One of the problems with being both a nerd and someone with a minor special interest in fragrance and perfume is that I put in a casual throwaway mention of someone's cologne and immediately went "wait what could that be" and proceeded to compile a list of options from MY OWN SAMPLE COLLECTION (bar Eau de Audacity which I've smelled but they didn't have a sample of when I went)

Anyway if anyone wants "warm amber" fragrance recs to imagine your character wearing to a gala, here you go, I've added descriptions but they're usually a vanilla, resin, and/or incense base with some kind of spice, tonka, leather or wood note as the focus (though there are a few surprises), and I've linked their Fragrantica pages for more detail! Several of these are cross-recommended for each other, so if you like one on the list it's worth checking out a couple of the others.

The World According to Arthur (my all time favourite, wore this to my wedding reception)

Terrible Teddy (another favourite, amber incense and leather)

Eau de Audacity (bold, orange blossom, frankincense and pepper over vanilla and leather)

Vetiver 46 (woody with strong vetiver and spice notes, the vanilla and amber take a back seat)

Amber Paste [now discontinued] (Musc Rav's sneaky cheaper alternative; opens pine resiny but quickly settles into a gorgeous vanilla tonka blend that lasts AGES)

Musc Ravageur (complex head turner that opens with with lavender, bergamot, then shifts to clove and sandalwood on a vanilla tonka base)

Another product spotlight, this time for our Vander-inspired fragrance products! Scented with oud, tobacco, and leather, this fragrance is evocative of Vander’s bar and home in the Lanes, The Last Drop, filled with bustling customers and the hint of smoke-leaf on the air: aromatic, mellow, and warm.

Something that always struck me with Vander's character is the comparative warmth and distance he has. With him in The Last Drop it feels alive, and a safe place to be. He's a figure of guidance and leadership to Vi, Jinx, Claggor, and Milo, but there's also a feeling of distance between them, evident most of all in Vi's yearning to be a protector, just like he is to the kids and the whole of The Lanes. I wanted to try and reflect that in a certain clarity that's present, even amidst the typically thicker, headier aromas of tobacco and leather, cutting through it to keep the fragrance from feeling overwhelming.

I was just googling around to see if there's any perfumes that smell like artificial cherry bc 1. I've been wanting to be a Perfume Person for a while now. Like get into wearing scents and stuff. & 2. I used my dry shampoo that smells like cherries and I love it so much... Anyways ppl online were saying that if you want artificial cherry smell you're probably better off with body spray, so I looked that up and it's a lot cheaper? So like, jackpot for me! Now I'm contemplating buying some 🍒

Question for you: Do you wear perfumes/etc? And even if not, what's a smell you really like?

i don't wear perfumes or generally use scented body products, i both have shitty sensitive skin and am easily prone to headaches, so i tend to avoid strong scents and skin contact with fragrances when i can because they can be a migraine and/or skin rash trigger for me :( like i'll use a lightly scented deodorant on my underarms but other than that i don't use any products on my skin or clothes or hair or whatever for the purpose of Scent. i'll occasionally light a scented candle in my apartment if like i just took the trash out and it's a little smelly but i don't burn it for very long otherwise i give myself a headache. i've been very slowly burning through an apple scented candle from trader joes for like a year and a half at this point lol

i do enjoy a good scent though...the kind of artificial fragrances added to candles and perfumes and stuff are too strong for me but i love a good natural scent. the inside of a bakery/cafe is a great smell. all that pastry crust and ground coffee. baking smells are almost always amazing tbh just like baking bread or muffins or cookies, top tier scents. warming winter spices like cinnamon and clove are wonderful, and especially cardamom, i love the fragrance of cardamom so much i always throw a few pods into my hot cocoa. and roasting chicken. smells like home!!
