Wine Terroirs & Tales is an independent wine blog by Adrian Latimer, who has cherished wine, its stories, travels, and tastings for over 40 years. Born in '61, Adrian's journey with wine began unexpectedly during his student years. In 1991, he moved to France, a haven for wine enthusiasts, and later married Kathy, who had ties to the wine trade. Adrian's writings, primarily on travel and fly-fishing, took a turn towards his passion for wine upon his early retirement in 2020 from the insurance/oil sector. The blog is a reflection of his personal experiences, opinions, and tastes, aiming not to instruct or profit but to share his love for wine and offer readers a delightful experience.

Appreciation post for products of Catalan cuisine. There's four in this post: ratafia (sweet alcoholic drink), shrimp, mel i mató (sweet cottage cheese with honey) and wine.

St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, CA (No. 4)
St. Francis is a Certified Sustainable, family-owned Winery, and we have worked throughout our history to preserve Sonoma County’s natural resources. The state-of-the art Winery we built in 1999 includes a 457-kilowatt solar energy system, and we have been recognized for our work to conserve nearby creeks and waterways. Preserving Sonoma County for future generations is very much a part of who we are, what we do, and how we run our business.
Our Winery and stunning mission-style Tasting Room is in the heart of Sonoma Valley surrounded by estate vineyards. The bell tower houses a 1,000-pound bronze bell cast by the Marinelli Foundry in Italy. It chimes every hour and can be heard throughout the valley.

Sitges, Penedès, Catalonia. Vineyards in autumn.
These vineyards grow a special grape variety used to make malvasia, an aromatic sweet white wine typical from the city of Sitges.
According to legend, a Sitgetan man called Jofre brought the first vines of this variety from the Adriatic coast in the Middle Ages. He participated in the defence of Sicily under the orders of Roger de Llúria (c.1245-1305), and it was there where he first discovered how this drink was made by the friars in a Greek city-monastery called Malvasia, thought to be modern-day Monemvasia.
After centuries of cultivation in Sitges, nowadays malvasia is considered Sitges's most genuine product. It can only be purchased bottled in the town's wine cellars. The most renowned one is Sant Joan Baptista Hospital's cellar, which you can see in the photo.
