OC: Vinnie
His favorite workout apart from boxing is freeclimbing. He a tall boy, he can REACH.
I re-shot this because lighting it was hard - the sun is coming up behind him, so his front was completely dark but needed to look like sunrise. So fun fact: there are 4 lights placed in that second pic - one ambient for the body, one spotlight for general face, and one spotlight for each ear (gnihihi).
Bonus (from the first shoot)

not to continue the Mental Health Saga but I'm realizing that what I need to do to not have work take over my life and make me insane is to do interesting and different things when I'm off work, so that it kinda fades to the background.
anyway we've quickly gone from "I should start a craft project or a puzzle again" to "I should get out more" to "I should leave town more often" to "maybe I should take up a dangerous hobby like stormchasing or caving"

Bertone Freeclimber II brochure. France, 1992
The Italian manufacturer Bertone built its own version of the Daihatsu Feroza (Rocky F300) with a BMW engine during the early 90s. Here’s a 3-panel fold brochure I took at the Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l’Automobile) in 1992.

BLoG: The Pursuit of Happiness
The pursuit of happiness is a radical path! It can be so simple or so complicated. You can take the easy road or the hard road. You can even take the high road in some cases. In fact, for some it is pure insanity what they must go through or what they put themselves through to find their happiness. For some must go to the extreme to find it.
The pursuit of happiness is different for each one of us. We seek out different life styles, different thrills in life. We obviously have such different goals in life. Life for us looks different here on the ground compared to the views and sights someone might see, climbing at such heights. Some of us even excel to great heights using only our hands/senses to guide us! Like the gentleman in the picture. We each have our own path. Each path is so different. He allows his life to hang in the balance, but these are the choices we make and we must live with that! He knows he's risking his own life, but he LooVes what he is doing and will continue to do so no matter the cost. Why, because it makes him happy. We must chase/acquire our dreams and goals at any cost. Some might say go out on a limb, if you must, but find your happy place no matter what.
We must seek out our happiness at whatever means necessary. Be it scaling cliffs or your own variation of taking risks we are all in the pursuit of happiness. Some of us prefer to keep our feet on the ground while doing so.
But these climbers take us to new heights and new levels of self exploration. Where the only thing you must conquer are your fears and the elements. Such an incredible feat and zest for life unlike I've ever seen. I could not do free climbing like this, but I admire his spirit. Here's to the pursuit of happiness no matter what it may look like.

Rhianthi: Yeah! If I wasn't terrified of heights, I'd probably love this! But I'm terrified of heights, so I DON'T LOVE IT!

While he doesn’t write/narrate it, I can’t help but think that a major part of Jonathan’s fear of the wolves goes beyond fear of death. We saw already that he was fried on the dread of just being killed off when he witnessed the grieving mother and when he dared his way through freeclimbing over a terrifying sheer drop to reach Dracula’s window, plus the trip back. Death itself is still a hair below the Worst Possible Outcome; i.e. never leaving this castle again due to reason of undeaditis.
What I think really scared him was the fear of the misstep. After all these days, weeks, months of hellish dancing to Dracula’s tune. Now, right at the end of all the borrowed time he’s scraped together, now he’s gone and foolishly put himself in danger of destruction ahead of schedule. Of removing the last scrawny chance of escape, of seeing Mina again, just because he cracked enough to dare stepping outside of Dracula’s game.
So he miserably retracts his request, drags himself back to his room, and is left again with the Worse Than Death option hovering in the too-near future.
Tonight is mine. Tomorrow is yours.
Dracula is going to take his draught tonight. That’s a fact. Jonathan cuts away from that scene before the entry is up, but we know it’s coming. The treat Dracula’s been putting off for all this playacting. That first real bite is, as we’ll see later, the first step towards the ticking time bomb threat of vampirism. After that? The Brides get to have him just one measly sunset away. There’s little doubt that they’ll exsanguinate him to ‘death.’ And then?
I hope to see more of you at Castle Dracula.
That’s what he’s gambling with now. The full final risk he has to take before he can forfeit himself to the simpler finality of death by less insidious teeth or a quick, splattering plummet to the Earth. Death is the last option, his final irreversible out...but only for so long.
He’s been careful. So goddamn careful all this time. He can’t throw it away yet for a brief and grisly euthanasia--not when Mina is waiting. Not when there’s a last crumb of hope.
Even if by now he’s probably sure it’s one he’s only imagining.

finally working on a timeskip design for spathi! idk if it's 100% 'final' yet (lol) but am vibing with this so far. here are a few design notes if you're interested!
their outfit and jewelry borrows elements from traditional greek clothing
the blue, white, and gold color scheme is based on their coastal home, with the pale gold representing the wide wheat fields of their family's farm, and the blue and white representing the cresting waves along the beach and cliffs
they braid their hair tightly like a ship's rope, and tie the end with gull feathers
they spend much of the five year span reflecting on the events of White Clouds, wondering about their place in the wider world and in their family. they feel torn between a love of home and a yearning for adventure, and although they've grown more mature and have learned so much, they still struggle to trust in their own worth
they take on more responsibilities around the farm, pick up odd jobs unloading cargo at the harbor, and reconnect with nature by freeclimbing the ruins and cliffs around their home. keeping busy helps them to clear their head and also builds them up physically. they realize that they enjoy feeling stronger and more capable, to better support their loved ones
by the time they return to Fodlan during the events of Verdant Wind, they're much more confident and self-assured, and they finally believe in themselves

So I've always loved the rock climbing scene (I've done just enough bouldering to be both horrified and wildly envious). But if I'm going to treat this film as one that makes intentional choices (and I am going to because it's more fun), it's an interesting decision.
He's introduced that way because it's cool, obviously, and strong and impressive and so on and so forth. All of that has it's due weight in a spy/action film. It also:
Is solitary
Establishes that Ethan is running from the IMF, which besides being notable in itself re-frames the climb not as a hijink he's been forced into, but as something he's doing voluntarily.
Plants the worry that he's treating his life as disposable—freeclimbing without a rope is an unnecessary risk, and his near-fall, besides injecting excitement into the scene, shunts away the possibility that he's just So Good that there's no risk in it.
Poses the question of why he would spend his free time putting himself in danger. The music suggests he's enjoying it—is he an adrenaline junky? So inured to fear and pain that he has to push that far to feel anything, even just for a good time? I'll circle back to this one later.
All of which stands in marked contrast to his introduction in MI1, where he's in the middle of a mission, invigorated and fulfilled by his work, alongside teammates who seem more like family. MI1 Ethan clearly loves a challenge, but there's no reason to assume he would be reckless without cause.
So while out of the gate MI2 Ethan is flashy and impressive, there is immediate reason to suspect that, unlike in your average Bond film, this isn't a character reset. MI2 may stand on its own, disconnected from MI1 in style and tone and plot, eschewing all references. But within Ethan himself the scars and the losses he bore are carried forward.
