Now I dunno if this is just me, but I experience emotions pretty intensely. Not like "cry at the drop of a hat looking at a hamster" levels of intense but I can pretty easily get carried away when i get swept up in them feels. But I mean I can be listening to Night Shift and feeling the love and sorrow in that song, getting a little teary eyed thinking about the lives of those around me...and then the next song could be Death and Resurrection of a Northern Son and i immediately wanna be in the middle of a viking raid, headbanging and clashing swords, yelling at the top of my lungs. And surprisingly it's not emotionally or mentally taxing, though I suppose it's because I'm used to it by now?

But honestly I just wanted to talk about the gentle songs I like to listen to when life gets to me, and hopefully whomever reads this will find that sonorous tone that can give them hope in these troubling times.

First up is Night Shift by the Commodores. This song is literally nothing but love, and was written to commemorate the passing of Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson. While the song is tragic in content, Dennis Lambert, Walter Orange, and Franne Golde gave it a more celebratory tone. It's just a good song full of love.

Second for me is very subjective, but the track Intro off of HOME's Odyssey album. It's a bit of synthwave, which honestly I'm obsessed with. I grew up on synth sounds, but no one was ever bold enough to do 100% synth soundtracks. Anyway, Intro...to me it reminds me off the dawn of a new day. It sounds bright and hopeful, while also reminding me of the easy days of childhood. It's a little piece of music that reminds me of the old times while giving me the energy to prepare for what the day has.

Three! Float On by Modest Mouse. Unironically. Literally it's all about not stressing about everything. Easy to listen to, easy to sing along to. We've all got enough to worry about day to day, but we shouldn't stress about EVERYTHING. We all gotta learn to chill.

Quatro! This is straight up sad music, but depression is a good sedative. The Epilogue track from Dark Souls 3. This music fucks me up because I was the type of player that dove into the deep lore and...fuck man. I mean the whole game is about the inevitability of the end, how entropy is the end result of life, whether we like it or not. I suppose you could say the story of Dark Souls is the personification of the poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night but taken to an extreme. Not to go into a separate rant about Dark Souls, the Epilogue is almost devastatingly sad to me as it reminds me that the end will come...but at the same time, after the sadness passes, I am reminded of what I have. It is humbling and morbidly beautiful. Or maybe it's my years of depression talking, who knows?

Either which way, if anyone decides to give this a shot; I hope it helps you. If you can, try to get some fresh air, have a walk, get outside. Because while social media is making everything terrifying, honestly? The world is not ending. And there are still plenty of people out there that care. Love and peace, strange sea of friends
