How did he get in the Neverseen? There was so much drama around his discovery but his character has one personality trait and that is force fields. Want to see more of that guy I feel like he could be really cool.

Someone write a spin off series of kotlc where instead of it being focused on Sophie. Have it be the forgotten characters that have been pushed to the aside and never used unless Sophie needs something from them. Make it like the office episodes and cast Dex, Marella, Linh, Stina?, Jensi, Maruca? And Biana. Instead of Keeper of the Lost Cities it’s Sophie’s Forgotten Friends.

LAST KOTLC RAMBLE (Maybe)

SO. I just just just finished my copy of Unraveled and I NEED to say my thoughts because. OH. MY. GOD????? Huge spoiler warning

I would like to start off with Alvar because he’s my biggest take away. I feel like before when we saw Alvar… It was from Sophie’s point of view. And let’s face it, for most of these books Sophie idolized Fitz. Her perception of Alvar was tainted by Fitz’s hatred, and by only seeing the bad parts. Keefe however… Man Alvar was really a brother to him. I never realized how similar they are both in experiences and how they act but… Yeah

Alvar knew what to say to get through to Keefe. He knew what Keefe was thinking and how to get him to STOP thinking. As someone who can relate to Keefe (No I’m not a genetic experiment, sorry to disappoint) it was scary seeing him depressed. Like… That’s what he’s like when he’s alone. Even when he’s been vulnerable around Sophie he always jokes. But Alvar understands him so completely… It’s gotta be frustrating. So he just stopped trying. And Alvar pushed him to keep on trying

On a similar note at the beginning when Keefe was losing his concentration at the beginning during his third light leap and wanted to just “let go”??? UHH WHO GAVE HIM THE RIGHT TO BE SUICIDAL? EXCUSE ME? I’M NOT LETTING THAT MOMENT BE FORGOTTEN. HE’S ALWAYS BEEN SUBTLY SUICIDAL BUT GUYS THAT WAS SO OBVIOUS. WE CAN NOT KEEP IGNORING THIS. It’s not like people are ignoring his poor mental health, it just feels like no one really talks about the severity of it… Because it’s severe guys

Let’s talk about… Cass Lordeman. The second I read that name it all clicked into place. In the Sencen family… Keefe isn’t the only one Mommy Dearest traumatized. Cassius was put through a lot. He needed a break. Before they even had Keefe, Cassius had his escape. Creating distance between him and his wife. Then he had a son. And it’s not right to drop his hobby just because of that right? But Cassius went to far. He neglected his son in the process. Not to mention. Being jealous and punishing your son because he’s more skilled than you? At DRAWING? Cassius just needs a therapist guys… I still don’t like him but let’s think his character through not just hate him

Small note, I really think Keefe and Alvar could’ve just like. Said they were autistic? Like hear me out. Keefe overwhelmed by all the different emotions? That’s a sensory overload my guy. Alvar played up the amnesia pretty well honestly, not much to critique there. But like just saying they were autistic would’ve gotten them some calmer and clearer explanations

Also I loved seeing the LGBT+ community represented in these books… For so long I’ve questions what elves and other intelligent species think of that, but this book really cleared it up… The elves don’t even think about that. It’s like me as a child feeling masculine but not realizing I can just change my gender identity to feel more comfortable. They were never shown options, so they didn’t think about it. So when they viewed LGBT+ couples they were accepting. They had a blank slate and no reason to be judgmental

ALSO THE TIMEZONES ARE FINALLY EXPLAINED. All the elves are just. Synced? I want more of an explanation kinda but honestly good enough man. Now it doesn’t just feel like a forgotten detail

AND FINALLY. THE MOMENT. THE CHAPTER. THE ENDING. T H E K I S S. The chapter being called “Everything” instantly had me squealing and kicking my feet because THAT’S WHAT SOPHIE IS TO HIM. SOPHIE IS LITERALLY HIS EVERYTHING. I love Keefe talking to Silveny about how worried he is… Silveny didn’t really help but it’s ok. KEEFE TALKING ABOUT SOPHIE IN RED??? “Almost like the color existed just for her” HELLO MR. ROMANTIC. I would swoon and die on the spot. Also the difference between Keefe and Fitz… Sophie started worrying about match lists, surely remembering Fitz. And Keefe just. Doesn’t care? I love him so much guys you have no idea- Also Keefe almost pumping his fist when they kissed was so cute- LIKE THAT’S NOT EVEN HIS FIRST KISS. IT’S NOT SPECIAL. IT’S SPECIAL BECAUSE IT’S HER. First thing he said afterwards was to check if she regretted it… Afhfhfhgjghhghfhf my hearttttttt

That’s all. Just thoughts I needed to say because. Yeah. I could go on and on about Keefe and Alvar though guys… Would anyone be interested in KOTLC agere content? Just curious…

I love that you're known for loving Keefe through thick and thin

I feel like so often people think loving a character means excusing their behavior or thinking they're a good person when that's not at all what it means. More often than not, people forget it's a *fictional* character. Loving the character through even their most cancellable flaws doesn't mean you're excusing them, it just means you love a good character.

As a writer, I often find myself being drawn to morally grey characters because they're fascinating from a writing POV. That doesn't mean i'd actually love them if they were real, or that I would endorse what they do, but that's what's fun aboug loving fictional characters: they're fictional.

I also personally disagree with the popular idea that Keefe is a badly written character. I think people get frustrated by his arc kind of being a loop and a lot of the same issues coming back around again after he’s tried to get better, but to me that’s just… realistic, you know? Like I get that people want to see characters go through distinct arcs where they are a certain way and then x y and z happen and then they are a different way. But that’s also not how it actually works. I think that’s part of what draws me to Keefe so much—hasn’t everyone been stuck in a cycle of bad patterns at some point in their life? To us, this series has been going on for twelve years, but to them, it’s been like… three. And three years is NOT a long time when you consider everything that’s happened to these kids over the course of those three years.

I understand why people have issues with the pacing of KOTLC, I just personally don’t share them. Again, to me it’s more realistic than it is frustrating, in a kind of refreshing sort of way.

I also think Keefe is a good guy a lot of the time and don’t want this to be forgotten. Like, he’s, he’s not always perfect! Sometimes he’s not even really a good guy at all! But it’s not like he’s never been sweet and kind and supportive in the best ways. He has his good traits, too, and even though I spend a lot of time on this blog fleshing out what I like about his flaws, I think it’s important to remember that while he is certainly a flawed character, those flaws do not make up his entire character.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he’s a character formed by bad circumstances who is stuck in a cycle of bad habits. And I’m never going to be okay about it

HEADS UP to all participants of the KotLC OC Tournament!!

Unfortunately, when i made the google forms and stuff, i didn't really think about how i wanted to do the polls. With some thinking, i have decided on the following:

i will make separate info posts for each oc, with all their information including the full backstory/description that was sent. If you think you may have forgotten something or want to edit it, you can dm me if your oc hasn't been posted yet- or even if it has! i'm not too strict :>

After all of them have been posted, i will arrange the pairings with a very strategetic and thought out method called wheelofnames.com. I will do my best to prevent ocs made by the same person from being paired. Then I'll post the first round of pairings and try to maybe post all the polls on the same day? And then they'll last a week.

After each week, i'll do a poll that lasts a day for people to decide which of the eliminated oc's they want to give a second chance to!

I'll make the second round of pairings with the same random wheel strategy, and we'll continue until there's one winner!

Winner gets fanart from me, and anyone else who wants to!

IMPORTANT: Short descriptions

Because I will be making info posts and not including every full backstory in every poll, it would be nice to have a basic short description of your character. Some on a whim examples from mine are:

"An ancient Neverseen Technopath who is 4'11 and seems to friendly to be in a terrorist organization" (Zero)

"A traumatized ancient who hasn't left his home in thousands of years out of fear of forgetting the people he's lost" (Kendall)

"Alden's older sister who was disowned as a teenager for being lesbian" (Nikita)

Just to get across the basic idea of your character for those who have not and don't want to read the full backstory. However, reading backstories is highly encouraged, because people did work hard on those :3

You can give me these in my dms, which should be open? Let me know if they're not. Be sure to specify which oc it's for if you have multiple!

DISCLAIMER: The results of a poll are not based on whether your character is "good" or not. People have different opinions, and some characters might appeal more to certain people. This is a fun and lighthearted thing, and if you don't think you can handle your oc losing, play it safe and don't enter.

can you explain more of the garwin era i feel like i really missed out

yeah yeah no problem!! im pretty sure it started like. early spring in 2023.

garvar was definetely a key player in the garwin craze im pretty sure. it was a ship (garwin x alvar) created in the star kotlc star server, and it branched out from there. squish made a really good fic, and theres a decent amount of fanart. while it has yet to be written, there was a garvar twilight au, which led to garvar mpreg.

from garvar mpreg came yale ivy-league chang vacker. their daughter. me and others made fanart of her and it was a good time all around. she will never be forgotten o7

then there was the first best keeper character tournament that summer!! it became a bit to vote garwin and try to get him to the final 2 with sophie.

despite all odds (and thanks to many comeback rounds) he makes it to the final 3 with sophie and tam. in a "vote which character to eliminate" poll with them in it, tam is eliminated. garwin has officially beaten tam. in the end he loses to sophie. he will lose to her in every universe, apparently.

while im not as familiar with this one, there was a mystery character bracket where garwin had a few submissions and made it pretty far!!

and the most recent one I think was garwin day, hosted by squish. fun time!!

Saw people doing this and I thought I’d give it a go since I have a lot of followers who seem to be in the KOTLC fandom but not super interactive. I’m reintroducing myself!

I’m Lindsay and I’ve been in KOTLC’s tumblr fandom since 2015 (but a fan since 2013)! There aren’t a lot of us from the pre-Flashback days who are still active in the fandom, so I love to talk about old lore for anyone curious!

I used to occasionally post art here, and I do still write fic once in a while (ao3 bump), but right now I am primarily a shitposter. I also love reading and reblogging others’ series meta.

One of my passions is preservation and archival within fandom, so my latest project has been transcribing bonus content from the books over at @kotlc-deleted-scenes.

I have been known to haggle and complain (all in good fun) for things such as queer rep in the series, forgotten secondary characters, and #dexonthecover2k17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24. I can also often be found defending my poor, downtrodden ship—eponymous to my URL—until the end of time.

Cannon Things In KOTLC People Seem To Forget:

Also me just being mad that people don't talk about something I love lol

- Sophie is SHORT. She is SMALL. Which also means Dex was even SHORTER in the first book or two.

- Biana feels left out and forgotten by her parents because of Fitz.

- Alvar was a glass child. Invisible, which is ironic considering his ability, but yeah. He was pretty much outshined by his siblings. (Probably gay to tbh.)

- Fitz has daddy issues and he's spoiled. Have you seen how Alden is with him? If I had a dad like that I'd have tantrums too. (Lucky me I got a pedo dad and an mostly absent mom... ✨ yay✨)

- Keefe is a year ahead of people his age, he's younger then Fitz too but is still second place in class ranking.

- Marella's mom had a head injury. She has brain damage. People don't talk about that enough.

- Sophie has crippling anxiety and self worth issues because of her up bringing. She was literally bullied and if that wasn't enough she had to hear what EVERYONE really thought about her. She is literally so brave and has incredible patience. (Y'all need to hop off my home girls ass, she's literally so fucking interesting.)

- Bronte has curly hair... WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS???

- Everyone has british accents but crisper. (I always forget this when I read unless it's Fitz talking 💀)

- Cognat's are like married couples. (PRENTICE AND TIERGAN MAN— GET TOGETHER ASDNJSJD)

- There are a lot of blond haired characters. Like... a lot.

- Stina is a tall girl with curly hair and is so pretty.

- Dex, Lex, Bex, Rex, and Kesler are RED. HEADS. GOD DAMNIT. STOP MAKING THEM BLOND.

- Edaline and Julien are sisters. I feel like we don't talk enough about that and we don't see enough of them being sisters.

- Most of the adults are manipulative, even the good ones. Edaline and Kesler are like the two safest options in the series.

- Ro cares a lot about Keefe (it's buried deep but it's there.)

Stellarlune & KOTLC Thoughts!!

WE GOT CANON SOKEEFE GUYS

Although would it be bad to say that I prefered Legacy Sokeefe to Stellarlune Sokeefe I just think something's missing I'm not sure WHAT exactly (tbf they're both going through a lot of changes rn so that might be it)

I LOVE that we finally saw Kenric's forgotten memories, its interesting how they all shifted how we see him as a character

Things are getting SERIOUS SERIOUS as if they weren't already but I truly think we're in the final stretch guys

WE GOT CANON SOKEEFE OH MY GOD SDFHSDFHSDIUFH OH MY OGDDDDDD

I also like how we saw a little Sophie and Fitz too, I like how their relationship isn't immediately mended and how they had to do the inquisition thingie and all that

I also think Fitz's reaction was justified when he found out about the Sokeefe kiss guys like I truly feel bad for him

I'm mourning over the Sophie Stina allyship though

I don't know where this book falls in my ranking of KOTLC books BUT I will say I LOVE how much packed it was with lore- in most of the KOTLC books we're not really aware of the Neverseen plans (we still aren't lmao) and Keefe's legacy and just the whole WORLD in general so to see everything connecting and these new concepts being added and actually getting ANSWERS was nice

Elysian as a concept fascinates me because in the Stellarlune acknowledgements she says how this is what the series has been leading up to so I'm REALLY curious about the role of Elysian in the entire story and world also Elysian MIGHT be a person too?? so?? whats up with that

General KOTLC Thoughts:

I WISH I read this series when I was younger, I'm sure 12-year-old me would adore the series just as much as I do now (although maybe I got lucky because I didn't have to deal with the cliffhangers lmao)

I think the world that Shannon built is genuinely SO cool - I loved it since the first book but reading Unlocked made me appreciate how thought out it was, and there's still a lot we don't know

I also ADORE the characters as well- Sophie is my favorite and I will love her til the end of time but each character has so much charm and potential to them

However that being said I do think we got to a point of having a lot of characters and it made it so we couldn't know as much about them as I'd like to (like I would love to know more about Maruca and Wylie!!! I wanna know more about Stina too)- it also led to characters getting shoved aside (Dex you were done so dirrty)

I'm not the biggest fan of love triangles so imagine my surprise when I found out it was a fucking square LMFAO - I shipped Sokeefe from the beginning I think (although I really started rooting for them in Exile) but I did like the moments we got between Sophie and Fitz (even if their relationship didn't work out I just adore the trust they have between them and their friendship is one of my favorites like GUYS HE'S the one who found her and introduced her to this world); and I don't wanna talk about Sophie and Dex as a romantic ship I didn't ship them lmao

You can sort of see when romance starts becoming a bigger thing in the series which is fair Sophie's 15 and she can be in love however much she wants and I'm a sucker for romance (but I will say I enjoyed the earlier books a bittt more just because there was a lesser focus on romance)

Exile and Neverseen were my favorite books, and Exile's cover is my favorite

I would like to thank this book series for filling in the void in my heart for a little bit I genuinely adore it so much its become one of my favorite series

Also I can't believe you guys have had to wait 10 years for canon Sokeefe and even longer to know what the Neverseen is planning and for this series to finish you guys are the strongest people on this planet

KOTLC Characters Touch-Starve Ratings

….eh.

Sophie: No, not really. Has enough affection for her sanity, but still does need a good hug every now and then.

Keefe: Surprisingly, not as touch-starved as you think he is. Has enough comfort from Sophie, Elwin, and some others to live a little. A little.

Fitz: Nope. He’s all good! Got nice parents for hugs, great friends for comfort, he’s got it pretty nice. But sometimes, things get so tough he craves a good hug.

Biana: Same as her brother. But sometimes with her scars, she feels…. More alone? And requires a big hug.

Tam: 100% touch-starved. Hasn’t had a freaking hug in over 10 years. He’s literally forgotten what being hugged or just freaking touched is like. Can’t remember. Someone give him a hug. Now.

Linh: Touch-starve ratings is surprisingly a lot like Keefe’s. Has good friends like Marella to help her. But still is totally touch- starved.

Dex: Kinda touch-starved. I mean, he’s the oldest of 4, so what do you expect? And the others are the triplets, so… He doesn’t really get much time with people, since he’s always busy.

Marella: Sorta. I mean, it’s hard to get parent comfort hugs when one is kinda… yeah, and the other is also… yeah. And she was kinda alone until Sophie came along.

Anyways here are our main characteres:

Our main character, Sophie Foster, is secretly an elf who can read minds, and she also is our horse girl. She has the dna of a unicorn :P Oh and she is DEFINITELY not straight-

Keefe Sencen is our daddy issues + mommy issues boy, and he can feels emotions~ which if you think about it its pretty useless in the battlefield and everywhere else..

Dex Dizzee is our little cinnamon roll, but its flavored with hot sauce and peppers, with sprinkles on top :) He's the techy guy. Probably the gayest guy in the series tbh. He's forgotten a lot :( Oh and he's also made a girl bald and then gave her a beard. <3

Fitz Vacker is the guy who found Sophie. He is pretty proud of his fungus school, and his eyes. He's a sad guy, really. His iconic line is "But we're Cognates!" even though it may not help with the situation whatsoever.

Biana Vacker is Fitz's little sister. Sparkly queen and can kick butt! Always snooping around and creepily watching people from the bathroom! Whenever Shannon doesnt know what to do next, BOOM suripse! Biana was spying on them from under the bed or in the closet!

Tam Song (he comes in book 4 with his twin) and he's the most sane guy in the series, but almost the most unhinged and insane. They call him emo but he really is the normalest dude out there. Also mommy and daddy issues. Also the best character in the series (he is so freaking amazing jhbgyvf). Definitely killed someone.

Linh Song, our other Song twin! Cute little cinnamon roll, but is actually a murder of lots and lots of people! She our water girl, and she's flooded LOTS of places, probably killing lots of babies <3 Oh and she's flooded an Ogre city to the crew could get a hairclip.

Marella Redek is out hot fire girl who is probably gay! <3 She can make fire in the colors of the lesbian flag~ Second most forgotten character. Completely disappeared for like 5 books <3 Blunt, dry, and definitely curses a lot in her extra time <3
