Okay, so a thing about Tolkien's Middle-Earth is that, for elves and other beings of comparable metaphysical stature, the "distance" between an act of will and its tangible result is shorter than it is for mortals. The universe is just more inclined to play along with how they want it to work, which is why they're not lying when they claim not to know what magic is even though the products of their craftsmanship are by any reasonable standard supernatural – they just make stuff, and it works the way it does because that's how they intended it to.
This has a number of fun worldbuilding implications, like inventors having tangible authority over things crafted using their techniques, regardless of who does the actual crafting, because they literally willed the principles which allow those techniques to work into being, or the fact that when powerful beings die, sometimes stuff that depends on techniques they invented stops working. However, there's a bigger implication that that's generally gone unaddressed:
Elves can't do science.
Like, it's straight up impossible. A Tolkien elf cannot construct and carry out a meaningful experiment of any sort – it'll always works the way they expect it to, but only for that particular elf. Confirmation bias is an insurmountable barrier.
I want to read a story about the elf who figures this out and it bothers them terribly.

Water is actually one of the strangest substances known to science. This may seem a rather odd thing to say about a substance as familiar but it is surely true. Its specific heat, its surface tension, and most of its other physical properties have values anomalously higher or lower than those of any other known material. The fact that its solid phase is less dense than its liquid phase (ice floats) is virtually a unique property.

Rereading your alien nonsense post and now all I can imagine is Aventurine snacking on some poisonous cactus fruits and Ratio's staring in horror and Aventurine is just like "???" like it's nothing. What do you mean most people get sick eating these? But they taste so good?
They get stuck on some random forest planet during a mission and Aventurine's just like "Well, hey, at least we won't starve! These taste pretty good!"
"Gambler, spit out the death cap mushroom immediately!"
(And this is how Ratio experiences his first truly unsolvable scientific quandary: "Are all Avgins naturally immune to poisons like these, or is it just you and the mathematical absurdity you call your luck?"
"You know, I actually couldn't tell you, doc."
"This is going to bother me for the rest of my life."
"Would the mushroom help?")

Science has profoundly altered the conditions of man's life, both materially and in ways of the spirit as well. It has extended the range of questions in which man has a choice. It has extended man's freedom to make significant decisions.
No one can predict what vast new continents of knowledge the future of science will discover.
But we know that as long as men are free to ask what they will, free to say what they think, free to think what they must, science will never regress and freedom itself will never be wholly lost."
-- J. Robert Oppenheimer

Ineffable May day 16: "1827"
Ch 1: Hell's Graveyard Shift Is Run by Interns
Summary
When Hell fails to notice Crowley’s Very Good Deed, he is left in an Edinburgh graveyard trying to navigate a world tilted by laudanum. Fortunately for him, Aziraphale has no intention of leaving him to fend for himself. Fortunately for both of them, Crowley's compromised brain-to-mouth filter leads to a far more enjoyable evening than they expect.
Crowley stared at Aziraphale through a long, drunken pause during which his brain's temporal lobe made an admirable effort to process Aziraphale's words. It was mostly unsuccessful, but it could hardly be blamed for the visual cortex hogging all of Crowley's attention.
“You're so lovely!” He loudly blurted out with a toothy grin, before continuing. “You're like…glowy. Twinkly? No, 'bright’, probably. Oh I know the word- beautiful! You're beautiful. Beautiful Angel. Oh! And when you smile like that it's even better!”
CW/TW: Canon-typical substance use (but NO dub con); Rated Explicit (eventual smut)

This baby is chock full of: fluff and humor, fluff and science, romantic fluff, fluff and science and smut, fluff and smut, & fluff and science smut. (Yes I mean what I said.) 😉🔭🥰 🧬🔥
