Fifteen After Nine, 2020. 24x18in, acrylic and charcoal on heavy paper. The title Fifteen After Nine comes from the time on the clock as I worked on the painting. 2 days in a row when I looked at the time, it happened to be 9:15. I didn’t think much of it until I noticed the horizontal could be seen as hands on a clock in the 9:15 position. For more info on this painting, please DM, thank you. 🔷 #fineart #portlandart #seattleart #losangelesart #chicagoart #nycart #robertmotherwell #franzkline #dekooning #rothko #paulklee #hanzhoffman #helenfrankenthaler #williambaziotes #contemporaryartwork #modernartist #callforart #contemporaryfineart #artcollecting #artsgodz #artprocess #painting #wscranmore #americanartist (at Milwaukie, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck6OyF7vsa7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A) Write a brief statement of what you understand about how FRANZ KLINE - From what I understood Franz Kline was an expressionist who would capture the essence of machinery and architecture through broad, typically black strokes with off-white backgrounds.
B) How does he divide the page. - I have noticed that Franz tends to divide the page in thirds or sometimes in halfs. Usually the white space guides the eye through the composition, but in some cases the dark strokes act as a back drop and white areas as foreground.
C) How is line changing from one stroke to the next. - It appears that Franz mainly uses a steady stroke for thick and dark areas.
D) Is it the same kind of line, thick , bold or thin and light? - Comparing Franz's work, he tends to lean towards broad and bold strokes of black pant.
E) Is space painted first (white), before line (black) or the reverse? - There are some paintings where he paints the background an off-white color then applies broad strokes of black.

This is my attempt at creating Franz Kline art work. I started off by sketching what I wanted on my schedule. I experimented with different shapes to bring out my creation. After I finish painting my black and white background I started painting my schedule work. My first painting was beside on my first sketch which came out exactly as I planned. for my second painting didn’t go exactly as planned. I was going for the inside views of an old camera but instead it looks more like an old movie starting up. Even though painting isn’t my strong suit, this assignment taught me “just to do it” then to thinking about it. It also taught me to plan something before creating it right off the bat.

Art - Franz Kline Franz Kline (May 23, 1910 – May 13, 1962) was an American painter. He is associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1940s and 1950s. Kline, along with other action painters like Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, John Ferren, and Lee Krasner, as well as local poets, dancers, and musicians came to be known as the informal group, the New York School. Although he explored the same innovations to painting as the other artists in this group, Kline's work is distinct in itself and has been revered since the 1950s . . . . “Pareidolia” (2020), 11x14” acrylic on paper, framed. A small works painting. “W.S. Cranmore’s artworks are known for their distinctive geometric patterns, bold lines and borders, and nontraditional composition. At the intersection of Expressionism, Geometric Abstraction and Pop Art, W.S. Cranmore’s artworks meld early modernist with later post-modernist influences. His art invites subjective interpretation, emotional introspection and personal appreciation, telling personal stories and re-imagining memories in a uniquely unconventional way. W.S. Cranmore’s approach to Art is to let the image come to him and for the image to evolve through a completely abstract process – led by emotions and feelings evoked by music.” 🔷 #hanshofmann #franzkline #helenfrankenthaler #joanmitchell #jeanfautrier #cytwombly #dorothyfratt #robertrauschenberg #robertmotherwell #richarddiebenkorn #dekooning #paulklee #pareidolia #arthistory #collector #modernart #galleryart #artnxtlevel #abstract #wscranmore (at Milwaukie, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqJmoxBvBBE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“Indigo Tapestry” 64x47” #mixedmedia on unstretched canvas #tedrandler 2019 I had this small 10x7” drawing and I wanted to work with scaling it somehow. I remember reading about how #franzkline would take his thumbnail sketches and project them on his canvases to create his large compositions. I reinterpreted the projection process by scaling an image of my drawing in photoshop and then playing with some color adjustment. Then I sent my pdf to Adobe Acrobat because the app will tile the large format into a series of tiled 8.5x11 pages. In this case it was 56 pages. I pasted the pages together to create the large single image and then I mounted the paper to lightweight canvas. This was done with layers and layers of matte medium. Once assembled, I could paint on the surface. I like that the image was created by hand then process virtually through technology in photoshop and then return back in hands-on media in the form of the printouts and my painting with actual acrylics. Like a kind of Kintsugi, the paper would tear or wrinkle in the gluing process and because I was thinking it was like a tapestry, I preserved the imperfections in the matte medium—it reads like wrinkle fabric and acts like a kind of drawn texture. I found I was playing with the hues generated by the printed image and the actual paint pigment and at times would forget which was painted and which was printed. #indigo #Kintsugi #malefigure #photoshopart #americanartist #washingtondcartist #lgbtart #queerart #instartist #drawing https://www.instagram.com/p/B32uh1tpxar/?igshid=1efbo1hmlcmt1
