Around 6 years ago, there existed a nasty and inconsiderate trend on YouTube. YouTubers on YouTube would upload videos in which they bought tons, tons in its literal sense, of food. It could be cheese, nutella, ramen, fizzy drinks or anything you could think of. Then they would put all that food in their bathtub, or an inflatable pool, and jump in it. Yes, they would bath in it. The food was often left unsalvageable. Some YouTubers were considerate and salvaged the used food, but many had much of it wasted. So, after years, I suddenly came up with an idea. Let us start a new trend. The idea is to have every YouTuber who had participated in this trend to donate as much food as they had used on their channel, irrespective of whether they salvaged it or not, and upload the video of them distributing the food on their channel. Used 144 packs of ramen? Cook all of them and distribute them among the needy. Bathed in 600 lbs of nutella? In 520 lbs of chocolate? 1500 oreos? Nachos and cheese? Spaghetti? Cheese balls? Spaghetti with cheese and nutella sandwich for main course, nachos and cheese balls for snacks, and chocolate and oreos for dessert. Bam! A whole meal is ready. Like this, you can actually feed the needy all three meals of the day. And I don’t want just those YouTubers participating. I would hope for others to participate too. I would want myself to participate in this challenge too, or even begin it if I’m that quick.

I am one of those who have followed the mission of the SAMEYOU charity from the very beginning and I am very proud of it! I "survived" a brain injury, after a "car-pedestrian" accident in 2012! I have permanent sequels, in part because I haven't received the help, resources and support to regain some of my abilities. A poor understanding of this condition, but especially the too many obstacles to get out of this hell, makes me particularly sensitive to this cause that is close to my heart. Even in a country considered “progressive”, victims of head trauma are neglected. If it hadn't been for my mother, I wouldn't be here to testify... In 2022 I experienced the pangs of an AIT, then a second time, a month ago. My mother had two small strokes a few years ago and one of my aunts died of a ruptured aneurysm at the age of 42. I am therefore participating in this new challenge "You are what you eat", in the hope of contributing to change, of offering the chance to others to obtain the support that my loved ones and I haven't had and to make people aware of this reality that many people have or will have. Cooking/baking is a brand new passion for me. Having major health problems, I had to find new hobbies (yep again! 😅) and cooking became a way for me to express my creativity. Without pretension and without pressure! I don't have any particular talent apart from curiosity (But that's all I need). With inflation and my limited budget, I have to renew myself, be imaginative and turn to new avenues! These dreams symbolize the resilience of Gaza’s children, showing that hope and determination can survive even the most difficult circumstances.

In the heart of the ongoing war, Shaima lives with her four children, constantly struggling with pain and waiting. Her husband, who was once the source of security and happiness, left a long time ago, facing the challenges of war far from them. Every day, Shaima makes earnest efforts to keep life going despite the hardships. She strives to provide food and shelter while trying to instill hope in the hearts of her children, who are still waiting for their father’s return, a father they know little about other than his absence. Her four children, despite their young age, carry great hopes in their hearts. The eldest, who everyone sees as the "little father," dreams of their father returning to embrace them as he did in the past. I'd like to bring to attention the fact that the figures depicted above are a gross undercount of the actual number of deaths. I scoured the internet high and low to source my findings and not a single one could break down the devastation that befell an individual ethnicity. Instead, they lumped a bunch of ethnicities together, provided a general timeline, and called it a day, reinforcing the sheer scale of dehumanization propagated in the west. The only consistency between all the articles I looked up was the 4.5 to 4.7 million figure I've included above, and even then, they were all published by western media news outlets... the very same that have been so unreliable and complicit in the genocide of Palestinians today. So I have to take everything they say with a grain of salt.

We are not just numbers.

Attend a protest, be LOUD.

Challenge your circle of friends, family and colleagues with conversations about Palestine. (THIS IS THE MOST UNDERRATED AND MOST EFFECTIVE THING YOU CAN DO)

and if you're really up to, be disruptive in any capacity that you can think of towards major corporations benefiting from this onslaught. (i.e. halting military manufacturers from production + shipments, sticking boycott stickers on products at your market etc)

And finally, if your country wasn't mentioned in the above excerpt, it was no deliberate omission on my part and I encourage you to come forward and tell your story about the suffering of your people so that this may be a learning opportunity for everyone.

I am writing about my family: my father Bakr (54 years old), my mother Alaa (46 years old), and my sisters Aya (18 years old), Amal (15 years old), Muhammad (13 years old), and Maryam (8 years old). We have faced many challenges in this war, from the destruction of our home to the famine we continue to suffer in northern Gaza.

My father suffers from heart problems. He had open-heart surgery when he was 36 years old. He also suffers from cartilage problems. He had his pelvic joint replaced about two years ago, in addition to other health problems. He cannot work due to his health condition.

My mother also suffers from asthma and shortness of breath, in addition to the difficulty of obtaining treatment due to the conditions and the war.

I Samer Abu Ras, am reaching out to you with a heartfelt humanitarian appeal, after the ongoing war in Gaza has cast its dark shadow over my life and the lives of my family. Our lives were once filled with peace and stability before the onset of this catastrophe, but now, we find ourselves living in a situation described as nothing short of tragic.

My wife, Shurooq, our three children, and I are now homeless, without a source of income, and without hope for the future. My family and I have lost our businesses and our home due to the war, and we now have nothing left but the cold streets and troubled hearts.

My children are suffering greatly as a result of these horrific events. They have lost the security and stability they once enjoyed and are now facing new health and psychological challenges that threaten their lives. As a father and husband, I feel powerless in my ability to provide adequate protection and care for them.

My child, who is a year and a half old, is experiencing hardships far beyond his tender age. Since the war broke out, we had to flee our home and seek refuge in a tent in a displacement camp. My child lives in extremely difficult conditions, deprived of safety and stability. The tent does not provide adequate protection from harsh weather, and food and medicine are scarce. My child suffers from malnutrition and illness, lacking basic healthcare. He cannot play or grow in a healthy and suitable environment. My only dream is to see him grow up in a safe place full of opportunities

In the face of difficult circumstances, Samer Abu Ras and his family find themselves facing serious challenges in their daily lives. They reside in a modest tent lacking comfort and security, suffering from a shortage of clean water and food, and encountering difficulties in accessing necessary healthcare. Despite these challenges, they continue to express hope and resilience in confronting adversity, holding onto hope for a better tomorrow and a return to a more stable and secure life.

Hello, my name is Wafa. My family and I are from Gaza, and we have experienced unimaginable suffering since the war began. We have been displaced five times, losing everything—our home, belongings, and even our sense of security.

The most devastating loss was my father, who passed away on 30/11/2024 🕊️💔. He was the heart of our family, a man full of love and strength. He was battling sarcoma, a painful and aggressive type of cancer. Before the war, he was receiving chemotherapy, but as the war escalated, access to medical care became impossible. We couldn’t even provide him with basic pain relief or nutritious food.

We watched helplessly as his health deteriorated day by day under inhumane conditions. Losing him has left us broken and devastated.

Now, I live with my mother, my three sisters—Nadeen, Walaa, and Liqaa—and my two brothers, Mohamed and Ali, in a tent on our own. We faced all the challenges imposed by the war regime in Gaza, but now we need your help to escape from... This tragedy, Fatima Iman and Nour are the pulse of my heart and the light of my life.

Since the beginning of the last war in Gaza, my home has been partially destroyed, forcing us to move. We had to move more than ten times to find safety. During this harrowing journey, we faced extreme hunger and malnutrition that almost claimed the lives of me and my children. In addition, we have been exposed to many serious infectious diseases and epidemics.

Unbearable hardships

I have to travel long distances just to get water, and stand in line for hours to get food. My mental health and the health of my children deteriorated due to the war. My children’s education was interrupted and they suffered from catastrophic hunger that almost claimed their lives.
