i saw a funny tweet about the new myth cards and how raf's whole body would be scales if he's aroused enough but i'd like to imagine that his scales are kinda sorta like dormant glands like with enough coaxing they'll shimmer beneath his skin and if you kiss or rub them he's done for... he MIGHT get a little light headed and ask you to bite them and mark him but shhhh don't let his siren's call convince you to mate him... :3c

🗡 D. Marcus Elieser Bloch's, ausübenden Arztes zu Berlin ... Oeconomische Naturgeschichte der Fische Deutschlands .... Berlin: Auf Kosten des Verfassers und in Commission bei dem Buchhändler Hr. Hesse, 1782-1795.. Original source Image description: Illustration of a swordfish labeled "Esox Brasiliensis" featuring a slender, elongated body with greenish scales and several dark vertical bands. The fish has large, round eyes and a distinctive long, narrow, pointed snout resembling a sword. Fins are detailed with fine lines, including a forked tail and pectoral fins. The illustration includes a small circular sketch near the tail. The image is framed with text in the upper right corner, providing the species name in Latin, German, French, and English ("The Under-Sword-Fish"). The style is a precise, colored engraving on a plain background, typical of 18th-century natural history illustrations.

The Batman & Scooby-Doo! Mysteries #8 by Sholly Fisch
Tumblr media
4.5/5
This post is for fan entertainment, I am not being paid.
Hi everyone,
Ok issue 8, already I saw a difference in art style, this art style reminds me of Batman Brave and the Bold cartoon.
This comic takes place in a museum of really big things. A tour group is going through the museum looking at the large-scale items and the tour guide is explaining each of the items. But the building gets attacked by a giant.
Re-reading this comic, this actually reads like a Scooby-Doo episode, I love the other comics in the series but this one I do like because it seems that this one kind of breaks the mold of the pervious issues.
Back to the story, when Mystery Inc. and Batman and Robin get to the scene of the crime, and they go through all the items. One that they focused on is a really big cash register and one thing that was missing from the museum was a big lamp.
After a while and some sleuthing the group meets up with a burglar trying to steal the whole cash register.
I had to reread the comic in order to appreciate the comic, I like this one but call me a little biased, but I do like the comic with the Batman villain. But breaking the mold of having Gotham infamous criminals in every issue and having either a lesser know villain is a nice break.

mermaid au headcanons
Not to become a writer blog but I would like to share some of my hcs (headcanons) of mer!mark and mer!ethan | gifs are mine
mer!ethan
Tumblr media
- boy loves to swim around kelp forests (kelp gets on his tail tho and it’s kind of a pain to get them off his scales)
- he will sometimes swim out and look at boats (though he doesn’t like it when he’s out very far because of sharks)
- FISH FRIENDS
- he likes little trinkets and little treasures and collects them
- found an ukulele and likes playing and singing on a rock near the shore
- he likes to watch people on the shore but won’t dare go near them
- he got near a dog and unfortunately the dog was called back by it’s owner and he just wants to pet a dog honestly
- sees other mermaids and mermen and sirens pulling people into the waters deeper and scaring them and he doesn’t like it
- he finds humans weird because of their lack of care for the ocean
- doesn’t like that humans scared of the h2o
- he just doesn’t really like humans all that much, he prefers hanging with other people of his kind
- him and mark are friends yet polar opposites but still same interests
- he doesn’t like the fact that mark wants to meet with humans and see whats on the other side
- “Mark! We’re not supposed to go on land! I heard we get dried up very quickly!!”, “Oh you big baby, it can’t be that bad.”
- despite mark’s chaotic self, he still likes being friends with him and likes hanging out with him
- he found these underwater glasses (goggles) that were just chilling in the sand and he wears them as fashion sometimes and think’s they’re cool
mer!mark
Tumblr media
- hates the ocean
- right off the bat
- will prefer to hang around the shore (the sand makes his tail itchy and it’s not good) or underwater caves that are nearby, fuck going out deeper in the waters, that’s not happening
- wants to go even further beyond and go on land
- he likes change so this doesn’t really bother him, nor does getting caught
- he likes singing on rocks but gets freaked out when people try to say hi to him
- don’t freak the fisch boy out
- if you freak him out he will splash everywhere and try and get away (it’s not stealthy)
- he doesn’t really collect things cause there’s stuff to explore on LAND with HUMANS and seeing them WALK and RUN and pet DOGS
- he finds these mechanic wrist bracelets cool but they don’t work when he wears them for some reason (probably ‘cause watches don’t work underwater but don’t tell him that)
- mark finds ethan’s reasoning's of humans kinda dumb because he finds humans cool
- he makes fun of ethan’s rightful fear of land and humans but if ethan is actually freaking out mark will help and comfort him
- though he doesn’t like it when humans destroy the waters with leaving plastic and stuff
- when his hair gets long and gets in his face he’ll tie a piece of kelp around his head like a headband (thinks he cool when he wears it)

Multilingual Vocab Practice
Pets
Tumblr media
(Here’s a vocab list to help you talk about your furry/scaly/feathered friends. This was my favorite list to make so far!
Note: For the most part, I have given the masculine version of each animal. In general, feminization of each animal in Spanish and French is pretty simple (see the end of the post for further explanation). However, some animals have unique words for each gender (like “cow” and “bull”). In those cases, I have listed the alternative names underneath the more commonly used word.
I also have the baby version of different animals listed directly underneath the adult version in some cases.
As usual, most adjectives are given in the masculine singular form.)

Notes:
*Note that “good boy/girl!” is not really used in Spanish and French to address dogs the way it is in English. They usually just say “good dog”.
**In Spanish, most animals can be feminized by replacing “el” with “la” (or “un” with “una”) and adding an “-a” at the end of the word, or by replacing the last vowel with “-a”. So, if you have a female cat, you can call her “una gata” instead of “un gato”. A female dog would be “una perra”.
**In French, most animals can be feminized by replacing “le” with “la” (or “un” with “une”) and adding an “-e” at the end of the word. Usually, the last consonant will have to be doubled as well. So, if you have a female cat, you can call her “une chatte” instead of “un chat”. A female dog would be “une chienne”.
**In German, most people use the feminine version of cat, “die Katze”, to refer to cats in general. To talk about a male cat (usually a tomcat) specifically, you can say “der Kater”.
***Don’t refer to someone’s pet fish as “el pescado”. That’s the word for fish that you eat. It would be like calling someone’s pet pig “pork” or someone’s pet cow “beef”.
****Like “el agua”, “el ala” is actually a feminine word that uses the article “el” simply because it sounds better. For example, if you wanted to talk about a bird’s red wing, you would refer to it as “el ala roja”.

Stanford Cryptography Researchers Are Building Espresso, a Privacy-focused Blockchain
An anonymous reader shares a report: If blockchain technology is to reach true mass adoption, it will have to become cheaper and more efficient. Low transaction throughput on some of the most popular blockchains, most notably Ethereum, has kept gas fees high and hindered scalability. A host of new projects has cropped up to improve efficiency in the blockchain space, each with its own set of tradeoffs, including proof-of-capacity blockchain Subspace, which announced its $32.9 million Series A last week. Now, a team of researchers from Stanford University's applied cryptography research group has entered the fray. The team is coming out of stealth mode with Espresso, a new layer one blockchain they are building to allow for higher throughput and lower gas fees while prioritizing user privacy and decentralization. Espresso aims to optimize for both privacy and scalability by leveraging zero-knowledge proofs, a cryptographic tool that allows a party to prove a statement is true without revealing the evidence behind that statement, CEO Ben Fisch told TechCrunch in an interview. Espresso Systems, the company behind the blockchain project, is led by Fisch, chief operating officer Charles Lu, and chief scientist Benedikt Bünz, collaborators at Stanford who have each worked on other high-profile web3 projects, including the anonymity-focused Monero blockchain and BitTorrent co-founder Bram Cohen's Chia. They've teamed up with chief strategy officer Jill Gunter, a former crypto investor at Slow Ventures who is the fourth Espresso Systems co-founder, to take their blockchain and associated products to market. To achieve greater throughput, Espresso uses ZK-Rollups, a solution based on zero-knowledge proofs that allow transactions to be processed off-chain. ZK-Rollups consolidate multiple transactions into a single, easily-verifiable proof, thus reducing the bandwidth and computational load on the consensus protocol. The method has already gained popularity on the Ethereum blockchain through scaling solution providers like StarkWare and zkSync, according to Fisch.

This is a good one. Very nice.
I'd always assumed the The Rainbow Fish was an explanation for why fish are iridescent. Like... He made all the other fish shiny. And that has even made it into my DnD campaigns (Rainbow Fish she'd their scales naturally, and sea people's collect them to make clothes. Kinda like the sheep of the sea).
But if you take the story more literally it can be quite concerning. I'll always have a place in my heart for Der Riegenbogen Fische, and a version where everyone is unique instead of becoming more similar is wonderful!

When we posted the alternate ending for The Giving Tree a couple of weeks ago, it roused a lot of strong opinions for or against the rewrite. People either LOVED it or HATED it.
So… here’s another alternate ending (also by Topher Payne) to a much-debated children’s book, The Rainbow Fish.
What do we think of this one?
Just read The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister as usual, right up to the visit to the octopus. Then, make the switch and read this as an alternative to everything that follows.
