I'm working on my season 5a/6 Marvey AU today and it took me an embarassing amount of time to realize that Rachel called her Dad first when Mike was arrested (before even telling Harvey) because her first impulse was to find a way to force Mike to turn on Harvey. The worst night of his life and she sics her angry father (who will now hate Mike forever) on him to manipulate him into betraying the one person he might love more than her.
She didn't just think about it for a second like she admits to Mike when they fight, it was her main goal from minute one. She only backs off when Mike freaks out when she vocalizes it. It's like she only realizes in that moment that he may actually leave her if she tries to push the issue.
I get that she resents how close Mike and Harvey are and she feels like Harvey put Mike in this position. But Mike's just as guilty as Harvey is, and she wouldn't have given Mike the time of day if Harvey hadn't brought him in. He's the only reason she has Mike at all, and her first impulse is to throw him under the bus regardless of what Mike wants.
It just makes Rachel's entire character feel icky. Like I know Gibbs tries to get her to make a deal to go against Harvey later in the season but the fact that it's literally her first impulse without Gibbs even making the offer is just... ick.

Elriels covering as “pro Elain” want to push the narrative that Elain is not coddled or babied in the Night Court and its just ???
Yes her sisters were also helped, were also cared for… Thats not what being coddled or babied is referring to here. Elain is always undermined and thought of as incapable of doing anything on her own, thats where the coddling comes from them.
Coddling =/= getting help
Even Rhys and Feyre have a conversation about this in a bonus chapter and you mean to say I’m reading her character wrong?
Also, just read in the same sneaky post that accepting the bond with Lucien is the “safest” option for her? It is literally the most world shattering decision she could make. Its the most permanent, the most radical, the most vulnerable road. After having lost so much, losing her own fiance, her father, her whole life, you mean to say that Elain simply accepting the bond or getting to know Lucien is not the MOST pressuring road she could take? It would literally only have two outcomes: either she isn’t compatible with him or he is her one true soulmate and she will be with him forever. This after all that she has been through is not the riskiest most permanent path she could take???
Kissing Azriel without rejecting her bond first is what’s easy. As that person said, Elain is intelligent and observant, she probably knew Azriel was once (probably still is) in love with Mor. He never hid that from people around him and she was around them enough times to tell. How would the kiss with Azriel be the “tough” decision, the thing that changes her life and love and future? She knew what she was doing here and she obviously risked a lot by almost kissing him but it screams to me how she was in need to get a grasp on her own life again, on her own decisions. I respect that, but there were no actual stakes in kissing him, not the way there would if she wanted to try and kiss Lucien.
No I don’t think Elain is infantile. No I don’t believe she’s not capable of doing her own thing. No I don’t believe she can’t make decisions for herself because YES she is canonically the one sister that had the opportunity to pick and choose what her life was supposed to be like until being made fae and now having a mate, but nonetheless is still having all choices laid out for her to take.
Yes I see the way she is treated in the NC, as nothing more than a nice company to Feyre, as someone too pure to be stained by darkness, as someone who is trying to fit into the court but is forcing it, as a lap dog, as someone who cannot be exposed to things she WANTS to do for the sake of protection.
Sounds a lot like the way Feyre was coddled in the Spring Court, albeit in a less abusive and dramatic way.
Stop trying to gaslight people into thinking she is completely fine where she is and how she is treated. Like SJM did not put THAT much effort into telling Elain’s story and settling down her arc and her weaknesses and the people who are wrong about her and the one who is right for her because its so obvious it hurts😭 Like be for real, I get offended by the sheer disrespect of my intelligence

do not read this if you don't want to hear annoying incel internet drama about angela it's not worth your time to get mad about
but i'm mad about it. i am mad about the "backlash" towards the angela redesign in the silent hill 2 remake and it being attributed to "going woke" or whatever. people won't admit that they don't like it because she doesn't look a certain standard of conventional attractiveness but that's literally the whole reason.
edits of her model, including even the "better" ones that are less sexist, basically trim her face/jawline down and stereotypically feminize her - even if they do give her eyebags or bruising to show her internal pain. which i also have a gripe with, because people struggling with intense pain and trauma don't always look it. there are subtleties possible, yes, but we can have round, childlike faces - especially at only 19 and right after coming out of the traumatic event, rather than the aftermath of dealing with it.
i honestly got so excited when i saw angela in the new one because she looks like a real person. not saying nobody has ever looked like the original angela, but she looks like women i know in real life, and girls i knew at her age. she looks like people i love dearly but never get to see in media, even as secondary or side characters. and it fits her so well. i have so many friends who are women with her demeanor and looks like! women like this exist! and they are worth love and enjoying, fictional or not. she doesn't exist to be sexy. you can protest all you want and say it's not about that, but then what it is about?
i get she was intentionally made to look older in the original due to the trauma she sustained, but that's not wholly realistic. some of us have been beatened and battered in life but are babyfaced. you genuinely cannot, even in intentional character design, infer someone is traumatized just because "they look older than they should". there's a variety of genetics and circumstances at play beyond that.
and also she's literally based of of her voice actor's looks, like completely scanned-in mocap of her. everytime you insult her looks or make fun or her you're making fun of a real woman. but obviously people (men, anyway) who are willing to see it as such an appalling offense don't care if they're hurting an actual human being with what they have to say.
from a character design standpoint, the casting of angela is really good in my opinion. but beyond that subjectiveness, that is what actual people look like

"If I really was kind, I wouldn't be here. In my head, I'm saying, 'You shouldn't be here. Go home.' When you went out to get the beer, I was like, 'Now is your chance, go home.' But it's all just in my head. My body won't move. I like being with you too much. I really like you a lot, Mr. Han. To the point where I wish everyone else in the world would just disappear and only the two of us would be left."

actually the best kind of character design is when a character has traditionally masculine traits (body hair, square face, big muscles etc) or is otherwise androgynous/nonhuman but is a girl and uses she/her pronouns

Gonna be playing some Baldur's Gate 3 for a bit, then probably come back for knocking out some more replies.
Focusing on the ones that immediately strike me with a reply first, then the oldest ones, just so people are getting posts - apologies to those who've already waited a while, I have not forgotten you.
Also, I found this little scene with Hank and I must share.

sorrrryyy more game of thrones posting but one thing that has been on my mind quite a bit while thinking about the show is the question "how much of its misogynistic reputation actually is the fanbase's fault?" and I am not arguing game of thrones is some piece of flawless feminist media, god forbid, but I was genuinely surprised by the sheer amount of well written female characters and how well a lot of them actually hold up, because people in my corner of the internet have treated it like this ugly beacon of modern misogyny. (Looking back this is deeeply ironic when considering what shows a lot of the tumblr userbase was watching at the time.) However. then I watch any video related to the show and go into the comment section and am HIT with a wave of nasty evil disgusting sexism usually only found in AITA reddit comment sections. and then i get it.

I had a really really good time at the mario movie, it was a super fun watch and chris pratt's voice acting was honestly fine. like, it wasn't MARIO, but it wasn't terrible at the very least. you know what the ACTUAL problem with the mario movie was? the embarrassing girlbossification of Peach and how the film industry still cannot understand the concept of what a strong female character actually means LOL
