2024 fandom review!

thank u for the tag @willesredlights sorry it took me literally ages to get to it

lets pretend we're not almost two weeks into the new year ok? and what a year it has been. holy shit.

~ Fics written ~

I'll be honest I did go a little batshit crazy this past year. 314k words across 19 published works, plus god knows how much more unpublished on tumblr. listen, I was deep in the ??? phase of my master's (still am, lets be honest) and desperately looking for a new creative outlet. I've always been a writer, always loved dreaming up stories, but I have never quite connected to a universe as much as I have to this one. I resonate with so many of the characters, and i just feel like there is so much room to play and explore. i will continue to add in old people OCs to my fics wherever and whenever i get the chance.

First fic: for the tree's sake (M, 48k) aka tree boys inspired by the trip that eventually led to my discover of young royals in late '23, and my darling baby. yes, that airplane ride that seems weird and random is based on truth!

Fav fic: just if for a minute (T, 53k) aka fake married idiots i greatly enjoyed making Wille suffer for just under 53k. that confrontation scene took days off my life and yet i am so proud of how it turned out.

Honorary mention to Growing towards the light, which was a dream to work on and create with my dear sweet friend Lia. there is one braincell between the two of us and it's full of nature facts and dick jokes. and beautiful stories about getting lost in the wilderness and finding yourself along the way. and tent-dick jokes.

Last fic: Wille på Hyllan (T, 13k) aka christmas shenanigans! another collab with my dearest friends which was hilarious to write and so silly and imo an example of one of the greatest perks of being in a fandom: meeting some of the most incredible people ever. also, dick-lights and dick-tomtar and dick-cookies. what more could you want?

WOO YAY im glad i could inspire you to start writing!!!🙏and i get it, writing fanfic is defs self indulgent and for ourselves first and foremost, but obvs nobody wants to release their work into the void😩 as for how my own fic got popular, one of the main things is defs timing. i published the first chap basically within the first week of the game being out (it came out on the 10th and my chap was on the 18th) so it was there right at the peak/start of the fandom. but i also dont wanna attribute it all to timing BAHHA cuz i think im a pretty good writer and that helps....my fic also didnt get popular right away, but i was consistently posting every single week + eventually started adding art every single week, and was just really dedicated to not only writing but also drawing art for it (which is also obvs another huge factor/probs the biggest factor). ive had so many ppl tell me they started reading my fic bc they saw my art on pinterest or something LOL, and some ppl have even read it fandom-blind bc they were into the seb/clora dynamic??? which is another point actually. i always joke about how i love my cliches and good girl+bad boy dynamics, and that im unashamed about loving them LOL, but also...they're cliches for a reason!!! lots of us eat that shit up!!!😤so i think thats defs another factor, vs if my fic was a bit more niche and avant garde LOL the fandom is also (understandably) a lot slower than it was at the beginning of the year so itll be harder in general, but maybe you could commission art to go with your fanfic? ive seen a lot of other HL fanfic writers do it, and i think it defs helps to draw attention! imagine a world much like your own but with gargoyle security guards and troll landlords and elves and mermaids and monsters and fae and whatever else you nerds can think of

and as it turns out their problems aren't that different from yours

i said this would be an animated show (2D bc i like cartoons.) it will at some point hopefully, but i fear i can not animate at this point in my life (as in i am supremely bad at it), and i'd like to get a bit better at drawing and work on having a more consistent style before i really get to animating

also im significantly better at traditional art than digital so that's unhelpful but thats mostly an experience thing

oh also i want it to be a musical yeah i didnt mention that before

it was inspired by indie shows i've seen on youtube (largely Hazbin Hotel (yes i know its not a great show but it wasn't all bad either. it was a start and it demonstrated what indie animation is capable of even at its not-best. i am choosing to learn from it and give something better to the world instead of just going "wow guys this shit sucks") bc indie animation in general is so cool and i will support a studio with a dream over a money-hungry giant any day of the week (cough cough fuck you disney cough cough)

the neurodivergent experience but she's a mermaid

the sweetest person you'll ever meet but can on occasion be absolutely savage

kinda shy and a bit odd but can do a good yap once u get to know her (chat shes me)

Nema's visions have been there for as long as she can remember. They've always set her apart. Made her special. She doesn't know where they come from. No one does. But she's always seen things beyond what is possible for anyone else she's ever met.

Oh, the things she would do for them to just go away and let her be normal.

But maybe, if they're pointing her in the right direction—which she has a better feeling about than usual—she can make some friends here.

I was only bullied a little bit as a kid (and I kind of deserved it cause I was lowkey a pick me), but the real problem was the feeling of seemingly arbitrary otherness. Nema is for the neurodivergent kids who never fit in and never really understood why being different was so terrible a crime.

We all know what a classic mermaid looks like. I like it when they're a bit more "mer" and slightly less "maid," though, so she's got more fins and gills and such. She's also got nice huge eyes for seeing in the dark and also accidentally staring at people when she zones out (real, girl, real.) She's a cutie patootie and I love her.

Lynx (she/her)

Lynx is a cat lady with a temper and a bone to pick with capitalism. But she's got shit to do. She doesn't have time to worry about the fact that she hasn't felt refreshed since that one nap she took when she was, like, eleven. Time is moving too fast, and all she's got now is two jobs, a shit ton of of paperwork, and a giant tree full of a bunch of fellow brokies and a faerie—can fae be broke? Lynx doesn't think Shailyn even knows what money is. Whatever. She guesses her new roommates aren't so bad.

ADHD is always depicted in media as this silly quirky "oopsie poopsie I forgot to get toilet paper at the store because I got distracted by a shiny dinosaur balloon" thing (although I probably would do something like that.) As someone who (probably—I'm not diagnosed but I've done my research, and I show a lot of the symptoms) has real struggles related to ADHD, it's important to me to raise awareness for it and other forms of neurodivergence, especially for adults and women with ADHD.

Take one look at any cat and tell me it doesn't have ADHD. And so I give you Lynx.

Zing (pronouns? yeah those r cool lol)

Zing is a shapeshifter who lives to be the center of attention everywhere they go, and that works out pretty well—who wouldn't love them? They go wherever looks the most interesting and do whatever fuels their main character energy—and if that means going to live with with a bunch of randos in an old tree, hell yeah. Besides, the elf guy's hot.

Zing is one of those characters who sounds fun and crowd-pleasing and tropey. That is probably true. But there is a whole lot going on under the surface, and I'll let all that speak for itself.

Also genderfluid representation! Again, something I share with a character and further proof that writing is fancily projecting and each of these characters is a piece of my soul.

Zing likes to experiment with fashion and hairstyles a lot, which is tough to keep up with as far as creating different designs. They're a shapeshifter, though, so of course they take advantage of that. They have giant ears for no other reason than that they can have a bunch of earrings and look super badass. Also I'm really proud of the hands on this drawing. I'm one of those people who don't really use references (I know, I know, but I genuinely just forget to 😭) but somehow I'm not the worst at drawing hands sometimes (this is the one drawing I got to do good hands in. That's why Sal has his hands in his hoodie pocket.)

Small note: shapeshifters in media sometimes piss me off because their limitations are not clearly or consistently set. I, the nerd I am, have thought all of this through. Continuity!! If you'd like to hear more what the limitations of shapeshifting are, let me know and I'll post my nerd stuff.

Shailyn (she/her)

Shailyn is a Celtic faerie who knows very little about the human world. She barely has any contact with other creatures in her realm, but, so far, she's been content with her occasional tricks and lack of real social interaction outside the circles of the fae. However, that all changes when an intriguing bunch of weirdos move into the old tree on the edge of the forest, and suddenly she's making friends.

Since she's a Celtic faerie, I always include some swirlies and swoopy shapes. Her design has a long way to go (you can probably tell I'm still experimenting), and it's kinda hard to see the details since I don't know what I'm doing. Her branch antler thingies and wing-cloak thing are always there, though. Also since I wanna get her animated, she's gonna have to have a more consistent and minimally confusing design. She's getting there.

Sal (he/him)

You'd think Sal is the tall, dark, and brooding stereotype. And he kind of is. But that trope pisses me off, so we're doing it realistically and with warmer colors. The man has ✨issues✨ and a very unhealthy dose of generational trauma and we love him. But there's a little something called character growth and development which is really important in this series and basically the whole reason I started writing it.

For his design, obviously he's tall and pointy-eared. He wears a lot of dark colors because of his remaining aforementioned emo phase. There isn't really much else I can say other than the fact that it was way too difficult to make him not wonky. He's not supposed to be wonky. Elves aren't wonky. Whatever.

How would you suggest to learn art? I currently am only able to draw heads not very well but I try and I'm very inspired by your art, do you have any suggestions or tips?

look at ur favs and try to draw like them! when i wanted to start taking art more seriously i was copying frames off cuphead and the sonic mania intro by eye and eventually i made some art friends who i wanted to draw JUST like. and i basically tried to adopt the artstyles that inspired me during whatever era of my life at the time but naturally my own swag shined through and after many years and inspo from so many different things, i draw the way i do now, and am still striving to get better! so what im saying is legit to just look at ur favorite artists and try to do what theyre doing, study ppls styles copy art by eye for practice, try to push yourself to try new stuff. pushing yourself sucks a lot because it can be quite a demotivator when you try to do something cool but you dont see what you quite hoped but thats experience!

wear ur inspirations on ur sleeve! some of my fav artists that have inspired me a lot in the past 2 years are bobobazarra, marcoggers on twitter, vintdoo, dakidavekat, evilsk8r, deppa, mettaflix. and those are only just a few! i could literally go on naming people for hours. dont be afraid to proudly shout abt what or who who inspires ur stuff!

when it comes to hard practice and studies, if youre willing to get into certain techniques u can try looking into ways to break down the body, like boxing out stuff like the torso and pelvis and stuff like that to use as construction. to me when the mood would strike me when i was starting out, doing figure studies and copying poses i found on google was smth id do for like 30 mins to an hour, even if they were terrible it was just fun to draw them and move on to the next. and it was experience! even if it didnt feel like it at the time. like, doing something like copying a buncha hands for fun creates a mental library for ur brain to pick from to help make whatever unique hand youre trying to make for your art. its all experience! so do it when you feel up to it!

and overall just try to have fun, if you find yourself frustrated enough to feel hopeless about art then just try to take a step back and come back later or draw whatever makes you happy. but when youre able to take on challenge and pushing yourself always try to, and try to have fun and keep in mind that what youre doing is gonna shoot your stuff to the stars and that u just gotta keep going. and get pinterest! that shit helps out a fuckton both with creative inspiration and art studies and practicing and tips.

------------------------------------------ also keep in mind everything ive said here is just my personal experience and whats worked for me. everybody works differently with art. something that changed my perspective a lot was meeting one of my favorite artists last year, and asking for advice because i was going through horrible art block and self worth issues. i was going crazy copying peoples art in my sketchbooks trying to figure out what others understood that it felt i couldnt, trying to figure out what was missing. i was super desperate for improvement and it felt like i was improving so slowly compared to others with the same amount of years spent drawing as

i. so when i asked this artist what they did to study stuff, they told me they barely even did studies on anatomy and whatever. which was crazy to me because it felt like they had such a grasp on that kinda thing and stylized it so well. that didnt make me stop studying though but it made me worry about everything way less, because it made me realize you just gotta do what you feel is right and what you feel is truly pushing you, but most importantly have fun doing it. it made me realize art wasnt this rigid ass process where i was breaking rules or not eating enough art veggies. so with that, i accepted myself and i moved forward continuing to push myself but not worrying as much about improvement right away, just have fun and do studies and shit as i went when i wanted to, and give myself a little push to strive for stuff just a bit crazier than what i felt i was capable of.

everyone is different, theres some artists that start from the feet up or start drawing a body from the shoulder its crazy. but its not because its objectively better to do that, its just how they draw. some artists do full sketch constructions for bodies, some artists do everything from eye. im sure theres some that switched from doing everything from eye to wanting to do construction for bodies and stuff, and vice versa. they did what worked for them, but what makes ppl rly improve is simply that they have fun in the process and strive to push themselves, thats the most important thing, or at least thats my perspective on it at this current point in my life.

so do what you feel is right, have fun, try different techniques out, try different stuff that you feel will help you, keep being inspired.

Maybe he was nice to her in the past; that sort of thing but now my mind is fairly odd parents a new wish; most likely her and trixie are all grown up and living their young adult lives and who even’s knows if they’re still friends or still talk to each other

My fairy Felicity gets to travel to different times and universes as long as she doesn’t muck around with Time and don’t change time because that’s Father Time’s job so anything involving time you have to go through him (she has his number to call him if time is involved; she doesn’t muck around with time and upset Father Time; it is now a rule many a fairy has to follow you gotta check in with Father Time; mucking around with Veronica star would be mucking with time atm and we cannot do that; but what felicity can do is show recordings of the past by making little moving screen show up and play events like a little flash back; heck she’ll even magic up some movie treats and drinks so while you’re watching it you can snack) also I see her wanting to become Timmy’s assistant to help him deal with all the lawyers paperwork he’s most likely gonna need in @jessadamsdraws the deal au *she’s been working on trying to induce herself to him to work as his assistant being as it seems he needs one (( also she soo wants to get out of fairy world and doesn’t feel like she could handle being a god parent without getting some experience of what earth is like now; she was a human child from Australia from a time when England was sending convicts to Australia then got turned into a fairy so only times she gets to be on earth is to help cats find their forever homes and she wishes to see how humans have change from when she once was one long long LONG ago))

Also did some more sketching of Timmy and one of Hazel those two characters are quite fun to draw and are very interesting for me to try to learn more about them

Oh man, I kinda forgot most of it but I'll say what I remember ;u; I don't actually have this one very planned since it was a random idea I had, so if anyone would like to add stuff to it or just draw this Sage, feel free to do so. This idea is actually more about an evil Sage who was overtaken by a virus, the government's fault for learning about her and wanting to control her probably. I kinda wanted something that was against her own programming or ideals, confusing her so much to the point of breaking or being corrupted.

Not sure what her goal would be. Maybe destroying the world, destroying only the humans or just take control of everything and everyone. Maybe a corrupted way of love that would make her want to shape the world however she thinks it should be.

She's able to take control and overwrite any robot/machine's purpose, all except for Metal (because unconscious sibling bonding or something).

I didn't actually plan on adding Overlord (or Neo) to this, I only wanted to draw him and OvertakenSage because of the cool factor (lol).

As to why he joined her, not sure either. Could be him wanting to stop her, fear of her taking control over him too, or just doing it because of his own goal like waiting for the perfect moment to strike and him being the one with control over everything. Maybe he doesn't even join her and actually joins whoever tries to stop her, idk

I'm also not sure what would happen to Eggman, or what he would do, all I know is Sage would be against him too. If he would be temporary ally to Sonic and friends or just hide on his own, depends on how it sounds more interesting.

The biggest inspirations for this are actually 3 different things: 1, me wanting to make a virus/apocalypse thing because I have fun with that type of stories, kinda like the whole metal virus stuff (I actually have a different story idea with something more similar to that I guess). 2, stories about computer viruses, specially the "I love you" one. And 3, a song that might be based on that, is called "INFeCTIoN" by VocaCircus, really good song, I like it a lot. I guess there's a bit of inspiration from robot apocalypse movies too? I haven't actually watched that many so...

But yeah, that's my "Overtaken AI" au. Again, it's not very well planned because I'm not even sure if I'll actually use this for anything other than drawings and maybe some small scenes about it, I really just wanted to make my own evil Sage design yay

SKULL SHAPE: I was actually surprise by this, i REALLY didnt expect that😳😳😳 is the head shape that unique??? caz i used to see it everywhere- (twitter mostly) actually, there's kinda a reason behind why i choose this shape :) im really bad at drawing skulls, esp when its complicated, so i simplify it as much as possible to avoid an extra hour on the skull alone☠️ (my average time to draw head this style alone is fucking 10-15 minutes, THE HEAD ALONE OMG- just sketching no color NOTHING-)

EXPRESSION/FACES: i never thought ppl will say that too tbh, i thought i draw expression like many other ppl🥹 maybe ppl see Ink as the most expressive tho, since he IS 💖💖💖 when i draw characters, there's nothing behind those expression, i draw them mindlessly and brainless-😭

THE ONE LINE BROW THING: maybe this i can agree lol :)) I've been inspired alot from Japanese and Korean artstyle + itsroxxanex. Sooooo i did that, my friend used to kinda mock me ab it so i change to 2 brows for a while but IDK ONE BROW IS MY THING- it took just less space and i love simple things <3

SHADING: hmmm i dont really know ab this tho 😭😭😭 i think my way of shading is very generic. The only thing i think made my art pop is the highlights. Im kinda obsessed with light so jajdhdjsod I WANT LIGHT EVERYWHERE. Watching too much RossDraws just made me obsessed with color dodge- ...the shadows i just use default brush and mutiply and sometimes at more colors, thats it 🥹💖

JUST YOUR ARTSTYLE!: i dont think i have an artstyle yet 😭 idk i still change my style alot since June and im still growing, i changed my brushes almost every week and overall just utmost chaos. I somewhat still not satisfied with my artstyle, i want to soon find an artstyle that by just a glance you'll know its me😳😳😳 (ik its kinda weird)

What inspires you as an artist? What do you wish for your art to achieve?

This ask is from a little while ago but I didn't really know how to answer it before *SOBS* I wanted to think on it a little more... I feel like a ton of things inspire me to keep creating, but something really big on that ever-growing list is probably the sense of connection art is able to give different people. Does that make sense?

When it comes to fanart and stuff like that (which I primarily focused on when I started posting art to the internet), I keep drawing and putting myself out there in hopes of reaching people who also enjoy the things I love so we can rave about it together. It makes the experience of enjoying something and creating things that stem from that enjoyment even more fulfilling than it would be if I just kept the stuff I made to myself. It feels really good to spread joy around like that. Sharing and seeing so many people's different interpretations of stories I love and cherish makes me really happy.

I didn't really post my oc drawings online in depth or outside of friend circles before Natalia and all the other ones I have came to be. I didn't really expect people to care about them as much as the fan work I made, but when people did express interest in them it was a really nice surprise. I've gotten so many messages and comments about how little things I add to my characters resonate with people. I've gotten a ton about how Thalia having visible body hair without it being seen as something she's ashamed of by herself and others is uplifting for some, a lot of comments and stuff where people get really excited when it comes to art of Natalia and her body type, and general things about how sweet it is to see my wlw characters be happy with each other. I remember someone also anonymously say that Sadie being the way she is while having that name made them feel good about themself in a weird little loop around way when it comes to their deadname (I don't think I explained it well but if you're the person who told me that and you're reading this u know what I mean). I feel like I might be rambling a bit but I wanted to list some things that I've been told because I still think about them and it fills me with so much happiness that I can't even express it properly. Saying I'm really flattered that people connect with my characters like that would be such an understatement LOL. Every time I get a message like that it really encourages me to keep using them and being proud of my original art and little brain creatures ^_^

It feels really cool to know that people are into them too HAHA when I was younger I used to think to myself "wow wouldn't it be cool if people were attracted to my drawings" and now that it's a reality it feels really cool

It's just really nice to see how much of an influence art can have on people. I'm really happy my little self-indulgent doodles can make other people happy too!!!!!!!

soooo u guys remember Emiko?? yesh I have once again rewritten her, her design will still stay the same, same goes for her name. It's been a while since Emiko really gave me inspirations or any motivation to work on her but recently i was exploring different character concepts and trying to make characters that are not me, and i manage to find one for Emiko that i really like

To answer your question yes I do go to different platforms for agere content :3

When I first started out as a regressor I always went to instagram because it's honestly all I knew at the time as a 12-13 year old kid :> I mainly went there to see thise cute lil text post scripts of cgs and their littles and it made me so small!

Buuuut then many years later I made a friend who isn't in the community but said they read fics on Tumblr! And I was like "omg?? Wait??? I never thought of fics on other websites other than wattpad" (which I'll get to later) so! I went onto here maybe 1 or 2 years ago and I started reading! And I saw how a bunch of blogs would post a bunch of other things and just ✨️🎀✨️

Tumblr is definitely my main and holy grail for agere content

AND I BUILT THIS FYP FROM THE GROUND U P, BRICK BY BRICK

I know a lot of people make moodboards and all that stuff as content but I wanted more agere content for everyone! Which inspired me to make more and more fics! (Since I already post other fics on Twitter x]) I love that I post fics and I love that people enjoy them so much it warms my heart so greatly that people enjoy me and my content QwQ🩷

Now, speaking of fics I know it's probably not necessarily on the list BUT

I do go on wattpad for this one mha agere series and it's so so good and I love it it's been with me for like 2 or 3 years and it's EVERYTHING (I'll drop links if anyone asks I promise)

I also love to read the agere fic of a close friend of mine on AO3 too!

As for Instagram, I do still use it and have it!! Although I usually just use it to either look at art or shop for little gear! I am happy to say that at my grown age I have managed to build up a collection and have favorite shops to buy from x) BUT!! My cg and I are starting up our own Instagram profile together soon!! And I'm so excited!! ^^
