the way i see it, colin has three options for handling the repercussions of kissing michael on the pitch in front of everyone:

gatekeep: by some miracle no one caught the kiss on camera so colin's sexuality is kept between him and any fans who happened to be on the pitch near him. the safest option.

girlboss: keeley gets the pr challenge of a lifetime handling the story of the first active premier league player to come out as gay. rebecca is tall and powerful and intimidating in the press room making it clear that richmond stands behind colin one thousand percent. the most realistic option.

gaslight: straight-up blatantly lying. not because he's ashamed or because he thinks he can actually convince anyone that the kiss didn't happen, but just because he refuses to let it be a big deal. acts like he has no idea what anyone is talking about if asked anything related to his sexuality. he doesn't claim to be straight, mind you, he just pretends to be extremely confused about why they're asking because he never kissed anyone in the middle of a football pitch at the end of an internationally-televised game? when presented with photo and video proof of the kiss he says that was some other richmond player named hughes who wears a number 12 jersey. you don't know him, he goes to another school. the funniest option.

I... have a confession to make, of sorts. There won't ever be a good time to admit this, unfortunately, so it's best I get this off my chest now, and ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

It has not been easy speaking with all of the flashclones who have made themselves known in the wake of Union's latest raids; both for myself, and the squadron at large. I must commend my squadmates for handling themselves with the utmost professionalism - while my own correspondences with these newest members of the Omninet have been what I would consider adequately polite, I've been biting my tongue the entire time, and I fear that my personal discomfort with the issue is starting to slip through the cracks.

To this end, I wish to share my thoughts publicly, that I might better express my own emotions towards this complicated, frustrating, and highly nuanced issue. I only ask that you hear me out in full before you render judgement, and pronounce your sentence carefully.

First: an observation.

MSMC policy requires that all pilots dictate an end-of-life plan at the time of their recruitment, that their final wishes may be carried out by the company in the event of their death under MSMC's employ. The options provided for this are effectively unlimited, allowing the pilot a great deal of choice and freedom in planning their postmortem arrangements. These plans may also be altered in the future should circumstances change, provided the pilot is of sound body and mind.

Under MSMC policy, in compliance with the policies set forth by Union, one of the available postmortem options is flashcloning.

In my fifteen-odd years serving under MSMC, I have only heard of three pilots who have willingly chosen to be flashcloned after death (thus prolonging not only their life, but their term of service under MSMC as well). Of these, I have only personally met one, affiliated with MSMC-808 "5Q8R3 L00P3RZ" - I believe their current iteration goes by callsign Lemniscate. While I do not know how many times they have been cloned during their term of service, their current iteration seems happy enough, and their squadmates reassure me that they've maintained a consistent identity (plus or minus the odd quirk, as is typical of flashclones) throughout their life (lives?).

Second: a digression.

I purchased my Dusk Wing, And The Voice of Apollo Spoke From On High (Apollo for short), from an SSC showroom on a planet whose name I no longer recall. The curated atmosphere called to mind the high marble pillars and lush green-blue waters of some distant Cradle mythology where gods roamed the earth and mortals strove to emulate them, punished and rewarded for their folly in equal measure with gifts and curses beyond name. Each frame was posed as the statues of old on Cradle, too-human limbs arrayed in too-human poses, each a machine of war turned living art piece.

Apollo, true to its future name, was arrayed in flight; hover-jets draped with sunlight-yellow gossamer, veil rifle aimed in its middle tier of manipulators with the same care and precision as an archer would take with their bow. To see it lowered to the floor after its purchase was to see Icarus fall; to climb inside its cockpit for the first time, to don wax-and-feather wings of my own and fly.

The old tales caution that divinity has a cost, and I too paid the price. A vial of blood, drawn with silver needle and spirited away into an unseen cooler before my pen ever touched paper. Apollo was mine, but SSC had received a far greater gift in its place: a sample of my DNA, unwillingly donated as the price for my divine armament.

Even now, this price weighs heavy on my head like the sword which hung above Damocles, poised to drop without a moment's notice with each new Union raid on yet another forgotten cloning facility. Who can say on what distant planet the children I did not birth sleep in stasis - children with my eyes, my hair, my nose, my smile; sons and daughters who will never be called as such because, to their creators, they are slaves, weapons, property - anything but human.

Third: an explanation.

I believe that flashcloning, in its current state as of 5016u, as approved by Union's Third Committee (and exploited by the likes of SSC, HA, and several countless others across the stars) is an inherently unethical practice; both for those who donate their DNA (willingly or otherwise), as well as for those persons produced by it.

To see countless lives created, manipulated, slaughtered, and recycled in the name of so-called "progress"; to see inherently human beings stripped of every vestige of humanity but the body in which they reside and then forcibly brainwashed and molded into soldiers, medics, mechanics, weapons, machines, slaves, property - it is an abominable and inhumane practice that should have died a slow and painful death in the darkness from whence it was birthed.

This being said: I cannot stand idly by as the products of this inhumane practice continue to suffer. No matter whether it is beneath the apathetic gaze of Union, the dehumanizing bootheel of HA, or the eugenicist scalpel of SSC, I will not allow my fellow persons to endure another day of abuse at the hands of those who would abandon their own creations as little more than imperfect failures for daring to remind their creators of their sentience.

Alone, I can do nothing. I too am but a cog in this great uncaring machine humanity has built, one which prospers on suffering and bloodshed and the work of hands which have forgotten the body to which they are attached. Even if I were to risk life and limb and reputation to make my position known, it is a battle which lies dead in the water - it is impossible to halt the wheels of progress without irreparably damaging the future which relies on their turning.

And so I fight. I fight for those who have forgotten their humanity, both willingly and unwillingly, that they might find something of their own - identity, purpose, desires, connection, life - that reminds them of what they were and are and always have been: human.

Brain goes brrrrrr (well mine and @fruityfirehose 's brains - she had the initial thought - I'm just running with it!)

What if we have this seemingly 'cute and happy' moment where tommy is teaching Buck Maui Thai in the loft (my money is on them being in the space between the sitting room and dining table!) - he hits Buck - accidentally (I don't like the guy but I don't think he's evil in that way!) and Buck sits down and uses his camera to check the injury -Tommy is holding back because he did just hurt him (hence the poses in the stills!)

Buck calls Eddie, who comes to help with his medical expertise and assesses Bucks injury.

It gives us several callbacks and parallels to draw on!

I've already pointed out the white hoodie - and the fact Buck is sitting in a chair (I assume the same chair) as in 517 when Taylors betrayal begins - Tommy is in a similar enough position to Taylors as well (we don't get the same camera angles as the stills but you can see what I mean!)

We also get an interesting call back to both their first kiss and more importantly the basketball game - hence the shiner on his face! Tommy is in red/black - like he was for their first kiss in 704 and his shirt is sleeveless like his basketball hoodie was - both have had the sleeves cut off.

This would be interesting as a set up for Bucks arc and the hurdles, baggage, issues - whatever you want to call it at this point! Tommy injuring Buck would call back to Buck hurting Eddie - and play into Bucks tendency to react to difficult situations with anger/aggression - hurting people unintentionally in the process- which also ties into the Gerrard situation from 801 when Buck saved him but injured him in the process.

We also have a callback to 504 (how appropriate after last week!) and 'Ice goes on the eye bud' and maybe an implied reference to 'maybe you don't know [Maddie} like he does' - the injury is in the same-ish place. This would be especially good as the implication that Eddie knows Buck better than Tommy does is just perfectly set up

Buck not dealing with things well when they are not going his way - turning to aggression in some form (the law suit was an act of aggression - just not physical aggression) is an interesting flaw of Bucks that he really hasn't dealt with and really is one that he does need to actively work on and 'fix'. Its one of the parts of Buck that is some baggage he's carrying that he needs to address, and what additionally interesting about it is that if Tommy does (accidentally) hit Buck whilst teaching him Maui Thai, it plays into the theory that Tommy (as the plot device that he is) is an alt version of Buck - there to reflect/ highlight Bucks issues - the ones he needs to work on!

Genuinely the end of WoT feels like such a kick in the teeth. The women in the series whose arcs are independent from men get disappeared. The women whose arcs involve men are given side quests that feel peripheral or irrelevant to the plot. The most pivotal female character and the only one who has a continuous arc through the books to match the male trio…well. You Know.

.........Did Deku ever smiled when he was 'saving' Shigaraki/Tenko?

Not just a slight upturn of the corners of the lips, but an actual smile. The smile Nana promoted; the smile All Might whenever he saved people has that Deku aspired to; the smile that Shigaraki resented because he was never saved.

(We never see Shigaraki/Tenko smile big either, despite that being Nana's wish for Kotarou - a life full of smiles and joy, and presumably wants for her grandson too now that she sort of reconcile with him)

It's not a certain thing - iirc, the Todoroki Save didn't have smiles either, and neither did the heteromorphs - but for Shigaraki and Deku, who had connections to All Might and Nana, it would be weird for them not to smile?

Perhaps the saving isn't actually done?

It would be nice for Deku to realize he didn't actually save Shigaraki/Tenko, and has to go do so. Plus like. He started out the series asking if a Quirkless person can be a Hero. When he saved Tenko's heart, he had to do so via OFAFO-vestige-landscape-whatever. When he gave a final blow to AFO and that technically help brought Shigaraki/Tenko back, he was using the last embers of OFA. He's a hero, he saved everyone, yeah, yeah. But has he done so entirely without a quirk?

Idk how that would work. How do you bring back someone who had been disintegrated without some magic power? How would he even know to go save Shigaraki/Tenko one last time if he thinks Shigaraki/Tenko is dead???

but i'm seeing these images in my head that maybe. maybe. Deku goes to visit Spinner to give him Shigaraki/Tenko's last words, and Spinner explodes on him. He basically let Shigaraki die. How could he call himself a hero when he didn't save someone. Heroes won and it really didn't change anything.

And maybe, Deku is shaken by that. Thinks long and hard about the lessons of the war. Maybe he goes on a walk. Comes across the Nana Hand in the wreckage. It has that microdevice that AFO put in it that let Kurogiri know where to warp to - meaning location data. Strangely, there's information there that Shigaraki/Tenko is... somewhere?

We get the Nine (movie character) ending, where it turned out Shigaraki/Tenko survived, ending up on an island somewhere. How??? idk. regeneration kicked in again. Kurogiri actually managed to warp Shigaraki/Tenko away. Tenko's original quirk came back and it's Revival. Whatever. Point is, Shigaraki/Tenko's alive, but sees no point in going back. Like he told Spinner, Shigaraki Tomura fought till the end but he failed, so he's not Shigaraki Tomura anymore. He failed his friends. He throws Deku's words back at him - if he comes back, the sadness will only continue, so he can't go back. Who is he even, anymore? His entire life was being a puppet. He's a hollow shell.

And Deku has to save him from this. Tell him he's actually not. His friends are waiting for him. Deku's been thinking, the League has points, so he'll work to change Hero Society. He's going to college and getting a degree in social work or whatever. Hero his own way. And Shigaraki/Tenko... didn't he say he wanted to be a Hero for the Villains? He should do that. Deku tells Tenko that he can be a Hero too, smiles as he says this.

And that gives Tenko hope. And Deku has finally saved someone with a smile, using no quirk.

(And it would also be nice for Shigaraki/Tenko to get to be a Hero for the Villains and save his League. somehow. idk. Still want them to go Karma Houdini and become vigilantes.)

I'm still a couple weeks away from my full rewatch of Bad Batch and apparently my way of steeling myself for the season 2 finale is being unable to stop thinking incessantly about it, so if you want to avoid my painful Tech musings DON'T read below the cut...

So here's the thing:

We know Tech is a brilliant strategist (and that's putting it mildly - like, seriously understating things).

We know Tech is exceptional at calculating the odds and selecting the best option that will ensure survival - in case we had any doubt, season 2 reaffirmed this multiple times.

Therefore, we know that when Tech was hanging off the rail car and decided the only way to save his family was to sacrifice himself, it was literally the only way.

But this was also the man who spent only two milliseconds considering all the options before jumping after Omega in "The Crossing."

So if any of the other Bad Batchers had been dangling off the rail car, we just KNOW Tech wouldn't have been okay with "cut the line" being the only option.

Imagine Tech needing to decide between losing one member of his family, or losing all of them.

Absolutely unacceptable.

I wonder if he was just a tiny bit relieved that he was the one who had to sacrifice himself, rather than being in the impossible situation of one of his family members having to sacrifice themselves.

(As an aside... The sooner Lucasfilm decides to bring back an amnesiac Tech, the better.)
