Did you see the picture from the daily mail of the hotel workers carrying Liam's lifeless body to his hotel room? Do you still think the staff shouldn't be held responsible in some way for his death? I'm not blaming them because I understand this was an accidental fall but this wasn't a case of them having to restrain someone high on drugs. He was literally passed out and they chose to physically carry him to his hotel room and leave him alone. That's negligent
My basic politics and beliefs haven't been changed by those pictures anon. I don't think hotel service workers are responsible for the health and wellbeing of very wealthy clients. I think if there is any responsiblity it would lie with the hotel and the leadership of the hotel, not the individuals who were working. I think there's a lot we don't know about what sort of help was and wasn't available and the risks of asking for that help for Liam
I don't want to get fully into the negligence question - because that's a legal framework and I'm not really interested in it. So I'll just say that I think its a long bow to suggest that this particular bad outcome was forseeable.
So I'll say this - it's not easy to know how to respond to someone who is an altered mental state. I know New Zealand isn't well set up for it - either in terms of capacity or breadth of skill. Often here responsibility falls on individuals who know the person, or are just around the person at that time. We don't have a good social safety net, collective response, or ways of supporting the individuals who are responding. I doubt Argentina is any different.
I understand how awful it is to know that Liam could have survived the day if things had just been a little different. But I think it's important not to give into a fantasy of it being easy and there being a right answer. In the sort of society I'd want to live in - then there would always be more than enough resourced teams of emergency addiction and mental health specialists on call who knew how to help someone in crisis without blowing up their lives. There would always be someone to call and they would always get there quickly. There would also be adequate staffing at all service jobs so that it was possible for staff members to attend to someone in crisis early.
We don't live in that world. And blaming individuals who are trying to get paid and keep their jobs under difficult circumstances - for the fact that we don't live in that world - goes against everything I believe in.

one thing that took me embarrassingly long to learn is "sometimes when people say things, they will not be true."
I used to tell people about this revelation and they'd be like yeah.....duh.....but like, why wouldn't my base assumption be that you're communicating to me in a straightforward manner. anyway, I get scammed a lot.

solas dragon age is like what if there was a man who kept running into the trolley problem over and over again except the stakes are thousands of lives no matter what choice is made. and instead of focusing on the lives saved through action, he and everyone else instead decide to focus on the people he actively killed through making his choices and villainize him for it until he and everyone else sees only that narrative.
and then rook dragon age is like if someone else was presented with the trolley problem and you think they're going to learn the same lessons and gain the same pains and regret as the first man except instead they a) end up putting the blame on solas for their decision to switch trolley tracks at the beginning and then after that b) god descends from heaven and tells them "it's ok you're perfect let's make this issue easy for you so there's a clear right answer" and uses magic to teleport away the people on one path of the trolley so they don't have to make any meaningful sacrifice.
and then rook turns to solas and goes "see you're such a stupid bad guy, i was in the same situation as you and i made Good Choices because i'm a Good Guy" and in the end solas and everyone else are basically like "yeah that's true time for solas to give up his silly little plans that had no merit and let's not even bother seeing if we can address the problems he was trying to fix in different ways" and rook gets to end the game pretending like they faced the same difficult decisions as solas but rose above when he couldn't.

The more I think about it, the more I question Arcane S2's politics and themes, which were so foundational to S1. Like, a tiny example [SPOILERS AHEAD]:
Singed wins. He gets exactly what he wants in the end. All his "efforts" are rewarded. What does that say about people who share his ideology of eugenics? He is the source of nearly every horrible thing and conflict that happened (Shimmer, the factory deaths, Jinx, Vander as Warwick, the corruption of Viktor), and he gets a happier ending than any other character. Not even a 'he got what he wanted but he has become completely unrecognizable/monstrous to his daughter' tag at the end. You can say they're setting him up and need to open his daughter to future shows, but the way you end a character's story says something about what you think about that character. What does it say when the eugenicist war criminal gets the happy ending he doesn't deserve?

Favoritism
(Dark Justiciar!Shadowheart still being the worst Sharran ever despite being Mother Superior and Shar’s Chosen and going on a 10 minute long, basically unprompted, gushing, unbecoming-of-her-status rant about how amazing Nocturne is and how she’s her favorite and the others can die mad about it… impeccably consistent character writing)

Just a little PSA: I'm deleting every reblog I have talking about Israel and Palestine.
I knew I didn't know very much about what was going on, but seeing the horrors of what was happening, I felt compelled to try and help. One way I thought I was helping was by reblogging things I thought seemed important/worth sharing as a way to spread the word.
It's since been pointed out to me that this wasn't actually helpful and was actually quite the opposite. What was actually happening, unfortunately is that I was spreading misinformation and hate. That was definitely not my intention and I want to sincerely apologize for doing so.
Until I've completed the much needed research I need to do on the subject, I'll remain quiet and on the sidelines. Reading posts by Jewish people and learning real ways to be helpful.
I am so genuinely sorry for my ignorance, and I cannot believe my actions may have contributed to getting people killed. That's not my intention and it never will be. ❤
If anyone would like to chat privately - whether to vent or whatever - please feel free! I want Jewish people (and other minorities) to feel nothing but safe talking to me/on my blog. I'm here to listen, if needed.
