What are those claws on Bone's paws? Bird toes? How are they sticking to him?

Yep! In the original books, BloodClan claws are "reinforced with dog's teeth", and that bugged me because dog teeth are dull and made for crushing and wouldn't work best with infamously sharp cat claws. It took me about three years, but I finally landed on the idea that BloodClan uses hot tar to glue the talons and first few digits of birds of prey to their paws. Only Scorch, Bone, and Brick have a full set. Their best warriors can eventually earn a talon for their thumbs, reinforcing their dewclaws alone.

For a while, I painted the tar on the paws, but it kinda muddied up the design, so my thought is they only use a very small amount that won't show. It would also be better for their health, as burning hot tar isn't the safest "glue" to work with.

“S-Sorry, I have somewhere I need to be.” He answered, his voice shaky, “I’ll arrange for someone to take you home.” 

“Wait!” She called out as he ran towards you.

You were laughing so hard at how Namjoon had just tripped over his own two feet again when Jimin appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, grabbing your wrist, “What the fuck?” 

“Fun time is over.” Jimin said and tugged you with him as he headed towards the exit.

You yanked your wrist free, Namjoon appearing at your side, “Um no, it isn’t. What’s with you?” You asked him. 

Jimin looked at you and Namjoon, “Y/N.” You raised a brow at the tone of his voice… He sounded scared, “We have to go now.” 

“Did something happen?” You immediately grew worried because Jimin never sounded scared. 

“Seokjin just called me and… Something happened with Han and Charlotte.” 

You had never felt such fear. 

The ride to the hospital was tense and quiet. Jimin drove like a maniac through the streets of Seoul while Namjoon had tagged along as support. The two men sat in the front of the car, exchanging no words whatsoever, leaving you to your thoughts running rampant. 

Then you arrived at the hospital and everything happened so quickly.

A drunk driver collided with their limousine.

Their driver was killed on impact. 

Charlotte and Han were in critical condition.

You had no idea how much time had passed from when you had arrived to when you were sitting on the chair outside the ward, Jimin prancing back and forth like a caged animal.

Then the doctor appeared from the ward and Namjoon was quick to leave your side, going to talk to him.

You stood up, watching as they talked and you felt Jimin’s presence next to you.

Time seemed to slow down when your eyes locked with Namjoon’s, the sadness in his eyes conveying the message you had yet to receive but you knew. 

They were gone. 

You could feel someone wrap their arms around you as you tumbled to the floor, your own piercing wail deaf to your ears as you felt your chest implode on itself with heartbreak. 

Jimin struggled to keep you upright as you collapsed, your cries so very loud in his ears but it didn’t matter. He felt like he couldn’t breathe. He didn’t need to hear why you had broken down. It was clear as day by the way Namjoon looked. 

His brother was gone. Your sister was gone. Both of them were gone. 

You cried out her name and Jimin tightened his hold on you when you tried to crawl away from him. 

He might not like you and you may not like him but he knew that you should not go through this pain alone. So when you clutched his shirt so tightly in your balled fists, your cries finally lowering to whimpering and you buried your head in his chest, Jimin held you tight.

The feeling of time was lost on you when you entered Han and Charlotte’s apartment. Your mind was empty and you were pretty sure your heart had stopped beating. 

Mrs. Shin appeared as you took off your shoes and placed your purse on a small table. She looked puzzled upon seeing you, and only you, return. 

“Where is…” She trailed off as you grabbed her hand. 

“They’re gone.” Was all you said and her shoulders sagged as she moved her free hand to cover her mouth, “Is she sleeping?”

“She is.” 

You nodded and walked past her, down the hall, towards Hyejin’s room. The door was slightly ajar and you slowly opened it, finding her room dark except for a small lamp in the corner. 

She hated the dark.

Like Charlotte. 

You felt tears stream down your cheeks at the thought of your sister but willed them away. You had to be strong now for Hyejin. 

Nothing else mattered.

Hyejin woke up when her mattress shifted and she turned her head, rubbing one eye, “Eomma?” 

“No, honey. It’s me.” 

She sat up, looking puzzled, “Where’s Eomma? She always comes to kiss me goodnight.” 

You opened your arms and closed them around her tiny frame, “I know.” You placed your head upon hers and took a deep breath, “Listen, sweetie…”

The Little Vampire Fic : Never Again - Part One

Hello again “Little Vampire Fandom”! I’ve been very excited to write this one and I hope you all enjoy!

Summary: Rudolph visits Tony in San Diego only to find out he is struggling.

Flying to Tony’s house had become such a familiar route to Rudolph that he could fly to San Diego from Transylvania with his eyes closed. It was a pain to deal with the difference in time zones, the change in weather, and the fact that it was about a 40 hour flight for him. There were definitely some instances in which he wished he could just board a plane like everyone else and almost cut the trip in half, but flying without a plane was much more fun. There was a lot of stopping involved along the way to make sure he stayed out of the sun, but overall, he made it to Tony’s house exactly when he said he would. Tony had just been released on a long weekend and got Friday off, as well as the Monday the next week. They tried to coordinate trips with Tony’s school schedule so that they could see each other as much as possible but also keep Tony’s sleeping schedule as in-tact as it could be. 

As Rudolph flew over the quiet neighborhood where Tony lived, he took a moment to appreciate his surroundings. There was the smell of a distant fire as someone must have been camping out in their backyard. It was on the late side for a family outing, but a group of teenagers was probably taking advantage of the crisp autumn evening. It was always a wonderful temperature there, but some nights got more chilly than others. The wind blew against Rudolph’s face, but he could barely feel a difference since his skin was already so cold to the touch. 

He was almost quivering with anticipation as he reached the familiar white house with four windows on the front of it, a big grey roof, and a fence surrounding a small front yard. It was a nice family home for three people, and since the space was slightly larger than they needed, it was a wonderful location for parties or just having company over. Tony’s bedroom was the last room on the left when he approached the right side of the house. Just as he hoped, there was a singular light shining from his window which meant Tony was still expecting him. The double-hung window was covered by beautiful mulberry colored curtains, but he could see the light slightly peeking through. Rudolph swooped in and leaned against the wall as his long black nails, which could be classified as claws with how long and sharp they were, made a gentle tapping sound against his window. 

Usually, Rudolph heard Tony call out to him and say something along the lines of, “I’ll be there in a second!” or “Coming Rudy!”. However, this time he could only hear the sounds of shuffling feet and a soft thud as if he just got out of bed. Not only that but usually Tony had his room lights turned on so that it was a bigger beacon for him. On this night, Tony had only kept his bedside lamp turned on. Rudolph didn’t have time to think about what was going on as he heard the crack of the window opening slightly. Two hands suddenly squeezed out from under the lift of the window and pushed up on it until Rudolph could fit inside. As he flew through the curtains, he followed through with his habit and shut the window behind him. Tony’s room looked the same way it had when he visited before. The walls were a deep purple color, and with the red-tinted curtains and all of the vampire-themed décor in the room, it almost felt like they never left the castle. Even Tony’s bedsheets had a picture of the traditional Dracula print on them with bat fabric for his pillowcase. Rudolph couldn’t help but feel flattered that he had enough of an interest in vampires that he dedicated his bedroom to them.  

“Tony! It’s-” Rudolph didn’t even get time to speak before Tony had rammed into him, his arms tightly wrapping around his back. Rudolph was shocked, Tony had never acted this way when he came to visit, but he hugged him back. He knew it had been weeks, but they had gone months without seeing each other. Did he really miss him that much? Suddenly, Tony huffed out a laugh and pulled back.

“Sorry… it’s been a rough day,” Tony sighed. His face was barely visible since the only light in the room was coming from the bedside lamp, but Rudolph could see that he was covering his right eye with his hand. “It’s very good to see you Rudy.”

“It is wonderful to see you as well, Tony,” he ran his fingers through his hair until he hit a tangled mass, which Tony seemed to notice.

“So, what do you want to do tonight? Looks like we should deal with your hair first,” Tony chuckled, but his voice was overlaid with exhaustion and another emotion that Rudolph couldn’t quite place. Fear? Anger? Sadness? Pain? 

“I suppose so,” Rudolph copied his laugh, but then floated over to Tony and hovered in the air across from his seat on the side of the bed. “However, first you must tell me what is wrong.” Tony dismissed the request as he waved his other hand in the air and smiled while keeping the upper half of his face shrouded in the dark. 

“It’s no big deal, Rudy. School has just been tough and I…” Tony paused, noticing that Rudolph was not buying it. His arms were crossed and his eyebrow was raised in disbelief. “Okay… fine,” Tony groaned as he lowered his hand away from his eye. Rudolph quietly gasped aloud as he gazed at the swollen purple and black bruise surrounding his eye. It looked awful, and since Rudolph became concerned when Tony even got a papercut, seeing such an obvious injury terrified him.

“T-Tony! What happened?! Are you alright?!” Rudolph flew over to him and put his cold hand against Tony’s cheek. Tony flinched as the whole area around his eye was sore making Rudolph retract his hand immediately. 

“Don’t worry so much, I’m fine. I accidentally tripped and hit this side of my head against my bedpost. It hurts a little bit but it’ll go away soon,” Rudolph took a deep breath as he felt himself relax. At least Tony was alright and that his injury was just a clumsy accident. 

“Well, as long as you’re alright… Then I shall grab the brush,” Tony smiled brightly as he felt relieved that the topic was dropped. He found it strange that Tony didn’t want to talk about it, but he just assumed it was because the fall may have been embarrassing. Luckily, the rest of the night seemed to distract Tony from his bad day. They started by dealing with Rudolph’s tangled hair, which was something that became a habit whenever they got together. Gregory and Anna even made fun of him because they always could tell when he came back from seeing Tony by the fact that his hair didn’t look like a bird’s nest. 

Then they moved onto watching a bunch of cheesy vampire movies which they just ended up criticizing more than actually watching. Tony knew so much more about vampires now, and considering he had the real thing sitting right next to him, they were able to debunk most of the stunts and myths shown in the movies. Either way, it was still fun. The two ended up staying up until about 3:00 a.m before Tony showed signs of falling asleep. They were halfway through their third vampire movie when Rudolph felt something press against his shoulder. When he looked over, Tony had passed out and was now leaning against him. Rudolph smiled as he unhooked his cape from his collar and wrapped it around him. He slowly stood while keeping his arms under Tony so that he didn’t fall over as he grabbed the sheets and pulled them over him. As soon as he was tucked into the bed, Rudolph headed for the window and opened it slowly. Now that Tony was asleep, it was time for Rudolph to go and eat. It had been a long trip after all, but he never wanted Tony to have to worry about that side of the whole vampire thing.

As the sun shined in Tony’s eyes, he winced and started to stir. He woke up at about 10:00 a.m with a note left on his bedside table. It stated: “Your father and I are off shopping about ten minutes away. We will be back around dinner time and then we will be off to the theater. Let us know if you care to join us! Say hello to Rudolph for us! Love you!” 

Tony smiled as he set the note back down and stretched, each segment of his spine popping as his back straightened. Bob, Tony’s father, had built him a life-sized coffin for his birthday one year to play pretend with. It was made of real wood, and it was even stained to have a rich cedar finish. While Tony used to use it when he pretended to be a vampire, it eventually became Rudolph’s bed whenever he came over. He even covered the inside with blankets and pillows so it was extremely comfortable. While it was counterproductive to Rudolph’s love of dark and cramped spaces, he came to really appreciate the comfort of the coffin he slept in at Tony’s place.

“Rudy? You still awake?” Tony mumbled as he leaned over to his bedside where the coffin was lying on the floor. 

“Noisy as always, aren’t you mortal?” Rudolph replied, his voice muffled from the thick wooden slab between them. He was satisfied as soon as he heard Tony laugh from inside his dark sanctuary. What he didn’t see was Tony clutching his side and quietly hissing through his teeth as if he had hurt himself by laughing. He grimaced slightly as he pulled up his t-shirt and observed the dark brown bruises that were scattered over his torso like the splotches on a cow’s hide. As he heard the creaking of the coffin door he quickly pulled his shirt back down and glanced at Rudolph with an optimistic smile. 

“Old habits die hard I guess,” was Tony’s response. Rudolph made sure the coffin door was still slightly shut so that the sunlight couldn’t reach him as he smiled up at him. “Oh! Here’s your cape back by the way,” Tony pulled Rudolph’s cape out from underneath the sheets and tossed it over to him. “I guess I’m not used to staying up that late without you visiting.”

“Don’t worry, I only slightly judged you,” Tony stuck his tongue out at him as Rudolph playfully hissed back. 

“Well, I’m going to go get breakfast. I’ll see you again this evening, okay?” Rudolph nodded with a big yawn as he laid back down in the coffin. 

“Good day, mortal,” the coffin lid closed with a thud as Tony made his way out of the room. Rudolph had just managed to settle in when he heard Tony’s phone go off. Usually, he didn’t intend to snoop in Tony’s personal matters, but he had been acting strangely ever since he came. He wasn’t as awake and excited as he usually was, and he seemed to be sensitive when it came to going for a flight or anything that involved a lot of moving. Rudolph respected his boundaries, but he also wanted to help Tony, even if he didn’t want to be helped. As he opened the lid slightly, he was able to slide the phone into his coffin without coming into contact with the sun. 

When he opened the phone he saw Tony’s usual lock screen, which was a commissioned drawing of him and “a vampire” that just happened to look exactly like Rudolph. He couldn’t take pictures with Rudolph since he never appeared in any of them, but he had hired an artist to draw a digital photo of the two of them just from Tony’s description. Surprisingly, the artist drew him almost perfectly. When he looked at the screen, he saw that there was one notification for an email that came in. Rudolph put in Tony’s password, which was conveniently “Rudy” or “7839” in numbers on the keypad. His home screen was actually a picture of Tony and his parents standing in front of the castle they first met in. Tony was on the very end with one arm around his mom and the other around what looked like nothing. He was actually putting his arm around Rudolph, and that was the photo they first took and realized that he could never be seen in them. It was touching either way that that was Tony’s home screen. Even if he couldn’t be seen, Tony knew who was there. 

As Rudolph finally reached the email, he saw that the sender was named Nigel Appleby. He figured it was someone from school or a friend of his in the neighborhood. That was until he read the subject line. “Better Be There”. Rudolph narrowed his eyes in suspicion as he read on further. 

“If you really do have this ‘vampire friend’, how come none of us have seen him? I for one think it’s a shame you have to depend on imaginary friends to keep you company, Thompson. You couldn’t find a real friend even if you tried. Tell you what, you bring this friend of yours to meet us at 6:00 tonight. If you can prove that you’re not spouting nonsense every single day, which you are, then prove it. You wanna be left alone? Here’s your chance, kid. See you then.

90’s Punk!Michael x Non-Binary Reader  -  1626 Words  -  Part 1 of 1

Notes: This was written for @sadistmichael‘s Michael Week! The title comes from my favorite Black Flag song (i know it’s not from the 90s but it’s a vibe). Shout outs to @sexgodashton, @cheekysos for helping me workshop this! It loosely connects to my other 90′s AU Fic which you can read here!

The hum of the basement sent shockwaves through your veins. The music was alive. It was raw, real, and hypnotic. The DIY t-shirts our front had been up for grabs. They had the handwritten name of the night’s second act and you were more than happy to pull one on. The punk group’s lead vocal and guitarist made your mouth run dry and your knees want to buckle. Michael was an unwitting icon in the fight against commercialization and the bastardization of music. They hated the way the world was turning people into profit, they hated how people like you were treated- and their endless supply of fight left you breathless.

The flash of metal when Michael sang helped too, the piercing had featured in one too many of your own daydreams- and now you couldn’t keep your eyes off it or him. You watched every stroke of his fingers across the strings, hypnotized by how effortlessly they appeared to find their targets. His body moved with all the intoxicating power of his music’s genre and each time his hand wrapped around the microphone you imagined it pressing against your throat.

There were moments while you were screaming along and dancing, where you felt his eyes on you too. The way your body moved was equally as mesmerizing and there was something absolutely sinful about how the DIY shirt clung to your torso. 

Through the smoke and sweat haze of the overcrowded basement, his eyes found yours. Your already flushed face felt hotter as Michael winked at you and licked his lips, his piercing peaking out. 

The lyrics roared through the basement, the screaming guitars and firecracker drums bounced off the cement in a strange battle cry that had everyone out of the corners moving, and screaming. Your mind was still replaying the image of Michael gripping the mic and licking his lips as the music ended. By the time their set ended everyone in the audience had been transformed by the music and shared that ‘just been fucked’ look, their already disheveled aesthetics further unraveled with sweat. Your throat stung and your body felt supercharged looking to fight, fuck, or both. 

Unable to catch your breath you stumbled upon the stairs and around the back of the house. You leaned against the siding and closed your eyes focusing on that first inhale of smoke. The Pacific Northwest night was cold, the rainfall wasn’t expected to start until the next morning and for now, the world around you was at peace despite the riot inside your mind.

You opened your eyes and saw Michael standing near the backdoor lighting a cigarette of his own. You unconsciously licked your lips watching him. Something about him felt magnetic as if some secret part of you was linked to some secret part of him and refused to be denied any longer. 

“That was a really great show,” you called over to him, fighting your urge to cringe at the awkward platitude.

Michael laughed dryly, freely letting his eyes roam over your body as he approached. 

“You come to these things often?”

You shook your head, “my friend’s band played before you,” you grinned and gestured to the homemade shirt you now wore, “but I guess you could say I’ve been converted.” 

Michael cocked an eyebrow, “converted? Does that mean I get to tell you what to do?” For a moment you noticed the bright color of his eyes before his pupils turned black and intense. The change made your mouth run dry. 

“You’ll just have to try-” you whispered, sliding against Michael, looping your arms over his denim jacket and around his neck. He tasted like sickly sweet copper, cigarettes, and salt- a deadly combination that you instantly craved more of. You let Michael walk you back against the side of the house until you were pressed together. 

The kisses had turned into desperate gnashing of teeth and tongues that left you devastatingly excited when he broke the kiss. Michael panted against your cheek, his hands thickly running over the shirt that read his name. It stretched across your chest tightly the peaks of your nipples teasing him from behind the fabric and he was getting impatient. 

“Can I take this off?” Michael tugged harshly on the shirt and you nodded through the sex-fueled haze. 

He deftly slid a pocket knife out of his jacket and slashed down the front of your shirt before the lusty strangled gasp fell from your lips.“ Oh, you liked that,” he crooned mockingly, pressing you into the wall with his hips, “let’s see what else you like.” He teasingly pressed the flat side of the blade against your collar bone, eagerly drinking up the noises you made at the cool sensation.

Michaels hands now explored your body openly, his mouth often trailing behind as the shirt flashed between movements. The fire was growing too strong between you. In a passionate play of hands and knives and the resounding sound of metal- your pants were pushed to the ground and Michale’s moved down his thighs. You eagerly wrapped your legs around his waist as he lifted and pressed you into the wall, his growing erection pressing against you teasingly.

His hands clawed over your exposed shoulders and down your back pulling you closer and pushing deeper through your arousal. The scents of cheap beer, cigarettes, sex, and rock’n’roll made your head spin and your knees weak. Your head fell back against the cool siding, a fervent moan escaping your lips as his mouth and bit kissed down your neck.

The trail he left behind flushed pink and then blood-red as the tiny blood vessels burst like fireworks under your skin. His tongue piercing added a stark contrast as he soothed the marks, all while tightening the knot of pleasure growing in your core.

His thrusts scraped your back against the wall, the pain sending shocks of pleasure down your body. He was bigger than you had anticipated and the slight stretch burned deliciously through your body. Michael’s pace was relentless, rocking yourself out your body into the wall bruises blooming across your skin.

Your whines and moans echoed into the night, and down in the basement, another band started. The music reverberated through the house and you felt the dull thrum start again, thankful for the growing noise as you screamed through your climax. Michael’s thrusts became erratic as he chased his own release, each movement overstimulating your sensitive body. 

He shuddered and moaned sinfully as he came, the sound driving you crazy. The blissed-out moment ended time quickly as the clang and stutter of the side screen door echoed around the house. 

Michael swore and carefully set you back on your feet. The both of you shuffled pants back up as footsteps approached.

“Hey!” You said elbowing him pointedly gesturing at the tattered shirt you had been wearing. 

A wolfish grin spread across his face, “what’s wrong sugar? You look great without it.”

You cocked an eyebrow giggling lightly as he handed you his patchwork jacket, which kept the cold out quite nicely. Michael swallowed thickly at the sight of you, easily backing you against the wall for a kiss, teasingly darting his hands under the jacket and around your waist. 

He was about to make a comment about how you almost wore it better than him when another couple stumbled around the corner. They smelled like they were drunk or high, and giggled excessively upon seeing the other couple already there. 

“Sorry, mate didn’t see ‘ya there,” called the blonde who towered over the person in front of him. Even in the partial light you recognized your friend and tried to hide behind Michael. 

Michael laughed again, a dry sound that masked the sound of his ignored belt refastening. “No problem, we were finishing up,” he said with a smirk before quickly walking back to the house, exposing you to your friend. 

They exaggeratedly grinned at you, “nice threads, whaddya do for ‘em?” 

You rolled your eyes at the joke, “nothing you haven’t… d’ya have a light?” 

They nodded and handed you a cigarette, before nodding over to their companion. “Think I should take him home?” You laughed around your cigarette and pretended to carefully inspect her newest prospect. 

“Well, he’s got that starry-eyed golden retriever look going for ‘em. The black nails are a nice touch though. But I’d have to say, uh-“ 

“Luke,” they offered you helpfully.  

“Luke,” you said nodding, “might be fun for a bit.” 

“That’s funny I was just thinking that about,” they said nodding towards Michael. 

“Michael,” you said grinning. 

You both giggled looking between the two and you were happy to see Michael lingering near the side of the house. Although he had a cigarette smoldering in his hand you hoped it was because of you. 

“I think,” your friend said giggling again, “we should share.” 

You laughed openly and shook your head before unconsciously clenching your jaw finally feeling the burning soreness in your thighs. You held the denim jacket tight over your body to keep the cold off your skin, greedily breathing in Michael’s distinct scent. You stomped out the end of your cigarette and smiled at your friend before wishing them good luck. 

You walked away and then turned to walk up the stoop, almost stumbling when Michael grabbed your wrist and pulled you back. He wrapped his arm around your waist under the jacket that was his, causing gooseflesh to spread across your skin. He held you close to him again and you felt his hot breath on your face, “if you’re not too busy,” he said licking his lips teasingly flashing the metal piercing, “I’m not done with you yet.”

A Jumbled Drive pt 3

I hoped she didn’t try and find me. The tone she had used when she called out unnerved me. Rend had used it a couple times on Live TV. It was the tone she used when she badly wanted something.

Rend always got what she wanted.

Beginning| Part 2|

It’s been a couple days since I met Rend face to face, nothing has happened yet. I hope it stays that way, the last thing I need is a road trip with happy early risers. Revolting. Who the hell enjoys rising before the sun? Not to mention the media attention along the way. I tended to... embarrass myself when I’m on Live TV.

But oh well, I can’t focus on that now. It’ll ruin my whole day. For once I’m in a good mood, I’ve been sleeping through the night for most this week. A nice change from the four hours I get every night. I wonder if it’s because I haven’t seen Tunani lately... that must be why this week has been so good!

I rolled over and picked up my phone. 6:28. “Time to get up.” I mumbled, rubbing my eyes. I sighed and scooted out of bed. Digging my toes in the thick, soft rug that surrounded my bed, I pause, letting my senses finish rebooting.

“Faaannnggg!” A voice whines, the owner snuggled deeper into the covers. “Don’t goooo... you’re so warm and it’s too early!”

I froze, well speak of the devil. Somehow, Tunani’s in my bed. Again. I can’t rid myself of this human equivalent of a disease.

I rolled my eyes, “You already know this. I get up early every morning.”

“Please?” She asked.

“No.” I shot her a cold look. “How did you even get in here?”

She huffed and disappeared into the covers.

“Answer.” My tone booked no argument.

Unearthly sounds escaped from the lump on the bed. Tunani creeped me out in ways I never thought possible.

The lump started to wiggle and a small opening appeared, but nothing came out.

“Fine.” Tunani grumbled from her blanket tomb, “I asked Conner to let me in.”

What? That’s all? I thought there’d be more... weird details. “Asked Conner?” I slowly repeated.

“Yea, he has a key to your room. He uses it whenever he does the weekly search.” She said nonchalantly.

He WHAT? I knew my room was searched, but I didn’t know who did it. Well, now I knew. Conner, the Conner searched my room! I just hoped that he didn’t find any of pictures I’d drawn of him. They were kinda... explicit... and nude.. porn, it was basically porn.

I took a deep breath in, trying to cool the boiling volcano of anger.

“Tunani.” I said through my teeth.

“Yes, my dear Fang?” Her casual singsong voice almost made me snap. Amazing how much she got under my skin.

“How long have you known?”

“Hmm...” I mentally pictured her thinking face, lips puckered and brows furrowed. “I guess about a year now.”

A YEAR? Conner’s been going through my stuff for a whole year? And she never thought to tell me?! This little —ugh!

You know what, breathe Fang. It’s alright, it’s all gonna be alright. Deep breaths in and slowly exhale. You’re doing fine. It’s gonna be perfectly fine, once you murder this stupid leprechaun and bury her far from here.

“Tunani you have ten seconds to get out of my room before I murder you.”

She bolted upright, “What! What do you mean ten seconds? What did I do?!”

I started counting down. “Ten.”

“No!” She screamed, “Fang don’t make me get up, the bed’s warm!”

“Nine.”

“B-but I didn’t do anythi—“

“— eight”

She was on the verge on tears now.

“Fang...” She whispered, giving me puppy dog eyes.

I stopped counting and sighed. I’ve gotten weak. I climbed back into bed and opened my arms. “Come here, you baby.”

Tunani gasped and threw herself straight onto my chest, knocking most of the air from my lungs.

Mental note to never do that again.

Tunani molded herself to me like putty to a counter. It was weird. Right when she got comfortable, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID, ‘Director Cur’. I answered it.

“Yes.”

“Come here, I have a assignment for you.”

“Yes.”

“Yes what?”

I hung up. That pig didn’t deserve to be called sir. He kissed up to people far too much. He constantly searched for lose money and preyed upon all women within a hundred foot radius. If he had a backbone, it’s surely gone now.

He disgusted every bone in me, I wanted to take a shower just from being in his presence. If we were in the 18th Century, he’d already be dead. His body put on display for all the cowards to see.

Sighing, I pushed Tunani off and climbed out of bed. Again.

“Not again!” Tunani grumbled.

I ignored her and walked into the bathroom to get ready for the day. Afterward, I put on my super suit ‘Deciever’ and headed to the Director’s office, leaving Tunani fast asleep on my bed.

All Heroes have professionally made suits. Due to each suit being special in its own way, they all have names.

I floated down the seemingly endless halls to the elevator— to be honest it’s an anti-gravity tube, it can take you almost everywhere in the Compound—, clicking the button for the Directors Office immediately after I got in.

“Identify yourself.” A robotic female voice said. That’s Marie, she’s the A.I that was built into the compound, she controls most of the functions of the building. From flushing the toilet to opening the hanger doors, she even has a robot body that she controls.

“Black Rat.” I answered. Yes, I do hate my ID name, but is no accident it’s like that. Conner set it to remind me that I was verman, that I was beneath every Hero here. According to him, all I did was spread filth and disease. Like how rats spread the Black Death, hence the name “Black Rat”.

A couple of seconds passed before Marie spoke again.

“Access granted, the Director has approved you.”

The elevator shot up, reaching its max speed of 86 mph in seven seconds. I barely felt anything going up, only the occasional vibration. After about thirty seconds, the elevator chimed, I’d reached the office.

The moment I stepped off the elevator, I sensed Rend in the Director’s office. This wasn’t good. I stopped at the wooden door and knocked softly before entering, head bowed.

“Yes, Director.”

“About time you got here! Why’d you take so long!” He barked.

I didn’t say anything, it took me eleven minutes to get here. That’s probably the same time it takes for him to get up from that chair.

He cleared his throat, “Well, Miss Rend here,” he gestured to his right, my left, “requested that you join her as an escort on her trip. She also mentioned that you’d turned her down the first time she asked you, for no reason too. Of course, we both know that you made a big mistake!”

Turning to Rend, he greedily smiled at her. “The Black would love to go with you, wouldn’t you B-man?”

That nickname sucked, but I got the message. Say yes or you’ll regret it. Turning to Rend, head still bowed, I addressed her.

“Yes, I would. I made a mistake previously, please forgive me.”

“Of course! All is forgiven.” She chirped, clapping. “And please, call me Erica. I’m so glad you changed your mind! The trip will be fun, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.”

“I’m sure I will.”

Like hell I will! Erica just moved from #1 on my list of Favorite Heroes, to #1 on my list of Least Favorite Heroes.

“Miss.. Erica.” The Director said, lingering on her name. Absolutely disgusting. “Since this... issue is resolved and I’m sure you have a busy schedule...”

“Oh! Yes!” Erica exclaimed, “I better get going, I’m glad everything’s settled. See you later!”

I moved to let her exit, turning to follow her.

“Not you B-man,” The Director called, “we still need to.. address some issues.”

Dread filled my stomach as I stepped back and closed the office door. As soon as we heard the soft click, it started.

I whimpered as what felt like claws shredded the inside of my body, spreading through my body from the neck, then it disappeared. My vision swam and my legs shook.

“Who, do you think you are?” He spat, “I own you. The only reason you aren’t buried six feet under is because of me! I saved your worthless hide and you repay me by refusing one of the most famous Heroes of all time? I don’t care what Erica wants, if she asks you to do something then you say yes!” He took several breaths, calming a little.

“Even if you have to give your body, not that anyone would want it, you still say yes. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes.” I whispered

“What was that?”

“Yes!” I repeated, louder this time.

Another wave of pain doubled me over, lingering longer than the previous. I gasped through my clenched teeth.

“Yes.. what?”

“Yes sir.”

He laughed, “That’s more like it! Now,” He gestured towards the door, “get out of my sight.”

I opened the door and stumbled out. No one else was in sight. Thank goodness, I don’t want to be seen like... like this. Weak and pathetic.

I wish I could fight back, but a special collar fastened around my neck limited my powers. The invisible collar was placed when they first captured me, a permanent reminder that I was owned, a mere pet. A collar that shocked its wearer when they dare bark.

I reached the elevator, entered, and slid down to the floor. I felt so tired. No matter how much I pretended, reality struck. I am chained to this compound.

“Maybe... it’ll work this time...” I barely recognized my own voice, it sounded different somehow.

Maybe... just maybe. I scoffed aloud, what was I thinking. That wasn’t the answer, it never was and never would be. I should know, I’ve tried it several times already. It’s foolhardy to think that this instance would be the golden ticket.

My emotions were getting out of hand. Taking a deep breath I pictured a safe. I bundled up my emotions like sheets and threw them into the safe, where they couldn’t escape. Then I closed and locked it.

“Where too?” Maire asked.

“Take me to the Dormitory, I need to pack.”

Anyone watching the elevator would’ve seen Fang exit, devoid of all emotion.

An Old Death.

   Burning. Dying always burns.

   Eyes unable to hold the tears, as his a fear deeply seeded into his mind starts its echoing;               This will be the last. This will be the last.

    His body stutters, and blood pools into his hands cupping the wound. It stung. It burned so badly, the hole in his chest. But not quite as much as seeing the familiar face of a scorned boy,  a ghost he thinks. A ghost of a boy he put his knife through. 

                                         It was mercy, he said, it was mercy.

        But, it didn't stop the crying, the begging, the pleading.

               “Stop groveling on your knees. I am not God, I do not heed your prayers.” His voice hush against the vacant, desolate ruin of a house. A hand gripping the collar of a boy and hoisting him to his feet, up to meet his gaze. “I am not God so save your prayers for your brothers soul, boy.”

           The rest of his men didn't look at him, they didn't need to. His hands bloodied with some poor boys blood, his uniformed stained with it. The stench of copper filling his senses, an ache settling in his chest. He can hear another man retching in the other room, another boy. They put him in charge of kids, ones that should be at home with their mothers tending to the fields or keeping her safe from the bombs. Yet here they are, cowering in a carved out ruin of a home with rotting corpses upstairs, in a country that didn't care for them.

        He sank to the floor, a flask to his lips and his mind praying for the loss. This war, this ugly bitter war. His eyes settled on watching the boy, grieving and cradling a corpse. A ghost holding itself, he thinks. Triplets turned twins. The other boy wasn't in his company yet. He imagined he would be. And twins would become a son. It aches. His hands and his chest all ache, yet it doesn't show on his face. Grieving had no place on him anymore,  he thinks. Grieving is for the living, and he's so very aware he hasn't been alive in decades.

      “You could have saved him. You could have saved him, but you killed him,” the boy shouts at him, the gun still pointed at him in shaking hands. “You should have died instead of him.”

       There’s a fire in his eyes, somewhere between scorn and determination. At this point, it might as well have be the same thing. Rage and ruin resting in a mourning boys chest. It makes him smile, wickedly with the blood filtering through his sharp teeth. “And what will you do with another corpse on your hands? Sacrifice me to bring him back? You are no witch, you are a scared, sad little boy who wants his mother.”

      The next shot he sees coming, and it doesn't burn anymore. He feels it carve through his chest, ribs splintering under it, and lung tearing from the shards of bone scattering through. Air sucking through a gaping wound, his eyes never leaving the boy across from him even as the grass gives way for him. Even when he spits out more blood, and feels nothingness consuming him.

          “Missed,” he taunts as his fingers coil around his ankle, pulling him down with the last of his strength, “Missed.”

      NOTHINGNESS is always so brief, but so terrifying. There is nothing all around him, or in him. There is no sound from his lungs. Nothing moves when he wills it. He is nothing.  He is trapped in obsidian, looking towards the moment he left behind and falling through the others. Falling. Plummeting into the dark, deep nothingness. An abyss that swallows him up every death. And every time here leaves him less and less afraid of truly dying.

       Fingers dug into dirt. His eyes burned, and he felt his body recoiling with the pain. His stomach tight as another piece of his skin was shredded. He kept pulling, kept crawling. He looked up, pleading. And saw only faces, excited and cheering for his death. There was no kindness to be found in the halls of the coliseum. There was no kindness in Rome. Not for monsters. Not for children. So he closed his eyes, and screamed till it bubbled and his lungs gave up.

      It was the first time that nothingness had consoled him. Had given him a rest from the fear. It was not the last either. Not within that sand, not within that city.  He remembers every way they killed him, and every face that smiled at his deaths. How hatred should have boiled his blood for mankind, but he was a child then. He was scared, and did not know how to hate. No one had taught him hate, no one taught him how to love or care either. They taught him to fight, to be hated, to be a monster. And so he was. 

      The nothingness has consumed him so many times, so many ways since then. Slow and agonizing or quick and merciful. Every time growing less and less terrifying, despite how very deep this abyss is getting. Dying now is simply drifting, fear subsiding as the memories wash over him. Brief escapes from nothing, to something painful. Something alive.

    The heat was overwhelming. His body tried, and failed, to drag itself further. To find his father, his brother. He found only collapsed bodies and screaming. And then in an instance he was suffocating with burning lungs and his body burning. He wanted to scream but he couldn't move. He couldn't move and he couldn't see. And he was terrified. The nothingness was not cold and forgiving like it had been. It was burning, searing pain for moments far longer than the abyss. He wanted to weep and find his father. He wanted to be with them. He wanted — 

     Rope coiled around his throat, and a smile, flaking dried blood. He looked at the red coats around him, and grinned so wicked. A demon standing with mere mortals, they thought. Some bastard who spoke no English and cursed only old gods. They had killed him over and over, years of seeing those red coats. He did not fear dying to them. He thrived in their panic when he, a ghost to them, held a knife to their throat.      “Death will not stop me,” he spoke, loudly in a language they knew. Words he had gathered. And a laugh that echoed in the stones. It was his first and, to them, last words in English as bones snapped in his spine.

     The graves stood so still. Names blurring with his vision. Faces crawling from the earth didn't bother him anymore. His little girl smiling in her old age, holding his hand with his wife beside him. His wife, his beautiful wife. And the pair of twins holding each other, hands stretched out for him. His eyes burned, warmth rolling down his cheeks. How he missed them dearly. And his wife yet beckoned him home, beckoned him to be there with them. How they all cried 

                                     Come Home.

     Cold metal weighed gently in his hand. It burned his fingers, and left him alone on those graves.

  Moments and moments pass by his mind. Life was supposed to flash before your eyes, he heard. But this was never a flash, it’s feature film length. Over a thousand years, a thousand deaths replaying in his mind every time. Ages he lived, an endless realm of memories to live through. All dying. All dead. He knows his life was long. This place, this lingering goddamned limbo,  reminding him how long. All those deaths, those lives he lived, felt like only a few years ago.

    It is ALL just moments ago.        Fresh and there and real and horrifying. His hands still clawing at the sands. The eruption of a volcano destroying his home, his family. The noose around his neck. Bullet through his temple. A sword through his chest. Gas burning his lungs. Shrapnel digging into his skin, and a breaking his limbs. And a shot to his forehead, recent and unnoticed. 

        In this lingering limbo, he can hear the echoing voice:                   This will be the last. This will be the last.            His own voice, echoing in the distance. Terrified and alone. But fading, choking beneath the inky black limbo. Yet its still there, still echoing loud enough to keep him scared. And it fades just as the nothingness fades, slowly into a haze of grey and red. And another voice speaks. A voice that did not belong to anyone he knew, echoing as it always did as the nothing faded, in a language he doesn't know but understands so very clearly; 

                 Blades do not die. They break. But they do not die. Get up. Fight.

     He didn't open his eyes yet. Just laid there, grass cradling him and the snow building on his chest. Cold, bitter air filling his lungs with a burning sensation and blood pooling in his throat. It would heal. Always did, always would, he figures.

      Another breath as he pushes himself off the ground. A prayer, thankful, leaves him with the breath out. He still fears death. Still fears leaving behind his love friend, even if he stopped seeming to care of his own life. Death is unforgiving to those that did not die. For it took, and took, and it was not kind when it did. He knows that better than most.

      His boots hitting the floorboards startle everyone in the ruin. His hands don't raise with the guns, they don't stay long enough to care. He doesn't pay mind to the questions pouring from his men, nor did he consider them. They were the usual ones.    ‘How are you alive?’ ‘What are you?’ ‘We saw you die, how?’  A ghost of a boy, and the ghost of his brother simply stared at him. Terrified. But he only shoots them a glance. A discussion for another day.

Dual Fate Weapons

Magic Weapon (variable type), Very Rare, requires attunement by a ranger

Dual Fate Weapons are pairs of weapon that do more when used together. Apart, they are each a magic blade that have their own abilities. When a creature is hit by one of each of the paired weapons in the same round, it produces an additional effect. Each weapon should look distinct from its partner but have some sort of similar feature, like its shape, an engraved symbol, a similar hilt, or other such decoration. Note that the Wax weapon from Wax/Wane is a longsword (a non-light weapon), which requires the Dual-Wielder feat to properly wield with Wane.

Firestoke/Iceshard: Firestoke is a scimitar that deals +1d4 fire damage on hit. Iceshard is a scimitar that deals +1d4 cold damage on hit. When a creature is hit by attacks from both weapons in the same round, a burst of fire and shards of ice blast all creatures in a 10 ft. radius of the creature. Those creatures must make a DEX save or take 1d4 fire and 1d4 cold damage.

Duskblade/Dawnblade: Duskblade and Dawnblade are both +2 short swords. When a creature is hit by attacks from both weapons in the same round, the weapons drain the victim's life force. The wielder is healed for 1d8 damage and the creature takes an additional 1d4 necrotic and 1d4 radiant.

Mindfang/Venomfang: Mindfang is a dagger that deals +1d8 psychic damage on hit. Venomfang is a dagger that deals +1d8 poison damage on hit. When a creature is hit by attacks from both weapons in the same round, the weapons bombard the creature's mind and body. The creature must make a WIS and a CON save with a DC of 14. On a failed WIS save, the creature becomes frightened for 1d4 rounds. On a failed CON save, the creature becomes poisoned for 1d4 rounds.

Boom/Crash: Boom is a light hammer that deals +1d4 thunder damage on hit. Crash is a hand axe that deals +1d4 lightning damage on hit. When a creature is hit by attacks from both weapons in the same round, a loud, blinding bolt of lightning strikes the swords. All enemies within 30 ft. must make a CON save with a DC of 14. On a failed save, a creature becomes deafened and blinded for 1d4 rounds.

Wax/Wane: Wax is a +1 longsword and Wane is a +1 dagger. When a creature is hit by attacks from both weapons in the same round, the weapons bolster the wielder and weaken the enemy. The wielder gains 8 temporary HP that disappear after 1 minute and the target gains 1 level of exhaustion. Creatures that become exhausted in this way cannot gain more than 3 levels of exhaustion in this way.

Tooth/Nail: Tooth is a +1 short sword and Nail is a +1 war pick. When a creature is hit by attacks from both weapons in the same round, the weapons cause the wielder to push themselves beyond their normal limits. The wielder can make one extra attack each with tooth and with nail. This ability can only be used once per round.

Fleshrender/Bloodflayer: Fleshrender and Bloodflayer are both +1 sickles. When a creature is hit by attacks from both weapons in the same round, the creature must make a DC 14 CON saving throw or else become crippled as fleshrender rips a tendon. The creature's maximum DEX is reduced by 1. This ability damage is recovered when the creature receives magical healing or after finishing a long rest. In addition, Bloodrender opens a wound that bleeds for 1 damage each round for 1 minute.

Beastmaster's Lenses

Wondrous Item (Head), Rare, requires attunement by a ranger with an animal companion

A set of goggles with empty lenses that become lit with dim yellow light when in use. At will, you can see through the eyes and other senses of your animal companion and directly control their movement and actions. While using this ability, your body cannot move or take actions and you must maintain concentration.

Beast Barding

Magic Armor, Variable Rarity, requires attunement by a ranger's animal companion

This armor warps to fit its wearer, but can only be worn by a ranger's animal companion. The barding increases the creature's AC by either +1 (Rare), +2 (Very Rare), or +3 (Legendary). The armor does not alter the creature's base AC like regular armor.

Boots of Familiar Ground

Wondrous Item (feet), Very Rare, requires attunement by a ranger

A pair of boots that are always comfortable and become embossed with imagery reminiscent of the attuned ranger's homeland. Once per long rest, you may spend a bonus action to overlay the area surrounding you in a 150 ft. cube with an illusory terrain or environment from your past. This illusion is very familiar to you, personally, and you gain advantage on Stealth, Perception, Athletics, and Acrobatics checks in the area, as well as a +1 bonus to AC. The illusion lasts for 10 minutes and functions similarly to the Hallucinatory Terrain spell. A DC 15 WIS saving throw disbelieves the illusion, but does not see through it.

Collar of Ferocity

Wondrous Item (Neck), Rare, requires attunement by a ranger's animal companion

A leather collar with spikes made from bear teeth. A ranger's animal companion can enter a rage similar to that of a barbarian for 1 minute. While in this state, the creature's size increase one size category and the creature gains +2 damage to all attacks. They also gain advantage on STR-related ability checks and saving throws and resistance to nonmagical weapon damage. The creature must finish a short or long rest before using this ability again.

Companion Claws

Wondrous Item (hands), Rare, requires attunement by a ranger with an animal companion

A pair of thick leather gloves with four serpent fangs studding the knuckles. As long as your animal companion is within 15 ft. of you, both of you gain +2 poison damage on all of your melee attacks.

Habitat Totem

Wondrous Item, Uncommon, requires attunement by a ranger with an animal companion

This small wooden totem is covered in carved patterns and binds with an animal companion after a short rest with the ranger and companion. Once bound to an animal, the patterns shift into a semblance of the animal bound to it. At this point it can be used with a bonus action to dismiss and summon the animal companion at will. While dismissed, the beast is transported to a comfortable, safe demiplane that takes the form of their desired habitat.

Helm of Beastsense

Wondrous Item (Head), Common, requires attunement by a ranger

A leather helmet with a face mask that looks like a wolf. The wearer of this helm gains the Keen Scent ability (Perception checks involving smell are made with advantage).

Hidepiercer Axe

Magic Weapon (axe), Rare, requires attunement by a ranger

This battleaxe is a deep-toothed blade that magically tears through tough scales and thick hides of beasts. This weapon has +2 on attack rolls against creatures with natural armor, and on a critical hit, it permanently reduces the creature's armor class by 1 until the creature finishes a long rest.

Magical Missiles

Magic Weapon (any ammunition), variable rarity

A list of many different possible enchantments that can be imbued upon any ammunition (arrows, bolts, darts, or sling bullets). Each item consumes its enchantment after being used, so even if it is recovered it will not work its magic again. While the magic lasts, however, the ammunition counts as a magic weapon for the purposes of overcoming resistances and immunities. The ammunition typically costs one half the price of a typical item of its rarity. For instance, a Rare magical missile would cost between 250 and 2,500 gp instead of between 500 and 5,000 gp.

Fog Cloud Missile: Uncommon. When this missile lands, a cloud of fog emanates from the missile's point of origin and spreads out to a 15 ft. radius. The cloud dissipates from a strong wind and is blocked by solid walls but spreads around corners. If an attack misses the intended target, it lands in a random space adjacent to the target.

Ghostspeaker Missile: Uncommon. To use this missile, speak a short message (a sentence or two) into it, then fire it. Wherever the missile lands, it speaks the recorded message as if you were standing where the missile landed.
