in, i think at least a couple of the save points, FriendProgram says they were built to heal through friendship and. well they’re aplatonic so I want to look at this a second

the love test machine exists and that literally quantifies how much love you have in you so i don’t doubt the old organisms could build a robot that heals through making friends. but do you think 1) FriendProgram’s just been on low health this whole time or 2) would the healing count if just the other person believes they’re friends. either makes sense to me,

1) FriendProgram is constantly referred to as being weak, and Yeah friend programs weren’t built to be strong, Void says they’re still weak themself, but Void is capable of physically fighting And Winning so long as they don’t get hit. it seems to be that friend programs are capable of being strong(they're just Not usually) but they're certainly not Durable. FP doesn’t seem to be strong in either sense, BFP says them breaking her screens hurt themself more than her. FP and Void are both loveless but Void says they Want To Have and Like Having friends. nick says something in one of his logs about ‘it seems the more corrupted Void’s data is the better they are at fighting’ but FP’s data is Also corrupted. I have to wonder if the difference in their health and therefore physical strength is dependent on them wanting or not wanting friends.

also when FP was in automatic mode they started off passing in and out of consciousness Regularly, they were going through whatever little power they had before shutting off again until they actually Rested and woke up in nick's lab, where as Clover didn’t have a problem with this, my guess being they had enough leftover power to not have to shut off over and over to begin with

2) if healing works when just the the other person believes they’re friends, then that also makes sense to me, with friend programs' designed purpose being more sinister

also i don't have a conclusive point on this one bc I think I'd have to watch through the game again to make sure, but iirc in like act 1 when you're just encountering the experiments it says "you made a new friend" but I think once you have Waterbottle with you and you're encountering other programs it says "you made a new friend and ally" and I wonder if it's meant to be like, a friend to Waterbottle but an ally to FriendProgram. FP preferring the company of animals bc they're more free to be themself I can see them being more okay with the experiments thinking they're friends and saying so, but not other programs, using the ambiguity of "friend and ally" (even if that presumably isn't something being said out loud) ☝️I could be misreading the intention here however and "friend (and ally)" Is supposed to be in regards to just FP and that'd feed into my second point listed above about 'just the other person would have to think they're friends for healing to work'

anyway I think it’d be neat if post-game FP was looking into getting a patch for their system so they can heal though regular means, if that’d be something possible for them <:]

While Marcy miraculously staying in LA after the events of Amphibia """misses the point""" and """ruins the story""", my most self indulgent side NEEDS to see these three together in Highschool. I need Sasha being a bit of a mean girl especially to people who look at her girls weird. Yes she HAS spread people's secrets yes she HAS destroyed the self-esteem of countless boys yes she HAS gotten half the cheerleading squad kicked out while jumping through all the moral loopholes imaginable to be juuust on the side of chaotic good and not chaotic neutral. All because they said something mean about the time Marcy freaked out like a baby over a blackout, or because they mocked the food Anne brought from home. Need Anne being surprisingly popular, a big sports girly, seeing her two girls cheering for her during her games - one of them as an actual cheerleader, the other with big signs and maybe a trumpet or something. Need Marcy with her weak nerdy legs (and lingering nerve damage oops) asking Sasha for piggyback rides on the way home, discussing anime and FPS videogames with her while Anne carries her backpack, phone in her free hand, waiting for those two to be distracted so she can snap a picture.

I want them to be so uncommonly affectionate with each other in school, that everyone finds them kinda weird but their families have given very explicit Do Not Separate orders so the teachers let them be. They've been through a lot. Doesn't stop the cheerleading squad laughing at Sasha and questioning how come she'd rather hang out with her two kindergarden friends - one being cringe and nerdy and the other being dumber than a bag of rocks - instead of dating any of the cute boys that always ask her out, or how come she always cancels plans on them as soon as one of her girls calls. Sasha will make sure to teach them not to question her in the future.

The teachers quickly realize Marcy's potential but also notice she only hangs out with two girls who are pretty lazy and are barely passing their classes, and they wonder if they're using her to get good grades. Those two do seem to fit the stereotype of the jock and the mean girl taking a nerd under their wing to make them do their homework. Marcy does help them study, but she doesn't lose sleep over it - she knows they're smart and they'll figure it out, she's just there for a little encouragement. They just haven't seen the care and concern with which they hold her when her chest starts burning all of a sudden, how they race after her to the bathroom whenever she's feeling unwell, how protectively they cuddle her at sleepovers.

Anne has her own group of jock friends separate from Marcy and Sasha, and they get along fine, but they're beginning to think it's odd that she turns down every boy that asks her out, while lighting up like a flower in the sun whenever she gets a call from one of her girls. They ask her about it at one point, and all she says is "I don't really think I want a boyfriend. These two already take enough of my time", with a fond smile and a tender tone of voice that might make you think there's more to it if you had any idea of the concept of consensual non-monogamy, or lesbians. But you're a teenage boy so what you think is more along the lines of "wow they seem like very good friends".

thinking more about fp as a stat. Yes, it applies to enemies as a way to spare, but it likely will apply to party members as well as a modifier or stat.

Party Members have 3 main stats (for now. I may or may not add more (also excluding xp)): HP, Mana (for spells), and FP. The best way I can explain it with is with examples first so uh

Example 1: Silly would likely have her FP as 0 or maybe even in the negatives (-4 or -3). Zero is just the base, doesn’t do anything, but negative FP will have certain things happen. Silly’s naturally lowered FP will give them an effect like Weakness I (knees begone) or Fear I (half your spells and actions begone) for one turn before aer FP goes back to 0 and they lose the debuffs.

Example 2: I feel like Caretale would have a high FP stat. 5 at least maybe 10 at most but ido. I’d go with 5 or 4. Her high FP gives her small buffs at the beginning of the battle like Determined II (they are NOT gonna miscast chat trust) or Luck I (Joyous. More FP for sparing and more XP).

The way I’m thinking of this is that FP 1-9 would give buffs, the buffs being stronger the more FP you have, and if you have 10 FP, it’ll count as 1 point for the spare/FP meter or for a friendship spell. Pattern repeats with 11-19 being buffs, 20 being another point, 21-29 being buffs, and so on. Same goes for negatives but with debuffs and instead of gaining a friendship point, you lose one and/or anger the enemy.

Of course, the FP can be raised or lowered (albeit temporarily for only one or a few turns) with effects, potions, or attacks. I like the idea and might have cooked idk, but I’m a little iffy about it. I’m pretty sure there’s more than one reason why I’m unsure about the idea, but the only one I can decipher so far in my head is that more than 15 or less than -15 FP would make me shrivel like a raisin.

This post is long overdue but I finally willed myself to write a university essay-long analysis no one asked for.

Why I think Silco Had Been Jinx's Favorite Person (and Where Does Vi Stand in the Picture)

Okay, here goes. This is just a blah about me seeing Jinx as a character with BPD (borderline personality disorder) and not at all an accurate diagnosis. If you do not see her this way, please keep scrolling.

BPD is often developed among people who are emotionally sensitive, lived or living in an environment that lacks resources for emotional growth, neglected, abandoned, and/or heavily traumatized. Jinx kind of fit all the categories.

She is very much sensitive about criticisms due to her need to contribute, belong, and live up to Vi's legacy. She also lost her parents in her formative years, grew up in the Undercity where they live off scraps, and as Vi and Vander said "everyone has to earn their place". Vander is a solo parent to four children, a bar keeper, and a pillar of peace. He did not have enough time to oversee each of his children that he would often remind Vi to take care of Powder, and Vi is on her teenage, rebellious years from the time their parents died to the end of Act 1. Although she talked to her sister a lot, it can only do so much to stop the cracking.

Vi, I believe, is initially Jinx's favorite person. It is her she didn't want to disappoint. She becomes ready whenever Vi said she is. She gets upset when Vi (as she presumes) says bad things about her. When Vi left her after the incident, Powder resorted to splitting. She had to break down her idealization of Vi to cope with the idea that she is being abandoned. She had to villainize Vi (her saying "she left me, she's not my sister anymore") to get out of that painful situation. We can see after the time skip that she's still looking for Vi even when she said those line years ago, and she still kept the smoke signal. This is a common nuance for people with BPD, most would cope through splitting but would be able to rationalize the situation once the episode is over, and they would go back to idealizing their FPs.

When Vi did not come back, Silco took over the role, and him being Powder/Jinx's new FP is inevitable. For one, Silco is there for her during her worst day. The father-daughter bond they shared is what Jinx needed in the absence of her OG and adoptive family (she's just 10 or 12 back then, with very vulnerable emotions at that). Silco had also been very supportive of her, be it in her passion for tinkering weapons to her doodles and childishness. Manipulation or not, he provided what Powder had been asking from the people she loved for a long time: validation. Okay, Vi gave her validations, but for people with BPD, the need for validation is never-ending, plus they didn't part ways in good terms. Silco, whether due to manipulation or affinity to her situation, had always validated Jinx.

This is the reason why I believed Jinx when she said Silco only saw her blubbering twice. For people with BPD, they would twist and bend their whole persona to please their favorite persons. At one point, Jinx feared that Silco would see her as weak. She resorted to a very risky, very uncalled for, mission just to reclaim his affirmation which she 'perceived' she lost.

Since Silco is an FP for her, Jinx often act childish around him, often invading his personal space. This can be viewed as age regression, another commonality among people with BPD. In those moments, she's going back to being a child.

So why would Jinx harm him, call him a liar, and kidnap him? Well, splitting as well, unfortunately. She had always saw him as this father figure who encourages her, shields her from 'bullies'/critics, and allows her to be who she needed to be. However, when Vi returned, Jinx immediately thought that Silco lied to her about her sister's death, because Vi is also an FP (who she desperately wanted to be with again). This might be how the whole reasoning worked on her mind: Vi is alive > but he told me my sister is dead > he had all the reasons to hide that from me > he killed Vander > he most likely know Vi is alive, Marcus works for him > he is a liar. So you see, the black side wins in her seeing things in black and white.

Another worst manifestation of splitting is what Jinx understood from what she overheard at Vander's statue. It may be confusing how she thought Silco would betray her when he clearly said he is conflicted and that he finally understood what fatherhood did to Vander. However, during a BPD episode, everything that's been said can be taken as a threat. He could flat out say he would not trade her for his dreams and she would still misinterpret it as he would give her up. That's unfortunately, how BPD makes life miserable.

Moreover, Vi is back. Jinx wanted to reunite with her more than anything. So it would be easier to make Silco the villain so she would not feel bad about choosing Vi over him. She's not even really considering Silco's words at the tea party. Every word that gets to her is from Vi.

When Silco died, and it was made clear Vi didn't choose her (as she is). All her idealizations of Vi turned black, again. She suddenly gave up on her desperation to be chosen. At that point, she just wanted Vi to be 'hurt as she hurt her that day' (this is from the song played during that scene).

In conclusion, both Vi and Silco are Jinx's favorite persons, in different timelines and at some point, at the same time. Also, BPD sucks.

How did humpter survive the rot? (If this has been previously discussed I am sorry-)

dw! i have mentioned it a few months ago in a previous post but i can elaborate on it here cuz some of it is probably outdated

so before hunter reaches the fp/lttm facility, the rot in her back moves over to her tail where her immune system is weaker so it has an easier time flowering. she uses bandages to hide the cysts from arti so that she doesnt suspect anything, but when they reach pebbles and he says out loud that hunter is running out of cycles, thats when arti starts to panic.

they spend the next cycles trying to find a solution, coming up unsuccessful each time. at some point during that process, hunter proposes a DIY amputation with an explosive of some kind (due to the rot's explosion weakness), but arti is desperate to find another way because she doesnt want to harm her.

on the night of cycle 0, hunter is basically resigned to her fate. neither of them are sure that she'll be alive the next morning, so thats when they confess to each other. then, sensing no other way, arti goes through with hunter's plan and blows her tail off with an explosive spear. hunter faints after the impact, and arti is left assuming that she didnt make it.

then the next morning, arti leaves their den to get hunter a cherrybomb (ill elaborate on this in another post), intending to carry her to depths and leave her with the karma guardians, and comes back to find her struggling to sit up but awake and successfully cured (im retconning that kiss art i did a while ago to be here instead of immediately after the explosion)

this is why her tail is mangled and cut short in my regular design :3

I'm assuming you're asking about characterization and narrative, instead of gameplay / world design, so I'll focus on that. on a meta level, I love the fact that downpour exists as officially published fanfiction / an official AU. It's really inspirational tbh, and it makes me feel better about making fanworks

for actual game stuff , I'll start with Spearmaster.

I like that SRS forms an attachment to their messenger, especially since they initially seemed repulsed by it. It's more interesting that they didn't immediately bond, as it creates some internal conflicts (guilt) within SRS. I also like that NSH warns them not to get too attached before it returns; it's a reasonable suggestion and may be influenced by their current loss. (of LTTM)

I could nitpick a lot here but I'm going to try and omit that for the sake of brevity and efficiency. (general statement about the ramble)

I like that NSH gets upset and stops talking to SRS for a little while, and that SRS becomes a bit desperate and anxious. It humanizes both of them. I also like that NSH says something irrational and emotional about suns sending their messenger to the wrong person, and that they immediately reflect and retract their statement. They seem emotionally mature here. I also like that SRS's question (would that have helped?) can be interpreted in multiple ways; perhaps it's a genuine inquiry out of desperation, or perhaps it's a more snide remark to ground their friend. Perhaps both. It's neat, I think.

I like NSH's broadcast to FP. I think the wording could be stronger, but it's still convincing to me. I can feel the emotion here. I can hear NSH's voice as he speaks these words in his mind. And I like that NSH asks FP to reflect upon his actions, rather than insulting him or threatening him. Again, you can interpret in multiple ways, and it serves multiple purposes. Self-reflection seems to be a weak point for DP Pebbles, especially with all of the shame. So, this remark serves as Genuine Advice, but it can also serve as... a Curse of sorts? Foreshadowing? That he must overcome this weakness of his, and that he cannot run from it forever. yay

I like Moon's final broadcast. I'm glad she got to have a moment like this, and it's fun to voice this one, too. It's sweet, and it says something about her that she wanted her final broadcast to be uplifting and warm. She wanted people to remember her and smile...

This broadcast between SI and WO may actually be my favorite, though. (of sm broadcasts I mean) I'm a huge bennie (ancient) fan, so hearing more about them is awesome. I like that different Cities had different cultures and politics, different rituals and behaviors, and (implied) different "eras" over time... I enjoy that this characterizes the bennies as diverse and fascinating, and that different Iterators had different relationships with their citizens. There's a lot to chew on here without too much to wade through, and I wish we had more broadcasts like these. I love it. <3

I like the mass rarefaction cell. I like the heart symbolism around it a lot; as someone with heart issues, it makes me happy to relate to a fictional character with them, even abstractly.

I like how it ties things into a neat little ring; FP kills moon, but he also gives her life. It's very powerful, at least conceptually. I just wish that when he gave her his physical heart, he gave her his metaphorical heart alongside it. She just wanted to speak with him one last time, and it sucks that's unfulfilled. But I appreciate the potential, at least. And I do love a reconciliation. I'm glad they made up.

also mass rarefaction cells are fun and useful! gotten a lot out of them, I think! yay.

I also like some of moon's dialogue in riv campaign and that she checks her unread messages.

You can beat your ass he’s surviving the blast and launching a RPG right back at ‘em.

The only time he's incapacitated is when someone aims bugs spray at him or simply a shower with some soap.

(Is he stinky? No, he takes water bathes and uses dry shampoo- but there are definitely some days where they have to force him to shower and it just makes him faint for a couple of hours.)

Soap has gotta have something related to speed! I mean, that is how he originally got his moniker right? So quick and clean to clear out a place, then he's a quickly out in a second.

So think of the times when he's been the player's FPS--

I think he would have something along the lines of 'accelerated movement and perception.' Meaning, he can manually activate those time slowing moments when you bomb open a room (back in the original MW series)

Which is how I'd like to think that's how he got his name in this AU!

Of course, he has to train how long he can maintain this state both mentally and physically as both aspects of body gets severely affected with drawbacks as his body doesn't catch up or sync with his abilities.

At the beginning, he could hold it for 5 seconds, from when he enters the room to accurately shooting out all of the enemies weak points and clearing out a room.

Its more like, he gets affected by his powers more intrinsically compared to it being effective extrinsically on his environment.

But of course, he uses this to mess with people all the time-- especially with his other sargents in the force, or in training with the other soldiers under him.

It helps people keep them on their toes and think quite ahead of them in a way that it has to be instinctual.

"Just be like LT," he says, "he can predict my movements without even blinkin' a wee lash at me."

He whines as he proceeds to sneak onto Ghost who just ignores him as he falls through his form.

Yes, Ghost definitely has 'phasing' related abilities that makes him a good match with Soap because he has to manually activate the abilities. It's not like its unconsciously activated all the time, where he just phases through everything (imagine trying to sleep and then you're suddenly 6ft under lmao- he wouldn't mind that though) or does it get activate throughout his entire body. That's a level he hasn't quite reached yet but doesn't desire it either.)

It only activated at will and at a certain are for a certain amount of time, just like Soap.

So, in practice when trading blows, its always a game of "what if?" with them.

A will-he-won't-he dilemma that just makes the dynamic much more fun!

Also, further down the line, I don't think evolving these powers are good either; for example, Ghost could use his phasing powers and inflict it on a bullet and then shoot said bullet- time it in a way that, before it hits its target, it can pass through walls and kill said person.

Yeah, that seems too OP and broken.

Gaz! I would like to think that he has camouflaging abilities, not like- straight up invisibility, you can still see him but he's very well-hidden in his environment.

From the campaigns I've watched so far with him being one of the playable characters again as the player, he seems like an adaptable to any situation type of guy.

So, I think this fits him best!

He definitely excels during stealth missions where he gets the fun off of sneaking in as one of the enemies but also thrives in the chaos of a battle per se, where he can easily disrupt enemy lines and trust by acting as one of them and creating a "betrayal" of sorts.

A mind game which he easily plays every single time.

At this point, he's used to it-- especially when he's dealing with Soap and LT, who are the duo to beat when it comes to their sparring sessions.

Camouflage all he likes, he still has to gain the upper hand by reading them before he gets read like an open book.

Captain Price, the man, the myth, the legend himself has gotta have something unique. Although the usual Captain America powers lines up to him and his character but I thought of something more interesting- in tribute to his intelligence and strategic planning as the head of the task force.

Something along the lines of 'mental projection,' and I know it sounds general so let's break it down~!

What I was imagining with this power is that he's able to be like a real life hologram, where he can project the things he's thinking of in the real world, but all of it is still imaginary.

For example, he can replicate a gun and use it to shoot somebody, but it won't kill and that person who got shot will notice immediately.

Although, a unique thing to Price's ability (once it further gets trained and developed) it can be activated at multiple targets at once.

So, even though he shot a fake gun, Price can manipulate into their "reality" that they did get shot by the "gun" he had in his hand.

Yes, this takes great effort in his part because he has to make it convincing enough and anything half-assed would look shoddy and unbelievable.

So, he keeps this power hidden, only using it at opportune times with little to no explanations-- like a secret weapon, an ace hidden up his sleeve, waiting to be used only when it becomes a last resort to.

More than anyone, he tops the mind games everyone plays with each other to get the most out of their ability as much as possible.

(Even the task force members don't know the extent of Price's powers- hence the great importance of keeping it lowkey and behind close doors for Price.)

Alex (another unofficial member in my hc) is definitely something related to being a sharpshooter-- just like one of the last mission in the first MW!

Its somewhat kind of like energy manipulation, where the further that he is-- the stronger the impact of his bullets are, per se (if he infuses it with his powers.)

One of the downsides is that, he can't just shoot out straight off energy-- it HAS to infuses something. He can't alter its state but more often like granting it a special ability for a limited time to enhance it, but at the same time- is dependent on how long he infuses it for.

No, he does not have a stash of infused bullets- it wears off over time.

Imagine him sparring against Soap, and in the time he's dodging and swearing through Soap's endless barrel of hits-- he's charging up his knee pad; that when the opportune time comes, he's stuffed it with so much energy that it makes Soap flying off.

So, it kind of makes it more of a time-dependent ability than a distance-dependent one (but he likes to confuse and confound people like the captain.)

As for the other characters in the series, I'm gonna do a quick list with little explanations and divulge 'em more in a later post (its still raw, i need a lil more cooking time ajsdhkjsdf) Ending note, most of the powers have equal conditions of activation, drawbacks, and counterbalances in hopes that it doesn't make it overpowering and actually seem to be more like an ability that can be overcame if strategized against properly. (Fun side note: I'm an OW player so I've seen my fair share of disasters when it comes to this, so of course I know how bad it can get lmao). I also want it to be a point that, when I come to writing this out in the plot of the campaign/story mode of the games, its still in tune with it but a little more wacky and kind of more challenging to overcome.

The Mishandling of LO’s S3 Mi(n)season Hiatus - Part 3 1/2

Here we go, Part 3 of my analysis of the current FP episodes - a three-parter episode set leading up to the midseason finale of LO.

Truth is, I had actually forgotten a lot of the weird (and very stupid) shit that happened in this episode, that I thought Episodes 251 and 252 had already offered up the worst that this three parter set could dish out. Boy, was I wrong, because when I went back to check out Episode 253, I was reminded of a reality that my brain had wiped out in an attempt to protect my withering psyche-

I also forgot just how long this episode is. It's so long that I frankly can't even fit it all into this post, so this is gonna be part 3 1/2.

Anyways, let's just get on with it. This is the final stop on our trip into absolute nonsense.

CAUTION: THIS IS PART 3 OF A 3 PART SERIES IN WHICH I WILL BE SPOILING MUCH OF EPISODES 251-253. THIS WILL BE A LONG POST. BRACE YOURSELF.

Well, it's the midseason finale, and what better way to open it up than with the final title card-

Typo and all. It wouldn't be an LO episode without one. Granted, IIRC this typo has been edited out, but the version of the screenshots I have from it feature it in all its original unedited glory. So enjoy that.

And yes, just like the last two times, the title itself only applies to the final cliffhanger, which is an absolute doozy especially for those who were there to experience it in real time.

This is already a bit of a wild opening compared to the last two episodes, but it's quickly revealed that this is laying the foundation for the prophecy that Psyche gave to Apollo back in Episode 252. In true LO fashion, the story can't actually be linear in any regard, we're always segmented from pieces of information at a time. Loyal fans will call this a "writing style", I call it Rachel just trying to get another 70 cents out of me.

That said, I will say the art here is fairly decent, but I think that just goes to show that LO's one of worst features these days - ironically enough - is its coloring. What began as its strongest feature has now become one of its biggest weaknesses due to the sheer laziness in its rendering and the colors become more and more saturated into the grotesque over time. So at this point, you pretty much have to rob these characters of their colors to make them look decent, and of course at that point it just further highlights Rachel's same-face problems. She definitely tried to make them look distinguishable here, at least, with Hestia and Poseidon being the most unique.

Now, this isn't the first time that we've heard of this herb being referenced - it was stated by Hades that Hera was the one to originally poison Kronos with the herb after gaining his trust - but to see it suddenly just pop up and play a role again out of nowhere already gives me a bad feeling in my stomach. It feels like yet another plot device - especially when presented in this type of format - that Rachel is suddenly using to try and seem "unique" in her writing, much like the strange narration we got back during the "Run For Your Life" sequence. It's just once again LO lacking any specific identity, it's always trying to be a million other things at once.

I will say, much of this in and of itself is panel filler. Why? Because the location of the herb doesn't matter. You'll see what I mean in a moment, but the mentioning of Anthedon plays no role here, it's just yet another obligatory "see, I know how to Google things!" lip service moment from Rachel "self-proclaimed folklorist" Smythe.

Anyways, Eros is perplexed by this but Psyche immediately catches on, knowing right away that Apollo is going for Zeus. And this is where we get yet another one of the dumbest sequences in this comic.

(see what I mean that the location of the herb doesn't matter? Because Apollo already got it and laced it into the cupcake).

Now, first of all, the fact that Eros and Psyche believe Kassandra's prophecy is already hilarious in and of itself, because ... well, because it literally defeats the point of her establishing it as a curse in the previous episode. Unless it only works on mortals? It never stated as such, so we literally just have to go with it and pretend not to notice that.

But most of all, of course LO had to play this off as some joke. Like, "hahaha how awkward! I've already eaten the cupcake!" and he still doesn't seem to really be in shock. Zeus has seen what this herb has done to gods before him, and yet his reaction to this is akin to a dad getting upset that he stepped LEGO's that he asked his kid 20 times to pick up off the floor. The whole "record scratch" style formatting of this followed by Zeus' lack of reaction just really makes me not care about any of this, because clearly the story doesn't care either.

But we don't see who he makes these calls to because the comic, of course, can't spend any longer than 10 panels on a single scene, so we cut to Hades and Persephone.

Again, I don't know what the point was of having Hera relay this information to Persephone for her to relay to Hades, aside from the fact that Rachel needed to act smart with Therapy Speak that didn't even apply to Hera's situation (as we talked about in the last part). They gotta make Persephone the center of everyone's world though, so it's Persephone who's delivering this info and trying to come up with the solution.

Hades, though, wants to focus on his wife's birthday the commemoration of spring.

SIR. THE WOMAN YOU WERE IN AN AFFAIR WITH SINCE BEFORE YOUR WIFE WAS BORN IS CURRENTLY GRAPPLING WITH YOUR FATHER WHO ABUSED HER AND IS NOW HAUNTING HER. THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR FLUFFY ROMANCE TIME. THERE IS A CHILD BEING HELD CAPTIVE IN TARTARUS AND LITERALLY NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE.

Anyways, apparently (for some reason) Hades is the one who has to go meet Demeter out front. Even though Hades has literally NOTHING to do with this ceremony, it's not his domain, but Persephone literally says "yep, that's correct" when he asks if he needs to go out to meet Demeter.

This just feels like such a pointless conversation and I don't get what the point of this exact exchange is. Again, this isn't Hades' domain, so I don't see why he needs to be the one to go meet with Demeter.

But then, of course, to make matters worse, this man has the absolute audacity to pretend like he's never done anything wrong to Demeter. As if she should be obligated to be cool with sharing a bench with this man who literally terrorized her for years and then essentially groomed her daughter.

I hate him so fucking much and I can't believe we're supposed to be rooting for him. He has not undergone ANY of the character development necessary for me to want to care about him.

Anyways, Hades has a seat with Demeter, and the conversation is very brief before Hades says that he has a gift for her. And what is it, exactly?

Oh great, Hades. Sure wish you would have had this consideration hundreds of years ago. I fail to see what good this does for her now because it doesn't change the fact that he still cost her the role of Queen of the Mortal Realm and treated her like shit for hundreds of years. This comes across as such a shallow and empty "apology" because it's barely even a "gift", rather something she was OWED back then that he didn't want to hand over for his own selfish reasons. He still comes out the winner here because he's gotten to spend thousands of years being a rich slave-driving oligarch while Demeter has had to maintain the Mortal Realm on her own even without the glory of having a title.

I especially detest this "twist" because it's less of a twist and Rachel finally accepting the fact she couldn't come up with anything better than what her fans had to come up with for her. If this had been the fact the whole time, we would have seen it established back when we first got those flashbacks showing Hades being a total prick to her over the volcanoes. Instead, Rachel dragged it out for weeks and weeks until finally dumping this "twist" that her fans had been talking about all that time. This is yet another one of those "Rachel used her fanbase to come up with her ideas" moments. I know that that seems a little mean and presumptuous, but the fact of the matter is that the writing in this story is such an absolute mess that you just know Rachel's writing by the seat of her pants and has to rely on her audience's headcanons to actually fill in the gaps of her story. Most of the time when people commend her for the "great storytelling" in LO, what they're referring to are things they came up with entirely on their own because of how easy it is to just make assumptions about LO's storyline. Rachel benefits off the story being as vague as possible because then her fanbase will fill in the gaps with their own assumptions and give her all the credit for an idea they came up with.

By the way, to the "self-proclaimed folklorist" who wrote this, the volcanoes were really just entrances into the Underworld. Hades did not own them. They were owned by Hephaestus. And I would argue that the volcanoes were only seen as "entrances" into the Underworld because, fun fact - if you jump into a volcano, you die!

Hades frames his reasoning as feeling like Demeter was pushing him out of the Mortal Realm, but this makes no sense because none of that is on her. He claims that he felt like an "outsider" but the reality is that he made himself that way. He resigned himself to being King of the Underworld, he ate the pomegranate and made the deal with Erebus, and even he stated that he could still actually leave the Underworld, just not for long periods of time. So he was the only one keeping himself away from the Mortal Realm, not Demeter. We even see that in the VHS tape flashbacks where Hades stumbles onto Demeter's property and she lets him sleep it off in her home. So this whole sob story about how he felt "pushed out" by Demeter is such a bad take from someone who's routinely known to make himself out to be the victim. Because Hades can't have an actual reputation for a reason, no, this is a "retelling" told by someone who got all their Greek myth info off Tumblr circa 2016 and the front page of Google, so Hades has to be the misunderstood uwu sad underdog. Even though he routinely does things that reinforce the reputation he has within the comic, like being a slave driver, abusing lower class nymphs, and grooming teenagers.

Minthe showing up for a split second in the background is the best this comic has been since S2. We stan our girl Minthe, fucking run girl, do what Persephone couldn't do. She's the real hero of this story (｡･∀･)ﾉﾞ

And honestly, I'm sorry, but Demeter really SHOULDN'T be taking the high ground on this. She has more than enough reason to be upset. For a comic that tries to celebrate feminism and holding abusive men accountable, it sure is willing to make the women - often victims of the men - the real villains who have to "do better". Except for Persephone of course. Persephone is married into the system now, she doesn't have to "do better", she's a "boss babe" for being abusive and petty and undeserving of her status because she's the self-insert Y/N character.

So the ceremony for commencing Spring begins. I gotta say, for the final major scene of the mi(n)season finale, the art is severely underwhelming. You can really tell the difference between S3 and S1 art here, there's barely anything extra done to make this scene even half as impactful as the most basic of scenes from S1.

Like, it's fine, but it still feels so half-baked and rushed to attempt to replicate the kind of art that's been gone from the series for years now. The full sequence itself is actually quite lengthy, with a lot of nymph hands just moving around and playing instruments, but it's about as bland as any other panel, so it makes the sequence itself feel dragged out and boring.

This is about as pretty as the sequence gets and it's still not even as good as the original Dread Queen transformation. There's barely any rendering in the skin, and they couldn't even be bothered to make the hands look normal. It's like it's trying so hard to be "original LO" but is fundamentally missing the point of what made the original LO so captivating.

But oh noooo, looks like Persephone did a bad!

Are they actually gonna give her some kind of flaw? Are we gonna FINALLY gonna find out what she traded to Erebus?

No. We're just gonna make her the cause of winter.

Spaghettios.

And that's where I'm leaving this review for now because, as mentioned in the beginning, this episode is a LOT longer than I remember it being. There's still a whole ass segment with Apollo that we need to cover and I don't want to leave it out but I also don't want to do it entirely in text format and I've hit that pesky image limit. So I'll be posting that second part as soon as I can!

That said, I really can't stand this "subversion" by making Persephone the reason for winter.

First of all, because this is a common problem in a lot of H x P "retellings", as many of them fundamentally miss the point of why Persephone is the "Goddess of Spring".

Persephone was not born the "Goddess of Spring". She was born Kore (Κόρη), a maiden born from Demeter. It wasn't until after she was taken by Hades that Demeter, in her grief, took away the harvest and created winter. It was the return of Persephone every six months that brought about the spring, hence, she earned the name, "Goddess of Spring". What these retellings COMPLETELY MISUNDERSTAND is that the gods aren't 'born' with their titles, they're granted these titles by the mortals who comprehend them and write of them as harbingers of their respective elements, stories, and messages. Zeus wasn't "born" the God of the Sky and Heavens, he was granted that title after he overthrew Kronos and took the Heavens for himself. Hades wasn't "born" the God of the Underworld and the Dead, he was granted that title after he became the ruler of the domain of death.

Where these retellings really fuck up is constantly trying to "subvert" the H x P myth in an attempt to romanticize it, thus undoing the point of why Persephone is called "The Goddess of Spring". A Touch of Darkness also made this mistake by putting a "twist" on Persephone's character by having her start out as someone who couldn't make things grow. But if she sucks at making things grow, then why is she still referred to as The Goddess of Spring? In LO, Hades is referred to as "Grandpa Winter" and the seasons already seem to exist as we saw in this episode through the ceremony, so why has she been called "The Goddess of Spring" this whole time?

But I also can't stand this "subversion" because it fundamentally misunderstands the very myth it's trying to "retell". By giving Persephone the "curse" of creating winter, it further robs Demeter of her own agency in this story, more than it already has. It wasn't enough to make Demeter a helicopter mom, it wasn't enough to drive an actual rift between her and her daughter, they had to take away Demeter's entire role in the story and the creation of the seasons and give it to Persephone.

And this is, surprisingly enough, NOT the first time the comic has done this. There are many traits associated with different gods that have been given to Persephone and Hades. The volcanoes belong to Hades rather than Hephaestus, Persephone is "more beautiful than Aphrodite", Thanatos' and Psyche's butterfly symbolism is given to both Hades and Persephone, Aphrodite's symbolism of roses is given to Persephone, the list goes on. Every single plotline has to involve Persephone as the hero, and every single attribute that's commonly associated with other gods has to be granted to H x P in some way to make them better and more interesting than every other cast member in the comic, and yet they still come across as vapid and boring protagonists with nothing to show for themselves.

So to give the ONE thing from the source material that made LO what it is, it comes across as so unbearably cruel.

But then again, we should have seen this coming. After all, Rachel does not cite this as a retelling of The Hymn to Demeter. She simply refers to it as its more unofficial name: The Taking of Persephone.

Look, I get it, the story is meant to be told from Persephone's POV (or at least through the lens of her being the main character) so I can understand why Rachel may have chosen to reword this to make it more clear. But it's really depressing that she went to such an extent with making it about Persephone that she had to rob one of the most integral character of her moment and retribution. Especially when one of the only books in her cited "research" that's primarily about Persephone is, shocked, The Hymn to Demeter, which is listed at the very bottom of every "research" list you can find in LO's history.

LO should have just stayed as self-indulgent fluff. This isn't "subversion", this isn't a "twist", it's just yet another item on the list of making Persephone the most Important One of all. Even when it attempts to be a 'flaw', it fails tremendously by acting as yet another aspect of her being a Mary Sue, because her 'flaw' has come at the cost of another character's story, identity, and strengths. What was originally a tale of grief, retribution, and standing up against a patriarchal system, has now been warped into a consequence of a muddied plot that doesn't have anywhere left to go. For a story that claims to be "feminist", it has ironically missed the original point of its source material entirely, and completely robbed itself of the feminine strength it could have had if it hadn't tried to be "subversive".

I don't really have anything much more to say than that. I could leave it here for good, but we do still have that extra segment to talk about that covers the actual final cliffhanger in this episode, so... we'll see you on the other side.

Hello, I’m at the end of Sorry We’re Closed. I’ve been loving this game and I was so happy to see that you included accessibility options, especially the infinite health item. I’m not usually able to finish horror/FPS games myself because my reflexes aren’t great.

I was able to make it through almost the whole game because of this but I’m stuck on the sequence with the very long hallway and the spiked elevator. I’ve tried so many times and I’m frustrated and heartbroken because I’m so close to the end and I love this game a lot. I know what I have to do but I can’t seem to make my hands do it in time.

Just wanted to give some feedback because I really appreciate the accessibility options you implemented and I wish I was able to finish the game.

Hey there! Glad you liked the game so far! This is a particular area we are looking to rebalance, as it is a chokehold point for players in general, as we've found. So there will be some adjustments to this room to make the difficulty spike less intense. Your tender hand on his face stuns him. But your lips to his cheek make his knees weak. He hand steadies itself on your waist and his face burns in a blush that has you giggling.

To spare himself the embarrassment of his own fluster, Vinicio brings you down to sit upon the tablecloth. You behold the view of the hilltop overseeing the town as you snuggle into his cold arms.

"Who knew you could be so romantic. . ." He shoots you a look at your light tease and cups your chin between his thumb and index. So that he might ghost a kiss to your lips.

"Only the best for you." With a deep, content sigh, his forehead leans into yours, with forest eyes hung lazily. "Happy valentine's day, cara mia."

also carlos was really good today as well. great start and overall pace from him to get to p5!

Never doubt Charles' ability to drive a car to a podium. If there is even a chance he will do it.

Ferrari race strategy has been solid this year. Strategy hasn't been the weak point, I don't know where people are getting this. A few non-optimal strategy calls do not make this season a clown show and for the most part the season has seen some of the best strategy we've had from Ferrari in literal years. So no surprises there. Ferrari have been on it with the undercuts so I knew they could do it.

And the car was where it's been the last 2 races roughly. And this also shows how strategy and the driver can make up for non-ideal pace. People were telling me I was too optimistic saying a podium was possible, but with the right undercuts and Charles in the car it absolutely was.

The SF-24 current pace has been very subjective, and I think that the team and media are making it sound way worse than it is. Fred is right when he points out that there is more potential there. It's frustrating when they can't find it, but when they do it at least remind people that the car is not the tractor every one like claiming it is.

So to answer your question of how? This has been closer to what they've been doing most of the year than anything else.

Carlos made up great places. I think he lost a lot of practice with some of this issues his car was having in the FP sessions and that made his quali not great, but he found the pace for Sunday!

P3-P5 was my prediction and well

Some thoughts about Pathologic 3 Quarantine.

I... didn't really like Pathologic 3 Quarantine. It's mainly because of the disgusting optimization (yes, even worse than Pathologic 2), where you twitch sliders and graphics parameter values, but nothing changes globally: 5 FPS on medium textures and 7 on very low ones. It gets to the point where you play with a picture on the level (or even worse) of an extremely mediocre mobile horror straight out of 2010s, glued together shittily on Unity, and at the same time everything still looks like a goddamn slideshow. Ngl, playing like this is physically painful. I even felt sensorily overloaded at some point of playthrough due to the very poor picture aligned with very low frame rate. Also, in many segments of the game it felt like I was playing Silent Hill instead of Pathologic, it was so bad to see more than a few steps away. I don't know if there should be fog there or if it's just me.

I know that it could be a weak computer (and I really do have a brick, far from the most powerful device, there's no point in denying it), but it shouldn't play at the slideshow level, should it? There are games of the same engine that play more pleasantly with the same graphics settings. I'm inclined to think that something is wrong with the models and lighting settings, probably (this is a whole horror story: the rays live their own lives).

Another minor detail: Daniil Dankovsky feels different. I can't say exactly what's wrong (at least not right now), but the feeling is strong. And I still think I like the Classic Bachelor more, although time will tell. (Before anyone wants to write about the duckling syndrome - no, I don't have it. I found out about the Classic later than about the remake.) I know that the developers directly said that the global idea of the character has not changed, and I kind of believe them (obviously), but there still is a feeling that he is... out of character somehow. Let me repeat: this may be my personal first impression, which may change later, but if you also have this feeling, please share.

Oh, and his dialogue with Seraphima about his wife and marriage with work is funny, that's what I liked out of everything. And also Daniil's thoughts about the dinosaur in the hallway of the Academy. Now I wonder what kind it is. (Upd: that's not really a dinosaur. That's a Gastornis.)

The graphics... don't match the FPS you get from setting them. It reminds me of old indie horrors.
