittiness - and now canon does too.
like if we look at DD1, canonically, Dismas is not a good man. maybe kind in his own right, maybe loyal, maybe friendly in his own way, i'm not denying any of it. but he did shit. he killed people. he robbed, mugged, most likely caused road accidents (considering how highway robberies were made). very few people write/draw/talk about him as a man who has serious problems, is probably an alcoholic, a tobacco addict, and considering times, proooooobaby on some dubious opioid/alcohol/only Light and Para knows (probably more Para than Light) what else mix which was considered medicine at the time - that is, if he can be bothered or can afford it. he has to be at least somewhat shady.
in my opinion, he has to scheme, lie his ass off, double cross people - it's what kept him alive for so long, after all. sure he can tell noble lies, but it doesn't mean he's any more honest. sure he knows his way around people, but look at his barks, he surely is a braggart. he sees his skills as superior (as anyone in Hamlet does, really, but that's beside the point). he is a conman, a shitbag, a cheater - and yet in most cases, I see him portrayed much like a cat: a bit bumbling, a bit of a jerk, sometimes moody but in the end, harmless. and this isn't what he is, imo. he's a thug. a thug who writes poetry in his free time, sure, but a thug nonetheless.
it's honestly my problem with DD2 mostly. characters there are washed-out toothless poor little meow meows. and it saddens me, since i see them as horrible people who try to make the most out of their current situation - it doesn't make them any less of the shitbags for it. like, i have no doubt that Dismas would suicide-rush a boss to save a friend (much like that Darius highwayman who met his end in encounter with Shambler) - but it doesn't mean he won't sacrifice a seeker he doesn't care for to assure his or his friend's survival or won't mug some sorry bloke in the town if he wouldn't have enough for a bottle. fandom, unfortunately, is usually pretty bad at seeing the moral greyness of characters and sticking to it. they either become the bastards or the infallible "precious babies". and since Dismas is widely popular, he bears the brunt of it.
we know he was in prison but it is barely explored (we don't talk about DD2's portrayal of him there in this blog, i need to be much more inebriated to talk about Buffmas). he is writing poems, but it's rarely referenced. he used to be a candlemaker, used to have a lover, maybe was in Vvulf's brigand, and knows marine terminology, so maybe he was on a ship or was sold as a galley slave from prison - there's so much going on in his backstory that seeing RH dumbing it down to "desperate meow meow who had literally no other viable options was tricked by a bad gang to assault a clown car" and even the "moral sin" which is pushed heavily as the reason he came to Hamlet in the first place was washed off him; in DD1, he shot the carriage deliberately: he heard a noise, and fresh out of a fight, his reflexes snapped into pulling the trigger. but the big emphasis of the scene in the comic was that it was after the fight was completely and utterly over. that was the tragedy - the same quick reflexes that let him live to his age, that he always, always starts the run with, screwed him over into murdering a defenceless woman and a child. however, in DD2, he's robbed even out of that, as they died, as Narrator puts it, "in erratic gunfire", cleansing him of deliberately pulling the trigger and having full responsibility of it when there was no need for it.
i can go on and on but... those are the biggest gripes.

The timeless wisdom of Vedic rituals, rooted in ancient scriptures and traditions, offers a pathway to transcendence and blessings. Amidst the sacred aura of the banks of Maa Ganga, these rituals unfold, infusing each moment with divine grace and auspiciousness.
The Essence of Vedic Rituals:
Vedic rituals are not merely ceremonies; they are sacred journeys that connect the individual soul with the cosmic consciousness. These rituals, meticulously performed by learned Vedic Brahmins, carry the resonance of centuries-old wisdom and devotion. Why Choose Vedic Rituals?

They offer a sanctuary for the soul, a haven where inner peace blossoms, and blessings abound. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or any other special occasion, embracing Vedic rituals bestows not just momentary joy, but a profound sense of contentment and spiritual elevation.
The Sacred Offerings:

The ritual of Shiv Abhishek, performed with utmost devotion, removes obstacles and fulfills aspirations. Live-streamed from the banks of Maa Ganga, it embodies the essence of divine grace.
Online Yagya: Drawing from the ancient wisdom of the Vedas, Yagya invokes the blessings of celestial forces. Each sacred offering, meticulously prepared and performed by Vedic Brahmins, paves the way for fulfillment and success. With purity of intent and devotion, hurdles dissipate, and aspirations manifest.
Annadanam: In the act of selfless giving, lies the essence of true abundance. Through Annadanam, the act of feeding the hungry, one not only nourishes the body but also the soul. Brahmins, saints, and seekers partake in the auspicious feast, bestowing blessings upon the giver.
Gaugrass and Online Godaan: Revering the sacred presence of Gaumata, the divine mother of 33 crore deities, Gaugrass and Godaan symbolize the highest form of devotion. With each offering, sins are absolved, and blessings flow abundantly. Through these rituals, one becomes a conduit of divine grace, fostering harmony and purity.
Conclusion:
In the sanctified realm of Vedic rituals, amidst the gentle flow of Maa Ganga’s waters, seekers find solace, seekers find solace, and blessings cascade abundantly. Each ritual, performed with unwavering devotion and adherence to ancient scriptures, opens the gateway to transcendence. Embrace the timeless wisdom of Vedic traditions, and embark on a journey of spiritual fulfillment and eternal bliss.

Debunking Misconceptions: Can Devotion Erase Sins?"
Tumblr media
In the realm of spiritual discourse, the question of whether devotion can alleviate one's sins sparks lively debates. Aniruddhacharya Ji asserts that sins cannot be diminished solely through devotion, contending that individuals must endure the consequences of their actions. On the contrary, @SaintRampalJiM provides a compelling counterargument rooted in scriptural evidence, asserting that God has the power to absolve sins.
Aniruddhacharya Ji's perspective raises a critical inquiry: Can sincere devotion truly mitigate the repercussions of our transgressions, or are we fated to bear the burden of our sins? The intersection of theology and morality becomes a focal point, prompting us to delve deeper into the intricacies of spiritual philosophy.
@SaintRampalJiM's teachings, drawing from sacred scriptures, propose a more optimistic outlook. According to these teachings, the divine has the ability to lift the weight of sins from sincere devotees. This viewpoint challenges the notion that individuals are condemned to suffer the consequences of their actions indefinitely.
To navigate this discourse, it's essential to explore the diverse interpretations within Hinduism. The concept of karma, intertwined with the consequences of one's actions, plays a pivotal role. Aniruddhacharya Ji's stance aligns with the traditional understanding of karma, emphasizing the inexorable link between actions and their repercussions. However, @SaintRampalJiM introduces a nuanced perspective, emphasizing the transformative power of devotion and divine intervention.
The ancient scriptures, often cited in such discussions, offer layers of interpretation. It becomes imperative to scrutinize these texts to discern the nuances that contribute to the varying viewpoints. As seekers of truth, we must consider the context, linguistic nuances, and historical backdrop in which these scriptures were written to grasp their intended meaning accurately.
In conclusion, the debate between Aniruddhacharya Ji and @SaintRampalJiM unveils the rich tapestry of theological discussions within Hinduism. As individuals navigating the spiritual path, it becomes our responsibility to engage in thoughtful inquiry, seeking a harmonious synthesis of diverse perspectives. Ultimately, the pursuit of spiritual understanding requires an open mind, a discerning heart, and a commitment to unraveling the profound mysteries that shape our spiritual journey.

Rameshwaram
Rameshwaram's historical and religious importance stretches back through the annals of time. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed to be the very spot where Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, built a bridge known as "Rama Setu" (Rama's Bridge) to reach Lanka, in pursuit of rescuing his beloved wife, Sita, from the demon king Ravana. This epic tale is chronicled in the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana, adding to the sanctity of this place.
The centerpiece of Rameshwaram's spiritual significance is the iconic  Ramanathaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which stands as a testament to Dravidian architecture and craftsmanship. This temple is one of the Char Dhams (four abodes) of Hindu pilgrimage, and it holds immense reverence among devotees. The temple's corridors, embellished with intricate, ornate pillars, lead to the sanctum sanctorum where the presiding deity, Lord Ramanathaswamy, is worshipped. Pilgrims visit to seek blessings, perform rituals, and immerse themselves in the divine aura. Apart from the Ramanathaswamy Temple, Rameshwaram boasts a multitude of sacred water bodies known as "teerthams" or holy baths. The Agnitheertham is particularly revered, and it is believed that a dip in its waters absolves one of sins. Each of these teerthams carries a mythological tale, adding layers of spirituality to the pilgrimage experience. Rameshwaram's rich tapestry of legends, rituals, and religious practices continues to attract devotees and spiritual seekers from across India and beyond. The town's atmosphere resonates with the chanting of hymns, the ringing of temple bells, and the fragrance of incense, creating an otherworldly aura that transports visitors to a realm where divinity and devotion reign supreme. It is this historical and religious significance that makes Rameshwaram an enduring and enchanting destination for those in search of a deeper connection with their faith and spirituality.

The Legend of Parashurama Kund: Where Myth and Mystique Meet
India, a land steeped in mythology and mysticism, is dotted with places that hold stories of gods and heroes, their deeds etched in stone and whispered through generations. One such place is the sacred site of Parashurama Kund, a serene and mystical pool located in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. In this article, we will delve into the legend of Parashurama Kund and explore the spiritual significance that draws pilgrims and travelers alike to this enchanting destination. Explore the beauty of Arunachal Pradesh with our taxi service in Tawang.
The Myth of Parashurama
The legend of Parashurama Kund is intertwined with the mythical sage Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, Parashurama was a warrior sage renowned for his valor and devotion to his guru, Lord Shiva. He was also known as the "Axe-Wielding Brahmin" for his mastery of the axe as a weapon.
The legend goes that Parashurama sought redemption for his sins by performing rigorous penance. During his meditation, he dug a kund (a sacred pool) with the tip of his mighty axe. It is said that the water from the Lohit River, which flows nearby, filled this pool, cleansing Parashurama of his sins.
The Sacred Parashurama Kund
Parashurama Kund, also known as Brahmatirtha, is a natural pool nestled amidst the lush green forests of Arunachal Pradesh. It is located at the confluence of the Lohit River and the Dibang River, in the district of Lohit. The waters of the kund are believed to possess the power to purify the soul, a testament to the legend of Parashurama's redemption.
The kund is characterized by its emerald green waters, surrounded by dense foliage and the distant echoes of chirping birds and rustling leaves. The tranquil ambiance and pristine beauty make it an ideal spot for meditation and self-reflection.
The Spiritual Significance
Parashurama Kund is considered one of the holiest places for Hindu pilgrims, who flock here during the Parashurama Mela, an annual fair held in January. Devotees take a ritual bath in the kund, seeking spiritual cleansing and redemption, just as Parashurama did in the mythological narrative. The act of taking a dip in these sacred waters is believed to absolve one of their sins and lead them toward moksha, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
The temple complex surrounding the kund is dedicated to Lord Parashurama and is adorned with intricate carvings, sculptures, and inscriptions that narrate the story of the sage. Pilgrims also visit the nearby Parashurama Cave, believed to be the place where the sage performed his penance.
Beyond the Spiritual: Natural Beauty
While Parashurama Kund holds immense spiritual significance, it is also a destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The surrounding region is a paradise for trekkers, offering trails that wind through dense forests, picturesque valleys, and breathtaking vistas of the Eastern Himalayas. The region's rich biodiversity, including diverse flora and fauna, adds to its allure.
Conclusion
Parashurama Kund is more than just a physical place; it is a bridge between mythology and reality, where the legend of Parashurama's penance lives on. It is a place of spiritual significance and natural beauty, a testament to the deep-rooted connection between India's ancient myths and its breathtaking landscapes.
Visiting Parashurama Kund is not just a journey of the body; it is a journey of the soul, where one can experience the profound sense of peace and purification that has drawn seekers and pilgrims for centuries. Whether you seek spiritual solace or simply wish to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, Parashurama Kund is a destination that promises an unforgettable experience.

The Viciousness of German Structural Racism
We are globally noted for our humanity. That shouldn't absolve us from our responsibility to look inward when outside events prompt us to. #USAProtest #GeorgeFloyd #Rassismus

red: the color of...grantaire?
Figured I might do another meta post like the one I did for Marius to address the myths and misconceptions surrounding certain characters, so it's Grantaire's turn!
I'm sure we all know Grantaire quite well...a sensitive starving artist, with his Apollo as his muse, and a cynic who pragmatically points out the flaws in Enjolras's idealism, which they quarrel over.
Let's unpack that!
Grantaire is most likely middle class if not wealthy, he is certainly not poor. We don't know what he's studying (if he's studying at all) but he is nevertheless a quintessentially Parisian bourgeoise "student", much like Bahorel. "A rover, a gambler, a libertine..." As the foil of "severe in his enjoyments" Enjolras, Grantaire is a pleasure-seeker, indulging in the excesses that Enjolras disdains.
Again, though we don't know what Grantaire is studying (and I suspect he's just Bahorel-ing it) he's clearly an educated man, judging by the references he throws into his speeches, and he mentions that he once was a student of Gros.
So is he really an artist? He might have been an apprentice at some point, but it's clear he was not particularly enthused by it. After all, discipline is something that Grantaire…lacks. And because it's Grantaire, you can't completely discount the idea that he made it up just for a pun (though I do find that unlikely.) But it's a triple (quadruple?) play--it's important not to take this quote too far out of context because he's actually saying several things here.
It is a shame that I am ignorant, otherwise I would quote to you a mass of things; but I know nothing. For instance, I have always been witty; when I was a pupil of Gros, instead of daubing wretched little pictures, I passed my time in pilfering apples; rapin is the masculine of rapine. So much for myself; as for the rest of you, you are worth no more than I am. I scoff at your perfections, excellencies, and qualities. Every good quality tends towards a defect [...] there are just as many vices in virtue as there are holes in Diogenes’ cloak.
Gros was a well-known neoclassical painter of the time, and I believe Hugo's inclusion of him here is a jab at the neoclassicists, as Grantaire doesn't seem to care for him.
There's a pun! "Rapin"--term for a painter's assistant--is the masculine of "rapine"--to steal.
So he likely means he stole the apples intended to be painted for a still life, which fits his careless attitude... but he's ironically putting himself down for it too, and at the same time
putting his companions down, saying they're no better than him even if they do have more "good" qualities because each good quality has a corresponding downside, so what's the point, really?
You can see that even in this small sample of his speech that Grantaire often has layers upon layers of meaning in what he says. He's a smart guy! But that means you can't always take what he says at face value, as Hugo says, he's constantly "reasoning and contradicting" himself. So let me invite you further down into what I think his real meaning is here (though now firmly into the depths of my own conjecture, so others may have different interpretations.)
I would speculate that "the rest of you" who he professes to mock refers mostly to a specific person, you can probably guess who. After all, Enjolras is surely the paragon of virtue among them, and you could certainly argue that his good qualities edge on being flaws. I think Grantaire is right about that, and it's a sort of theme we see pop up again and again--the Bishop's generosity does hurt the women he lives with, Valjean's self-sacrifice hurts Cosette, and Javert is someone who's tipped all the way over to his virtues being vices.
But like, man, come on. Seriously. "I scoff at your perfections, excellencies, and qualities." Dude. We all know that you're obsessed with this man.
And you might notice that this is just a whole lot of Grantaire talking and talking over people, never letting anyone else get a word in. It's not a debate, Grantaire never actually debates anyone, let alone Enjolras. The idea of Grantaire debating Enjolras and making him see the flaws in his idealistic revolution is wholly a fandom invention.
The closest we get, really, is Grantaire trying to convince Enjolras to send him to the Barriere du Maine...and Grantaire doesn't come out of that looking so good.
“Do you know anything of those comrades who meet at Richefeu’s?”
“Not much. We only address each other as tu.”
“What will you say to them?”
“I will speak to them of Robespierre, pardi! Of Danton. Of principles.”
“You?”
“I. But I don’t receive justice. When I set about it, I am terrible. I have read Prudhomme, I know the Social Contract, I know my constitution of the year Two by heart. ‘The liberty of one citizen ends where the liberty of another citizen begins.’ Do you take me for a brute? I have an old bank-bill of the Republic in my drawer. The Rights of Man, the sovereignty of the people, sapristi! I am even a bit of a Hébertist. I can talk the most superb twaddle for six hours by the clock, watch in hand.”
I won't bother going too in-depth here since you're probably familiar with all this--Grantaire talks a big game and then fails to follow through. And we see one of two red waistcoats mentioned, neither of which are worn by Enjolras.
Grantaire lived in furnished lodgings very near the Café Musain. He went out, and five minutes later he returned. He had gone home to put on a Robespierre waistcoat.
“Red,” said he as he entered, and he looked intently at Enjolras. Then, with the palm of his energetic hand, he laid the two scarlet points of the waistcoat across his breast.
So yeah, it's actually Grantaire who wears red, at least canonically! I know their popular red/green color scheme comes from the musical, but it might be fun to reverse it sometimes...I think Enjolras would look great in a nice emerald green, and he'd be more likely to wear that, actually.
Why? A red waistcoat like would be a very obvious, in-your-face political statement--perfect for Bahorel, the other red waistcoat wearer, but Enjolras is actually a lot more reserved and less reckless than fandom sometimes makes him out to be. Wearing something that blatant isn't really his style.
The real question is, why does Grantaire, of all people, own one? Why has he read Prudhomme and the Social Contract and the Rights of Man?
Grantaire is not a super sympathetic character. He's a man of means, talent, intelligence...and he wastes those gifts and privileges on doing nothing, he has no aims in life, he does not aspire to do better or make the world better. He may be Enjolras's foil but I would also contrast him with Feuilly, who has spent his life dedicated to improving himself and the world despite the challenges he's faced. He's obnoxious to women, denigrates his friends for their beliefs, and is generally useless. He's given the opportunity to change and he squanders it. He's not so much cynical (because that's a belief) as he is indifferent, which is arguably worse. His indifference can certainly be read as symbolic within the group, their belief versus the apathy of the world.
But, layers upon layers...Grantaire does have a good heart hiding underneath all that. What I've been getting at all along here is that he does care; he may say he doesn't, he may even believe he doesn't, but he does, clearly, care. He says he hates mankind; he loves people. He says he scoffs at his companions; he admires them. He declares himself indifferent, yet he can't help but talk about the sufferings of the world.
Which isn't to say that simply caring absolves him of anything. Up to this point, he's still just been a useless layabout. What does absolve him (narratively speaking) is the first time, possibly the first time in his life, that he chooses to act. He chooses to take a stand. And this transfigures him, as Hugo says.
Grantaire had risen. The immense gleam of the whole combat which he had missed, and in which he had had no part, appeared in the brilliant glance of the transfigured drunken man.
At the last moment, he chooses to believe, and Enjolras finally accepts him.
One last thing: Grantaire never calls Enjolras "Apollo". Furthermore, he's actually the only one who couldn't have called him "Apollo". The only line where this nickname is mentioned is as follows:
It was of him, possibly, that a witness spoke afterwards, before the council of war: “There was an insurgent whom I heard called Apollo.”
Who could have called him that? Not Grantaire, he was fast asleep during the whole thing. So I choose to believe it was Prouvaire…he would.

“You said what to Chancellor Roderick?” The ambassador looks faint. Next to her, the Left Hand smirks.
Wyeth folds his arms. “What does it matter? You think we’re in danger of actually being rid of him?” They could only hope.
“It isn’t just about what he’ll tell others, it’s a matter of keeping the peace.”
“He’s the one stirring things up,” Cullen mutters.
Josephine takes a steadying breath. “Allowing yourselves to be provoked by him is only giving him what he wants. He wishes to undermine the Inquisition’s current leadership, and there is no better way than showing the masses that it is unstable. Which you are doing by getting into public disputes with him.”
“All due respect, Ambassador,” Wyeth says, “but that is the least of my priorities. I haven’t the patience to listen to Chanters shift blame on everyone else while absolving themselves of responsibility. Especially with the current situation.”
She looks sympathetic. “I understand where you’re coming from—”
“No, you don’t.”
She blinks at his sharp tone, and Leliana stiffens next to her. Cassandra looks him over with narrowed eyes.
Wyeth rubs a hand over his face. “Let’s just—discuss our next move. If we’re talking about leadership.”
It gets them moving to the War Room, even with the air still thick with tension.
“Where is Master Gwythren?” the ambassador asks.
Keeping their distance from the hostilities, no doubt. But that’s not something these people need to know. “They’re around,” Wyeth says, because he knows that’s true. “Gwyth’s got a knack for being where they need to even if you don’t see them.”
“Still, I’d like their input.”
Wyeth picks his words carefully. “Gwythren trusts me to speak in their place when necessary.”
She frowns but accedes.
“I still don’t see how this will solve our problems,” Cullen says. “It just lends credence to the idea that we should care what the Chantry says.”
“Unfortunately, that is the case,” Cassandra says. “They aren’t entirely powerless and have resources we could use.”
Josephine nods. “Even if the Chantry doesn’t help us, it still has significant influence. Their disapproval affects how other powers view us. But Mother Giselle is right: at the moment, the Chantry’s primary strength is that they are united in opinion. If we can confront them, disrupt that, it will weaken their stance and prove the Inquisition capable of standing on its own.”
Cullen grumbles but says nothing more.
Leliana steps forward. “There is still the not insignificant risk to the Herald’s safety.”
Wyeth’s heart clenches. At least he isn’t alone in his concern.
“The Herald won’t be going alone,” the Seeker argues. “And do we really have a choice? We have no leverage to approach anyone for help with the Breach.”
“I agree that this is a necessary course of action,” Wyeth says, heading off any further argument. The ambassador looks smug. “Have you contacted those Giselle recommended?”
Leliana sighs. “We have, although we’ve yet to receive a response.”
“We ought to start making arrangements for the trip so we can leave the moment we get word, provided they agree. If not” —he shrugs— “we can always go throw eggs at the Grand Cathedral’s door.”
Cassandra makes an affronted noise, but Josephine’s quill is quick at work.
“I am confident they will agree,” Leliana says. “Although whether it will be for a meeting or to rid themselves of the problem remains to be seen.”
Wyeth grits his teeth. As Josephine and Cullen begin discussing division of duties, Wyeth says, “Does Gwythren need to go?”
That gets their attention. Hesitant, Josephine says, “It is the Herald they are expecting to speak to.”
Wyeth snorts. “Only if they aren’t aware of Gwythren’s Tranquility.”
An uncomfortable silence descends.
“Let’s be honest,” he continues, “the Chantry isn’t going to consider anything Gwythren has to say the moment they lay eyes on them. Gwythren is a Tranquil elf—about the two worst things you can be in the eyes of the Chantry. And then there’s the accusations of terrorism and murder. Considering the Chantry’s history, you really think putting Gwythren in front of them will go well?”
Cassandra and Cullen shift awkwardly on their feet. The Nightingale is silent, her unnerving, scrutinizing gaze fixed on Wyeth’s face.
Slowly, the ambassador says, “You said Master Gwythren trusts you to speak for them. Are you doing so now?”
“No,” Wyeth admits, unable to hold her eye. “But I do not think Gwythren would disagree with me.”
“About what you have said?” Leliana asks evenly. “Or about them not attending the meeting?”
Shit. Wyeth knows it isn’t fair to make this argument without Gwythren here to defend themself, but he can’t shake the fear that’s settled like frost in his chest. “I will… speak with Gwythren,” he finally says. “Now, if we’re done.”
The ambassador nods and follows him out.
Gwythren is perched on the crates right outside the War Room; behind him, Josephine makes a startled noise. Wyeth steps in front of Gwythren and glares at Cassandra and Cullen until they pass. Leliana lingers beside Josephine, smirking at him.
‘You don’t want me to go,” Gwythren says, as close to accusing as they ever get.
“I think it’s dangerous for you to go,” Wyeth corrects.
Gwythren runs their fingers over the straps of their sheaths.
“This isn’t like everything else we’ve dealt with.” Wyeth struggles to put words to his fear. “Val Royeaux is the heart of the Chantry. You know better than to trust them.”
Gwythren’s head cocks. Their left hand flexes, a green shimmer flickering over their glove before vanishing. “There’s no point if I don’t go.”
They’re right. Wyeth knows Gwythren would say his fear, while understandable, is not helpful; it’s hindering his rationale. Wyeth could order them to stay, and Gwythren would probably listen, but—Wyeth doesn’t want to do that.
He sighs, running a hand through his hair. “I know better than to try to win an argument against you. Swear, if I weren’t already gray…”
The words ease the slight tension in Gwythren’s shoulders. They don’t like to disagree with Wyeth, even if they’ve gotten more confident in doing so. Guilt stings Wyeth’s conscious for pressing the issue.
“We have not yet heard from the clerics, but you should be prepared to leave the moment we do,” Leliana says.
Gwythren nods, slips from their perch. Wyeth watches them leave the Chantry. The ambassador steps into her office, but the Nightingale remains.
“We will take precautions,” she says quietly.
Wyeth doesn’t look at her. “Sure.”
Leliana has been reasonable, but she’s still the Left Hand. There’s no point trying to explain to her that Wyeth trusts in the Inquisition’s “precautions” only slightly more than the Chantry’s compassion.

MORE Gregory Headcanons because I´m clearly in too deep lol:
Gregory develops the habit of being a bit of a thrill-seeker due to his past and the indomitable resolve and unshakeable spirit he builds. He is resolute in his goals, and due to the multiple dangerous circumstances he is put through, he doesn´t really grow desensitized to them- rather, his newfound courage and fearlessness is somewhat contradictory. He is still scared of everything and still retains his persecution complex, but eventually he learns to ¨love¨ the sensation, in a twisted way. Because he is willing to sacrifice anything to get to his goals and protect and nurture his dream of recreating his family and his past life, he eventually relishes in the feeling of adrenaline and superiority, of power over those that try to hurt him- and eventually, he smiles and giggles a bit to himself in a bit of an insane manner when he´s hiding and running from Vanny. Gregory planned originally to find a home after finding his family so he could throw the biggest family reunion bash party full of food and music and fun, so he could fulfill their happiness on top of his (excuse me while I go ugly cry). When in more unhinged or negative moods than usual, or in dire situations, Gregory can resort to antagonistic methods of getting by or even proposing brutal solutions to situations that can be cold, ruthless, or even downright villainous and psychotic. Even Vanny and Glitchtrap are quite surprised by how dismissive and cruel Gregory is towards the animatronics or any source of hostility- something that Freddy mitigates and eventually has Gregory considerably soften. ((REMINDER: GREGORY IS NOT THE VILLAIN, NOR AM I IMPLYING HE IS IN MY AU. IT´S JUST THAT HE CAN LEAN TOWARDS DARK TENDENCIES DUE TO HIS TRAUMA AND NEEDS HELP TO MAINTAIN HIS HUMANITY DUE TO HIS NEW NATURE AND SKEWED JUDGEMENT. It´s almost as if he´s *gasp* A MORALLY GREY CHARACTER! OH MY GOSH, WHO COULD´VE THOUGHT!)) Gregory, in tandem with his unbreakable and stubborn willpower, is also characterized by ironically strong idealism. His terrifying levels of hyperintelligence, impressive critical thinking and rapidly-developing superhuman abilities all undergo growth due to both his indomitable spirit, as well as his strong sense of hope and idealism- that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, that love will conquer all, and that his devotion and loyalty to his family and his goals are what absolves him of any atrocity he may commit along his path. This also reawakens something in him- geniune care for those he sees as family and those he cares about, trusts and loves, such as when he provides comfort for Freddy about Bonnie and allows him to grieve, lies to him out of genuine fear of losing one he considers family, reciprocates and even actively seeks out physical affection and love from him, and ultimately decides to stay for his sake- his beloved older brother’s sake. His family, friends and home are his happiness to him- his entire world. His character arc is centered around finding inner peace, and a new happiness with his now-reunified family, and a home within himself instead of chasing ghosts of the past.

Elaborate on the 4 kings of the hour please!
No prob!
(here's the ref)
Tumblr media
This AU (well this is mostly canon-verse except for the addition of the Crowns) posits that when the Realm of Darkness and the Seven Lights clash, instability is built up between them, and the Kings are meant to keep balance between them. Xehanort's Seekers unintentionally punched holes in the barrier between worlds during the Keyblade War, and only the Crowns are capable of fixing that.
Each one of the Crowns represent a different time of day: the Midday Crown (the white crown), the Midnight Crown (the golden crown), the Crown of Dusk (the crimson crown), and the Crown of Dawn (the violet crown). None of them are pure light or darkness and each have a unique power and relationship with the balance of light and darkness.
They are incredibly powerful tools, but not just anyone can use them. No one who is pure light or darkness can use one (no Princesses or Darklings, ect.), their wielder must be a Keybearer, and they must be judged to have a strong enough will. Unlike keyblades (which simply disappear), the Crowns will flat out kill those who attempt to use them without being judged worthy. Since they're so dangerous and difficult to understand, they were mostly hidden away, and knowledge about them faded into history. The only Crown that the Guardians of Light actually know about and the location of is the Midday Crown, which is passed down by the Kings of Disney castle from generation to generation. This is unambiguously Mickey's crown; he's the first among the Guardians to take the risk and don one.
Setting the Crowns apart from each other...
The Midday (White) Crown: This crown must be held by a guardian of Light; it illuminates the world around it and grows stronger in places of the greatest Light, but the shadows that remain become more apparent (in exchange for power, the King wearing it is beset by paranoia and worry of all threats). Located in Disney Castle.
The Midnight (Gold) Crown: This crown must be held by the bravest; it shines brightest in the darkest worlds, and its wielder must be a light of hope when despair abounds (in exchange for power, the King wearing it will suffer, to be history's underdog). Located somewhere in the Realm of Darkness.
The Dusk (Red) Crown: This crown must be held by a seeker of truth and independence; its power grows in response to a desire for knowledge and growth, even at the expense of comfort (in exchange for power, the King wearing it must toss away a peaceful life). Location unknown.
The Dawn (Violet) Crown: This crown must be held by a sinner absolved; it bestows the greatest power when sin and temptations are rejected, even those the wielder desires most (in exchange for power, the King wearing it must become selfless for justice). Located in the Realm of Dreams.
(additional note: Riku assumes the Midnight Crown is for him. He is wrong.)
