On this day in 1996, ‘Waiting to Exhale: Original Soundtrack Album’ reached Number One on the Billboard 200 chart. Whitney contributed 3 songs to the album: the #1 single “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” and hits “Count On Me” and “Why Does It Hurt So Bad.” Whitney personally selected the artists who appeared on the soundtrack. The movie opened at #1 in North America, paving the way for black ensemble films that followed.
