Day 1 of this year's Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Memorial Torch Ride had us rolling into the American Legion Post 44 in Redmond Oregon. One thing that remains the same during this year is the Hospitality of our overnight Hosts. Having a Hot Meal, Cold Drinks and a Place to lay our heads after a long emotional day on the road means everything. I would like to say a very heartfelt “Thank You” to everyone at the American Legion Post 44. You guys are Awesome! #SayTheirNames #NeverForget #NeverForgotten #flagsofhonorescorts #rollcallflag #projectrollcall #america #armedforces #fallen #fallenheroes #freedom #heroes #honor #military #merica #respect #salutethefallen #soldiers #supportourtroops #tactical #usa #usmilitary #warriors #army #usveterans #usmilitary #airforce #mission_22 #22aday #veterans Projectrollcall.org https://www.instagram.com/p/CRYARDSrvYo/?utm_medium=tumblr

Please join Project Roll Call and Flags of Honor Escorts as we escorted the Roll Call Flag and the Roll Call Flag for 22 and visited the Korean and Vietnam Memorials and the Geographic Center of the Nation Monument in Belle Fourche, SD. The center of America hasn't changed since August 21, 1959, when Hawaii became the 50th state. At some point shortly afterward, the center was marked with a metal pole stuck into a pasture, off of a gravel road behind a ditch, 22 miles north of Belle Fourche, South Dakota. It's still there, and tourists can still drive to it, but Belle Fourche thought that something as important as America's center needed a monument that was more memorable, as well as one that was more accessible. As Teresa Schanzenbach of the Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce told us, "We haven't even had a post card, because a post card of a fence post really doesn't cut it." So, on August 21, 2007, slightly in advance of the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood, Belle Fourche dedicated its elaborate "Geographic Center of the Nation" monument. It's in town, behind the Visitor Center, close to major highways, parking lots, rest rooms, and the Belle Fourche Pizza Hut. Made of granite, it's designed in the shape of a giant compass, flat on the ground, with a map of the U.S. and Belle Fourche at its center, marked with an official-looking metal disk. Visitors instinctively understand that they should stand on the disk for photos, and you-are-standing-on-the-spot reaction pioneered by the monument at Four Corners. Belle Fourche insists that it's not trying to mislead anyone with its 22-miles-off-center Center, and indeed anyone visiting it during Visitor Center hours can get directions and a map to the real center, a 35-minute drive away. "If you want to go there," said Teresa, "go for it." #RollCallFlag #RollCallFlagfor22 #RollCallGSFMMFlag #FlagsofHonorEscorts #ProjectRollCall www.Projectrollcall.org https://www.instagram.com/p/CRRuXd1rdba/?utm_medium=tumblr

Please join Project Roll Call and Flags of Honor Escorts as we escorted the Roll Call Flag and the Roll Call Flag for 22 as we visited the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument preserves the site of the June 25 and 26, 1876, Battle of the Little Bighorn, near Crow Agency, Montana, in the United States. It also serves as a memorial to those who fought in the battle: George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry and a combined Lakota-Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho force. Custer National Cemetery, on the battlefield, is part of the national monument. The site of a related military action led by Marcus Reno and Frederick Benteen is also part of the national monument, but is about 3 miles (5 km) southeast of the Little Bighorn battlefield. LT Charles F. Roe and the 2nd Cavalry built the granite memorial in July 1881 that stands today on the top of Last Stand Hill. They also reinterred soldiers' remains near the new memorial, but left stakes in the ground to mark where they had fallen. In 1890 these stakes were replaced with marble markers. The bill that changed the name of the national monument also called for an "Indian Memorial" to be built near Last Stand Hill. Markers honoring the Indians who fought at Little Big Horn, including Crazy Horse, have been added to those of the U.S. troops. On Memorial Day, 1999, the first of five red granite markers denoting where warriors fell during the battle were placed on the battlefield for Cheyenne warriors Lame White Man and Noisy Walking. The warriors' red speckled granite memorial markers dot the ravines and hillsides just as do the white marble markers representing where soldiers fell. Since then, markers have been added for the Sans Arc Lakota warrior Long Road and the Minniconjou Lakota Dog's Back Bone. On June 25, 2003, an "unknown Lakota warrior marker" was placed on Wooden Leg Hill, east of Last Stand Hill to honor a warrior who was killed during the battle, as witnessed and reported by the Northern Cheyenne warrior Wooden Leg. #RollCallFlag #RollCallFlagfor22 #RollCallGSFMMFlag #FlagsofHonorEscorts #ProjectRollCall www.Projectrollcall.org https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ_syzerTKC/?utm_medium=tumblr

Please join Project Roll Call and Flags of Honor Escorts as we escorted the Roll Call Flag and the Roll Call Flag for 22 and visited the Canby Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Located at: 1000678, Canby, OR 97013 Driving north on Highway 99E as you enter Canby, it’s very hard not to notice the Vietnam memorial citizen of the small Willamette Valley town have constructed. As you crest the hill into town, you are greeted by a Bell UH-1 helicopter – better known as a “Huey.” The small park, along Highway 99E at the south entrance of Canby, has been in place since about 2008 and is a reminder of the sacrifices and service of those who served in the military during the Vietnam era. The helicopter is a medevac which had the call sign of “dust off” in 1963. During the Vietnam War, wounded servicemen were airlifted to hospitals within an average of 35 minutes, saving thousands of lives. The memorial, which was started in 2000 took 11 years to complete, with the land, helicopter and other amenities at the park being either donated or purchased through years of fundraising. Most people who live in or around Canby during that time pitched in to make the memorial a reality, and in 2011 it was finished. It was a community effort, with local businesses, government agencies and the local newspaper being heavily involved in making it a reality. “A Hero’s Prayer” was the last piece of the memorial to be finished, and it’s a bronze statue which depicts PFC Gary W. Martini, USMC, Oregon Medal of Honor recipient who was killed in action in Vietnam, with a Vietnamese child by his side. The figure Martini is carrying is U.S. Army Spec-4 Warren E. Newton, a Canby soldier listed as missing in action in Vietnam. The statue was created by Pennsylvania sculptor Wayne Hyde. When you stand at the park, it looks like subjects in the statue are moving toward a red cross, where the helicopter will land. It’s a very powerful image if you take the time and really look at it and think about the war. May Their Service and Sacrifice Never be Forgotten! #RollCallFlag #RollCallFlagfor22 #RollCallGSFMMFlag #FlagsofHonorEscorts #ProjectRollCall www.Projectrollcall.org https://www.instagram.com/p/CQbpvFyLIql/?utm_medium=tumblr

Please join Project Roll Call and Flags of Honor Escorts as we escorted the Roll Call Flag and the Roll Call Flag for 22 on our visit to Mt Rushmore. Mount Rushmore National Memorial is centered on a colossal sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore (Lakota Tȟuŋkášila Šákpe, or Six Grandfathers) in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum created the sculpture's design and oversaw the project's execution from 1927 to 1941 with the help of his son, Lincoln Borglum. The sculpture features the 60-foot (18 m) heads of Presidents George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919) and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865), as recommended by Borglum. The four presidents were chosen to represent the nation's birth, growth, development and preservation, respectively. The memorial park covers 1,278 acres (2.00 sq mi; 5.17 km2) and the actual mountain has an elevation of 5,725 feet (1,745 m) above sea level. South Dakota historian Doane Robinson is credited with conceiving the idea of carving the likenesses of noted figures into the mountains of the Black Hills of South Dakota in order to promote tourism in the region. His initial idea was to sculpt the Needles; however, Gutzon Borglum rejected the Needles because of the poor quality of the granite and strong opposition from the Lakota (Sioux), who consider the Black Hills to be sacred ground; it was originally included in the Great Sioux Reservation. Each president was originally to be depicted from head to waist, but lack of funding forced construction to end on October 31, 1941. #RollCallFlag #RollCallFlagfor22 #FlagsofHonorEscorts #ProjectRollCall www.Projectrollcall.org https://www.instagram.com/p/CQOxsojtXb5/?utm_medium=tumblr

Please join Project Roll Call with Flags of Honor Escorts as we escort the Roll Call Flag to the Sgt Dan Brown Idaho Fallen Soldiers Memorial. Dedicated in 2017, the memorial depicts a life size bronze statue of Sgt Dan Brown reaching out to an Iraqi child and includes a 24-foot wall listing the names of Idaho soldiers killed since the attacks of 9/11. Salt Lake portrait sculptor Lena Toritch created the clay statue of Sgt. Brown. Born and trained in St. Petersburg, Russia, Toritch is a U.S. citizen who lives in Salt Lake City. She feels it is her mission to create sculptures that help people find comfort and hope while honoring the service of American soldiers. On Friday May 28th 2021 we had the Honor and Privilege of attending the dedication of the new Idaho Gold Star Family Memorial Monument in Pocatello. On our way up to the dedication, we met up with and rode in with members of the POW/MIA Riders Association. It was so cool to have had the opportunity to meet and ride in with them. We were impressed by the turn out of support as hundreds of people were in attendance for the unveiling. Many of those in attendance were members of Pocatello’s Gold Star Families. After the unveiling they were given the opportunity to lay a flower at the base of the monument. Among the dignitaries that spoke at the dedication were Brigadier General Farin Schwartz, of the Idaho National Guard, and U.S. Senator Mike Crapo spokeswoman Farhana Hibbert. The guest of honor though, was the lone surviving recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor following World War II, Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 4 Hershel “Woody” Williams. After the ceremony we got to meet with several of the Gold Star Mothers as well as some of the people that helped to get this Memorial Built. We also had the opportunity to meet with Chad L. Graham, President & CEO Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, and the man himself, Hershel “Woody” Williams, Medal of Honor Recipient Co-founder of the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation. It was incredible Honor meeting and talking with Woody. We talked with him about the Monuments and the Idaho Gold Star Families, before sharing with him our Mission with Flags of Honor Escorts and shared the history of the Flags that we were escorting that day. May we Never Forget the Service and the Sacrifice of all our Fallen and the Families that were left behind. Please join Project Roll Call with Flags of Honor Escorts as we escort the Roll Call Flag, the Never Forget Flag, and the 2020 – 2021 Flags for 22 and visit Davis–Monthan Air Force Base. Davis–Monthan Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base 5 miles south-southeast of downtown Tucson, Arizona. It was established in 1925 as Davis-Monthan Landing Field. The host unit for Davis–Monthan AFB is the 355th Wing (355 WG) assigned to Twelfth Air Force (12AF), part of Air Combat Command (ACC). The base is best known as the location of the Air Force Materiel Command's 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (309 AMARG), the aircraft boneyard for all excess military and U.S. government aircraft and aerospace vehicles. Davis–Monthan Air Force Base is a key ACC installation. The 355th Wing (355 WG) provides A-10 Thunderbolt II close air support and OA-10 forward air controllers to ground forces worldwide. The 355 FW is also the host unit, providing medical, logistical, mission and operational support to all assigned units. The 355 FW is also the sole formal training unit for the A-10 aircraft, providing initial and recurrent training to all U.S. Air Force A-10 and OA-10 pilots, to include those in the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) and the Air National Guard (ANG). The 355th is also ACC's executive agent for INF and START treaty compliance. Perhaps the most prominent tenant is the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (309 AMARG) of the Air Force Material Command (AFMC). As the main location for the 309 AMARG, Davis–Monthan AFB is the sole aircraft boneyard for excess military and U.S. government aircraft and other aerospace vehicles such as ballistic missiles. Tucson's dry climate and alkali soil make it an ideal location to store and preserve aircraft; more than 4,000 military aircraft are parked on the base. Kliener Memorial Park in Meridian, ID. The Rock of Honor is the brainchild of Meridian VFW Commander and WWII Navy Veteran John H. Burns, who, upon moving here six years ago, found no memorials for fallen veterans in Meridian. He wrote an article in his column “One Vet’s View,” for our local newspaper, The Valley Times. He collaborated with the American Legion and formed a joint committee. The article was noticed by Mayor Tammy de Weerd who helped coordinate a site at the newest, largest park in Meridian, Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park, besides having a Senior Center, the Trustees of the park saw fit to donate land and other resources to see this memorial come to fruition. Founded: 28th of September 2010 The "Rock of Honor" is the name of the project to erect the first veteran's memorial in Meridian Idaho. It is located in the new Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park. This Memorial is a joint venture of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the City of Meridian. The Rock of Honor will Honor our Fallen Veterans of Meridian that were killed or died from wounds suffered in battle, sense state hood. Please join Project Roll Call with Flags of Honor Escorts and the Roll Call Flag as we visit The Veterans Stone Memorial Monument in Napa, CA. On Saturday September 30, 2012 the Veteran Stone Memorial Monument was dedicated to service members from Napa County killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is located at the Veterans Memorial Park in Napa California. The monument, named “Fallen But Not Forgotten,” was unveiled Saturday at the corner of Third and Main streets, thanks to the efforts of Alyssa DeBenedetti, a 2012 Napa High School graduate who proposed the monument and spearheaded the project. For months, DeBenedetti contacted veterans’ organizations, city officials and others and raised about $13,000 to make the 4-foot-tall bronze sculpture a reality. It features boots and a rifle with a bayonet topped by a helmet, symbolizing a dead soldier. At its base are six plaques with the names of the fallen service members. At the dedication, DeBenedetti, and a Napa Valley College student, thanked the various groups who supported her efforts, including relatives of the fallen service members and her own family. “It was truly a community effort,” she said. “Meeting with the families opened my eyes to the great sense of loss that they are still experiencing,” DeBenedetti added. “I’d like to thank the families for opening their lives and sharing memories and stories and pictures with me. These are some wonderful families, and I’m truly honored that I got the chance to meet them and build a friendship.” May Their Service and Sacrifice Never be Forgotten! #america #armedforces #fallen #fallenheroes #honor #military #merica #usa #usveterans #usmilitary #veterans #SayTheirNames #NeverForget #NeverForgotten #thebartfoundation #captainjosephhousefoundation #fallenheroesproject #fightthewarwithin #FlagsofHonorEscorts #Healing4Heroes #HonorandRemember #LoveOurVets #Mission22 #NavajoHopiHonorRiders #onemoredayveteran #REBOOTRecovery #RideFor22 #StopSoldierSuicides #tapsorg #VeteranTrashTalk www.Projectrollcall.org https://www.instagram.com/p/CNsjoouLlz_/?utm_medium=tumblr

Today we are Honored to welcome our newest Partner Organization: Operation Transition Outside the Wire. Operation Transition Outside the Wire's mission is to systematically and purposefully transition service men and women from their active duty "inside the wire" mindset to civilian life. We help them overcome challenges acclimating to day-to-day life in a proactive manner. We receive Veterans on our working ranch (and their spouse and children if desired) just as they return from combat and instantly start working on their service connects. From day one and throughout their 6-month stay on the ranch, they are provided housing, employment, transitional support services, food, transportation, community, etc. to set them up for success with their civilian life. By partnering with corporations, private donors and other non-profits who believe in and support our mission, we strive to prevent as many of the 22 veteran suicides that occur every day as we can. We hope you'll join us as we safely and proactively transition our service men and women back into civilian life where they'll never have to come home to a feeling of "nowhere to turn." By having combat Vets working with combat Vets on our ranch, Veterans can transition in a safe, comfortable and structured environment. https://operationtotw.org/ Together we can all do more! If you are an Organization that would like to be listed on one of the Project Roll Call Resources Pages or get involved in with our Mission to Honor and Support.
