Reports Show Online Shopping Hinders Social Growth & Values
In today’s digital age, the convenience of online shopping has created a new normal where instant gratification reigns supreme. A few clicks, a confirmation email, and in no time, a package arrives at your doorstep. This ease and immediacy, however, have done more than revolutionize commerce. It’s altering social behavior and eroding the traditional working-class values of patience, hard work,…

We could use your help!
Tumblr media
If you support the groundbreaking, inclusive, affirming, feminist, comprehensive, young-people-centered, queer sex ed for all we've provided for 25+ years to over 90 million people, please help us raise the $15K we need to pay our bills in 2024, or become one of 250 new donors we need for 2025! You can do that at Scarleteen.com/contribute or by heading to our site and clicking ‘Pitch-In ’. 🎉 If you’re already donating (thank you!) please consider increasing your monthly amount, if you can, even a little bit. We’ll count any increases we get towards our two goals! You can do that by clicking 'Manage Your Donation' in your latest donation receipt. If you can’t donate yourself, can you tell your friends, family and followers who we are, why you value our work and ask them if they’d be willing to donate? You can share this post and the link above, but using your own words is the most effective! Despite leading the way in SRE online from the 1990s on, and always making sure young people have access to good information even when it is suppressed elsewhere in their lives, we remain underfunded, including funding to pay our staff a fair, living wage. We need to meet this $15K goal to fund our most basic needs and our tightest budget. If you can help us do that, we can focus on providing awesome SRE, growing, improving and kicking-ass, and finding more funding for 2025. Thank you! ❤️

Grammar time
This was my mams when she was in school and she gave it to me. It has everything from how to congugate regular verbs and every irregular verb, how to put things into questions, how to reply in the affirmative/the negative, useful question words, prepositions, all of the essentials. It's okay if you don't understand all of it, I didn't at first, but now I love this cheat sheet

Ummm Carmen released a book now?!
Lol, yes, so it seems!
I mean... I haven't exactly hidden the fact I'm not a fan of hers or of wag culture in general, but I saw this and... it really sums up what it is that bugs me about the whole thing.
Not to be patronising but I really hope people realise - This isn't a book, it's a recruitment scam ploy for Female Invest. It's not a book with a reduced subscription, it's a reduced subscription package with a free 'e book'. You can't buy this book on it's own, or without giving your personal details to their company. You also will be auto-enrolled into an auto-renew subscription that will be £99 a year after the first year.
I'm not going g to tell people what to do with their money but just... please don't go rushing in to buying this just because it has her name on it. It's bad enough when WAGS are selling you overconsumption and overpriced designer shit you don't need but... I'm really uncomfortable with this one, because there's incredibly mixed reviews on Female Invest as a company (some positive but an awful lot not - I'd advise you to do your research on them), and also not much clarity on her own credentials. Having a famous boyfriend, a 500k insta and a LinkedIn really isn't enough to go on when offering around financial advice to people.
Obviously it's everyone's personal choice to make, but... I'd definitely tread carefully here. It's very... grifty and full of red flags. Companies don't tend to just offer you memberships at less than 50% their alleged market value... the fact you're getting an extra thrown in suggests neither of the end products are worth that in the first place 😬😬

censoring info on suicide, mental illness, abuse, racial discrimination, and violence doesn't "protect minors" from anything it only makes it harder for children(or adults for that matter) struggling with those things to get access to useful resources. enables abusers and fascists to run undisputed while people calling them out get the hammer, and gives more power to state entities to in act censorship on the web of any subject state attorneys don't want people knowing about(like the genocide in palestine, history of violence against minority groups and lgbt folk, the attorney's own criminal connections, ect.). enforced through even more intrusive spyware anyone supporting this bill is either a fascist who wants the internet censored or an idiot who doesn't know how the internet functions outside of facebook. this doesn't only affect americans, we are affected too because most big sites are american run, go to stopkosa.com and send your complaint to help stop it

Tumblr media
tags update: US politics is 5th on trending. with supreme court, scotus, and kosa trending under it. also "kids online safety act" is trending
edit: non of them are front page anymore... still trending tho
reason? kosa has been introduced in the house of representatives, a closer step towards becoming constitutional
Tl;dr on kosa(go read eff or watch sog for more details)
the "kids online safety act" is a bill in the US senate by senators richard bulmenthal and marsha blackburn originally introduced in feb 2022 with the goal of "protecting kids from dangerous or harmful content online", enabling local state attorney generals the power to enforce it. except the "duty to care" which is handled by the federal trade commission as of feb 2024
the bill is, at core, an act of censorship forced through even more invasive spyware. the vague language used in the bill enables wide scale censorship up to the wimps of state attorney generals and the FTC. subjects that are potentially under rest of censorship include suicide, eating disorders, self harm, substance abuse, bullying, violence, sexuality, sex ed, mental health, ect.
censorship of such subjects doesn't solve those issues
they only limit accessibility to useful resources for people suffering from mental illness, experiencing suicidal thoughts, addicts, people looking for info on sex-ed(that their school should have provided), transgender people struggling with gender diaspora, lgbt people, people belonging to minority groups trying to look up or spread awareness of their history and prosecution, online activists and educators trying to do their job(you know.. the kind of thing we are trying to do here concerning an on going ethnic cleansing). the "it is for the kids" excuse is bullshit
this is bad even to non americans?
sense most of the big social media sites we uses, like tumblr for example, are US based they will be affected by the bill. and if this bill is based it could work as an example for other countries to introduce similar bills. if you want to help go to stopkosa or badinternetbills. and send a complaint through them
DON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT INJUSTICE

Get Ready to Hit Your Writing Goals in 2024
Want to start writing regularly in 2024?
A few months ago, I made this free course for writers. It's called Writing Habit for Life and helps you set up a writing habit that will fit around your lifestyle so that it's sustainable for the long term.
Tumblr media
Just setting a goal and getting on with it works for some, but it usually isn't enough. Many abandon their plans a few weeks or months later despite their best efforts. It's a shame.
The thing is, the difference between someone completely stuck and someone making progress isn't that big. It may be just a few tweaks that will break you out of the vicious cycle. Maybe you're too distracted and need to clean up your environment a bit? Perhaps you need a little more accountability?
Small things matter because they get magnified over time. A small mistake repeated every day adds up to a serious issue.
The course covers it all, and it's completely free! You'll get a new lesson every day for two weeks. Click here to learn more.

Funding update: We're still short
Tumblr media
Co-director Jacob here, with an update on our current fundraising efforts. We sure appreciate your understanding this interruption to the award-winning sex and relationships education programming we’d much rather be spending our time providing for you! Just over 200 wonderful folks have made a donation or become a recurring donor since we started, but we are still short of our goal! We’re still 171 new recurring donors and 5K short of 15K we need to pay our most basic bills through the end of 2024 to help us avoid cuts to our staffing and services in 2025. We'll need just around as many people as have already pitched in to close the economic gaps we're up against, and help from people who value what we do to close them. You know the drill! If you can pitch in financially, and especially as a recurring donor, we’d love and appreciate your help at any level. If you can’t, or you already have and want to help some more, making your own posts about us, why you value us, and directing your circles to our work and where to donate to support it can go such a long way. Thank you for keeping us trucking, especially to those of you who have donated now or in the past, and those of you loudly banging this drum for us out here! Here's the link to donate for yourself or to direct others to:

Gearrscannán ar YouTube
Short films on YouTube
(Don't worry, everything has English subtitles in the videos themselves)
Fán https://youtu.be/e3xnvkMp_1Q?si=i-4pmljDbzA8bRtu
Created by the incredible @nibmoss, an absolute queen (Bánríon). It is a short sapphic story about 2 best friends who end up together and it is my favourite short story ever!!! It is also my favourite piece of Irish media in existence!!! I love it!!! It is incredible!!! BEYOND AMAZING!!!
Yu Ming is ainm dom https://youtu.be/JqYtG9BNhfM?si=jnZjP4LozqOhNxkI
This is a classic. Ive had 4 different teachers show me this over the years, and my first year Irish class studied it exam style. It was the first piece that we studied and everyone LOVED it, people were quoting it all the time. Every second conversation had someone using a line from it. It's a crows pleaser and simple to listen to even without the subtitles provided. It also has a great storyline about a man who is fed up with his life in China and learns Irish to move over here, and well (bhuel) , I won't spoil the plot twist for you
Lipservice https://youtu.be/4QP0eEhhTSo?si=1DLvo_ECRhwGI5s8
It's the day of the oral exams and everyone is terrified (bhí imní an domhain ar gach duine), people are rehearsing in the bathrooms and speaking French instead of English, the stuff that half of them come out with is absolutely gas, this one is such a bit of craic, I was in stitches. And the bit at the end is so sweet. Is breá liom an gearrscannán seo agus beidh mé mo scrúdú béil i dhá bhliain 🙈🙈🙈 (I loved this short film and I've my speaking test in 2 years🙈🙈🙈
Filleann ar feall https://youtu.be/Tay7eMxas2k?si=q3ksVJVYJ7E_xxoa
IT'S CILLIAN MURPHY AG CAINT AS GAEILGE!!! You can't beat a bit of Cillian, he's a national treasure. And this is 2000 Cillian, he's so young (this was before I was born) he's in the Gaeltacht for his holidays with a grumpy friend, on a job to sell some Putchín, and he is everyone's favourite sweetgeart, a bit of a himbo, and a respecter of old ladies. Agus deir duine sa sna tuairimí (a person in the comments said that it's like Breaking bad, but with an Irish teacher that instead of a chemistry one (I've never seen Breaking Bad, so I don't know how true that is, but I do know that this was AR FHEABHAS!!!
Rúbaí https://youtu.be/jjYx5v2BUWo?si=tFu1ektBvHNkoQFB
This is a short story about a little girl (cailín beag) who's class is about to make their 1st Holy Communion, but she doesn't believe in God (ní creideann sí i nDia). She's everyone is trying to convince her that god is real and she's just like "nope, read a bit of Darwin, he's great, I'm off to collect worms", even to the priests face and towards the end there's a bitter sweet twist which gives a LOT of background. This was a nice, easy watch, the little girls was so cute, there were a couple of laughs (cúpla gáire) and the vocab was nice and simple
Gaiste https://youtu.be/Xr-V7vg_Y2Q?si=cMMNqPLkmtugbg8t
Very simple vocab, good message, kind of like a fable, big "One of us is Lying" vibes. Nice short film overall
Fíorghael https://youtu.be/t3Kv4fZ2SOE?si=bHibiFJyRUcvZ-TZ
This ones a bit older, but it's still a good bit of craic. You need to wait a couple of minutes to get into it, but the end is brilliant (Caithfidh tú cúpla nóiméad a fanacht chun dul isteach ar, ach tá an chríoch go hiontach)
Sylvia https://youtu.be/fi_4aweOP4w?si=ZCfUAfYaD73IVn8r
There are plot twists, and then there plot backflips, this was the later. This is so weird, but I really enjoyed it at the same time
Ciúnas https://youtu.be/cGfuQ-HeTmk?si=WRPGmo-UNQ0bw9mA
There's not much dialogue, but all of it is very casual, so you still get to pick up a few words that you wouldn't find in a textbook. The storyline is quite sweet, but please be careful watching because it although it centres around her family's love for her, it is set on the way home from the hospital after she tried to end her own life

Tired of writing your wips in Google docs?
(✨Free resources for writers 1: Reedsy book editor✨)
What is Reedsy book editor about?
Reedsy is a free web where you can peacefully write your books, similar to Scrivener or Dabble. It has the option to divide your writing in chapters and parts, and you can also insert scene breaks. It's easy and intuitive to use, and apart from the book editor, you can also read Reedsy's blogs, attend writing lives with professionals or look in the marketplace for writing-related services (you can access Reedsy marketplace for free, but if you are willing to hire any of the services in it you will have to pay the professional).
Other features:
It has word count and word goals (you can also see an approximation of the time it'd take to read your work).
Space for your notes and outlines, or whatever you need while you're writing (character sheets, an image, some link...).
Possibility of sharing, but the other person can only read. You can select which chapters they can see.
You can access your work in any device.
Version history for your manuscript.
You can create as many projects as you want.
You can upload your existing manuscript to Reedsy and continue working there.
It has spell check.
Downsides:
Reedsy it's only accessible online, so you'll need internet connection.
It gives you little formatting options, with three different fonts.
I have a lot of resources like this, so stay tuned if you don't want to miss out!!
Hope you like it and happy writing :)

I have a gift for y'all today !!! 😊 Ever wanted to find a line in Re:Kinder in a single place for the sake of reference?? How about multiple chunks of lines. how about all the little variations that arise in the text with it's many endings, item descriptions, text that comes from interacting with the enviroment, and character info from the menu without having to boot up the game and go through it at long minutes!!???
well i sure did😊 Since I do a lot of fanart and think up my own silly theories and thoughts that need me to reference the game lines a lot, i have made a transcript for it for convenience's sake. A weirdly thorough transcript handwritten and proofread by me including all character lines available in-game. And I'm sharing it with you all today for anyone that wants it !!! :3 To use as a reference for creative fanworks or a quick search for a line in-game, whatever you wish to use it for!!
It uses the english translation of the game by vgperson. So naturally all credit for the game lines available in here is to her and Parun who made the game.
I did my best to organize it in a way easy to digest. Do note that I'm still human, and there's still the chance for mistake in it no matter how much I've proofread it, since I'm not even an english native speaker ^^. But I hope it serves you well nonetheless if you wish to use it.
That's my gift for today!!! Not the usual art, but still a project I'm proud of. Enjoy!!! 😊
#re:kinder#rekinder#not art#now goofy commentary for those who read my tags#i may have spent at the very minimum around 35 hours on it 😁 because thats what my pomodoro timer got to count in sum#but then again i spent more time without timing it as well so. we'll never know how many hours in total I've put into this#no regrets it was fun because shocking fact of all i enjoy this game🫣 (/s)#you could say but michael there are long playthroughs available on YouTube#couldnt you reference that instead of making a transcript#to that i say... they don't play the game like i do im picky as hell they dont show me every nook and cranny possible#and also i dont like scrubbing through those i thought just pressing ctrlF on a script would be easier. AND IT IS JAJSJSJSJSJS#but thats personal preference all in all#and im used to using transcripts for fanworks coming from earthbound. like there's one for the main game dialogue online and i love it a lot#for this game to not have any felt like some sort of crime considering how cool the story and the lines it has are#its also plenty useful for a game you're writing the spanish wiki for#yes i am doing that apparently my hobby became community work since i got into this game#gotta put that free time before turning 18 and getting a job onto something why not make resources just because i can#anyway fun fact while proofreading i noticed that everytime yuuichi was on scene there was a typo because i got too excited or emotional#either i was laughing because of how evil he is or i was getting unreasonably angry at the treatment he recieved in the past#in section 9 which is true end confrontation i was doing mistakes left and right until the fabled princess line scene#there i was bawling like a baby but THE ERRORS STOPPED ABRUPTLY LIKE I WAS FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE ALL UNTIL THE SCENE ENDED#THEN THERE WERE A BUTLOAD OF MISTAKES ITS INCREDIBLY FUNNY😭 i was fighting for my life holding in all those typos because i couldnt see#so this transcript was made with a lot of emotion laugh and tears and now you know#now i can get bagk to drawing this is the thing i mentioned i was doing fot a while#content feeding schedule crazy rn

maybe an unpopular booktwt/booktok/bookstagram opinion but buying limited special editions of a book or book series you havent read is so odd to me. Like theres people who have actually read and want that limited limited edition but you just buy it to look pretty on your shelf. Yeah you can buy books you plan to read but i have seen so many posts of people buying DOZENS of books and just having them on their tbr or displayed on their shelf.
its a big part of the growing issue of overconsumption on booktok/bookstagram/booktwt. Theres nothing wrong with buying a book you like but these people doing expensive book hauls, especially off of amazon (which has tons of its own issues to unpack) are so weird to me.
Support libraries!!! read a book from the library before you buy it!! this benefits way more people in the long run and is much more sustainable.
