On Friday May 28th 2021 we had the Honor and Privilege of attending the dedication of the new Idaho Gold Star Family Memorial Monument in Pocatello. On our way up to the dedication, we met up with and rode in with members of the POW/MIA Riders Association. It was so cool to have had the opportunity to meet and ride in with them. We were impressed by the turn out of support as hundreds of people were in attendance for the unveiling. Many of those in attendance were members of Pocatello’s Gold Star Families. After the unveiling they were given the opportunity to lay a flower at the base of the monument. Among the dignitaries that spoke at the dedication were Brigadier General Farin Schwartz, of the Idaho National Guard, and U.S. Senator Mike Crapo spokeswoman Farhana Hibbert. The guest of honor though, was the lone surviving recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor following World War II, Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 4 Hershel “Woody” Williams. After the ceremony we got to meet with several of the Gold Star Mothers as well as some of the people that helped to get this Memorial Built. We also had the opportunity to meet with Chad L. Graham, President & CEO Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, and the man himself, Hershel “Woody” Williams, Medal of Honor Recipient Co-founder of the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation. It was incredible Honor meeting and talking with Woody. We talked with him about the Monuments and the Idaho Gold Star Families, before sharing with him our Mission with Flags of Honor Escorts and shared the history of the Flags that we were escorting that day.
