The Nothing Girl (Frogmorton Farm, Book 1) 10/1/23
The Nothing Girl is book one in the Frogmorton Farm series, about a girl learning to find her voice. This series by Jodi Taylor is different from the Time Police and Chronicles of St Mary's and manages to have such a sweet and caring vibe whilst also invoking powerful emotions regarding certain characters.
This is a book series I truly wish I could read for the first time again and am crossing my fingers for another book to join the series.

rewatching An Unexpected Journey and caught Bilbo saying he got "all the way to frogmorton once" on one of his walks
if my math is right, the distance between frogmorton and hobbiton is at minimum 30km. Bilbo walked at least 30km from his house in (presumably) one day or maybe even less. It seems like it's been played off as a joke in the movie to betray a sense of naivity (as if Bilbo thinks a walk in the Shire is a formidable distance and he'll be fine walking the entire way to Erebor without a pony) but 30km in one day is really impressive, especially for someone with such short legs
it's probably more than likely that this is just a side effect of PJ ignoring the books and making the distances between places wildly inaccurate, but I'd like to think Bilbo is just the power walking champion of the Shire

Of "Gone Off" Hobbits
It was Isengar, the youngest of Old Took's, that visits Bilbo in Bag End a mere 4 days later after news of the boy's return (in the middle of an auction of his sister family’s home belongings!!) spread. Mad Baggins they called him, oh posh, 13 months the boy had gone, but that boy is from sister Belladonna, what did they expect really?
He's already well and bothered Fortinbras to help deal with the unrespectable behavior of the Shire on the properties of Bag End; why, Baggins maybe by name but if sister Belladonna did not rise from the grave to give him an earful for not taking care of her only son, Mother surely would! He grumbles of unrespectability, not that he can talk— he's much a Took through and through with his own youth adventures though he's well fortunate enough to have people vouch for his dealings during his 3 long years absence with his own adventure (a smile quirks to his lips, a memory of elven companions by the sea).
He's getting on in his years but he still sees clear, the windows open, a faint smoke billowing on over hill to where the kitchen most likely is and there were no more furniture and mathoms and such in front of the house. Isengar walks up, rings the bell and waits.
The green door opens and Bilbo, in all the traits of his father, grumbling and worrying as he does, gives a small smile, reminiscent of his beloved sister and starts. “Uncle Isengar?”
“Hullo! Good morning, dear nephew. Just visiting, I hope I'm not encroaching on breakfasts? Sun is getting on but I wasn't sure if I still had it in me to walk so I might be late for the breakfasts and too early for elevensies.” Isengar greets with a smile, patting his legs for emphasis of his age.
Bilbo laughs. “Oh, I'm sure you could stroll all up to frogmorton without a sweat on your brow, Uncle. Well, it is a bit early but come in, come in! I have some scones and biscuits still and I've brewed a new pot of tea.” His nephew ushers him in, padding along the still somewhat barren smial into the kitchen. “Bell, Gaffer's wife, gifted some quality tea from their gardens. Bless the Gamgees, went and took off some of my precious belongings before greedy hands got to them.” Bilbo says, using a familiar tea set and pot.
Isengar sits in the kitchen, being served tea as Bilbo rambles on, quietly observing. The house was more barren than it was but spotless and aired out, and Bilbo was clean and at a glance, very much so seemed as respectable of a hobbit that he was before he ran off to his own adventure though, now accompanied by a tiredness over his shoulders. He smiles at his tea.
“I've talked to Fortinbras on the matter of your belongings should you ever need the help. He's new to the Thain work but Isengrim and Isumbras have well trained that boy on disputes and such so don't hesitate to come knocking if any of the rude ones start stirring up trouble!” Isengar huffs, his tea cup softly clinking as he sets it. “Now, on the matter, how are you, boy?”
Isengar sees his nephew freeze, his polite smile dropping slightly. Bilbo opens his mouth to answer then closes it and Isengar knows that face. The hesitation that comes on “odd hobbits” that return after seeing the world. A hand settles on Bilbo's reassuringly.
“Bilbo, my boy.” Isengar softly starts, squeezing the hand in his and a spark of mischief lighting up in his eyes. “Have I ever told you about the sea? or did that old Gandalf spoil my stories whilst you were off?”
Isengar, the youngest of Old Took's and younger brother of Belladonna Took-Baggins, is the first of many idle visits and visitors of Bag end after Bilbo’s return. He sees the change in his nephew and his heart aches as he sees the faint grief much like the one he sees on his own in the mirror. He didn't need his dear mother Adamanta or sister Belladonna to rise from their graves to yell at him that no Took be left behind, especially not like this for all the oddness they already reputed themselves with. So Isengar sips on his tea, patting the chair next to him to usher his nephew to sit. Bilbo's the better storyteller between them really but he weaves his tale to his nephew, glad of the soft smile that delights the smial even if not wholly unburdened.
Bilbo listens and for that day, gives himself a rest from all the busy he has been with retrieving his belongings as Uncle Isengar fumbles through his adventures. Of Elves and men and of wide plains and cities and the sea. And he hears the same longing when his heart sings mountains. And when his uncle leaves before dinner as the sun slowly turns to late afternoon, with promises to visit again, he shuts the door and it is later, as he walks into the parlor after supper has all been cleaned up and night has arrived, he falls.
The hearth is warm with fire and he hears a distant hum, a memory of 13 dwarrow mourning a home they will soon reclaim. Bilbo falls and falls, in wretched sobs and heavy sorrow. No hobbit leaves the shire to see the world and returns unchanged, Bilbo realizes and he cries and cries and cries. He's accepted the madness they've already labeled him with but a comfort settles in his heart. He has changed. Perhaps more than the other “gone off” hobbits that have returned but despite it, he regrets none of it, holds it all close to his beating chest and he is comforted by the kinship his Uncle brought, not just by blood but of heart, never pushing Bilbo of his own tale because hobbits who go off and out of Shire do not return the same (and they were the same, in all their Tookishness).
He takes a spare mattress out back to the parlor where he rests when he can no longer busy himself, not having the heart still to settle into a home that feels changed just as much as he has and treat it the same as it were but finding comfort in the hearth that held memories and the presence of an armchair miraculously not taken in an auction. And for the first time in days, he sleeps restfully, dreaming of a mountain from a view of a high rock, and a quiet hum that made him want to see it all to begin with.
A/N: I havent written in a long time and well half illiterate most of the time. this started out slightly as bilbo dealing with grief and was a bagginshield but i quite like it ambiguous and short as is now so I thought mmmm perhaps it doesnt hurt to share. I like it being just Bilbo and exploring the people around him and how he dealt with that and how they couldve also supported him. I cant imagine just casually pushing through all that he experienced and keeping it all in without breaking and in the end, Bilbo for all his eccentricity by hobbit standards, didnt really break. Isengar is indeed one of the gone off hobbits but I took some liberties on history and personality. I think there's a lot of comfort in knowing you're not alone esp in an insular community and this little thing kinda just ran itself towards that direction. anyways, again, i dont write prose often and despite my extensive ao3 history, i am also just p bad at reading but I hope this is an okay read.

Hivallion Gallery
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In lieu of actual art skills, I just keep making iterations of my OC (or... Blorbo, I think that's what you call these now) in Hero Forge. In order, we've got:
Hivallion in his "natal nest" of Eglarest: Y.T. 1497 (shortly before the Siege of the Falas). He was only 109 (in tree years) when this happened. His hair was a slightly darker shade back then, and already quite long.
Hivallion in Mithlond: S.A. ~2000s. After surviving so many subsequent sieges and wars and even a Kinslaying, he at last found some measure of peace in the Grey Havens. During this age, he wrote and illustrated several books about the wildlife of Lindon and thereabouts.
Hivallion at Daglorad: S.A. 3434. At the age of 5098, he (reluctantly) joined the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, serving under his lord Círdan's banner. Alongside his trained raven companion, he put his scouting talents to good use; it was this raven who would bring word (or an insistent "hubba bubba bub") of Hivallion's Morgul-steel wound to his allies, an act that indubitably saved his life.
Hivallion in Gamwich: T.A. 3016, spring. This figure depicts Hivallion's first startled encounter with a hobbit. He had been in a coma for the entirety of the third age thus far, and was not expecting to see civilization of any sort occupying the former wilds once called "Arassian" but now called "Yondershire".
Hivallion in Long Cleeve: T.A. 3016, autumn. Rather than turn tail and run back to Celondim, Hivallion decided to stay in the Yondershire and make a sincere effort towards understanding this relatively new society of halflings. For about two years, he resided with a particularly eccentric clan in Long Cleeve (the Askews).
Hivallion in Frogmorton: T.A. 3017, summer. During his Shire residency, Hivallion cut his long hair off at the shoulders and began dressing in a more hobbit-like fashion. He celebrated many festivals with his new neighbors and learned an awful lot about the famous (and apparently inexorable) Hobbit custom of gift-giving.
Hivallion in the Lone-Lands: T.A. 3018. Unfortunately, Hivallion's idyll came to an end and he soon found himself getting whisked away on another adventure, this time getting involved with a mysterious ranger calling himself "Strider", a Dúnedain who claimed that he knew Hivallion from his stint as a vegetative tourist attraction in Imladris...
Hivallion at the Haunted Inn, Mirkwood: Early T.A. 3019 (with occasional traveling companion Bingo Boffin). Hivallion has just concluded a most upsetting mission, while all Bingo can think about is breakfast. Typical Hobbit! Indeed, Hivallion continues to wear the same armor he donned at Daglorad, despite its impressive age (and ignoring the patched-up hole near the shoulder from where he got stabbed by a Nazgûl).
Hivallion in Egladil, Lothlórien: Early T.A. 3019. He spent a bit of time here assisting the elves of Lórien as they prepared a fete for the Fellowship of the Ring. Not unlike a certain wedding in Minas Tirith (that technically hasn't happened yet), while the party planners would be most grateful for Hivallion's contributions, they would still neglect to set aside a single seat for him at their tables... 😩
Hivallion at Echad Dagoras, Enedwaith: Early T.A. 3019. At Elrond's personal request, the 8124 year-old Falathrim agreed to become an addition to the Grey Company—an unlikely addition, but a welcome one just the same. The other rangers would often describe Hivallion as the Company's "soft touch", despite his frequently wielding a rather large staff.
Hivallion in Tûr Morva, Dunland: Mid-February, T.A. 3019. Uh oh, it looks like the elf has gotten himself into yet another pickle. But no worries—Tuffy the raven is on the case, ready to bring word of Hivallion's imminent capture to the other rangers, who would otherwise be left wondering why he and Lothrandir failed to show up for that night's campfire supper and sing-along.
Hivallion in the Depths of Isengard, Nan Curunír, Dunland: Mid-February, T.A. 3019. Here, the Falathrim endured a harrowing 56 hours serving Dinner Slop by the ladle-load and running a gauntlet of what we will politely call "errands" under the ever-leering eye of Morflak. Of course, things could always be worse—just look at poor Lothrandir (or at least, we will whenever we find him)...

Hey. I was wondering if you could do a hobbit/lotr headcannon with bilbo, fili, kili, and pippin and whoever else you want to add with an s/o that's just really sweet and innocent who goes on the journey with them and like cooks and cleans things? Thank you.
Sorry for the long wait! I didn’t forget about your request though. I hope you like it!! I’m probably going to expand on this and do a part exclusively involving the respective journeys.
Bilbo:
· You and Bilbo had met at a local market in the Shire
· Being from Frogmorton in East Farthing you were not well acquainted with all the hobbits from West Farthing
· Certainly, you had heard of the Baggins' but never had you met any of them
· The two of you had become intrigued in one another
· The two of you fluttered shyly fluttered around one another before either of you had the nerve to ask to court the other
· Flowers, home cooked meals, and homemade gifts were a must in a hobbit courtship
· Thankfully like the good homebody hobbit you were, cooking and crafting like a second nature to you
· Once you married, you moved into Baggend with Bilbo and fell quickly into a nice routine
· You were the domestic homebody, doing the cooking and cleaning, while Bilbo handled the shopping and errand running
· He was certainly more of a busybody than you
· Your fussing nature suited Bilbo
· Naturally when Gandalf had recruited your husband for his journey you had insisted on coming along
· While many of the dwarves had objected to you coming along, they came around to you much quicker than they did to Bilbo
· Your warm nature and propensity to embarrassment at their crude humor endeared them
· The consistent doting and insistence on helping with even the worst of the chores - the cooking, washing, and mending
· Though most of all it seemed that the way to a dwarfs' heart was through their stomach
Fili:
· You had met Fili at the meeting of the Seven dwarven clans and grown incredibly close in the few days the event spanned over
· You had come along with your father hoping to make some new connections to strengthen the position of your clan
· Instead by the time the event was over, you had entered a courtship with the young prince of the displaced Longbeards (Clan Durin)
· Thorin approved of the courtship and vowed to your family that he would make sure that proper propriety was followed
· As you and Fili spent more time together you became more certain that he was your one (soulmate)
· Fili felt much the same, taken with your head down hardworking attitude and humble sweetness
· It seemed to him that you would give anything a try despite its difficulty
· Thus, when Fili had informed you of the plan to retake Erebor you had no doubts about accompanying him
· It was obvious that this reclamation journey was incredibly important to not just the royal family but the entirety of the Longbeard Clan
· Your commitment to help a clan that was not yours by blood paired with your relationship with Prince Fili had earned you immediate respect amongst the Company
· Considering how others within their own clan (the Ironfoots) had turned their backs, your commitment meant even more to Fili and the company
· Quickly you solidified your role in the company as a handy dwarf - aiding with as many of the chores as you could while consistently being co-cook with Bombur
· The company enjoyed how you doted on each of them - fussing and trying to keep their spirits up
· Fili felt pride watching you fuss over the company
· In the event that the quest was successful you had proved tenfold that you would be a good king/queen consort to his people
Kili:
· You and Kili had grown up in the Blue Mountains together
· It wasn’t until you were in your young adult years that you had noticed his flirtations seemed more serious than Kili let on
· Your shy and somewhat sheltered demeanor played a large role in your ignorance
· Your embarrassment at Kili's flirting seemed to encourage him more
· When he got like this Dis and Thorin would both scold him for being overbearing but were quietly amused by the two of you
· Flirting was Kili's attempt to gauge your reaction, eventually leading to him asking to court you
· Your shy personality and preference for homemaking was in stark contrast to Kili's outgoing rougher personality
· Both Dis and Thorin were greatly amused (and relieved) at your ability to mellow Kili out
· They also appreciated the way you doted on Kili, constantly fretting over him in an endearing matter
· Thus, when the quest to reclaim Erebor was announced, Dis was quietly relieved when you decided to follow Kili along
· She was right
· While you looked out for the entirety of the company, you tended to pay the most attention to your one
· Your tender and caring nature shone through in your actions towards the company, making even their darkest days much brighter
Pippin:
· Of all the places you could have met Pip, the two of you had literally run into one another in Farmer Maggot's field
· You'd heard that the farmer had the juiciest carrots in the entirety of the Shire but at the cost he was selling them you refused to buy them from his stall
· Instead, in an out of character move for you, you had snuck into the field to try some
· Your friends' raving about them and your love of all things food and cooking had led to that moment
· While you had initially been mortified to have been caught doing such a thing, your relationship with Pippin caused you to look back at the moment fondly
· He too was making off with armfuls of the Farmer's produce
· The two of you ended up making off to your house where you and Pippin had enjoyed a night of good cooking and merriment
· In the months later the two of you had spent almost every waking moment together leading up to the forming of the fellowship
· You had been out with Pip and Merry when you had run into Samwise and Frodo being chased by a Nazgul
· It had led to your joining of the fellowship
· You proved to be a valuable member
· Though your skill was not with sword or axe, your skill at cooking and mending was unparalleled by any other member - making meals out of nothing and fixing even the most threadbare of garments
· Pippin admired this greatly
· For a hobbit who was not accustomed to such travelling, you had adapted incredibly well to the circumstances and Pip was glad
· Although he constantly worried over you, Pippin was glad to have you alongside him on this world changing journey

9 people I want to get to know better! I was tagged by @glamorousdrama <3 <3 <3
Last song listened to:
Pimee by Elastinen feat. Bess. Really hits my craving for edm, but also with the usual hiphop vibes. And Obviously Bess is an absolute queen.
Currently reading:
Still stuck partway through The Seven Ages of Death by Richard Shepherd. It is really interesting but the Finnish translation is kind of crap, so it's not as fun. Still, i'm determined to read it through within this year.
Currently watching:
Umm, nothing I guess? I don't really watch stuff these days. Although I've been having The A Word playing in the background when I crochet. And I'm still working my way through the Swedish dub of Phineas and Ferb, but haven't watched that for a few months now, so I can't really say I'm watching that either.
Currently obsessed with:
Käärijä. No one is surprised. I'd also say NateWantsToBattle but that has been an on going obsession for 7+ years. I also have a feeling Fnaf is about to make a big comeback on my list of interests in October.
Tagging: @wow-ihateithere @because-its-eurovision @lnights @teal-skull @nwtbobsessedemo @rattyboyisemo @throckmorton-of-frogmorton @salmiakkisaatanan@newtwantstofight
No pressure at all loves, it's all just fun and games.
