a somber “what-if/aftermath” drawing based off of a short story i wrote about my #originalkaiju , pierre 💀🪦
read pale skin here!
SKETCH + CONTEXT UNDER CUT
CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR PALE SKIN, i reccomend reading the story before you dig into this!
whilst not entirely canon, in the wake of pierre’s death, the obscurity of his existence draws attention from far and wide. the military has failed to contain the decaying beast as people flood in to photograph and document the monster.
at first, pierre showed no signs of life. until the disturbance began, he was at peace. as people gathered around him, his presumably decaying body seemed to come to a halt. a deep, macabre rumble emitted from deep within the corpse, and the beast’s eye rolled in the direction of the helicopter flying over.
please. just let me lay to rest, i beg of you.

can you reccomend some of the documentaries you watched about apes?
Funny enough, I've been planning on making a list of documentaries so thanks for the push! I’ve watched a bunch to hype up for Kingdom and I’ll keep watching as we wait for POTA news. These are what I've been able to find with my various subscription services and internet access in the USA so their availability may vary for you. Also a warning that, due to these being non-fiction documentaries there is very real footage of animal injuries and death (from both humans and natural circumstances).
Monkey Business (Amazon Prime) - A long running show (9 seasons) about a primate rescue center in the UK. I really loved this one because you got to follow apes of the course of years. I even cried when one ape who had been there from the first season passed away in the final season. The show mostly focuses on chimps and orangutans but also features lemurs, woolly monkeys, gibbons and other species. The center focuses on giving the animals in their care the most natural life they can in captivity, and also assists in breeding programs for several endangered species. Jane Goodall even comes out in one episode to present them with an award for excellent enclosure construction. The theme song is very loud and distinctive, the point that my roommate asked how long this series was because she could hear the theme song coming from my room for weeks as I went through all 9 seasons. Highly recommend this one because the personalities of the apes really stand out when you spend literal years with them; it's worth the time commitment, I loved it.
(Also in making sure I had all the details about this show right, I learned there was a follow up show called Monkey Life that featured Andy Serkis himself narrating the first season and they seem to all be available on YouTube for free so I have a new multi-season show to watch now, thank you!!!)
Orangutan Jungle School (YouTube) - Rescue group dedicated to teaching young orangutans how to survive in the wild so they can be released when they're older. Only the first two episodes of this show are available on YouTube for free but I also devoured any clips I could find. I found this show particularly hilarious because the baby orangs are adorable. They cry when they don't get their cups of milk fast enough or when they can't figure out how to crack into a coconut. I always see adult orangutans as slow moving, so the activity and demanding personalities of the babies delighted me. If nothing else, watch these two clips because I have watched the clips of the babies screaming and the humans overreacting to fake snakes on repeat for ages.
Chimp Empire (Netflix) - Two chimpanzee groups in Uganda's Ngogo forest face off over territory and food, while each group faces their own struggles from within. This one is about wild chimps and it is fascinating to see their natural ways outside of rescue centers. The cinematography is gorgeous; I'd love to know how they got all these shots without disturbing the chimps. It's only 4 episodes; I wish it was longer but it packs a lot into its short run time.
Meet The Chimps (Disney+) - A one season show focusing on chimps living in a rescue center in Louisiana. A single season show so you don't get a lot of time with the chimps but it's got a much smaller number of chimps to get to know than Monkey Business. Also the troops are housed near each other so it's interested to see the dominance displays, even through a fence. My favorite part was near the end with the mystery of who was the father of an accidental baby. I guessed wrong!
Kingdom Of The Apes: Battle Lines (Disney+) - Two separate ape groups, one of chimps and the other of gorillas, sort out fights for dominance and leadership of the troop in their own ways. Personally I didn't like this one. Jumping back and forth between gorillas and chimps in a documentary less than an hour didn't leave me very invested, but I thought I'd add it if anyone was interested.
I'll throw in a couple podcasts too, should be free on your preferred podcast app:
Ologies, one episode on primatology and a separate episode on gorillaology
National Park After Dark, a two-part episode on the life, work, and murder of Dian Fossey, a primatologist who worked with gorillas and wrote the book 'Gorillas In the Mist'
The Wild With Chris Morgan, an episode on orangutans called People Of The Forest
There are a lot more documentaries I want to watch, especially several for free on YouTube. I hope this list is of interest to you and I welcome recommendations from anyone else.

i should probablyyyy be asleep rn
but whatever
whats the tts casts favorite halloween movie, or like what they enjoy bcuz thats what tjis turned into LMAO
rapunzel i feel is a diehard tim burton fan, anythinh by him is her fav, but shes also a hocus pocus fan and loves coraline(she also loves any type of halloween special for tv shows and stuff lol, she probably likes the curious george halloween special ngl)
cassie likes horror movies, esp the gore-y ones, i think she probably likes those movies, it gets her anger out. i havent seen many horror movies though bcuz im a paranoid loser so i shy away from scary movies, but cass probably laughs watchinh the scream movies
youve said tjis one before ane i LOVE IT, eugene and varian watch and listen to true crime stuff, varian probably likes the documentaries and podcasts, eugene like the cinematic true crime movies, but they all together like true crime stuff lol
lance, lance likes that one house of mouse episode where all the villians took over and that was the halloween special, he liked vampire mickey(ALSO, the dream works stuff like the shrek scary stories and the monsters vs aliens one aboyt the carrots & pumpkins that turned into zombies)
the girl just watch whatever everyone reccomends, like "okay we'll watch hocus pocus" "okay we'll watch halloweentown" ect, their favs tho are def horror ones, kiera likes nightmare on elm street and chucky, and catalina likes horror, but i feel like shed like the older stuff like frankenstiens monter & obvi stuff abt werewolves & vampires lol
and hugo likes hotel transylvania, specifically bcuz adam sandler does drac, and he forces varian to watch descendents with him, hugo def knows all of the songs to descendents(hes a mal kinnie what can i say)
and yes descendants is a halloween movies, IDC what you say, its a halloween movie /not mean💛
okay im going to bed goodnight augh mimimimi
Sorry this took so long to get to! I love these asks they just require a lot of thought and brainpower I often don’t have :p
Honestly like, you kinda nailed it lmao. I love these hc’s. I don’t know how to add onto it LMAO but here I did include movie hc’s in one of my posts-
I fully agree that Cass and Kiera would love the slasher films. Cass likes the more modern ones because quite a few of them have a feminist vibe, whereas Kiera likes the classics because 1) they’re cooler and 2) they were probably the ones Lance showed her first.
Lance and Rapunzel both like the less spooky and more vibey Halloween movies. Like you said, a lot of Tim Burton and Halloween specials. I think Raps would like Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride in particular. I think Lance likes Beetlejuice (in his opinion the musical is much better.) Rapunzel probably loves The Great Pumpkin Peanuts special and all the Phineas And Ferb Halloween specials.
I think Eugene probably also likes the classic slasher films. And like you said, Cat likes the classic Universal Monster films.
Quirin probably watches Halloween movies like the Universal Monster movies, along with some of my ultimate faves- Arsenic and Old Lace and I Married A Witch. Basically Quirin watches a lot of older Halloween movies and I think Varian ended up with those as his favorites. Tbh I don’t think Varian watches a lot of fictional things to scare himself (or at all.) When spooky season comes around, he watches things like Blameitonjorge, Nexpo, Nick Crowley, etc. True scary stories. He probably also loves the internet rabbit holes because they’re kind of like puzzles. (I’m really projecting onto him ngl but it fits okay!)
I feel like Hugo likes “bad” Halloween movies. Failures. Movies that fail so badly at being scary they’re funny. Think Velocipastor (please think about Velocipastor it’s the greatest movie in existence) but I can also see him enjoying Found Footage and along with Varian, “True” scary stories.
I think Hugo, Varian, and the girls watch obviously fake ghost hunting videos and make fun of them. They watch a lot of John Wolfe. I can also see Varigo + Eugene, Lance, and the girls really liking Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost/Mystery Files, along with Too Many Spirits. Which Varigo reenact at one point.
I think Lance, Eugene, and the girls watch the Conjuring series and other paranormal movies together. I can’t see Cass and Hugo enjoying them a whole lot, and Varian and Rapunzel are super afraid of them. I can see Varian and Rapunzel watching The Twilight Zone together. And also those Halloweentown movies on Disney (I’ve not seen them but they seem like Disney Channel fans) Varian, Raps, and Eugene watched the Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina but deemed it not nearly as good as the original sitcom. Eugene and Hugo hate-watch Twilight. Raps watches Halloween baking shows. Lance and Hugo like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Lance and Eugene like Young Frankenstein.
Goodnight rest well!

Te Welcome home site update is so, SO GOOD.
You can see the amount of work that went into it it's insane. I want to rant about it here- I heavily reccomend everyone to go check it out, PLEASE! Spoilers under cut!
Firstly, we got the voices of the characters?! Like how crazy is that?!!! The audios all sound so well, I bow my head to the voice actors and to Clown for choosing them and writing the lines.
Secondly THE GODDAMN ENTIRE GALLERY OF PROPS. What amount of time and effort must've gone into making these???? I cannot stress enough how it blows my mind. You can see the dedication and the passion.
Third, the secret videos. For those who don't know, on certain pages (I only discovered two for now) there will appear bug gifs (butterfly, beetle, etc). When you click on them, a FREAKING VIDEO APPEARS. A VIDEO. LIVE FOOTAGE TOO, NOT ANIMATION. Under it there's a transcript of what characters are there and what they say. From the two I found, they seem to be about Frank and that something is happening to his garden and he discusses it with other residents. The videos end/glitch out when he asks Wally about his opinion on whatever they're talking about and to be fair, it scared the everliving hell out of me the first time it happened, I literally got jumpscared- I'm discovering more as of writing this and I found more, this one with Eddie and Howdy, but they seem to be just talking. What is the thing that brings all the videos together is the Wally glitchout.
Also the 8bit gifs are so pretty I can't-
You can't send anymore thigs into the guest book, that is fair, the amount of submissions probably overwhelmed Clown. It was handled so well though, with the drawing os Sally holding a stop sign :D
There are more hidden audios/things about Wally knowing he's being looked at, that's fun :]
The amount of audio now is truly astounding. I'm just- AHHH I CAN'T WORD IT IT'S SO GOOD
Only now have I noticed the amount of bug-themed things in there too! It's very interesting indeed-
I ranted a lot here, huh... Well, it's worth ranting about! Have a great day! Remember: You're just the most!

can i hear all u have to say on 9/11 please i am way too interested in it also
omg ofc i'm always happy to infodump about my special interests lol!
(sorry this took a while this post became really long lmao)
i first became interested about 9/11 through the lost media community, when i saw ppl talk about the "LOL superman" video (supposedly an old shock video showing close-ups of the jumpers lying dead on the ground) though i personally don't believe it exists. but it was through that discussion that i found out about r/911archive, which is an amazing resource for anyone interested in 9/11, as it not only mostly factual (speculation does happen there ofc but conspiracy theories generally aren't tolerated) but it's also filled with thousands of kind and helpful people who are just as interested in it as i am lol
recently i've been watching lots of archived footage of the events, mostly news footage but some home videos too, and the naudet brothers who were filming a documentary about firefighters when 9/11 happened (they actually have footage of the first plane hitting the north tower! highly reccomend checking it out on youtube if you have the time!) i actually have a playlist with currently 28 videos in it that i can share if u want! i would say that the absolute best footage of that day comes from eyewitness news. This footage specifically (i hope the link works) is really, really good imo, as they actually caught the collapse of the south tower while standing basically a few meters away from the WTC, absolutely incredible footage imo!
Other footage which i find really interesting is from (i wasn't aware of them before since i'm not american and also born after 9/11), the way you can hear the audiences reaction to the news really hammers home how shocking this actually was, i can only speculate but it really feels like there was this attitude that the WTC, the pentagon and america in general were untouchable, and 9/11 kinda spelled out to people that this wasn't the case at all...
i will add one more video which i found interesting (otherwise this post will go on forever) and that's . i've often heard people who were alive when it happened say that they felt like the world stood still, and after seeing that video i think i understand.
people often trivialise 9/11 by making fun of peoples reactions to it and what not (and i agree that 9/11 has been used to justify awful things) but now that i've seen so much footage from that fateful day i just can't stand that kind of behaviour. and i've joked about it too in the past, in fact if you went through my archive right now you could probably find some post from last year mocking the event, but i really regret it tbh. like nearly 3000 people died (and many more died in the following war) so it's just not funny to me anymore
there's lots of footage which i find interesting but for the sake of this post not being super long i won't go on lol, but u can always send another ask or DM me if u wanna talk more c:

You know
I was checking WtW for the first time in a while, and saw they had some info on upcoming Ghost Game episodes, both the titles for a few episodes and even some plot synopsis
So I took a quick looksie to see if there’s anything interesting in there
I am going fucking DIE
So I saw the title “Spiral Beach” for episode 40 and I was immidiately reminded of Uzumaki (lit. “spiral”). For those not familiar with it, it’s an aclaimed horror manga series by the great Junji Ito, about a small town by the ocean where strange things begin to happen surrounding spirals. If you enjoy some S-Rank body horror then I definitely reccomend reading it, if you’re easily given nightmares then stay away from it and Ito’s other works, I can say from experience, I read most of Uzumaki when I was like 13 and I’m still actually fucked up from it.
So when I saw the episode title and then read the synopsis for the episode... Yeah... Yeah... Episode 40 could be a Uzumaki parody/tribute.
So that’s concerning
(I mean this is a kids show, even if they do play tribute to Uzumaki they’re NOT gonna go super hard on the body horror, they can’t traumatize kids like that lmao)
BUT THAT’S NOT EVEN THE THING THAT MADE ME LOSE MY FUCKING SHIT
NO, IT’S THE TITLE FOR THE FOLLOWING EPISODE
THERE’S NO PLOT SYNOPSIS FOR EPISODE 41, JUST THE TITLE
“CLOWN”
Is this real
Is it finally happening
Are we gonna see Piemon (or Jokermon) in Digimon? We haven’t seen him animated since the end of fucking Adventure 22 years ago (aside from a few second cameo in tri. and stock footage flashbacks in Zero Two, and I guess GG’s opening but it’s the silhouette of his head)
I am going fucking die ARE WE GONNA SEE PIEMON
LIKE IT COULD BE A FAKE-OUT CONSIDDERING EP35 WAS CALLED WEREWOLF AND THERE WAS NO WEREWOLF IN THE EPISODE
BUT LIKE
I’m dying, I am absolutely fucking dying right now
You don’t understand how badly I’ve wanted to see my clown bastard in this series y’all, you don’t understand how often I’ve longingly gazed into the backgrounds in Tamers and Xros Wars and Frontier, looking at the massive crowds of Digimon, desperately wanting to see even just a glimpse of that asshole but there was always nothing
Y’all remember how excited I got during Psi’s run when we found out Etemon would fucking show up in there, and how I got excited about the possibilty Psi could maybe speedrun all the Adventure villians- but then they didn’t
And here we are
Ghost Game cave us a Psi-style recreation of Adventure’s Vamdemon
Ghost Game has had all the iconic Adventure villians in the opening since the begining (and then some)
I know, I remember, that Kakudou said he just used the Digimon he was most familiar with when making the opening, and that they weren’t a reflection of which Digimon would end up appearing in the series
But
But
Episode 40 of GG is called Spiral Beach
Episode 40 of Adventure was when the kids return to the DW, discovering the Dark Masters had transformed the DW into the Spiral Mountain
Episode 41 of GG is called Clown
It’s probably just a coincidence. I do not believe GG is going to speedrun a retelling of the Dark Masters arc, I don’t even think most of those Digimon end up appearing, and the “clown” could be a redherring (or reference to Jokermon, which could be more likely, IDK, do they want the first Ultimate level Digimon they introduce to be a clown? Actually I’m a few episodes behind IDK if they have shown Ultimates yet)
But what if it isn’t a coincidence
What if Toei is intentionally trolling me speficially? (A likely scenario)
Or what if it isn’t a coincidence
IDK I am absolutely losing my fucking marbles right now
I am so excited and I probably shouldn’t be (again, it could be some other non-clown Digimon), but I am, and. Like. Yeah
We sure aren’t gonna find out what’s up until at least the episode preview for 41, so like. August 28th. Gotta wait about 20 days. I’m in pain.
Part of me wishes I hadn’t looked at the episode titles because I have now spoiled myself, shame on me. But what’s done is done.
Gonna go watch the latest two episodes now I guess

I've got one episode left but so far I'm pleased with the way Archive 81 has been adapted for television.
They made a lot of (in my opinion) smart decisions when adapting the story from audio to visual. The fleshing out of Dan's background as an archivist was A+. Rather than go purely found footage for the story of Melody, they start with a portion of the recording and then switch the viewer to a full view of past events. Helps keep disbelief suspended when you don't try and sell the idea everyone with a camcorder is a cinematographer.
I feel like the majority of the show avoided Netflix Disease, which is refreshing. There are only 2 instances where I felt was being spoonfed. And even then I'll allow some leniency, since both scenes occurred after Dan + Melody have begun to doubt their sanity and it is framed as them double checking their work. Ymmv of course.
I was at first worried they were re-writing Melody as straight, and was upset since she is our most powerful horror lesbian. But based on recent story developments I think she's just closeted.
Overall I'd reccomend to existing fans and new.
#really they just need Doug Jones to play Kaelego#then it'd be perfect#archive 81#dead signals#horror podcasts

please reccomend your favourite book??!!
hi! sorry for leaving this for a bit, i wanted to think about it
it's time for a read more, unfortunately
my favourite book ever is House of Leaves, but i want to include some more because it's quite... odd? i really do think more people should check it out but it's long, difficult to read to say the least, and just quite odd. gimme a sec to think about this... i think it does deserve some explaining
house of leaves is two stories at once, with two unreliable narrators to say the least:
johnny truant, who checks out an old dead guy's apartment with his friend after said dead dude dies with nobody to inherit his stuff. the only thing they find left in his apartment is his life's work, which makes up the bulk of the book. johnny writes commentary in the footnotes, through which you kind of piece together his life story. it's quite interesting, completely and utterly bullshit, and... really pretty sad. his life falls apart has he reads The Navidson Record, a book by...
zampano, an old man who is almost certainly using a pen name. his life's work is the definitive summary and critical review of a found-footage film / documentary about a pulitzer-winning photojournalist Will Navidson who decides to film his attempt to finally settle down with his family, but then their house starts... growing new doors and expanding on the inside. this second level of narration is strongly about navidson, but you can't really extract zampano from it, since johnny is never able to actually find any evidence the navidson record existed
i really don't know how to talk about the book more without this post becoming a full length essay but it is a very unique read, as well as a difficult one - both in terms of the language it uses and uh, this
i strongly recommend house of leaves, but at the same time i really struggle to explain it!
as i said, i wanted to include some others, but i might say a bit less here:
piranesi by susanna clarke is a nice and strange read! i have a signed copy
i'm going back a bit here and idk if i'd like them any more but as a teen i adored charlie higson's The Enemy series of zombie books - the basic gist is everyone over 14 turned into zombies and the world is now run by kids and teens. it's quite an odd series, though i never finished it - i think i have all but the last book and then sorta grew out of them
i quite liked that book Warm Bodies. it got a film, was it any good? also did they include the skeletons from the book or pass over that bit
okay and last i'm gonna say another i looooved, The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by mariana enriquez is a collection of short horror stories with a pretty creepy cover. my favourite was Meat! there's a bit more i could say re: this one but i don't really know if i should get into it - i enjoyed it but it was uncomfortable at times
#dibi#re: the last one#horror is meant to be uncomfortable don't get me wrong#but there's just one issue w one of the stories that was completely unnecessary and i did not appreciate whatsoever#ANYWAY#READ HOUSE OF LEAVES#IT'S EXPENSIVE AND WRITTEN REALLY WEIRDLY#BUT IT'S VERY GOOD

do you have any podcasts recs? I want to listen to archive 81 but I need some backup and I've already listened to the more "famous" ones, like all of them I binge podcasts like they pay me for me it ajsjjshfje
!!!! ok i'm sorry it's taken me a hot minute to get to you BUT i think i have a good amount of reccomendations :o
these first few are kinda "famous" but i thought i'd point em out just in case! some of them ended a few years ago and they were more well known back when they were running
wolf 359: gotta point this one out juuuust in case you haven't listened to it! amazing sci fi... would drama be the right word? it's very intense and has some really interesting meditations on morality and the self But it's also so extremely funny. complete, ended in 2017
ars paradoxica: america during the cold war, the red scare, intense government conspiracies.... And Time Travel! complicated but amazing plot and a big cast- i would recommend not pausing and listening to something else, it gets complex! mischa stanton directed it so you Know it has stellar sound design (added bonus: lgbt main characters) complete, ended in 2018
the bright sessions: people with superpowers go to therapy! plus: shadowy capitalistic conspiracies, amazing romances and phenomenal character development! i'm not a fan of romances and i Loved the ones here (it's not heavily romance focused though!) (added bonus: lgbt main characters + main lgbt romance) complete, ended in 2018. i think a spin off series is running rn tho!
the adventure zone: this isn't an audio drama, it's an actual play d&d podcast! the first season (balance) is amazing- hilarious and heart wrenching! (the heart wrenching takes a while to kick in but MAN it's so good) the first season ended in 2017. i haven't finished the second big season (amnesty) but i loved what i did listen to, same with the currently running season (graduation)
sayer: starts off as sinister night vale but with an ai and in space, evolves into a complicated save-the-world plot concerning several ais. it's in second person and it's Amazing! lots of meditations on the self and personhood. currently on hiatus but will be ending when it resumes
alice isn't dead: from the people who did night vale! starts as a trucker trying to find her wife, evolves to include shadowy government conspiracies and the power of regular people banding together. ending made me tear up it's really good! it's Big on the horror (the first ep is the only podcast that's ever truly scared me and it continues to scare the shit out of me to this day) but its Extremely Good Horror. very americana too! complete, ended in 2018.
ok that's the more well known ones out of the way, i think? i'm not too confident about how well known some of them are nowadays ^^' all i can say is that i heard abt them frequently in 2016. now onto the lesser known ones ! the ones that are complete are generally pretty short listens (relatively- they're still a good handful of hours at the least)
zero hours: by the wolf 359 people, it's a short anthology that released all at once last year. to pharaphrase/quote the official blurb: each episode is a take on the end of the world, whether the apocalypse is planetary or personal. each episode is separated by 99 years, starting in the past (1722) reaching the present and then overtaking it. surprisingly hopeful ending, made me <:')
i am in eskew: you've probably heard me holler about this before- it follows the trials and tribulations of david ward, who lives in the nightmarish and otherworldly city of eskew. 30 episodes long and complete, with a phenomenal ending! i can't rave about this enough i could Keep talking but i'll cut myself short. it's horror and it's damn good horror! does deal with extremely heavy topics, please be careful!
janus descending: sci fi horror with what has to be the most interesting formatting i've seen in ages: the two points of view alternate each episode... but one is chronological and one is backwards! amazingly done, keeps you guessing until the end! complete. follows peter and chel as they undertake a survey mission on an alien planet
midnight radio: made by @/theradioghost! big on the idea that "all ghost stories are love stories". a 1950s radio hostess gets letters from a fan. horror, big on the 1950s aesthetics, focus on the relationship between one and one's hometown. lovely ending! it's sapphic too :]
the far meridian: by the same people who did ars paradoxica! follows peri, a bit of a hermit who has extreme social anxiety, who lives in a lighthouse that suddenly begins to teleport. each morning peri wakes up and the lighthouse is in a different place! there are like... some horror elements? kinda? but it's not intense imo. it mainly follows peri learning to cope with her anxiety & helping others, with each episode usually having a one off encounter (usually pretty strange!) often has wholesome vibes. s3 is currently in production and is the final season. plus: lgbt characters, and kinda spoilers but peri uses a cane later on!
old gods of appalachia: honestly it's what it says on the tin! a collection of short stories set in historical appalachia that deal with entities beyond human understanding. they're good about trigger warnings, but it's Horror. produced by actual appalachians! stellar music, a Lot strong female characters, and a good amount of lgbt rep! killer music!! it's currently releasing but the latest short story is finished. (do listen in order though!)
the deep vault: by the archive 81 team! in an "almost-post-apocalyptic" america a group of friends chase a rumor about a secret hidden vault, only to Find it! follows the group as they traverse the deep vault. horror, actively points out capitalism a Lot, definetly has an interesting ending! amazing sound design, which is to be expected from dan powell!
tides: the official blurb is short and sweet: "tides is the story of dr. winnifred eurus, a xenobiologist stuck on an unfamiliar planet with hostile tidal forces". extremely snarky and endearing main character and fascinating worldbuilding! i don't know the status of s2, but s1 was really good!
limetown: follows one lia haddock, a public radio reporter, as she tries to unravel the mystery of what happened at limetown. all she knows is that 10 years prior, over 300 men, women and children vanished. horror, mystery, and some sci fi elements. presented in a found footage kinda way. i really enjoyed it, especially the first season. complete.
mabel: horror (big on the haunted house type specifically), sapphic romance, fun take on the fair folk/fae! follows anna limon, an in home carer who's trying to get in touch with her client's estranged granddaughter. evolves into a big fae-horror-romance-thing! really interesting romance tbh. amazing imagery and prose- lots of prose + almost poetry, but it's really good i promise. currently on a post season hiatus
spines: horror but it evolves past just horror in an interesting way (keeping the horror bits, of course). follows wren, who woke up in an attic surrounded by the remains of a cult ritual without any memories of who she is or what she was doing. she searches for answers, encountering creepy shit along the way. really interesting take on the super-secret-organization-that's-always-been-there trope! really good ending. one of the main characters is nonbinary + there's other lgbt main characters.
mirrors: by the people who did spines. also starts as horror but evolves past just horror (it's also sci fi). follows three women in three different centuries who are all experiencing the same haunting. phenomenal take on ghosts! like i can't articulate how cool this angle on ghosts is! s3 is supposed to start this year :] one of the main characters is sapphic, and her wife is a supporting character.
the six disappearances of ella mccray: also by the people who did spines and mirrors. evolves past just horror but keeps more of the horror elements? follows the 6 povs of the people who witnessed the surreal disappearance of ella mccray. each saw something different and surreal, and as they search for her, surreal things start happening to them. unsure abt the status of s3 but s1 and s2 are really good! lgbt main characters, including a trans lesbian (played by a trans woman!)
the bridge: horror. follows the crew of watchtower 10 on the transcontinental bridge that spans across the atlantic ocean. i listened to it back in like 2016-2017 so my memory is hazy, but i remember really enjoying it! currently on hiatus.
within the wires: sci fi... horror..? i listened to the first season a few years ago and enjoyed it and i've continued to hear really good things. it's by the people who make night vale! my memory isn't great but iirc the first season is a sort of romance that's formatted as a set of relaxation/meditation cassettes. it's a few seasons in and i think each is generally self contained, im unsure if it's currently running or not
the orbiting human circus of the air: also by the night vale people! again i listened to this a few years ago so im hazy. follows julian the janitor who works at a radio station that broadcasts from the top of the eiffel tower! surreal but in a wholesome way, iirc! i remember tearing up with happy tears at the s1 finale ^^' really good music! i think the second(?) season ended recently
stellar firma: i've only listened to a handful of episodes, but i've liked what i've heard. sci fi improv comedy that follows the newly made clone david 7 and the mess that is trexel geistman as they try and design custom planets. i think it's currently running but i dunno
rusty quill gaming: also another one that i've only listened to a few episodes of. actual play pathfinder (basically d&d) podcast set on an alternate earth. alex newall (martin's voice actor) is the dm. i've heard really good things from a lot of people! i think it's currently running but again i don't know for sure
right! that's. that's what i got.
i mentioned @/theradioghost earlier (shes behind midnight radio) but i would absolutely recommend looking at her rec list tag! she has impeccable taste

Movie Recommendations Part One
Genre: Horror/Thriller
If you are new to horror, or easily scared, I reccomend starting with this movie. It does contain jump scares, and some gory elements (if I remember correctly), so watch out if you are sensitive to those! If you genuinely get scared while watching this movie, all you have to think about is that the special effects for Slenderman make him look like a q-tip. The movie doesnt really pick up concerning the horror until around the second half of the movie. Before that it is setting the tone and more of a thriller. Overall I give the movie a 3/10 simply because it isnt my style. There are many different options the directors could have taken with this movie, and I didnt particularly care for the one they went with 🤷♀️
If you prefer a documentary take on horror movies, I reccomend this one. Hell House LLC is a 'documentary' of an investigation into the deaths of 15 people who died 5 years earlier in a haunted house attraction. It is a found footage type of film that was executed as best as it could be. In my opinion, it is one of the better found footage horrors that I have seen, but it starts off extremely slow. As the movie continues, it starts to pick up bit by bit. However, I feel like it didnt exactly reach full 'horror' until the conclusion. Even then, it was more of a thriller than anything. The conclusion itself left me slightly confused, and left the movie open. There is a second, but I am unsure if it connects to the first movie or not, since I have not watched it. Overall, I give the movie a 5/10
The Boy is a psychological horror/thriller that I absolutely love. It does contain a 'haunted doll' of sorts, but I still reccomend watching it even if you dont like doll horror movies (please trust me on this one). I, personally, hate haunted doll movies and I LOVED this one. That being said, I reccomend the first movie. Not the second. The second movie contradicts many plot points established in the first, and seemed extremely hypocritical to me. The directors essentially backtracked over many facts they established in the first for the sake of popularity. Overall, I give the first movie a solid 7.5/10. It has a slow buildup but its 100% worth it. There are some trigger warnings for this movie however. If you are sensitive to domestic violence, stalkers, or suicidal themes, I do not recommend watching it. Domestic violence is a main plot point in the movie (the other two are very minor and only mentioned a few times). I give the second movie a 3/10. Again, didnt care for it.
The Invisible Man is an amazing thriller. This movie does deal with themes of domestic violence throughout, so that is another trigger warning. It has scifi themes as well, so I reccomend it if that is your cup of tea. I honestly dont have much to critique about this movie, so I'll skip to the rating. I give the movie a solid 8/10
Ready or Not is another thriller. Trigger warning for gore. This movie is more lighthearted than any other thriller you'd ever see, and honestly I like it alot for that reason. It has comedy throughout which lightens the mood alot. Though it is not much of a thriller, I still prefer to classify it as one due to the later half of the movie. I give it a 9/10
....
I will be coming out with other lists of recommendations for different genres and working my way through. If you are curious about a movie and want my opinion/review, feel free to drop an ask in my inbox ✌

Yeah tma is a horror podcast!! I also listen to a81 which is a found footage horror podcast (vvv good i recommend that!) Ah!! I know a lot about TAZ! However its just...so...long....like the episodes are about like an hour or so long and its just i listened to the first couple of episodes but it was: difficult 4 me to focus!!! I might try to listen to it again but a,, Ive seen a lotta fan content tho!!!
#like even if tma was an hour long episodes i dont think i could do it...#the only reason i can do a81 which can get up to like 40ish to an hour long#is bc like things happen fast! there is character dialouge thats super intriguing and it started fast and keeps at the good pace easy 4 me#to focus#the only episode i struggled focusing with for a81 was the golden age episodes ( but those also mega fucked me up )#like i struggle to even focus to tma hgfug and thats only like 20 minute max episodes#retro.answer
