"Moody," Fabian said, smiling at the sight of a fellow Order member while also looking around, slightly confused, "What is going on here? Last thing I remember I was dueling against Dolohov and other Death Eaters and now I'm... in America? At least I think it's America. What is happening?"

"I feel like everybody I've spoken to tonight has said that," Fabian said, "Perhaps they hosted this thing here to get more business," he joked.
"I've been here forever, yet I never actually stepped foot in here until now." What with work occupying Shi Mei's mind almost all the time. "I hear they have quite a bit, including dinosaur bones and fossils if that tickles the fancy."

having thoughts about marlene mckinnon for way too many words
In honour of breaking up the fanon characterisation of Marlene a little, here’s every bit of information I could find about Marlene from canon, and variants of Marlene that aren't a Marauders' year Gryffindor that I think could be really fun to write! As a fandom we all seem to stick to the same few traits for the characters like Marlene, to the point where it almost creates a kind of ‘canon’ which kind of defeats the creative freedom which makes writing in the Marauders era so interesting.
And please note that this is not a criticism of fanon at all, headcanon what you want to headcanon, there are so many talented writers and artists who do amazing Marlene work within her fanon characterisation as a Gryffindor classmate in the Marauders’ year. I just had a lot of thoughts.
So anyway, here’s the three quotes we have that mention her:
“No one lived after he decided ter kill ‘em, no one except you, an’ he killed some o’ the best witches an’ wizards of the age - the McKinnons, the Bones, the Prewetts - an’ you was only a baby, an’ you lived,” - Hagrid, The Philosopher's Stone
“That’s Marlene McKinnon, she was killed two weeks after this was taken, they got her whole family,” - Moody, Order of the Phoenix
“Wormy was here last weekend, I thought he seemed down, but that was probably the news about the McKinnons; I cried all evening when I heard,” - Lily, The Deathly Hallows
Let’s get into it. Alright, so to get an indication of what Hagrid means when he’s talking about “the best witches an’ wizards of the age,” we can look at the Bones and the Prewetts.
“That’s Edgar Bones… brother of Amelia Bones, they got him and his family, too, he was a great wizard” from Order of the Phoenix. Apparently, his mother and father were also murdered by Voldemort (fandom wiki). It’s unclear whether “great” refers to magical skill or strength of character; however, we know Amelia Bones, his sister, was a fair and principled woman, so it probably includes elements of both.
“Gideon Prewett, it took five Death Eaters to kill him and his brother Fabian, they fought like heroes.” Combining this with the Hagrid quote, we can gather that the “best witches an’ wizards” likely refers to prodigal magical skill, as well as strength of character - generally acting like a hero.
So from these quotes, we can gather that Marlene was either a great witch herself, or at the very least, most of her family was skilled at magic, and that they all had great strength of character. By strength of character, I guess, from looking at the type of people the Prewetts and the Bones were, I mean that she valued stuff like justice, compassion and courage, and also, to put it simply, had a backbone and could stand up for what she believed in.
I don’t think this necessarily makes her a Gryffindor, although it does make it more likely. The Bones family was known to be affiliated with Hufflepuff (Susan Bones), and people of every house can exhibit these traits. Although still very much possible, I find Slytherin to be the most unlikely house for her, as Hagrid does tend to harbour certain biases towards Slytherins (i.e. he tells Harry that there wasn’t a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn’t in Slytherin) so would be less likely to describe a Slytherin-affiliated family in such a positive manner. However, realistically, all four houses are open options for Marlene.
Now, onto her relationship with Lily Evans. Lily does not refer to her by name, only as part of a collective “the McKinnons,” implying that to the extent Lily knew Marlene, she was also associated with more than one member of the McKinnon family. Her death is also mentioned in a throwaway sort of line, as an explanation of Peter’s sadness, meaning she had to be somewhat close to Peter for it to be reasonable that he’s at least as sad as Lily about her death. This also reads like it’s the first time Lily has discussed her death with Sirius, and it’s been about a week. This, to me, seems to indicate a relationship that isn’t necessarily very close, more like coworkers than anything - if they were closer, I think we could expect more of a specific comment about Marlene rather than a generalised one about her family. As this letter is addressed to Sirius, it’s also likely that Sirius wasn’t particularly close with Marlene either, as Lily offers no attempt to comfort him about her death, which occurred sometime close to “last weekend.” Given Lily is often shown as quite a caring character, if either Lily or Sirius were extremely close to her, I think you’d expect more from Lily. However, Lily still does “[cry] all evening” when she hears, so it isn’t completely detached news of something happening to a stranger. Casual friends or acquaintances, maybe, but probably not a deep friendship.
We’re looking at a relationship close enough to warrant an initial shock reaction from Lily, but not close enough to warrant continual intense grief for more than a week, with a connection that was to the whole McKinnon family, not simply Marlene. In my personal view, while being Gryffindor classmates fits this model (allows Lily, Peter and Sirius to all be familiar with her, and could have a similar level of detachment as Harry has from Dean or Seamus), I’d think sharing a dormitory for seven years and also fighting in a war together would form a deeper connection between Marlene and Lily (think of Harry’s connection with Neville by the end of Deathly Hallows), or at least warrant a mention of Marlene in particular rather than “the McKinnons” in her letter.
Moody also doesn’t point out additional members of the McKinnon family in the photo, implying that they were absent when the photograph was taken or were not members of the Order. I think it likely that more McKinnons than Marlene were in the Order, as this would allow Lily, Sirius and Peter to be connected to the family. There are three scenarios: the McKinnons are in the Order photograph and are simply not mentioned by Moody, the McKinnons are in the Order but not the photograph, and the McKinnons are not in the Order. In the first scenario, Marlene is singled out as the most significant member of the McKinnons, as she is the only one named and the others are referred to as “her family” - she could be more involved in the Order than the others, or she acts as some kind of leading figure for the household, or she was simply better known to Moody than the others. In the second scenario, she is mentioned as the only one present, while the others are absent - they could be in hiding, although Lily and James were in hiding and were still present for the photograph, or are on some kind of Order activity (like Lupin, who is also not mentioned as being in this photograph). In the third scenario, Marlene is the only Order member in her family. The way Moody describes her death as “got her whole family” also suggests an element of being caught, as if the whole family was wanted to some extent by the Death Eaters. Hagrid also says that Voldemort had “decided ter kill ‘em,” further implying that the whole family were targets, not just collateral damage from targeting Marlene. For these reasons, I find it more likely that she is not the only member of the Order in her family.
Lily, James, Sirius and Peter are seated in the same row of the photograph - from this, we can gather that there likely wasn’t arranged seating and people sat with those they were friendly with. Marlene is standing nearby to Dedalus Diggle, Frank and Alice Longbottom and Moody, implying these were the Order members she was closest to, not the Marauders. For this reason, I think it’s reasonable to interpret Marlene as older than she often is portrayed. Frank and Alice’s ages are unknown, but they are well-accomplished Aurors, repeatedly stated throughout the series to be an extremely challenging career with training for at least three years after graduation to even enter the position, although they are not too old to have Neville (the average age of first-time mothers in 1981 was about 25, but given that Alice was a well-established Auror by the time Neville was born, she was probably a bit older), likely placing them somewhere in the mid twenties to thirties range. Dedalus Diggle could be any age, but he is quite an eccentric and cheerful character, wearing a purple top hat, known for enthusiastic displays like summoning shooting stars in Kent upon Voldemort’s downfall, bowing to Harry in a shop, and attempting to be friendly to Vernon Dursley (a monumental task). Her association with Dedalus Diggle implies she isn’t bothered by this kind of behaviour - or maybe she is, and she’s unfortunately stuck standing near him. Moody is described as having grey hair, and just generally comes across as an older man (grizzled appearance, gruff, battle-hardened cynic). Given Moody is also nearby, Marlene is now associated with at least three Aurors, so she could reasonably be interpreted as an Auror, or Auror-in-training.
So, in conclusion:
Marlene is a member of the Order, likely at least a few years older than Lily and James. Her family members, whether that be her children or parents or siblings, are also in the order, and she is probably fairly close with them, given they were all murdered together. The McKinnons are highly skilled wizards and have strength of character, standing up for their beliefs, to the extent that they become a specific target for Death Eaters. Her closest associates in the Order are probably the Longbottoms and Dedalus Diggle, as well as Mad-Eye Moody.
Marlene Variants!!
I think being described as one of the best of the age, not her age, but the age, might imply that she was either a younger member of a well-known magical family like the Potters (James Potter’s parents), or was an older, well-accomplished witch in her own right.
Marlene, part of a large family affiliated with the Order, who knew Sirius, Lily and Peter through having been the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor one year. We know that, in Harry’s time, Dumbledore asked at least two former Order members to teach DADA in a six year time span (Moody and Lupin, from Harry’s first to sixth year), so it isn’t unlikely that Order members could be asked to fill in the role for a year. Professor McKinnon, who puts her students through almost military paces, but who sits on her desk while teaching, who knows which students are friends, who arranges her seating plans accordingly to make sure everyone has someone they can ask for help nearby. Marlene, who teaches the first years how to duel and goes tramping through the forbidden forest searching for Hinkypunks and takes her third years to the lake with Gillyweed to hunt for Grindylows, because doing is the best way to learn.
Marlene McKinnon and Dedalus Diggle as friends; whether Marlene is similar to him in being enthusiastic and just generally kind of extra, or whether she’s a kind of down to earth character foil for him, just… I think those two would be very interesting to see interacting. Marlene and Dedalus as old schoolmates, who love magic for the wild and the untameable, who charm rain into shooting stars and charm autumn leaves to fly in dizzying dances.
Marlene as an Auror. Marlene as Moody’s colleague, as around his age, as Frank and Alice’s colleague. Marlene who can hold her own against any given Death Eater, even when caught by surprise. Marlene, who can cast spells so powerful they make the floor crack under her feet and sear the walls with energy. Marlene McKinnon, who makes Death Eaters flee when she appears in the doorway, who can never be ambushed and can never be beaten, who decimates the ranks of every opposing force. Marlene, who isn’t afraid to kill where Moody spares, who can snap from kind to deadly in an instant.
Marlene who is delighted when Alice tells her she’s having a baby, who comes around for lunch on Saturdays, who helps design the wards, and patches loopholes in the magic until it's impenetrable, and who makes Neville a quilt that is never finished. Marlene, who would have been an incredible aunt figure to Neville Longbottom.
Marlene as an Auror in training, with parents who are already Aurors, potentially siblings too. Marlene who goofs around with Moody, who Tonks reminds him of years later, Marlene who dies despite her training. Maybe Evan Rosier is the one who kills her; maybe Moody remembers this when Rosier refuses to come quietly; maybe Marlene McKinnon is half the reason Rosier ends up dead that day.
There’s my brainrot analysis! This turned out a bit longer than I intended it to be. Feel free to use any of this in anything you make (maybe I’ll cough up some art eventually… tag me if you do, I’d love to see). And a friendly reminder that if you do headcanon Marlene differently, in the end, it’s all for fun, and you’re free to view her any way you’d like. And who knows, maybe I’ll get around to doing this for the other characters one day.

What happened to Ron’s grandparents?
Ok, theory time. What happened to Ron’s grandparents? Specifically, Molly’s parents.
I do think both Molly’s and Arthur’s parents are dead in present day because no grandparents are mentioned at Bill and Fleur’s wedding. Vague “relations” are mentioned, but I think grandparents would have been singled out if they were there since they would be a closer relation than Muriel, who was singled out.
So the question is, if Ron’s grandparents are dead, what happened to them? How and when did they die?
In the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone, Hagrid tells Harry about Voldemort:
“No one ever lived after he decided ter kill ’em, no one except you, an’ he’d killed some o’ the best witches an’ wizards of the age — the McKinnons, the Bones, the Prewetts —”
At this point, we don’t know Molly is a Prewett and we don’t know about Gideon or Fabian. So we can assume that a few people with the surname Prewett died the last time Voldemort was in power.
I think the context is really important here though. Hagrid is talking about the Potters, who Voldemort personally killed. It stands to reason that he killed at least some of the McKinnons, Boneses, and Prewetts personally as well.
In Order of the Phoenix, these families are mentioned again when Moody gives Harry the picture of the original Order:
“Marlene McKinnon, she was killed two weeks after this was taken, they got her whole family.”
“That’s Edgar Bones... brother of Amelia Bones, they got him and his family too, he was a great wizard...“
“Gideon Prewett, it took five Death Eaters to kill him and his brother Fabian, they fought like heroes…“
If Gideon and Fabian were killed by Death Eaters, then Voldemort didn’t kill them. Hagrid could of course have meant that Voldemort’s people killed them, not necessarily Voldemort himself.
I think it would make a lot of sense if most of the Prewett family was wiped out. The McKinnons were entirely wiped out. Edgar Bones was killed with his wife and children, though we know that Amelia Bones and whoever their other brother was (father of Susan Bones) survived, though we know that Amelia Bones was later killed in Half-Blood Prince. Maybe Death Eaters killed the Prewett brothers but Voldemort killed the parents.
This would be interesting as the Prewetts are more respected by the pure-blood community, and therefore Voldemort’s followers, than the Weasley family. Cedrella Black (Arthur Weasley’s mother) was disowned for marrying Septimus Weasley, whereas Lucretia Black was not disowned for marrying Ignatius Prewett (Molly’s uncle). But, as far as we know, none of the Weasleys were part of the original Order, meanwhile, not one, but two Prewetts were members.
We don’t actually find out that Molly is a Prewett until Deathly Hallows, and even then it’s never mentioned in any other the books that her maiden name is Prewett. When she gives Harry the watch, she mentions that it belonged to her brother Fabian. As Fabian Prewett is the only Fabian we’ve heard of since the start of the series, we are left to assume that this is the same Fabian. (There is also the connection of Molly having brothers named Fabian and Gideon and twin sons named Fred and George.)
So there is my very long winded theory (and now headcanon) that Voldemort murdered Molly Weasley’s parents.

"Not to worry, just as much my fault as-" Fabian stopped, surprised by what he was called, "Uncle?" he stared at the other for a moment, trying to figure out who he was. There were only so many options but none of them should have been... "Holy shit, Bill?!" he blinked a few times, shaking his head, "The last time I saw you, you were," he gestured with his hands. The man in front of him was... well, a man. He had only been a kid, "How is that possible?"
@papcrrings (fabian prewett)
"Shit! Sorry mate, I've always been a little too clumsy for my own good." Bill grimaced as he stumbled back after bumping into someone. His eyes widened as he took in the other man's face, thinking he had seen a ghost. Could it be? His head shook, his jaw working although no sound left his mouth. Finally, "Uncle Fab?"

Chapter Six: Hidden Nightmares.
"Prefect, eh?" growled Moody, his normal eye on Ron and his magical eye swivelling around to gaze into the side of his head. Harry had the very uncomfortable feeling it was looking at him and moved away toward Sirius and Lupin.
"Well, congratulations," said Moody, still glaring at Ron with his normal eye, "authority figures always attract trouble, but I suppose Dumbledore thinks you can withstand most major jinxes or he wouldn't have appointed you..."
Mel took her friend away from Moody in case he decided to continue trying to scare him to death.
"I was never a prefect myself," said Tonks as she walked past them. "My Head of House said I lacked certain necessary qualities."
"Like what?" said Ginny.
"Like the ability to behave myself."
"Same reason why Mel didn't get a badge," Emily walked past her daughter. "I hope this works as a lesson..."
"Sure does, now I know I'm doing something right," Mel smirked.
"What about you, Sirius?" Ginny asked.
"No one would have made me a prefect! I spent too much time in detention with James. Lupin was the good boy, he got the badge."
"I think Dumbledore might have hoped that I would be able to exercise some control over my best friends," said Lupin. "I need scarcely say that I failed dismally."
"What about my dad?"
"Matthew was a brilliant student but Dumbledore knew that giving him the badge would've been like given us green light to go around doing whatever we pleased," Sirius grinned.
"Again, same the reason why Dumbledore didn't give you a badge," Lupin smiled.
"You really think I would let my friends do mischief without any consequences?" Mel feigned indignation.
"Yes," The three adults replied.
"Well, I think I'll sort out that boggart before I turn in... Arthur, I don't want this lot up too late, all right? 'Night, dears."
Mel walked into Harry just as he was getting up and she stumbled backwards.
"Sorry," He said quickly.
"It's fine..."
"You all right?" Moody asked them.
"Yeah, fine."
"Lovely dinner," Mel smiled tensely.
"Come here, I've got something that might interest you," He told them.
From an inner pocket of his robes Moody pulled a very tattered old Wizarding photograph.
"Original Order of the Phoenix," growled Moody. "Found it last night when I was looking for my spare Invisibility Cloak, seeing as Podmore hasn't had the manners to return my best one... Thought people might like to see it."
Harry took the photograph and Mel leaned closer to take a look.
"There's me," said Moody. "And there's Dumbledore beside me, Dedalus Diggle on the other side... That's Marlene McKinnon, she was killed two weeks after this was taken, they got her whole family. That's Frank and Alice Longbottom — Poor devils, better dead than what happened to them... and that's Emmeline Vance, you've met her, and that there's Lupin, obviously... Benjy Fenwick, he copped it too, we only ever found bits of him... shift aside there–
That's Edgar Bones... brother of Amelia Bones, they got him and his family too, he was a great wizard... Sturgis Podmore, blimey, he looks young... Caradoc Dearborn vanished six months after this, we never found his body... Hagrid, of course, looks exactly the same as ever... Elphias Doge, you've met him, I'd forgotten he used to wear that stupid hat... Gideon Prewett, it took five Death Eaters to kill him and his brother Fabian, they fought like heroes... budge along, budge along... That's Dumbledore's brother, Aberforth, only time I ever met him, strange bloke..."
It was the first time she'd ever seen of her grandfather. He looked a lot like Dumbledore, but he lacked the warm gaze and the fancy robes. He had the same hair colour as her though, and there was a similarity between his nose and her dad's.
"That's Dorcas Meadowes, Voldemort killed her personally... Sirius, when he still had short hair... and... there you go, thought that would interest you! Eh?"
Five people were staring up at them: Petter Pettigrew, Lily and James Potter, and her own parents.
"That's great," She tried to sound enthusiastic. "Look at that..."
"Yeah," Harry's voice sounded heavy. "Er... listen, I've just remembered, I haven't packed my..."
"What's that you've got there, Mad-Eye?" Sirius asked loudly from the table.
Harry left so quickly she almost thought he'd disapparated, she understood though, that picture was full of ghosts, and for some reason, she felt kind of responsible for them– maybe Harry felt that way too, after all, it was him Voldemort was after...
The adults surrounded the table and stared at the picture, there were tons of quiet exclamations and nostalgic chuckles as they examined it, but what made her leave the room was the way she knew her mother and Sirius had finally found their friends' faces staring up at them, she could see something dark and heavy falling on their features.
Mel didn't feel like sticking around to hear stories about when they were all young and alive, when Peter was still Peter and not the traitor that had gotten his friends killed. It was stupid to remember something they couldn't have back.
She was in the main hall when she heard someone crying.
"No! No... riddikulus! Riddikulus! RIDDIKULUS !"
Mel ran up the stairs and found Harry looking at Mrs Weasley... She was sobbing above a second Harry, only that this one was dead.
'Boggart', Mel thought.
"Harry, we need to get help–"
"Mrs Weasley, just get out of here!" Harry's eyes fixed on the vision of his own body. "Let someone else —"
"What's going on?" Lupin rushed in followed by Sirius and Emily. Moody was right behind them."Riddikulus!"
Mrs Weasley wept harder.
"Molly– Molly, don't... Molly, it was just a boggart," Lupin patted her head gently. "Just a stupid boggart..."
"I see them d-d-dead all the time! All the t-t-time! I d-d-dream about it..."
She had been dreaming the same thing that summer– hell, her boggart had been the same thing years before that! Seeing it again that night caught her off guard. A thousand different images of Harry trapped in the cemetery came to her, the pain she'd felt that night, the memory of Cedric's body laying on the grass...
She tried to get out of the room as fast as possible.
"D-d-don't tell Arthur– I d-d-don't want him to know... Being silly... Harry, I'm so sorry, what must you think of me? Not even able to get rid of a boggart..."
"Don't be stupid," said Harry, sounding impressively calm.
"I'm just s-s-so worried– Half the f-f-family's in the Order, it'll b-b-be a miracle if we all come through this... and P-P-Percy's not talking to us... What if something d-d-dreadful happens and we had never m-m-made up? And what's going to happen if Arthur and I get killed, who's g-g-going to look after Ron and Ginny?"
"Molly, that's enough," said Lupin. "This isn't like last time. The Order is better prepared, we've got a head start, we know what Voldemort's up to — Oh, Molly, come on, it's about time you got used to hearing it — look, I can't promise no one's going to get hurt, nobody can promise that, but we're much better off than we were last time, you weren't in the Order then, you don't understand, last time we were outnumbered twenty to one by the Death Eaters and they were picking us off one by one..."
"Don't worry about Percy," said Sirius. "He'll come round. It's a matter of time before Voldemort moves into the open; once he does, the whole Ministry's going to be begging us to forgive them. And I'm not sure I'll be accepting their apology..."
"And as for who's going to look after Ron and Ginny if you and Arthur died," Lupin looked up to Emily and smiled a bit, "what do you think we'd do, let them starve?"
"Certainly not!" Emily kneeled beside her, hugging her by the shoulders. "Not after all you've done for us! After seeing how much you care about Harry! You're one of the best friends I've had in a long time, I would never abandon your children..."
Harry turned and locked eyes with Mel. He had a distraught expression on his face as he watched her cover her mouth, struggling to breathe.
One time when she was six, Mel had to be taken to the nurse because some kids cornered her in the playground and she lost it; a teacher carried her out. When her mother arrived they told her Mel had suffered a panic attack.
A panic attack wasn't exactly a good omen nor the best way to spend her last night before going back to school, but she had no control over it.
"Deep breaths, Mel..." Harry muttered, quickly making his way towards her. "It's okay–"
The boy tried to touch her and that stirred her into action. Mel slapped his hand out of the way and ran out before someone could stop her. She ran up all the way to Buckbeak's layer and she locked herself there until her crying stopped.
"WILL YOU LOT GET DOWN HERE NOW, PLEASE!" Mrs Weasley yelled.
Mel let out a pained groan, her head was pounding after last night and all she wanted was to get to the train so she could take a nap. Mrs Black's portrait was howling, but no one tried to close the curtains since the house was loud with voices coming from every floor, all gathering their stuff before leaving.
"I'm dying," The girl leaned on her mother's shoulder. The woman ran her fingers through her hair tenderly.
"You had a rough night. Been years since you had one of those..."
"It was the stupid boggart," She muttered. "I'm okay now. I'll see Erick, so that's kind of cool..."
"You and Harry haven't talked, then?"
"Mum..."
"I'm not trying to force you–"
"Oh, for heaven's sake, Sirius, Dumbledore said no!"
A dog ran into the hall, looking rather lively.
"Oh honestly... well, on your own head be it!"
Mrs Weasley, Emily, Mel, Harry and Sirius all left the house together.
"Where's Tonks?" Harry asked.
"She's waiting for us just up here," said Mrs Weasley.
"Wotcher, guys," Tonks -disguised as an old woman- winked at them. "Better hurry up, hadn't we?"
"I know, I know... but Mad-Eye wanted to wait for Sturgis... If only Arthur could have got us cars from the Ministry again... but Fudge wouldn't let him borrow so much as an empty ink bottle these days... How Muggles can stand travelling without magic..."
Sirius was having the time of his life though, running around chasing pigeons and barking loudly. Mel and Harry laughed at his antics, Emily rolled her eyes and mumbled something about him being a child.
As they walked through the streets watching Sirius chase cats and go crazy with the poor birds, she felt Harry glancing at her from time to time. Mel knew he only wanted to help, and perhaps he was a little hurt about the way she'd reacted last night. However, she was far from even acknowledging that she'd cried in front of so many people.
"I felt it, you know?" Harry said when no one was paying attention. "Your panic attack..."
"I figured," Mel said numbly. "It's the lifeline... doesn't matter, I have it under control."
"I could've helped," He insisted. "When we were little–"
"We're not little anymore," She replied sternly. "You handle your stuff, I handle mine. That's what we agreed on."
Harry's jaw clenched, he didn't speak after that.
It felt like a type of rebirth when she crossed the platform and found herself in front of the scarlet train.
"I hope the others make it in time," said Mrs Weasley.
"Nice dog, guys!" called Lee Jordan.
"Thanks, Lee," said Harry.
Sirius made a show of himself, acting as the perfect puppy.
"Mel, come here for a moment," Emily drew her away from the group, looking anxious.
"What is it?"
"I didn't say anything until now because I didn't want to make you uncomfortable during your stay but... oh, well..."
She noticed how her mother glanced at Sirius, who was rolling around at Harry's feet.
"Mum... Are you and Sirius... a thing?"
Her mother hesitated.
"I know you've noticed how... I mean, we've... we're not exactly together."
"Oh," She frowned. "Why not?"
"What?"
"If you want to be a couple, then be one."
"I... you... you're not upset?"
Mel gave her a small smile. "You deserve to be happy. I want you to be happy. If being with Sirius gives you that, I have nothing against it. He's a good man– bit stubborn, but he treats you well, right?"
"He was always a good friend..."
"I hope all goes well, then."
The woman stared as if she'd mistaken Mel for someone else.
"You have more of Matthew than you could ever have of me, you know?" Emily beamed. "I'm thankful for that."
"Sirius would be an idiot if he rejects you, to be honest."
Her mother laughed.
"Don't get your hopes up about this, though..."
"I trust you," Mel brushed it off, hugging her one last time before going back to the group.
Five minutes later Lupin was wishing her a safe journey. Mel held onto him tightly, his scent filling her lungs.
"I'm going to miss you lots," She mumbled against his chest.
"You'll see me soon," Lupin rubbed her back. "Now, just because you weren't made a prefect doesn't mean you're allowed to misbehave. Make us proud."
Sirius ran up to her and crashed against her legs, she kneeled and hugged him as well.
"I'll miss you too, Snuffles... look after my mother while I'm gone, okay?"
He barked, snuggling his face closer to hers.
"Well, look after yourselves," Lupin told the rest of the teenagers. "You too, Harry. Be careful."
"Yeah, keep your head down and your eyes peeled," said Moody. "And don't forget, all of you — careful what you put in writing. If in doubt, don't put it in a letter at all."
"It's been great meeting all of you," said Tonks. "We'll see you soon, I expect."
"Quick, quick," said Mrs Weasley as the whistle blew a second time. "Write... Be good... If you've forgotten anything we'll send it on... Onto the train, now, hurry..."
For one brief moment, the great black dog reared onto its hind legs and placed its front paws on Harry's shoulders, but Mrs Weasley shoved Harry away toward the train door hissing, "For heaven's sake act more like a dog, Sirius!"
"See you!" Harry yelled from the door.
The black dog chased the train barking madly until they turned, then he vanished.
"He shouldn't have come with us," Hermione murmured.
"Oh lighten up, he hasn't seen daylight for months, poor bloke," Ron shook his head.
"Well, can't stand around chatting all day, we've got business to discuss with Lee. Are you coming with us, Lady?" Fred asked.
"Maybe later," She shrugged.
"All right, see you later!"
"Shall we go and find a compartment, then?" Harry asked.
"Er..."
"We're — well — Ron and I are supposed to go into the prefect carriage," Hermione said awkwardly.
Suddenly Mel felt really bad about not going with Fred and George.
"Oh," Harry tensed next to her. "Right. Fine."
"I don't think we'll have to stay there all journey," said the girl. "Our letters said we just get instructions from the Head Boy and Girl and then patrol the corridors from time to time."
"Fine– Well, we... might see you later, then."
"Yeah, definitely. It's a pain having to go down there, I'd rather — but we have to — I mean, I'm not enjoying it, I'm not Percy."
"I know you're not," said Harry.
"I'll tell Erick you say hi, Mel," Hermione offered, thinking that would ease her mind.
"Brilliant," She said without much excitement.
"Come on," Ginny spoke, Mel felt immense relief as she turned to look at the girl, "if we get a move on we'll be able to save them places."
"Right," said Harry, and he looked as pleased as her.
After a while of silent walking, they ran into Neville, which was even better, more people to talk to.
"Hi, guys– Hi, Ginny... Everywhere's full... I can't find a seat..."
"What are you talking about?" said Ginny. "There's room in this one, there's only Loony Lovegood in here —"
"I don't want to disturb anyone..."
"Don't be silly," Ginny chuckled. "She's all right."
They all followed her inside.
"Hi, Luna! Is it okay if we take these seats?"
The girl beside the window looked up. She had straggly, waist-length, dirty-blond hair, very pale eyebrows, and protuberant eyes that gave her a permanently surprised look. Harry knew at once why Neville had chosen to pass this compartment by. The girl gave off an aura of distinct dottiness. Perhaps it was the fact that she had stuck her wand behind her left ear for safekeeping, or that she had chosen to wear a necklace of butterbeer caps, or that she was reading a magazine upside down. Her eyes ranged over Neville and came to rest on Harry. She nodded.
"Thanks," said Ginny.
In the middle of all the movement of putting away trunks and pets, Mel and Harry somehow found themselves seated together. The girl thought it'd look suspicious if she were to move now, it would confirm that she was actively avoiding him.
"Had a good summer, Luna?" Ginny asked.
"Yes. Yes, it was quite enjoyable, you know. You're Harry Potter."
"I know I am," said Harry, frowning slightly.
Her eyes then moved to the next person, which happened to be her.
"You're a Dumbledore."
"Yeah, people keep saying that," Mel said.
Luna moved to Neville. "And I don't know who you are."
"I'm nobody," He said.
"No you're not," said Ginny. "Neville Longbottom — Luna Lovegood. Luna's in my year, but in Ravenclaw."
"Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure," sang Luna.
"Guess what I got for my birthday?" Neville asked them.
"Another Remembrall?" Harry teased.
"No– I could do with one, though, I lost the old one ages ago... No, look at this... Mimbulus mimbletonia."
"Sick!" Mel beamed. "Er- in a good way..."
"It's really, really rare," said Neville excitedly. "I don't know if there's one in the greenhouse at Hogwarts, even. I can't wait to show it to Professor Sprout. My great-uncle Algie got it for me in Assyria. I'm going to see if I can breed from it."
"If you do manage, I'd love to have one," Mel eyed the plant with interest.
Harry did a strange noise next to her and she stared back, daring him to speak.
"Does it — er — do anything?" He asked, glancing nervously at her.
"Loads of stuff! It's got an amazing defensive mechanism — hold Trevor for me..."
Neville put the toad on Harry's hands. Luna was staring again.
Neville held the Mimbulus mimbletonia up to his eyes, his tongue between his teeth, chose his spot and gave the plant a sharp prod with the tip of his quill.
Liquid squirted from every boil on the plant, thick, stinking, dark-green jets of it; they hit the ceiling, the windows, and spattered Luna Lovegood's magazine. Ginny, who had flung her arms up in front of her face just in time, merely looked as though she was wearing a slimy green hat, but Harry, whose hands had been busy preventing the escape of Trevor, received a face full. It smelled like rancid manure.
Neville, whose face and torso were also drenched, shook his head to get the worst out of his eyes.
"S-sorry," he gasped. "I haven't tried that before... Didn't realize it would be quite so... Don't worry, though, Stinksap's not poisonous," he added nervously, as Harry spat a mouthful onto the floor.
Mel cackled, cleaning her face without an ounce of grumpiness.
"That was amazing!"
The door of their compartment slid open abruptly.
"Oh... hello, Harry. Um... bad time?" Cho stared at the lot with an anxious expression.
"Oh... hi," Harry quickly tried to clean his face.
"It's a terrible time," Mel said brightly, "We stink."
"Um... well... just thought I'd say hello... 'bye then."
Cho Chang was blushing when she closed the door. She heard Harry groan and fall back on his seat.
"Never mind," said Ginny. "Look, we can get rid of all this easily. Scourgify!"
"Sorry," said Neville timidly.
"Don't be, that was really interesting to watch," Mel smiled.
Neville blushed at her comment.
"I'm starving," Ron walked in, Mel quickly made room between her and Harry, which he took without even noticing.
"Well, there are two fifth-year prefects from each House," said Hermione. "Boy and girl from each."
"And guess who's a Slytherin prefect?" said Ron.
"Malfoy," replied Harry.
" 'Course," Ron made a face.
"And that complete cow Pansy Parkinson," said Hermione to Mel. "How she got to be a prefect when she's thicker than a concussed troll..."
"Cheating of course," Mel shrugged.
"Who's Hufflepuff?" Harry asked.
"Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbott," said Ron.
"And Anthony Goldstein and Padma Patil for Ravenclaw," said Hermione. "Oh! Erick seemed fine, Mel– couldn't talk to him because of Malfoy, of course..."
"We're supposed to patrol the corridors every so often," Ron explained, "and we can give out punishments if people are misbehaving. I can't wait to get Crabbe and Goyle for something..."
"You're not supposed to abuse your position, Ron!"
"Yeah, right, because Malfoy won't abuse it at all."
"So you're going to descend to his level?"
"No, I'm just going to make sure I get his mates before he gets mine."
"For heaven's sake, Ron —"
"He's not being unfair, is he?" Mel defended him. "If anyone deserves detention, that's them..."
"I'll make Goyle do lines, it'll kill him, he hates writing," Ron then pretended to be the Slytherin. "I... must... not... look... like... a... baboon's... backside..."
Everyone laughed, but nobody laughed harder than Luna Lovegood. She let out a scream of mirth that caused Hedwig to wake up and flap her wings indignantly and Crookshanks to leap up into the luggage rack, hissing. She laughed so hard that her magazine slipped out of her grasp, slid down her legs, and onto the floor.
"That was funny!"
Her prominent eyes swam with tears as she gasped for breath, staring at Ron. Utterly nonplussed, he looked around at the others, who were now laughing at the expression on Ron's face and at the ludicrously prolonged laughter of Luna Lovegood, who was rocking backward and forward, clutching her sides.
"Are you taking the mickey?"
"Baboon's... backside!"
"Hey, Lovegood," Mel grinned. "We're going to be great friends..."
"Can I have a look at this?" Harry asked Luna. He was staring at the magazine she'd dropped. "Mel, have a look at this, will you?"
He was showing her an article over Ron's shoulder.
SIRIUS - Black As He's Painted?
Notorious Mass Murderer OR Innocent Singing Sensation?
For fourteen years Sirius Black has been believed guilty of the mass murder of twelve innocent Muggles and one wizard. Black's audacious escape from Azkaban two years ago has led to the widest manhunt ever conducted by the Ministry of Magic. None of us has ever questioned that he deserves to be recaptured and handed back to the dementors.
BUT DOES HE?
"What is this?" Mel asked, her voice slightly shaking with contained laughter.
"Hang on," Harry said distractedly. "This one's about Fudge.."
Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, denied that he had any plans to take over the running of the Wizarding Bank, Gringotts, when he was elected Minister of Magic five years ago. Fudge has always insisted that he wants nothing more than to "cooperate peacefully" with the guardians of our gold.
BUT DOES HE?
Sources close to the Minister have recently disclosed that Fudge's dearest ambition is to seize control of the goblin gold supplies and that he will not hesitate to use force if need be.
"It wouldn't be the first time, either," said a Ministry insider. "Cornelius 'Goblin-Crusher' Fudge, that's what his friends call him..."
"Anything good in there?" asked Ron.
"Of course not," said Hermione. "The Quibbler's rubbish, everyone knows that."
"Excuse me," said Luna. "My father's the editor."
Mel had to bit her lip to not make a sound.
"I — oh. Well... it's got some interesting... I mean, it's quite..."
"I'll have it back, thank you," Luna took back the magazine and buried her face behind it.
The door to the compartment opened again.
"What?" Harry snapped at Malfoy.
"Manners, Potter, or I'll have to give you a detention... You see, I, unlike you, have been made a prefect, which means that I, unlike you, have the power to hand out punishments."
"Yeah, but you, unlike me, are a git, so get out and leave us alone."
The group laughed. Mel felt something crawling up her chest, ready to pounce.
"Tell me, how does it feel being second-best to Weasley, Potter?"
"Shut up, Malfoy," said Hermione.
"I seem to have touched a nerve... Well, just watch yourself, Potter, because I'll be dogging your footsteps in case you step out of line."
"Get out!" said Hermione sharply.
Mel's heart skipped a beat.
Dogging.

☞ NAME: Gideon Prewett. ☞ AGE: Twenty-One (06.30.1958). ☞ BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood. ☞ HOUSE: Former Gryffindor. ☞ GENDER: Cis-male. ☞ FACECLAIM: Jack Reynor.
+ THE STORY SO FAR +
Ah, the Prewett twins. That’s what was usually heard whenever they were referred to in casual conversation. Everyone knew who they were. They were the fun-loving, charming, vivacious younger brothers of Molly Weasley (the mother of all mothers). She was nine years older than them and developed her world-renowned maternal instincts from the day of their birth. She was a big help to their parents as there were two of them, they frequently misbehaved, and their magic began showing itself at the incredibly tender age of ten months old. Their family was a loving one, growing every day as Molly married Arthur Weasley who had a large family of his own. When Bill Weasley was born, the twins were only twelve years old.
They seldom remembered a time when they didn’t have nephews running around all over the place, making equally as big of a mess as they were capable of. The noise was encouraged in their household. After Bill came Charlie, then Percy, and finally on First April 1978, Fred and George were brought into the world. Fabian and Gideon had high hopes for the future of Gryffindor pranksters in those two. They wrote them journals full of elaborate pranks, jokes, and general musing to live by (example: don’t eat yellow snow unless you saw the lemon). Despite their love for practical jokes, the twins excelled as a fighting team. They were beaters on the Gryffindor quidditch team, headed up the dueling club and soared high above their classmates in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
When Albus approached them shortly after their graduation with a job offer in a secret organization against death eaters, they shared merely a look before agreeing. They wanted to be a part of the war in a big way. Through the Order, they knew they could be. They didn’t think about the consequences that might come with it. They only thought about the people they loved, the future they wanted for their family, their nephews. When Elphias, Albus, and Fabian apparated into Arabella’s home on that October night, Gideon had been laughing. Aberforth was telling a rather unbecoming story of his youth involving a barrel of Scotch and a goat. “Fab, you gotta hear this story. Tell it again, Abe!” He had said before swinging around to greet his brother▬ who was lying on the ground, his head crooked at an odd angle. Gideon’s laughter died on the air. He was on his knees beside his brother in an instant. He already knew, he could feel it in his body. There was no saving Fabian because he was already gone.
- J U N E 1 9 7 9 -
Gideon had heard nothing from the Order in about six months. He wondered idly if they were laying low or if they had disbanded completely after such a tragic loss. Benjy and Caradoc had been his friends. He fought alongside them numerous times over the months they’d been in service together. He trusted them with his life, his brothers life. When Albus appeared on Emmeline’s doorstep some time in April, Gideon thought he must be dreaming. The old man sat him down while Emmeline was off at work and asked him if he wanted to remain a part of the coalition. He wouldn’t hold it against him if he didn’t. He asked Aberforth himself to resign, fearing for a similar loss of his own. Gideon considered resigning. He was out of shape from the past few months as he did little more than roam around with Emmeline. He didn’t train anymore, didn’t practice defensive magic. He would need to start working hard in order to be ready again. Could he do it without Fabian? He honestly wasn’t sure. But knowing his brother and how he would feel about him letting himself go to such waste, he couldn’t bring himself to say no. Heaving a great sigh, as though he weren’t entirely sure it was a good idea, Gideon shook his head. “I’m not resigning. I have to be there.”

← Emmeline Vance
Albus had taken Fabian’s body to Saint Mungo’s to be prepared. He told Gideon he would make the funeral arrangements for him. He could tell that he was trying to take some of the burden off of him and Gideon was grateful. They all asked him to stay, told him he was free to grieve in peace at Arabella’s house, but he couldn’t be there anymore. He couldn’t breathe it was so stuffy. Gideon apparated right into the middle of Charing Cross Road, unaware, uncaring of who might see him. He found his way to the Leaky Cauldron and bought a bottle from the keeper there. He wandered around West End until he found the bottom of it. It broke against the pavement with a shatter as he stumbled his way down the road. Gideon wasn’t completely sure how, but he found himself outside Emmeline’s house at the end of the night. He force himself into the gate and tripped over a chair on his way up to the door. Before he knew it, he was on the ground, huddled against the front door from the chilling wind around him. Gideon didn’t know if Emmeline was inside or not, never got the chance to knock on the door. But he figured she would’ve heard him if she was. His head bobbed, eyes glided shut and he dozed off until an offensively bright light brought him back to earth however long later. “Emme?” He’d said, a deep, deep down part of himself scolding him for being so vulnerable to attack that night. It was just Emmeline, though. His friend, Emmeline. She helped him to his feet and inside her house. He’d started spilling the truth to her before she even asked for it. It took him a moment, but once he started talking, he couldn’t actually stop. Dumbledore told him they’d have to come up with a cover story, but he found himself unable to lie to her. In fact, he wanted her to know. He needed to tell someone that hadn’t been there, to let some air out of his chest. She had been so still, eyeing him tenderly but from a distance. It wasn’t what he wanted, so bold as he was in that moment, he asked for it. He pulled her in and let himself cry for the first time in years. And once he started, so did she and neither of them were truly able to stop until well into the next day. Before he knew it, he was there all the time. Gideon couldn’t bring himself to return to the flat he shared with Fabian and he knew that Emmeline understood that. There was part of him that didn’t want to overstay his welcome, but a bigger part that wanted (needed) to rely on her company every night.
← Amelia & Edgar Bones
Amelia and Edgar Bones were twins. He remembered them from school, but he had never actually known them personally. He would observe them endlessly and in this, find both a likeness and a vast difference between their relationship and his with Fabian. The love was there. They had a bond only twins could understand, but the partnership was absent. Amelia acted more like a caretaker than a sibling, and in turn Edgar seemed to need more from her than she could give. They weren’t a balanced scale, they didn’t know each other’s next move, couldn’t read directly into the brainwaves the other sent like Fabian and Gideon could. Despite these things, being around them wasn’t any easier. Their birthday was a mere two weeks after his own, the first one he had to spend with them and without his brother. Amelia was sweet and had a good head on her shoulders. She was quick on her toes and a good dueler, but she didn’t know real loss and that was completely evident to Gideon. Edgar, likewise, was good at storytelling. He was obviously hiding something from his sister that made him paranoid and inconsistent. Maybe it was a mean thought, but Gideon found them a sorry excuse for twins and they made the hole in his heart throb like it was still a brand new wound.
→ Frank Longbottom
Frank Longbottom had been the gangling boy that shared a dorm with them. They met on the first day, immediately taking a liking to each other. Frank told the twins about his best friend Alice and her cool roommate, Emmeline, and the five of them became and odd pair. Of course, no one could rival the bond between brothers or life long friends, but they enjoyed each other nevertheless. They remained friends all through school and upon graduating, took part in Frank and Alice’s wedding. They helped them move their stuff in together, threw them a large engagement party with a large variety of alcohol that Frank guessed was somehow stolen. They drifted apart naturally when life got busy. Frank and Alice were in the auror program, Fabian and Gideon were in the Order and weren’t allowed to talk about it, Emmeline was studying to be a healer. But the love was still there. Once the shock of initially losing Fabian wore off, Gideon realized he would have to tell their friends and family about Fabian’s death in a way that didn’t give anything away, all the while honoring the fact that his brother died a valiant soldier. It seemed like an impossible task at the time, but he managed to do it. Frank had been the hardest. Instead of telling him the ‘official’ story, he gave him a small piece of the truth. “I can’t tell you how,” he’d admitted. “But he died a hero.”
→ Alice Longbottom
Gideon had never been exceedingly close to Alice. In school she had been Frank’s best friend and Emmeline’s roommate. Then she became Frank’s girlfriend and later on, his wife. They were there every step of the way and cheered them on endlessly, but Alice and the twins never exactly got quality time alone together. They were a five-some, or they were Frank and Alice, Gideon and Fabian, Alice and Emmeline, or even Gideon, Fabian, and Emmeline. Rarely was there any Fabian, Gideon, and Alice. So despite the love she had for them and they for her, their relationship wasn’t deep. That is, until after they lost Fabian. Alice showed up at Emmeline’s place one night, expecting to find her. She had been called into work, however, and Gideon had been there alone. He had answered the door to her surprise and explained the situation. Alice left and Gideon went back to sitting in the silence, lost to the swirling, whirling thoughts inside his head. She had only been gone a few seconds when she returned, however, and when he answered the door this time, she pushed her way into the house and went immediately for the kettle on the stove. As she made them some tea, she flicked her wand and the furniture in the living room rearranged itself so that there was a large space on the floor covered in blankets and pillows. Alice carried the tea into the space and sat down, beckoning him over. As if in a daze, he obliged. She was shuffling a deck of exploding snap cards when he lowered himself across from her. She was smiling, but it was a little too casual. “What are you doing?” He was finally able to ask. She started dealing out the cards before them as she explained that Frank had been her biggest contributor to moving on from the death of her younger brother and all they would do was play games until she couldn’t hold her eyes open anymore. It was like someone had splashed Gideon in the face with cold water. He suddenly remembered that Alice had lost a sibling too, several years before. He asked her if she would be willing to talk about him, to which she replied that after such a stretch of time, she would be happy to. This led them to staying up well into the night talking about their lost siblings, then their living ones, then their parents and onto the rest of their families. After that, Gideon had an insurmountable love and admiration for Alice that wouldn’t likely be rivaled.

unpopular opinion galore ! / @cataclysmicdesign / accepting
LET’S TALK ABOUT DUMBLEDORE’S “ABANDONMENT” OF SIRIUS BLACK. the “abandonment” is in quotes because there was none, not in my pretty brown eyes anyways. it was all about Murphy’s Law : everything that could go wrong…will. let’s go back to the b e g i n n i n g of it all. October 31st, 1981.
“Naturally,” said Professor McGonagall, James Potter told Dumbledore that Black would die rather than tell where they were, that Black was planning to go into hiding himself….. and yet, Dumbledore remained worried. I remember him offering to be the Potters’ Secret Keeper himself.”
“He suspected Black?” gasped Madam Rosmerta.
“He was sure that somebody close to the Potters had been keeping You-Know-Who informed of their movements, said Professor McGonagall darkly. “indeed, he had suspected for some time that someone on our side had turned traitor and was passing a lot of information to You-Know-Who.”
“But James Potter insisted on using Black?”
“He did,” said Fudge heavily. “ And then, barely a week after the Fidelius Charm had been performed - “
Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban Page 205
First, it is important to note that Sirius Black himself was planning to go into hiding. Second, all eyes are on Sirius Black. Remus thinks him a traitor. Dumbledore does as well. In Dumledore’s defense, this is the year of 1981, a week before the charm was cast. He is a man, a person, but most importantly a general. The state of his mind is important to note. He was the general of the Original Order. This was his team. Yes, there were other leaders within the organization, but he recruited this team ! And “a lot of information” was be passed to Voldemort. A PART OF THAT INFORMATION HAD TO BE IDENTITIES. Remember : the order was a secret organization & where the majority of the team were annihilated within that time frame.
“There’s me,” said Moody unnecessarily, pointing at himself. The Moody in the picture was unmistakable, though his hair was slightly less gray and his nose was intact. “And there’s Dumbledore beside me, Dedalus Diggle on the other side …. That’s Marlene Mckinnon, she was killed two weeks after this was taken, they got her whole family. That’s Frank and Alice Longbottom…. Poor Devils,” growled Moody. “Better dead than what happened to them…and that’s Emmeline Vance, you’ve met her, and that there’s Lupin, obviously … Benjy Fenwick, he copped it too, we only ever found bits of him… shift aside there,” he added, poking the picture, and the little photographic people edged sideways, so that those were partially obscured could move to the front. “That’s Edgar Bones…brother of Amelia Bones, they got him and his family too, he was a great wizard… Sturgis Podmore, blimey, he looks young…Caradoc Dearborn, vanished six months after this, we never found his body…Hagrid, of course, looks exactly the same as ever… Elphias Doge, you’ve met him, I’d forgotten he used to wear that stupid hat…Gideon Prewett, it took five Death Eaters to kill him and his brother Fabian, they fought like heroes… budge along, budge along…That’s Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth, only time I ever met him, strange bloke…. That’s Dorcas Meadowes, Voldemort killed her personally…. Sirius, when he still had short hair…. and … there you go, thought that would interest you!”
Alastor Moody, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 173-174
Look at all the death. All the slaughters. All the annihilations. These deaths were not easy, they were extravagant, needed man power to kill those that had to be killed. the team he assembled, aided in assembling, dead. died. The anxiousness building up in him to protect those who are left is apparent with James & Lily, even more so with them because they are his hail mary. the last lingering hope that this war will be over & won. Because : remember : he is a general. He works like Alastor Moody, a strategic mind to have the less damage occur as possible. This is how the Order thrived with being so out numbered, with people like these two constructing plans to get the less amount of casualties. Then 1981 hit & shit went everywhere. Those dead, someone in the Order FELT responsible. Someone knew the Potters step by steps. I don’t think he would have picked anyone but himself to be “THE SECRET KEEPER” of the Potters because of what this war is c o s t i n g him & everyone around him. JAMES INSISTED. thus, here we are back to the night of October 31st, 1981.
“I met him!” growled Hagrid. “I musta bin the last ter see him before he killed all them people! It was me what rescued Harry from Lily an’ James’s house after they was killed! Jus’ got him outta the ruins, poor little thing, with a great slash across his forehead, an’ his parents dead…. an’ Sirius Black turns up, on that flyin’ motorbike he used ter ride. Never occured ter me what he was doin’ there. I didn’ know he’d bin Lily an’ James’s Secret- Keeper. Thought he’d jus’ heard the news o’ You-Know-Who’s attack an’ come ter see what he could do. White an’ shakin’, he was. An’ yeh know what I did? I COMFORTED THE MURDERIN’ TRAITOR!” Hagrid roared.
“Hagrid, please!” said Professor McGonagall. “Keep Your voice down!”
"How was I ter know he wasn’ upset abou’ Lily an’ James? It was You-Know-Who he cared about’! An’ then he says, ‘Give Harry ter me, Hagrid, I’m his godfather, I’ll look after him - HA! But I’d had me orders from Dumbledore, an’ I told Black no, Dumbledore said Harry was ter go ter his aunt an’ uncle’s. Black argued, but in the end he gave in. Told me ter take his motorbike ter get Harry there. ‘I won’t need it anymore,’ he says.
” I shoulda known there was somethin’ fishy goin’ on then. He loved that motorbike, what was he givin’ it ter me for? Why wouldn’ he need it anymore? Fact was, it was too easy ter trace. Dumbledore knew he’d bin the Potters’ Secret-Keeper. Black knew he was goin’ ter run fer it that night, knew it was a matter o’ hours before the Ministry was after him.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 206 - 207
Actual testimony of the last person who saw Sirius Black before the incident with Peter Pettigrew. No one knew they switched the Secret Keeper jobs. A conscious choice Sirius made to throw everyone off the track, even Lupin, even Dumbledore. This is important when I talk about evidence displayed pretty soon.
“Alas if only we had,” said Fudge bitterly ( about Sirius Black not disappearing ), “It was not we who found him. It was little Peter Pettigrew - another of the Potter’s friends. Maddened by grief, no doubt, and knowing that Black had been the Potters’ Secret Keeper, he went after Black himself.”
Pettigrew…that fat little boy who was always tagging around after them at Hogwarts? said Madam Rosmerta.
“Pettigrew died a hero’s death. Eyewitnesses - Muggles, of course, we wiped their memories later - told us how Pettigrew cornered Black. They say he was sobbing, ‘Lily and James, Sirius! How could you?” And then he went for his wand. Well, of course, Black was quicker. Blew Pettigrew to smithereens……… I will never forget it. I still dream about it sometimes. A crater in the middle of the street, so deep it had cracked the sewer below. Bodies everywhere. Muggles screaming. And Black standing there laughing, with what was left of Pettigrew in front of him…
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Page 207-208
Officially, no one can speak for Sirius Black. Look at the evidence of eye witnesses above which is the relevance of me putting this all in this extremely long post. The majority of the Order is killed, the Order knew there was a leak, everyone believed Sirius to be the Secret Keeper, & everyone believed it was Sirius. THE WAR IS OVER. A war that has plagued this war for over a decade. The countless disappearances, deaths, & tortured. People were out in the streets have a PARTY! because finally they can breathe again. they can move on with their lives. They can go outside & not fear the inevitable happening ( minus the Longbottoms…. ). Unfortunately, tragically, the war is not over for everyone. Trauma is still instilled in the minds of people like those of Dumbledore, those like Moody because this is the time period where he is hunting down remaining Death Eaters, losing his leg, eye, & part of his nose. The government who is left in scrambles trying to tie everything up in a nice, tidy bow had Sirius Black handed to them on a platter L A U G H I N G, showing no remorse. showing no innocence. Was it wrong for him not to have a trial ? yes. did he proclaim his innocence ? no. AND WHY THE FUCK SHOULD DUMBLEDORE BELIEVE HE IS INNOCENT ? there is no reason. none. everything people think they know is not correct. WHAT YOU KNOW AS A READER IS NOT WHAT DUMBLEDORE KNOWS. NOT WHAT ALASTOR MOODY KNOWS. IT IS NOT WHAT REMUS LUPIN KNOWS OR THE SURVIVOR OF THE ORDER dealing with the wreckage of what happened.
SIRIUS BLACK IS NOT ACTING INNOCENT & THERE IS NO ONE AROUND TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF HIS INNOCENCE. James & Lily are dead. Peter is a rat, somewhere, finding Percy Weasley, & Remus Lupin is in full throttle mode mourning over the deaths of James, Lily & Peter, & hating Sirius with all of his ever living might - as he should in this situation.
Is it right ? no. but ! I can see it. I would have wanted this cold asshole to have gone to prison for life, he is lucky he didn’t get the kiss at this point, let’s all be honest ! he was not someone crying his innocence, abandoned by Dumbledore. HE ACTED GUILTY. There was too much proof to the version of the story that happened to make him guilty. As I said, there was no trial ; but evidence was given. i.e. all the eyewitness testimony from above & DUMBLEDORE.
"It is your turn to listen, and I beg you will not interrupt me, because there is very little time,” he said quietly. “There is not a shred of proof to support Black’s story, except your word - and the word of two thirteen year old wizards will not convince anybody. A street full of eyewitnesses swore they saw Sirius murder Pettigrew. I myself gave evidence to the Ministry that Sirius had been the Potter’s Secret Keeper.”
"Proffersor Lupin is currently deep in the forest, unable to tell anyone anything. By the time he is human again, it will be too late, Sirius will be worse than dead. I might add that werewolves are so mistrusted by most of our kind that his support will count for very little - and the fact that he and Sirius are old friends - “
"But”
"Listen to me, Harry. It is too late, you understand me? You must see that Professor Snape’s version of events is far more convincing than yours.”
"He hates Sirius,” Hermione said desperately. “All because of some stupid trick Sirius played on him - “
“Sirius has not acted like an innocent man. The attack on the Fat Lady - entering Gryffindor Tower with a knife - without Pettigrew, alive or dead, we have no chance of overturning Sirius’s sentence.”
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 392-393
Someone call Sirius Black’s legal team & teach him how to act like an innocent man please. At this point, when Dumbledore finally has the full story, you can see how Sirius was not abandoned as an innocent man. Sirius Black was a part of Dumbledore’s recruited original Order. He made a mistake. Human. The General was doing justice for all those whose identities got linked & were killed through the traitor. Now, he is desperate. Giving Hermione & Harry more time ( literally ) to save Sirius Black, a man who is innocent. A man who never seemed innocent. That every shred of evidence is more convincing than any other version of the story itself. The full on documentation between the lines that he is trying to amend what happened twelve years before. Dumbledore can be wrong. Twelve years before, he was not responsible for letting Sirius Black go to Azkaban. It was Sirius Black’s fault, the majority of it, acting the way he did. The premeditated giving his motorbike away to Hagrid because “he didn’t need it anymore” murder. The eyewitness. HIM LAUGHING. He presented himself in a nice little package at the Ministry’s door step, g u i l t y . Dumbledore wanted justice for his team. For the Potters. Sirius Black would have never left that building alive if ever found innocent. Stop saying that Dumbledore just let him go to prison. That is not the case. Sirius Black was not abandoned by him. Dumbledore believed him to be guilty for the reasons literally stated in the text above. Of what happened in the year of 1981. yes, the no trial was a tragedy & another subject, but sirius going to azkaban is his own fault, not dumbledore’s. Thank you & good night.

The fall of the Marauders.
A/N: I've never written anything on here and English isn't my first language so... I'm not sure if this is going to work. But, if you like it, please let me know. And if you see a typo, please, correct me!
All the heroes fall, by Holliday McAlister
A year has passed since Lord Voldemort’s fall in that Halloween of the ‘81 and that’s why today I want to take a moment to remember those war’s wounds that, in days like today, hurt the most, making as remember why violence and blood supremacy is never the answer.
The first time I realized our world was in war, in an actual war, I was just 17. I was aware of the attacks, I used to read about them and the teachers would tell us about the outside world. They would even train us to face that world. Nevertheless, knowing that something was happening and really understanding what was happening, were two completely different things.
The first time I realized our world was in war, in an actual war, I was just 17. It was my seventh year at Hogwarts and I was wandering around Hogsmeade. For some reason I already forgot, I had fought with my friends and was alone, in my way to the Three Broomsticks.
Nothing could have prepare me - not the teachers, not the news, not the training - to what I saw. In front of me, under the premise ‘let them serve as example’, I saw two of my housemates being murdered.
Mary Macdonald and Sierra Fahey were two girls, both mudblood like me, who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I could have been me, one of my friends or anyone whose blood wasn’t “pure enough”.
Mary Macdonald was weeks away from being 18 years old and legal in the muggle world. She wanted to move out with her best friend and partner in crime, Sierra, but before that, they wanted to travel all around Europe. She wasn’t one of my best friends, we barely know each other, but we had shared a room for seven years and I was used to see her around.
Sierra’s death was even worse. She was 16 years old, one year younger than me, and for the first time since I knew her, she was learning how to smile, how to be happy. The main reason for that was, probably, her relationship with Remus Lupin and Mary’s promise to take her away from her abusive father to provide her with the home she deserved.
In one moment, they were both there, smiling, chatting, being the teenagers they had all the right to be, and at the next minute, the only thing that was left were two cold bodies and the memories people had of them.
Hogsmeade didn’t seem safe anymore; inside the castle, the feeling wasn’t different. We lived scared. Every week, the heads of houses, sometimes even the headmaster, would interrupt a lecture to take a student to somewhere quiet, where they could inform their family had been added to the long list of victims of who make himself be called “The dark Lord”.
Being a teenager at the 70’s wasn’t easy.
After winter’s break and a terrible attack, one of my housemate left school to hide with what family she had left. And that’s how we went from being five to being three, in a bedroom that felt too big and too cold without all of us there. Trying to fix in our memories their voices, their smiles.
Every day, we would feel the fear. Every day we would watch our classmates’ faces, wondering if that would be the last time we’d see them alive.
A year has passed since Lord Voldemort’s fall in that Halloween of the ‘81. A year has passed since the end of the war and today, while a lot of people decide to drink for the peace, I want to take a moment to remember everything we lost in the way, everyone we lost.
The night of October 31th didn’t just mean the death of a dictator – I apologize for my Nazism’s analogies, but the analogies are more than a few – but the death of three young persons who have their whole life ahead.
Lily and James Potter will never turn 22. They won’t be able to travel around the world, falling in love again and again at every new place, crossing wishes from their bucket list. By the time he’s 3, their son, their only legacy, will have spent more time without his parents than with them; Harry will never talk about Quidditch, Transfiguration and girls with his dad neither learn about compassion, potions and charms with his mom.
Peter Pettigrew was as old as the Potter, but his family legacy ended with him. To die at such a young age is tragic, but to die at the hands of one of your best friends is too Shakespeare-like. That night, Peter’s chance to find the love of his life, form a family or fulfill his dream of coaching the Tutshill Tornados was taken away.
A year has already passed and their deaths aren’t the only ones but are probably the ones that hurt me the most.
More than a year has passed since Dorcas Meadowes, Gideon and Fabian Prewett and Benjy Fenwick’s murders by Death Eaters.
More than a year has passed since Marlene McKinnon and Caradoc Dearborn’s disappearances, leaving no clue behind, like they never existed.
More than a year since the Bones’ brutal massacre, in which we lost Hanna, who was 7 years old, and the little Hunter, who was 3.
More than a year and while some people decide to celebrate, I raise my glass for them. For the ones who fought endlessly for a better world. For the one who aren’t with us today but will live in our hearts forever. For the ones who died, who disappear, the one who were tortured and humiliated.
For them and for every soul we lost in this war, I raise my glass and toast, hoping we will never have to sacrifice young people in order to regain the peace.

Not a headcanon but a reminder: old Order of Phoenix members are so awesome Voldemort himself had to fight them. Dolohov tried to fight Flitwick: keyword tried.
I know right!? The old order was full of badasses. Maybe we see less of Voldemort himself actually fighting members of the second order because he was being smarter and trying to play it safe? But I feel like the old order was just that good that he often had to go deal with them himself. All of them were really powerful witches and wizards and although they’re mentioned very little what we do have is enough proof
James and Lily Potter: do I even need to tell y’all? joined at 18, defied Voldemort himself three times, the epitome of old order badassery
Frank and Alice Longbottom: ALSO the epitome of old order badassery, they were aurors and order members who defied Voldemort himself three times. and it took FOUR of Voldemort’s top death eaters to manage to capture and torture them
Sirius Black: let’s not forget this quote “THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED! DIED RATHER THAN BETRAY YOUR FRIENDS, AS WE WOULD HAVE DONE FOR YOU!” like doesn’t that just speak to how hard core some of the first order were
Remus Lupin: proves his skills in the first war, trusted so much he’s sent to live as a spy among werewolves for a period of time during the second
Gideon and Fabian Prewett: “Gideon Prewett, it took five Death Eaters to kill him and his brother Fabian, they fought like heroes…” IMAGINE THAT FOR A SECOND
Edgar Bones: called a “great wizard” by Madeye, and Hagrid said that he and his family were “considered among the greatest wizards of all time” He and his family were killed by death eaters- his parents by Voldemort himself
Madeye Moody: he survived the first war, put a ton of people in Azkaban, rejoined the second order. and just let this badass quote from Deathly Hallows sink in “Stay in formation, everyone. Don’t break ranks if one of us gets killed.”
Marlene McKinnon: I just mentioned her in my last ask but “she was killed two weeks after this was taken, they got her whole family.“ Excuse me I’d like to meet this family so full of badasses that all of them were considered a target ok
Benjy Fenwick: idk much but this quote screams of a tough fighter to me ”he copped it too, we only ever found bits of him…“
Emmeline Vance: rejoined the second order, was a member of the Advance Guard from OOTP and died in 1996, according to her wikia page “her loss was considered a heavy blow for the Order” I imagine it’s cause she was an amazingly talented witch
others: Elphias Doge, Dedalus Diggle, and Sturgis Podmore were all members of the first order and rejoined the second order. trusted and skilled enough they were chosen for the Advance Guard that escorted Harry from Privet Drive in OOTP
#i love the first order with all my heart#they're all so amazing look at these quotes#look at how hard they fought#some of them fought voldemort himself!!!!#some of them had to be taken down by MULTIPLE death eaters#like what heroes#ask hp hc#emily writes#Anonymous#dat ask
