I can't get over how Jimmy is such mundane, natural destruction. In order to preserve Curly's reputation and escape the consequences of his actions, he purposefully crashes the ship to kill them all and they all survive the aftermath. When taking over the role of Captain and genuinely trying to keep them all alive he both intentionally and unintentionally ends up getting his crew killed, one by one. He tries to keep Anya out of his guilty conscious entirely, absolutely unable to face what he'd done to her unlike with everyone else, yet his subconscious still manages to drag his repressed feelings and the recognition of his own delusions and what he owes her to the surface despite that. His act of forcing them all into a murder-suicide with the crash was partially committed to keep Curly's name unstained by the blame of his own crimes, but when they survived he pinned the blame on Curly to preserve himself regardless. He puts Curly in the pod so that he can survive, as a final act of friendship and atonement, but there is no guarantee that Curly will make it due to Pony Express being dead and generally apathetic to the wellbeing of their workforce, potentially leaving Curly in hellish pain he'll have to endure for 20 years until he can finally die instead.
He literally just can't get anything right, no matter how hard he tries. And I think that's so brilliant.

we talk a lot about shen qingqiu and liu qingge being autistic but its important to me that also shen jiu was autistic. but because he was 1. poor 2. a slave and 3. the villain it isnt used to excuse his behavior/personality the way it is for shen qingqiu and liu qingge

i wish they would stop trying to make the secret ending less stupid & incoherent with the mood of the franchise. hey guys it fine. you fucked up with the avengers thanos reveal plot twist. you can do the thing you have always done and ignore inconvenient set-ups for the next game. its not as if the mage-templar conflict happened on screen. or as if solas' agents and army didnt take an extended sabbatical in rivain with coconut drinks and margaritas.

Just watched What Lies Buried and excuse while I go sob.
Lowkey I already loved Giles bc he ignores Murdoch's Main Character-ness and is like 'can you please give me Evidence and not just a gut feeling pls' and as soon as it is proved that Julia was being framed, he fully helped them like.
I love him. I love Hodge. I love them both.
But legit Giles is prob the most Fascinating character so far, actor being amazing with his microexpressions oh my gosh. I want so much more of him dammit.

imo, the issue of bringing a lot of the idw original cast into the games runs up against a similar issue as in transformers fandom, where the characters created for the focus of the broader franchise are created according to fundamentally different principles than the ones for the longform serialized comics. the core cast are archetypes that can be endlessly reused in any story first, and full characters second. the idw-original characters are, usually, characters first, as the story needs them.
characters like surge and kit and whisper and so on are created to do something the core cast of sonic sort of can't: to have arcs. in which they undergo development and serious status quo change. they are not created to be broad archetypes that can be continually dropped, unchanged, into sequential standalone stories. they are designed for the needs of a comic with a longterm ongoing interconnected storyline, especially one where corporate mandates seriously limits what you can do with most of the game characters.
that in turn means that when i think of introducing them to the mainline, story-driven games, it's kind of like... how? whisper's nothing without the backstory. but you also can't just gloss over it in a single cutscene or something. a game introducing whisper properly to the new audience would really need to be a game whose plot is in large part about whisper, and that's just never going to be on the cards, because the sonic games are about. yknow. sonic.
surge and kit would be like. you'd need them to be the antagonists for a whole-ass game to really do them justice; they are Having An Arc you have to set up (and let play out!) but oops, you also now need starline for this to make sense! the amount of effort it takes to bring them in is so much higher than for most sonic characters; you have to invest so much narrative real estate to them so they can be what they are, characters with arcs.
(the big exception to this is of course shadow, but shadow not being intended to be a series regular and getting brought back caused so many problems in the 2000s, i'd argue, for this exact reason!)
i think this is why of all the characters, tangle is the one i can actually see being introduced. conceptually, tangle is simple: she is the sort of normal girl who is high energy and fun who unexpectedly gets to go on adventures with sonic and has a blast. she is very like him temprementally but less experienced and more naively enthusiastic in a lot of ways. bam. she is way more of a 'normal' sonic character than most of the cast, and you can just drop her in a game and she functions perfectly, imo. (and she has an obvious gameplay gimmick to use; her tail. it really feels like she was made with an eye to crossing over, ngl.)

Why is the starshine au not in the master document for your aus? Are you still thinking about what the story could be about in a long way??
i just haven't updated the document in a while!! i made it before i decided to make starshine an actual AU instead of a one-off thing. monster detective among a few others aren't in it either because they're newer.

Is it bad I found it very hard to get invested in idw2 (while it was active) because my favorite character got killed off on page 3 of issue 1
I mean, it's not bad, anon- you are reading comics for personal entertainment and it's not homework. If you wanna read for your fave and the first issue goes 'welp, your fave is our sacrificial lamb this time, rip' there's nothing wrong with being like 'not for me then'! There's no need to justify yourself further there; you were attached to a prior version of the character, it played out in IDW2 that said character couldn't ever play a role beyond 'hey we found a dead guy', you don't owe it to anyone to give a shit if that's personally a dealbreaker in terms of interest for you.
I will say though that it's always kind of a risk in a franchise like TF. Every character is someone's favourite and with the way the franchise works, there's always gonna be reboots where someone's lesser-known fave gets picked to be the one that dies this time, or gets a weird new personality for Plot Facilitation Reasons, or whatever. Them's the breaks in this sort of franchise, where it starts fresh (usually) every 3-4 years and assumes/courts a new audience above all else, with a cast that is less 'recurring characters' and more 'recurring archetypes to make new characters out of'. (This was as much true for IDW1 as it was IDW2! IDW1 just ran for such an unprecedentedly long time compared to basically all other TF fiction that a whole segment of fans think of it as the norm rather than the exception, I feel; and it gives you such a wealth of material to play with compared to almost every other single continuity in the franchise.)
But as I say, you read comics about robots for enjoyment, not to Do Your Homework. If it doesn't spark joy, drop it and go enjoy something that does. No need to push yourself through it if it doesn't appeal.
