(Not such a) Bad Idea
Tumblr media
Larissa Weems X reader-
Songfic based on bad idea by girl in red, loosely. Reader is a final year university student and often frequents the Weathervane for their impeccable coffee (it’s just for the free Wi-Fi). Larissa is the principal of Nevermore academy and often frequents the Weathervane for their impeccable coffee (it’s just for the peace and quiet).
Or
Two dumb gays in love and Marilyn meddles.
Huge thank you to @h-doodles who majorly helped me with the plotline with this one. Honestly cannot thank you enough, I hope it meets your expectations :) <3
-
It was a typical Thursday Morning for you, early enough for the Weathervane to be open, which meant you could claim a booth and work on your thesis statement. Typically, the weathervane was a quite café but for some reason, today it was packed and there was no seating available elsewhere.
Just as you had frequented the café, there was also an extremely tall lady, with ocean blue eyes and always wearing pristine clothing. You would often catch her eyes and she would smile at you, which would make you feel like you were going to faint. God, to see that smile in the morning would give you enough motivation to get through the day, and you would yearn for it long after she was gone.
Almost as if your thoughts had summoned her, in she stepped, noticing how busy it was and she approached the counter, giving her order. Her order is placed in front of her, and you notice her eyes wander around the café and eventually her eyes lock with yours.
You do your best to hide the fact you were staring by turning your focus onto your laptop, a flush growing on your cheeks.
“Hello.” You hear a British accent say and you look up, almost fainting because the woman who you had just been staring at has approached you. Oh my god, she’s British. “Is there any chance I could share a booth with you? Its quite busy in here today.”
“Oh- Yeah, of course, I don’t mind!” You say, probably too enthaustically, but she doesn’t comment and instead you decide to offer up your name “I’m Y/N.” You smile.
The woman smiles wider at you, “Larissa.” She returns, and you feel your face flush. Oh my god, even her name is ethereal. You grin as you turn back and begin to type away.
Moment’s pass, before your eyes raise to see Larissa watching you curiously, and you feel yourself blushing. Larissa takes a sip of her drink before nodding her head to your laptop.
“What are you working on?” Larissa enquires, as her eyes crinkle with her smile. You nearly stop breathing at the realization that she’s speaking to you.
“Me? Oh, uhm, nothing interesting, just my thesis statement for Uni.” You smile and Larissa rolls her eyes lightly with a smirk.
“Of course, it’s not interesting, otherwise you wouldn’t be staring at me every time I come in.” Larissa teases and you feel your ears grow hot, and your eyes grow wide in shock.
“Oh, sorry! I mean no offence!” You say urgently, realizing you’re probably embarrassing yourself even. You try to focus back on your laptop, hoping the floor will swallow you up. Larissa lightly pushes your laptop so its half closed.
“Oh, believe me, it’s quite the compliment actually.” She states with a smile before chuckling. “Gosh, its going to sound rather silly but sometimes, I hope to see you staring to figure out if I’ve made the right outfit choice.”
You’re certain if you blush anymore, you will faint. “Oh, I bet you’d still look good in a trash bag.” You manage to say before you can stop yourself and Larissa chuckles, and you smile yourself.
“Well, Y/N, thank you for that wonderful insight. I’m sure my wardrobe will thank you.” Larissa smiles before checking her watch. “I suppose it’s time for me to leave. Goodluck with your thesis, Y/N.”
Larissa stands to leave and begins to turn away and looks at you again, “You’ll be here tomorrow?” She asks and all you can do is nod.
-
Friday morning couldn’t have come quicker for you, and you excitedly sit down in your booth, jittering with excitement as you see Larissa enter. You lock eyes with her, and she smiles at you from across the café. You open your laptop and at least try to pretend that you are focused on something other than her.
Larissa grabs her order and sits opposite you in your booth, and you smile at each other.
“Morning.” You smile, looking up from your laptop and Larissa is wearing a sage green dress with a golden chain necklace, complete with a golden watch and you swear you can faint. “I suppose you didn’t feel like wearing a trash bag today, huh?” You joke, your face flushing.
Larissa chuckles lightly and she has you enchanted by the sound. She takes a sip from a drink as she raises her brow at you.
“Oh please, you’re too nice to me.” Larissa states and you take a sip of your own coffee before you close your laptop. Larissa looks at you questioningly, “Off for the day?”
“Oh, no. I’m gonna be here for a while but there’s no point in pretending anything else has my attention when you’re sitting in front of me.” You grin, you have no idea where the confidence has come from, but you decide that since Larissa has decided to sit with you for a second time, it’s the confidence you need.
Larissa chuckles again and smirks at you again. “Careful, you might convince me to never leave.”
You grin at her cheekily, you’re sure your cheeks are flushed but you decide to ignore and begin to speak, “you say that as if it’s a bad thing. Perhaps I don’t want you to.” You say, and Larissa smiles before taking another sip.
“You never told me what your thesis was on.” She states and shuffles somewhat close to you, and you look down at your laptop before looking back up at her.
“Like I said yesterday, nothing too interesting. But I’m currently writing about Rene Descartes influence on modern philosophy, seeing as some consider him the father of modern philosophy.” You say and roll your eyes.
“Ah, and this does not interest you?” Larissa questions, her hands finding themselves onto the table.
“It’s not so much that it doesn't interest me, but I am not too keen on modern philosophies, I know, I know, they paved the way for society today, especially with the way he connected geometry and Algebra, but I suppose at heart, I’m more of an ancient Greek gal.” You say with a light grin, and Larissa looks intently at you, a light smile on her lips. “Sorry, I’m boring you.” You say, and Larissa’s hand reaches out to touch your arm.
“No, I find it quite refreshing how passionate you are.” Larissa states and her hand doesn’t move from your arm, you grin up at her.
“Soo, what about you? What do you do?” You ask and Larissa smiles a tight smile before looking up at you.
“I’m the principal of Nevermore academy.” She says proudly and she watches as your eyebrows furrow together, and she removes her hand from your arm, anticipating some sort of backlash.
“Nevermore? I don’t think I’ve—Oh! Nevermore, the academy for outcasts? Wait, sorry, is outcast the right word? I dunno if I got that right, erm but yeah, I’m sorry if that’s offensive! But also, principal? That’s awesome!” You say, and watch as Larissa breathes a sigh of relief, and you eye her curiously.
“Yes, outcast is the correct term. Although, some would not consider it ‘awesome’, but I suppose that’s their problem.” Larissa states and you look at her.
“Some people just like hating people.” You state, “Like how some people hate me cause I’m gay, but I think that sort of hate just makes you more accepting. But you being the principal of Nevermore academy is awesome.” You smile comfortingly, as you place your hand hesitantly onto Larissa’s.
Larissa checks her watch and frowns before looking at you. “I’m sorry, darling but its time for me to go back to the academy.” Larissa says before standing, “May I see your phone?” She asks and you nod, handing her your unlocked phone, she types in something before handing it back to you with a smile.
“You have my number now, message me if you get bored with your thesis. I hope I can help with the boredom.” Larissa smiles, hesitating slightly before placing a kiss on your cheek. She then begins to leave, looking over her shoulder before waving with a smile.
Okay, so she called you darling, and then kissed your cheek, and THEN gave you, her number. You can die happily now.
-
You submit your thesis statement draft Friday evening and take out your phone to find the contact Larissa saved. You click onto it and begin to type out a message.
‘I submitted my thesis draft.’ You type and send almost immediately, excited to finally have a reason to message Larissa.
You see the read icon almost immediately and then the typing icon. You stay on the chat and watch intently as the typing icon appears and disappears three times before the message comes through.
‘Does this mean I won’t see your beautiful face in the morning now?’ Is the response and you squeal, squeal. Squeal at the response. You begin to type out your response.
‘No, luckily for you, and unluckily for me, it was only the draft, I still have to submit the real thing ☹’ You type back ‘Plenty of boredom on my part still, and many mornings left in the weathervane.’
‘I suppose you’re not too busy to attend the Harvest festival with me next weekend?’ Is what Larissa says and you swear you feel as if you can faint, this woman is too much and you love it.
‘only if you promise I can win you a prize.’ You respond and there is a grin on your face.
-
The weekend and week pass quite quickly and eventually the day of the harvest festival arrives. You and Larissa had been in the Weathervane nearly every single morning, except for Sunday, because you decided to take the day to have a break, due to Larissa’s encouragement.
You are dressed already, after much changing and tweaking but you decided on your final outfit change that it would have to do otherwise you would drive yourself crazy.
You pull out your phone and begin to type out a message to Larissa ‘hey, did you want to meet out front?’
You place your shoes on and feel your phone vibrate in your pocket. You look to see Larissa has messaged ‘Nonsense, I’m outside yours, we can walk there together.’
Your stomach does butterflies as you almost sprint to your front door and open it and see Larissa standing there holding two cups of coffee. You shut your door as you look up at her and nearly choke on your own breath.
She’s wearing a light green dress that cuts off just off above her knee, hugging her in all the right places, and a matching jacket, her hair pinned up in its usual pristine style.
“Hi.” You say, nervously shuffling on your feet and Larissa smiles lightly before stepping closer and handing you your coffee before kissing you on your cheek.
“Hi, sweetheart.” She smiles, as she pulls back. Your cheeks feel hot, and you look up at her through your eyelashes. “You look absolutely divine.”
“Me?” You manage to say, before looking down at your feet, “What about you?” You ask.
Larissa’s hand cups underneath your chin, as she brings your eyes up to meet hers, a smirk playing on her lips “Where’s the shyness come from, darling? Did I make the right outfit choice?”
“You look like a goddess.” You say, and Larissa grins down at you. You move your eyes away from hers and Larissa lets go of your chin.
“A goddess? That’s a new one.” She smiles and takes your hand into hers as you begin to walk. “Is that from all your university study? Is that where you’ve learnt to sweet talk?”
“Oh, no, it’s not sweet talk if it’s the truth.” You smile shyly up at Larissa and she grins at you, before taking a sip of her own coffee.
-
It’s a few hours into the night and you and Larissa have been endlessly flirting, lingering touches, longing looks.
You manage to catch a glimpse of a game booth that would let you win prizes, and you grab Larissa’s hand and excitedly pull her towards it, and you look back at her with a grin.
“I believe I promised to win you a prize.” You say and Larissa’s arm wraps around your shoulder.
“You don’t have spend so much time trying to win me a prize, when you’re already here next to me.” Larissa states and you look at her, and bite your lip, trying to ignore the heat that flushed throughout your body.
“I promised.” You repeat and Larissa’s eyes soften as she lets you wander off to the stall. She watches as you speak to the man running the booth and laugh along with him, and you look back towards her with a grin. She’s standing a distance away from you, not wanting to approach, content in watching your excitement.
She watches as the man hands you the throwing balls and you throw the first one, knocking down nearly half off the cans down. She watches as you grin and look back towards her and Larissa cannot help the yearn in her heart.
Your second throw leaves only one can left, and she watches how your tongue sticks out in concentration on your last throw and Larissa grins as you get the last can on the last throw, you jump excitedly and the man running the booth allows you to pick out your prize.
You throw another glance towards Larissa with a smile as you pick out your prize, her prize, and hide it behind your back as you make your way back towards her.
“That was impressive.” Larissa grins and you look up at her with a huge smile. You move your hands from behind your back, showing two matching bear keychains.
“I picked this cause, even if I’m not with you, or you’re not with me, you’ll see it and be reminded of me.” You say and hold out one to her, keeping the other for yourself.
Larissa doesn’t say anything as she takes the keychain from your hand and stares at for a moment before her hand is on your cheek and crashing your lips together.
You respond to the kiss immediately, and Larissa’s hands find your hips before she pulls away and rests her forehead against yours.
“I think we should go back to yours.” She says, slightly out of breath and you nod in agreement, speechless over this woman.
-
When you wake the next morning, Larissa’s arms are wrapped around your waist and you smile softly before checking the time. 07:04am. You shuffle so you’re facing Larissa and she looks even more beautiful than you could have imagined. Her hair is undone from it’s usual style, laying bare into the pillows underneath it, her face is bare from any makeup and you’re close enough to see every freckle that has graced her face.
Larissa stirs slightly before opening her eyes and looking at you. “Morning, sweetheart.” She says, her voice laced in sleep. Her hand reaches up to your cheek and she places a light kiss to your lips. “Do you know what the time is?”
“Oh, its just passed 7.” You say, leaning into Larissa’s touch. Larissa’s eyes widen in shock before she’s making her way out your bed quickly, speeding to pick up her clothes that are strewn about from the previous. “What’s wrong?”
“I have a meeting with the mayor at 8! Did you see where I put my phone?” She asks and you take it from the nightstand and hand it to her. “Thank you.”
There is a slight nervousness to her nature that you shrug off due to her being late, you get out of the bed and watch as she gets dressed quickly, amazed at how she can pull herself together so quickly.
“Where are you meeting him?” You ask Larissa, standing in front behind her as she uses your mirror to fix her hair into its usual style. She turns back to look at you, her hands pausing their movements.
“At a café in Burlington, I left my car at the academy, so I’ll have to get a taxi.” Larissa says, stepping closer to you. “I’ll message you.” She says, before kissing your cheek and leaving.
-
Days pass and you have yet to hear anything back from Larissa. You had left her a message, in which she had just read and not responded. You take the hint, no matter how much it hurts, and you do not attempt to message her.
It’s Wednesday morning and you’re sitting in your usual booth. You notice how Larissa hasn’t come in during the mornings anymore. You sigh lightly as you take out your flash drive and spare a glance to the bear keychain you had attached to it.
A shadow darkens your laptop and you feel hope swell in your chest, at the possibility of it being Larissa but as you see another figure, a lady in which you hadn’t seen before at this time of the morning, who had red hair and was wearing glasses, along with a baby blue cardigan over a summery dress. You smile lightly.
“Hi.” She says, almost nervously. “May I sit here?” She asks, and you look around the café and notice hoe the seating is unusually full. You nod and smile. “I’m Marilyn.”
“Y/N.” You return, with a shy smile. You try to focus on your work but notice the lady, Marilyn, staring at you. You bring your eyes up to meet hers and she smiles softly.
“What are you working on, Y/N?” Marilyn asks and you look at your laptop. Déjà vu from the first time you and Larissa spoke. You frown lightly and look back towards her.
“Just my thesis for Uni.” You return, shortly. You don’t mean to come across as rude but you know that the last time you had been nice to someone sitting with you at the booth, you had a one night stand, and she avoided you since.
Yet, your heart still yearned for. Marilyn’s eyebrows furrow together as she watches you together, throwing a glance at your bear keychain.
“I hope you don’t mind my saying so, but you seem quite upset.” Marilyn states and you bite the inside of your cheeks. “I mean, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to but since I’m just a stranger, it might be nice to talk about.” Marilyn shrugs lightly, taking a sip of her drink, and you notice it in a to go cup.
You sigh, contemplating and decide that it would be nice to talk about it. “I, uh, met someone. I thought we were getting along great, we went to the harvest festival together, she kissed me, and then we went back to mine together. I haven’t heard from her since, haven’t seen her since even though she usually comes here in the morning.” You admit, and Marilyn looks at you comfortingly.
“I have a friend, who’s in somewhat of a similar situation.” Marilyn states, “Well, not exactly the same, kind of the opposite, and she’s the avoider. But she did so for a reason.”
You close your laptop and look at Marilyn whose hands are resting on the table and Marilyn smiles softly, looking at you with warm eyes.
“What reason would that be?” You ask, taking a sip of your drink, before avoiding her eyes.
“Well, see the person she was seeing was quite a bit younger than her, and after they got together, she just felt insecure about her age, about the difference in the stages of their lives. I mean, my friend has her career and knows that she wants to stay in her job for the rest of her life, but she confessed to me that the person she was seeing hasn’t even finished studying yet. She’s scared that this person won’t wanna be with her once she realizes the difference.” Marilyn says and you watch her, your eyes feel as if they’re growing wet. You don’t say anything immediately, noticing the similarities.
“Well, has she asked the person she’s seeing? Cause, you know, the woman I was seeing was quite the bit older than me and that was never a problem for me.” You shrug before sighing again. “Guess she just wanted some fun. It was a bad idea.”
Marilyn nods along, listening to what you say before checking her phone for the time. “I’ve gotta go now, will you be here tomorrow?" She asks and you nod.
-
A week passes and you and Marilyn become quite close friends, often giving each other separate advice. It’s evening time for as you type away on your laptop, its nearing closing time but you have just one more argument to write before you can leave.
You hear the door to the café open and you look up, seeing Larissa enter. Almost immediately, her eyes are locking with yours and you look back at your laptop, saving the file and closing it up before you get up to leave.
You make it halfway to the exit before you hear your name being called. “Y/N!” Larissa says, taking long strides, and you look back towards her, moving back slightly as she stands in front of you.
“Oh, hi.” You say, before pulling out your phone, pretending to check the time. “I’ve got to go, but it was nice seeing you.” You say, with a fake smile.
You turn around and leave the café, making sure you do not glance back, yet you yearn to, to turn around and you hope that Larissa will call out your name, but your heart drops as you walk down the street, and she still hasn’t called out your name.
You feel used. You feel sad and used. Did what you have mean nothing to you?
Unbeknownst to you, Larissa watches you leave, her hands gripping onto the keychain you had won for her, her cheeks growing wet as she realizes how much she has hurt you.
-
The weekend arrives and Marilyn invites you out to a bar, just for a friendly drink she had said. You enter the bar, which lighting is low and you notice Marilyn is at the bar, grabbing drinks and you approach her with a small grin.
“Hi, Marilyn.” You smile and Marilyn grins at you, looking up at you from over her glasses. You notice her taking two drinks from the bartender and thanking him, you furrow your eyebrows at her in confusion as Marilyn smiles.
“Hi, Y/N. I hope you don’t mind, but I invited another one of my friends.” Marilyn smirks, and hands you one of the drinks she has ordered. It’s a glass of red wine and you smile at her taking a sip.
“That’s fine, any friend of yours is a friend of mine.” You smile, and Marilyn grins as she leads you to a table, your eyes are more focused on the bar, and you almost bump into Marilyn as she stops, grinning like a fool as she looks at you.
You move your eyes to the table and to your absolute surprise, Larissa is sitting there is a low-cut dress and her usual golden chain. She stands once she sees you. “Y/N.” She says and you look at her.
“Hi, Larissa.” You say, slightly tense, and Marilyn places her drink on the table. She shuffles slightly before speaking.
“I see you two have already met, which is great because I need the bathroom.” She grins and she rushes away.
“Wait, Marilyn!” You call after her, and she ignores you, as she walks through a crowd. You look back to Larissa and swallow. Jesus, even when you’re mad at her, she still has the ability to make you speechless. You frown as you connect the dots. “You’re the friend Marilyn was telling me about?” You ask, and Larissa steps closer to you. You don’t back away this time, and Larissa takes this a win.
“So that means, you are also the friend that Marilyn was telling me about.” Larissa says and her eyes soften. Her hands find yours slowly, in fear of you pulling away. You don’t and Larissa breathes a sigh of relief before speaking, “I never wanted to use you for fun, Y/N. I just—What I felt- what I feel- is very real and I was scared you’d think I was too old for you.”
You step closer to Larissa, looking up at her through your eyelashes. “I never would have thought that.” You say softly, and Larissa removes her hands from yours, placing them onto your hips. “I was, I am, falling for you, Larissa. You hurt me.” You say, and your cheeks grow hot as Larissa’s grip on you tightens.
“I am sorry, sweetheart. It was never my intention. But after I left yours in a hurry, I thought, I thought, you wouldn’t want to see me because of the workload I have, and I though you might’ve wanted more excitement.” Larissa says, her face coming closer to yours, “But, I have to admit that I am falling- No, I am in love with you, I’m in love with the excitement that radiates from you, the shyness that have when you see me, the passion you have for university, and the I love you.” Larissa confesses, her breath tickiling your lips.
You breath hitches as you close your eyes, before opening them again to see Larissa’s ocean blue eyes staring into your soul. “I’m in love with you too. I love hoe passionate you are about your career, I love how much you care about your students, I love the way you always make me feel so nervous.” You say and Larissa brings your lips together, in a soft, caring, loving, passionate kiss.
You eventually pull away and rest your foreheads together. In the distance you hear Marilyn yell. You both look over towards her as she’s grinning madly before she shouts, “I did it!”
You and Larissa look at each other before giggling.

THIS WAS SO FUCKING ADORABLE!!!!
Hi! I noticed you’re request are now open. I was wondering if you can write more for shallow waters? Maybe how things have been since tua has been born? If not I’d totally understand! And if so thank you in advance! :)
family of thieves
Tumblr media
pairing: jake sully x fem!na'vi!reader
warnings: family stuff! cuteness hehe
summary: in which the older sully kids like stealing tua from right under your nose
word count: 1.4k
author's note: this is a short and sweet little one shot and yes it is set in the shallow universe lol. i just thought i'd give y'all something sweet after that last one hehe...takes place after shallow waters
Tumblr media
Okay, you will admit it. You made a pretty adorable baby. The cutest little thing in the world and you loved her with all of your heart.
And so did the rest of the Sullys.
The first few months Tua was always at your side or with Jake. Oftentimes you felt Jake was always hogging the girl but he teased you and said he was just her favorite. He was totally wrong but that was beside the point.
Once Tua became a toddler, that’s when a lot of odd occurrences began to happen.
The first time it happened you were in absolute panic. You had come back to the family tent to find it empty. You guessed that everyone was out in the waters as usual. But it wasn’t supposed to be empty.
“Tua?” You called, heart dropping in your chest when you saw that the toddler you had left for only a few seconds wasn’t there anymore. “Tua!”
Dropping everything, you rushed around the village, heart practically ready to tear itself out of your chest. When you got to the beach, you spotted Jake and Neytiri riding on his ilu further out in the waters.
“Jake! Neytiri!” You called from the beach, eyes still searching your surroundings in a panic. The two hadn’t heard you, irritatingly you shouted louder, this time in Na’vi. “AAAH! I AM CALLING TO YOU, JAKE AND NEYTIRI!”
Neytiri turned her head first, brows furrowing together when she saw your anxious state, “Y/N? What is wrong?” She called back. That was when Jake looked over as well, frowning when he saw your worried face.
“Do you know where Tua is?” You called.
Before either of them could reply, Tsireya, who had been floating in the water nearby, suddenly perked up, “Oh! I just saw Neteyam with her! They should be that way.”
You gave her a quick thanks before rushing off in that direction with Jake and Neytiri still calling after you.
Further down the beach and near a bunch of rocks, you spotted Neteyam first. He was sitting on one of the taller rocks, talking to himself it seemed and pointing out toward the ocean. But when you got closer, Tua, your unbothered daughter, was sitting between his legs and giggling as if she were having the time of her life.
Neteyam spotted you as you got closer, He grinned and waved, “Sa’nok! I was just showing Tua the little fishies! Plus, I think she really wants to meet a Tulkun now after I told her a mighty stories about them.”
You placed your hand on your heart, feeling uttered relief and slight exasperation. “Neteyam, boy, you almost gave me—what is it your father says?—a heart attack! I thought I lost Tua!”
The boy looked confused for a few seconds before he realized what you had meant and started grinning sheepishly, “Oh right, sorry.  It was Tua’s fault anyway! She was looking at me with those big eyes! I couldn’t say no to that!”
Despite your previous freak out, you couldn’t find yourself staying mad at Neteyam. After all, he was practically your first baby too, even though you didn’t give birth to him yourself. Plus, Tua looked to be having a grand time with her older brother. The sight itself calms you down and allows you to smile gently.
Carefully you climbed up onto the rock with them. Tua reached for you and you took her in your arms, “Next time tell me you’re taking her for the day.” You poked his head, “I might as well have raged throughout the village to find her.”
Neteyam chuckled sheepishly, “Sorry, Sa’nok. I won’t scare you like that again. Promise.”
You smiled as Tua tugged gently at your hair before giving him a quick kiss on his forehead. Just as you slid off the rock, both Jake and Neytiri arrived on the ilu, both looking confused and worried.
“What happened? Why were you freaking out?” Jake was the first to ask, his eyes scanning you and Tua for any harm.
“Your son stole Tua while I wasn’t looking.” You sighed. “All is fine, crisis averted.”
Jake visibly calmed down while Neytiri tsked at her son, “Neteyam.”
“Sorry, mother.” The boy raised his hands.
You thought that that would be the one and only time that would happen. But for some odd reason, it kept happening.
The second time, you had turned away for a few seconds to fix her food. Before then she had been sitting and playing with her tail. But when you turned back to feed her, she was gone. This time you didn’t freak out, you were just confused. She had been right there, how could she have crawled away that fast?
Neytiri was in the tent with you, cooking some of the fish they got for their meal for the night.
“Tiri’.”
“Mmm?”
“Where’s Tua?”
Neytiri looked up from what she was doing, looking around as well. “Was she not just here?”
“Yes, she was!” You got up and left the tent, Neytiri not too far behind you. “Tua! Tua!” You tried not to be too loud as the night was settling in and you knew most of the villagers were going to bed soon. “Tua! Tua! Tua—Kiri?”
You had stumbled upon the teenage girl, not too far away from your tent, to find her in the water, holding Tua with her, surrounded by glowing fish.
Tua’s big eyes were fixated on the fishes as she tried reaching for them in Kiri’s grasp. Your shoulders sagged and relief flooded your chest.
Kiri looked up and smiled, “Hi, Y/N!”
Neytiri appeared next to you and chuckled when she saw Tua, “Kiri, dinner is almost ready. It’s time to get out of the water.”
“Aw, Mom, we were just about to have a little fun.” The girl grinned.
“Yes, and Tua was about to eat her own dinner just now.” You pointed out before grabbing Tua from Kiri as the latter hoisted herself out of the water. “I swear you children just want me to have a heart attack.”
“I was going to bring her back.” Kiri pouted as they began walking back to their shared tent. “But she really liked the fish.”
Tua giggled when Neytiri tickled her cheek. You smile gently at Kiri, “I understand you want to spend time with your new sister, but at least let her fill up her stomach first before you go taking her on your little adventures, please.”
Kiri nodded, resting her head on your shoulder, “Yes, Mom, I will. Promise.”
Apparently, you had to tell all of the children this.
It happened again a few days later. This time you had tried to put Tua down for a nap. Only as soon as you took your eyes off of her—really you should’ve learned by this point—Tua was gone.
You didn’t freak out this time, you only sighed. Jake entered and saw your face. He placed down his equipment and cupped your face to give you a kiss.
“What’s wrong, princess?”
“One of our kids took Tua again.”
The amusement was not missed on his face as he gave you another kiss, “Well, I did just see her with Lo’ak and Tsireya. Might wanna start there.”
You hug him close, burying your face into his neck. “Why do they keep doing this?”
Jake chuckled, gently squeezing the back of your neck, “You made her too adorable, baby. She takes after you.”
Just as you were about to pull away from the comfort of your husband’s arms, Lo’ak came into the tent with Tua sitting on his shoulders.
“She wanted you so I brought her back.” Lo’ak said, taking her off his shoulders.
“Where did you take her?” You asked when Tua reached for you.
Lo’ak glanced toward Jake and shrugged, “We were with Payakan—but we were careful, I promise!”
Jake sighed and you chuckled, “Don’t worry, I believe you. Just tell me before…” At this point, was it even worth telling him to remind you? Really, none of the children were doing any harm. Just spending time with their newest sister, which was really sweet when you got over the initial panic.
You pulled him into your side, “Just be sure not to take her with you on any of your shenanigans, like you do with Tuk.”
“As long as she doesn’t try to tattle on me.” Lo’ak muttered. Jake gave him a look.
“Penis face!”
The three of you froze and all turned to look at Tua in your arms. At first you thought you were hearing things, perhaps you had gone insane in the current heat. Perhaps you imagined the whole thing—
“Penis face!!” Tua giggled, clapping her hands together.
Your eyes widened as you stared at your daughter. There was a snort from your son.
You glared at your husband, “Jake!”
“Lo’ak!”
“What—Dad literally said it earlier!”
“Out! Both of you!”

Fanart for this ACHINGLY GUT WRENCHING FIC! 'my body is young (but my mind is very old)' by green_tea_and_honey!!
Tumblr media
Chapter 20 made me ugly sob y'all, I m not kidding (My eyes were puffy for the whole day LMAO) I can't express in words how this fic touched my soul so I decided to make fanart. This illustration is based on this part of the fic 👇 (under the cut) It's not biblically accurate but I like it. (Spoilers ahead!)
“Okay,” he whispered to himself, clenching and unclenching his fists. “Okay. You’re okay. You’re okay.”
The wave of panic he expected never came, even as water sloshed in, soaking his waist and rising more rapidly than ever now that Bill had been swept away. He could smell it, as if he had never left; salt, sand, and a hint of oil from a nearby factory that he suspected had stained the beach with its constant dumping in the ocean.
“I’m okay,” Ford said, looking at his hands, and taking a long, slow breath. “I’m okay.”
You guys should go read the fic and give it lots of love. I guarantee you all it's worth it!
(also small note; I have a lot of fanart for fics otw, I'm just busy with college and deadlines so it might take a while lolz)

Bonten!Sanzu x Reader: Waking Up To You
♡ SFW, fem reader, wife!reader, mainly fluff but there's a suggestive part, soft!Sanzu ♡
note: I'm fixating on Bonten Sanzu rn, he's just so pretty 🌸
❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀❀
Imagine waking up and seeing Sanzu getting ready for work. His tie hanging loosely around his neck as he rushed back and forth looking for his keys. His eyes meet yours and he scolds himself for waking you up. He always tried to be as quiet as possible before he left, leaving gentle kisses on your head before he departed.
"Hey darling, how'd you sleep?"
You mumbled something along the lines of good, as you stretched and wriggled around underneath your fluffy blanket. You were always so cute in the morning (in his opinion anyway). The way the light from the window shined on your face made his heart skip a beat. Waking up next to you was the highlight of his morning and his entire day. His large, lanky figure hovered over you as he leaned down to kiss you goodbye. Sanzu always liked teasing you and it was no different in the morning when you were still sleepy. He planted soft kisses all over your face, purposely kissing everywhere except your lips.
"Haru stop teasing, I want a kiss on the lips!"
"Which ones?"
"Don't make me smack you."
"Okay okay, no need to threaten me."
He smirked at the annoyed look on your face before planting a long kiss on your lips. His hands cupped your face as your arms wrapped around him. He desperately wished he could stay home all day, wrapped in your loving embrace. But alas, he has a job to fulfill and he unfortunately can't just skip work to relax with his wife. He reluctantly pulled away from you and grabbed his keys off the nightstand.
"I'll see you sometime tonight, depending on what Mikey wants me to do. I love you princess~"
"I love you too Haru, come back to me in one piece 'kay?"
"I always do darling ♡"

Pregnancy sickness was no joke.
Since you found out you were pregnant, toilet and bed had become your best friends, if you weren't in bed you were throwing up and if you weren't throwing up you were in bed resting.
You were warned the first few months would be tough but not so tiring you couldn't even do the housework or even work.
Not that you had any other choice though. Jay wouldn’'t let you touch anything even if you wanted to.
In fact, since you told him you were going to have a baby, he became super protective of you, he wouldn't let you do anything, not even cook. Not that you minded, you never told him but you loved madly that protective side of him and you felt so lucky, because you knew your baby couldn't have a better father.
You couldn't wait to see them together, to see the love of your life become a father which was one of the things he wanted most. Since the good news had arrived, you immediately noticed a change in him.
Besides the overprotectiveness, he had gotten incredibly sweeter—which you didn't even think possible since he'd always been the sweetest, most thoughtful man you'd ever met—he was much more present. He was just happier.
You couldn't believe how a little bean could make him so content, happy, joyful. He was always so smiling, his beautiful green eyes sparkled so much that they alone could light up an entire galaxy. He was so beautiful it hurt, and with each passing day you loved him more and more, which you didn't even think possible.
He always tried to give you everything he could, he was always there for you, asking if you wanted some water, if you wanted something to eat, when you were throwing up he never left you alone, not even for a second, he was next to you holding your hair and he’d stroke your back, and how angry he’d get if you threw up in the middle of the night and didn't wake him up.
Every night before going to sleep he’d caress your non-existing baby bump, talking and whispering sweet things to the bean in you womb. He usually talked about his day, how much he already loved him/her and couldn't wait to hold him or her in his arms.
He had already started buying a huge amount of toys, cradles, strollers, even though the baby was several months away and how much you enjoyed seeing him built the cradle with that joy printed on his face which made him even more irresistible.
The more you looked at him, the more you didn't know what you had done to deserve such a beautiful person by your side, how could’ve you been lucky enough to give your child the best father that any person could even think of having.
That baby wasn't even fully formed yet and already had Jay wrapped around his finger.
“It'a okay baby I'm here, everything will be alright,” Jay kept whispering comforting words to you as he held your hair with one hand and stroked your back with the other as you threw up. What better way to start the day than having your face down the toilet?
God you hated this, you couldn't wait for this phase of constant vomiting and endless exhaustion to end. It was a nightmare.
“I'm so sorry my love. I wish I could take this from you.”
You shook your head slightly. “It's not your fault,” you muttered initially “Actually yes, it's mostly your fault.”
He laughed. “I'll take all the blame.”
You stood up and feeling dizzy, you leaned on Jay, who put his arm around your hips, holding you tightly to keep you from falling.
“Baby are you alright? Do you need to lay down?” he asked, his voice worried. It broke his heart to see you sick and so weak and, above all, not being able to do anything to help you.
“No, no, I just want to brush my teeth now,” you replied “Baby you will be late for work.”
“There's no way in hell I'll leave you right now, forget it, I'll be late I don't care, Voight will understand.”
“No baby he won't,” you chuckled, knowing your boss well.
“Like I said, I don't care about anything or anyone but you, you are my priority and I want to take care of you baby,” he retorted before leaving a kiss on the top of your head and from the tone of his voice you understood there was no room for you to argue.
After brushing your teeth, Jay went into the kitchen to make you something to eat for breakfast, and while you were changing into a shirt (obviously Jay's), you noticed something that made your heart leap with joy.
Your belly was finally starting to show.
It must’ve been the pregnancy hormones, but you started crying with happiness. It was an indescribable feeling seeing your baby growing inside of you. You didn't tear your eyes away from the mirror even for a second as your hands continued to caress your baby bump, the shirt lifted.
You stood in profile, facing the mirror and God, you would never have believed that just seeing your belly grow could give you such an indescribable emotion. When had it happened? When did it grow so much? Did it just grow overnight?
You were so distracted by looking at your belly in the mirror you didn't even notice Jay had run into your bedroom, worried stiff.
“Baby what the hell? Why you didn’t answer me? You scared the shit out of me, I thought you passed out or something.”
If you weren't so up in the clouds, you would’ve teased him about his overblown concern and the way he always thought the worst.
You turned to him. “Baby look!” you exclaimed, cheering like a little girl in a candy store.
Jay's gaze dropped to your belly and his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets as he too noticed your growing baby bump. His mouth dropped open in amazement and at the same time a huge smile formed on his face.
“Oh my god…” he sighed, not expecting to tear up at the sight of your belly growing. How could he not be moved though? His baby was in there growing, his child.
“God baby you're so fucking gorgeous,” he said before pulling you into a warm hug. He kissed you like if his life depended on it, his hands on your face. “I love you so, so, much I can't even explain it.”
“Jay….” you whispered, feeling him sniffle. You broke away from his embrace for a moment, noticing how he looked down and immediately tried to wipe away his tears. “Oh baby….”
He shook his head, but you placed your hands on his face and lifted his head, forcing him to look at you. With your thumbs, you wiped away his tears even though in the meantime you were the one who was crying.
“Don't cry please you're gonna make me cry too.”
He giggled through his tears, hugging you again before pulling away and showering you with kisses.
“I'm sorry baby I just… I just feel so lucky, so blessed to have you,” he said, then looked down at your still uncovered baby bump, “You both are my miracles. I honestly don’t what I did to deserve both of you.”
His hand began to caress your belly his eyes used on jt as you looked at him, your eyes scanning every inch of his face. Seeing him so happy filled your heart with so much joy you were almost afraid it was all just a beautiful dream.
“The mother of my children… Man, how did I get so lucky?” he marveled, but he seemed more talking to himself than you. It was as if he was trying to convince himself about what he had done in his life to deserve such happiness, but he really didn't know how to answer. Before you could say anything, he leaned in front of you, lowering himself to your belly.
He started planting kisses all over your belly, as his hands continued to caress you. Just the sight of this brought tears to his eyes and you had put a hand in front of your mouth to avoid bursting into tears like a fountain.
“Hi baby it's your dad again,” he whispered after giving a kiss on your baby bump, addressing the little bean inside you. “Hurry up and get out of here buddy, I really can’t wait to hold you… And also because I don't like seeing mommy feel so sick, I know it's not your fault but I just want her to always feel good,” he sniffed again and by then you had lost every ounce of self-control and became a total mess, “I love her so much baby and you can't understand how lucky you are to have a mom like her, and how lucky I am to have someone so wonderful and fantastic like her by my side, to spend the rest of my life with… And I love you madly too little bean, I haven't even seen you yet and you've already made me fall madly in love with you and if only you could look at me…” he chuckled “I'm a mess right now and I only saw the baby bump… I can’t even imagine what will happen when you’ll be here…”
As your hand stroked through his hair, your face was still streaked with tears and when Jay looked up at you and noticed you were crying, he stood up and placed his hands on your cheeks before wiping away your tears.
“I'm just…These damned hormones…” You let out a sob and you both laughed.
“Sorry love I didn't mean to make you cry,” he said, giving you kisses and kissing your tears away. It wasn't new to see you with tears in your eyes every time Jay spoke to the baby, so he had gotten used to it a bit even if it wasn't easy anyway, he hated that even a single tear wet your face.
“How about we go do some shopping for our baby?” Jay asked, giggling when he saw how your eyes lit up and how you stopped crying as soon as you heard the word shopping.
God what I’d do without you.

Nectar love | {HakuYuki}
Tumblr media
Theme: Floofy angst
Note: I have only written these two once it's practically illegal atp (and technically it was AkaYuki not HakuYuki...)
so i must write them more
×××
It was a mistake. A big one. But what would go wrong? What, when her health was improving so perfectly, when his strength was growing, when...
Then she was better, she was well. She could stand, she could run, she would do whatever she minded. For a moment then, Hakuji wondered. He wondered if, now that he had no use, they would throw him out. Tell him to go find a life for himself, by himself. He was nearing eighteen, after all.
Yet they welcomed him. They allowed him to stay, they encouraged it. They wanted him there.
Wanted. It was a strange word. To be wanted. Nobody had ever wanted Hakuji before. He was troublesome, he stole things and helped with nothing. He inflicted fights, was explosive, nobody had ever wanted that. But Koyuki, Keizo. They... wanted him.
So he stayed. He got engaged with her, with Koyuki. He loved her. He truly did, with all his being. He promised to be at her side always, to hold her hand, to bring her flowers. He would be there for her, he would protect her from anything that would try to hurt her, he would do anything for her.
His father's grave sat in a desolate graveyard. It was the only one in the town, people rarely cared much to bury the dead. They were tossed aside, left out to rot. But Hakuji had dug this one himself, used his own hands and lifted his father slowly into the hole, patting down the dirt. He had carved the rock he had set there painstakingly, had nestled it above his father's head, bringing flowers for him from time to time.
Sometimes he would bring the flowers he'd gotten for Koyuki, once they had wilted slightly. He didn't like putting things to waste, liked using everything until it was no more. So he put the flowers on his father's grave, letting them mix with the dirt, freshening it.
He brought fresh flowers this time. White and red, ceremonial colors of a wedding. He placed the bundle neatly on the grave, sitting down in front of it. He clasped his hands together in a quick prayer before speaking, telling his father of his upcoming marriage. He was ecstatic, feeling like he could finally, truly be content with his life. He felt like he could live, now. And be happy about it.
He rose as the sun set, intending to find more flowers for Koyuki. He found a field, picked the prettiest of the flowers. But even the most beautiful, most precious of the roses lost their petals and wilted eventually. Even angels like Koyuki died.
The flowers were no longer newly picked, but he still gave them to Koyuki. He had spent hours carving out hers and Keizo's grave markers, redoing them if he made even the slightest mistake. It was his fault, after all. It didn't matter how many times it took, this had to be perfect for them. It was the least he could've done.
He wound the flower's stems around each other, creating a crown. He placed it on top of the stone, on top of the grave which held his dear Koyuki's body, nestled in the earth. Tears blurred his vision and he couldn't think. Couldn't fathom what he had done wrong, why the world kept taking from him. If he was destined to be alone.
Rage overtook his grief as suddenly as one could express and he sought to find those who had taken the last two people he could ever care for. He fought blindly, letting the hot, red, boiling anger guide him. Until he stood admist the bodies of those who had wronged Koyuki, those who used jealousy as a justification, those who had killed the two most perfect people in the world. They were selfish people. But then again, so was Hakuji. Despite somehow avoiding the consequences of his own stupidity, he still cursed the world as if he was the one being hurt.
He alone should've been killed. He should've left Koyuki and Keizo alone, should've respected his father's wishes to not steal. All of it was his own fault. All of it.

Year 2160
“Doc!” Spider grinned happily when he spotted you.
The lab Norm and Max had set up was spacious enough for you to enter. And it was a little strange being the tallest one in the room for the first time. Though you were never really that short in your former body, it was still a startling contrast.
Spider ran up to you, awing at your new body, “Wow, you’re so tall!”
You grinned, kneeling down in front of him. Ruffling his hair, “And you’re so tiny, little Parrot.”
His little arms wrapped around your neck in a tiny hug, “I’m glad you’re okay. Mom says you weren’t feeling well and that I couldn’t see you.” When you pulled away slightly, he had a little pout on his lips, “I thought you left for good.”
Sometimes you forget how young the boy was. Had to be around Kiri’s age, maybe a little older. Still he was too young to truly understand what had happened and you were sure that Mary would prefer you not go into heavy detail. And you really didn’t want to burden him with it either.
“I was a little sick and it was very contagious.” You say instead, cupping his small face in your larger hands. “I didn’t want you to catch what I had. Now I’m better.”
Spider nodded like he understood, his wide eyes still taking in your face. “Now you’re one of them! When can I be like them?”
Norm entered the lab the same time Spider asked that and chuckled loudly, “Too little, kiddo. Gotta wait until you’re older.”
“So I have to be old?” Spider pouted. “Like you?”
You snorted while Norm rolled his eyes, “Keep up with the attitude and you won’t get one til’ your thirty!”
Spider stuck his tongue out at him as you laughed, placing the boy on your shoulders before following Norm to one of the computers. In some places you had to duck your head extra low, just so the boy’s head wouldn’t get caught by the ceiling.
When Norm brought up some images, swiping by to get to what he wanted, you spotted one of Hell’s Gate. Well, a blueprint of it at least. It looked different from the other one—the one you saw years ago while snooping through their computers after you first arrived on the planet. You had to have been sixteen or seventeen at the time when you saw the old blueprint outlines of Hell’s Gate.
Norm noticed your where your gaze settled and sighed, “Ever since the last one was destroyed—which I have to say was pretty fucking ballsey of you—those of us that stayed behind after the RDA left worked on rebuilding what was left. Keeping at least a few of the places alive and working so that we could live here comfortably.”
“You seemed to have made some progress.” You hummed, feeling Spider resting his arms and chin on top of your head.
Norm shrugged, “It's amazing how much time can go by when you’re hyper focused on this.” He waved his hand at the blueprint flippantly. “It’s not the same Hell’s Gate—don’t think we or the Na’vi would want it that way anyway—but it’s enough, ya know?” He then tilted his head, amusement twinkling in his eyes. “Though, you could’ve left a little more than scraps for us to work off of.”
“My bad.” You shrugged, both of you grinning.
Norm then pulled up a few schematics and other blueprints, this time of smaller projects. “Alrighty, what do you think, Doc?”
You spent the past twenty minutes giving your opinion on some of the projects. Then again, that was the whole reason as to why he asked you here in the first place. To get an engineer’s opinion on work. Like the good ol’ days. The only good days, really, besides Grace’s School. You liked being useful. Back when you first arrived at Pandora, you were trying everything you could to make yourself useful for the team. That was when you joined Grace in helping out with the school.
And when that had come to an unfortunate end, you buried yourself in studies, passing all your exams to become a prodigy engineer and a biologist in training.
Now, as a practically newborn Na’vi that was now starting your way as one of The People, you had to find new ways in this culture, in this clan, to be useful.
Max then arrived, standing awkwardly in the doorway, “Um, one of the warriors is here for you, Doc.”
You cringed when you realized the time, “Crap—I mean darn!” You placed Spider down as he stared up at you in confusion. “I forgot the time—you got it from here, Norm?”
He nodded, “Yeah, thanks for your help. You still got it, Doc.”
“Of course, I do.” You stood, adjusting the loincloth. “I may be in a different body but I’m still the best damn engineer on the planet.”
“Can I come with you?” Spider asked, following you as you walked toward the lab entrance. Even through the window you could see a warrior, standing further away and looking quite impatient.
You gave him a small smile, “Not this time, little Parrott. I got to start my training and I don’t know if they’d take too kindly to bringing you along on my first day.” Spider pouted and you ruffled his hair again, noticing bits of it were locking up. “Maybe next time, okay?”
“Okay.” He nodded, not hiding his disappointment.
When you got outside, the warrior’s eyes narrowed on you as you cautiously approached him. “You are late.”
“Only by a couple of minutes.” You weakly protest.
He huffed, adjusting his grip on his spear, “Come. We have much to do. We’ve already wasted enough time.”
Without waiting for a response, he leaped up onto a tree and began climbing. When he saw that you weren’t right behind him, he scowled down at you. “Skxawng! Climb!”
Rolling your eyes, you began climbing up after him. Like last time, you weren’t as fast compared to Neytiri. And it was the same with this nameless warrior. The only difference this time was that he didn’t have any particular patience for your slowness.
“Faster!” He ordered from his spot on a branch. Once you got up to the branch he was on, he glared, “If you plan to fight like one of us, you must learn to navigate this forest. It is your home now, you must know your own way without someone having to tell you.”
“Alright, I get it.” You mumbled. And really, you did. You had no energy to complain or protest against the attitude he was giving you. All you could do was follow him and learn. That’s all you could really offer at this point. “At least tell me your name.” You started as he started jumping from leaf to leaf. Wobbly but steadily, you followed after him. “You probably already know my name so don’t you think it’s fair?”
“Ezì.” He muttered, pointing his spear ahead. “Follow and watch.”
Carefully, you followed his instructions. Ezì moved elegantly and swiftly through the trees. Barely making a sound. You tried to mimic him, it wasn’t perfect but it was the best you could do. Ezì didn’t complain so it seemed like you were doing something right.
The both of you continued going like this, not stopping once. You figured if you asked for a break he’d probably snap your head off, so you refrained from doing so. At some point, you even managed to pass a Thanator without it noticing your presence. From the high ground, the creature looked a lot less intimidating.
Ezì watched your expression as you stared at it, “You’ve seen them before?”
After a few seconds, you realized he was speaking to you and nodded quickly, “Yeah, um, yeah I read about them and nearly got sniffed out by one a few days back.”
Ezì had a thoughtful expression, “You escaped one? You? Without having to kill it?”
“Yeah?”
“And you learned how by reading your….” He made a flippant gesture, “books?” You rolled your eyes, tail swaying behind you. “That is not how we will be doing things. You do not learn to be a warrior by reading. You learn by action.”
A sudden thrust from behind threw you off the branch. A yelp left your lips as you fell through a bunch of large leaves until you got to the ground, where the Thanator was.
You glared up, “Are you fucking kidding me, man?!”
From above, Ezì gave a smug grin as he squatted from his spot above, “You’ve escaped one before. Show me that you’re a warrior!” The Thanator’s eyes were already locked onto you, growling. “Show me you are worth my time and not another dreamwalker skxawng!”
You would’ve scowled at him, cussed him out, but the Thanator did not wait for you. When it pounced, you dashed away.
In your former body, you wouldn’t have been able to move as quickly as you were. Haphazardly jumping onto trees and plants, avoiding the Thanator’s claws and attempts at pouncing. Still, it didn't mean you were a pro at it, at least not as good as Neytiri or Ezì. But it was enough. Enough to keep you alive.
You just needed a way to lose it. Since your oh so generous teacher didn’t give you a weapon to defend yourself, losing it was the only option. As you kept going, you chanced a glance at the Thanator, finding it still on your tail and nearly grabbing it. You had to think fast.
Ahead of you was a vine hanging low from a taller tree. You jumped up and grabbed onto it, the Thanator missing you by inches at another attempt at pouncing toward you. Using what little upper body strength you had, you climbed up the vine as fast as you could, with the Thanator still growling at you from below.
One thing you knew for sure, well as for as your intellect on the subject went, they weren’t climbers. God you hoped they weren’t.
But of course, things couldn’t be easy for you.
When you got to a branch that was higher up than the one you had been on with Ezì, you spotted the Thanator making its way toward you by pouncing from tree to tree. And it was moving pretty fast too.
Damn those creatures!
Again, you leaped onto a nearby leaf, sliding down to another until you reached another branch. You looked up, stopping. The Thanator was nowhere in sight. And it was far too quiet.
For a moment, you wondered if Ezì was nearby, watching you with an annoying smug expression on his face. You thought about calling to him, but you weren’t going to be that reckless. That stupid.
This scenario, this training method, chillingly reminded you of your time training with Quaritch. He had taken it upon himself to teach you to fight when your father couldn’t. And you had asked him to, you were determined to be strong like him and your father. That part of you was long gone. But at least you learned one thing from him.
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Your ears twitched, your hands searched the ground beneath you until you found a long thick stick that if upon further inspection you’d see it used to be a smaller branch. But it was enough.
Leaves shuffling behind you gave you the go ahead turn around and swing as hard as you could.
And your swing had connected with something solid. The black blur of the Thanator toppled off from the hit and fell through the big leaves. You waited and waited until you heard a thud from below.
After waiting a few more seconds, you finally climbed down. Albeit clumsy, you managed to make it down without slipping or injuring yourself.
Ezì was already there, kneeling down next to the limb Thanator. He was mumbling something, words you could barely hear before he stabbed the creature with his spear. The creature went still after a few seconds and then Ezì stood to face you with an unreadable expression.
You tried not to think about the fact Quaritch would do the same thing. Examine you from head to toe, calculating without you knowing it until his words come. That’s what Ezì did with you. Out of habit, you waited for judgment.
Ezì finally spoke, “You’re quick on your feet. That could be useful.” He circled you, poked at the arm that held the branch. “Perhaps you’d do well with a spear…mmm, yes. A bow would slow you down…”
“Could’ve used one by the way.” You commented with a huff, dropping the branch to the ground. “The thing could’ve killed me.”
“But it didn’t.” Ezì smirked. “You are like Olo’eyktan. Adaptable. But a faster learner than he was.” You tried not to seem impressed by those words. You’d tease Jake about it later. “But you have a long way to go, tsmuke. Are you prepared for that?”
You shrugged, a determined look set on your face, “I wouldn't be here if I wasn’t.”
“That’s right.” Ezì smirked. “You wouldn’t be. Come. The sun is still high. We have much more to do.”
And you spent the entirety of the day scouring the forest with Ezì. He taught you all about the forest through minced words and a lot more action. Let’s just say, he liked putting you in dangerous situations. Though, he says it’s so you could adapt quicker and always be prepared to act without having to think about it.
Before dinner had arrived, you had spent the last of your day learning how to bond with a direhorse. For the first few hours you had failed but you were so determined to get it right, that you spent nearly half the entire day on it, despite Ezì telling you it didn’t have to be mastered in one day.
But eventually, you were able to stay on and bond with your new direhorse. Ezì, both impressed and reluctant, made you ride around to test if the bond was actually made. And you did. And it was amazing, almost relieving as you galloped through the forest with Ezì right next to you. This time he allowed himself to be impressed.
“Well done, tsmuke!” He grinned at you. “Well done!”
A smile broke out onto your face. Because you realized right then, what you felt was nothing close to your former training. It didn’t feel as gratifying as this. As proud. You always felt like you had to keep earning something, even if you were making progress. You still do, deep down, you knew that taming a direhorse wasn’t enough to be one of The People. You knew you had a lot more to do, a long way to go.
But it was looking pretty alright.
You came to dinner that night on your direhorse, surprising both Jake and Neytiri. But the kids' eyes widened in excitement.
“Horsy!” Kiri giggled excitedly as she ran toward you.
“Kiri.” Neytiri scolded but her face didn’t match the sternness she tried to muster. She followed after the child while looking up at you impressively, “Ezì is teaching you well then.”
You grinned as you picked up Kiri and sat her down in front of you on the direhorse, “Nah, I’m just a good student—get this Jake, he says I’m better than you, but I think we already knew that…”
“Ha. Ha.” Jake rolled his eyes, “I was not that bad.”
Neytiri grinned, “Ma’Jake, you were worse.” You laughed as you slowly rode around them, Kiri giggling in your arms. “You fell off so many times, face dirty every time. It took you two weeks to be able to tame yours.”
“Okay, okay, she doesn’t need to know all of that.” He sent Neytiri a look despite the smile he tried fighting back. “Besides, the flying is a lot better anyway.”
“I want to fly!” Kiri shouted, waving her arms around. Lo’ak began following behind the direhorse, asking for turns to get a ride.
“You will one day, baby girl.” Jake smiled fondly up at the two of you.
“My turn! My turn!” Lo’ak said to you as you pulled your direhorse to a stop.
You grinned down at the younger boy, “Alrighty.” You heaved him up and placed him down in front of you and Kiri in front of him. “Hold onto your sister.”
“Tell us more stories!” Neteyam said from next to his father.
Neytiri thought for a moment as you continued circling around them. “When I met your father—”
“God no!” Jake sighed, cringing as both you and Neytiri laughed. “We’ve already told the story, Neytiri. We fell in love and the end.”
You purse your lips, “I know I wasn’t there but I’m definitely sure it didn’t happen like that.”
“It did not.” Neytiri confirmed.
Soon Neytiri began telling the children about how Jake and her met. It sounded as if she had told the story many times before and so had Jake who chimed in every once in a while. Eventually, you got off your direhorse and set both Kiri and Lo’ak down as they listened to the story.
As Neytiri finished, Neteyam looked at you curiously. And in that adorable way where he tilted his head up at you as you stood behind Jake, yellow eyes looking at you curiously. “How did you meet, sempul?”
You hummed thoughtfully, the day you met him clear as day in your mind. “Well, unlike your mother, I did not want to kill him at first.”
“But you were definitely thinkin’ it.” Jake commented as you knelt down behind him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders.
“Oh I was.” You paused thoughtfully before continuing, “My sa’nok actually introduced us. In a way she set us up.” And so you told a lighter tale of how both you and Jake met. From when you were humans, from your time together in the Hallelujah Mountains, and up until the war with the Sky People which you told them cleverly that they’d have to wait until they were older to hear the rest of that part.
Eventually, after finally getting the children to eat and put to bed, Jake pulled you toward a random direction, “Jake, the hammock’s that way.”
He chuckled, “Ssh and follow me. I’m gonna show you somethin’.”
“Show me what?”
From behind you, Neytiri grinned, squeezing your shoulders, “The stars!”
Before you were about to say something dumb like “I already see the stars”, you soon realized what they meant when they led you to their two ikrans. Neytiri stepped away from you and got on her own. Jake led you to his, pulling you up to sit behind him.
The last time you had rode with him on his ikran was five years ago and one of the few good moments the two of you had shared together, after seeing each other in your avatars for the first time. Now you sit behind him again, wrapping your arms around your mate confidently while past you would’ve been hesitant and shy about it.
“You remember what to do?” He grinned at you over his shoulder.
“Shut up.” You pinched his waist.
With that, the ikrans took off. The wind whipping your face, caressing your ears and ruffling your hair. The forest below you and the sky…Neytiri was right.
They were taking you to see the stars.
As you flew, you leaned over a bit, holding onto Jake’s shoulders, to get a better look at his ikran. You never realized how beautiful yet vicious they were, how elegant they flew.
A grin tugged at your lips, “I have to get me one of these.”
Neytiri let out a hoot, smiling as she flew next to you and Jake.
You felt Jake’s hand tap your thigh, gaining your attention toward one of the moons. You had never seen it so clearly, even back when you rode with Jake for the first time, you had never seen anything as beautiful as the moon in the sky.
Your laugh was mixed with Neytiri’s excited shouts. And your eyes danced from the sky to meet Jake’s who looked back at you fondly, holding your hands tightly around his waist.
And in that moment, you hoped for more like it.
This peaceful life wasn’t so bad.
