These are my final paper collage. The one on the left is my first collage. First I looked through multiple magazines and cut out images. Then I glued them all down to make a surreal collage. My goal was to make a family on a beach and a sunset sky with a mountain. For both of my collages I wanted the background to be the main surreal affect. I used four images for my first collage- the family, the beach, the sunset sky, and the mountains. My second collage I like much better. I made a cool sky background and added a gas station. I wanted two very different backgrounds to blend. Even though I only used two images, I think that less is better at times. I really loved how I made it surreal so that no one knows whether it is day or night because the gas station is light and the background is dark. I was inspired by the Magritte house which is where an artist made a series of two collages that played with the light and darkness of the background. In all, I really liked looking through magazines and finding really cool images to put together into one surreal collage.

Progress post #1 So far I have made my first paper collage. My goal was to show a family on the beach with a cool sky and mountains up top for a surreal affect. My next steps are to smooth out the wrinkles and make another collage. Now that I know how to make a collage using paper, I think that my next one will be much better.

This is my final surreal collage series. My theme is half black and white and half colorful. Also, on the colorful side there is always a sunset and on the dark side there is always a rip or bend in the page. For my first collage (bottom), I made it of the Eiffel Tower. I made two sides (one dark and one colorful) and on the dark side I made a rip in the page showing a beautiful lake which shows that although things may seem dark, there is going to be light somewhere. On the light side, I added a sunset with a rainbow and a girl sitting on the rainbow holding balloons. I also placed the same girl in that side of the photo too. I purposely made the girls big compared to the scene because it makes it even more surreal. My second collage is the top right. Once again, I made a dark side with a person looking sad while looking to her right (aka away from the bright happy side). I added a piano and outlined it with a luminance pen for a cool random surreal detail. I also added a dead tree in the background and a fold in the page. For the happy light side, I have the same girl looking away from the dark side and her shadow shows her actually holding a balloon even though she is not (surreal touch). In the background, there is also a beautiful full tree and once again a sunset in the background. There is also a ribbon across the scene which I outlined with a luminance pen. My last collage is the top left which is of a person on the dark side of the collage on the beach looking sad while looking into a mirror and seeing a princess. I also added a rip in the top left to add a cool detail. On the right side, I added a sunset and a mirror with a princess and some small Brandy Melville stickers on the mirror to add a cute detail. I added some string lights to add detail. My goal for this one is to show the person although looking sad is actually a beautiful princess inside. For this project I added a bunch of shadows by duplicating the image, lowering the opacity, and blending. I used the cutting tool to cut out the images. I also used the blending and eraser tool to make it look like the people were standing in the scene and not on top of it. In all, I think this was a really fun project since I love taking random pictures and combining them into one masterpiece. I think that I did a really good job sticking to the theme and I think in all it looks really good.

This is a progress post. I am almost done with all three collages and all I have to do is edit and fix up some small details. I also have to post the final piece with an artists statement. So far I have fixed up a little of the top two collages and I also added a lot more detail to my third and final collage

This is another progress post. I just started my third and final collage and so far I have made the two different sides and people and I made sure to make the people look bigger than in real life. My next steps are to make shadows, put in balloons that cross into the other side of the picture and add a lot more details.

This is my second surreal collage in the series. I am currently not done with this collage but so far I have added the two sides to the picture, the sunset, a fold in the page, and a piano. My nexts steps are to make the shadows more real, fix the sunset, and add more features to make it look surreal.

This is my first surreal collage progress post. I am currently almost finished with this collage. So far, I have made the two sides- dark and light- and have added lights and some details. My nexts steps are to make the shadow for the mirror, make the person in the mirror look more real and maybe even add something in the water.

This is my self portrait that I made on Procreate. For this project, I tried out a lot of different brushes including the technical pen, airbrush, splatter brush and the round brush and experimented with different tools. First, I imported a photo of myself and then traced it with a technical pen which I also used for all the facial feature, the shirt outline, and the hair. I thought that the nose was hard to draw since the angle of my face was sideways but in all I think I did a pretty good job with the nose. For the background, I used a hard airbrush and placed different shades of pink of which I blended together. For this project, my goal was to make my face, hair, and shirt very simple with a pop of color for the eyes, lips, and background. I also added a choker to break the all white of my neck and face. For the hair, i decided to make it very simple since that is my theme so instead of tracing all of my hairs, I decided to put a few lines in which the way my hairs were falling. I also added a tiny bit of grey shading which I blended near the eye crease, chin, and forehead. I think this was a really great project to try out new techniques on Procreate and I am so excited for our next project!

The Procreate App Challenge. Using Procreate, I sketched and colored in this really simple eye close up photo. This is my first time using Procreate.
