love your fallout series thing where you comment on the episodes as you watch them!
For me I am new to fallout and don't know alot of anything but i do know that the biggest enemy of any running machinery is dirt. So I never questioned the power armors being super shiny. It seems to be one of the most expensive things existing in the wasteland, so the brotherhood trying to keep it in good condition for as long as possible makes sense.
also i think it fits well in them being portrayed as this hyper military powerful force that sees themself as the literal knight in shining armor to the wasteland. As everyone is scrapping by on used goods, they run around in this super new looking power suits. It's like a status symbol/symbol of wealth that visibly puts them above everyone else in the wasteland.
But yeah, if that was different in the games I can see it being weird. And as you said the brotherhood was portrayed differently in earlier games and the shiny armor gives them a certain vibe that probably removes them even further from their roots.
loved hearing your thoughts on it all as someone who knows alot about the series! I hope the show keeps beinf fun to you. :3
Well thank you. Welcome to the fandom is fun and "makes to total sense." While that is true of machines in real life, but in the Fallout universe its knowledge. Or the lack thereof.
The BoS are descended from members of the military so they are the most knowledge about maintaining an using power armor. Aside from the Enclave who are descended from high ranking government officials and military top brass. The thing is that they very much try to keep to themselves and do their own thing.
Yeah over the course of the games the leadership of the BoS have slightly changed their direction. Although it seems that FO4, FO76 and now the show have drastically changed what the BoS was about.
Stay tuned for the other "reviews" then.

in this day and age of videogames i cant understand why we still do preorders, mostly for AAA releases. like there is never a real guarantee of quality in any sense. game companies release broken trash and garbage preorder exclusives that range from shitty little cosmetics to straight up false advertising (remember the fo76 shit?) and no matter how excited you are for a game, does it really hurt to wait to fork over your money once you can get some sense of its quality through reviewers and/or gameplay footage that hasnt been custom tailored by the company to sell you on it? digital downloads means that physical copies dont tend to be in super high demand anymore, which does suck in a sense but it means that availability typically isnt a problem if you are one of those ppl who wants one, i just...i dont get it. why would you continue to promise game companies your dollar like that

None of this is to say Pokemon or the other series are in the right. Crunch and greed are bad, unfinished games are bad. The leeway's probably a matter of target demographics and expectations. It's kinda like how people will accept a mediocre steak from Walmart while being disappointed if a prestigious small butcher shop with rave reviews gives them the same thing, even tho Walmart is infinitely more rich n powerful than the small shop.
Both Cyberpunk2077 and Fallout76's audiences were primarily teens and adults. These people often buy the game for themselves, have less time to waste, and have more experience and thus higher standards and expected for their video games.
CDPR was also hyped through the gaddamn roof because their Witcher work was exceptional and CP2077 had a lengthy dev time. They had a reputation for premium rpg content and not screwing over their customers.
Pokemon, despite the money behind it, has just never been a premium-quality cutting-edge experience. It never built its brand upon being special for anything other than Being Pokemon. Its audience includes children who won't judge a game like adults do, and adults who have years if not a decade-plus of the same middling content, especially as of gen 8.
Also worth noting that while the games have massive technical problems, they don't fundamentally break the core gameplay loop. The games are ugly in a lot of ways, but playable. Frequent crashes, bugged quests, and serious problems with the battle/catch/explore mechanics aren't so frequent that they're a near-universal experience, and I've yet to have any of those happen.
And I'll admit, even as someone deeply dissatisfied with the series for the last 6 years, I do find the core gameplay to be actually fun. The exploration combined with this time-tested basic pokemon formula of raising a bunch of weird pets and winning fights works really well. Contrast that with launch FO76, which gutted what little rpg elements FO still had by removing NPCs and story, and just left everyone in an irradiated MMO sandbox. The fact that Scarlet/Violet are largely low-stakes fantasy exploration and turn-based combat, as opposed to real-time action in a more realistic world, probably makes framerate and performance problems feel less egregious or actively detrimental to your ability to succeed in the game.
Pokemon also has the benefit of not having a bunch of other controversies and drama caused by the studio's behavior outside of game content or pushy microtransactions, at least in the mainline.
All that's to say: Pokemon formula is still functional despite the tech issues, people love pokemon formula, and expectations were not through the roof for a number of reasons so the failures don't appear as serious. I don't especially like that GF can get away with mediocrity but that's how it is.
honestly, with all due respect to everyone, i do NOT think the fact that pokemon scarlet violet’s record breaking sales in 3 days could be solved if people “just pirated”. it’s a worldview as limited as saying “they should just unionize” to propose a solution for game freak’s short game development window

i'm at like level 70 and getting into the far eastern part of the fo76 map, running out of quests but my ass is getting kicked when i do the quests i have but i don't wanna use power armor :/
have you considered playing a carry weight/mercantile/cryptid character and obviating the entire game with your embarrassment of supplies and contraband equipment (if pc)
76's difficulty is about meatwalling you to waste your time & everything you do passively makes you permanently slightly stronger. take a break to build, review some holotapes and notes, and learn some territory. figure out a grind that works for you and invest in a full perk + equip loadout for carry weight, or some other specialization. if that isn't remotely appealing to you, 76 might not have a lot to offer you. i don't expect most people would get a lot out of it. frankly the endgame userbase is mostly bad boring people because it is a bad boring game.
i'm almost 250 and i just did the nuka shine quest. the quests are broadly complete bullshit honestly. learn how to get productively lost for hours and the story content will gradually come to you. i had to establish my own insufferably meta fanon cosmology to get anything out of it. my advice if you actually want to get nourishment out of 76 is to move towards treating the game as a true sandbox environment, which is an incredibly time-intensive proposition.

So the state blocks quilt/wall hanging is done except for binding. I don't quite have enough in my stash of what I want. Back to the store. Store is out. Politely ask about available stock. Turns out nearest stock is *two states away*.
Well then.
So I ordered 12x the amt I needed because that should last me for years, and idk when/if it will be available locally again.
Next up: made cherry-dark chocolate ice cream for next weekend.
Next next: Yes I saw about TOW2 and also the new stuff coming up in FO76. Leaving Appalachia? Wow. If there's a civil war in the BoS then I might actually do that story arc, if only else to rub Knight Shin's nose in it while yelling "EAT IT, BOY! EAT IT!" because the man is insufferable.
Time to do other stuff today like clean my room (... again; I have a bad habit of not putting stuff back right away and I end up here) and hit up the dailies in FO76 and write for 100daysofwriting and review next chapter of Bad Trip for tomorrow and write some postcards.

So, video games, right? What’s everyone been playing? Mostly I’ve been up to Fallout 76, which I love a lot more than the average review would suggest. I’m a big Bethesda-Fallout fan, so as long as they don’t change it drastically, I’m pretty sure to like whatever they give me. Exploring the wasteland is honestly very calming to me? I like to find all the little nooks and crannies, pick through the loot and read/listen to the messages the characters have left. Oh, and my favorite part about FO76 is probably the house-building, because I love sim-ish elements. My current house is so perfect that I don’t want to move it, even though it’s not in a logical location as I continue to level up. (It’s not fancy, because I’m too cheap to get wallpapers, etc, but it’s built into a tree on a mountaintop and honestly I’d live there in real life, easy peasy. =D I’ll post a picture sometime.) I’m on PS4 as Eloarei if anyone ever wants to play. I’ll give you some presents that a nice high-level guy gifted me a hundred of.)

My fallout 76 beta thoughts
I played through the B.E.T.A for fallout 76 and enjoyed it greatly, that said I had my fears when I preorded the game. When I first got it I was thinking about how much I enjoyed the previous fallout games and wanted to get the game in the hopes of getting some preorder gift, my wishes for these gifts were forgotten when I learned that those who preorded the game would be able to participate in the beta for the game a few weeks before release, this made me super excited for the rest of the week, for the rest of the time I made sure to skip all of the ingame spoilers that i could, luckily I did not come across much aside from the rare snippet whilst I did not search for it, I did however plan out a build, in this planning stage I ended up with an agility/strength build, my original plan was to have a pistol wielding gunslinger but my plans quickly changed to a one handed melee build. I wanted to have a fists only build but the lack of my awareness of fisting weapons prevented me from traveling down that route, that was until I found a pair of knuckles off the dead bodies inside of a lighthouse, still I continued on investing in my current melee build keeping my fisting ideas in store.
How I traveled:
Wielding only a combat knife and a 10mm I explored the wasteland, I traveled off the beaten path my fellow vault dwellers traveled, there I found workshops and even a suit of power armor hiding within a barn, without any real use for the power armor I took its fusion core and traveled on, in total I found three workshops in the north, east and west directions from the vault, each workshop costed only 25 caps to control.
My experience with others:
In general my experiences with other players has been enjoyable, though I did notice a lack of other players using mics. Throughout my travels I was only interacted by one player, he shot at me while I was cutting down the scorched with a combat knife, I had thought he was shooting at the scorched trying to help me but missed them and hit me instead so I finished off the scorched and noticed that even after the scorched were slain he was still shooting at me with a little pipe gun. Accepting his challenge I ran at him and stabbed him, in response he took out his shotgun, he could not get a single round off before I stabbed him to death.
In total my complaints are:
1. The server crashed on me occasionally.
2. I would randomly get hit by an invisible spirit both inside and outside of combat, most commonly right after combat.
3. Melee builds seem very op.
4. I felt the small limit of players per server limits the enjoyment that could be had from how large the map is.
5. I felt the game forced the player to go at a slow pace to really enjoy the games environment, this is especially bad for the multiplayer aspect of the game where you have a group of people each doin their own thing and rushing everywhere.
6. There needs to be some sort of way to travel, not necessarily fast travel but because the map is so big some way to get from one side to the other would be nice, it would however promote faster gameplay and may be best utilized if there were factions or players fighting each other from bases.
7. As I just mentioned about factions, player owned factions or main game factions that effects the map in some way, think of it like fo4's factions where at the end the factions you chose controls the commonwealth.
8. The wasteland feels lonely, while I did not play with others I wanted to enjoy the world instead. What I'm hoping to see is some sort of companion, I'm hoping to see a return to the automatron DLC from fo4 where we can build our companions or gain a robotic friend that seem to be an abundance as remnants with nothing else do to but stand over a corpse telling it how much it hates camping.
9. I felt the game was too easy at times, the enemies didn't give me much sense of urgency to not get hit by them and I constantly came across supplies I needed to survive. Now this may just be my wish for a difficult experience like when I mod fo4 to extreme realism but even playing alone I didn't feel the need to even use a stimpak very often which ended up with me being loaded with them.
10. Someone teach the scorched how to shoot. I constantly found myself inside of a building with scorched outside shooting at the building rather than at me. As for a graphical glitch that was throughout my playthrough but i have yet to see it in other peoples plays are the scorched inability to actually hold their guns, too many times I've noticed their guns bugged in their hands with their fingers sticking through the gun itself.
Conclusion.
In total I truly do believe that the game still likes a solo playthrough, groups can be fun but will ultimately prove a hazard for other players. But do not let that disway anyone hoping to enjoy a nice fallout game where you can enjoy the wasteland, in fact it may even prove beneficial for the play if you think of other players like the mercenaries from Assassins Creed Odyssey but with more interaction and even more possible outcomes. From a role players perspective I see this as a great opportunity since you will have a more varied audience, the lack of npc's however may prove annoying for any rp not including other players, unless you want to play a survival playthrough where you travel through the wasteland trying to survive off the land and living from your camp. I do feel the game is a little easy and that the enemies dont exactly give me this sense of urgancy that the previous games gave me. I loved playing the beta and I want to play more but at the moment the game will get repetitive without long term goals or a reason to come back to a location that wont get repetitive due to events. I am happy to say that my fear may not last long since the developers are constantly listening to the fanbase and trying to make improvements, as evidence listen to the people that played both at the greenbriar and the beta, many of whom are saying the game is running much more smoothly and I predict that after each beta the game will get more smooth and cleaner and way more playable, within a year of release it may not even look like the beta anymore, just like elder scrolls online the game may get updated until it doesnt even feel like the same game. I remain hopeful of the games future and wishing to continue playing.
Should you buy it?
When the game releases the bugs seen during the beta will be in the past, however the main game itself will not have changed very much. That said it will likely be changed after a few months of release, so should you buy it as soon as possible? No, the game is too early in development and playing it on day one may easily burn you out and prevent you from playing the game when it gets to the height of possibility.

Not really that impressed with the dialogue trees being implemented again in FO76 because it’s not really a plot driven game or anything. Battle royale sounds really dumb. And I know people are pumped for this update but I really hope people don’t run off and buy it ASAP because it’s still a buggy mess. At least wait for reviews to come out with a verdict before you jump on it.

Fallout 76: A Week Review
I’ve had Fallout 76 for about a week now, and thought I’d write up a review of about 10 hours into gameplay. Reading reviews has resulted in four main concerns people usually have, and I thought I’d address them with my own personal experience.
1. Computer Compatibility
Can my computer run Fallout 76? I have an Asus Laptop that I bought in 2016, and this was probably my biggest concern coming out of the gate. To my surprise, my game runs very well, and exceeded all of my expectations. I can’t play on high graphics/ textures, because it lags to the point of being unplayable, but I didn’t have that expectation going in, so I’m not disappointed. I haven’t had problems with textures loading in, or content not existing. All, and all, I’m pleased that my older computer can still run it
2. Server Compatibility
How are the servers? This is the biggest concern that I’ve been reading about. Servers that have been dropping people, lagging to the point of being unable to continue, and things not loading in properly. I’ve started up the game about a dozen times. Of those dozen times, I’ve gotten dropped twice, and once was because my internet connection went out at the time. I’ve had one issue of lagging where I was taking damage, but unable to deal it out, which meant I died pretty quickly; but that was solved with a reset. I don’t think servers are as big as a problem as people make them out to be, as they seem pretty stable regardless of how you’re playing, or how many people in your server. Which leads me to number three.
3. Online PVP Aspects
I don’t like online multiplayer games. I hate them. The idea of someone strolling along, and destroying everything you’ve worked for just for the sake of destroying it, isn’t the most inviting gaming experience. So, naturally, I was worried about how FO76 would play out with this. My first interaction was with a level 44 player in Flatwoods. He waved, and proceeded to give me a Super Stimpak, and some cooked Mirelurk meat. Then he left, and that was the end of our interaction. My second was with another guy who just wanted to trade, and we both went our separate ways. My third, fourth, fifth, were players who gave me a wave, and we completed events together. People aren’t naturally assholes. There are a very few players who are just out to be assholes. Don’t worry about your CAMP, or getting sniped from miles away, the vast majority of people just want to chill out and explore.
4. Story Content
I’ve heard the vocal few complaining about the lack of story content in Fallout 76. Unpopular opinion, but I personally think that people who complain about that lack imagination. I’m ten hours into this game, and I’ve just reached Morgantown. For those who haven’t played, Morgantown still has you doing tutorial missions for the main quest line. The reason it’s taken me so long to get there? There’s so much to see! There’s so many places to explore, and stories to find, that it seems impossible to whiz through. Fallout 76 wants you to create your own story. It doesn’t want to hand you quest after quest that walks you through every single location, pointing out points of interest like you’re on a guided tour. They want you to explore. And while some people might not consider that story content, the game still offers you so many opportunities to do something.
