Christ, there are too many options.

Your vision is swimming in the Family Planning aisle, fluorescent overheads of the CVS taking up residence in your left temple.

You press your fingertips against the spot, massaging gently as you pull different brands of boxes from the shelf to inspect the instructions.

This one says take within twenty-four hours, that might be- oh, shit, there’s a weight cap. Dammit. And this one’s… twice the price? For fucking why?

Frustrated, you shove the expensive thing back in place. The words on the blue label next in line catches your eye- Pre-Seed Fertility Lubricant- and you snap your hand away, as if scorched. Nope. Opposite of what you need. Christ. Pre-Seed?!

It’s almost giggle-worthy. You take out your phone, glancing up and down the aisle; the store is empty this late at night, just an older woman behind the front registers who had greeted you earlier with bored corporate formality, eyes fixed on her magazine.

Picture of Pre-Seed, taken. Check that one off the list. The only person who you’d want to share a laugh over text about this with is the one person who does not need to know why you’re in the goddamn Family Planning aisle at ten PM. On a Thursday.

At least, not yet. You lock your phone, pocketing it before zeroing in on the purple and green-themed Plan B that boasts One Tablet, One Step.

Although it’s pricier than some of the other morning-after pills, it’s the only one that you feel fully confident about buying. You give the box a little toss, feeling the next-to-nothing weight of it in your palm. Fifty bucks for a tiny pill, one that you may not even end up using- but you’ll be goddamned if you’re caught unprepared.

“Can I help you find anything?”

Your blood flashes cold, then hot, as you realize who the voice belongs to- attention focused elsewhere, you didn’t hear Eddie sidling up the aisle until now.

He’s leaning into his arm on the nearest shelf, grinning wolfishly at his own joke, chocolate eyes lit up at having found you here. He looks obscene- biceps and chest bulging at the stretched fabric of his t-shirt, hair unspooling dark curls from a low bun, black ink tattoos rippling over his bare forearms and peeking out from beneath his collar.

Honestly, you don’t know why he wasn’t stopped at the door by the woman on night shift. He’s bordering public indecency with those fitted Levi’s alone.

Fortunately the shock of hearing Eddie’s low voice is not enough to send the Plan B in your hand flying- too late to reshelve it without him seeing, you cling to it tighter, plastic creaking under your grip as you pray to every god ever that he doesn’t notice.

“Oh! Hey. Hi. Haha, very funny.” Well, that was smooth, but at least you said something comprehensible. “What’re you doing here?”

Eddie doesn’t seem to notice anything amiss, using his free arm to reach for a pack of condoms near your head- “Late night shopping. Stocking up for the weekend. Can’t seem to keep these around, seeing as I’m being fucked out of house and home.”

”Well… apartment,” you correct, heart leaping at the smile lines that jump around Eddie’s eyes. This is good, maybe you can just keep him talking and find a second to shove the Plan B into a random spot or perhaps launch it into the sun-

Nope, too late. Mid-crinkle, Eddie’s eyes drop to the package in your hand, and you watch his face drop as he processes multiple trains of thought at once.

“Oh, shit. Is that… did we…?”

There’s a pinch between his dark brows, likely running through the last few weeks of your hookups (which have all been protected) and trying to do the mental math; you shake your head, trying to stammer through the flush of embarrassment that’s overtaking your system.

“No, it’s not- not from us. Not from you. I mean…” you trail off, shifting uncomfortably from one sneaker to the other as words hit a jam in your throat.

Eddie’s in a full frown now, pushing off the shelf, standing to his full height, confusion and hurt seeping into his expression, voice quiet and pitched deep- “Is it from someone else?”

“Oh my god.” This was a nightmare, right? You’d like to wake up now. “No, no, not from anyone else. It’s-”

A sharp exhale, a shake of your head, and the words loosen all at once- “I was gonna get it for us, for me, for this weekend, if you wanted to give me a reason to use it.”

Eddie goes as still as you’ve ever seen him before, fingers stopped in their usual constant tapping, blinking at the box in your hands.

His face smooths.

Then he smiles.

Your stomach flips.

Eddie slides the condoms back into the wrong spot, not bothering to look as he leans in close enough for you to smell the spice of his cologne as he says in a sex-dipped timbre: “Well if you wanted me to fill you up with my cum, why didn’t you just say so?”

A horrified, awkward squawk escapes before you can bite it back; your head whips down the aisle to make sure no one else was within earshot of his dirty mouth as you blindly shove the Plan B away, deep into a shelf. “Oh my god. Jesus christ.”

”Eddie is just fine,” he responds mildly, the cool demeanor to your rapidly heating one as his grin simmers wicked between dimpled cheeks.

“Forget it,” you start, shaking your head and making to brush past, embarrassment flooding in hot, “Just forget-”

Eddie catches you by the elbow, effectively locking you in place with a single move, but he’s not looking at you; with his free hand, he snaps up the slightly crumpled box and scans the words.

“Y’think one will be enough?”

The flood subsides, gives you pause enough to stutter out, “W-what?”

Eddie’s fingers flex on your arm. He turns the box over in his big hand, rings glinting. “We’d better get two. Just in case.”

Your skin feels the impression of his palm even after he lets go, like a Polaroid in rapid reverse as he grabs a second box, warmth fading fast from your skin. “I don’t think- I mean, that’s not how they work, I should probably find a more permanent sol-”

“Just for the weekend.” His eyes are back on you now, self-satisfied smirk giving way to something darker, more intense. “Yeah?”

A shiver casts goosebumps down the length of your body. He’s goddamn toying with you, in the middle of a fucking CVS. Despite your flare of irritation, you nod, voice nearly a croak as you echo, “Yeah.”

The grin lights up his face again. “Good girl.”

Eddie doesn’t give you time to react to this (verbally, anyways- your cunt is most certainly responding to the praise despite your best efforts to remain unaffected), using one large hand to hold both boxes and another to press at the small of your back, leading you down the aisle.

Truthfully, you’re grateful for the help (regardless of his dominance-based tendencies that don’t usually get you this easy); based on the ringing in your ears, you’re doubtful of your own ability to navigate the maze of aisles.

Eddie walks you both to the front register, and you watch as if outside of your own body while the cashier scans the barcodes and Eddie swipes his card.

He pockets the receipt, slides a finger through the handles of the plastic bag, and holds it out between your bodies. Right in front of the goddamn cashier.

”For you.”

This brings you back to yourself, a bit, mortification giving way to annoyance (a much more useful emotion in this scenario), and you snatch it to your chest. It’s your turn to grab Eddie’s elbow, half-dragging him towards the exit.

“Come again soon,” the cashier calls, still in monotone.

So close. You’re less than a yard away from the sliding glass doors that would have swallowed Eddie’s reply- but as it stands, he gets in one last cheerful wave, an award-winning, dimple-charmed smile to match his bright response.

“She will!”

Damn him. You give a final tug and you’re both out in the parking lot, glass doors closing automatically with a whoosh behind you, cool night air kissing at your cheeks.

”Seriously?” You’re mature enough to recognize that your anger is misplaced, adrenaline-fueled, but that doesn’t stop you from whirling on Eddie, giving his shoulder a sharp shove that (unfortunately, tantalizingly) doesn’t move him an inch. “I can never return to this fucking store. Thanks for that.”

Eddie really doesn’t help his case, grin turned shit-eating as he rustles through his various pockets for his pack of cigarettes- “Careful, sweetheart- you know how hot and bothered I get when you’re mad.”

”Unbelievable.” You turn on a swift heel, slipping the bag loops up your arm to dig for your keys. “You just got me blacklisted from our local drugstore and you don’t even care.”

There’s the snick of a lighter behind you, while your car a few spaces down chirrups and blinks in response to the furious press of your fob’s unlock button.

Eddie chuckles, sardonic and unsympathetic. “Too bad this is the only CVS in the whole world. I think you’ll live, princess.”

Ignoring this, you stomp towards your car, petulant, bag rustling; the door is half-open when Eddie calls, “So, are you coming over tonight, or what?”

“Obviously!”

The door slams with more force than you intend, sound ricocheting across the lot.

From the respite of your tinted windows, you watch as a streetlamp-haloed Eddie takes a drag from a cigarette, smoke drifting thick around a hazy visage of the hottest man alive. (Maybe you’re a touch biased. But your opinion is based on personal accounts, so fuck the naysayers.)

He tips his head back to look at the stars, pale column of throat illuminated- with a flush of realization, you scoff. He’s putting on a show for you.

Two can play, you think, driving your seatbelt into place with a click. But first I’m gonna have to make a stop at home. Namely for new undies.

How to make a homunculus no glue no borax

Materials:

• human semen (fresh)

• horse dung (fresh). If not available, place cucurbit instead in a secure temperature controlled environment of about body temperature.

• arcanum of human blood (or mercury)

• cucurbit (a jar similar to an alembic. See below). If you do not have a cucurbit, instead use a large jar, about a foot tall.

• you may need a syringe

Optional:

• gloves (leather recommended)

• syringe

• uterus of a horse

Instructions:

1.) Insert the horse uterus into your cucurbit or jar so that the opening is at the top. If not using a horse uterus, ignore this step.

2.) Embed the lower 2/3 of cucurbit or jar in horse dung. This should remain at a stable temperature in a stable environment for 40 days. Horse dung will heat naturally. Process should not be disturbed.

3.) If needed, use a syringe to insert the human semen into the horse uterus in the cucurbit or jar. If not using a horse uterus, instead insert the semen directly into the container.

4.) Cover the cucurbit or jar with its lid and embed it into the dung until the bottom of the lid touches.

5.) After 40 days, your homunculus — though not yet visible — will begin to quiver. At this point, insert mercury or another arcanum of human blood to feed your homunculus as needed. Incubate for 40 weeks or until fully grown.

Pro tip: If you wish to keep your homunculus caged and captive, be aware that upset homunculi are prone to attempts at escape and can be hostile. Be sure to keep your homunculus tightly secured, if at all. Many opt for a glass jar. I would not, however, recommend such a tactic, as there have been numerous cases of homunculi escaping from simple jars (note the case of Count Johann Ferdinand von Kufstein and l’Abbé Geloni).

Rather than keep your homunculus captive, it is encouraged that it be raised as a human infant for maximum efficiency.

Example of the types of alchemical containers and apparatuses, including the cucurbit (called a cucurbite in the first image and tazza in the second image):

Popular uses for homunculi and closely related creatures:

1.) Many people use their homunculi as part of a machine with which to transform urine to a more pure substance, such as mercury or antimony.

2.) Others, such as Faust, have used their homunculi as more intimate helpers in magical practice.

3.) Some people eat mandragoras (also know as mandrakes, duda’im, or alraunen) for their hallucinogenic, aphrodisiac, and narcotic properties. DO NOT eat your homunculi. This will NOT provide the same effect.

4.) Mandragoras can be made into amulets of love, good fortune, fertility, etc. (for best results, consult a Romani person).

5.) Mandragoras are used in most magical flying ointments and in other potions.

I’ve only known Jade for nineteen pages and already I am so struck by how she’s presented differently to the other characters. Here are the differences I’ve noticed so far:

Jade is asleep during her introduction.

Jade’s incorrect name is graded ‘?’ instead of ‘X’.

Jade is not in her room while being introduced, and we are not immediately given a list of her interests.

Jade may in fact have more than one room, as the garden atrium is referred to as hers (p.768).

Jade’s arms are already out, and do not have to be retrieved.

Jade correctly names herself, instead of allowing the player to do this. (Very transgender of her).

Jade has more than one shirt symbol – so far we’ve seen ‘atom’, ‘pumpkin’, ‘leaf’ and ‘Slimer (blue variant)’.

Jade plays more than one instrument, and possibly more than one mode of playing music (‘silly’ as well as ‘haunting’, perhaps).

Jade does not yet have a fetch modus assigned, and has multiple modi to choose from right away.

Jade seems to have a reasonably healthy relationship with her guardian, acknowledging both positives and negatives in her grandfather, instead of dramatically leaning in one direction.

Jade doesn’t appear to have any restrictions on her short term actions; p.777 suggests she’s free to move around both inside and outside the house, and isn’t in immediate danger.

Jade obeys the command to ‘squeal like a piglet and fertilize some plants’.

Some of these involve Jade having more than one of things the other characters had only one of. Could Jade have more than one family member? Perhaps a large family of which her grandfather is the patriarch, keeping control over the household but also keeping the family tight knit?

‘Things seem to appear and disappear around here all the time. Especially, to your unending chagrin, any sort of large orange gourd that might be lying around.’ (p.770) Somebody set WV’s appearifier coordinates to Jade’s location, and has been taking her things for a while. However, the appearifier is NOT also a deappearifier (only a dunce would think so) – there must also be a deappearifier keyed to her location. Could this be in the apple shaped bunker we saw in WV: Ascend? And do these being locked onto Jade’s location have anything to do with the frog tower?

It is hard to imagine how some of Jade’s fetch modi (p.772) would be used in practice, but they have amazing potential for minigames. I’d love some interactive panels where we help Jade grab things out of her sylladex.

Jade’s sleep schedule is so fucked. She just took a nap, but p.777 reveals that she hasn’t yet wished John a happy birthday. WV’s appearifier also proves that Jade is right back at 4:13pm John’s time. So she is going to take a SECOND nap in the next few hours. I hate taking naps and have never related to a character less. No wonder she has no time for flute practice.

I also realized from page 777 that these characters have only had four fingers this entire time. It’s not just Jade; we see it with Dave on p356-7, Rose on p.232, John as early as p.16 and even his fake arms on p.7.

Cregan Stark one-shot ideas?

He had 5-7 minutes of screen time, and it was enough to remind me where my allegiances lie. Team Black, Team Green...drama on both sides. Just give me more Cregan and more Northern scenes, that's all I ask.

Having said that, if anyone gets inspiration from these ideas, feel free to write them out, just tag me! Maybe, I'll actually try to do it myself, but for now let them just sit on my profile.

Anyhow:

Cregan Stark x reader where she is a Northener but lives somewhere alone in the woods. Her home is guarded by wild animals, she has bears with which she is connected, and is what you would consider a witch. Cregan knows of her considering that he consults with her when his party goes out to hunt in order not to kill any animals whom she protects. She also comes to help when it is needed to heal some of his soldiers. And let's say that Cregan gets injured at one point and stumbles somewhere near her cabin. She finds him, and brings him in, sewing the wounds and stopping the infection from spreading. During that time, Cregan and her become closer, and he takes a liking to her, noting how she pays attention to each wound (I mean it's always a fluffy scene when one person take care of a wounded future love interest). He also sees how she cares for her animal companions, and yet she is still firm with him, not allowing any unnecessary movements until he heals. Of course the Warden of The North becomes a wee bit smitten in the end. How that develops is up to you.

2. The Northerners are preparing a feast for the Old Gods and the ending of the Winter. Large bonefires are being built, and the Common Folk are all gathering to celebrate. It is a wild affair - the Northerners are known to be wild, but during these festivities there is a sort of primal feeling to it all. People are dancing, it is as if some of them are in a trance at that very moment. It is also a festivity of fertility when young men and women jump over the fires, and come together while the Moon keeps watch over them. Cregan also attends the festivity, happy to be among his people. As he watches them dancing, he sees one person standing out. She jumps over the fire, without expecting to find a partner afterwards. She dances with the others, spinning around, happy to celebrate their Gods. I remember a line "head thrown back, throat to the stars, 'more like deer than human being.' To be absolutely free! [...] To sing, to scream, to dance barefoot in the woods in the dead of night, with no more awareness of mortality than an animal!" So that is how Cregan would see her at that moment. And of course that he inhales sharply when he sees her like that, but he looses her in the crowd of people afterwards. The girl stays in his mind, yet he believes he won't see her anymore, considering he has his own duties to fulfill. So imagine the surprise on his face, when the girl comes into the castle one day to ask of him that he controls the amount of animals his men are hunting. Winter will come again, but there needs to be some balance in nature. He agrees, yet takes the chance to ask her to join them in the hunts in order to consult him on the areas which are best to hunt and where they can gather enough food for their people (no other reason). She agrees, and from then on...it's up to you.

3. I usually imagine a Northern character (and it can be a reader or OC). But it can also be a daughter of Rhaenyra and Daemon. She was trained in fighting by her father and she has inherited her father's spirit. Cregan arrives to Dragonstone one day in order to discuss certain matters with the Queen. He is already good friends with Jace, so one day Jace shows him around the castle. They stumble upon the girl as she is training on the beach. She does not dance around, her movements are sharp and Cregan can see she would be a deadly opponent. Jace, the big brother that he is teases her, and she returns back just as well. I'm not sure where to go after this, but Cregan and the reader are introduced to one another, and the reader asks Cregan if he could teach her some of the Northern fighting strategies. When they finally do duel, neither holds back - who wins is up to you, but as with every fight scene they do get quite close to one another (heavy breathing while looking at one another of course) a few times. At the end I do imagine them ending up in a shack similar to where Rhaenyra and Daemon were in that scene. It can be after another fight, only that time it becomes something more. Cregan has to go back North, and the girl has her own duty in the war to come, but they do not forget one another.

4. Back to the North and Pagan festivities...if you have watched The Vikings, do you remember this scene?

And if Cregan were to witness it...I do not think he would be shocked, but perhaps if he were in a sort of awe? Or that he felt respect for the woman in front of him and the whole fertility ritual taking place.

I have some more ideas, which I'll type out at some point.

(Sorry for so much personal posting lately, it has been cathartic for me. Please feel free to scroll on by 💜)

Good news: The N.P. was great and all my worrying about not being taken seriously enough/ being brushed off/having to advocate hard for myself was for not. She listened, she sympathized, she understood very keenly where I'm at. We're pursuing multiple options at once and she's very available for any questions.

Not as good news: Endometriosis is now definitely the primary suspect and also can be incredibly hard to diagnose. I have a surgery consult scheduled for 4/16. I'm supposed to go to Japan near the end of May, so I'm a little nervous about how actual surgery (exploratory laparoscopy) is going to have to land timing wise. We're gonna try a progesterone-only BC pill in the meantime. I can't take anything with estrogen (I have migraines with auras) so that does limit the available options. And some folks with endo have multiple surgeries before they find it. If they do find and treat it, it can (and likely will) still reoccur at some point.

And the fertility implications are weighing real heavy on my mind. This is ultimately the result I wanted from the appointment today. I just wish I had a different body. And I've just been making sloppy, little mistakes at work because my mind is just elsewhere and I wanna blanket burrito until life just. Works itself out. 😶

Burleigh County District Judge Bruce Romanick ruled that the state's abortion law violates North Dakota Constitution's due process protections. But the nearest abortion provider is in Minnesota.

A state judge overturned the North Dakota's near-total abortion ban on Thursday, making the procedure legal in the Republican-led state.

Burleigh County District Judge Bruce Romanick ruled that the abortion ban, which went into effect after Roe v. Wade was overturned, violates due process protections under North Dakota's state Constitution.

“The North Dakota Constitution guarantees each individual, including women, the fundamental right to make medical judgments affecting his or her bodily integrity, health and autonomy, in consultation with a chosen health care provider free from government interference," Romanick wrote in the ruling.

“Unborn human life, pre-viability, is not a sufficient justification to interfere with a woman’s fundamental right,” Romanick continued. “Criminalizing pre-viability abortions is not necessary to promote the State’s interests in women’s health and protecting unborn human life.”

Dr. Ana Tobiasz, a maternal-fetal specialist at Sanford Health in Bismarck, said she has contemplated leaving North Dakota because of the state’s abortion ban.

The near-total ban on abortions in the state went into effect in late April 2023. It prohibits all abortions except for when the health of the mother is at risk or in cases of rape or incest, but only within the first six weeks of pregnancy.

The initial language of the law was amended to allow terminations of ectopic pregnancies, where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus and would never lead to a birth.
